I won’t lie to you, I like the idea of the Fire Nation royals being happy together at one point and genuinely loving one another especially Ozai and Ursa. Hear me out. Its solely because I like drama and “Ursa and Ozai were genuinely in love at one point and had some similar values before his ambition, extreme favoritism (abuse) ruined the family dynamics” is a lot more fun to play with than “Ursa and Zuko are saints who never liked Ozai and Azula and they were pure before Ozai woke up, slapped a puppy in the face and single handedly created the horror that is child abuse”. I feel like the second one is boring, doesn’t match up with what’s in canon, makes the characters feel 2D and most importantly makes it sooo boring.

Look at her. LOOK 👏🏾 AT 👏🏾 HER👏🏾. That’s the Ursa I want. The morally gray Ursa who doesn’t see imperialism as a bad thing and even normalizes it, who plays with Zuko and reassures him, who seems to more or less ignore Azula and who literally poisoned her father in law to save her son. And from the implications seemed to do at least most of the heavy lifting, that’s the Ursa I miss. I love a morally gray character who’s not annoying as shit (Dumbledore, Sirius Black, L from death note, etc) I want to see more of that Ursa in fanfics.

I’m gonna say it. I also want Ozai humanized. Again, hear me out. I know that he’s a child abuser and an imperialist and much more but he was not born one. Just like all of us he starts off a blank slate and is slowly learning and growing into the person he became which is why I want him humanized. Not justified, not excused, not even painted as being slightly right, just humanized and given an explanation for why he is the way he is and showing that he’s not just a mustache twirling villain by demonstrating that he most likely wasn’t always pro-“Scar my son without hesitation” and showing that a part of him most likely cared about his family even a little bit. That’s how you make a fic spicy, with grayness and humanization

Zutara Week Day 5: Respite

These were actually meant to be part of a larger piece for the day 1 theme "Home", but... art was refusing to art (I have so many sketches and half finished pieces I started for ZK Week, but things were just not working). So instead, we'll use there peaceful family moments in the South Pole for "respite"!

The fire nation love their royal family as they had ruled the nations with pride and strength, making the fire nation proud and strong over the many years. From fire lord azulon to his sons and his grandchildren, everyone in the royal family had the respect of the nation. There had been someone in the royal family that seem to burn by her own candle flame, the youngest grandchild of fire lord and youngest daughter or ozai and ursa. The princess that seem to be called by her people and other the kindhearted princess.

y/n " ......" you are walking down the hallway of the palace heading towards, someone chambers. You had walked passed some servants and guards who are carrying some stuff, and stop and bow when they see you. You had give them a smile as you kept on walking until you reached the chambers of your older brother zuko.

y/n " zuko I came to see you ... you are really leaving I can go speak with father and he ..."

zuko " no I wish for you not to be brought into my issues anymore"

y/n " Zuzu you are my brother I will do anything for our family"

zuko " it will be okay if I return with the avatar everything will be fine"

You had thought about everyone words, and you were going to stick to being yourself as that is something you love dearly no matter what everyone else had to say about it.

hi, fully optional atla meta question: hypothetically, how would the rest of the gaang react if they somehow found out how very damaged and mentally ill sokka is? (also please know that I am asking this because you have the very bestest sokka takes thank you)

im so sorry, but something about the phrasing of this ask is just really funny to me??? idk why but i can’t stop picturing them all in therapy a la that one sunny episode. “the gaang gets analyzed.” aang being like “i was frozen in an iceberg for an entire century.” “that’s not possible.” “well first of all through the avatar spirit all things are possible, so jot that down.” azula constantly spouting that she graduated top of her class at the royal fire academy for girls so there’s no way some two bit shrink will be able to get through to her. toph insisting that she is impenetrable vault while spitting peanut shells at her therapist with utmost hostility, five minutes later she’s sobbing about her mommy. zuko doesn’t even need five minutes, he starts sobbing about his mommy in under five seconds. katara willingly recounts the entire story of her life but it’s the most biased narrative you’ve ever heard. ty lee somehow gets her therapist to open up to her. mai just does a little comedy bit to amuse herself until their time is up, and then afterwards she’s like “hm…. maybe i should’ve actually brought up my pervading existential dissatisfaction and constant unending misery.” suki doesn’t realize what the purpose of a therapy session is and keeps treating it like a first date. sokka keeps insisting that he doesn’t need therapy because he’s too smart for it. his therapist is like “i am perfectly willing to acknowledge that you’re a genius but that’s also totally irrelevant to the project of cognitive behavioral therapy.” sokka basically just treats it like a game to be won and somehow manages to describe every single facet of his life truthfully while passing himself off as perfectly well-adjusted and happy. katara and zuko come out of their sessions like “wow i feel so refreshed, like so many of my emotional burdens have been lifted, and i can finally navigate my feelings in a healthier way. isn’t therapy great?” and sokka’s just like “maybe for you normies. while you’re working on developing healthier coping mechanisms or whatever, i’m playing psychological pai sho with a guy who thinks i’m so mentally stable i don’t even need therapy.” so basically he is a lost cause.
