27. what do you listen to while writing?

It depends on the scene! I have to be careful listening to songs with lyrics, as I can find them distracting. Like I can't hear my own thoughts over the vocalist? I'll also get caught up trying to write to rhythm of the music. (That being said I listen to music a lot BEFORE I write as source of inspiration/set the vibe)

I really enjoy listening to ambient/atmospheric songs. Here are a few!

Well first I want to thank you Jules for this question, as it forces me to self-reflect in a POSTIVE way, which I think all of us writers could do more of. Be proud of your work!! Anywho here a few lines I loved :)

This quote describes both Kiyoomi's and my relationship with OCD so it has a lot of personal meaning for me :')

I also liked this description of Kiyoomi thinking Atsumu is about to touch him after a successful service ace (they're thirteen during this)!

Miya steers clear of Kiyoomi and drops down onto the ground in front of his spewing bag. A sudden caesura. The closing of a conductor’s fist. Kiyoomi’s worries tucked away in the bed of his palm. It leaves him almost dizzy. To be well within someone’s reach, only for them to take nothing but his breath. Hold it for him in their hand.

both of these quotes I like in terms of their prose and what they represent thematically! This one pertains to what Suna sees as the inevitability of Osamu leaving him due to outside forces.

Osamu kisses him back like he’s crafting rice, wrapping hands, looking at stars. He kisses Rin like he’s an open wound and he knows. (Rin should stop acting as if he doesn’t.) He kisses Rin like they have time. 

They don't. Not really. Not even the rain can make Rin forget that now.

Now.

Now, Rin thinks of gravity. Gravity, the pinnacle force, which tethers together the earth and moon. Gravity which can tug on time and space like Osamu does with Rin’s hair to kiss his neck. (He does). Gravity which can pull a moment away from the greedy hands of memory. Gravity which can make something last.

Rin knows forever is too much to ask of anything, of anyone. But could he at least ask for this moment to last? Stretch it out like Osamu’s back in the grass. Cup it like his face in the morning. Hold it like his body in bed. Could Rin at least ask for this moment to last? Please? For now?

Now?

No.

I enjoy this next one as it represents the motif of cyclical universes! Sue me I’m a slut of adjectives and adverbs (context they're watching a documentary together)

Rin watches the slide of the screen's prismatic light over Osamu’s enraptured expression. Empyrean ivories, astral blues, elysian reds. Osamu, in celestial technicolor. Rin watches the world end and begin again on Osamu’s face. Infinity becomes briefly human.

30. biggest surprise while writing this year?

Probably how much I missed it! While I've been writing since I was a wee lass, I only wrote original works and primarily focused on scripts from high school onwards. In college, I hardly wrote for fun at all, since I just didn't have time.

BUT I started writing regularly again in September of 2021 after discovering fanfic and I remembered how much I loved writing in general, but especially narratively. I've re-fallen in love with words and the wonders they can do :)

♥️ Shifting is a decision: you just have to accept that 🎯

🚨WELCOME BACK BESTIES🚨

It’s your favorite shifting blogger, Evie, again and today I have a really really important lesson for you to learn when it comes to your shifting mindset.

Many many people are flooding my DMs (don’t be afraid to keep doing that btw) with something along the lines of „Evie I have tried everything I can when it comes to shifting but I have achieved NOTHING, what is there left to do so I can finally shift“

Well. Here are some „ground rules“ I need you to understand baby

🎯 shifting is manifestation. If you have ever manifested anything then you have actually shifted realities. Seriously.

🎯 it will forever only be as hard as you make it out to be. Law of assumption is the key word. If you are flooding your brain with the idea that shifting is the hardest thing on earth then guess what your reality will look like.

🎯 no method is THE method. Wether a method will work or not is not up the method but up to you and what your expectations are from it. Because expectations are assumptions and assumptions manifest.

I have manifested in quite weird ways sometimes. I literally took a piece of toilet paper and wrote my affirmation on it, flushed it, and guess what, got my manifestation. I wanted a guy to call me so I affirmed to myself „he is going to call me“ and went to sleep with the intention that me being asleep will bring me my manifestation. And I literally woke up to a missed call from him. I once manifested that every time I heard a specific song he would think of me, and guess who is obsessed with me by now.

The point is: each time I manifested something I would just decide that I manifested it, and live and embody the fact that it’s manifested (also known as persistence). I would write something on a piece of paper and be like „well since it’s written into existence, it’s manifested“ and literally not care about it anymore because I knew it’s manifested. I lived like the version of me who has her manifestations would live and I would always get my desires. Always. And whatever works for manifestation will also work for shifting because it’s the same fucking thing. I promise.

If you feel like the key aspect to you finally shifting is missing, then I want you to find your ideal way to manifest first and then apply it to shifting. And honestly I want you to get as creative as you can get. Even if that means to write something in a specific color with special paper or flushing things down the toilet or saying your affirmations exactly 3 times and go to sleep or „pretend“ your manifestation comes as soon as you finish your water bottle or kiss the framed picture of your celebrity crush 12 times. It doesn’t matter. What ever can convince you, what ever is going to mount you the assumption of your met desire into your brain, THATS the key aspect you are missing.

I believe in you! Go shift baby!

so many good things happened in Dear Diary at this time! Like Sal and Eve went on their FIRST DATE!

Eve attacked her mama!!

But more than that, a very important moment of Dear Diary was when Rosaria helped Eve give her home a makeover 😌 Evie's home went from a relic of the past to a place that better represents her. 💞

FEBUARY

Eve's first music video role debuted in the Dear Diary/Sink or Swim Universe 😌💞 This was amazing to create and it's even more amazing I haven't tried to redo something similar in recent time.

MARCH

They were in Tartosa! 🥰 Which I still feel is one of the most beautiful worlds in the Sims for picture taking.

APRIL

in April we learned about the seedy side of Tartosa. Which, if I'm gonna be real, was meant to foreshadow Sink or Swim and uhhhh more Tartosa stuff.

MAY

Dear Diary reached it's conclusion and we started up Sink or Swim! Ya'll met Pietro immediately and Rosaria lost her virginity. Now I'm gonna be quiet because I feel like I created so many good shots on my own that need no commentary lmao

After a somewhat lengthy hiatus for college (and a broken laptop), we entered the Maxis Mix era! By October to December I would honestly say I really popped off with visual storytelling. Like it was already good - I just found little ways to make it better.

using this ask to apologise in advance to everyone and anyone but i really felt like doing an ask game so here i am, on your dash.

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

typically, my sources of inspiration include: things i overhear on the train in the morning, internet memes and rogue things that happen to me that i swear would ONLY happen to me. but although i take inspiration from many sources, influence is a different question?

when i started writing fic again, i was deep in the 2021 rwrb obsession and i think my writing was heavily influenced by the work i was literally INHALING at that time.

i think first and foremost i took so much inspiration from @clottedcreamfudge. I mean we all know CCF has depth, but the slightly ridiculous edge to some of her fics felt so on brand for me, and i think reading a lot of the CCF archive taught me to lean into that. the witty dialogue, the pacing, the clever use of side characters to build the story - nailing that is my writing dream.

i feel very inspired when i read any @indomitable-love work because the amount of care and precision written into basically every line of siobhan's fic is incredible. reading ATG was a masterclass in how to take characterisation to another level, and how to build an emotional arc that is hard hitting and makes sense. i had so many 'oh, that really ticked all the emotional boxes for me' moments in that fic. it is truly a treasure.

as we know, i didn't write smut pre-2021. i truly didn't even READ smut. who knows why? anyway i was so convinced i could never write it, UNTIL i read the great works of our lord and saviour aka. you aka. Ms. Rae Rmd-writes Railmedaddy. The ficspiration of the neighbours fic took me out and made me realise like hey...there is actually a lot of skill to this and maybe i could? learn it? and i'm still on that learning journey but i think the think about your E rated scenes is that you weave so much emotion into them - there's a purpose to every smut scene, even if it's a PWP it's driving characterisation in some way. which makes it all very intentional. i find that very inspiring.

i also have to credit @everwitch-magiks for inspiring me every day to be more intentional with my word choice and edit better and WRITE LESS because the amount of stuff evie can pack into a 3k fic is honestly out of this world. but long before i became a ridiculous overwriter, i have been inspired by evie's characterisation (her alex always sounds so perfect to me, in particular) AND her creativity. there are canon fics and then she goes and writes a space AU and also a figure skating AU and magical realism and hashtag soulmates aka. the most beautifully meta thing ever, and a whole fic based around AITA? she has breadth and it makes me kind of mad.

ANYWAY. there are many more but i've already gone on for too long! thank you to everyone who creates stuff for me to read, i know i'm picking up things all the time, and it wouldn't happen if people weren't so damn talented 💜

TVGATE 📺💖

1.) Glee- Ryan Murphy is my enemy and glee is unhinged but it is hands down my FAVORITE show of all time. I started watching it when I was in 8th grade and the chokehold it has on me to this day is unreal. Season one was lighting in a bottle and to follow it up with an even better season after that? Lea Michelle is also my enemy BUT s1 Rachel berry is so fucking funny. Glee is the reason I joined chorus in high school- like the impact glee has on me? Incredible. Just 10/10. I could say more but we will be here all fucking day. And ofc Santana is my favorite character and I hope Naya is resting easy right now 💖

2.) Sucession- This show ate my ass for weeks and the brain rot after I finished it is still going strong. I avoided this show for a minute bc hearing about it through osmosis was enough and the fans put me off. I started about a month or two after the finale dropped. Like fuck rich people and fuck most of these characters but goddamn do I love it. I blew through this show so quick bc the acting??? The dialogue! THE EVERYTHING 🥵👏 you just know that if there’s a party or a dinner or some kind of rich people bullshit event that it will be the most compelling shit you’ve ever seen. Boar on the Floor was so sadistic and evil and FASCINATING. Like- I wanna open these people up and examine them. I was a Kendall girlie during my watch and a Shiv girlie post-show. I will say if you wanna enjoy this show just avoid.. most men’s opinions on it. I’ve heard the most shit takes on this show it’s ridiculous. It definitely lives up to the hype.

3.) Lovesick- Guys 🥺 if you’re gonna watch anything from this list watch this. I watched it when I was on a huge Netflix deep cut kick and WOW. Very lighthearted and funny romcom about a dude that finds out he has chlamydia and goes down the list of his old partners to tell them they need to get checked. All of these characters are so lovely and you just wanna root for them. It only loses points because it’s unfinished. I would’ve loved to see where things go for Dylan and Evie 🤧

4.) The Haunting of Bly Manor- INCREDIBLE. Mike Flannigan puts his whole pussy into into everything he makes. The write is incredible, the mystery is so well thought out. Every loose end is tied up just enough to let the viewer still have room to speculate. Definitely not scary in the way that Hill House is but everything else makes up for that. The cast??? I fucking love Rahul Kohli and I’ve loved that man since iZombie. Victoria Pedretti is the love of my life and the way she plays Dani? The range she has to go from Nell in Hill House to Dani is so sick. I just adore her. And of course T’Nia Miller as Hannah? She’s the clear standout. I need to see her in everything I’m BEGGING. The Hannah episode is truly the best episode of the entire season. This is a tragedy through and through and your heart will break for every single one of these characters. Just a gorgeous piece of television 💖

5.) Euphoria (Season One + Specials)- Again, Sam Levinson is my enemy but goddamn is season one SO GOOD. The aesthetics, the acting, the characters, the cinematography!? When Sam has a passion project and a story in mind he can truly make magic. Also putting Zendaya on your vision board and then actually landing her to be in it is so dope. The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Pee While Depressed aka S1Ep7 is my favorite episode by FAR. So real, so funny, so compelling. Everyone showed up to set that week to make MAGIC. I don’t make a ton of fanart but euphoria had my ass so hooked that all I wanted to do was draw Rue and I sure as hell did. I was looping All for us for MONTHS. It’s still the #1 song on my Spotify TO THIS DAY. The special episodes during Covid were also so well done. Season 2 is dog shit so it isn’t included in this but rip to Angus Cloud because he was so special and the clear highlight of season 2 as Fez. (I could watch him beat up Nate Jacobs all day 🥳)

A huge honorable mention for the shows A Young Doctor’s Notebook, Chewing Gum, & The Bear (s1) because holy shit 💖. The first 2 are both absurd comedies from my Netflix deep cut era.

AYDNC stars Daniel Radcliffe as this doctor that gets addicted to morphine in the backwoods of 20th century Russia. It’s a dark comedy and a wild ride. I only watched it once and I have no idea if it’s still on Netflix or not but if you have nothing to watch and you want something that’s pretty out there or you’re a fan of Daniel’s comedic acting you’re in for a TREAT.

Chewing Gum stars Michaela Coel as Tracey. So 👏 Fucking 👏 Funny. The writing is incredible and I can’t speak highly enough about the way Michaela drops you into the world for a wild ride. Tracey’s pretty much in the end of that awkward transition period between your teens and adulthood. Just a really hilarious coming of age story that DEFINITELY would’ve benefited from a true final season. If you like Michaela Coel you will like this. She also has a show called I May Destroy You and I can’t wait to sit down and watch it. I’ve heard all good things 💖

The Bear is way newer and s2 didn’t drop that long ago so I won’t go too in-depth about it like everything else but INCREDIBLE SHOW. If you like food and sad white men and just- EVERYTHING about Ayo Edebiri then you’ll love this. Season 2 isn’t my favorite but Season One?? This show makes me miss living in a city. I just 💖💖 I can’t recommend it enough. Jeremy Allen White’s arms are reason alone to watch. I’d let that man [redacted] my [redacted] for hours like he makes me UNWELL he’s so gorgeous.

That being said, I get a weird amount of joy from key smashes! I just find them incredibly endearing and it always makes me smile. I also really, really love it when people tell me particular lines or moments they enjoyed. It gives me something tangible to be proud of.

But the best compliment(s) I’ve ever received is a tie between two things.

1. The people who told me they thought I was good enough to publish. That’s MIND BLOWING to me and truly inspiring. I want to write professionally one day and have a lot of original work sitting on my computer. I just need to get up the nerve and those pieces of encouragement really help.

2. The most proud I’ve ever been of my writing was the times I’ve emotionally moved people through it. Mostly recently, I read a piece about the experience of watching a loved one slowly pass to a few friends and they openly cried. Not in a trauma porn sort of way, but in “this rings true to me” sort of way. So not only was the process of creating that story cathartic for me, but it was also healing for those who read it.

I don’t think I could ever ask for anything more than that :’)

What were your biggest inspirations for developing your OCs in 2023?

The regular ones, songs, romance stories, aesthetic stuff on tumblr.com, fairytales and myths, my top 3 comfort animes I rewatched all this year (aot, fruits basket, & sailor moon s1-2)

But since I've also been more intrigued by the idea of finally putting them into a full story and writing (especially evy, with Carmine. Eventually I'll get to it with Mia in "wallflower and the diamond in the rough".) I'll give credit to media analysis videos of certain female characters /ships within canon media that I love for how to write arcs/dynamics/ themes that'd intrigue me. In that sense it also helps for "storytelling through art" with my ideas nowadays being more scenario-based and involve direct interaction than static solo character art, like my reinelyn artworks.

(Y'know maybe Em really was onto something when suggesting me to make Carmine a comic, I get intrigued by the idea everytime it hits me again 😆💞)

Technically this one is solo Evelyn but like,,, it's a reaction from her point of view to Reiner's return (and condition) when his mission on the island ended so I add it.

Early traces can be found in my Demia stuff from the beginning 🤧🤧 I was mostly on IG then.

A fairly recent specific one was Em @whatthefucksatan showing me on discord a small bit she wrote for them and I might as well started chewing on my cat head pillow after that. Like drawing them is one thing and I could swoon over that too. But writing is something I wouldn't have expected 🥹🤧💖

i am not! although my nan did want this to be my name bc its an irish name (shes irish), she just didn't tell anyone bc she didn't want to interfer, so she was very happy! & my mum liked the meaning of my middle name & felt it was fitting, so here we are!!

if you're talking cried with laughter, about an hour or so ago. if you're talking crying crying, then...monday.

we had to play netball, tennis, hockey, rounders & do athletics (running, high jump, long jump) in high school & i hated them all bar athletics. im taller than average for a woman, so i was pretty good at athletics (until i fucked my knee). when i was in year 4 (8/9 years old) i won a running competition, & in high school up until year 10 (2nd to last school year) i was the 2nd fastest girl in my year (i just didn't do any of the competitons). ive also played football with my partner & some old friends we had, but i was never any good😂

All my favorite characters kiss each other in it! But forreal, I think my writing is pretty funny? And it has all the stuff I like most like yearning, and hope, and romance.
