Hey, peeps. Lately, I've been going through this uuuuugly artblock for my main project. (This is my first post, scary, lol.. really nervous)

So, a few months back, I drew a Devil May Cry OC. The images are under the 'more' tab, but i would really appreciate it if you read this first. With this art block going on and the urge to draw something other than my main/serious project, I decided to make a small comic of my OC's childhood and how he ended up meeting the main/canon characters/crew.

And if you're new to the DMC world, hello, welcome! I hope this little comic will encourage you to check out the official games, it's pretty fun!

So yeah, there's going to be some sketches/panels of this ship. Dw, nothing too explicit/graphic. It's fluff, lol. I think that's what they call it? There's going to be more information regarding the dmc - oc comic in a future post.

I know there's a lot of different opinions when shipping an oc with a canon character, so that's why I added this little 'more' tab/bar below so in case you're not interested, you can scroll away :) for those who choose to stay and continue on, thank you.

My oc's name is Ezra. He was created when a cool friend of mine invited me to RP the DMC5 storyline with them. I was kinda nervous at first since it was my first time to ever RP with someone. I got the hang of it, though! And it was fun! (The next/future post will provide more information of that if anybody is interested. Since it's kinda the reason why Ezra exists in the first place.) I am not sure if I will include the RP events in this comic, since like I've mentioned, it took place in the DMC5 storyline, and its quite a lottt. Just like the canon game. So I might draw the day (i mean the in-game time) after the Qliphoth was taken down. Or summarize the DMC5 storyline. There's still a lot of time to think about it since I'm going to start off with the background of this character, then when he becomes an adult, and then when he meets the crew.

☝️ This is how the cover of my oc's DMC comic will look like. The title is blurred out because I am still debating whether I should change it or not. Lol, it's kinda edgy, I might keep it that way.

☝️These right here are adult/present Ezra and a few panels of Vergil. I am still experimenting with the way I draw Vergil since I want to have him look a little closer to the game than the way he looks in manga. (Which is hard since I prefer drawing the exact style of any series official art... Because if I do it in my own version, it never looks like the character. So yes, this is a challenge.)

The drawing with Ezra's full body is supposed to be Ezra holding his scythe over his shoulder, but I gave up on finishing it since I didn't like the way his coat looked. You can even tell from the different coats he has in the other panels/images...

The image with Ezra getting food poisoning was from eating Dante's food. This idea stems from all those memes with Dante creating unidentified matter, whereas other characters like Vergil make decent food.

The first image and 3rd image are actually linked together, hehe. I wonder if any of you know the tilted towers reference? Lol

☝️Another Vergil sketch. He is laid next to Ezra in bed. (You can see the pillow that Ezra is cuddling with peeking in that image, lol). This moment is related to Vergil's nightmares.

☝️ The first image out of the two is one out of the 2 closest friends BEFORE the DMC5 events. I think you will really like them. They've put a huge impact on Ezra's life and are the very reason for the way/who he is today. I still don't have a design for the other friend, that's why it's not provided here.

The second image is just baby Ezra, not having a clue what the adults are talking about. The adults definitely didn't call him that...

☝️Lastly, this is my reaction once I created this DMC OC and decided to ship him with Vergil. I have no clue why Samsung does this to my images once edited, lol.

The same friend mentioned before also had me create an OC for a game that they play, and I failed to not grow attached to this character. (What!? I created them. They're like my own children now!) I might show u guys how he looks like when I finish his design.

Haha, I add lazy watermarks (even though my art ain't that worthy) because I've seen small artist get their art clapped by a-hole users without permission. This has also happened to me, but it was yeeeaaarrrsss ago. This is why I don't post much of my art nowadays. Especially with the "art" bot-stealing going around. I need to find a better way to not let it happen to my art ever again.

12. The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

-This one's hard mostly bc characters that are unpopular in DD are typically the ones in character limbo. I would say Kirsten McDuffie and Sam Chung for sure bc there's only a few of us that enjoy those characters and they weren't sentenced to m/cu hell so there's that. Kirsten is one of the best DD characters written. She's so silly and funny, also she's legit what m/cu KP fans want from her like go read comics for once. Sam is also really fun but his character and storyline got fleshed out sm throughout vol 5 and I rec reading his arc. Other candidates would be Shroud, Milla Donovan, Willie Lincoln, and Tagak, who are all disabled characters. Despite Willie and Tagak being in character limbo, they're both blind characters with one of them (Willie) being friends with Matt and Foggy at one point and even helped them plenty of times in vol 1. Funny how DD writers just abandon other blind characters bc they don't want Matt to have disabled friends huh really makes you think...

For DD: I feel like not a lot of dd comic fans talk about how Matt disguised himself a lot. And I mean A LOT. Both when hes Matt Murdock and as Daredevil. Homeboy was literally the Spy from tf2 it was so good I wish they bring that back.

For DMC: We need to talk about the dmc anime more esp at the end of episode 2 where Dante was very much flirting with the biker dude, Vincent, at the end. The tone, the bet he placed (if I win, you buy me dinner), why did he say it like that 🤨📸

25. Common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

- I can't really think of one for the fandoms I'm in atm but I'm going to go with some people on Twitter constantly comparing Batman to a cop or saying he's horrible for fighting mentally ill criminals while ignoring the fact that he is also mentally ill AND he provides rehabilitation and resources to them as Bruce Wayne. It's just a clear indication that they don't read comics. You can def make an argument and criticize batman if you know what you're talking about and have the sources at hand, but these people make it clear every single time that they have no idea what they're talking about and their sources are either out of context comic panels where it was written by Tom King or going by the word of anti bruce wayne people. It doesn't happen often, but it pops up every once in a while whenever Batman is trending.

Q&A: Battles in the Rain and Writing Character Action Games

Hello! I’m not sure if this was already asked, but do you have any tips for combat in the rain? I’m writing a monster hunting/fight scene DMC/Devil May Cry style. However I don’t want to make the character mow through enemies in this scene like they’re butter lol

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that pretty much the combat of tempo of the Devil May Cry series? Individual enemies may be able to take a few hits, but the entire score system is built around smearing through them efficiently. Like most character action games, you’re going to kill a lot of things as you go. The only enemies who should stay on screen for any significant time are mini-bosses and the actual boss fights, which are a bit spongy.

It’s also worth keeping mind that the entire DMC series are spectacle fighters. This puts them in line with titles like (the original) God of War series, Nier (sort of), Bayonetta… actually, nearly everything from PlatinumGames, excluding Vanquish, come to think of it. The genre is characterized by flashy, visually engaging, combat.

When you’re wanting to adapt combat from that genre, the medium you’re working with becomes an important consideration. The key word there is, “visual.” Comics and animation can easily capture the kinetic quality to the genre. In prose, the genre struggles, because those visual flourishes slow down the reader. Most readers will mentally vocalize the text they’re reading, and this means when you take time to describe what your character is doing in detail, that will slow your reader down. The visually rich, high tempo combat style of games like DMC demands both detail and speed, meaning you’ll need to make some very difficult choices.

This is also an issue for comics. The more panels you use to detail what’s happening, the more that will slow your reader down. This is why things like motion lines can be very useful to imply action, without resorting to a storyboard structure (with step-by-step thumbnails), because that would slow the sequence down.

In prose, you’re usually interested in the results, and getting there as efficiently as possible. I’m going to use God of War for a moment. The Blades of Chaos are fairly dull from a prose perspective. Kratos swings them, and if he’s in the same zip code as his target, he’s going to connect. What makes them interesting is the animation behind the chains themselves. The way they spin. This can be conveyed in comic panels (though, the exact stylizing would be different), but as a potential weapon in a written work, they’re surprisingly uninteresting. In contrast, his Leviathan Axe (from the reboot) is a much better weapon choice for prose. It allows direct strikes with consideration for things like range, it has a built in limitation (it causes frost damage, making it useless against foes who are immune to the cold), and it has a distinct power with easily articulatable rules, (it can be thrown and recalled.)

This, sort of, brings me back to one of my reservations with “DMC style combat.” I’m not wild about the idea of having to write the air combos. Now, that’s me, I’m not writing your story, and if this really excites you, go ahead. From a gameplay perspective, extended air juggling is a skill based reward. If you’re good enough with the timing, you can juggle enemies and continue combat in the air. From a written perspective it’s ridiculous, and making it feel, “earned,” without being gratuitous would be quite difficult.

As for writing fights in the rain… it’s rain.

In prose, writing environmental conditions is a lot easier than it sounds. You establish the condition, and then you only need to reference it after that point when it becomes relevant, or the conditions change.

So, if it’s raining, you only really need to say that. Depending on perspective, you probably want to be able to describe the experience of being in the rain. Including details like how heavily it’s raining and the temperature, along with whatever steps (if any) your character may be taking to avoid getting wet. Though, at some point, the fighters will probably be out in the rain.

After that, the only times you need to worry about the rain is when it either adds texture to the moment, such as the character getting wet, their clothes getting heavier as they’re soaked, water on their weapons (or the weapons’ grips.) Possibly washing away grime. Dirt deteriorating to mud, making the ground less stable. Blood getting washed away by rainwater.

As the writer, you want to keep in mind things like how long and heavily it’s been raining, and then evaluate how that affects the environment, but you don’t need to include that except when it’s relevant. Simply saying that it’s been raining heavily all day, can help set the scene for the audience. On the other hand, you can have a fight in the cold front before the rain starts coming down, and fight through the storm arriving.

In the latter case, you’d want to note things like when the rain starts, and if it starts pouring. It’s important to remember that most fights don’t last very long, so this is unlikely to happen mid-combat, though if your characters are fighting in a series of skirmishes broken up by downtime (such as one trying to escape), then this can extend the sequence to the point where you would see significant changes in the weather.

One storm related event that might be worth noting are lightning strikes. These will break up the sequence, and slow the pace down, but they can be useful to subtly suggest how far away the storm is. There’s a seven second per mile delay between seeing the lightning strike and hearing the thunder. Closing the gap between these two can allow you to communicate to the reader that the storm it getting closer, without having to be heavy handed about it.

Mfkz fandom is dead but I just wanna say some things, and I honestly might delete this later, but in RUN’s (the creator of mfkz) insta there’s a few videos of him working on the sequel for the mfkz comic. I took some screenshots and videos and here’s my thoughts on them. [most of these screenshots will be very blurry, so bare with me.]

Let’s start with this one, we see lino and vinz arguing about something. Since the text is blurry AND in French I can’t really make it out and translate it. But I assume lino is going somewhere due to the duffle bag he is holding and lino going towards the city (I assume DMC). I’m sorta guessing but maybe lino is going somewhere and vinz wants to stay because they have now well paying jobs (vinz works at that place now where he cooks the steaks ((forgot what it was called lmao)) and lino works at that sushi place at the end of the comic). So vinz probably wants to stay and save up money now that they finally have better-paying jobs then before, while lino is leaving to somewhere for.....some reason.

These 3 screenshots are lowkey funny to me ngl I just love how vinz is arguing with a roach. Anyways, I assume this is taking place after lino is gone?? Bc the roach seems like he’s asking where tf lino is. Also this is just a random guess but maybe the men in black or something are back?? Vinz seems nervous tbh 🤷‍♀️

I’m not really sure what’s going on in this one,, maybe vinz was running away and he had to jump into water?? It seems like it, but in one of the panels he seems kinda in distressed..? Maybe with his flame it’s hard to be in water? Maybe it hurts him? Idk idk

This is a post from RUN’s insta from 2018,,,it’s just a piece of art but if you look at the bottom of vinz feet there’s no water touching him, but just surrounding him. So maybe he really can’t touch water?

Then there’s this photo, it seems like we’re gonna get a lot of backstory from the sequel. Since we already know that lino and vinz grown up in an orphanage, so we might get a lot of scenes for that which I’m excited about. Although this image is pretty self explanatory, it’s just outta context. On the very top panels someone (I assume an adult) is scolding them. I think lino might’ve gotten into a fight and so has vinz (with other kids), since they’re both on the floor and lino looks beat up while vinz jaw came off, AND lino is helping vinz off the floor.

This video.......Brings up a lot of questions to me. Someone (another kid at the orphanage) seems to be protecting lino (from bullies I assume??) and........is the boy vinz??? If not who is he?? I have no idea tbh I’m just guessing at this point.

Then there’s THIS photo, I’m taking a guess and saying that’s vinz, idk idk

So they end up getting reunited, and there’s other screenshots sorta proving that (I’m just using the ones that seem more interesting) and I remember seeing a photo of them being in Las Vegas, but I can’t find that photo anymore so 💔

Ok I’m done with the screenshots now, I just took the ones that seemed the most interesting to me, but there’s a lot more on RUN’s [@/777run] insta. I’m honestly excited for anything to happen so yea, these were just my thoughts

Con-Nichiwa 2021

As the title suggests, I went to a convention in my area recently (well...more like just came back from it as I came home from it yesterday) and I had a good time all things considered!

First, I want to say it was SUPER refreshing to get out of the house (god knows I need it) and interact with people. And despite my social woes, I actually did pretty good since knowing myself and how much of a socially awkward mess I can be. This is especially so for the casual friends I made and new acquaintance @reactorcoreart!

Aside from that, I just enjoyed walking around the Artist Alley and seeing what they had on display. There was more things I wanted to buy aside from the haul I brought back with me, but I knew if I bought more I wouldn't have any place to put them! xD (i'll list the things I got at the end of the post and probs gonna post images at a later time.)

Also, I unknowingly met one of my idols! Context: I recently binge-read all of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (which in my opinion is a good read, if you wan to read something from early 2010s that's campy, silly, meme worthy, and cute then I'd suggest it!) But, back on topic, I got to meet someone who helped work on the comic!! I even commissioned him and got a really cute piece of art I get to hang on my wall! ;w;

As for the panels/events, I thought about attending some but I ended up changing my mind and stuck with the Artist Alley and taking pictures of cosplayers xD

Overall, I had a really fun time going and I'm considering going to the Phoenix Comic-Con May 2022! (As well as the next Con-Nichiwa whenever that comes up) ----------------------------------------------------------------
