   Clark knew Batman wasn’t human, even before that disaster of a mission where he had let it slip to the others. 

   He’d known for a long time, from one of their early meetups, when Batman had first referred to him as Clark Kent instead of Kal-El, and he had panicked. He hadn’t ever lied to his teammates when he said that the cloak prevented him from seeing his body, but his ears still worked. 

   He’d tried to listen to a heartbeat, to see if his at the time temporary ally was lying when he stated he wasn’t going to tell anyone and… Nothing. There was no heartbeat, no breathing, nothing even remotely human, and if he didn’t know any better, nothing even remotely alive about the silence. 

   He couldn’t help but to pay attention more, to seek out the strange almost silence-feeling that accompanied the Gotham vigilante each time he felt it. It was… almost comforting, like the swaying of branches and the rustling of cloth over stone. Familiar, compared to the hustle and bustle surrounding him in the city. 

   The first thing he had noticed, physically that is, was Batman’s ears. Previously he’d thought the man unemotional, what with the rough voice, expressionless white eyes, cloak-covered body and the gas mask covering a good chunk of his face. 

   Yet the longer he watched, even idly, the more he noticed that while the man’s face or body didn’t show much, his ears did. 

   While Batman could stay silent and still for hours, the long ears twitched and swiveled, catching on the hood that he’d always wear around them. They’d pin back sometimes, a near silent sound he couldn’t quite place accompanying the movement, while other times they’d twist a near full three-sixty, as though searching for whatever sound it had caught. 

   Sometimes, when he’d startled the other vigilante, there’d be rattling noise, like wood and metal clacking together before it was cut off. It was a strange sound, one he’d not heard anywhere else, except with his… friend. 

   Were they friends? He’d like to think so. 

   The next time he was reminded that his friend wasn’t human was when he saw him get injured. It hadn’t been a bad injury, even if the Gothamite’s head had hit the wall with a very loud cracking noise, but he’d still smelled what he’d eventually come to recognize as blood. There was an almost pickle-like scent to it though that wasn’t quite it either. 

   Honestly the closest he could think of describing it was some sort of formaldehyde. And once he focused, he could pick out other things beneath it. Maybe not flesh and blood in the traditional sense, but still. 

   There was always that scent of cloth and wood, but he could smell the black liquid, paint, a metallic thing underneath like iron and steel. No heartbeat, no breath, but life all the same. It was honestly beautiful in a way, like a part of the city the other vigilante called home had come to life. 

   And it wasn’t like Batman minded whenever his own human mask slipped. Clark may have been raised by his Ma and Pa, whom he loved, but it didn’t make his body any more human in nature. There were just some things that he couldn’t change, and it took effort to move like one all day as a civilian when his body wasn’t designed to do so.

   So he stayed quiet for the most part when their group of three grew, and people started to speculate. He diverted the conversations whenever it turned to him, lightly admonishing over the various rumors. 

   It didn’t matter if Batman wasn’t human, he was still his friend, their ally and teammate. Was he curious? Oh of course, he’d gone into journalism for a reason after all, but it was still his friend. If he wanted to tell, he’d tell, and Clark wouldn’t break his trust.

I have a dumb question, and I really hope this doesn’t sound rude. What’s the logic for some of the characters? Like, if they’re the “hero” in their storyline, but they don’t seem to follow Biblical doctrine… does that even count? I’m sorry if that sounds snotty; I don’t mean to have an attitude.

Short answer: I don't know, I'm not the one sending in the characters 😂

But really I would say there's not necessarily a consistent logic that they have to fit. That's part of the beauty of Christianity, isn't it? Anyone who repents and believes is welcome; it's not limited to any certain type of people. For the characters people are sending in here, I think there are a few categories. There are some that fit what you said, who already hold Christian morals and who one could easily headcanon as being Christian within the story. Sometimes people send in villains who they want to have redemption arcs and become Christian. Sometimes it's characters who are Christian; mostly it's characters people would like to see become Christian.

#my favorite character who i headcanon as Christian is one who generally has very Christian morals and really wants to do good #but also lies a lot. and i think in that case it's like i could see him being Christian in the story #because Christians aren't perfect and even people who don't have their whole act together can believe #I'm not justifying continuing to do wrong. I absolutely LOVE the body horror and how it's not flattering or cute, like this isn't some cute little ears and tail shit, this is ACTUALLY GROSS and I love that,so many people refuse to actually make their "monstrous" characters unsettling in any significant way that might impact their attractiveness. Respect. Also, the idea it makes petting cats and furry critters harder is genuinely the most tragic side effect I've ever heard, that hit me way harder than so many other "was a lab rat" character's after-effects because holy shit, that would be the WORST for ME PERSONALLY. It may not seem like the most tragic awful thing compared to PTSD and pain and so on, but like, it's UNIQUE and it's incredible relatable in its mundane nature at the same time, and feels so much more sad and real than a bunch of OTT trauma stuff I can't actually relate to. Hope I expressed this well!!

It's such an everyday, mundane thing like you said so the fact you can relate how hard something like that would actually be despite it being one of the simplest joys most people wouldn't think twice about. Sure, there's the PTSD, the pain and trauma that comes with being an unwilling lab rat and growing all those very gross eyes and teeth which are not cute at ALL, so you finding that one very tragic aspect to her character is something I honestly smile about (in the worst possible way!) because for all the horrors that are part of her background, the everyday and mundane is something I wanted present too? At the end of an awful day, giving your beloved pet a hug is pretty much the only good thing about it and this poor bitch can't even have that because of her nasty, staticky little hands LMAO.

my joshua’s noise form isn’t draco cantus, my take on that is that it was a fusion of sorts between anguis cantus and joshua’s actual noise form that took the vast majority of its features from kitaniji’s noise form since he was the one controlling it.

his actual noise form is that of a dove. it fits with his other biblical motifs, and i think it’s fitting for my joshua that his noise form is something much more fragile and mundane than you might expect from a composer. it’s a representation of his soul, after all, so it can’t pretend to be any grander than he is.

in a way, his noise form is a window to the version of himself that he’s striving to achieve, a symbol of hope, love, and peace that’s open in its vulnerability and stronger for it.

S1 E6

Annnnd I’m back with feeling bad for Brandon.

This poor kid was so frazzled for such an important audition.

He messed up on a piano piece he’s been practicing over and over for days and has probably played damn near perfect dozens of times… and he messed it up in less than a minute. In front of a master pianist he wants to impress so badly.

And I think that’s a key part of Brandon’s character. He wants to impress people, please people, be the perfect fill-in-the-blank for… frankly too many people. He has so many people expecting so many things from him, and he’s stretching himself thin. Of course he’s going to mess up. Not just with the song, but in every other area of his life. That’s the stage of life he’s in right now. He’s starting to crack. He’s trying to do the right thing constantly but there is no one right thing anymore. Maybe there never was. His parents divorced when he was 5 because his mom figured out she was gay, and he loves his second mom Lena and he loves the twins they adopted and he was fine with them fostering Callie and Jude and YET he hasn’t had a choice in any of it. We heard him say that very early on, and Stef did not listen. Stef is so loving and she is also so outspoken with her own opinion that she treats like law (heheh cop joke) and she means well but she tells Brandon “you can get mad at me but you can’t walk away” even though walking away when you’re mad can be the best thing for everyone involved. Over and over, his whole life (I assume, based off these past 6 episodes), he’s heard, “you don’t get to do that, don’t ever do that again, you don’t get a choice, well now you get a choice because you wanted a choice, so now deal with your choice” and it’s just… He’s not allowed to do… anything. He’s never allowed to just make a choice, and even when he’s finally given the chance, he’s trying to make everyone else happy, before himself, and that’s impossible. No wonder he makes some of the dumb choices he makes this whole series. He’s never been allowed to make mistakes before, has he? I mean, he has, but his parents haven’t reacted well to them, or they’ve made it clear they expected more from him, so he is trying so hard constantly to not make mistakes. But he does. Of course he does. And he lashes out. Of course he does. And then he apologizes and says it won’t happen again. But do his parents say that to him? Like, listen to how he apologizes to Stef after their fights. He makes himself so small and acts like it’s all his fault and he cares so badly about not disappointing her.

But he does. He keeps disappointing her.

It’s only natural that eventually he’ll just accept it and do what he wants. If you’re gonna disappoint people anyway, might as well do it on purpose.

And you know what? He’s a lot like Stef. When he has a strong opinion or feeling (like the big confession to his parents about his feelings for Callie; aughk I am not looking forward to that; that conversation gives me the hives) he just blurts it out and doesn’t care. And then later, he acts all gentle and soft… Dang. Yeah, they’re definitely related.
