• There are 8 recognised subspecies of the Arctic fox! • Their fur colour changes depending on the season! Different seasons can mean different climatic conditions and opportunities for the Arctic fox. So its fur colour can change between seasons for thermal insulation as well as to help blend with its immediate surroundings. in the winter, their fur morphs into the iconic, thick white coating. But as summer arrives, snow melts, and Arctic foxes start to shed their long white coat to a shorter, thinner fur, which can come in a variety of colours, from dark and light grey, charcoal brown to bluish brown coating.

• They can also snow-dive to catch their prey!! An Arctic fox usually has different tricks up its sleeve when hunting. Lemmings are its favourite prey, but they live in a complex network of tunnel systems buried deep within the snow, protecting them from predators on the ground. So, Arctic foxes carefully listen for lemmings moving or burrowing underneath the snow to pinpoint their location by tilting their heads. Once the prey is located, an Arctic fox can jump several feet in the air and nose dive into the snow to catch its prey. Sometimes, it takes more than a few tries, but it’s the effort that counts.

The artic fox belongs to the Vulpes family which is a sub-clade of the Caninae. The members of this genus are colloquially referred to as true foxes, meaning they form a proper clade!

You’d been anticipating the lack of light, so it wasn’t much of a bother. The scent was damp, but nothing putrid. It was the weight that had caught you off guard. The bizarre heaviness that pressed down upon your shoulders with every step forward, as if attempting to drive you off-course.

Hours have passed since you last saw the wolves, yet they feel worlds away. Separated by the barrier of consciousness, left entirely to yourself. Confined to solitude. Spend your time counting cocoa coloured conkers, though they’re few and far between.

A large fox peers from between the trees, snow-soft paws prowling silently as he slowly stalks forward, tall as a horse. Sharp, beady eyes glint with cunning, razor-sharp canines pronounced from his upper lip, snout protruding elegantly from his features. Distinctly vulpine. Six wire-like whiskers stick from his nose, sleek and gracious.

Breath catches as a shadow emerges from the darkness, heavier than the rest. Begins to take shape, morphing into four, greatly powerful paws, midnight fur thick and silky. Leading up to create the tremendous torso of the beast, corded with muscle, fully grown and thrumming with lethal, sinister power. Leathery wings flare from its back, each peak tipped with a single talon, sharper than any blade you’ve seen. His head is smooth and elegant, distinctly feline, with piercing fangs pushing from his upper lip.

Kitsune!Anakin AU

-Shoves fist in mouth- I'm being so normal about this AU so have some more thoughts on this because free real estate:

When the fuck is this set. Or better yet, when does it start? I wanna say early war just so this transformation can be as inconvenient as possible for Anakin. WAIT NO, It happens while he's still a Padawan, right before he’s supposed to be put on guard duty for Padme. It almost has him taken off (Anakin nearly pitches a fit) but the truth is they don't have another Master/Padawan pair to put on it and Padme knows them so she's more likely to be accepting of it.

YES because this would change AotC in subtle ways (and give ME the opportunity to take a baseball bat to certain timeline events). It would also mean that the first time the clones meet Anakin, he's already foxed up and they just ... accept that shit at face value. They don’t know he didn’t used to have ears and tails. He grows his hair out in an attempt to hide his ears among the floof. It doesn’t work. Trying to curate this image of a badass General during the war is a little hampered by the ears he has no control over whatsoever.

I could have tied this to the Feral!Anakin AU but that's more to do with the amnesia and the fucky nature that is half of him being the Force itself. I can do more in that AU re: partial transformations/adaptability morphing. I am, however, going to mix in a lot of the stuff I had planned in the Intervention AU here because the fox characteristics would be a huge neon sign to his inner problems and how he is not working on any of them.

And we’re still going so under a read more it is.

It starts, as all good AUs do, with Force Temple interference. It feels Anakin walk in and goes, 'no, that human form is not becoming of you' and gives him an overhaul. Anakin is less than impressed because he now has to deal with two very fluffy tails that were not there before (he starts with two instead of one because bullshit power levels). Obi-Wan gives it his patented and classic consideration of ‘oh dear’ which only winds up his padawan further and poof full fox form. And it’s tiny.

The only reason Obi-Wan is not laughing out loud is because he has the control and patience of a fucking mountain. But he is literally just this on the inside:

This is what you deserve, Anakin. This is what you get for being a little shit. A trickster fox spirit suits you perfectly. Obi-Wan can pick up his Padawan like a handbag and Anakin is even less enthused about this. He doesn’t complain as much if he gets to snag a ride in the hood of Obi-Wan's cloak though.

To start with, the full fox form is smol, like a cat, but he gets bigger as he develops more tails. He can go back to being toy sized if he wants though through shapeshifter abilities. Ahsoka fucking LOVES being able to just cart her Master around it’s so funny, he can fit right between her montrals like a hat. He puts up with it because it makes her happy but he’s glaring at everyone over her head if they dare say a word. If Rex finds his fun-sized General taking a nap in his helmet, no he didn’t.

Christ how could I forget the screaming. The dramatic little bitch that he is just going off like a tea kettle at the slightest inconvenience. You want to annoy the enemy really fast? Fives wants to do a yell-off? Some asshole won’t shut up disrespecting the clones? Anakin just transforms, opens his jaws and screams. It’s just as unearthly as a regular fox screaming too.

More technical info:

Partial fox form keeps the tails (very fluffy, convenient cushions) but also ears, claws, and sharp teeth. His mouth gets unnaturally wide when he laughs, like he's shifting into a fox set of jaws.Theoretically, with shapeshifter abilities he should be able to make himself look fully human...should.

He keeps shifting between full fox and humanoid due to emotional instability.

His eyes stay blue, maybe almond pupils, or maybe the whole eye goes blue with intense emotion so you can't see the whites anymore. Fur colour is the same as his hair colour with dark point colouration. Maybe he gets that point markings on his arms and legs too.

Dark Timeline, Vader briefly hits seven tails but gets capped back at five because Obi-Wan cut off his last two that appeared during the fight on Mustafar. He has inverted colours, so dark fur and gold tipped tails (i'm just a whore aesthetically for black with gold highlights tbh). This AU won’t actually see the rise of Vader though because I dust my hands off with canon.

Hey, I was wondering if you could help - silver marble is my absolute favourite colour morph, but it's so difficult to find any good images of these foxes online amongst the blatant misinformation with regards to taxonomy, plush toys people are somehow mistaking for real animals, and morphs that have been incorrectly labelled. Do you happen to have any accurate pictures of living silver marbles that I could archive? Love and appreciate this blog and the work you do!

The Georgie Dress for CF

This may be a really miserable way to start a download post, but it means a lot to me so: this dress is named after one of my ducks who passed away three mornings ago. He and three of his siblings were taken by foxes and I’m absolutely heartbroken and miss them very dearly. If any of my future creations are named Lily, Bella or Winston, that’s why.

While the high houses had plenty of children, most of these merchants only focused on giving birth to one precautionary heir to their family and nothing more. It was far more likely to find families with more than one child in the upper crust of Piltover as they needed to fill the position of intelligencer, sword and shield. Ahri remembered the days when the position of the house, outside of the head, was only divided into two: The head and the chevalier. However, that tradition seemed to have fallen out of fashion. Ahri was wandering through the wide open streets, keeping to one side so that she was out of the way of the expensive cards, which carried their precious cargo from one important meeting to the next. Her black ears swivelled around as she harked for any possible stimuli. Any child left unattended. Hopefully with a brother or a sister or some other peer their age. Their bonds were always so intriguing and created strong flavours, which only children just couldn't match. Polite stifled, yet high-pitched laughter caught her attention. Ahri froze, tails curling upwards before she swiftly looped them together into one thick, bushy appendix. Her ears shifted around and she diverted her path. Wandering over towards a beautiful mansion with high walls and thick, towering, evergreen bushes, concealing vast grounds, Ahri peered through a hole in the fence and thicket. There was a small gathering of people on a blanket, upon which someone had placed a basket with warm crusted sandwiches, cupcakes, ripe peaches and small cups of tea. The quartet of people was led by an imposing, stern, yet charismatic-looking woman with sleek, black hair. Her robe of black satin, the white blouse and her satin gloves easily marked her out as the owner of the house. Next to her sat a little girl, maybe ten years of age, who had to be the matriarch's daughter. She shared the same dark hair colour, though hers had a hint of blue. She was dressed in a white blouse of her own, with puffy sleeves and a blue skirt. The girl was sitting there and made earnest attempts to make conversation, however, she seemed to be in the process of shrinking in on herself. The reason was what had caught Ahri's sense. Three children a few years older were half-heartedly engaging in the conversation. They seemed almost like they were on a timer of some sort. Not sure how to really communicate with the girl in front of them. The energy in the room was a bit bitter for Ahri's taste, however, she could tell this was worth investigating. Morphing into a sleek, snow-white fox with amber eyes, Ahri squeezed through the hole in the fence and hopped into the yard. Gliding underneath the twigs and branches, the fox kept her target in view and decided to make her move. Locating a few branches, Ahri wound them tightly around her paw and gave the bush a few shakes. She let out a heart-breaking whimper, drawing the tea party's attention.

　　T he girls passed around the sweet pastries, gossiping about the next line of outfits, or of their accomplishments before them. Caitlyn couldn't care less, it was always about the next fashion statement or the next ball. Did they even notice how silent she sat, not saying a word while the trio gossiped over these frivolous materialistic specialties. Her eyes cast downward, looking at the pads on her hands. Silence filled the area as she glanced back up and saw one of the girls staring at her hand. Almost immediately, Caitlyn grabbed one of her gloves and pulled it over her hand, trying to hide her claws and pads as if something to be ashamed of. The white covered it, but the imprint against the cloth could still be seen.

　　H owever, something caught Caitlyn's ear as she turned her head almost in the same movement as her mother while the other three girls didn't seem to notice at first. It wasn't until the little whimper caused them all to look over and Caitlyn frowned. Quickly she stood up while the other three girls didn't even care to make a move. ❝ You poor thing, ❞ Caitlyn whispered as she lowered down to her knees, dirtying the edge of her skirt as she lifted her hands. ❝ It's okay, I can help, ❞ Caitlyn smiled, as she reached over to pull off her glove. She flexed her fingers, and sharpened claws for nails as she carefully reached down toward Ahri.

　　❝ Easy there, easy, ❞ Caitlyn spoke and then cut at the branches and brush that had tangled around the little fox's paw. ❝ There, all better. You must be so scared, getting tangled up, ❞ Caitlyn turned her head, hearing the girls gossiping and chatting up a storm again despite her being nowhere near them. A growl lingered in her throat, clearly knowing the truth. Those girls weren't here for her, they only cared about what was in it for them. ❝ You are a far better company than them, ❞ 　Caitlyn whispered as she looked back to the fox.

　　❝ Can I... pick you up? ❞ Caitlyn questioned opening her hands but not reaching to grab the fox. If the fox decided to run, she would accept it. It was a naturally wild animal after all, but she tried to show she meant no harm, that she was a safe space to be around.

This is the introductory letter to Cunning Moss Words Blog which can be read below or on the substack site here. This piece is focused on the random bursts of night writing and abandoning words that don't leave your thoughts through the passing days, it is the origin and note on the birth of Cunning Moss Words space.

The author sleeps at 3 am settings

Abandoning story pages in different stages

Eyelids finally drifting, sitting, closing

While the horns of night trucks

Bleep and bleak in the navy dark

With cooing foxes who shout alarm

In their soul call for the spring heart

The author lets out a held breath

And curls into the layered blankets

That hold back the light cold breeze

In coloured stripes and curved petals

And the words she wrote are left unaccompanied

On both low-lit screens that slowly sleep

And ageing wilted pages that stain and crease

They seem to be growing in her absence

For the words have started spinning and splitting

Morphing outside the lines and forming new vines

They are reforming a story for our sleeping beauty

Thinking up cunning things as the foxes continue screaming

All to return to their original shape with a hint of something

That it would be hard to notice that it has shifted slightly

When this author decides to wake, up in a dazed state

She will find the words all seem messily the same

But there is an air of difference in what has been written

Like a map to add and subtract from the numerous verses

Clues typed and underlined in sequences of short quick motions

But never fully completed, for the words are always growing

And the author is always writing and rewriting with it…

My phone lay blinking with a long unfinished sentence (and many spelling mistakes with it) on a dimming doc, with words that most likely would not make much sense in the coming morning. As the screen dies, the only source of light can be found by the tiny nightlight, omitting an amber glow each dipping day for my late sleeping. The words behind the blacked-out screen didn’t do much for my thoughts and dreaming while the nightingales started their singing. 

My head was scrambled, watching lines of words cut and grow across the ceiling until all I could see was nothing. The words were there in the morning, they were there in the middle day, there in the afternoon and the evening, and the night the same. Sometimes they were added too, crossed out in fleeting minutes, but the words kept waiting while the day was passing. 

Each night it repeated in the same cycle, sleeping, eyes dropping, then a sudden urge to be writing- pulling thoughts and all the overwhelming emotions out onto any writable surface that could be found. Dotted on spare note sets and tapped into keyboards speedily, I felt I could not sleep until it was written, even if the sentences were all unfinished broken curses. 

I imagine they’d grow and move across the pages, like my dipping vision- blur and merge- different emotions scattered and drawn back together with it. I wanted- I needed words to last longer than my sleep, the ones that grow and wait for me to find the final letters and full stops to end their sentences, no matter how they’d be rewritten and in return, torn to pieces. 

All typing blazing whilst foxes slinked by my window, watching me watching them- stopping my typing for a moment- as if our poses were frozen in similar thoughts broken- before the world moved on again, words were written, foxes continued night lurking and sleep was welcomed. 

Cunning Moss Words were sprung and found in a burst of emotions, growing lost and forgotten in broken verses, whether they collide and find rhythm in underground platforms, sunbeam chances, supermarket aisles, shelter in downfall walks, messy endings and most of the day’s last-second consciousness- when dream dust starts its working. Like gifted titles for those ghosts, whose words would always outlive their living, Cunning Moss Words is a space for disconnection and reconnection- with words abandoned, ageing, until somebody reads them and resumes to leave them.

There’s a discussion in one of the fox FB groups about only feeding v*gan food to wild foxes instead of meat. And people are actually agreeing with it. Hello???

Nostalgia time as I think about all the games I used to play. Transformice. These are all from my main account except the last two are two alt accounts. They are both specific characters while my main is just me playing around with looks.

My main was Raitasuki as it was my username everywhere at the time. The second last is Beastle, who's a vampire. The last one is Matthewcan who just. Kind of is there. Didn't really have anyhting going on for him. I even made him in WoW when I first got into it but again there was like no characterization for him. I just liked the made up name based on a real name?
