it took me 3 years to start reading the ballad of songbirds and snakes because I was very cynical about a villain prequel that kinda sounded like a cash grab, but it only took me 2 days to finish it. this is a really, really good book. holy shit. Snow is such a good villain protagonist. I called him a terrible person as quickly as chapter two and he still managed to elicit some sympathy (granted, from me, notorious villain stan). But that didn't change the fact that he was a terrible person the entire time. What a great change from the popular 'this villain was such a good person before!' prequels we often see

The day she found out her husband was having an affair it felt like time had stopped. Thousands of questions sworn inside her head, she didn’t blame her husband or the other woman nope she blamed herself. It was her fault her husband was unfaithful, it was her fault she had not been enough for him, it was her fault for not satisfying his needs. It was her fault. 

After the self-blaming and self-hating she moved on to anger. Angry at her husband betraying her, angry at the other woman - a woman she had called a friend for 15 years - angry at herself, just unadulterated anger. 

Then came the self-pity party, where all she did was cry and cry and cry. She would stand in front of the full body mirror just in her underwear, picking at every single detail on her skin hating what she saw in the reflection. Then she would cry even more due to the fact that after finally loving and being kind to her own body, she was back to hating it. However, she didn’t just feel sorry for herself, no, no she felt sorry for her husband, her children, her husband’s mistress and the husband of her husband’s mistress.

Oh and then there was denial - but that went straight out of her head pretty quickly, after all she did catch them going at it with her own two eyes.

And finally came acceptance. She accepted her husband’s extra marital affair, she accepted that she had been betrayed by two people close to her. Completely aware that her marriage was over and dead.

Her heart remained broken though, that would never change.

The sound of the door opening use to bring a smile on Y/ns face, sending her straight to the door awaiting him like a goddamn lapdog. Now though all it did was make her wonder which excuse she was going to be given. 

Sitting on the sofa with her knees pulled up staring at the tv screen, chuckling quietly to herself as Peter Griffin continues his antics, wondering to herself why Lois puts up with him. Already smelling the mistress’s perfume on him makes her roll her eyes. 

“Hey bab-“

“I filed for divorce.”

He actually has the audacity to act shocked “w-what do you mean? Bab-“

“Stop. Just stop. I know about your affair, I know you’ve been sleeping with Sharon for the past six months, probably longer I don’t know” mumbling the last part quietly “but all that matters is that I know so now we’re getting divorced.”

She sees him in her peripheral nervously shifting foot to foot, colour completely drained from his face, is that tears? Gross. Before he can even get a good enough excuse for his betrayal straight, she continues.

“Don’t say anything it’s not going to change my mind or decision. I spoke with my lawyer who thinks I’m being to kind - his words not mine - anyway I told him in don’t want money or the house from you. Custody will be split between us evenly” standing up wrapping her arms around herself “you know at first I wanted so many answers but now I just want to know one thing, do you think you can be honest for once? Do you actually think Sharon is going to want you know that I’m leaving you? Think you both can run off into the sunset and live happily ever after?” Using a baby like voice at the end she chuckles at his expression, she can’t tell if it’s heartbreak that she’s leaving him or heartbreak that his mistress isn’t going to want him anymore - laughable. 

“The answer is no by the way. I feel bad though, you both deserve each other. Both so wrapped up in your own selflessness that you were happy to ruin two marriages, two families! To betray, lie and deceive your spouses who happen to be friends! All for what? Sex?” Stepping back when he tries to reach out “don’t fucking touch me! Don’t you dare try and touch me AFTER you’ve been with her! What the actual fuck is wrong with you? And don’t you dare stand there and cry! You did this, you both did. Oh and Steve knows” Literally as she said that his phone started ringing “Go ahead and answer it’s probably your best friend or your mistress, go ahead James and answer” at the sound of his first name he flinched, he pulled his phone out and sighed, declining the call he looked back at the woman who he had the privilege of calling his wife. The mother of his children, the woman who he has loved from the moment he was introduced to her. The woman who he cheated on.

“I’m sorry” is all he could say, he really didn’t remember how the affair started or why on earth he continued it, he has this perfect wife at home, his other half his soulmate and he cheated, he couldn’t even give her a good enough excuse. His guilt was hitting like a ton of bricks, he betrayed his wife and his best friend all for a quick fuck that wasn’t even good.

“You’re sorry? I’m sorry too. I’m sorry that when the morning comes, you’re going to have no one. I feel for you James honestly - stop swaying you’re making me feel seasick, sit down.” Watching him sit on the chair she moves to sit where she was originally sat before.

“Listen I just want to get this off my chest before I go to bed okay, I have loved you so deeply that I honestly don’t think I’d ever stop loving you but James I can’t forgive you, maybe one day in the future I will but not right now. I have been stood by your side through every single thing that has happened to you, and yet you betray me. I don’t know what went wrong with us but whatever I did I’m sorry-“ when he tries to intervene she puts her hand up “Just listen! I’m sorry that our story has ended this way but i can’t trust you anymore or even stand the sight of you if I’m being honest. You have given me something that I can't live without, you mustn't underestimate that when you are in doubt. But this is where our story ends.” 

Wiping her tears with the sleeve of her jumper, she stands up stronger and taller than ever before. 

“You can sleep on the sofa or head to Sharon’s I know Steve said he’d be staying with Sam and Nat. Tomorrow I’ll be taking the kids to our new house and then I guess we’ll go from there” Shrugging her shoulders as she doesn’t know what else to say to him. “Goodnight James, I truly hope you all the best”

Once in the comfort of her bedroom she listens to hear his movements but all she can hear are his cries. Smiling sadly, she climbs into the bed, she fears the unknowing of what her future holds whilst also excited for it.

For the first time since she found out about her husband’s affair she sleeps peacefully.

When was the last time you cried?

“Oh, pfft! I don't cry. Maybe out of sheer boredom listening to Dr. Ass-ghar ramble on about her rules and how I'm not following them! Like, girl, I can't help that I have fire powers and lit something on fire! That would be like getting mad that Gabe got a little dirty. Oh, and her meetings are the wooorst. Yeah crying for my life in there.” [It was during Ewan's clarinet solo actually]

Do you have kids?

“Girl, what? I'm not even eighteen yet! Close... I'd love kids, honestly. A lot of them! I'd have so much fun with them!”

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

“Look, I know I come across as someone who uses sarcasm, but I'd rather just flat out say what I'm thinking. Why be like ‘wow that was so riveting’ when I could say, ‘this is the most boring crap I have ever seen in my entire life’? So much easier, no mental hoops. Besides, Ewan is the most oblivious to sarcasm I have ever seen.”

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

“Their confidence level. I can usually tell how someone feels about themselves based on how they stand. Posture is the key, but also what they're doing with their hands.”

What’s your eye colour?

“Brown. With some golden flecks when the light hits them right, according to Ewan.”

Scary movies or happy endings?

“Easy, scary movies. This question is stupid - they aren't opposites. However, nothing is more fun than a horror movie. Love getting the blood pumping. Yelling at the characters for being massive dummies is also the best. Horror is the most entertaining to watch with others. Ewan thank the Lord is also a horror enthusiast. We make a habit to have at least one or two horror movie nights a month.”

Any special talents?

“Oh, several. I am pretty athletic. Took cheerleading a while back and now I am on my high school basketball team. At first, I wasn't sure I would like basketball - my coach in middle school pulled me aside and recommended it due to my height, but I love it now. I am also getting pretty good at learning archery. Lighting the arrows on fire makes that more exciting. I am also pretty good at martial arts and my pyrokinesis. Working on breathing fire without burning my throat. Thank the Lord I have Wade to heal me so I can try again!”

Where were you born?

“I was born in flippin' Utah. I know--lily white state, you'd never guess. Ewan and I plan to move somewhere else once we can. Can you believe he was born in Alium? That ain't fair.”

Do you have any pets?

“Ewan and I plan to one day get a dog. We have been planning on moving in together for a while.”

What sort of sports do you play?

“Like I said, basketball. I would love to learn how to play this Alii fireball sport. It's very similar to basketball, but pyrokinetics pass around fire. That sounds like so much fun, man. Did you know they have to keep a healer at each game because not all pyrokinetics are immune to fire? And the audience can get hit too if they're not careful! This sounds like such a fun sport.”

How tall are you?

“I have finally passed six-foot-three. Alii heights are a blessing and a curse.”

What was your favourite subject in school?

“I hope you tell me PE counts as a subject cause I ain't saying anything else. School sucks, girl. I have gotten detention for the lamest reasons imaginable.”

“I would love to be in sales. Something about convincing people to do what I want is inticing. Planning on getting a marketing degree when I go to college next year.”

he hates coffee, but marking and juggling all his work means it's often the only thing keeping him awake, and my man, he likes to take his coffee with enough cream and sugar to kill a small child. for energy, of course.

he likes to sleep. will commit murder if someone disturbs him.

Severus fucking Snape didnt become friends with Lily fucking Evans cuz she was pretty. nope. Twas cuz ma girl was powerful as heck(like him) and, more importantly, a bitch(like him). You are kidding yourself if ya think their friendship was anything other than that.

his relationship with his parents is a toxic one in that there IS some level of care there, but Tobias is too much of a depressed 30 something man to be a good father and Eileen was too much of a proud hag to be a good mother, and Severus was too much like them to be able to deal with their shit.

a huge part of why he used the mental arts so much was cuz he couldn't handle his emotions easily for the longest time, and would burst at the smallest thing. this was the trait that made him such a good target for bullying. the one trait he could never quite get rid of- just hide, under steel walls and scars that opened far too easily.

after lily died, he occluded to the point of magical exhaustion and ended up collapsing. wrecked his body to the point of him not being able to move for months. this was one of the first, and only things he learned to be kind to himself for, and relaxed with his occlumency shields as much as he could. and then voldy returned, and. well.

he is the Slytherin house's hero. not that he understands why. something about the whole, evil, dark, vampire aesthetic was very appealing ya see.

my man wears heels to look taller. not accepting arguments

his whole outfit was carefully planned. 20s Snape had FUN, I tell you. My man spent YEARS cultivating his whole vibe, from the expressions, to the poetry, to the ROBES- perfection, perfection. have you any idea how much he argued with tailors that, no, he actually didn't give a fuck if the robe he wanted was too tight for pockets. what the actual FUCK do you mean.

the buttons have so much history

his eye colour is actually just. gray, but like my man likes the whole vibe of ✨ obsidian ✨ more so. makes sure to stay around dimly lit areas for maximum effect.

he did actually go to school before hogwarts, but like he couldn't control his magic, so my man would bust the lights and flood the bathrooms and make the chairs hit the teachers he didn't like. The AMOUNT of confounding Eileen had to do to distract the town from their magic- worthy of a book series on its own.

OUGH. Definitely something really bad happening to him or people close to him, and also stress </3

As for crying itself... Toby's social environment during his childhood and teenage years was sadly...not so good </3. Competitiveness and overall toxic environment really affected him, and so he started to hide his emotions so he wouldn't look "weak" among his peers. He's slowly getting rid of this habit but waking up in Halcyon and seeing all that definitely fucked up all the process he had :(

Crying is something that's really hard for him to show, and to be honest I don't think that he's ever done it in front of anyone else but Klara :(

👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?

Tobias's dad & mother got divorced when he was six, and his mother decided to cut all ties between them, so Toby didn't really know his father until like, accidentally meeting him a few months before leaving Earth. They managed to catch up a little and I'd say they had a good relationship 🥺

As for his mother and stepfather...It's bad (tm). He comes from a place where competition was strong among the community even btwn children which already brought some pressure ino his life, but while you'd think he'd get at least some support from his family, nope. His mother and stepfather wanted a perfect child, someone who's always on the top of all kind of competitions, school tests and hobbies. And while he managed to do what they wanted, it has definitely affected his mental health AND his relationship with them.

They wanted him to become a doctor, but he hated even the idea of it. That's not what he wanted. And so, when the time came to apply to college, he instead chose the one that was as far away from home and chose the subject he loved the most - a first time he actually made his own choice instead of following his parents' wishes. They reacted strongly, disagreeing and saying that they do not want someone who didn't want to strive for the best to be part of their family, and were like, "maybe you should think about it and go to x instead." He realized that there really is no point in staying in a family that only sees him as a way to show off in front of neighbors, instead of appreciating him as he is, and left. They haven't seen each other after that.

Does he have siblings? Yes, a sister. But he doesn't know about her :(

💤 SLEEPING - do they fall asleep easily? what helps them sleep?

No 😭 He's the worst at falling asleep and it might take him an hour on average to actually fall asleep. Additionally to just not being able to fall asleep quickly, another problem is that he's so used to the way he slept back on Earth (lots of pillows, ability to open the window, Klara sleeping close to him etc etc.) it's even harder for him to fall asleep. Fear or eye trauma is a big one, he's so afraid of it that he starts feeling very uncomfortable even when seeing a simple photo of it.

He's also scared of deep water. Rivers and ponds are fine, but if it's something where you can't stand and still have your head above water, he's not even stepping close to the water.

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

Self doubt 😔 Everyone tends to see him as someone who's always confident and sure about everything he does, but that is definitely not who he is. He's always bad at decisions, tends to dwell on his mistakes and other possible outcomes, and never believes in his own skills. But why shatter everyone's image of himself by showing that side to them?

Normally he has the typical firery dark side glow to his eyes, that like gold-red flickering mix that's very, you know //chef kiss. But normally he has very dark brown eyes, nearly black. You can only see that it's brown in a brighter light being shone on him but it's been a very long time since he's allowed himself to slip like that or that the dark side has left him long enough to allow them to peek through.

👪FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?

He has two younger half-siblings, both of which are non force-sensitives. A younger brother in the typical Imperial military and younger sister as an entrepreneur. All of them raised by a single mother; his birth was a mistake from a quick affair between his mother and a Sith, and his younger siblings came from a separate father who left them when they were early on (and whom he subsequently hunted down after he came from Korriban) He is very close to his family and shoulders the responsibility for all of them. He was even a big part of raising his younger siblings before his powers manifested themselves.

NOPE. He is very much a city boy. Born and raised in New Adasta on Ziost, the very bustling metropolis was his kind of plasteel and concrete jungle, so now being introduced to the Dromund Kaas jungle is definitely NOT ideal. He does enjoy the snow, though, and skiing is a favorite sport of his.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

RIVAL FOR EL. The rest of the pieces came afterwards. First thing I decided was that he was BIG, just large frame, big personality, strong, large, dangerous dude to play opposites to El in the way that Defense and Offense are opposites. But they have a lot of the features the same and some of the same story beats and know each other, in that same mentality that Defense/Offense are both also similar. Two sides to the same coin and all.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

I feel like this is a given for any Sith because there is the very courtly mask where you're expected to act in a certain way and be a certain way for the sake of the Empire and saving face amongst the peers and especially in the rank and file of the Dark Council. He is fearsome and vicious and very traditional with a more conservative mindset. To a point all those notes are still true in other aspects of his life, however he is more reasonable, understanding, and far more caring   towards his family and loved ones than he ever lets on towards outsiders. He idolizes some of the traditional pillars of the Imperial lifestyle and one of the chief among them is family.

Think back as far as you can. What is the first memory you have?

My first memory is from the time I injured my leg when it got stuck in the bicycle wheel. I was super super young, so I don't remember anything too clearly, only like a still image of a hospital corridor, no details or anything, just a flash of light at the end and some doors.

What is something you remember enjoying very much as a small child?

Making up my own stories or changing existing ones into my own version. I guess I was a fanfiction writer before I knew what that was lol.

How old were you, when you made your very first friend?

My mum and dad's friends had two daughters who were around my age, so we basically knew each other since birth and were always friends. We lost touch, sadly, but I'm happy to run into them.

Was there a story somebody read or told you that has stuck with you?

Yeah, my grandpa liked to tell me stories about his fake adventures with his village gang lol. Lol no. I never ever found it easy, but I think it's even harder in adulthood. Like, I'd have an easier time talking to people now than I did in the past, but everyone kind of has their own thing going on and it's rare to find someone who wants and has time for new friends.

What is something about people that annoys you?

How selfish almost everyone is, including myself. I genuinely believe a lot of people don't even do it on purpose, but yeah.

What is something about people that you really like?

I like that they can be very creative. I mean, look how much we've made and make every single day. That's so cool.

If you live alone, what would be your criteria for a roommate?

I don't, but if I had to find a roommate, I guess I'd look for someone easy to compromise with and who's ready to give me my space sometimes. Someone responsible, I guess.

I don't want a spouse so I don't have criteria for one. But generally speaking, I think it's important to have someone reliable and comfortable by your side if you're talking about long-term. And someone you vibe with.

I do, I love abstract art personally. The less I understand the better, it allows me to make my own interpretations.

What is something about another country's culture you don't understand?

Well, there are some weird-ass traditions in other countries, but that's the case everywhere. Here we used to have a really weird tradition too, where a woman whose fiance died before marriage still had to marry him after his death. So like, guess I can't judge.

I do, but it's been a while. So I'm not totally sure what I've seen last.

Depends, I obviously read on my own, but as for watching TV shows, I really struggle to do it by myself.

I don't, I'm one of those people. The only thing I judge is when I'm sitting with a friend and they're just on their phone the whole time, completely disinterested in the conversation. That's one thing I don't do, although I did in the past, long time ago.

If your connection goes down, what do you do?

Depends. If I'm in the middle of something important, then obviously get annoyed. But if not, then well, I don't care.

Is there something you wish you could do online that isn't possible yet?

Hmm, not sure.

I don't remember exactly, but sometime in mid 2000s.

I loved 9gag. It probably still exists, but I don't think it's nearly as big of a deal as it was when I used it.

I actually made one before, but I abandoned it.

I don’t even hazve a licence lol. But I can say I don’t like my ID photo. The way they take ID photos in Belgium makes everyone look like they’ve escaped the Alcatraz. You have to front face the camera and you’re absolutely forbidden to smile.
