here are all the symbols that have been proposed for maveriques at some point:
Tumblr media
the comet symbol was proposed as planet symbols (at the time of its proposal) were associated with binary gender, but it still keeps the pattern of celestial objects. it never really picked up as it was also already being used as a general nonbinary symbol. now it has pretty much fallen out of use entirely. the problem with the comet symbol is that when the unicode character is inserted somewhere, it turns into an emoji and looks nothing like the picture.
Tumblr media
the earth symbol was briefly considered for maveriques because it's a planet symbol, but it was quickly discarded after some sources stated its use as an intersex symbol. i don't know if nowadays it's actually used as an intersex symbol. i've never seen it and have seen other symbols for intersexness instead. the earth symbol has the same problem as the comet symbol.
Tumblr media
the sun symbol was proposed due to the colours of the maverique flag, as well as maveriques' "burning inner conviction" about their gender. it follows the pattern of using celestial objects while not using a planet. the symbol isn't used much for maveriques though, as in many cultures the sun is associated with masculinity. especially after solarian was coined, the sun became even more associated with masculinity in nonbinary spaces. nowadays, this sun symbol is sometimes used as a disabled symbol.
Tumblr media
the pluto symbol was suggested because it follows a pre-established pattern of gender symbols (celestial objects closest to the sun) and it doesn't look like the venus and mars symbols, setting it apart from binary gender symbols. this symbol never really picked up.
Tumblr media
this symbol was designed on a tumblr blog that no longer exists. the meaning of the symbol is explained like this: "the line in the center of the circle represents the binary and the filled in circle represents maveriques not being any part of it. the lines going sideways and extending in both directions is to show that no one is the same yet the people who identify as maverique have this identity in common." while the meaning is explained, it's still unclear. despite that, this seems to be the most commonly used maverique symbol. because this is not a symbol that already existed, there's no unicode character.
Tumblr media
this symbol was created by me a few months ago. the circle is a common component of gender symbols nowadays. the two small circles on the left and right symbolise the gender binary. the bigger circle in the middle symbolises maveriques, not "touching" the gender binary. there's no unicode character for this, because it's not a pre-existing symbol.

Some ideas I had for symbols representing demiboy, demigirl, and demigenderless. How do these look? 💙💚

transadromos 🐟
a gender modality related to transitioning in one direction and then another.
root word is “dromos” meaning “to run,” specifically from “anadromous” and adjacent terms which refer to patterns of fish migration. anadromous species include salmon and some species of sturgeon. these fish are born in freshwater rivers, swim down to the ocean where they mature, and then return to their freshwater home to lay eggs.
someone who identifies as transadromos may feel that they are transitioning “back” to a gender state that they previously left, or venturing to a new one.
ID: a 5 striped flag, with red as the top stripe, then white, light blue, blue-green, and dark blue-green. the symbol on the flag is an arrow that circles back on itself. the second image is the same thing minus the symbol.

But I feel you all really missed a golden opportunity to use the Ceres planet symbol:

GENDER SYMBOLS
Tumblr media
[image description : on the right the female gender symbol, colored with the traditional color associated to women, pink. On the right the male gender symbol, with the traditional color associated to men, blue. In the middle there is the androgyne symbol, obtained from a fusion of the two, it's purple, a color obtained mixing pink and blue, and this represents both at the same time or neutrality]
Today we talk about symbols! Why these exists? From where or what are they born?
The origin of the female and male symbol dates back to the Mesopotamian era, where the first astronomers who observed the sky had decided to associate the planet Mars to the God of fire and war, and in fact the male symbol would represent a spear (the oblique arrow) with an shield (the circle). While the female symbol has been associated with the planet Venus, and with the Goddess of beauty and love. The female symbol represents a portable mirror (the circle) with a handle to hold it (the cross below). These symbols were not originally created to indicate the gender or sex of a person, this type of usage dates back at least in the Renaissance. These glyphs could be associated with the stereotypes of society regarding the two binary genders (or from the generally more marked traits of them, and generally associated with masculinity and femininity): the strong and warrior male, the beautiful and sentimental female, in short. The androgynous symbol instead combines the meaning of what are, taken individually, the essences of male and female, just to indicate how androgynes in fact feel both ways or feel in some way that they possess both traits or that they are somewhere between them, the whole point of androgyny itself is rejecting gender roles and broke up the stereotypes.
I personally think about this as a symbol that simply means freedom, the freedom for ALL people to be what they want to be; whether this means being the opposite of what it was supposed for them to be, or being both, or sometimes being one and sometimes the other, or being neither at all, understood both as a gender expression and as gender identity. Women can be strong, men can be romantic, nonbinary people don't have to be androgynous if they don't want to, and so on. It's not a matter of biological sex or gender, but what a person want to be.
Let's break gender roles, let's break stereotypes.
[P.S: the explanation on the meaning, use, and history of gender symbols is very summarized and only the parts that had to do with the speech that were made were chosen. If you want to know more about the subject, search on the internet to find everything there is to know about it.]

These are the Disk-Beings, who were playable characters in the first DDR game and a few others (Max 2 US and Extreme and Party Collection JP). They were initially just the "blue male" and "red female" pair, but I thought in today's day and age, for inclusion's sake, other gender identities should be represented so I'm showing you my own Disk-Beings with the other LGBT gender identities for inclusion's sake

sorry 2 bother idk if i can ask this or not but what are the symbols around your prns in your desc?
They are illustrating my gender experiences, for me they seem to be non-binary woman symbols. But in reality they are archaic alchemical symbols for sublimate of copper antimoniate salt and of an antimony salt.

I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits

Etymology of "かわいい:kawaii" ≒”cute” -2
Tumblr media
↑Men and women passing each other: vessels and bows
   Today's poem
  @ The word "kawaii”( ≒Cute )
an expression used by women who want to be considered "cute".
An expression that men use when they see something and think it's really cute.
  (2021.02.01)
In particular, a woman who often uses the word "kawaii" sees something and says "kawaii" because "the woman want to be said that she is cute." In that sense, the woman is "blind" (because she sees but doesn't look at the subject properly. When she calls the subject kawaii, this is also cute, that is also cute, she doesn't see any of them after all, and It is synonymous with saying very she is kawaii.) In that sense, she is blind). On the other hand, some men say exactly "or Find out who is "kawaii". (Men and women used here are somewhat mystical expressions, and this argument holds even if the situation is reversed between men and women. In other words, of course, there are many women who can accurately identify "kawaii" people.) And self-proclaimed "kawaii" women are not always cute.
Also, the gender symbols "♂" and "♀" mean that "♂" means "one with a spear" (male) and "one with a mirror" (female), a man shoots a target with a spear. On the other hand, it is imagined that a woman keeps staring at her empty self in the mirror and is insensitive to external crises.
This fact is also associated with this poem. The male mark has an image of being aggressive with a spear, but that may be to protect something. (Opinion of one person)
It seems that women account for about 70%-80% of the users of SNS called Instagram, but considering what I have considered here, it is a meaningless, barren and harmful medium. Because they share the unaware and arrogant feeling of being "kawaii". After all, the contributors are nothing more than a disorderly crowd who "argue that they are kawaii".
There was a  news in Japan (2020) that Yoshiro Mori, the chairman of the Olympic Organizing Committee, resigned from responsibility after making a bomb statement saying, "Meetings with many women will be prolonged," but some people say that my consideration this time is also "suspicious." Probably. However, I argue that it is purely a "thought experiment," and I would like to say that Mr. Mori, who made a prejudiced statement, is different from me.

i wanna speak to the void abt gwens universe's colour symbolism and how it links to trans identity so here it is, feel free to read
the colours used in gwens universe - primarily in interactions with her dad are pinkish and bluish tones. the animators used pink as a way to show honesty, candidness and openness expressed, whilst the blue served to show isolation and dishonesty. ill discuss why i think so below
in the scene where gwen returns home after quitting the band, gwen is coloured in blue tones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shes hiding her identity as spiderwoman from her dad and isolating herself in her room.
Tumblr media
her dad tries to open up and talk to her about the case, hence the warm/orangey tones. but gwen remains blue, shutting him out. but when they hug, gwen is more purplish, showing a hint of her opening up.
Tumblr media
the other scene i think is especially significant with her colour symbolism is the confrontation after the guggenheim sequence.
when gwen comes out as spiderwoman, the colours start to shift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
gwen is now candid, shes come out to her dad and is trying to make him listen and understand her. but just like gwens blues became pinks, george's pinks shift to blue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the last image in this set is actually so chilling, the fear in his eyes hurt me deeply 💀 anyway
george hides behind his cop persona, avoiding and isolating from gwens confession to him, which is supported by the colour used to portray him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all of this builds to what i think theyre trying to say about gwen being transgender. the typical gender to colour association is pink girl and blue boy. the choice of colour is deliberate here as much as it usually is with the spiderverse team. why use these two colours in this specific way? a lot of people who dont think gwen is a trans girl will say "well those two colours dont have to represent trans identity" they dont, but the details say that the spiderverse team (once again) is intentionally using them to talk about trans identity and coming out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think that by putting the "protect trans kids" poster in gwens room, and the trans flag patch on officer stacy's jacket show that theyre not just randomly picking the colours, but that they made the conscious choice for the boy associated colour - blue - to show hiding and isolation. whilst pink is about honesty and openness whilst being the girl associated colour. i think that the use of these colours in this way is saying that gwen is a trans woman.
and if ur still not convinced well

i havent even talked about the DIALOGUE in this movie and how trans it is. her arc (and miles' arc) across the two movies is such a queer coded story. "can i tell my dad, will he approve of me? will he still love me the same?" like it couldnt be more obvious. someone also mentioned somewhere that the side shave is also significant? like when she has the long hair facing toward the viewers its the same as the pink being used to show honesty and linked to femininity, and the short side almost like a masc haircut and being of the opposite meaning when its facing the audience. idk abt that one but its an interesting thought! that as well as her like having the same shoe size as hobie even tho that man is so fucking tall - yk this cuz her chucks are stated to be his.
anyways if u got that far, thanks???
and if u still deny that gwen is trans then idk what to say, u prob hate trans ppl
gwen is trans, they dont need to explicitly say it inorder for it to be true, just bc they didnt say gwen is trans, or miles is somehow queer, or hobie is gender non conformist, doesnt mean theyre cishet.

AO3 is back up but I’m still writing Nimona headcanons
I feel like the main trio are all really bad at taking care of themselves
Nimona can go a long time without eating drinking or sleeping so it's really easy for her to fall into a pattern of not taking care of herself until she’s sluggish and snappy
At first it was really hard for the boys to distinguish her food withdrawals from her normal chaos
When they do figure it out they make sure she eats and drinks at least once a day even if it small
It took a minute for her to adapt to this because she views taking care of herself as a hobby
But after a while she realizes that they’re just looking out for her so she goes along with it
Every once and a while Bal gets hyper-fixated on certain projects which causes him to forget to eat and sleep
Nimona once asked Ambrosius why he doesn’t do anything to stop these habits to which he responded “Oh believe me Nim I’ve tried it’s better to just let him get it out of his system”
Nimona still didn’t understand this and tried to force Bal to get up and take care of himself
Which just ended with Nimona being on the other side of a verbal thrashing and then quickly shoved out of Bal’s workspace
Ambrosius didn’t even bat an eye
Just walked around Nimona into the room with some food and water and then quickly left him alone
After that Nimona started to leave Bal snacks and pillows in his workshop when he eventually crashed
(And occasionally carrying him to his room when Ambrosius was too tired to carry him)
Bal also forgets to charge his arm
So it’s not uncommon for his arm to die and stay locked in that position
One time Ambrosius walked into the kitchen to find Bal hunched in an awkward position over his coffee and he didn’t flinch
Just gave him a straw and a kiss on his head before he left for work
Another time Nimona walked into the living room to find them cuddled on the couch
And they start their normal rant of “Ew gross get a room”
To which Ambrosius replied “I would if I could Nim”
She was quietly informed that Bal fell asleep and his arm died shortly after and Ambrosius has been stuck like this for hours waiting for Bal to wake up
Nimona laughed so hard they almost woke Bal up
They started storing chargers all around the house after that
So I have a headcanon that I kind of hinted at in my other post
But I’m fully convinced that Ambrosius' shoulder is fucked after the movie (he also has scars because I said so)
Because no way in hell can this man take a blast like that to his shoulder and walk away perfectly fine
Nah that man will be doing PT exercises for the rest of his life
And this dork forgets to do his exercises until he’s literally on the floor writhing in pain
Bal has tried just about everything to get him to remember
He’ll leave notes around the house, he’ll remind him before he leaves for work, writing it into his workout routine
Nimona told him “Boss you’re being too soft” and quickly switched tactics
Now you might be wondering what method Nimona used and that's simple he started blackmailing Ambrosius
Nimona started to warn Ambrosius “If you don’t do your exercises I’ll tell boss what happened to the last slice of cake” or “I’ll release the video of you singing at the top of your lungs while cleaning the house”
And the stupid thing is it worked
Ambrosius always says shit like “I should have left you in that box on the side of the road” to which Nimona responds with “Nah you’d miss me too much”
He also had a bad habit of getting sucked into little projects like trying to rebuild the city and fixing all the brainwashing that's been going on since the institute was created
You know small tasks for one person
And this dork will stay locked in his office until Nimona and Bal drag his overdramatic ass out
He always makes a big deal about it too screaming shit like “Oh please help me the heroes of the realm are kidnapping me an innocent bystander while I was simply doing my job!”
I feel like Bal and Ambrosius have a lot of nicknames for Nimona “Nim” is the most common
“Hun” and “kid” are used a couple of times but not nearly as often as the weird ones
Like “tornado” “tsunami” “hurricane” and “forest fire”
And if we're getting really sappy “starlight”
Now if you're wondering where this one came from I’ll tell you
When Bal and Ambrosius were little beans Bal called Ambrosius “sunshine”
It was supposed to be ironic but after that he started calling Bal “moonbeam”
And Ambrosius jokes that Nimona completes their little astronomy shtick
She pretended to be grossed out and lets Bal hug her and Bal and Ambrosius pretended not to notice the tears on Bals shirt

Closeups and rambles about the designs under the cut, you know the deal
Tumblr media
I stared at Feenie’s pitiful puppy eyes sprite for like a half hour for this, I just wanted you guys to know that. I couldn’t decide on whether I wanted to draw her bleeding or include the necklace because logically they can’t be there at the same time but I did it anyway because I wanted to. Also I wanted her to be splattered with paint where in later iterations she’d have scars.

Sunflower/defense attorney badge inspired earring, and bleeding heart necklace. I didn’t feel like going easy on the symbolism on this one lol.
Tumblr media
Closeup of Rookie!Phoenixes gay little earring, I love putting too much detail into things that end up being way too small to appreciate. Obviously it’s an Edgeworth reference, and a reference to that one DD concept art where he has a little blue knight on his tie and I thought this is her era of getting really into being a knight in shining armor for everyone ever.
All the earrings/jewelry correspond to the people she’s closest to at the time, or at least most devoted to. Feenie: Mia and Dahlia, Rookie: Edgeworth (the sketch had the chess piece replaced with a large bead which is for Maya/Pearls), Beanix: Trucy, and MILFeen: the WAA (the star in the celestial trio alongside Athena’s moon and Apollo’s Sun)
Another note about the main trilogy Fem!Phoenix design is that I included temporary marks from Franziska’s whip rather than the burn scars from the bridge which are included in the later versions. Also the scars from being bashed in the head bc i felt like that wouldn’t just disappear, and I wanted to focus this design on JFA.
More about the scars, specifically her lip scars, I wanted to give her a darker lipstick that she uses to draw away the attention from the necklace chomping scars but during the 7yg she kind of gives up on hiding them. I also wanted to make sure there’s a dramatic change between Beanix and MILFeen, Edgeworth bullied her into having a decent skincare routine.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Edgeworth, she’s here, having homosexual feelings in the background. As usual. The fun thing about Narumisu is that they almost exclusively refer to each other by their last names so it doesn’t matter if they have different first names for a gender swap, they will always be ‘Prosecutor Edgeworth’ and ‘Defense Attorney Wright’
Tumblr media
All side by side at the sacrifice of image quality. I love her eras
