Animal Kingdom ending spoilers

The ending could’ve been worse. I expected Pope to die and I expected J would live, so I guessed those two right. Sad about Pope. I expected Craig to die because, lets face it, he’s lived off borrowed time for at least two seasons now. Mostly sad for Deran’s sake. I HOPED J would die, but even if he didn’t, I’m certain he’ll never be happy. I understand his resentment, but it was truly misplaced and he should’ve realised FAR earlier that Smurf would’ve treated his uncles like she treated Julia, had they tried to stand up for her. Pope was mentally ill since an early age - J knew that. Craig and Deran were just kids when Julia was kicked out - J knew that too. The only people he logically should’ve blamed, were Smurf and Baz. On this way to revenge, J lost his best friend, any romantic relationships he tried and his uncles. And more important: he never truly gained anything but money.  And that’s the saddest thing. J could’ve gotten money and could’ve gotten away from his uncles to start over. None of them would’ve stopped him, which is the truly sad shit here. After killing Smurf and doing whatever jobs needed to get enough money, J could’ve left to start over, leaving his uncles to fuck up their own lives without help. THAT would’ve been revenge for Julia. Killing his innocent girlfriend very much wasn’t, no matter if Pope and Craig died too.  What we’re left with, is this sociopath J, who’s a lot more like his father (Baz) and grandma, than he realises. Yes, he’s gonna sit and sip drinks in the sun, looking cool and all, but to get there, he watched his mom die without trying to save her, killed his grandmother, killed one uncle himself and set another one up to die, leaving Deran as the one survivor. I cared less and less for J as the reasons went on, because in the end it was all about vengence for him and judging by the look on his face in the last scene, it didn’t taste all that sweet.
