Mum only wants to eat the same tried and tested foods every time we went out but me and my trusty camera like to experience new dishes. We both love Feng Food (台湾味 “丰”) which sells Taiwan-style foods so that is a compromise.
Yeah, mum went for the same old Guan Miao Mian with Specially Marinated Pork Chop (猪排关庙面) at S$12.80+. Between this and the fried rice version, I preferred the latter as I am the “rice bucket” kind of guy. :D The pork chop is flavourful with the ginger seasoning coming through and the meat so tender and juicy.
As for me, I picked this limited Sunrise Crispy Chicken Cutlet Rice (日出鸡腿排饭). Limited as in they only have a fixed number of this S$13.80+ dish to sell each day. A big piece of boneless chicken leg fried crispy occupied one half of the bowl. The white rice is drizzled with the gravy from their braised pork and topped with an over easy egg. Coupled with two side dishes of pickled cucumbers and vegetables to complete the dish. Just from looking at it already makes your mouth waters.

Helloooo farmer friends!! So last night my friend @pavusprince mentioned how she doesn’t understand the toothpaste mint chocolate chip ice cream comparison and that got me thinking!! Let’s talk about food!!
Does your farmer like mint chocolate ice cream? Does it taste like toothpaste? Are they neutral, or do they hate it?
During the summer does your farmer visit Alex’s ice cream stand? What flavor/treat do they buy? What’s their least favorite flavor?
What is one treat your farmer will ALWAYS have in their home? Is it healthy or unhealthy?
If your farmer was a snack item what would they be? (It cannot be a food that could be eaten like a meal, but it may be a dessert) Here’s some examples: chips, cookies, M&ms, Twinkies, crackers, bubblegum, lollipops, etc
What’s your farmer’s comfort food, favorite meal, and least favorite meal?
What’s something they will NEVER eat?
What do they cook if they know they will have a guest over?
If the town’s potluck didn’t matter so much, what ingredient would they take? And what food would they put at an event table if you had to bring something?
Finally, if your farmer was real, what would YOU give them to eat.

Chicken and waffles
Chicken and waffles is a classic Southern dish that combines crispy fried chicken with fluffy waffles, topped with sweet syrup. The savory and sweet flavors create a perfect balance, making it a popular comfort food. The chicken is typically seasoned with spices like garlic powder and smoked paprika, while the waffles are made with a simple batter of flour, sugar, baking powder, and buttermilk.…

From my favourite economy rice stall located in Chong Pang Food Centre came this box of Brunch. As usual the fried chicken drumstick is warm and crispy after mum’s journey home from the market. Coupled with an over easy egg and yummy mutton rendang, it makes for a delicious late morning meal.

I wish I'd gotten into watching Irish YouTubers sooner. Like, not just JackSepticEye but RTGame and CallMeKevin and a bunch of others.
It sounds weird to say "I relate to the experiences they share" as a black person from the American South, but there's a lot of overlap I didn't realize until this year. There's a lot of stereotypes that people throw at them as "lol it's a joke" that come across as borderline racist shit (tell me how the "Oh Irishmen love potatoes" jokes are any different than joking every time I eat watermelon. Seriously, if you have a non-racist explanation for that I'd love to hear). And there's a lot of assumed substance use by race (the whole "Irish people are drunks" thing is uncomfortably close to home for me, since I've had people assume I'm on a lot of high-level narcotics just because I'm black and poor).
And then there's the name thing. I started watching Daithi De Nogla a while back, and that was when I first started noticing the whole "your name is weird bc it's not from our culture" thing that people do to him and other Irish YouTubers with Irish names on their channel. I have a big issue with people not even bothering to try to pronounce names in other languages, and considering I have a 4-syllable non-English birth name it's a frustration I personally really relate to. It got me thinking about some of the people I grew up with that were judged for having "Ethnic" names that were generally just names from other non-white cultures (a bunch of people at my middle school went by nicknames because no one ever bothered to try and pronounce their actual name, and I was one of them. I actually knew a lot of black girls that were treated like they had "ghetto" names and then you look at the name and it's something like Siobhan (which hey, that's an Irish name). I was embarrassed about my Swahili middle name for years bc I thought it was clunky and no one could pronounce it (Mwanajuma. It means "born on a Friday") but the fact of the matter is I was only embarrassed by my name bc no one respected the language it was from.
This is a long rambly post, but basically all I wanted to say is I can relate to a lot of the things people joke about with Irish folks, from a standpoint of "y'know if you were saying that about my background people would be calling you incredibly racist"
