In theory that the new villain from the new Godzilla/Kong movie appears to be "just an orangutan" should be dissapointing... but the way they seem to be playing the creepy factor with its uncanny proportions got me hyped. A lot has been said about how we are more likely to root for mammals, specifically apes, than for reptiles; but this teaser just reminded us something that should have been obvious: the closer something looks to a human, the scarier it can be.

We are getting a genuinely scary uncanny-valley kaiju. The movie in general will probably be action and adventure but the scenes with this thing may not be out of place in a horror one.

Godzilla X Kong is unironically great, and every moment of the film was like reliving the simple, childlike joy of my favorite kaiju marathons as a kid.

Does the movie have "issues"? Oh yeah. Is the film some incredible contribution to human artistic achievement? Lol, probably not...but it reminded me of that time in my life when watching Godzilla suplex a motherfucker was enough to set me right for a whole week.

10/10, will see again.

It's funny watching people bemoan over the fact the Monsterverse is taking more and more influence from the Showa Era because that very notion is probably motivating general audiences to see it. It's a big campy eye candy spectacle for your eyes and knows it instead of trying to present itself as something it isn't.

I too want to see the big pink lizard with his new on-and-off monkey boyfriend fight an evil old bastard king.
