at this point gouache is the tiktok medium to me. looks good when filming 30 second clips of coloring in an area with one stroke but once it's dry it's like why didn't I just use acrylics

Oh god that Himi gouache palette right!?? I hate the way tiktok (and the internet at large ngl) has turned art supplies into trends. Before that it was posca pens. None of these things are inherently bad mediums to work in but they get a (bad) reputation pretty quickly. My personal pet peeve are copic markers, which I think have been out of vogue since like 2017 which is admittedly around the time I stopped using them.

I personally still love gouache! My mom works in watercolor a lot & tried to teach me about a thousand times growing up and it never took & probably never will, so when she let me borrow her gouache set for the first time it was like… a choir of angels singing. I definitely need to have a more opaque medium with a heavier body, and for me gouache has a really appealing texture. The way I work is with a really heavy, colorful underpainting and then slowly build up more transparent layers of a natural skin tone on top. This works wonderfully with gouache and is also so fucking slow. I personally don’t like working small with acrylics so there are a lot of reasons for me to reach for gouache. Hate acrylic gouache tho. I think it’s important for artists to understand their tools and why they reach for them vs. other things! I use the Holbein brand with a set of synthetic Escoda brushes. My paper choices vary from project to project.

Also one of my professors suggested I try casein, a milk based paint that was popular before the invention of acrylics (because I do choose my materials w a lot of intention and acrylics are kind of neutral and uninspiring to me) so I might pick up a few tubes when I have the money and time to play!

💌Little Ashton was misunderstood a lot as a child. He never really liked the same things the other children liked, and he had this morbid curiosity with death and occult.

💌Of course, this undoubtedly scared his family, making him out to be some sort of psychopath.

💌This irked Ashton of course. He's just... That. He still loves his parents, and nothing would change that.

💌But the fact that they're so conservative that it's actually bringing Ashton down is what drove him over the edge to find a school far, far away from his family.

💌A small, quaint town, yet filled with teenagers. It was kind of a nightmare when Ashton found out, but he gritted his teeth and thought that maybe, with the current years, maybe they won't judge him. Maybe.

💌So, he indulged more in his Emo lifestyle. He religiously listened to green day, Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance...

💌He even got into writing poems as a way to put out his feelings that he never got to tell other people.

💌 He's actually very sensitive with emotions and feelings. So technically, he should be a great friend candidate, right?

💌But once he got into the school year, that's when he knew, that his life would be living hell. Stereotypes left and right. Mean cheerleaders and jocks that ostracized his choice of clothing, snobby rich students that turn their noses on him just because he's not that rich, geeks and nerds that keeps getting in his way, thinking he's one of them.

💌"Fuck. Get me out of here. Nobody understands me."

💌He didn't realize himself, but he's also slowly being a stereotype. Always alone, writing poems, and being unnecessarily nihilistic.

💌Until of course, one day, you transfered. You, your pink rover, and your slutty little outfit.

💌God, just looking at you and your charming personality made Ashton hard fall for you.

💌He wants you. So bad.

💌So he dabbled back into the occults. He found an old book in an abandoned "witch's hut" that he went on a mad hunt for weeks. Apparently, the witch that lived there was a matchmaker witch, who gave love potions to those really desperate.

💌At first, Ashton didn't believe it. Especially that it involves sampaguita, a flower not native to his town. How did the witch even get the flowers?

💌But there he was, mixing and creating the potion under the moonlight and putting your hair and his in the pot. Creating a love potion that smelled like the sampaguitas he had to smuggle in.

💌He wrote you letters everyday, obsessing and hyper fixating on your allure and beauty. Confessing over and over again on paper that looks old and aged with writing that looks like it came from a fountain pen. With a spritz of the love potion, he would put it in your locker.

💌God, who knew that it would work?

💌Day by day, he watched you read the letters. At first, you were disgusted (much to his dismay) but slowly, you started to read the letters with a neutral face, then a smile, then with a squeal and then a desperate plea for him to come and fuck you already.

💌Maybe putting his... Semen on your love potion got you desperate for him carnally, rather than romantically.

💌But no fretting, he would just make you fall for him.

💌And as you moan and scream out his name as he pounds into your tight hole like the feral, fuck machine he is,

💌He was pleading to the moon to see his bleeding heart and bare soul to make you his.

💌And if the moon won't allow it,

💌Well, it's nothing more love potions won't do.

💌"my beloved, why don't you drink this sweet tea I made? Why is it pink and smells floral? It's a new tea from Japan. Sakura, from what I know. It's glowing? Nonsense, love. It's probably just the lighting."

my jj carey cinematic universe kinda chronological idea posting its still super rough GO

elephant wrote in the Carey chapter of lesson plans that peppa and jj were pen pals :3 i think they have an age gap of like 9 years lmao -looks away- (((((chakotay and janeway have the same gap leave me alone lmao)))))) but theyd be like 5 and 14 i think? i figured thatd be how they communicate through their earlier life,,,

maybe peppa would accompany her mother during the Widow’s Walk lil short story about kathryn meeting Joe’s wife and their two sons to bestow the medal of honor or whatever and gives JJ his father’s model of voyager :)

i figure theyd remain distant for a while after that for a variety of reasons like hes grieving his father, probably enters the academy as a promising cadet, idk when hed drop out/leave tbh but it comes as a shock to everyone. anyway also peppa’s mom dies and they go space for several years. i figure theyre both busy being in school/living life to interact much. i thought like maaaaaybeeeee he and patrick (or just jj) would reach out to the triplets when their mother died but i dont think philippa especially would receive it well. shes bad with her feelings and her papa left or was in the process of leaving also lol WHOOPS

might be some time inbetween when they connect but its always brief and very platonic just friends catching up in vibe. put a pin in that one lolllll,,,,,, otherwise:

i was thiiiiinking theyd reconvene at a voyager 20 year reunion? (the 10 year i think lands when theyre out in space!) so shed be around 25 and hed be 34? 🤔 when theyre both adults by that point i think, reconnect out by a fountain. theyd get to talk about what all has happened in their lives, its a little bit of an escape for philippa from the party, shes surprised hes even here considering. very likely his mother and brother didnt come. maybe hed ask about her scar, OR NOT, maybe she brings it up hehe,,,,,, is vulnerable about how insecure she feels about her appearance and hed say something sweet back. :) maybe be a little cheeky about how he loves seeing her patterns more visibly in that revealing of a dress shes wearing!!! 🙈 in a polite way. shed maybe finally have the time to ask why he dropped out of starfleet, shed talk about her own career (idk if 25 is still academy age…) stuff like that!!! but i figure they pick up pen paling each other again after this!!!! bc shes on starships now and hes either home or visiting planets for work.

figure they hang out sometimes while she has time inbetween missions. hes a bit of a geek/nerd combo, she complains about her family a lot with him, she asks him about his projects, stuff she doesnt understand but he lights up about it in a way she maybe envies she wishes she had his passion about something. she visits his house in ireland a lot and has a foundation of fondness toward the country ingrained in her from her mother. ummmm maybe she has an apartment in san Francisco, but she stays over there sometimes to get away from her work. potentially hes the one she confides in about what shes seen and done. 🤷

next thing that happens thats kinda Altering the norm for them is that philippa’s captain betrays starfleet and shes ordered into extended medical leave after being forcefully augmented by her captain. i gotta mention like, philippa and captain sh'eraz have been working together for a bit, their last mission as a captain and XO was to retrieve this lost/dead warship aka the Vesuvius that was stolen by augments early on into starfleet's history and subsequently altered/enhanced. it's kinda a lost relic of a ship, but its augmentations have been a quiet looming threat that starfleet has wanted to obtain and CONTAIN.

but captain sh'eraz augments philippa before escaping capture. (shes either like, with some augments or romulans or something idk yet lol) ANYWAY philippa cant go to Jace during this time bc her augmented and in general thoughts are exceptionally difficult to be around as a telepath, her family isnt an option for her (stubborn?? theyre overwhelmjng to her and shes like, augmented and lashes out and keeps crying all the time, she doesnt want anyone to see her in this state tbh) i think shed end up going to JJ’s for a bit and he offers to take her off world to the planet he’s doing engineering work on. its swampy kinda similar to the planet she was born on. it takes her some time to come to terms with her circumstances, she may never get better, she may be stuck like this and never be allowed back into starfleet, and i think jj would help her with maybe seeing a bigger picture of helping people or something idk. her augmented brain for a while kinda has a knack for equations and blue printing and problem solving so they work on engineering jobs together that shed never have been able to have helped on prior to the augmentation. i figure she gradually learns to relax and let her body heal, eventuslly she starts regressing both mentally and physically back into her old state. like to think she picks up swimming as a hobby, something she never indulged all too frequently before, but shes getting more in touch with her amphibious tendencies while here. eventually they finish their work on the planet and go back, and philippa continues her recovery on earth.

for a time she’s still not 100% back to recovery but shes calmed down and she sees her family and can manage seeing jace now without being mentally A LOT for her betazoid friend. i figure around this time, kathryn is sticking her nose in the revival project for the Vesuvius (or maybe overseeing it?) which is the ancient starship philippa retrieved. thought that she might discreetly recruit JJ to work on the project, not disclosing anything to philippa though. reasoning behind why he gets involved being his experience working with older dated systems and starships, theyre trying to figure out how to deal with the augmentations built into the old ship.

EVENTUALLY, revival project finishes, peppa's probably tried to squeeze information out of her mother and friend for a while but it hasnt worked. Philippa returns to starfleet after her extended medical leave and gets promoted to captain and given the Vesuvius as a new experimental ship, the Legacy.

JJ is given a field commission for a bit, im thinking lieutenant? 🤔 aboard the Legacy to make sure the transition is seamless and nothing breaks, so him and philippa get some time to actually work together in starfleet. :) their overarching goal is to find and aprehend captain sh’eraz but as is the case with most starfleet things, they get caught up in side quests along the way lol. one thing of note for me during this time is like, the Legacy is full of surprises, things missed in its inspection and revival process. philippa had a weeeird intuitive knack for dealing with the augmented stuff on the ship, likely a phantom limb type vibe from her augmentation. she tries to play it down how instinctively she knows how things should work, likely confides in JJ that its something shes dealing with and playing down. as the chief engineer(?) he can kinda go with it, but theyre very “need to know” with each other about the augment stuff. i can imagine a lot of their adventures involve the Legacy doing something augmented and weird and unpredictable and them trying to figure out what its trying to do or tell them.

i dont know if hed still be around by the time philippa is confronting/pursuing her ex-captain, maybe they get the hang of the Legacy eventually and he goes home, new chief engineer comes on in his stead. i kinda want ummmm philippa alone and a little wet cat a and a little obsessed with her mission without much support surrounding her. :3c i also just think theyd pick up writing to each other again and shed miss having him around, so it gives room for THAT. but moidrah sh’eraz gets either captured or killed (idk whats more poignant yet lol) and i think its be traumatic and shes return home to earth and MAYBE see jj and be defeated and cry about it lalala its vague in my head rn.

lifes goes on, hes still doing civil engineer things, shes still captaining the Legacy,,,,, ummmmmm they maybe sleep together one time and MAYBE she gets pregnant…… im still so iffy on that one lmao go read this post for this mess of an idea involving how philipp maybe gets TWO kids 🙈

figurrreeeee not long after THAT ^^^^^ she passes on the Legacy to a new captain and is given command of a galaxy class ship (maybe the Elysium??????) which she never thought shed see herself captaining lmao. idk if those classes are still around for families,,,,,, but i figure shed do something way less dangerous and slower while shes ummmmm maybe pregnant and raising a weird moth alien baby. with jj maybe hahaha. theyre figuring it out THIS AREAS STILL ROUGH FOR ME GET BACK TO ME ON IT LOLOLOL. whether or not hes field commissioned again idk!!! maybe hes training engineers 🤷

As it turns out, besides becoming the daughter of the Frog Witch, Tarwin also has quite a few sisters

Emberly: An absolute hero geek who loves everything about heroes, and through the use of her own magic and various magical items, likes to pass herself off as a hero. Superhero, Sentai, Magical Girl... she loves them all and will constantly sport new outfits as she goes around helping people.

Valora: Though Valora looks really really young, this is due to her own magic having stunted her growth. As such, she retains the appearance of a legless tadpole. Though small and lacking in legs, Valora has mastered using her magic to be able to travel around in a multitude of ways, and is an expert at making portals and simply teleporting. She’s also pretty good at healing magic. Her stunted growth also lends to her being rather childish and can often be seen lounging watching cartoons and wanting to hang out with her sisters.

Carmen: A lover of all things fashion and design. Carmen enjoys dressing others up and tailoring things together. She often infuses clothing with magic, leading to some very intricate costumes capable of mimicking the exact thing they are based on. She has a special connection with fairies, and can often be seen carrying around a massive pair of magical scissors.

Ariwalia: Ari is a bibliophile, plain and simple. She loves books and everything associated with them. She possesses magical abilities that allow her to manipulate both books and writing. She can write words in the air and bring them to life. Through the use of magic, she has given herself a tail with a fountain pen tip on the end, and can fully use it.

Cordelia: Despite her thick, short appearance, she’s quite sporty and athletic. She has a high affinity for water-based magics. Though usually gentle, she possesses a quick temper and can easily get frustrated when things don’t go right.

Kitty: A horned frog who has a very curious, cat-like appearance to her design. Energetic and outgoing, Kitty can also be pretty lazy with a love of lounging around, as well as easily distracted by the latest shiny or interesting thing. She’s strangely very good at cooking. She enjoys hanging out with her sisters and is always attempting to figure out what they’re up to.

Summer and Winter: Both are a pair of poison dart frog-themed twins who at one point in the past was a single person. However, upon being transformed, they split into two beings. They both have a love of alchemy and potions, and are prone to getting into mischief together.

Summer tends to veer off into being snarky and sneaky. The more calm one of the two who will come up with a variety of strange ideas. She likes to collect dolls and plush, and can even manipulate and control them

Winter is energetic and friendly, easily prone to talking about nonsense and rambling on. She always seems to have her head in the clouds and has an intense love of astrology and space.

And i got to test out a 700 dollar fountain pen because the lady was awesome and i was kind of geeking out. And then I bought some ink (AFFORDABLE) 60 ml toffee brown ^_^ I had so much Fun

Easily amused. I've become a fountain pen nerd or geek, not sure which. This little Chinese Wancai Mini writes great, is, as the name implies, miniature. Screw the cap on to post and it's easy for me to write with.

For about $20.00 it's reasonable enough.

Eryn McConnell Interview

THE REVEAL:

Eryn (on Amazon as E McConnell) is a British poet who lives in South Germany with her family and the cat. She has been writing poetry since she was 16, but only recently decided to publish.

I am a plantster! I pants till around halfway, then I add the character bios, as I finally know them, the worldbuilding, and I write the ending and plan the second half. I can't do it till then as I don't know what will happen, usually.

My writing is fairly unique. I know we all say that. I'm neurodivergent, I have ADHD, 5 senses Aphantasia and I am Agender and Aro-Ace. So I don't write much description, I don't focus on the senses as much, but I do go heavy on dialogue, body language and expression, and I don't write romance. Not even really as a subplot. I write both female and male characters but I would say they are always ace of some description.

Hobbies outside of writing... I'm studying to be a Druid! I'm also a keen runner and rower, I cycle, I go hiking and I really want to learn an instrument again. I'm a massive indie perfume geek and I love inks and fountain pens and paper.

Of Swans and Stars is currently on Kindle Unlimited - so snag it now before it goes! My novels will go on there.

Current projects are Love Lost and Found, a collection of love poems attempting to answer a poem I wrote when I was 16 called the title, and it started, if Love could be defined then we would all be free..

I am also writing a dystopian novel called The Sunset Sovereign about a group of teenagers who are picked to be Supplicants to the Sovereigns, the dragons who look after their world. It is a great honor to be picked, but as they progress in their Trials, they start to wonder if the honor is worth the sacrifice.

In addition I am writing a novel called Kaida, The Guild of Words and Dreams, which is from Kaida's POV, who is a dragon. He is an astral traveler who wants to join the Guild where he can learn how to use portals into worlds, both real and created. He finds himself in a human world and a sky city called Zephis (where he is also human) but he is in great danger of forgetting who he really is.

Advice? Know that you are ready to write. It's alright to put it aside and get on with living for a while, as it will come back and nag you till you do it. If you are ready, go all in and write. It will work out.
