no, i'm not going to debate you

i'm not going to debate you on the obvious societal horrors of combining genetic engineering with digital information technologies

for one; i know you, because i used to be you, used to be that wide eyed twentysomething naively optimistic transhumanist technoliberationist bodyhacking fuckyeahscience enthusiast, and i know that nothing i can say will sway you a millimeter, because to be that you are already actively ignoring every overt counterexample that exists in the current global political horrorshow in favour of your hypothetical science utopia biohacking ideals

and two; every breakthrough in medical science and especially genetic engineering comes in the shadow of progressive developed world governments proudly declaring their eugenics successes at eradicating undesirable people from the population, a shadow that looms so dark over this whole topic that, well, using "scientists are probably giggling mad with glee at this breakthrough" doesn't suggest you disagree with that stance, if you're even aware of it

because ngl i don't really wanna argue against "we're safe from crispr abuses because it's hard to do, and nobody would ever integrate a thing into a network it doesn't need to be" with someone that has vibes of looking a human with downs in the eye and telling them the world would be better if they didn't exist

we don't live in a world of anything near equals; flesh and blood humans barely exist in the same class as systems, corporations, and governments when it comes to exerting power and forcing control... and i have literally lost skin and bone in the game of "medicine violating autonomy and experimenting on undesirables in the name of fixing them", the violent power imbalence between medical science and the freedom of disabled people is something i don't think anyone can comprehend until they experience it firsthand, and you're not even remotely curious about it, not even aware enough to consider its existence!

so no. i'm not going to debate you

especially when you don't even think to question how all these issues are obviously interlinked, that this is 'a debate' about an irreversible tipping point in the ability of the individual to even exist in the modern world

but you can consider it a kindness that i'm only vagueblogging about you, and not linking to you directly and dragging every self-incriminating thing you said point by point

today i stayed up way too late because my brother ended up talking with me about old video games we used to play together like right when i was going to bed. it was nice tho! he just got a MiSTer and those seem really cool. it can like transmorphers itself into being a neo geo or a sega genesis or whatever on a hardware level.....?? #fuckyeahscience #fyeahscience

another reason i stayed up way too late is because i got stoned and almost cried about seeing some dead/dying fireflies outside by teh building... and also i totally communicated Something to some Alive fireflies further in the distance by using my lighter. like i got responses and stuff. so really i had two nice conversations if you think about it.

Wish I had something to give it a sense of scale, but this is (or was, more accurately) a Ground Sloth. It stood six feet tall and weighed 1500 lbs. Similar to modern sloths only much much bigger.
