Steve’s Christmas Miracle (Shieldshock)
Tumblr media
“Man, Steve, you’ve got to get yourself a little holiday cheer man. This place looks like the barracks,” Sam commented, shaking his head at the lack of decor in Steve’s cabin. “I’m free to help with tree duty, if need be.”
Steve shook his head, morosely sipping a beer.
“Thanks, but no thanks, Sam. I’m not feeling it this year. I can’t do festive. Thanks for the offer, though.”
Sam frowned, a little worried about how dead Steve’s expression was. Ever since the defeat of Thanos fourteen months ago, Steve had lived like a hermit and had been very withdrawn.
“Okay. Just so you know, the offer to come to Louisiana for Christmas is still on the table. You’re sure you’re alright, Steve?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just need the solitude this year.”
Sam didn’t fully believe him, but he didn’t push. He understood what Steve was going through. He only hoped the man wouldn’t go too far inside his shell.
“Okay, but you call me if you need anything. Take care, Steve.”
He squeezed his friend’s shoulder and quietly left, dialing Bucky on his way out the door. He’d have Bucky do another check in on Steve before the trip.
Steve sank back into his sofa and shut his eyes. He didn’t know how he’d ever be able to celebrate again. They’d won, but at a high cost. The image of Pepper weeping by Tony’s body flashed in his mind along with Clint’s grief stricken face returning from Vormir. He didn’t know how much more pain he could take.
“Agent Lewis?”
“Yes, Captain?”
“Michael has an assignment for you. In his office.”
“Yes, Sir.”
Darcy nodded solemnly at her heavenly superior, but she was inwardly squealing at the thrill of finally having another assignment. It was the time of year when humans needed their help the most and she looked forward to helping bring hope to hurting souls. She’d spent her earthly life volunteering in shelters and soup kitchens during the holidays, and now she got to spend it helping reignite the joy of the season.
“Agent Lewis, you will be working with agents Carter and Romanoff on our next subject, one Steven Grant Rogers.”
Darcy’s eyes widened, but she kept her mouth shut. Even she knew better than to interrupt Michael.
“Here are the files for you: Past, present, and future,” Michael handed each one a folder. Darcy noted that hers said PRESENT. Hmm, this could be interesting. “I chose you three because you all knew or interacted with Steve during your time on earth and would have unique insight into his character. Steve’s heart is still soft, unlike many of our clients, but years of hardship have left him cynical and wounded and deeply depressed. Your mission is to point him towards help and healing and remind him of life’s joy’s. It is critical that he not continue to cut himself off in his grief and drive away his friends. He may not be a Captain America anymore, but he needs to see that there is very much a place in the world for Steve Rogers. Do you understand?”
They all nodded solemnly, Peggy and Natasha giving each other knowing looks.
“Good. Mission starts on Christmas Eve. I expect you will be prepared and follow the rules.”
He stared a little longer at Agent Romanoff and Darcy hid a smile. Natasha was still new to the job of heavenly messenger and tended to meddle more than what was strictly allowed.
After they were dismissed, the three members of team Save Steve gathered in their cozy angelic staff lounge to go over their files and talk strategy.
“So, how did you know Steve?” Peggy asked Darcy, after Natasha had brought them up to date on her last memories of Steve and his mental state.
“That’s the thing. I really didn’t,” Darcy sighed. “I remember him as this skinny kid who was a regular at the diner I waitressed at. He’d always smile this beautiful smile at me, but he never said a word and let his friend do all the talking. He seemed nice, though. I feel like we might have had an encounter of some sort, but it was really close to when I died and all my memories of that day are still blocked. It’s kinda frustrating. I honestly think Michael might have found someone else who knew him better.”
“There are no mistakes,” Peggy said firmly. “You must have had more of an impact on Steve than you thought. At that time in his life, a friendly face would have meant a lot, even though he was too shy to talk to you. He didn’t have many friends and unfortunately, most strangers were bullies.”
Darcy grimaced. “Ugh. Poor Steve. This file was tough reading. How do you think he’ll react to us, Agent Romanoff?”
“Steve isn’t phased by much anymore,” Natasha answered. “But he’ll likely think he’s dreaming. He’ll be cooperative, unlike a certain person I will not name.”
She scowled and Peggy and Darcy chuckled. Natasha had just handled a particularly stubborn old codger, who’d been a lot like the infamous Scrooge. She’d proven successful, but not without a struggle.
“This sounds like it’s going to be an interesting mission,” Darcy predicted. “I’m going to have to trust that Michael put me in this for a good reason.”
“That’s the spirit,” Peggy approved. “This is my last mission with the agency and it’s a very important one. Let’s give Steve a Christmas he won’t forget!”

seb cancelling everything including a convention appearance and flying cross country to film a tiny cameo in ghosted with chris confirms what i've always suspected: marvel saying they gave his part in aou to peggy because seb was "busy" so couldn't film a short scene was bullshit

do i Dar e put this in the main tag even though it is So dumb So silly but also does anyone dig phantom of the opera. does anyone dig it enough to begin making very light and superficial au's.
it's the radio station for kfam. kurt m is falling out of grace with station management, more so because of the Curse that's increasingly gotten worse within the station itself as well as the town. forrest nash is getting booted out of chicago. alas, he finds a mysterious letter addressed to him that a position will soon be open in gallows creek, so off he rides, melancholy into the behemoth of a building, in a dark and spooky town.
kurt m has been scared off, but forrest doesn't believe in ghosts, doesn't believe in demons, and the only person "living" in the basement, "underground," is clive, the janitor, and it's not like he never goes home, so what's the big deal?
until after his first week(?), peggy leaves slightly earlier than he does, and forrest is left alone only to hear a faint whistling coming from alllll the way down the stairs.

A Ghost Story for Christmas: The Treasure of Abbot Thomas (BBC, 1974)
"In what other parish church in the advowson of the good Abbot Thomas shall we find Bartholomew, Jude, Simon and Matthias all together in one window?"
"Not the 'good' Abbot Thomas, Peter. That was never suggested, not even by himself."
#a ghost story for christmas#the treasure of abbot thomas#horror tv#single play#bbc#1974#m. r. james#john bowen#lawrence gordon clark#michael bryant#paul lavers#virginia balfour#anne blake#sheila dunn#frank mills#john herrington#peggy aitchison#rosemary hill#ok so the festive season may be over‚ but you know what they say: a Ghost Story for Christmas is for life‚ not just for.. uh..#yeah. anyway. continuing to revisit these peerless xmas shockers. i constantly flipflop on favourites and most scariests as i said#in the tags on my Warning to the Curious post‚ but i think this is a strong contender for creepiest entry.. certainly the final 10 minutes#are quite unlike anything else the other stories achieved. i have to point out too one of the greatest uses of silence in classic brit tv;#the final shots are played without a sound and are all the more terrifying for it. beautifully done stuff‚ LGC at his most formal perhaps#in terms of the beautiful composition of this piece. the great Michael Bryant (one of our most undervalued actors) superb as the clergyman#whose noble scholarly intentions and slightly sneering skepticism guve way in one awful rash moment to an impulse of very human greed#but an impulse that won't go unpunished... as ever Clark is content not to spoonfeed‚ leaving us to draw conclusions and connect gaps#(a genuine question for any fans who've seen it: do you think Peter put the treasure back? i never can decide)#a masterclass in subtle writing‚ direction and performance (and sadly everything this year's offering wasn't..)

Guys, we can all agree that Simon and Johnny are fan favorites (I love Alejandro and Rodolfo is my bebe but I'm speaking statistically rn). We can also agree that Ghoap (be it romantic or not) is the most popular relationship in whole mw2 if not in entire cod franchise. They have actual Character Development, they actually like each other, it just makes sense. You can't mistake them with anyone else.
That's why I think we should already be prepared for their death (probably one of them, for dramatic effects. Survivor guilt and stuff like that.).
Now let me explain.
Yes, they're the main characters of mwii. Yes, they're loved by fans. Yes, it will cause outrage in fanbase. Yes it isn't fair that they just gave us characters we love and now they're taking them away.
And?
This is a game about war. War is brutal. War isn't fair. War doesn't discriminate. It kills people, good or bad. Majority of 141 will never live till retirement. They're soldiers - dying is part of this job, risk is always present. It happens.
And sometimes it doesn't have any purpose. "They could live. Their death doesn't change anything, other than them being dead."
And that's why I think it will be mundane. I think it won't have greater purpose. I think it will be entirely avoidable. It won't be fair, but
Who said it would be?
There is no justice in war, violence gouged her eyes and now she's blind to suffering.

If I had a nickel for every time I watched a piece of media with an Agent Carter who fights a blonde assassin before kicking her out a window, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s really weird it happened twice-

#steggyweek22 - day seven (belated) - free choice
peggy can’t say she wasn’t warned.
the official secrets act had prevented most of it thus far. but time marches on, as they say, and she’s now part of the historical record. and...there’s an exhibit. her first, a rite of passage among those like her. angie is an urban legend in her own right, and she’s tickled by the podcasts and the museum exhibits and the movies that try and fail to capture her many, many lifetimes. jarvis maintains his legendary stiff upper lip in the face of the conspiracy theories about his supposed time traveler status, while ana tries to get them in the background of as many photos as possible. peggy, as the newest of the lot, knows she should be proud of her tradecraft, since so little of her exploits have been uncovered (or linked to her, anyway), but really she’s just annoyed. the audacity of this museum and this curator to commit such lies and slander to plinth? well, she’s stayed undercover for this long for a good reason - she’s very good at what she does, and she knows how to mess with someone’s head. time to teach this steven grant rogers a thing or two.
steve will deny it under pain of death - but he’s always had a bit of a crush on agent peggy carter. he’s not the first historian to become a tad infatuated with a person they’re studying, but his level of regard (read: obsession) since doing his master’s thesis on the role of women in the post-war intelligence community is borderline concerning. which is why he was so excited to curate this exhibit on women in espionage for the international spy museum. and why he is afraid to admit...he’s pretty sure he’s being haunted. by peggy carter. or at least, someone who has her handwriting and feels very strongly about inaccuracies in his exhibit. there’s so little that’s known about her - born in hampstead in 1921, lied about her age to join the war effort, was seconded to the ssr, set up shield before going missing in action in 1951 - and steve did his best to represent her accurately in this new exhibit, but clearly someone objects to the historical record. strenuously.
through increasingly passive-aggressive sticky notes left on the museum labels, unsigned letters to the editor in the washington post, a series of anonymous twitter threads lambasting the museum, and a trove of handwritten notebooks mysteriously dropped in steve’s home mailbox, he begins to better understand who peggy carter was, and wishes more than anything that he could meet her for real. he begins to respond to the sticky notes and the twitter threads, hoping that he’ll find a relative or an old friend who can fill in the blanks that still remain.
is he in for the shock of his life...
or, a sitcom au where a (relatively) young immortal peggy carter trolls museum curator steve rogers

Pitch for a MCU miniseries: “A Larger Universe - Tales from Marvel”
Plot Summary:
As a standalone, anthology miniseries, each episode is a different “tale” focused on heroes who haven’t gotten the spotlight in the main MCU. But the REAL reason why this miniseries is being made is to fully integrate the Marvel Television shows into the main MCU canon.
So, under the guise of “highlighting unexplored heroes”, the show is actually completing the merger of the Marvel TV shows that came before Disney Plus/Phase 4.
Hypothetical Episode Line-Up:
1) Quake: Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent-turned-S.W.O.R.D. agent Daisy Johnson is sent to deal with a rogue cell of Flag Smashers, who are still around despite the loss of their leader (purpose of this episode is to address “Agents of SHIELD”).
2) The Other Carter: In the 1950s, Agents Peggy Carter and Daniel Sousa follow a lead on the assassin responsible for shooting Agent Jack Thompson (resolves the cliffhanger from “Agent Carter”).
3) The Man Who Can’t Speak: In Honolulu, Hawaii, a young couple befriends a mute man (Black Bolt) who claims to have come from the empire of “Attilan” a city located on the Moon. Thinking he’s insane, the couple later learn that the mute man is who he says he is and that he needs their help in finding a way back to his people (this is a soft reboot of the “Inhumans” show).
4) Sister Grimm: While fighting in Xialing’s underground fighting ring, Wong befriends a young witch named Nico Minoru. Seeing her potential as a magic user, Wong offers her a spot in the Sanctum Sanctorum as his mentee/protege (purpose of this episode is to address “Runaways”).
5) Light & Dark: Damage Control agents Sadie Deever and P. Cleary, coming off their run-in with Kamala Khan, are assigned to a lead on another pair of people with superhuman abilities, later revealed to be Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen (purpose of this episode is to address “Cloak and Dagger”).
6) Adventure into Fear: Wong and his mentee Nico Minoru learn about a supernatural being who has been terrorizing the streets of Los Angeles. The two of them go to investigate and discover that the supernatural being is Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider has been hunting the demon-human hybrid siblings, Daimon and Ana Helstrom (purpose of this episode is to reintroduce Robbie Reyes and to address “Helstrom”).
7) One Bad Night: Jessica Jones and Luke Cage follow a lead on the secret identity of Spider-Man. This turns out to be a mistake when the two of them learn that a crazy murderer is killing anyone who follows the fake lead. But the bad news for the murderer is...Frank Castle decided to follow the lead as well (purpose of this episode is to address “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage”, and “The Punisher”).
8) The Legend of K’un L’un: Shang-Chi returns to Ta Lo in order to bond with his aunt, Ying Nan. While there, he is challenged by an arrogant martial artist known as “The Iron Fist” to a friendly duel to see who is the superior fighter. Depending on Marvel, this could either be Danny or Colleen. (purpose of this episode is to address “Iron Fist”).

Ok wait I lied I have one sort of BJ-adjacent opinion, which is that while I don’t hate the trope of BJ failing to write to or write back to Hawkeye for a while once they’re back home, because I do think that’s in-character for BJ himself, it never quite seems realistic to me because while BJ might be content to sit there and be sad and miserable and angsty over not knowing what to do or say to Hawkeye, you know who I don’t think would be content with that? PEGGY. We know she and Hawkeye have communicated before, and I personally like to headcanon that they do so semi-regularly (though admittedly that part is sheer headcanon, of course, and maybe not even a believable one at that, but who cares). She’s even met Daniel! At the very least she’s going to be asking how Hawkeye is doing, and if BJ doesn’t give her a satisfactory answer then she’s going to do something about that. She’s not dumb and she has agency of her own and she’s not going to just sit there while her husband lets his emotional wounds fester without treatment.
Also, just in general, I think speculations about whether the members of the 4077 ever meet up again (or at least just generally stay in touch with each other) tend to forget or underestimate the influence of the characters back home and the fact that they all know each other now, too. The protagonists’ MASH family and their “regular” families are not wholly separate entities. And I think that’s a positive and hopeful thing! ^_^
