Watching Jin in The Last Immortal made me think of Xiao Yao and Cang Xuan in Lost You Forever. More specifically how they are all adult survivors of childhood abandonment for a cause and how it affects them permanently.
Xianxia is such a high fantasy setting and usually deals with such larger than life situations (either world-saving or romantic.) Characters always die for the world or get doomed for love or whatever. And itā€™s great fun to watch. A xianxia done right is a rare pleasure.
But I love that two very different dramas this year actually take a different tack of sorts - they go, itā€™s great you saved the world/died for love/averted calamity etc etc but what happens to those left behind especially when said person is a child?
If you think about it, Xiao Yao, Cang Xuan and Jin are all characters who were abandoned by all those who were supposed to love them as children and it wasnā€™t because their parents/caretakers were bad people. Itā€™s because none of the adults in their lives ever put the children first - they put saving the country (XYā€™s mom), saving the world (Jinā€™s dad), or true love (CXā€™s mom and Jinā€™s mom) over the children and the dramas go - well thatā€™s great but it fucks the kids up.
If you are devoted to a cause, whether itā€™s an idea or a person, it makes you a failure to those not encompassed by that cause.
It doesnā€™t even have to be a cause that doesnā€™t take the kid into consideration. Xiao Yaoā€™s father abandoned her out of a desire to protect her. But the fact remains is, she was abandoned and as she puts it in one of the dialogues - all the adults in her life, all the ones who loved her, had reasons for abandoning her but it was still abandonment.
I mean, if you look at Xiao Yao, as a result of her abandonment, she really cannot be in a healthy relationship - she can allow Cang Xuan in because heā€™s family and she cared for him before her world imploded but even with him I think she doesnā€™t expect him to be around forever. And as to a romantic relationship - she doesnā€™t even want a codependent one, because codependency implies a degree of reciprocity. What she wants is someone to depend on her while she is not as involved. As she puts it, she wants a man who would put her first and only, over any cause, or any family or anything. If you think about it, she falls for a man who has been disassembled by torture to a completely basic level and rebuilds his desires and his entire identity around her and he ultimately still fails her test by the end of LYF1.
And there is Cang Xuan. Whose father was killed in battle which is traumatic but then whose mother kills herself over his fatherā€™s grave, leaving her small child an orphan in a den of wolves with only ā€œwhen you are an adult, you will understand.ā€ No surprise - no he does not, and grows as fucked up as XY or more. If XY is willing to open to love even if in a dysfunctional format (and eventually she heals enough that she actually does get a happy ending in terms of love though she loses a lot on the way; the ending is a mixed one in terms of sweetness), CX is not at all - he believes heā€™s unworthy of love and incapable of receiving it properly. The fact that the sole woman he loves is XY, his cousin, also the one person around him who he knew before his life went to hell, and even with her he doesnā€™t really try to pursue her for a long long time even as she falls in love with someone else or gets engaged to yet another man - is proof of his damage. By trying to live her grand doomed romance and screw anyone else even her own son, his mother ensured her son will never have a proper love of his own.
And how with The Last Immortal we see the same effects with Jin. TLI is a kinder narrative and the ending of the drama is supposed to be happy for him (unlike the novel apparently) and Jin himself is not as closed off as the cousins in LYF, but he is so very clearly damaged by abandonment - his refusal to seek responsibility or come into his power, his deliberate goal of making his life as meaningless as possible are all the results of his dad liking the world more than his family and his mom liking his dad more than anyone and anything else.
All three of these characters are adults and capable ones at that but the damage lingers and lingers. And I find it so fascinating in a high fantasy setting.
These are narratives of those left behind on a grand heroic quest and that is something you rarely see done.

For the ask game! Raph and with either Starved or Punishment
Oooo this is gonna be fun.
content warning: disordered eating
---
Raphael 'Ragnarok' Hamato learns many things when he gets tossed back in time, and one of them is that he'd apparently underestimated just how scarce food had gotten during the decade or so that he'd been living in a world dominated by the Krang.
Sure, he'd known there were limits to what he could have--snapping turtles have a nasty habit of growing throughout their lives, after all, and feeding someone who's just going to keep getting bigger and bigger puts a strain on anyone's resources. He's gotten used to a reduced food intake over the years, everyone has.
But he just doesn't quite realize how reduced it really was until being thrown into the past, bruised and battered and more exhausted than he'd ever been before, and somehow ending up in the care of none other than Baron Draxum.
And it's not like he minds the Baron attempting to nurse him back to health--he needs to recuperate somewhere, anyway, and watching Draxum trying to hide his research when Raph already knows full well what's going on is kinda funny--but it involves way more food than it should. Three meals a day, plus snacks in between? It's ridiculous.
At least, that's what he thinks at first.
The weeks pass as he waits for a sign from his brothers, his injuries healing. There's more than he'd thought at first; at least there's more things Draxum considers to be 'injuries' than Raph does. A few cracks in his shell, some thin places where the scutes never fully grew back after taking damage, scars and old wounds galore, not to mention all the actual damage. So what if those are all healing slowly? Not like Raph has anything else to do right now but heal, rest, and pretend to eat all the food he's given.
And it's not like it's even that hard to hide what he doesn't eat. Some of it he squirrels away here and there, just in case. Some of it he pawns off to the gargoyles: all it takes is telling them he doesn't like the texture or the taste, though if he isn't careful with how much he gives them they'll bring him more. Most of it he sneaks back into the kitchen, hiding it away in the back of the fridge or taking the time to stash it in a container.
A few times he's had to take a protein shake (or the weird yokai equivalent of it, anyway) to the bathroom, and pour it down the toilet, cringing internally at the waste of food, but it's fine, really, it's not like he would have eaten it. Some days he hides or stashes or replaces more than he eats, but it's not like he wasn't managing just fine before. He's not even that hungry nowadays.
And maybe it's just all the time he has now, but he seems more tired than he ever was before. Colder, too. Draxum must not have heat in his house or something, that seems like something a mammal who lives with two employees made of rock would forget about.
Not like it matters too much right now, when he's getting himself a glass of water in the middle of the night. Also putting his bowl of rice from earlier back in the fridge. Why did the gargoyles bring him that, anyway? He'd already had his three meals for the day, he doesn't need extra food.
It's just after he puts the bowl away (well, puts the rice away in a different container, he's not leaving an entire untouched bowl in the fridge to be found later) that the kitchen lights flick on. Raph blinks a few times at the sudden brightness as he automatically shifts into a wider stance and lets ninpo bubble up his arms--oh, it's just Draxum. He looks pissed, is he not sleeping well again? Couldn't be Raph, he knows for a fact he's been too quiet to wake someone up.
Draxum glares at him with a ferocity he hasn't witnessed since coming to the past, and even before that hasn't been directed at Raph in years. "I don't understand why you keep doing this."
Raph sets his empty bowl in the sink, gently so it doesn't crack. "...doing what?"
"Don't play innocent, you're getting rid of your food again." Draxum jabs an accusatory finger in his direction. "You've been doing this for weeks and it cannot continue."
"Noooot really sure what you're talking about here." Raph reaches for the cabinet where the glasses are kept. Maybe Draxum's just in one of his moods again. He's a lot crankier in the past, that's for sure.
"You nearly passed out earlier today!" Draxum yells, and okay, Raph does not care for that at midnight.
"Pretty sure that was just exhaustion catching up with me. 'Sides, I don't need that much food anyway." He sets the cup under the faucet and turns the water on.
Draxum's mouth falls open. "You don't--you need more food than what I've been given you for the last few weeks, any simple calculation of your caloric needs could show you that. That's what the food between meals is supposed to be for! Not hiding away! And you'll only need more as your recovery continues and your metabolism jumpstarts again--" he pauses as Raph tilts his head.
"You sure?" It's a genuine question, but it makes Draxum ball his hands into fists so tight they tremble.
"Ragnarok--do you realize the condition you were in when I found you? The injuries that wouldn't heal, the lack of appetite, the constant cold you complain about--those are signs of starvation. You were on the edge of mass organ failure when I found you, and with your continual avoidance of food--" Draxum presses a fist against his temple. "And you're telling me you didn't even know?!"
The water is still running, overflowing the side of the cup. Raph slowly reaches out his hand and turns it off. He blinks, first with his outer eyelids, then the inner membrane.
"No, I didn't."
There are a lot of things that he'd learned before coming to the past, but the signs of starvation weren't among them. That would explain a lot more that he's actually comfortable with it explaining.
---
I don't want this to get too much longer so I won't write the resolution, but I couldn't not tie this into my I'm Not Dead Yet AU.

Few things:
1) First off what a great fucking scene, for both Amaya and Rayla. It was lovely to get a deeper dive into Amaya's interiority, especially with the loss of her sister and her own trauma (something we haven't touched directly on since 1x05 way back when). And, of course, the fact that Amaya makes the connection to Rayla that she's traumatized / made her decisions likewise out of grief directly, and that it's an effective way to survive, but not to live.
2) "Stoic, strong, and lonely." "That does sound like me sometimes." Hearing Rayla admit that she's suffering, that she's lonely (which we've known & have always known) even with Stella, and only after two entire years on her own... She had to go through so much to get even close to this. You can see the weight it takes, that she can only admit so much, but that she's listening and taking it in because Amaya is also being open and vulnerable, and is an older woman Rayla can respect and learn from. For Rayla, "love" and "trust" were often two different things (all four of her parents loved her, but didn't always trust her; and Rayla never wants to burden people with her problems, either, although we luckily start to see that shift) but Amaya points out that that is "not enough," not that Rayla isn't. Talk about a breakthrough (even if again, I think there's still a long way to go on the sacrifice front).
3) Romantic and family love being interwoven and seen as mirrors, rather than entirely separate things. It would've been so easy to turn this into a "romance only" scenario, but TDP has always been a celebration of different forms of love, so I love that it's all anchored together here - familial, platonic, romantic, etc. Strong healthy bonds all have the same foundations and cornerstones, even if they manifest differently, after all.
4) Is congruent with the "humans teach the elves/dragons that it is better to be united than divided / better to break the cycle than perpetuate" arc the show tends to have across the board. Obviously it doesn't mean that humans ever can't be isolationist (they can and are - hi Viren!) but that it's not nearly to the degree that elves are
5) On that matter, the Amaya-Rayla-Viren "fiercely independent due to trauma, willing to put the world and greater good ultimately above their loved ones" parallels continue, thank you (re: Amaya choosing to safe guard at the Breach rather than just go after her nephews to save them, her prior opinions about elves being similar to Viren's, etc etc).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6) In regards to the montage, it makes me tear up now whenever I watch it, and I love the balance of clips chosen. Both the fun adventurous times, but also highlighting the moments that Callum and Rayla were there for each other in some of their lowest/darkest times - leading Rayla to finally fully recognize that Callum will quite literally always be there for her (as he's said) if she'll give him the chance to be.

what's your opinion on the big 3? When I was hyperfoxed on this series they were the thing I care Abt the most (I enjoyed season 4, obv I'd change some stuff now but I still remember it being atleast ok)
I hate how dirty they did my girl nejire, as far as I'm aware they didn't even do anything with her after the whole pagent thing she just got a small backstory about how she was sad (don't know all of it I haven't been keeping up that well w the manga)
mirios not having a quirky and having to save eri (a girl who I can't imagine would be that skilled at the age she is and has been training on lizards to give his quirk back all together, I'd imagine it taking a few more months but bnhas time is shit so) and coming back in the war arc to punch one person and then basically do noting iicr
The only decently written one was amajiki, I wish they had more going on I think they have a fun dynamic (w them helping taking care of eri and me rlly liking idk what it's called but I love the fluff it brings) :(
Lots of mixed feelings, in all honesty. Lots of mixed feelings.
I'll admit, a big part of my mixed feelings about them is they showed up as the latest, 'Stomp on Izuku's everything' at the point in the story where it was becoming obvious that there was always something stomping on Izuku, and that gave me a bad first impression on them I've never been able to shake... which isn't helped by how they're connected to the clusterfuck of Nighteye, of all people, which is kind of my whole thing with Mirio (warning; I am biased):
As a person, he's obviously nice, but as a character, basiclly his entire reason for existing was, 'give Izuku an existential crisis' and I don't think I've ever forgiven him for that, really. His entire character is just bigger, stronger, older, happier, more capable, more confident, more successful, more loved Izuku, who had a Quirk his whole life and only had to dig deep to find out how strong it, and he, was all along.
Unironically. It's....
It's a really bad look, to be blunt; he feels kind of like a bad fanfiction character written by a bad writer who wanted to put their super special OC in the story, except he's canon.
Since we've never seen him even think something unheroic, there's really nothing that distinguishes him from that impression factual statement, which, again, makes it hard for me to give a shit about him, or even remember him... which is a problem Hori seems to share, lol. It doesn't help that I loathe Sir Nighteye and that most of his development time is spent admiring him, to boot, and that his parts of the story are either empty or focused on a living plot device I can't quite like no matter how hard I try because of how blatant the emotional manipulation is about the biggest story breaking, SOD shattering plot device until Stars and Stripes showed up.
If he ever got any kind of development to flesh him out a human being rather than being either Izuku and/or a heroic archetype, it'd help, but beyond all of that his biggest personality trait is liking jokes, and that barely even comes up. Or, rather, considering both the Final Arc and his response to Bakugou's name, along with Nighteye's own tendencies, 'jokes', maybe.
He doesn't deserve it, I admit it, it's not his fault, but I just can't get past that. He also doesn't deserve to just be forgotten until his big moment of a butt joke, but... MHA, everyone. In all honesty, I'd just like him better if his entire story arc didn't exist in and as some of the worst parts of the Overhaul arc, but he's tainted by that fact.
I freely admit that I am unfairly biased against him, so take all of that with a mountain of salt.
As a side note though, god, the story doesn't seem to realize how badly Nighteye is using the poor kid; Mirio thinks Nighteye is training him because he's worthy, while Nighteye mainly seems to be doing it because he's the closest thing to an All Might clone he can get, bar him actually cloning All Might, even if he grew to like him for who he is. I'm not sure Nighteye ever thought of Mirio with just his Quirk as anything more than a temporary situation; even at the start of canon, when on his own merits he's rising to fame with how successful he is, Nighteye's overall focus is still about getting AFO into the kid.
I almost wish I could see Nighteye explaining how all of his training came down to getting All Might's Quirk, just to see MIrio react and tear Nighteye down a peg about it, except Hori's history of handling these kinds of things means he'd never be allowed to be properly offended on his own behalf, the poor bastard.
Moving on, Tamaki. Out of all of them, he's had the biggest of an on-screen story arc, and in a intellectual way his Quirk is easily the most interesting. Unfortunately, while he has a personality, it feels so bland at times that he's far easier to remember for his Quirk than who he is.
I liked his story, really, but at the time it was overshadowed by Mirio and his everything, and by the time he showed back up it was clear how irrelevant it and he was, so it was more about how (admittedly, very) cool he get his Quirk to be than it was about him, and with some brutal honesty, it's probably because his Quirk is so interesting that he even got that much focus beyond that initial arc by Hori.
And... Nejirie.
In a combat sense she's easily the best of them, really; Mirio is almost purely defensive, which limits him (especially if he's not surprising someone with it) while Tamaki's Quirk, while flexible, is so conditional in ways that can easily hold him back (we only ever see him fight with full preparation; if he's not gearing for a fight he'd be easy to ambush), and like a lot of things in the Final Arc, his big laser canon thing is.... questionable.
Nejirie, though, is just simply powerful. In a setting where everyone has one power and one main application of that power, where you either fly or blast things, but not both, she's the closest I've seen to a 'traditional' super hero, like you'd see in Marvel or DC.
At the same time, though, out of the three of them she least has a story, for obvious reasons, and it's a disgrace, really. If Hori had just spent some time on her, on the her backstory that apparently exists (yeah, I'm not sure where that is either), she could have been so interesting... but really, all she is is the Girl Teammate. Her personality traits are The Girl Teammate's personality traits. She's just The Girl Teammate stamped over all of the interesting stuff, and it's such a waste, it really is.
And finally, as a unit? The Big Three is a shiny toy that Hori forgot in the corner somewhere as soon as he got bored with it. He spent a few minutes oohing and aahing over them, focusing really hard on developing interesting powers, how they could be used, and how strong they were, only to start to lose interest as soon as those powers were established, and he was writing the three of them off before their introductory arc was even over.

man i was reading the lyrics to moonlight and i think i'm going to fall down a flight of stairs
That spotlight is shining on me
Your back turned, you are once more getting further from my reach
I could never become anything like you
As if trying to chase after the moon
POINTS at toya's damn gray jacket. der Mond - the moon. i physically cannot shut up about akito and toya's sun and moon motifs because colorful palette won't shut up about them either. this bit so perfectly reflects the way akito views their relationship, which is a view born from the way he perceives himself.
akito's self-image is interesting because it's not as simple as "oh he's self-conscious." because like. he's not. unlike his sister, he didn't violently reject his father's mantras about Nautral Talent and Not Being Good Enough and You Will Be Left Behind, You Will Suffer, I'm Protecting You. ena opposes the "lessons" their father tried to teach and is left desperately seeking validation; justification that she's right, he's wrong, she's good enough, she has the natural talent, she's fine. akito, however, just internalized this shit. and he internalized it in a really interesting way.
he has completely accepted the (subjective) fact that he doesn't have the ~Natural Talent~ that arata, an, kohane, and toya (just to name a few) do. this is not a thing for him to agonize over. he doesn't have time to agonize over it; he has to work fifteen times as hard to keep up. he quit soccer because he realized that he would never be able to catch up with the kids who took the sport seriously and dreamed of being professionals one day. they were all already so far ahead of him, having shaped their entire lives around soccer. he realized then that if he wants to do anything, he has to put his very SOUL into it from the first step or he'll never, ever make anything of himself. everyone will leave him behind. he can't do anything for fun; he's not good enough. just like dear old dad said.
it does his character a major injustice to simplify this mindset into just being "insecure." because he's not. he is very, incredibly, unhealthily secure. in his eyes, this is just the undeniable truth of the world. he's not good enough, he's not a good person, he lacks the innate talents so many others are born with - so he'll just have to work harder and harder and harder than anyone else. but he doesn't just give up on everything forever, which is typically the behavior this kind of mindset lends itself to. he sees this as a challenge. he runs on sheer determination and spite. he doesn't inherently have a place in this world (a place at toya's side COUGHS) but by god is he going to forcefully carve one out for himself, even if it means he never gets a day of rest in his life.
he had that breakdown in stray BAD DOG not because arata made him feel insecure, but because arata forced him to confront something he was trying not to confront (which was odd for him, because he's incredibly emotionally intelligent for his age and he doesn't let shit stew like that; he doesn't let others stew in their bullshit either, as we see with him and an in singing in sync. he's very much about immediate recognition and resolving the heart of the issue. i suspect he procrastinated here because he just felt so happy with the formation of vivid BAD SQUAD, and he really didn't want to acknowledge the existence of this ugly thing growing deep inside him and ruin that happiness): the fear that he's lagging behind his bandmates - toya especially. that he had grown complacent and forgot that his growth as a musician is minute compared to what everyone else's. which leads me back to the aforementioned lyrics -
i don't believe akito is jealous of toya in any way. that would require insecurity, and once again, akito isn't insecure. he is firm and unwavering. he is vivid BAD SQUAD's "rock" for a reason. but there is one thing that causes him a whole lot of pain, and that is the fact that he feels he will always be chasing after toya, fingertips just barely brushing against the success that comes so naturally and so beautifully to his partner. the sun and the moon are inextricably connected, but they do an odd sort of dance, don't they? they cannot exist in the same sky (shut up work with me on a figurative poetic sense here <3). do you ever wonder how the sun must feel? it sinks beneath the horizon, hoping to finally grasp that wonderful silver light, even if for just a second, only for the moon to spin out of reach and dazzle the whole sky, getting further and further away as the seasons change.
(but of course, how does the moon feel, then? and akito... you're so silly. the moon is only able to find its light thanks to the sun's warmth. it reflects all the love the sun has given it.)
so obviously toya fucking adores akito and is very much by his side no matter what happens as they grow up, and akito will get this through his thick skull one day. One Day šŸ˜ but there's another handful of lyrics in moonlight that really stand out to me for the light they shed on akito's thoughts and perspectives:
We continued to have dull dreams
We, who imitated to find our paths
Even if it's trash, even if it's rags
...
I couldn't even see my dull dreams anymore
Still, I continued to chase them
Even if it's all fake, even if it's all real
Looking back, they're just there
Those blurry memories of mine
Irony, now reduced to waste
I tried to break free from clichƩ, yet...
"Another rehash of someone else's work?"
...
Time pases, time passes,
Don't avert your eyes when we turn back and look
We, who imitated to find our paths
Even if it's trash, even if it's rags
What lies past the endless dream I chase
Is my own light, shining forever
these lyrics fascinate me. because what is akito's (what is vivid BAD SQUAD's) dream? to surpass RAD WEEKEND. and these lyrics tell us that... akito, deep down, understands the ultimate fruitlessness of that dream. "we, who imitated to find our paths" - the desire to do something better than RAD WEEKEND was integral for the formation of vivid BAD SQUAD and does lay the foundations for who they all are now. but when you confine yourself to standards set by people who are not you and never will be you, the only thing you accomplish is squandering your own growth.
i'm telling you right now: they can't surpass RAD WEEKEND. it's not a lack of skill; it's not a lack of drive. but nothing they do will ever be like what ken and his groupmates did. as long as that is the metric they judge themselves by, and let OTHERS judge them by, they will only pale in comparison - another rehash of someone else's work, yeah? and i think akito is the closest to understanding that but his stubbornness is in the way.
unless they let themselves exist freely and pursue their own unique legacy, they'll be stuck chasing after this dull (unoriginal) dream. nothing they do will ever be worthy of RAD WEEKEND's status. i mean hell, what was it that ken said to akito? oh yeah:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
essentially: RAD WEEKEND was nothing more than a concert put on by a passionate handful of individuals, and, sure. it was amazing. a real demonstration of what people can do with music and performing. but humans are suckers for nostalgia and romanticizing the past; it was just a concert. i think ken was trying to tell akito that they're overthinking and overdoing it. they need to dial it back, let themselves be kids and grow up and do stupid shit and experience life, and just have fun with their music first and foremost. they don't need to fill in the shapes of someone else's footsteps to lead fulfilling lives. they can go their own path.
but i don't think ken needed to tell akito this. akito knows already. it just goes so far against everything he's been taught all his life. he's resisting this next (still subjective, admittedly) fact. next to an, akito is the Loudest about surpassing RAD WEEKEND and i believe at least 3/4ths of his vehemence about it is to compensate for the deep-set feeling that this isn't the way to lead their lives. if they keep going the way they are, they'll be stuck in a dissatisfied loop, leading to depression and possibly even causing hatred of the music they love so fucking much. and like, okay, hypothetically let's say that they do 100% "surpass" RAD WEEKEND - whatever the hell that truly entails (seriously can anyone tell me what that would truly and honestly entail. yeah that's what i thought). ...what's next? not one of them has put thought into what their lives will look like beyond this One Thing, and should they ever achieve that One Thing or realize that it's actually unattainable, they'll end up lost and confused. it's a recipe for the ultimate identity crisis for all 4 of them. and akito knows and understands this, but he won't admit it. not yet, not quite. he's brute forced his way through so much of life already. why not this, too?
but... he'll get there. and so will the others. kids always do. they'll be alright.

Oh. Oh man. I never thought about how hard ShB must have been for Urianger, lying to Rowan above everyone else and watching her suffer, knowing he can't say anything. And then when it all falls down... Oh man, the guilt. How did that all go down? What was ShB like for them?
It's great, because Urianger made the decision to start actively courting Rowan while she was absorbing all the Lightwarden's light. The thought process: I can offer my heart as a hideaway through all the trauma of this! This won't end badly at all! What happened after is entirely up to her, and he fully expected to be dumped right after they returned home with the Exarch's death.
Tumblr media
Something that I'm kinda looking forward to exploring more is the fact that Urianger underestimates how much his affection for Rowan grows and evolves when they reunite on the First. Like the Exarch, he has this idealized form of Rowan to think about for three years. Then she's back in his life and she's real. And not only is she real, she's more complicated and fun and interesting than a memory could ever be. He's been in love before and he thought he knew how it would effect him. But love is different every time, and with every person. By the time they get to Mt. Gulg (I almost typed Mt. Guilt lmao), he's starting to realize that he's not going to handle life well without her.
Tumblr media
He buries his guilt in acts of affection or trying to humor Rowan and Ryne. Urianger is going to tell jokes (Rowan gets his sense of humor) and find flowers and trinkets to put in her hair. He's going to be the attentive healer after battle, and while he can't do much to fight the Light, he's going to do everything else. Because what else can he do? The plan must work. The Exarch worked for over 100 years on it...
But the plan doesn't work. The Exarch can't take the Light into himself and fling himself into oblivion and send them home. And now Rowan is cracking under the pressure that would be too much for any one person and now it's the person he wholeheartedly loves. He picks her up and runs down that mountain, probably teleporting down at least half the distance. The next time she's conscious she's out to get Emet-Selch's head and he can't stand that she would do it alone either.
Tumblr media
And then she forgives him. He cannot fathom it, but the release on his heart is such a relief. He's ready to go to the bottom of the ocean to face the villain with her. And if we ask Rowan... that's all she ever wanted. Rowan doesn't back down from the monsters she's asked to slay. She knows she can do it, and she knows she's one of frighteningly few who even can. On the First, she is the only one who can face the Lightwardens and live. She'd just like some support for the other things, you know? It's why she was so receptive to Urianger in the first place - he's doing things, not just raging at the injustice. She's faced injustice before and people ranting at it never did her any good. The romance did comfort and shield her. He gives her White Auracite to vanquish Emet-Selch. He's supported her the entire time they've known each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After they defeat Hades they have to have a long conversation about it all. How it wasn't really the fact that she had to face something that could kill her that made Rowan upset, it was the fact that Urianger and the Exarch hid details about that would all entail. He vows to be more open, and luckily that was a thread that the writers decided to continue on through Endwalker. (On top of that, the whole situation colors their sex life as well, which is fun to write about.)
So yeah! I hoped you enjoyed my essay about my Wolship!

Okay, hear me out here for a sec. Great Teacher Julius Belmont. It's a fic where the greatest vampire hunter to ever live, permanent killer of Dracula, gets a seemingly mundane job at a highschool. Except there's one caveat: It's a highschool for supernatural beings/yokai/what have you. And Julius doesn't have a single clue about this fact almost entirely because he's been wandering around the world without his memories since like, 1999 and just making due up until the Eclipse and now remembers "Oh shit, I had a teaching degree this whole time?" So he just decides to get a job if only to pass th time between supernatural spookiness that happens to both Belmonts in general, and his charge Soma in particular. So on your first day, you have him introducing himself to an entire classroom of supernatural beings in disguise, full name, while everyone in the classroom tries not to flip their shit as the fucking final killer of Dracula is just casually trying to teach them lessons about history or math or what have you. Why did he get hired exactly? Not for anything nefarious or something like that, the principal just wanted to have a giggle and saw that Julius also had a good track record before the great forgetti resetti so they figured he'd be good to hire on. For the real fun to begin, however, the masquerade at the school needs to either be broken by accident and the kid freaks out only for Julius to merely shrug and keep on teaching and or comforting said kid, or for shenanigans have various other Sorrow characters come round to help teach or cover for Julius because some supernatural fucko has been committing horrors and needs to be put down. If that second one comes to light have like, Hammer be the one to cotton on to the whole supernatural school thing but not care as long as he can sell them good ("God damnit Hammer stop selling weapons to highschoolers.") This has just kinda been rattling in my head for a while now

fun little facts about hiina and mizu !!
Tumblr media
modern au
hiina has bipolar and is autistic, much like me, and that brings quite a few problems for them
they fight at least once per month due to hiina's mood swings, and have broken up multiple times
only to come back to each other again while drunk and lonely
mizu, being a bassist, has written numerous songs about hiina and plays them for her at gigs (all of her fangirls hate hiina's guts)
they have a ragdoll cat called miso
hiina owns six horses, and the first time she introduced mizu to them her favourite horse (whiskey) took a liking to mizu and she cried.
their bedroom is PINK. hiina has littered it with pink and sanrio and lace and all her cute adorableness and mizu has a corner for her desk and the occasional trinket around the room (not that she minds)
their house is exactly the same.
hiina cannot cook. mizu cooks really well. mizu cannot bake. hiina bakes really well. it works.
"she asked for no pickles" "no darlin' it's fine really" "absolutely not, you're allergic"
they get each other really silly gifts when they're apart ("hey I thought of you when I saw this" "baby that's a rock.")
they both really like studio ghibli, it's how they bonded
hiina absolutely LOVES mlp and they dress as either rarijack or flutterdash every single year for halloween
they have matching tv girl bracelets because their entire relationship is a reference to it
THEIR song is either my girlfriend by tv girl or forever by the little dippers
they dance to their playlist in their kitchen (probably drunk)
hiina and akemi have regular conversations about their sex lives because they're the bestest friends ever (with taigen and mizu in the same room)
during all of hiina's depressive episodes mizu takes care of her as best as she can by cooking for her and cleaning the house etc because they're adorable
canon
for the first year of them travelling together mizu refused to let hiina join her in fights and made her wait outside so she wouldn't get hurt
that was until hiina killed a guy who was about to stab mizu and mizu realised she's good asf with a bow and reluctantly began letting her fight alongside her
there were about 13 instances in which they almost met or walked past each other before they officially met
mizu has killed men before for getting handsy with hiina when she didn't want it (even before they got together)
taigen had a feeling there was something going on before they even realised it and made a bet with ringo about it
"why do you sleep in trees?" "I'm a bird" "well you're as pretty as one" "awww-" "and just as annoying."
mizu calls hiina dove and the first time she did so hiina sobbed uncontrollably for about an hour because that's what hana called her and mizu forgot
mizu put hiina's singular hairpin in her new sword :3
I love my silly little lesbians they mean so much to me

Damon Vs Stefan, But Theyā€™re Both Toxic
One of the most popular debates on the internet ever since the first season aired is: which Salvatore brother is the best love interest? But is it really up for discussion?
Tumblr media
(before reading, this is only my opinion based on my knowledge of the series, I'm not trying to hate on the characters or the series)
Most movies and series have their fanbases discussing many topics which can lead to real divisions among fans. The hottest topic you can ever discuss with another fan is probably whatā€™s the best ship (romantic couple) or love interest.
The biggest example is probably the Twilight Saga which has people still arguing whether the best love interest is Edward or Jacob.
Speaking of supernatural romance, The Vampire Diaries is still to this day one of the most popular TV series, with eight seasons and two spin-offs, it quickly became revolutionary.
Seeing how people still talk about it, I wanted to compare the Salvatore brothers and explain why theyā€™re both terrible choices. To do so, I will focus on both of them singularly so that, even if you havenā€™t seen the series or you donā€™t remember it that well, you can understand my point of view.
Stefan
Tumblr media
Iā€™ve seen so many people arguing that Stefan is the best love interest because heā€™s ā€œthe good oneā€ and his love for the protagonist, Elena Gilbert, is so pure.Ā
While I can see why one would think that heā€™s not as ā€œevilā€ as his brother, I wouldnā€™t say that he is good. In fact, I think heā€™s just as bad as Damon on so many levels.
But letā€™s take it from the start. We meet Stefan immediately in the first episode, heā€™s portrayed as this mysterious, good-looking and emotionally unavailable guy who was extremely acclaimed in every 00s movie. Heā€™s enrolling in the same High School as Elena, and we can see right there that heā€™s not like any other boy in that school.
In fact, heā€™s a vampire and heā€™s decided to study there just to meet Elena. Why, you would ask. Well, because Elena looks exactly like Stefanā€™s old lover Katherine. Funnily enough, a few seasons later we find out that Stefan never truly loved Katherine, they had their share of fun and he cared for her, but once he realized what she had done to him, he immediately resented her.Ā
Elena and Stefan fall in love and they help each other whenever something goes wrong, which happens very frequently. Because of that, they get separated and their love slowly fades away as they break up after a year together.Ā
Elena gets with Damon, but weā€™ll talk about that later, and Stefan has some up and downs before falling in love with Caroline. Their relationship is peculiar in a way, at first they both push each other away, then get together, then push each other away again and then get back together again.Ā
Spoiler alert: Stefan dies in the end as he decides that he wants to sacrifice himself to help Elena and Damon live a happy life together as they wanted.Ā
So, as you can see, he seems like a very gentle and honorable guy, but thereā€™s more to be said about him.Ā
Stefan is a ripper, he canā€™t control himself around blood and ends up losing his humanity as he slaughters and eats every human along his path. Heā€™s known for killing entire villages, spreading chaos and fear. Sure, one might excuse him because later on itā€™s revealed that he got that gene from his mother.Ā
But letā€™s put it this way. For Stefan blood is like alcohol for an alcoholic, they may not know what theyā€™re doing when theyā€™re drunk but that still doesnā€™t excuse their actions, the same goes for our vampire.Ā
Stefan is a hot mess as a vampire, heā€™s a ticking bomb and only has two regimes: he either feeds on animals, which results in him being way too weak, or he drinks blood and goes crazy.
Not to mention, the young Salvatore isnā€™t exactly an angel. Heā€™s done many wrongdoings throughout the series but theyā€™ve all been forgiven just because heā€™s Stefan and everyone likes him, only in the last season he finally realises everything that he has done once he becomes human, a big foreshadowing of his death in the end.Ā
Heā€™s still manipulated and killed people because they were getting in his way, but maybe that doesnā€™t really count as toxic seeing as most characters in TVD do so without any problem.Ā
So letā€™s talk about his attitude throughout the 8 seasons. Stefan has had a few love interests after Elena broke up with him, that wasnā€™t necessarily his fault since he had been compelled by Niklaus to turn off his humanity, but even after regaining his humanity, he seems off and distant.Ā
After Elena, Stefan is confused and doesnā€™t really know what to do. But just as he was about to get over her, his brother gets sucked into another dimension (so much happens in TVD, so I hope you can keep up with me) and he decides to just leave everything behind and get a new life and a new girlfriend.
That doesnā€™t go too well since the girl dies soon after, he was never really into her and never opened up about anything with her.Ā
So later on he realizes that heā€™s in love with Caroline, what a surprise, but the two of them cannot be together yet. Once they actually become a thing (it takes a while), Stefanā€™s first love appears and Caroline is very jealous.
Does that stop Stefan from running away with his first love and having a relationship with her as soon as heā€™s in danger? Nope, he does leave Caroline without saying anything and spends years with his first lover.Ā
Not to mention, as soon as he gets back in town he gets dumped by the girl and he goes back to Caroline. She accepts but tells him that he canā€™t run away from her anymore.
He kind of runs away again? He proposes to her but heā€™s also wanted by the Devil to work for him, so he turns off his humanity and leaves Carolineā€¦ again.Ā
See a pattern here?
In the end, as I said, he sacrifices himself for Damon and Elenaā€¦ right after marrying Caroline.Ā
Now, Iā€™m not saying heā€™s the worst person in the whole series, but I must admit that his relationships were all very weird and superficial. He never really got in-depth about his feelings with anyone a part maybe from Elena. He always sacrificed himself for Elena, which was cool when they were together, but after breaking up my question isā€¦ why? He gave up on his brother when he thought he was dead, but never gave up on his ex-girlfriend?Ā
Letā€™s see it from Carolineā€™s point of view. Her boyfriend took his sweet time to realize that he liked her, he left with his first lover, proposed and then immediately un-proposed since he worked for the devil, he had a full debate about whether he shouldā€™ve married Caroline and after marrying her he basically kills himself for his exā€¦Ā
As I said, I donā€™t think heā€™s exactly good. I personally think that heā€™s very toxic in his ways, we just learn to ignore it throughout the series because heā€™s always painted as the best brother. But to be fair, even if he had stayed with Elena things wouldnā€™t have gone any better between his blood problems and tendencies to sacrifice himself for anything.Ā
Damon
Tumblr media
Letā€™s talk about the older brother.
Itā€™s fair to say that most people love Damon even if heā€™s the bad boy, or maybe they like him because of that.Ā
I honestly think that heā€™s had a big character development in the first 3/4 seasons, but after that, it got really boring and repetitive. At least, unlike Stefan, he learned to value himself and those around him.Ā
Damon is presented to us as this jerk and heartless older brother whose only goal in life is to torment Stefan for everything heā€™s done to him. That promise gets forgotten very quickly in the series, but thatā€™s a different topic.Ā
I personally cannot stand Damon in the first 2 seasons. Heā€™s so exaggerated in every way, heā€™s made out to be this big bully who kills without remorse and sleeps with everyone.Ā
He literally kills for no reason if not for fun, but everyone gets over it very easily, if not for a few times when they kind of point out to him that heā€™s not the best person ever, but what really ticked me off was the way he treated Vicky and Caroline.
Vickyā€™s death is something spoken about every season with her making an appearance every single time. So many things wouldā€™ve changed if she hadnā€™t died! And Carolineā€¦ well, I just felt sorry for all the abuse she had to endure and that everyone ignored once she became a vampire.
Can we also talk about the fact that Damon is like 25 (ignoring the fact that he's been alive/dead for 170-something years) and sleeping with Caroline whoā€™s 17 while having a crush on Elena while sheā€™s also 17? Yikes.
Heā€™s very determined to find Katherine, his only true love who is later revealed to be a traitor and a liar. Everything Damon has done to get her back means nothing and the worst part is that Katherine has always been in love with Stefan and Stefan only.Ā
Once his love dream gets destroyed, he focuses on Elena full-time. He seems to be dependable on his love interest, meaning that he lives his life based on that only.Ā
And his personality doesnā€™t really change when he turns off his emotions so thereā€™s not much to compare him to, if anything it just makes it worse because it means that heā€™s always so bloodthirsty and perverse in a sense.Ā
He doesnā€™t really have any relationships other than Elena and Katherine, he does hook up with many people throughout the series but itā€™s nothing more than sex most of the time, except for a few women he befriended.
The only good development he had was about caring for his friends other than his girlfriend. But that doesnā€™t cancel the fact that he was willing to kill and actually killed Elena and Stefanā€™s friends for nothing. But yeah, there isnā€™t much to say about Damon since his main problem is killing people here and there and his obsession with his love interest.
But even that doesnā€™t stop him from sleeping with other people while being deeply in love with Elena or Katherine, although this is a bigger problem in movies and series, cheating is so normalized that people donā€™t even think about it anymore. While one could discuss that he didnā€™t really cheat since Katherine was allegedly blocked under a church and Elena was asleep and couldnā€™t wake up. But is it really a good excuse? I mean, if his love for her was so deep that he wanted to become human and spend the rest of his life with her, shouldnā€™t he only want to sleep with her?
As per toxicity, in his relationships, heā€™s pretty stubborn and easily irascible. Heā€™s Stefanā€™s opposite, so while heā€™s understanding and open to confrontation, Damon tends to think that his opinion is always correct and there is no other way until proven wrong, and even there he wonā€™t admit that his idea wasnā€™t the best. I think itā€™s safe to say that he has some anger issues, every time he has an argument with someone or feels threatened he goes rogue and unleashes his anger on people.Ā
Heā€™s not the nicest but as I said, that doesnā€™t mean much. He might not be as nice as Stefan but that doesnā€™t make him worse, to be honest.Ā
So in conclusion I donā€™t think that thereā€™s a better choice, both brothers helped and ruined Elena's life in many ways. Both of them had this superhero complex and wanted to sacrifice themselves all the time, they couldā€™ve just come up with another idea or something half of the time but they didnā€™t. And every time Elena got in trouble it was mostly because of them, because someone wanted to get revenge on what they did in the past or simply to hurt them and she was the perfect way to do so. Iā€™m also pretty confused by the fact that they fell in love with Elena just because she looked like Katherine at first, Damonā€™s infatuation is plausible since he was head over heels for that woman, but Stefan? He never really loved her, so why approach Elena in the first place?
Like most stories with supernatural characters, vampires are not the healthiest partners. Stefan or Damon? Thatā€™s not an easy decision, but not because theyā€™re both amazing people, although they did care for Elena till the end. Theyā€™re both toxic and difficult to deal with but maybe thatā€™s exactly what made them so memorable and acclaimed by fans. No matter how cold and scary they could seem, they had a sweet side of them with the people they really cared about.
Which brother do you prefer? Let me know!

i mentioned in my last post that i had a hefty hc i planned on dropping and thats this babyyyy let's talk about adam's death, and no i'm no talking about that one time in hell. i'm talking about when he was a mortal. what if i told yall his death was caused from something he ate,,,,
ā€œCursedĀ is the groundĀ because of you; Ā Ā Ā Ā through painful toilĀ you will eat food from it Ā Ā Ā Ā all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistlesĀ for you, Ā Ā Ā Ā and you will eat the plants of the field.
when adam and eve got kicked out of eden, they both got punished. even though adam didn't eat the fruit of knowledge, and he was extremely mad at eve for doing so, he still stood up for her. and because of that he was guilty by association. his punishment was that he actually had to work. he had to provide for his family or what was left of it thanks cain so for hours he'd be out in the fields actually putting in the work to bring home something. but you gotta remember, this is the first time he's ever had to do anything like this so he was learning as he went. so his gardening skills weren't the greatest ( still arent but thats on purpose and we'll get into that later on ). if he could grow it, he gave it a go. which ended up being the end for him.
By the sweat of your brow Ā Ā Ā Ā you will eat your food until you return to the ground,
unbeknownst to him, he had accidentally grown deadly nightshade ( fun fact another name for DN is ' the devils berry ' šŸ‘€ ) he thought it was just another berry, and after being out there in the sun for fucking hours, he took it upon himself to treat himself. and if you don't know, it takes anywhere from 8-10 berries or a single leaf to kill a grown adult. and this dude ate an entire branch worth of berries. it's a miracle he survived for as long as he did after eating that much. he lived for an entire 7 days ( get it?? ) after consumption, before he had passed away. he started feeling the symptoms about an hour after eating the berries, it wasn't unbareable at first. the first symptom was dialated pupils, second being dry mouth, and then throughout that week he continued to get worse and worse. and adam is a fucking baby when he's sick, always has been always will be. but this was by far the worst he's ever been. two of the more extreme side effects to deadly nightshade, is delirium and hallucinations. both of which he experienced, often times forgetting what he was saying, or doing something completely out of the ordinary but he refused to admit something was wrong. this whole time he thought he was completely fine, but he was far from fine. the majority of his hallucinations were flashes of cain and abel. a bloody cain, and a deceased abel. with no head. on the 7th day, he went about his daily routine. and it was during that walk to " work " where he passed. he died at 930 years old.
Ā Ā Ā Ā since from it you were taken; for dust you are Ā Ā Ā Ā and to dust you will return.ā€
emphasis on the dust. when his body had finally gave in on itself, paralysis -- another symptom, his body literally disintergrated into dust ( coughcoughthinkthanossnapofdisintegrationcough ). he just...poofed. no body, no trace. there is no grave. no one knows where exactly he died, not even he entirely knows. he has an idea, but he can't point you to the exact location. all he knows is that he didn't make it to his field and that he felt insanely hot ( hyperthermia, yet another symptom ). he remembers closing his eyes, just for a simple blink, and when he reopened them he was blinded by a bright white light and hearing someone yap away about " wElCoMe To HeAvEn We'Re So GlAd YoU'rE hErE šŸ˜…" ( a lie ) and the first thing adam said was " what about my family? "
and that my friend is why you don't see adam eating fruits or vegetables. šŸ˜Ž
also bc he just doesnt like either. boring and bland asf but thats all there was back in the day

MYĀ Ā  PERSONALĀ Ā  RANKINGĀ Ā  OFĀ Ā  SOMEĀ Ā  OFĀ Ā  HARLEY'SĀ Ā  DESIGNSĀ Ā  /Ā Ā  COSTUMESĀ Ā  FROMĀ Ā  OVERĀ Ā  THEĀ Ā  YEARSĀ  .
Tumblr media
as we all knowĀ  ,Ā  harley's cycled through a lot of different outfits over the yearsĀ  ā€”Ā  some goodĀ  ,Ā  some badĀ  ,Ā  some downright criminal .Ā  Ā since i'm home sick from work todayĀ  ,Ā  i figured it'd be fun to post my thoughts on some of them .Ā  Ā it's by no means an exhaustive rankingĀ  ,Ā  some designs have been skipped because i'm entirely neutral on them while others i left out because it just didn't feel necessary to include them .Ā  Ā that being saidĀ  ,Ā  i've included all the ones you'd expect .Ā  Ā for easeĀ  ,Ā  it's broken it down into three sectionsĀ  (Ā  comicsĀ  ,Ā  video gamesĀ  &Ā  live actionĀ  )Ā  and because some pretty large images are involvedĀ  ,Ā  i've popped it under the cut .
FIRSTĀ  UPĀ  :Ā  VIDEOĀ  GAMES .
Tumblr media
tied for first place , we have suicide squad : kill the justice league and injustice 2 . i absolutely love both of these designs . you'll see in this post that i'm a big fan of harley in trousers , which both of these designs have . i'd argue these are the two least sexualised / male gaze-y of the video game designs i've included and that's definitely another reason i favour them .
next up is arkham knight . as we go through this post , you'll see i don't necessarily have a lot to say on some of the designs . some of them really are just a case of ' i like this design more than that one ' . this is one of those designs .
moving to the bottom row we have arkham city and arkham asylum . these ones definitely feel more tailored for a male audience to me , especially arkham asylum . i don't dislike these costumes , but i don't love them either .
last is from injustice 1 , the only design here i actively dislike . it is just ... not good . take away the red and nothing about this screams harley to me . i also just don't care for harley's skimpier outfits the majority of the time .
Tumblr media
NEXTĀ  :Ā  COMICS .
Tumblr media
did you really expect me to put anything other than harley's classic jester costume first ? nothing is ever going to top this for me . this is harley . it's playful , it's fun , it's timeless . 10/10 no notes .
i actually love harley's most recent comics design , the hair especially . it's a lot of fun , i love the trousers and overall i really think it works as an updated take on her character .
next up is a neat little design by enrico marini from batman : the dark prince charming . gonna be real with you , 95% of the reason i included this one was just to shout out how much fun the hair is . while this design is certainly impractical for ... well , almost any activity , it's cute .
next we have rebirth and new 52 harley . these designs just don't really do much for meĀ  ā€”Ā  i don't hate them , in fact i enjoy the roller derby vibe , but i much prefer harley in other outfits . i'm also not a fan of canons where harley's skin has been bleached white in the same fashion as the joker's ( and this is not something i incorporate into the canon of this blog ) , i much prefer her wearing white make - up . i'm giving rebirth the edge over new 52 here because i'm always going to prefer harley blonde .
last up is harley's suicide squad outfit from the new 52 era . i really don't like this one , the corset especially .
Tumblr media
LASTLYĀ  :Ā  LIVE ACTION .
Tumblr media
taking first place we have harley's first outfit from the suicide squad . it's very similar to her injustice 2 look , so it probably doesn't come as much of a surprise that i like it so much .
next is the red dress from the suicide squad . this one i think is less about the dress itself and more that i love watching her be this complete force to be reckoned with , taking her enemies out with such brutality and skill , all while wearing this extremely girly princess garment .
now for her birds of prey outfits ! gosh , her wardrobe is so much fun in this movie . i don't necessarily love each outfit but i love the vibes . harley is bold and vibrant and will wear ' tacky ' things and this movie didn't shy away from that .
last place , unsurprisingly , goes to suicide squad . i hate pretty much everything about this design , from the daddy's lil monster slogan to ' property of joker ' to her array of terrible tattoos .

i have some more seven minutes in heaven with a pedro boy of choice as created/coined/prompted by @boliv-jenta, because iā€™m a goddamn comedian, and this is fun for me. thank you for thinking this idea up.
this is every pedro boy i have an opinion on:
javi p : 7 minutes pretending I have no idea who he is and treating him like your average joe, just so he gets a break from the incessant pablo escobar questions. i will however be unabashedly checking him out and complimenting whatever obscenely well tailored and bright button up shirt he has on that day.
marcus m: split the time in half. first 3.5mins? sorry iā€™m just gonna throw metal stuff at him (with consent) and test the magic metal powers. second 3.5mins? a little shoulder massage. he seems tense.
dave york: 7 minutes in Court Ordered Therapy. i donā€™t like him and i donā€™t like his hair. he gives me the heeby jeebies.
joel miller: iā€™ll be honest iā€™ve got 2 options. 1) sit on a porch and chill out with him and his guitar. serenade me, cowboy. iā€™ll serenade you right back.
or,,
2) do my level best to (with consent) give him life-changing-make-you-want-to-plan-a-future-with-me-level head. yeah. uh. next.
marcus p: let me at this man!!!! i want to play with his hair i want to be all curled up with him on a couch iā€™ll watch Casablanca! iā€™ll watch some movie from the 40s. do i like them? no! would i watch them all day (or in fact for 7 minutes) just to be in his presence? yes!
jack daniels deserves a nice one so hereā€™s a nice one for him as well: 7 minutes at some near-empty bar in the early afternoon. maybe i steal his hat and put it on and maybe that holds implications. perhaps i am unwaveringly normal and complimentary and heā€™s taken aback by my lack of performance and abundance of genuineness and falls in love with me and ditches the whole arrogance and misogyny sort of act. i donā€™t know. just spitballing.
din djarin: 7 minutes to watch him train or absolutely decimate a group of ruffians in a brawl. iā€™d like him use his gadgets and his brute strength and proficiency. iā€™d start wanting to bite things. after? iā€™d give him orange slices or a cold washcloth or again, head,,,,. whatever he needs. i live to serve.
pero tovar: talking him through a 7 minute personal hygiene and skincare routine. i just have this feeling heā€™d really be into soap if he ever got the chance to use it. and then if there was time left over iā€™d re-do his eyeliner.
max phillips: i donā€™t much like him. think iā€™d follow him around with a UEBOOM playing various songs from the twilight soundtracks for 7 minutes. then get the hell out of dodge before he could ruin my life.
javi g: anything. iā€™d stare at him in that white singlet for 7 minutes. iā€™d let him wax poetic about nicolas cage. iā€™d go for a swim. iā€™m terrified of heights but iā€™d cliff-dive with him. iā€™ll let him talk me through the entire nicolas cage collection. hell, iā€™ll hang his laundry out to dry for 7 minutes. I just want to be in his presence. heā€™s my dream man. ugh.
ezra: since prospect was taken off netflix in my country and i havenā€™t been able to watch it in 2 years, ezra in my head is now more closely associated with either @oonajaeadiraā€™s bookshop series or @frannyzooeyā€™s in the dark
(this doubles as a shoutout to them for some gorgeous gorgeous writing in these series and in everything they do. i hope you donā€™t mind me tagging you in this!)
if weā€™re in bookshop? iā€™d like to coexist with ezra peacefully for 7 minutes. all domestic. surrounded by the smell of old books. talking about random things. maybe holding his hand and stroking the back of it with my thumb. something soft and loving. what a sweet and heartwarming series.
if weā€™re in in the dark iā€™m sorry, i would lean more towards getting absolutely railed into next week by him. god heā€™s hot. iā€™m not immune to a bit of an age gap and this one is done so well and so tastefully.
frankie morales: i think iā€™d enjoy spending seven minutes chatting with an alcoholic beverage while weā€™re grilling at the barbeque. so dad-coded of me, but maybe the sun is setting and itā€™s summer and itā€™s a taste of normalcy he hasnā€™t had in a while so itā€™s romantic. i like him. i like him a lot.
oberyn martell: i think iā€™d spontaneously combust in his presence. heā€™s just ā€¦ wow. and ellaria is so gorgeous as well. Iā€™m just one shy bisexual. iā€™d need the upper hand or at least to impress them. OK letā€™s set it that Iā€™m like a travelling bard or something and Iā€™ve come to Dorne. Therefore Iā€™d sing for them. thatā€™s my One Great Skill. and then they go oh nice! and i get a full time job just doing what bards do in Dorne. and maybe i am invited to their bed once in a while.
pedro across the street: forget apple originals - to me, PATS is from oonajaeadirasā€™ good things take time series. her work has a way of sticking in your brain. would love a 7minute non sexual massage from this one. my trapezius (?) muscles are rock hard.
surely thatā€™s it. i feel like iā€™ve forgotten a big one. well. thanks for reading if you got this far.
peace out.

in this essay i will explore why mastermind fits chenford perfectly. and yes, i have officially lostĀ  my damn mind thanks to them ā™”
so this general thought is what threw me down the rabbit hole -- in 5x10 during the montage scene, lucy references the green dress to which tim smiles at. itā€™s an item that holds a memory for the two of them, perhaps the same type of memory, as tim looked lucy up and down when she walked toward him and asked her to save her a dance. a dance they were both clearly excited for considering ā€˜the debtā€™ gets paid at nylaā€™s wedding and they have their first dance. lucy knew exactly what she was doing when she referred back to it.
Once upon a time, the planets and the fate And all the stars aligned You and I ended up in the same room At the same time
1x01: the planets and fate literally aligned to have both of them at mid-wilshire station. they come from such different backgrounds and just everything theyā€™ve lived through before the start of the series??? like tim serving two tours and the whole rise and fall of his marriage with isabel; lucy not knowing where sheā€™s going in life but knowing she doesnā€™t want to follow her parents footsteps or wishes so she signs up for the police academy on a whim. also, the fact that percy asked grey to pair jackson with tim and instead of doing that, he paired up lucy and tim together. had lucy and tim not been paired together, their entire relationship would have likely not happened and it would have been a very different outcome for both of them.
And the touch of a hand lit the fuse Of a chain reaction of countermoves To assess the equation of you Checkmate, I couldn't lose
lucy met tim in possibly the worst moment of his life. he had lost himself, losing isabel put him in a really dark path and it was not pretty. he was hurting and it made him mean because tim may be no nonsense but weā€™ve seen how he is now to what he was then like he still means business but thereā€™s a more playful and patient side to him. which was not the case back at the beginning of the series where he was hurting and was projecting those emotions. like timā€™s intro to the series and how he told jackson he was going to make his life a living hell? well, that could have been a tim test tbh, but also felt so out of left field because we know he considers being a training officer something sacred and takes it seriously.
What if I told you none of it was accidental And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me? I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork The dominoes cascaded in a line
the way the two prank each other has always teetered between being something else. itā€™s playful and fun but itā€™s also very much them and even to an extent, intimate? like when lucy filled timā€™s lockers with booties when he made sergeant. during angelaā€™s wedding, her attention completely shifted off nyla and grey the moment she saw tim. she clocked him and beelined toward him. why? why? she knows why, he knows why, we all know why. tim wasnā€™t subtle about taking her in either and they were so flirty with each other in that moment, and then before they walked away from one another, he asked her for a dance and she was pleased by that.
then the prep for going undercover aka chenfordā€™s first kiss. it will never not be funny how these two dumb idiots thought that for going undercover, they needed to practice kissing and i am holding out for the day when nyla finds out and gives them shit for it because itā€™ll be so funny. but the fact that as theyā€™re working on their cover story, lucy says something she knows will get a reaction from it. itā€™s completely on purpose. she broke his brain for a second there and as he brought up the suggestion of them having to kiss, she kept playing dumb to make him spell it out.
No one wanted to play with me as a little kid So I've been scheming like a criminal ever since To make them love me and make it seem effortless This this the first time I've felt the need to confess And I swear I'm only cryptic and Machiavellian 'cause I care
lucy is an only chlid and being one myself, i can say that it is extremely lonely not growing up with any siblings and while that may not be the literal definition of that first lyrics, not having any siblings definitely does play into that because you donā€™t really have anyone to play with as a kid. we also know that lucy craves validation and praise. we saw it so many times while she was a rookie and even nyla says it when tim storms off when lucy goes undercover for the first time as nova.
additionally, lucy caring is key. when ashley broke up with tim and lucy gauged that something was wrong but didnā€™t know what, she used the opportunity of him leaving his radio behind to send him on a scavenger hunt to places she knew would bring him joy. like it was so devious and cute and she played dumb when he called her on it.
lastly ...
I laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk On your face, you knew the entire time You knew that I'm a mastermind And now you're mine
so this is one that i think is coming like when they have the conversation of how and when they fell. timā€™s just as perceptive of lucy as lucy is of tim except heā€™s definitely more subtle about it. like referring back to when she sent him on a scavenger hunt or when jan kept talking about being a minx and how it had ā€œlucy written all over itā€. also, the hotel room in vegas when he flat out tells her it didnā€™t feel like pretend. i could see them coming back to this as well as the fake confession and how tim to a certain extent was aware of her feelings but the fake confession did throw him off because of how he reacted to it when she started laughing.
the end :-))
if you made it this far, ilu???? thanks for coming to my ted talk and entertaining my delusion as i stumbled down the rabbit hole.

Got another question for ya!
Do you think bnha forces conflict in some places?
Like say the war arc for example. Like how they had most of their Pros give up and retire so they could bring in the UA students to fight.
And it's just... why is UA the only hero school doing this? If this is supposed to be a big war that'll decide the fate of the world, why wasn't Shiketsu or Ketsubutsu brought into this? I know some of their students have quirks that could've been useful in the war, why was it just UA?
If you could think of any other examples of this series forcing conflict, I would love to hear them!
Oh yeah.
This gets to the heart of something that's bothered me for awhile now, and for the longest time it's been a UA only thing (though of course War Arc/Post War just dumped that everywhere as well): UA, and hero schools as a whole, are narratively trying to be too many things at once.
You see, on one end, UA is a high school. A fancy high school, at that, one where there's a high academic bar to admission (one I doubt Mina and Kaminari could actually pass, for the record, but OK, Hori, these classic normal teenagers that spend a lot of their time in and out of school training to fight, and seem to spend a lot of their free time being normal kids instead of intensely studying are in the top ten of the country academically or whatever that bullshit was in the beginning), with school festivals, and parental permission required.
On the other hand, students are all but thrown into dangerous shit all the time.
The school that goes, "Oh, hey there, first year interns! Whooo's ready to go raid a Yakuza den!" is the same school that has to bow down to Inko so Izuku can live there, because surprise! We did the whole, 'put the kids knowingly into a super dangerous confrontation as first years' bit before the War too!
Do you see the disconnect here? I've mentioned this before, but MHA suffers from being a 'modern' setting, with modern values, in what is apparently just normal ass Japan, despite all the technological advances that probably should have radically changed society. It makes it fun and exciting, sure, but... the thing is, in modern time society as a whole cares about kids, and isn't exactly ready to throw them into the meat grinder. Shonen school settings like this, though, are about that meat grinder, about throwing the kids into ever more dangerous situations to see if they live or die against all odds.
Everywhere else, though, gets away with it by being detached from modern society, like Jujitsu, or just in a different world altogether, like Naruto. In a military dystopian hellscape, after all, things like modern values are irrelevant, so we can watch Naruto go into dangerous missions where people die with no logical dissonance!
To some extent, the League allows Hori to get away with this, since they're outside of UA's control, but relying on just them to carry the plot gets stale, so other problems are needed to be, again, confronted by first year high school students.
So to allow that, they either need to just... not really explain why kids are allowed part of it beyond 'reasons', like Izuku raiding Overhaul, or try and give an explanation, like Kaminari is apparently the only decent electromancer on the hero's side in the entire country, so they needed him to hard counter the other only decent electromancer in Japan, only to raise more questions than I think Hori really wants to answer, or just make it really obvious how that their participation is being forced.
It reason for all of this goes back to, on a simple Doylist perspective, the fact 1A, or at the very least Izuku, needs to be involved with major events. In a shonen setting like this, they need to fight, need to be put in danger. But, again, modern setting: that isn't OK, to put actual minors in harm's way, deliberately, all the time. So 1A and/or Izuku are just... shoehorned into these dangerous situations, are forced into them as you said, but it's only 1A. Where are literally every other school?
*shrug* That's an excellent question!
No, seriously. You can ask that at almost every given moment in the manga given how nonexistent the other schools are. Shiketsu literally only exists to be UA's rival as needed, and that's still more than what Ketsubetsu gets (or hell, almost any other class in UA). Compare this to like, Harry Potter, and you'll see a similar problem that world building often seems to exist only to service the plot, rather than making a world that makes sense and making a story that fits within that world. HP is so mono focused into the (utterly nonsensical) school of Hogwarts means they can avoid those problems better than MHA, which keeps trying to shove us into the greater scope of the setting, only to look away and whistle innocently when we ask questions about it.
When you look at it, after the initial setup you can see how Hori is trying to alternate where the dangers come from, to keep the story fresh: League attacks, then students go on an internship and are attacked. League attacks again, so they need to internship again so someone else can try and kill them. Ugh. And yes, I know Shigaraki is lurking in the background during the internships, but the League isn't the focus at those points, the heroes vs internship villains are; all he's doing there is showing how he's developing as a mirror to Izuku's development.
Beyond that.... you know, when you actually think about, when the staff knows that, A, a mole exists, and B, there's a group of people who seem interested in ambushing portions of the school when they separate from everyone else and become vulnerable, maybe, just maybe, someone should have brought up that taking a field trip into the wilderness was perhaps a questionable choice. You know, between how isolated they are, full of vulnerable kids they need to protect, how there's no way to call reinforcements, and how the mole could tell the people who want to, among other things, kill said children, and have access to a warper wasn't exactly a genius choice. Doubly so for Nezu since he knows Izuku has OFA, and that with the context that AFO has he probably knew about it by that point, and just in general since 1A was already attacked and that unstable individuals might have a grudge against them.
Of course, this is forgetting the conflict in school. And to a degree, I think I'm getting off topic, since a lot of that forced conflict in school is about Izuku feeling stressed and in danger rather than him being in physical danger, but... you know, Bakugou literally tries to kill Izuku, and there was nothing stopping him other than his own inability to land the hit. Izuku randomly gets a quirk, and then some murder tentacles almost off someone before he can get it under control.
They put these kids, kids with dangerous superpowers, teenage impulse control and minimal apparent training on how not to hurt someone when using them, into fights and then do basiclly nothing to keep them from going out of control. Why? Because, well, it makes it more dramatic for the readers. Thinking about it for five seconds makes it clear how messed up that set up is, compared to Final Exams, for example, which for all its problems are against teachers, well trained teachers with years of experience deliberately holding back (seriously. The idea of those weights doing anything to slow All Might is laughable. Really, the idea of any amount of them beating him is hilarious, but that's more because how wildly OOC his power level is more than anything).
I mean, hell, the Zero Pointer exists. I know people think its programmed to stop before it hurts anyone, and that it wouldn't have stomped on Uraraka, but.... that's putting a lot of faith into UA's safety policies. Even if it was, the fact it's so big means it destroys everything around it, which could easily kill someone on accident if a building collapsed on them. The sheer spectacle of it aside, the fact that someone in charge thought to unleash that in a city filled with kids (or really, anyeone) is nuts.
So yeah, there's definitely some forced conflict in MHA, as part of how so much of the setting itself is enslaved to the almighty weekly cliffhanger.

I have another theory that came into my head rn that i need to share and you liked my other ā€žthoughtā€œ so here we go šŸ˜ i saw a few people talking about the ā€ždeath and funeral talkā€œ sand and ray had in the last ep. And now i canā€˜t stop thinking about how ray asked sand if sand would sing that one song by micro at his funeral. Some people saying this is foreshadowing that one of them will die, but what if rays obsession with this one song came from the fact that this song played while rays mom was dying or something like that. I mean in one of the first episodes ray said to sand that the music he was playing are the old vinyl records from his mom.
Oh i donā€˜t know if my writing make sense and if my thought makes sense. And sorry in advance, english isnā€˜t my first language. šŸ˜
okay first of all thankyou for sharing this with mešŸŒ»
second of all your english is perfectly fine, and more importantly as long as it gets the point across thats all that matters imošŸ„°
and to respond to what you said, more than anything, to me, it was that very request of singing micro by ray that made me freak out initially, i was convinced they were gonna kill off ray...but when i rewatched it, i focused how sand also talks about not wanting to die and wanting to fulfill his dreams and thouhht OHNO theyre gonna take my boy awayšŸ˜
and then you came along and gave your alternate explanation to what could possibly have warranted first gushing about khao's acting in the finale and it not only made total sense to me but also gives me far more mental peace so now im choosing to live in that headcanon hehe so thank YOU
and also i feel like yes for sure micro has something to do with ray's mom but i do not think it was playing while she lay dead cos that would have been such a traumatic memory for ray and he would NOT be singing that song with such joy and light heartedness if that was indeed the bgm to him seeing his mom's dead body.
so im thinking it must have been playing on one of the few occasions in ray's childhood when his mom found time and energy to spend with him. one rare afternoon where he got to spend time having fun with his mother, where he didnt feel like a burden, where she genuinely looked at him with fondness and love.
maybe one of his only few good memories with her. micro could have been playing while that was happening. this is more plausible imo.
but ofc i can think of an extreme possibility where micro was playing while he saw his mom's body but his brain wasnt processing that it was that song that was playing.
and maybe a few weeks later he finds himself humming it and he decides to play the vinyls again to find where this melody came from...he feels good humming it (and if i again make a few more leaps this could be because even though he didnt consciously register it, this song did play on one of the last few times he got to see his mother. maybe just that fact bound the song to his memories in a way that went beyond logic and reason, its not like things like that cant happen either) and he wants to know what song it is and ever since then he has been fond of it for some inexplicable reason he cant quite put his finger to.
i went back to ep 2 to check if ray talked about this song being his favourite or anything and i saw something and now you have to see it too
Tumblr media
??????????????
i was NOT ready for that
i mean ofc its a normal thing to say when somebody is poking you while driving but still in the context of it all it freaked me out!!
and alsooo i found that the lyrics that he sings here actually goes well with my theory of ray's brain subconciously registering the song as what was playing the last time he saw her and now im shook cos GET A LOAD OF THIS->
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
its like ray's brain telling him to forget the traumatic memory (and by extension his past) and let go, but also at the same time, its also desperately holding the memories close and not letting him forget either!!
ofc the rest of the song might say something else entirely i do not know about that, but this really does strike a chord with ray's story imo.
anyways wow i did NOT expect to write this much, nor that i would be making these many interesting leaps, connections and discoveries along the way so thank YOU for prompting this allšŸ’•
hoping that our worst fears about the character's fates dont come true...hope that ray can forget, that he can let go after processing his emotions and actually go on that tour around the world with sand šŸ„ŗāœØļø
