Walker Episode Bracket

"False Flag Part Two" blew "Daddy Was A Bank Robber" out of the water in the last poll. Now it goes up against 3x17 "It Writes Itself".

In this episode, the Walker Horse Rescue officially opens for business and everyone is excited for it. There's even more excitement as Larry James announces his remarriage to Kelly and asks Cordell to officiate the ceremony. Cordell is happy to accept and also insists on throwing James a proper bachelor party and taking him out for a special camping trip. james accepts and he, Cordell, Liam, August, Trey, and special guest DJ James head out on the trail. However, Cordell unexpectedly packed some repressed trauma that comes out in flashes as he tries to have fun with his family and friends and write his wedding speech. Liam can tell something is up and advises him to walk through whatever is bothering him and not try to avoid it and tamp it down again. In an unexpected turn of events, Cordell takes that advice and has a little conversation with his past self, accepting what he's done and what happened to him. After he forgives himself, there's one more person he needs to talk to: Clay Cooper. He gives Cooper his flag back and tells him that, despite all the trauma and heartbreak, he appreciates the guidance Cooper gave him all those years ago. Now, he can look into the future with a lighter heart.

In the meantime, Kelly's own bachelorette paerty is a bust as none of her friends are able to make it into town. But Geri and Cassie are able to serve as substitutes well enoughand they maange to have fun in their own way.

Also, Sadie invites Stella out to a college party and introduces her to an old friend from Dallas named Witt. He seems nice enough but Stella is soon distracted by seeing her old friend Isabel. They catch up and Stella fully apologizes for letting their friendship fall apart. The next day, she goes to Bel for advice because, as much as she likes the horse rescue, she's not sure if that's really the final stop on her life journey.

At the end of the episode, we see Witt meet up with the alleged forest ranger that met up with the bachelor party during the camping trip. How they know each other and what they're planning, we don't know, but we know it has something to do with the Walkers and that they have their own plans for James' wedding day.

Okay but Kira's face at the end of Galvanize (3x15).

Instead of being killed by it like Barrow has planned it, Kira absorbs “one-point-twenty-one jigawatts of electricity” (as Stiles put it in Illuminated, 3x16). And the face she makes after that always got me.

Because she doesn't look confused by what just happened, unlike Scott who looks at eyes with wide eyes. Kira already knows she is different as we learn it later in Illuminated when she talks with Scott at school :

KIRA : Take a picture of me. And use the flash. SCOTT : Whoa... KIRA : Yeah. SCOTT : What is it ? KIRA : I don't know. It started showing up a couple months ago.

Kira has already noticed her aura and she knows about the flash thing. So she doesn't look confused, surprised to see what she can do, yes, but confused, no.

If anything she looks more scared. And that's fair. She knows there is something going on with her but she doesn't know anything about the supernatural, she doesn't know yet what she is (she uses the word kitsune for the first time in Silverfinger, 3x17), and she doesn't know what is happening to her.

Kira looks mostly resigned I think. Because now Scott knows she is different and not normal. And it's terrible for her because when she finally manages to be friend with him (her first friend !), he has to discover that she is a weirdo. Kira doesn't know yet about Scott being a werewolf (that's for Illuminated) and she really doesn't want Scott to think any different of her – and lose her first friend.

Which is also why she is so understanding when Scott shows her in Silverfinger his werewolfness. She is not scared because she is also different so if Scott is different it's okay too. She is not scared also because it's Scott, her friend, the guy who tried to save her from being electrocuted, who protected her from the Oni when they showed up at Derek's loft after the party, who doesn't seem weird out by her being different.

Is there any subject you hope they tackle (related to season 3 or not)?

Let’s start with topics related to season three…

I think what season three (from what I recall) does well is it diverges from the typical “this is the topic for today” kind of feel to the episodes (I feel like there were a couple of those instances these past two seasons) – and leans more into the nuanced lessons being taught. I think that’s why the show as a whole really strived, in my opinion, the next three seasons, is because of that crucial decision.

The show travels down the “here’s this story and interpret how you will our characters reactions to situations they are moving through…” route rather than the more traditional sitcom “here’s a weighty episode this week, kids and we will flash the message in neon lights for you” approach.

The show decided and decided well they did.

In reviewing the episode titles in particular, there’s three in a row that I’m interested to hear their take on…

3x16 Stormy Weather

3x17 The Pink Flamingo Kid

3x18 Life Lessons

All three I remember as more life situational lessons (as I’ve stated above) and not a specific fable or moral compass episode centering on a topic up for discussion. They were life circumstances that we, the audience, could relate to on some level back then, but also, can relate to still now looking back in perhaps a different way. Whether it was the feeling of being right as a kid so much so that you end up pushing too hard forward, leaving the good natured support of your parents behind, or feeling protective of your past, not ready to reveal your deepest fears to even the best of your friends until you come to terms with those fears yourself, or realizing that despite peer opinion, the ideals of the crowd don’t have to be your beliefs - you can stand in your own opinion and safeguard your morals in the process.

Gosh, what topic have they not addressed on the pod? This might be a non answer, but outside the general realm of episodic topics and the actual television storytelling within the show, the subject matters most important and valuable to them as humans and as people who have lived experiences in this world, that’s what I want to hear. The subjects that they want to discuss I will be more than happy, more than privileged, to hear as they speak openly and vulnerably to whatever they decide.
