Have I decided to manufacture beef between Jack and Sarah?
Yep... see at first they wouldn't get along because Jack thinks he's got to protect Davey and Sarah's just super confused. They sort that who debacle out but then begin to furiously compete for Katherine's attention.
They are locked in a heated battle on who can "win" Kathrine, they also know she would absolutely smack them in the heads for thinking she can be won. But they like give each other death stares across the room whenever they meet... Davey finds it way too funny to stop and let's Kathrine know about it. At first she's upset with them but ends up turning the competition into a betting war on how she thinks Sarah or Jack will try to woo her.
It lasts a few good months until Jack starts realizing he's trying to impress the wrong person and concedes victory to Sarah which doesn't feel much like one when she turns around and he's kissing her brother.
And then that starts a whole new beef between them.

you guys need to know that in the pokemon x newsies AU, Jack has an umbreon named Santa and a houndoom named Fe.
I think planing stuff out at 12 AM is (sometimes) a bad idea but it makes so so much funny things
also I've figured out Sparrow, Race, Jack, Crutchie, Spot, Kathrine, Sarah, Albert, and Davey! all that's left is mostly background characters. Les is for a different time bc he's younger and wouldn't interact with the others currently - Voidling Anon

I Never Planned On You Chapter 15: Once And For All- Davey Jacobs x Poppy
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.7k
Tumblr media
Poppy laid asleep peacefully in her bed. Any worry that had plagued her expression the previous night had faded away as she slept. Her arm laid under her head, supporting it as she laid on her side while free hand laid beside her palm down. She truly looked at peace in this state. Davey was sitting up beside her, running his hands through her hair silently. He had been worried about her all night, even though he knew things had gotten better for her, he couldn’t help but worry after the nervousness she had been displaying just a few hours earlier.
A sigh of content left his lips as he admired the girl. He could look at her all day and all night if he had the chance. He thought she looked so peaceful and beautiful in her sleep, like a finely sculpted statue made of the finest marble. His fingernails lightly ran over her scalp quietly, he was happy that she was catching up on her sleep debt.
A small hum left the girl’s lips after a short while as she began to wake up. She inhaled softly as her eyes slowly fluttered open, and a sleepy smile appeared on her face when her eyes landed on Davey.
“Good morning,” she whispered, earning a smile from the boy.
“Goodmorning, sunshine,” he whispered back.
“Have you been awake for long?” She asked softly, rubbing her eyes to further wake herself up.
“No,” he lied, shaking his head as he continued to run his fingers through her hair. “Not too long.” Poppy stared up at him with a look of adoration.
“Liar,” she muttered lovingly. The boy laughed softly.
“Maybe- but I was worried about you.”
“Davey, I’m fine,” she giggled. “I would’ve woken you up if something was wrong.”
“No you wouldn’t!” He teased, poking her side.
“I may have,” she laughed out, flinching back from the poke. “You don’t know!”
“I do know! You wouldn’t ever try to bother me,” he insisted.
“So you’re saying it would bother you if I woke you up,” she pointed out, raising an eyebrow at him. She was just messing with him at this point. Davey rolled his eyes.
“I give up,” he joked. “It’s a lost cause.”
“Glad to see you’ve finally come to your senses about me,” she joked back.
“It took me too long, how didn’t I see this before?” He played along in a hopeless tone.
“Because I’m a witch that’s charmed you with my incredible beauty and fantastic charm,” she giggled as if it were obvious.
“That you have,” he agreed, leaning down to press a kiss on her forehead. Poppy laughed softly as she sat up.
“You’re sweet.”
“I try my best.” The girl leaned her head on his shoulder.
“Did you get any sleep last night?” She asked.
“An hour or two. I’ve been…” he trailed off. “Jack- everything with that- it’s been on my mind.” That made the girl smile sympathetically.
“How are you feeling after all that?” She asked softly.
“A little hurt,” he admitted with a shrug. “It’ll be okay.” Poppy nodded and gently grabbed his hand.
“It’ll be okay,” she repeated gently, lifting his hand to press a kiss to his knuckles. Davey nodded as he stood.
“There’s so much to do.”
“What can I do to help?” The girl asked as she stood too, beginning to braid her hair
“Not much, I just need to review a paper Kathrine wrote. We’re printing and distributing them tonight,” he explained. Poppy nodded and smiled somewhat excitedly at the mention of the article Katherine had written.
“I’m just hoping that Jack is back in the game,” the boy added with a sigh.
“If he isn’t, then at least we still are,” she offered optimistically. “We’re gonna see this strike through. Right?”
He nods with a soft smile “right.” He responded with a nod and soft smile. The girl grabbed his hand and squeezed it gently, and Davey lifted her hand to his lips, kissing it lightly in response. She smiled up at him with stars in her eyes.
“I love you,” she whispered as if it were their little secret.
“I love you too,” he whispered back.
“Well thank god or else last night would’ve been real awkward today,” she joked, but it was the truth. She’d never let anyone see that side of her. Davey rolled his eyes playfully.
“It’s not embarrassing to have feelings, it’s embarrassing to hide feelings,” he pointed out.
“Ah, I didn’t realize my boyfriend was a therapist,” she teased.
“Sure I am, I wouldn’t have to be if you just talked out what you were feeling.”
“Or, consider this: I keep it all in until I can’t anymore then break down when I’m alone so I’m not a burden,” she suggested with jazz hands and a cheesy grin. Davey didn’t answer, but instead shot her an incredulous and slightly concerned look.
“Oh come on, it worked well until last night but I hadn’t planned on last night,” she defended. The boy continued to stare at her for a few more seconds.
“Right…” he trailed off. “Very healthy.”
“I didn’t say it was healthy, I just said it worked,” she shrugged before laughing.
“You make my poor heart weak, I hope you’re proud of yourself,” he said, poking her in the side.
“Awww, don’t I make your head spin too?” She pouted jokingly.
“That’s Jack’s job,” he retorted as he pulled his suspenders over his shoulder.
“He seems to be doing a pretty good job at it,” she joked as she got ready for the day, making the boy laugh.
“He sure is, I’ve been abandoned by him like four times,” he pointed out.
“Sounds kinda toxic,” she giggled.
“Yeah, yeah,” he laughed softly. “C’mon, we’ve got work to do.” Poppy nodded and quickly followed him out of the lodging home, both of them eager to finally make the changes they wanted to see. Things were finally gonna change once and for all.
Tumblr media
Davey was crouched in front of Les by the punch table in the theater, distractedly fixing the boy's shirt, which had been buttoned wrong. Poppy walked inside, barely having to look around before she spotted the two boys. A smile quickly formed on her face as she walked over to them.
“Well, don’t you two look dapper,” she greeted. Davey hummed as he finished up with Les’ shirt, his gaze distracted as he spoke.
“Someone is learning how to button shirts,” he joked before turning to her, instantly going quiet and turning red. A smile broke over his face, his eyes getting a little squinty as he smiled.
“Well look at you,” he said breathlessly. Poppy giggled softly and flattened out the skirt of her dress.
“Me? You look amazing,” she responded, looking him up and down with a big smile. The boy grinned, completely entranced by her beauty. He slowly reached out for her hand and took it, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles lovingly as Les walked away silently, likely to go find his date.
“I’ve never-” he paused, sighing in disbelief at how gorgeous she was, before laughing softly. “You took my breath away.” Poppy blushed deeply and shook her head with a small laugh.
“You’re too sweet to me, Dave.” He scrunched up his slightly freckled nose in admiration for her, smiling brightly.
“No, I mean it, you’re stunning.”
“Oh hush you,” she laughs softly. The boy laughed as well and sighed in relief.
“I’m so glad this is all over,” he muttered.
“Me too,” she nodded and cupped his cheek with her free hand. “You were amazing out there, Davey. We’re lucky we had you as a leader.”
“I’m never doing this again, that’s all you’re getting from me,” he joked
“Damn, I was thinking about trying again next week,” she joked back in a voice of feigned disappointment, which made Davey laugh.
“Let’s dance,” he said, pulling at her arm encouragingly.
“Alright alright,” she laughed and pulled him to where the others were dancing. Davey followed with a chuckle. He had never been too great at dancing due to his height, but he was here for a good time. An upbeat song began to play so Poppy wrapped her arms around his neck and began dancing to the beat. He followed along as best as he could, unable to wipe the smile off his face.
“I don’t do this often,” he admitted.
“None of us do,” she responded simply, a wild and delighted smile on her face. “That’s what makes it so fun.” Davey grinned down at her, spinning her quickly.
“I see, I didn’t gather that I was supposed to be having fun,” he joked.
“That’s why I’m here to help you,” she joked back. “You’d be lost without me.” Davey laughed and picked her up to spin her before setting her back down.
“We have a symbiotic relationship,” he teased.
“I don’t know what that means but thank you- I think,” she giggled.
“It means we’re good together,” he clarified with a grin.
“Oh- why didn’t you just say that?” She giggled. “I don’t have all the fancy school knowledge that you do.” That made the boy laugh again.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” The girl nodded approvingly before doing a little twirl shortly before Davey set his hands on her waist.
“You’ve got such a beautiful spirit,” he said over the music. The girl blushed at that, then leaned up to peck his lips.
“You’re too nice to me sometimes,” she muttered, but the boy just shook his head.
“You deserve every ounce of love that you get.”
“Sometimes,” she shrugged.
“All the time,” he muttered, pressing a kiss to her forehead, making her roll her eyes playfully.
“I don’t know, I can be a real bitch sometimes,” she half joked.
“I like it,” he teased in response.
“Believe me, I know,” she teased right back, pulling herself closer to him. Davey grinned and, rather than respond, leaned down and pressed a sweet kiss to her lips that left her breathless.
They spent the rest of the evening in each other’s arms, where they belonged. They couldn’t have been more happy with each other, and they thanked whatever higher power there was that they’d met that fateful day at the distribution center.

Am I Gay?
Jack always felt a little different, even though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. After Jack met Davey though, his whole world changed. Something just clicked.
“This is my brother Davey” Les introduced his older brother.
Jack stared at the taller boy, with kind, brown eyes who was dressed impeccably. There was something about the pressed shirt, clean shoes and tie tucked into the boy’s vest.
“Nice to meet you Davey” Jack greeted him with his usual careless bravado, trying not to let the butterflies in his stomach take over. No one had ever made him feel this way. Not even Kathrine. Jack was both afraid and excited about this new feeling. The best way he would describe it was like seeing snow on Christmas Eve. After selling papers with Davey and Les, Jack was even more certain about his emotions towards Davey.
After getting back to the newsie’s group house, Jack logged onto the internet to try and find out what was going on with him. He always had assumed he was straight but Davey was making him question everything. This was the first time he had ever considered another boy cute. This was the first time another person had thrown him off his usual confidence The very first thing Jack searched for was “am I gay quiz?” He took the quiz, unsure what the outcome would be. The quiz said he was more likely gay than straight. The next quiz Jack took was “Am I bisexual?” The answer was most definitely yes to this one. After the two quizzes, Jack read some articles about queer identity. If he was gay or bi he thought he should know more about those identities. As Jack was closing the tabs on the laptop, Race suddenly came bursting into the room. Before Jack could slam the computer shut, Race caught a glimpse of what Jack had been looking at. Jack was flustered but tried to remain composed.
“Is there something you need Race?”
Race just stood there, not knowing what to say.
“Umm, well I did. But now I forget. Why were you looking at that stuff?” Race asked with an inquisitive face.
“No reason. Just bored is all. Anyways I should head to bed. Early morning. Papes won’t sell themselves.”
“Yea I’m sure the papes need all the help they can get. Especially from Davey.”
Jack almost dropped his computer that he was putting away.
Race smirked.
“I don’t know what you mean,” Jack said, trying to hide his blushing.
“Yeah, you do. I mean you were making total heart eyes at Davey today. You could barely muster anything to say to him.”
Jack looked up at Race.
“Was it really that obvious?” He asked, concerned.
“Well, I noticed. And some of the other’s probably. And maybe Davey. But it is good that you are trying to find out your identity.”
Jack nodded
“Just don’t say anything to the others or Davey?”
“Of course not Jack! If you need to talk about anything I am here. Oh and what I was going to tell you was that Spot has been catfishing the Delancy brothers.”
Jack laughed at this.
The next day, the headline was once again about the writers and actors strike. It seemed like it had been going on for far too long. There seemed to be no end in sight. The producers and studio exec seemed happy to just wait out their workers. Which was something not even a certain demon would think of or approve of.
As everyone was pairing up, Race casually told Les that he could tag along with him and Spot. Les was excited about this opportunity.
Race winked at Jack, causing Jack to blush.
“Ok, well it looks like Davey and Jack have to team up then. Don’t worry us and Les won’t get into too much trouble.” Race said, smiling at Davey.
Davey seemed alright with this and he and Jack went off to sell some papes. Jack was quiet which was very strange for him. Somehow just being in Davey’s presence was enough to cause him to go completely silent. Davey, who was himself pretty introverted, didn't start any conversation. It was nice just sharing a peaceful walk. Upon reaching their corner, Jack began talking to the strangers on the street, hustling them. Davey watched him work, taking mental notes on how Jack approached everyone differently. Jack was flirting with an older woman, attempting to get her to purchase a pape. Davey felt a little bit of jealousy rise in him. He quickly shook it off. Telling himself that Jack was not interested in men. The other boys had made it pretty clear that Jack was very much a ladies man. The woman bought the newspaper and walked away grinning. After about half an hour, Jack and Davey headed back to meet up with the others. Everyone went out for dinner to Jacobi’s deli. Race made sure Davey and Jack sat across from each other. Jack was feeling worn out. Trying to keep his composure around Davey was exhausting. He hungrily dug into his sandwich and chips. Trying not to make eye contact with Davey. Les and Davey started to head back home to see their folks. Before they could make it too far Race said out loud to Jack
“So how was selling papes with him? It was better than those stupid quizzes, right?”
“What quizzes?” Davey asked.
Race started stumbling on his words. He said something to the effect “spot needs me” and ran off leaving Jack completely humiliated.
Jack could either lie to Davey or come clean. He decided to do the second, knowing that it was a matter of time before the others would hear of his crush on Davey and he didn’t want Davey to hear it from anyone but himself.
“I have been feeling kinda off my game. I just took some quizzes last night and Race kinda walked in on me.” Jack said, looking at the ground.
Davey raised his eyebrows.
“Nothing super weird or anything” Jack added hurriedly.
“I just ummm. Here is the thing Davey. I thought I was straight but after meeting you yesterday. I know we have only known each other for two days and it seems strange that after just meeting someone you question your whole identity, but that is what you made me do. Fact is, no girl has made me feel the way you do. I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s like this warm strange feeling. Like when I am around you, everything is going to be ok. I don’t know if you feel the same way or nothing…” Jack said trailing off, wishing he could just disappear into the setting sun.
Davey walked closer to Jack.
“Of course I feel the same way. I was really worried that you might not like me. I felt some immediate pull towards you. I can’t quite put my fingers on it, but there is something about you Jack Kelly that I loved the moment I met you” Davey replied.
There was a mutual sigh between them. Both felt immense relief.
Davey gently took Jack’s hands.
“How about we go on a proper date tomorrow? After selling papes? There is a nice deli near my house we can go. Maybe go have a picnic in the park?”
“That sounds great Davey” Jack said grinning.
They parted ways, happy to know that they had found the one person who truly made everything alright.

I'm so tempted to write something about Sarah and Davey about the different things that happen btw me and my twin.
Like when I'm (unfairly?) kicked outta the apartment so when she has someone over. Maybe Davey's kicked out when Sarah invites Kathrine over or something and ends up meeting Jack (which sadly never happens to me)
Or that one time I had to ignore my sister making out with some guy to finish a homework assignment, yikes.... I gonna make Sarah suffer through that with Davey and Jack being insufferable 😆
Idk I just have a few stories I think would be funny to write about them

I Never Planned On You Chapter 1: Printing Press- Darcy Reid x Ava Fig
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.9k
Tumblr media
The Manhattan lodging home began to come alive as morning began to dawn on the streets. Lines for the bathrooms began to grow and chatter emanated from the building. The other day an employee of The Tribune had come up to Tinker and asked for her help finding out what the problem was with one of their printing presses. Now that she had some free time after being scheduled the last few days she was finally making the trip up there. Ava had been finishing up getting dressed and making sure she had everything when her friend Casey walked over to her and Poppy’s bunks.
“Good morning” she greeted her best friends somewhat distractedly as she braided her hair, the way she did every morning.
“Good morning,” Tinker responded with a smile.
“Is it a good morning?” Poppy grumbled from where she was still laying in bed, not wanting to get up.
“A very good morning,” Casey concluded as she gently shook the girl. “C’mon, we gotta get to the distribution center before everyone else.”
“Why?” The redhead grumbled, as if they didn’t have the same conversation every morning, as she begrudgingly sat up. Casey leaned against the bunk with a roll of her eyes.
“I’m not having this conversation again. Tink can talk to you.”
“No she can’t,” Tinker retorted, grabbing some clothes and setting them down for her friend. “Now get up.” Poppy huffed but did as she said and quickly got dressed, pulling her hair back with a ribbon to match her vest. While she did that Casey finished braiding her own hair and took a moment to smooth down her bangs.
“Let’s go! Before the boys get there first,” she urged.
“I’m going,” the redhead responded, shoving her shoes on before grabbing Casey’s hand and leading her out with Tinker following.
“I hope the headline is good, I can’t take another day of the trolley strike,” Casey mentioned with a smile
“What’s it matter? We make up the headlines either way,” Tinker pointed out amusedly.
“You know what, you’re right,” the girl giggled as they made their way up to the distribution center. She paused, causing Tinker and Poppy to stop as well (albeit confusedly).
“Woah- new kids,” she observed, staring at a tall boy dressed in a white button up, a brown vest and a blue tie as well as the small kid beside him. The older boy was obviously struggling, and a small commotion occurred between Jack, Davey and Wiesel that was inaudible to the girls from where they stood. Out of the corner of her eye Tinker noticed Poppy looking the boy up and down for a moment.
“Wonder what’s going on,” she trailed off absentmindedly before making her way to the group. Tinker and Casey watched as Poppy stepped in. She talked with Jack for a moment before the boy’s attention was quickly diverted when he noticed a well dressed girl walking by, her arm linked in an equally well dressed boy’s. He quickly walked over and leaned up against the gate of the distribution center, attempting to chat her up.
“I’d be delighted to bring you today's headline personally,” Jack concluded with a cocky grin. The well dressed girl raised her eyebrows at the boy, obviously unimpressed.
“Here, I’ve got a headline for you: cheeky boy gets nothing for his troubles,” she retorted in a flat tone. Tinker watched the admittedly sad display, then she noticed Casey’s awed gaze focused on the well dressed girl. She could tell in an instant that the girl was interested in her. A small smirk formed on her face, and she lightly nudged her with her elbow teasingly. Casey merely shot her a look that said ‘pray for me’ before descending the steps and standing between Jack and Kathrine.
“Alright, Jack, leave the poor girl alone and go be pathetic somewhere else,” she piped up, making the boy step back with his hands up in surrender.
“Ooh,” Tinker groaned jokingly as if she’d just seen someone get hurt as she followed Casey, stopping beside Jack to throw an arm around his shoulder “Yet another swing and a miss by the infamous Jack Kelly. Might wanna go clean your wounds there and try again later cowboy.” With that, she gently pushed Jack away. She was a wingman for Casey above almost all else. She noticed the well dressed (and still unnamed) boy staring at her somewhat distractedly, and offered him a polite smile before facing Jack when he spoke.
“The ladies love me,” he said before walking off. Once he was gone Tinker faced the well dressed boy, watching as he tipped his hat slightly in greeting.
“Good morning,” he said in a soft tone, a polite smile adorning his (admittedly handsome) face.
“Good morning,” she greeted. “Sorry Jack bothered you and your friend here, he’s an idiot.” The boy shrugged.
“It’s alright, though I do wish he would learn some manners,” he muttered.
“Try living with him,” Tinker half joked with a dry smile before giggling. The boy laughed a bit, admiring her for a moment, then held out his hand.
“My name is Darcy.”
“Tinker,” she responded as she shook his hand. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
“Tinker,” Darcy repeated, a little perplexed by the name. “The pleasure is mine”
“That’s probably a lie, but I appreciate it anyway,” the girl teased, but Darcy merely shook his head.
“I don’t lie, or at least I try not to,” he explained with a small laugh. “You sell newspapers, don’t you?”
“Sometimes,” she shrugged, grabbing a paper from Casey’s bag and holding it out to him with a charming smile. “Care to buy one?” The boy laughed softly. He by no means needed a paper, he read the papers before they were even out. And yet he reached into his pocket and grabbed a dime, holding it out to her.
“Sure, why not,” he shrugged. Tinker beamed and handed him the paper, grabbing the dime afterwards.
“Pleasure doin’ business with ya.”
“Likewise,” Darcy responded, looking over the paper. As he held the paper up Tinker managed to get a glance at his watch, then her eyes widened.
“Aw hell, is that the time?” She asked quickly. “I’m late, I gotta go!” And with that she turned and began running towards the Trib.
“Nice meetin’ ya, Darcy!” She called back. Darcy watched her rather abrupt exit curiously. Then he glanced at his watch and hummed thoughtfully. He and Katherine were gonna be late if they didn’t get a move in. So, he gently pulled on Katherine’s arm, allowing her to finish up her conversation with the other newsie girl, Casey. Once they said their goodbyes Darcy began leading her away from the distribution center.
“She was nice,” the girl mentioned with a smile, earning a smirk from him as he nudged her slightly.
“A little more than nice,” he joked, earning a blush from Katherine before he continued. “That other girl was sweet too, a little all over the place though, she ran off without warning.”
“Yeah, I noticed that,” the girl laughed softly. Darcy continued to walk, somewhat lost in thought as he thought over his conversation with the newsie, then he laughed as they made their way up the steps of The Trib.
“She sold me a paper, and I bought it,” he mentioned, which only made the girl laugh again.
“Seriously? Wow, she really must’ve interested you.” The very thought made Dary laugh as well.
“I suppose you’re right,” he agreed as they walked through the doors. He wished her a goodbye before heading for the broken printing press with his eyes on his watch, and he quite literally bumped into someone he hadn’t thought he’d see again. Tinker had been examining the conveyor belt of the printing press when Darcy ran into her, (nearly making her fall over as she’d been leaning over barely balancing as she examined it I might add), emitting a small ‘oof’ noise from her. Just before she could fall a pair of hands wrapped around her waist, and she turned to see who had run into her.
“Hey- oh! Darcy,” she greeted politely (albeit surprised) as she realized their faces were now mere inches from each other. The boy turned red and quickly let her go, stepping back.
“Apologies,” he said quickly, dusting himself off embarrassedly. “I didn’t anticipate running into you here, Tinker, though maybe your name should have eluded me.” Tinker blushed profusely at what was originally their close proximity, then laughed softly.
“Yeah, I think that one’s on you,” she joked back. “One of the employees- uh, Mike, I think?- asked me to come take a look at your printing press. Apparently it ain’t workin’ right, right?”
“Right,” he confirmed, pulling off his coat and rolling up his sleeves a bit as he walked over to the press, setting his hand on the bar and demonstrating the issue. “The type form and platen haven’t been pressing properly on the press stone. I replaced our letters and even the bar but it still hasn’t been pressing clearly, I think there might be something caught or bent in the lever.” He set a paper in the machine and began to press it. It made an odd noise as he did so before pulling up the paper and showing the blotted, uneven printing to Tinker. She winced at the noise it makes then hums thoughtfully.
“It may be the gears surrounding  the lever,” she suggested, crouching to remove the gear and lever cover, beginning to inspect it. Darcy stepped back to let her do her job.
“Where’d you learn to do all this?” He asked, his curiosity having been piqued.
“Dunno,” the girl admitted, pulling her goggles over her eyes and flipping the magnifying lens over her left eye to get a closer look at the connecting gears of the mechanism. “I just learn as I go then use that knowledge to learn more, I guess. I could take this thing apart and put it back together without a manual if I wanted to.” She patted the press before pulling a few tools out of her tool belt. If she would have turned around she would have seen the boy’s smile of admiration.
“That’s pretty impressive. I would be able to do the same, but it would take me quite some time, and I’m not too good with my hands,” he joked lightly. That earned a giggle from the girl and she glanced at him for a moment with her funny looking goggles before turning back to the press.
“Then it’s a good thing they called me in and not you” she joked back, making Darcy grin.
“Well, thank you for doing this.”
“No problem, as long as you make sure I get paid,” she half joked.
“Seems like I did,” he joked back. “How’s that dime treating you?”
“Sitting comfortably in my pocket, waiting to be spent on dinner tonight,” she answered with a grin, earning a nod from the boy.
“So how do you balance it? Selling papers and fixing things I mean.”
“Sellin’ papes is my main job. I’m just open to commission when someone needs somethin’ to be fixed,” she explained as she continued to work. Darcy sat back on another printing press, which was out of commission and being scrapped for parts.
“Have you ever thought about taking a better job?” Tinker shrugged.
“I haven’t put much thought into it, but I can say it would be nice to find something with better pay so I don’t have to worry about whether or not I’m gonna eat everyday.” The boy was silent for a moment as he watched her work.
“Well, I’ve been meaning to hire someone full time to work maintenance…” he trailed off slowly. The girl paused what she was doing and pulled her goggles up to her hairline to look at him properly.
“Wait, are you serious?” She asked eagerly, earning a nod from Darcy.
“Yeah, of course I’m serious. You’d get your own desk and everything, my assistant left so I’ve got one open right by mine, we’ve never had a good maintenance person and you obviously have a good head on your shoulders,” he explained, adjusting his glasses. A bright smile took over her face as she nodded.
“I’d like that a lot. Don’t I need to put in an application, though?”
“I’m looking at the work you're doing and I’m impressed, that’s about all there is to it” he answered with a shrug. “Unless you want to fill out paperwork, but you’ll be doing enough of that once you start doing maintenance reports-”
“No, that’s okay,” Tinker laughed as she shook her head. “Thank you so much, words can’t express how grateful I am for this.” Her joy was apparently contagious because Darcy couldn’t help but smile.
“No, thank you, your talent is much appreciated.”
“Guess I should prove my worth by getting this old girl to work,” she joked, patting the machine before slipping her goggles back on and getting back to work. After several minutes of watching, the boy looked down at her.
“Have you figured out the issue?” Tinker nodded and, after a moment, pulled a small but somewhat thick piece of metal out from between the gears and lever with a pair of pliers.
“I believe I found the problem,” she said, holding it up for him to see. “This was caught between the gears. Looks like a piece broke off of your cover and got lodged deep in there.” She gestured to the mechanism cover, which upon further examination, had a piece missing.
“I thought so. Did it warp the track?” Darcy asked, standing up to walk over to the press.
“I don’t think so,” she answered, glancing at the track. “I think you’re all good to go.” The boy grinned and set a paper on the machine, pressing it before holding it up to look at it.
“Gee, look at you, you did that quick!” He exclaimed softly in awe. Tinker laughed softly and lifted her goggles to her hairline again before placing the cover back on the machine.
“I’m efficient if nothing else,” she half joked. The boy rolled his sleeves back down and pulled on his coat.
“Let me show you your desk and get you your money for that.” The girl placed her tools back in her belt and stood.
“Lead the way- uh, should I call you sir?”
“Never call me sir,” he laughed as he led her to a secretary looking desk that stood in front of a doorway. “Apologies, this was my secretary's desk. She’s since moved away to another opportunity, but it isn’t quite cleaned out.” He continued onto the desk then gestured to the room behind it.
“This is my office, you’re always welcome to come in and hang around or ask me questions, having a private office is terribly lonely.” Tinker hummed in response, marveling at the desk that would apparently be hers from now on for a moment before facing him.
“So how long did it take you to move up to this position?” She asked curiously. Darcy laughed a little.
“Well, not too long at all, but I’ve been around here my whole life so I know my way around the business,” he answered, which surprised the girl.
“Really? Do one of your parents work here?” An amused sort of smile appeared on Darcy’s face, which confused her.
“My father does, yes,” he said, obviously amused at her question. “I don’t think I ever introduced myself properly, my name is Darcy Reid.” He stuck out his hand as if he was introducing himself all over again. Tinker’s eyes widened as a hot wave of embarrassment washed over her. She should’ve connected his name and workplace sooner, but she just hadn’t realized. Her cheeks blushed scarlet red as she took his hand and shook it.
“Hi…” she trailed off embarrassedly. Darcy’s smile turned apologetic, he didn’t want to humiliate her by any means.
“I probably should’ve led with that but I try to not let it define me,” he muttered.
“I can appreciate that,” she nodded, relaxing a little. “I’ve a lot of upper class kids throwing around their last name for popularity and free stuff, it’s refreshing to see otherwise.”
“A name is good, but hard work takes you places,” Darcy concluded.
“I agree 100%,” she nodded and smiled before a thought hit her. “Uh, what would be the dress code for working here? Most of my clothes look like this.” She looked down at her clothes hesitantly. Darcy looked her over and smiled sympathetically.
“I’ll have Kathrine take you out to get new clothes tomorrow morning,” he responded. “Whatever makes you look happy and feel happy.”
“I don’t exactly have the money for high spendin’ here, Darcy,” the girl half joked, but he merely shook his head.
“Don’t you worry about money, I have it covered. You won’t have to worry about money while you work here at the Trib,” he said in a comforting tone. Tinker’s cheeks dusted pink as she offered him a grateful smile.
“I really appreciate that- well, everything, really,” she laughed a little. “Thank you for this opportunity.”
“You’re very welcome,” he said, then glanced up at the clock. “I’m running late for a meeting- I’ll have Kathrine meet you tomorrow at the Manhattan distribution center?” There was a hopeful lilt to his tone that Tinker opted not to read too much into.
“Oh- of course!” She nodded with a small grin.  “See you tomorrow Darcy.” The boy returned her farewell before making his way to Katherine’s office, leaving her to show herself the way out. She didn’t mind, though. She was too excited about her new job (and boss).

Smalls: 10
She’s 13 now
She goes to her family for different things
Stories: Medda
Nightmare: Jack
Can’t sleep: Spot
Just wants cuddles: Crutchie
Theres different reasons behind these
For Medda she tells her stories about her exprience in theatre and Smalls finds them really nice since Medda’s voice is really soothing and she ususally falls asleep listening to her voice
When she was freaked out over a horror movie he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close and well she found it really nice, eventually falling asleep since it was warm there and she was freezing and she relaxed a lot too
When she first moved in she couldn’t sleep that night and went downstairs to get water and then Spot came down cause he couldn’t sleep either (it was 3 am) and he helped her reach a glass and he just let her crash with him for the night (she fell asleep quick)
When Smalls felt sick one night she went down and cuddled with Crutchie since she couldn’t sleep and she ended up falling asleep quickly like that
When her brothers friends spend the night she always tries to avoid the mess
But fails
One of her brothers will always drag her in
OKAY BUT WHEN HER BROTHERS GO OFF TO COLLEGE SHE IS SO HAPPY FOR THEM
When she goes off to college she goes to NYU for nursing
she’s confused too
“Okay so... guys are cute but like wow girls are too”
“We finally have someone attracted to girls”
“Mama’s a lesbian what are you talking about?”

jack kelly synesthesia hcs
okAy i had this idea a while ago and like it’s in a newsies x oc fic im writing that so far only @spoonon has read oOF but anyway yes i hc that our very own whiny baby strike leader has synesthesia !!
-okay okay so like for music and people talking he sees colors, and like the more time he spends with people the more crisp and clear the colors are and they blend well and mMM
-when he was young, his mother would always sing him to sleep, and her colors would be a very light violet and periwinkle
-his father was gone at work a lot, but was still close to him before he died, and his color was kind of a dark purple, and some grey tones due to his greying hair
-that’s about all he can remember about his parents colors :(
-crutchie’s color is a hay like duckling yellow and jack adOres it it’s his favorite shade of yellow because it’s his best friend (or his bf if you ship jackcrutchie (; )
-kath’s colors are magenta and a rich purple wow he was so heart eyes for her and all he painted were purple and pink sunsets for so long
-davey’s colors are a navy blue and a forest green, he adores the color combo and paints it all the time for davey and the first time he gave davey a painting with his colors on it the soft boy cRied (if you ship javey this works too!)
-les is definitely a yellow-green color, the kid is so energetic and always covered in grass stains it’s so perfect for him
-spot colon is a red orange because that boy is a tiny fucking ball of flame that makes jack scared for his life at times
-race is a light orangey yellow and every time he laughs it gets more yellow wow this boy is so cute we stan (1) legend bUt jack adores it when race laughs so he tries to make him do it as often as possible
