I keep coming back to this shot in Godzilla Minus One because it's basically perfect. As a classic Kaiju scale shot, it honestly can't be beat.
From the perspective of those beneath him, the only thing larger than the monster is the shadow of destruction left in his wake.
Normally the scale shot compares humans and their buildings to the monster, but in this one the monster is dwarfed by its own devastation, and I just think that's beautiful on so many levels.
Godzilla Minus One has completely ruined Human Side Plots for me by making one of the best human ensemble cast of characters ever put to Godzilla Film imo
Koichi and the Boat Boys, Noriko and Sumiko, Little baby Akiko...
My favorite part of Monsterverse lore is that Godzilla basically responded to being nuked in the face by just....fucking off for a while. Like, he could have blasted everyone within a hundred miles, but no...he takes a nuke to the dome and heads off to find his blankie under the sea and go nap-nap.
"Thanks for the snack, tiny humans. I'm drowning a city next time you see me, but whatevs."
Happy New Year! Getting myself back into the swing of things after a rather chaotic last-quarter of 2023. Starting off with a revamp of my old Godzilla design, something I always love coming back to!
