Inspired by Mai Magi (is she no longer on tumblr? couldn't find her) and my friend from insta (mosscoveredtroll) I made my own braided belt reccently! I started simple by doing a standard braid with 3 main strands (4 strands per "strand" though) and used this pretty bronze gold belt buckle I've got from a bargain bin ages ago. Finally it's time to shine has come!!
Making the belt was so much fun, I immediately made another one for my dear friend Meg's birthday present and already plan already on making another one for a craft swap with my dear friend @wuselwesen.
[id]Pic 1 & 8 are full body shots which incoorperate the finished braided black belt into an outfit. A fat, white, young seeming woman with long brown hair worn over one shoulder and glasses is wearing a berry-coloured dress. The dress is loose-fitting, and as such nicely accentuated with the braided black belt. She's wearing a berry-coloured bandana in her hair, with white lace edging. A black scarf, black leggins and black shoes tie in the black belt. A berry and orange patterned kimono-inspired jacket finishes the whole look!
Pic 2-7 show progress pictures of how the braided belt was made.
Pic 2: show the single strands of the belt being prepared and hung over a chair in the meantime
Pic 3: The beginning of the braids: the strands of shirt-yarn are being knotted to a bronze-coloured key (wait? a key?)
Pic 4: We see a finished black belt with a key buckle, which you use to tie the belt up.
Pic 5: But what's that?? More belt buckles?? (including the one seen in the full body shots.) Wait a moment... might these pictures reveal something?
Pic 6: Alas, the first belt turned out too small and the belt being worn in the outfit is actually the second belt! Surprise! They are very similar, one belt just has a key belt buckle and the other a D-shaped belt buckle. And of course the second one is longer (though you can't really tell, as it's wrapped around a bottle in the picture)
Pic 7: Apparently a braided bracelet has been made from scrap material! Also conveniently modeled on a water bottle.

GUIDE TO MORI KEI!! 森系
mori kei is one of the many early 2000s subcultures that originated from the harajuku district inspired by living in the woods.
wearers of this type of clothing are usually referred to as mori girl (森ガール) or mori boy (森ボーイ). basically, forest girl/boy.
this subculture is based on nature and gives off a more elven/fae feel, its main color pallet consisting of earth tones, greens, whites, and other soft colors. plaid is a pattern that occasionally appears in mori kei fits, and sometimes baby blues and pinks will appear for a contrast to an outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you want to look for some clothing that would fit with this aesthetic, look for something loose and natural, and pieces that layer well together. such as a large cardigan/sweater vest that goes well with a frilly dress/skirt and leg warmers and tights. pants may also be used for a more masculine look.
"ゆるふわ" is what the loose layers achieve, hiding the curves of the body and therefore the wearer has a "fluffy" appearance. when layering, make sure to begin with the lightest/thinest layer first, and then move on to heavier materials.
lace, light materials, and embroidered clothes are musts, while accessories such as shawls, tights, and scarfs add to the layered effect.
linen, wool, and cotton are fabrics that are often used. fabrics that drape nicely will be your bff when creating a mori kei outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mori kei is actually quite similar to cottagecore, but while cottagecore is focused on a rural life, mori kei is more based on forests and nature itself.
It also expresses a love of the forest, quiet hobbies, reading, drinking tea, herbalism, and a natural lifestyle.
hair and makeup often match with the almost whimsical and natural look of the outfits. makeup is kept relatively basic, with use of colors such as beige, pinks, and golds. minimalistic igari makeup is a nice example.

DARK MORI KEI/MORI GOTH
a subcategory of mori kei is mori goth, which uses darker, less saturated colors of the usually light color scheme of mori kei. it still follows the same layering scheme and relaxed silhouette, but as of now it has separated into strega, another subculture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YAMA KEI
a more practical subcategory, usually for fans of the outdoors who love hiking/camping. this includes brighter and more vivid colors while also reverting to more practical clothes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAMA KEI
hama kei is a beach-based section, with uses of lighter clothing and less layers, as well as blues and yellows. you'd also see things such as stripes, anchors, and denim to add to the sailor-like outfits

I went thrifting in October with a friend who was new to thrifting and it was so fun to introduce her to it!! We went to a new location of the chains of thrift stores I'm used to (some day I will visit ALL of them located in my big city! Gonna thrift them all!)
My plan was to show my friend around, but of course while I was there I also had a look around. And guess what I found!! The little sister bag to the artsy vibes shoulder bag I've already found earlier in the summer! I screamed (not very loud though, haha, but I was super excited!) when I saw it.
The bags both have the same rounded shape and the round bottom, as well as the long leather shoulder strap. Their leather closure flaps are different but similar enough. They have obvious resemblances!
The little one with it's brown and tan-cream stripes even gives definite mori kei vibes. I'll wear it for my mori outfits for sure! Speaking of mori kei - in picture 1 I've stuffed the newly thrifted little bag with a big black crocheted shawl I've found at that thrift store too (I stuffed it to better show it's shape - you can see in picture 2 how it lays flat). As the shawl was already involved and gorgeous I had to show that one as well. It was a definitive "already has my name on it" buy! SO beautiful. I love using shawls for my mori looks, but I also incorporate them into other outfits. They are just so pretty and versatile, in my opinion. I didn't have a black one so far, so this one had to come home with me!
[image description] Picture 1: The newly thrifted little brown and tan-cream striped bag next to the big red and turquoise striped bag. Their resemblance is very obvious! A red panda plush and a blue snake plush have come to check out the pretty bag family as well! (Or that's what it seems like).
Picture 2: A bit of a close-up of the two bags, with the smaller brown and tan-cream one now laying on top and in front of the other red-and-turquoise bag to show their size difference but otherwise similarity in another way. A black shawl is laying next to the bags, which has been previously used to stuff the little back to give it some body.
Picture 3: A close-up picture of the thrifted black crocheted shawl. The pattern is made up out of crocheted flowers or maybe stars?
Picture 4: A close-up of the thrifted brown and tan-cream bag. It shows up how the leather straps are connected to the side and also the front closure flap.
Picture 5: A big black crocheted shawl, which has been draped over the red back of a couch. The body of the shawl consists of crocheted flowers and it's finished of with long black fringe-y tassles! A red panda plush and a blue snake plush seem to have come investigate the black beauty. [/image description]

🍂🍇hello friends 🍇🍂
An autumnal ootd with this nice linen dress - I altered the neckline to suit me better and added a cute velvet ribbon tie!
Everything but the flowers are thrifted - the dress is pre owned from ebay, the shoes, bag, chain, pendant and tiny gold bracelet are all from local charity shops.
I'm especially pleased with my chain and phaistos disc pendant- found in different places at different times, but both have real gold! Should I do a post of my thrifted jewellery treasures?
