Happy Birthday Four~
Red tackled Vio one specific day, grinning. "What?" Vio yelped, and dropped his book on the floor.
"It's our birthday! It's our birthday!" Red cheered, bouncing up and down happily.
Vio took a few moments to register what the red link had said before his face relaxed and he gave a small smile. "We'll have to have a party then." He leaned down and picked up his book, looked at it and then gently put it back on a shelf.
Red gasped excitedly. "I'll go tell everyone!"
Vio nodded and then pulled out a book. The title was gold and glimmered in the violet link's hands. It read 'Hylian Birthday Parties and What You Need To Know About Them.'
Red galloped away while Vio slowly sat down and began to take in some of the book's information.
----
"BLUE!"
"WHAT?!" Blue jerked around, a scowl on his face.
He saw Red and softened. "What?" He repeated, his tone a little softer this time.
"It's our birthday! Vio said we get to have a party!" Red threw his hand around Blue's shoulder.
Blue's eyes flickered with surprise. "Really?"
"Yeah! I'm gonna go tell Green now!" Red dashed away in the blink of an eye,
Blue blinked rapidly for a few seconds before a smile crept to his mouth. 'Vio doesn't know what I have up my sleeve.' He thought and started preparing.
___________
Green felt a hand on his shoulder and jumped out of his skin. "Wha..?" He turned around and saw Red standing there with a stupidly wide grin on his face.
Green exchanged a grin in return. "Hey bud, what's up?"
"It's our birthday! Vio said we could have a party! I already told Blue." Red talked so fast it took Green a minute to understand what he was saying.
"You told me last?" Green gasped dramatically.
Red looked sheepish. "Yeah...Should I tell the chain?"
Green acted offended but then answered his question. "I think so. Wind would never forgive us if we didn't tell."
Red giggled and ran off. Green sighed fondly and then went to go see what the violet link was planning.
--------
Red went around the inn and told everyone the plan excitedly. Warriors had ruffled his hair and said "Aw yeah!"
Time had chuckled. "I'm looking forward to it."
Wind had gasped and hugged Red. "Happy Birthday!!!"
Hyrule had stood there for a few seconds before tilting his head a little confused. "What's a birth..day?"
Red had given him a bewildered look before explaining what it meant then Hyrule had shrugged and nodded at least understanding there was a party.
Wild had given him a high-five and promised to make an amazing cake.
Twilight had given him a pat on the head and then grinned wolfishly. "I'll definitely be there."
Legend had teased that there was no such thing as a birthday but Red had given him a pouty look so the veteran agreed to be there.
Sky had also ruffled Red's hair and then gave him a warm smile and then swore on his pinky finger that he would be there.
___________________
Red opened Vio's door to see him and Green chatting amicably and flipping through books. "Hey guys, whatcha doing?"
Vio jumped a little and Green patted the ground in a gesture for Red to come sit. Red obliged and waited patiently for a response. "We're going to hold it at a building somewhere next to the inn." Green started.
Red listened enthusiastically as Green and Vio took turns explaining plans and adding more. In the middle of talking about what to wear, Blue burst in with a competitive grin on his face. He held up a long list that reached to the floor, it had neat handwriting scribbled on it. Green opened his mouth to say something but Blue was faster. "I've got the perfect party planned!" He said breathily.
Once again Green started, but Red didn't notice and interrupted. "How is the list that long?!"
"A master never tells his secrets." Blue huffed.
Vio gritted his teeth. "A master always tells his secrets, you mean. So he can teach his protege."
Blue flushed a little and then turned tomato red. "Vio!"
Vio sighed and crossed his arms. "At least use the expression correctly."
Blue tackled Vio to the ground. Green rolled his eyes and went to intervene. "Why don't you pick a few things that you want from that list and then we'll try to add it to our list?" Red suggested.
Blue paused then mumbled an "Oh."
"Good idea Red." Green praised as Vio rubbed his head and Blue began crossing things out on his list.
Eventually things settled and everything was properly planned and everyone agreed. "Teamwork!" Red cheered and high-fived the group.
"Now let's-"
"Take a break and let us do the rest." A voice called from outside the door.
The door flew open and each one of the chain appeared. Vio and Green exchanged a look, silently talking to each other while Blue grumbled something under his breath. "You've done enough, it's your birthday so you should spend the rest having fun." Warriors demanded.
Twilight yanked the books out of Vio's grasp and put them in a bag. "Hey!" Vio hissed.
Time grabbed the list carefully out of Blue's hands before the blue link realized what was going on. Sky also grabbed Green's list and then left with most of the others leaving Wind there. "Damn.." Green muttered.
"I don't know about you but I'm bored right now." Wind gave a exaggerated yawn.
"Let's go!" Red gestured to all of the links and then they went outside the inn.
"I heard there's a shop that sells cursed things, and I'm not s'pposed to go there but..." Wind's eyes glinted with mischief.
Vio looked interested, so did Blue and Green but probably for different reasons. Red wanted to go and see if there was any fire based weapons there. "Let's go!"
Wind cheered and grabbed Red's hand before leading them to a shop.

Happy birthday, Four!
.
.
.
It was a very ordinary day. Well, so it seemed at first glance.
Vio sat in the library again, once again losing track of time with another book. He was so engrossed in the story that he didn't notice Shadow coming up from behind him.
- SURPRISE! Happy Birthday, Vio! - Shadow sang out in a hug. Vio jerked sharply at the sudden attack, almost dropping his book to the floor.
- Shadow? Uh... Thank you, - Vio said a bit confused, and then looked up fearfully in the next moment
- Wait... Today?! - Vio shouted, jumping up sharply from his seat and, kissing Shadow's cheek hastily, ran off in an unknown direction, leaving Shadow stunned.
...
No one expected it, but Red had been on his toes since early morning. He occupied the kitchen and wouldn't let anyone in, even if they threatened him with a showdown. He had one thing on his agenda, to make something delicious for everyone in honor of their birthdays
"Though I'll know," he thought as he kneaded the dough, "It'll be a surprise for the others. I hope they like it... "
...
That Vio had forgotten about that day was no surprise to anyone, but that Green had forgotten about it.....
Leaping out of his room at twelve o'clock with a hastily put on tunic and sleeping pants, Green, with a rather loud curse, stormed out of the house and, like Vio, disappeared out the door.
...
Blue was probably the calmest of the day. His habit of preparing everything in advance was clearly doing him good, and his knitting skills were helping him a lot. He was ready for the day, and now he just watched the hustle and bustle around him with a slight smirk on his face.
...
-...Where's Vio?
Shadow shrugged his shoulders.
- I last saw him this morning, when he suddenly realized today. - Swaying slightly in his chair, Shadow looked into Green's eyes. - Afterward, he didn't show up and I haven't been able to find him.
Blue chuckled
- I bet he'll show up empty-handed with another apology soon.
- Don't talk about him like that!
- I'm just saying what happens, Red.
- But... - Red started to say, but not being able to defend Vio, he looked down guiltily.
Blue was partially right. Vio appeared, barely catching his breath.
- I'm sorry, I-
- You forgot about our birthday. Vio, do you really think we weren't prepared for this? - Blue made a little playful eye contact. - Don't worry about it.
- We're not offended, Vio. - Green gently placed a hand on his shoulder. - Really.
- Besides, we have cookies! - Red added, to which everyone nodded in sync.
- Everyone's here! - Shadow clapped his hands suddenly and loudly, announcing the start of the family party.
This evening was one of the most enjoyable they had had in a while. One wished it wouldn't stop, but no matter how strong the desire, everything comes to an end.
Wishing each other a good night, they dispersed to their rooms.
Opening the door, Vio smiled slightly.
- Blue...
On the bed was a scarf neatly folded and tied with a ribbon.
(Sorry, it's not so good, but i tried)

"The sun is older now, warmer, and Cichol is older too, but colder."
I wrote a piece about Sothis and Cichol and childhood and faith for last year's Seteth zine! (And I did my own spot art — that's what this is!) At the time, it was the first zine I'd ever participated in, and even if production got complicated, I'm still really happy with the work and it was a lot of fun to work on submissions with friends. 💚💚
I'll drop the link to my fic in the notes. 💚

Part two of Four's Birthday:
Warriors read the list and started scribbling down lists for the chain to use. Time was handed a list that said"
'Places to book'
-The building next door -The restaurant across from here -A few more nights at the inn
Time smiled and patted the captain on the back before going to the door and grasping the door knob. The door swung open on him and his foot caught the door as he stumbled to the floor. Twilight fell on him. Time heard the captain snort. "You okay?"
"Yes." Time answered and gently pushed the rancher off of him.
Twilight was a red mess as he recollected himself, clearly mortified of what just happened. "S-sorry."
Time stifled a laugh and ruffled his protege's hair. That only made Twilight blush harder. Warriors was cackling, so the ranch hand quickly shut the door and took some deep breaths. "What was the rush for pup?" Time asked.
"Well uh...Wild wanted us to get some ingredients for the smith's birthday cake." Twilight said, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
"You got a list?" Time asked.
The rancher pulled out a thin piece of paper with words the old man couldn't read. "Perfect." Time nodded and started walking away.
He could help both the captain and the cook here. Twilight quickly followed. At first they went to a store that sold tabantha wheat and arrows. Twilight took a long time looking at the arrows. "The cub might want these." He murmured.
"We'll keep them in mind." Time said and then paid for the eggs.
Twilight huffed a little and the old man gave him a look. The rancher shrunk and Time sighed, then guided him out. He looked across and saw a store that looked eerie and saw items inside that looked enchanted. He saw a bit of light blue followed by purple, red, a deeper dark blue, and green. He raised his eyebrow. "I'll be right back. Head to that store." Time demanded and pointed to a store that presumably had the rest of the ingredients.
Twilight narrowed his eyes but obliged and left. The old man wandered over and peered inside the window of the shop. He found the colours and the sailor inside, faces sparkling with wonder and mischief. Time sighed and walked inside. "Welcome, welcome, you look like quite the warrior! You must be interested in these items I have! Hm? Yes? Great! Come take a look!" The shopkeeper said, waving his arms.
The sailor and the colours turned around and paled when they saw Time standing there. "Why, thank you." Time said and stepped towards the boys.
"It's uh, it's not what it looks like I swear." Wind tried.
"You boys went in here and didn't invite me?" Time pouted.
The boys took a moment to realize what the old man had just said and brightened. "We're really sorry, we thought you'd be too busy!" Red apologized, genuinely sorry.
"If you get me one good thing from here, and give it to me during the party without getting caught, I won't say a word." Time promised.
They exchanged looks silently.
"I know our ranch hand wouldn't like you here. Neither the captain." Time prodded.
"Okay, okay, fine." Blue grumbled.
"It's a deal." Vio said.
Time smirked and started to walk out the door. "Have fun boys!" He called and walked out.
He saw the rancher walk out of a store and wandered over to him. "What took you so long?" Twilight asked.
"Nothing really. Thought I saw something over there." Time shrugged.
"Well I got the stuff. You coming back with me?"
"No. The captain wanted me to get more stuff done out here."
"'K."
With that, Twilight walked off and Time started away at getting things booked.
________________________________________
"That was a close one!" Wind whispered.
"Honestly wasn't expecting the old man to respond like that." Green whispered back.
"Quit your yapping, we have to get him something if we don't wanna get caught!" Blue said.
"Need help young ones?" The shopkeeper asked, eyes glinting with understanding.
Vio walked over. "Yes. Do you have any-"
"Ah, I know the perfect thing for you! Looking for an item to impress that old man into letting you be here?" The shopkeeper grinned.
"Uh...Yeah." Vio said a bit hesitantly.
"Good, good! I have just the thing for you!" The shopkeeper nearly yelled and then scurried off into a back room.
"Are we sure we can trust this guy?" Blue scowled.
"It's our only choice." Vio shrugged.
A few moments later and the shopkeeper arrived with a bottle that had a...golden bee in it. "Um, excuse me sir, why...?" Red trailed off, his face the pure image of confusion.
"Give me a chance, give me a chance! Ahem. This is a golden bee, when you release it," The shopkeeper made an odd little noise. "It'll help you out! You can catch it again with a bug net, and it'll help you again later! That old man looks like quite the warrior, and if so he'll definitely need this! Monsters don't stand a chance, hehehe." The shopkeeper chuckled.
"How much?" Vio asked.
"Vio!" Green hissed.
"1000 rupees, take it or leave it!" The shopkeeper announced cheerfully.
Everybody froze. "What?! That's a scam!!!" Blue growled.
"It's an item that is very powerful, and can be used again and again! Trust me, if you want to save your old man, this'll work!"
"500 rupees is all we have. You take it, or we won't be buying anything from here." Wind deadpanned.
The shopkeeper frowned and then murmured something under his breath.
"Well?"
"Fine." The shopkeeper relented and handed over the bottle.
The bee buzzed inside. Wind handed over the pouch in exchange. "Aw man, that's all of our rupees!" Red whined.
"It's worth it." Vio sighed and they glanced outside the window to see if any of their comrades were wandering outside.
Thankfully, none of them were so they all sneaked out.
_________________________________
"Thanks Twi." Wild gratefully took the bundle of supplies and began making batter.
"Can I help, cub?" Twilight asked.
"Nope."
"Why?"
"You know what happened last time you tried to help."
Twilight grunted, disappointed. For the next twenty minutes Wild mixed ingredients and worked hard to get the right batter. Twilight sat back and offered to help every couple of minutes, the cook declining each time. "Aw, fuck, I forget something." Wild cursed.
"Language." Twilight reprimanded. "What do you need?"
"Icing, specifically purple, red, blue, and green icing." Wild listed.
"On it." Twilight rushed out the door.
"Hurry!" Wild called even though the rancher was most likely gone already.
Wild was going to make this cake if it was the last thing he did!
_____________
"Where should we go next?" Green asked.
"Hm...I heard there's a cool game you can play over there." Wind suggested, pointing to a booth.
The links rushed over. "Hello kids, looking for some fun?" A man asked.
Wind nodded. Blue growled at being called a kid.
"Perfect! All you have to do to win a prize is shoot the arrows into each target! The only catch, is that you have to get each target all at once!" The man grinned.
"Wha..!" Blue started to protest but the man was already grabbing bows.
The man handed Red three arrows and then helped the red link set up, then Red's fingers released the three arrows and they flew. One of the arrows missed a target though. "Aww." Red pouted and handed the bow to Blue.
Blue gritted his teeth and muttered something about 'this being dumb' before shooting. The arrows all missed. Vio barked out a laugh. "Gimme!" Green demanded as Blue tossed the bow and stormed off.
"It's all in good fun." The man chuckled.
Green hit one of the targets, but the other arrows flew just past. Green huffed and handed the bow to Vio. Vio smirked and-
Got all of the targets...
"Damn it!" Blue scowled.
Vio gained a smug look on his face and handed the bow to the sailor. Wind sighed and fumbled a bit with the bow before aiming and firing. The arrows flew and hit two of the targets but not all three. "Damn how does Wild do this?" Wind wondered.
"Here's your prize, kid." The man handed a pouch full of rupees to Vio, cheerfully.
"M'not a kid." Vio mumbled.
The man ignored him and shooed everyone off, accepting more people to come and try his game.

"Whatcha working on?" Warriors entered Sky and Legend's room.
In the inn, two or three of the chain slept in one room. "A gift. I think they'll like this woodcarving." Sky smiled.
"Shut up, I need focus here!" Legend hissed.
"What needs so much focus that I, the one and only captain, cannot talk?" Warriors grinned.
"Shut. Your. Mouth."
"Fine, fine!"
Sky continued to work at his project, woodcarving something. Legend had his back turned to everyone, and now the captain was quite curious. He carefully leaned over to see the vet knitting, his fingers wrapped around a thread. Warriors smiled at this. Legend looked up a little and his ears turned a little bit more pink, before he curled in on himself and continued knitting, acting like he didn't see the captain. Warriors gave a long sigh. "Well, I'll leave you two here to finish this." And he stepped out of the room.
Then he walked over and bumped into Twilight, which caused red icing to fall on the floor. "Uh, sorry about that." Warriors said sheepishly and began to help the rancher clean up.
"It's okay. Hopefully Wild can still work with this."

@kikker-oma happy belated birthday!!! Sorry it took so long for me to finish this! But I hope it proves worth the wait <333 (Also I hope you don’t mind some whump)
CW for blood and injury, vomiting, a panic attack, and a cave-in (be careful if you’re claustrophobic)
————————————-
In the wake of the explosion, Sky feels nothing. There is a high-pitched ring in his ears, spots in his vision, warm, sticky blood trickling from his nose. But no pain.
Until there is.
It hits like a claymore, cleaving through the half-consciousness he has clung to thus far. And the next thing he knows, he’s jerking upward, gasping. Only, he can’t sit upright at all.
His mind screams the panicked order, his muscles attempt it, but a weak, agonizing twitch is all he manages. Something is holding him down, something massive and heavy. His chest struggles to rise beneath its constant compression.
Sky blinks again, squinting past the tiny eruptions of light and the dust that floats, thick and suffocating in the air around him. There is nothing much to see in the endless darkness. But he can make out jagged shapes, blocky forms, the outlines of sand-covered objects.
Caging him in. Holding him down.
He’s pinned, he realizes with a streak of mind-numbing terror. And suddenly, what little air he had managed to drag in turns to nothing at all. He gasps, eyes blowing wide, as he thrashes.
Or attempts to. All he manages is to bring on a fresh onslaught of dizzying agony. It strikes through to his very bones, sending sharp pricks of static dancing before his eyes and crawling up the back of his head. And for a split second, everything goes a striking shade of black.
Then, he’s breaching the surface once more, too soon, much too soon, skyrocketing back into a world of pain and suffocation.
Sky coughs, choking on blood and tears. He has never really considered himself claustrophobic, but this experience might just change that assumption. Of all the ways to die…
But you’re not, he berates himself. You’re not dead yet, so think, think. Figure out a way to survive.
He can’t reach his pouch. The rubble piled beside him makes certain of that. It presses against him, crushing his side and tugging at the hem of his sailcloth. But if he can move it just a bit…
Trembling hands press to its jagged surface. With a sharp intake of breath, Sky steels himself and pushes.
Something shifts and for a split second, Sky dares to hope that maybe, just maybe he can get free. But then, the rubble on his lower half crawls sideways with the rest. And Sky screams.
The nauseating numbness that had begun to take root vanishes, replaced with the absolute agony that splits through his legs. He turns his head to the side and chokes up bile.
That one moment seems to last forever, pain dancing along his body endlessly. He lies there, limp and gasping, gazing at the blurred splotches his vision has been reduced to. And the waves wash over him, stealing the air from his lungs and turning his thoughts into incomprehensible things.
Needles streak up his neck, bringing with them unnatural heat. His eyelids flutter, eyes preparing to roll back in his head and plunge him back into the painless deep.
“Sky!”
A hand finds his, desperate in the way it grasps at him. Sky inhales sharply, jolting back into some semblance of awareness.
He had thought no other heroes were near the blast. He had thought they were all clear of the area. So, why…
Wait.
Memories crash back into his mind like waves on the sea. Memories of a building crumbling behind him and a boy by his side, running, running away from the collapse, away from certain death. Memories of the fiery knowledge that had situated itself firmly in Sky’s gut, the knowledge that he must protect him, protect the hero who came after him.
Protect the hero who was the first to feel the brunt of his failures, no matter the cost.
His hands fly out on instinct to shove the small figure in front of him through the doorway. Echoes of a terrified voice in his mind as he leaps, meaning to follow, wanting to.
Only for darkness to catch him before he can.
Four. Sky’s breath hitches, a sob of relief and agony catching in his throat. Four is here with him. Four is alive.
And he came back.
“Sky, can you hear me?”
The Skyloftian focuses all his strength. Weakly, he squeezes Four’s hand. The smithy blows out an audible sigh of relief.
“Thank the goddesses. We’re gonna get you free, okay? We just need a minute. If we move anything now…”
Though he trails off, the words left unspoken weigh on the Skyloftian even more heavily than the rubble. He drags in a thin gasp, swallowing against the growing lump in his throat.
“But I need you to stay awake until we can get you out,” Four continues, forcing a lighter tone into his voice. “Can you do that?”
“Yes,” is what Sky means to say. “Hurts,” is the croaked cry that comes out.
Four’s grip tightens. “I know, Sky. I’m-I’m sorry.”
Sky closes his eyes. The darkness there is safer, more comfortable than the dusky dimness floating around him.
“Not your fa-fault.”
“You shouldn’t have pushed me.” The voice is grim and drenched in guilt. Though it aims to sound accusatory, Sky feels that it hardly meets the mark. “‘There was time. We could’ve both gotten out. We could’ve…”
“K-kept you safe.” It is hardly a croak. The word burns in his throat. “Smithy…I w-wanted to…”
He drags his eyes open, stares into the expanse of floating nothingness. He still can’t breathe.
“It’s the least I…could do.”
Four is silent for a long moment. Then, his fingers constrict just slightly. Their warmth is welcome in a world of cold darkness.
“You’re going to get out of there, Sky,” he murmurs and there is something in his tone that Sky cannot identify. Maybe he could if he wasn’t so tired. Far more than usual in fact. This exhaustion drags him down like a leaden weight, pulling at the remaining scraps of consciousness.
“Just hold on,” the smithy says, and Sky pushes back against the endless deep.
Hold on.
He can do that. He can…
“T-tell me about y-your Hyrule,” he croaks.
And Four does. The smithy has many secrets, perhaps, even as much as the old man, and yet, he tells him. Of his grandfather, of Dot, of his home and his world and the tiny creatures known as Minish.
Sky clings to every word that tells him more about the hero who followed after him and the land he fought to protect. He clings to the sound of his voice, the warmth of his fingers, the painting he paints of his life…until his brothers come.
And then, finally, finally, the world is opening back up and the sunlight is streaming in and he can drag in thin gasps of fresh air and…and Four is right there, still holding his hand but gazing down at him now. Concern gleams in his multicolored irises.
Sky offers him a weak smile. “‘M okay now, smithy,” he murmurs, every word agony. “T-thanks for…for staying.”
Four’s face splits into a grin. A teary one, but an expression of joy nonetheless. “I’ll always stay. It’s the least I can do for the person who paved the way.”
There is respect in those words, Sky realizes dimly. Respect and something else…A connection, perhaps, that is stronger even than their bond of brotherhood.
He deserves neither.
But as he lets his eyes slip shut, as the voices of his family swell around him and arms lift him with a gentleness that belies their strength…he is glad to know about their place in the timeline. He understands the look in Time’s eye a little better now, when he gazes upon Twilight.
He is proud of his successor too.
