Inktober: Week 5

Happy Halloween!

"Agree to disagree, we both know who's right"

I thought about what other wacky stuff I could do with the vessel au.

What if Volo became a vessel for Giratina? What if he made himself a vessel on purpose and stole Giratina's power?

Originally the two were cooperating with one another but once Arceus tried to fix everything via a vessel/proxy, Giratina suedo abandoned Volo's plan a little (still mulling over the plot in my head) and left Volo without answers or assistance.

He would feel absolutely cheated. The most damning thing to refute all of his ideals and thoughts that the world was unfair and unjust.

He was abandon by Arceus and the one it outcast from the realms.

He is not the grand hero everyone loves.

He's had no just reason for all the wrong that has happened in his life.

He'd be furious. Insulted. He probably is plotting revenge of both god and vessel.

So if a pokemon won't listen, there are other ways to capture it. The red chain can steal back Giratina and bind it to him, making himself a vessel for a god instead of Gris.

But it doesn't work very well. Giratina's too big, too much for a mortal to house it without consequences. While Gris held off and fought off the possession, Volo foolishly takes on more than he could carry.

He's too blinded by rage, by the need to have victory over Arceus that he doesn't care if it's splitting him apart, or that he'll forever bind Giratina to his body due to the red chain's hold.

If Volo steals Giratina, he would become an imperfect vessel, a violitle bomb ready to lose his mind and tear the world apart.

(also I wanna add design notes so the tendrils are meant to be like tainted angel wings and I took artistic liberty to make the red chain more ribbony to add to the evil devilish flow going on.)

Janine gathers everyone around the stage, wearing a purple ballgown layered with tulle and satin, fabric cutouts resembling a pair of Crobat wings drape her thighs, while another pair are attached to the wrists of her long gloves. Her hair is let down by her shoulders for the occasion, a black cat-eyed mask across her face, while a wide brimmed witch hat with bat wings rests on her head.

"Good afternoon and welcome! We've gotten the results from our public polls finalized, and the winners of each category selected. Before we announce who was selected to move on, I wanted to give a very special thank you to everyone who participated, both contestants and voters alike! This event would not have been possible without your passion and willingness to put yourself out there for the world to see. I can truly say that everyone's costumes were hard to choose a favorite."

"That being said, there must always be winners in competition- but the Friends of Fuchsia want you to know that there are no losers here! All contestants, regardess of their placement will receive the following..."

Janine throws down a smokebomb, filling the air with purple fog and glitter. When the fog clears, upon the stage are pre-wrapped bags of prizes.

"Each contestant will receive a Jack-o-Lantern treat bucket of five thousand Pokédollars and select candies, a Dratini plushie with a special Shiny Molt pattern, five Safari Balls that can be used here or in Johto, hand-carved by our very own Safari Wardens, and two movie ticket vouchers that can be redeemed for any showing!"

She claps, "Prizes were provided by a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous."

Unfolding an envelope, she clears her throat, "Now, without any further ado, let's start with the announcements..."

"Starting with the Beautiful Category, our winner is Celeste! What a stunning transformation! Honorable mentions to Kianga and Riley! I absolutely adored everyone's grace and poise- expect a special gift from me to each of you!"

"Next, we have our Cleverest- Ree! The way you incorporated your chair into your costume was inspired! Honorable mention to the Rat King- closet construction is a skill and one you are not lacking! Again, I'll give you something personal these next few days."

"Award for the Coolest Category goes to Green! What a fantastical display of costumery! Honorable mentions to Allister and Lillie. I thought the use of masks and accessories were inspired! And Lillie, the efforts of you and your partner pokemon were brilliant!"

"Valerie is our winner for Cutest! You don't see vibrant vampires everyday! May- I loved the Dustox Capelet, and the inspiration- way to show the natural cute qualities bugs have! Kotone, I loved you bringing a kind of adorable and whimsical side of Giratina to life in your outfit, that starry texture..."

Janine has to hold herself back from gushing- "Cute" is kind of a big thing for her.

"And last of all- Red is our Champ for Toughest Costume! Lucario Man dispenses justice! Honorable mentions to Hau and Kita! Famous figures of literature each- I wasn't sleeping on your Terror of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman, nor Kita's sickening take on a debutante Red Death!"

I totally don’t have two hyperfixations raging at the same time what are you taking about-

Okay but seriously these two have quite a bit in common so my brain went with clothes swapping them like there are quite a few similarities imo

Spoilers for higurashi and Pokémon legends under the cut

they both are crazy blondes

they have traumatic childhoods (volo is vaguely hinted at having not so good life experiences and Takano experienced major trauma first losing her parents, and experiencing abuse at the orphanage she was at and much more)

End up doing drastic stuff for what their devoted for (in Takano’s case, she extensively studies hinamizawa syndrome for her grandpa and ends up willing to commit mass murder after her research falls through and volo’s obsession over arceus causes him to summon giratina in an attempt to see arceus and rewrite the world)

They seem friendly at the beginning of their respective games but their true nature reveals who they really are

I swear there’s more but my brain forgor. Happy Halloween I guess XD

Stow-on-Side is in full party mode and of course! Not only is it Halloween but it's the gym anniversary of their very own Ghost Expert.

The town is decorated to look like ruins as fog rolls along the ground. Stalls are up and running with spirits and townsfolk alike running them.

And of course the gym is alive and energetic. Spirits flicker in and out of sight as shadows writhe along the floors and walls. The arena and challenge are gone for the day, replaced by more ruins and a maze that leads to an enormous dance floor.

Purple sparks of magic fly across the area and a soft laugh soars through the air like the chime of bells... or maybe even the death knell.

Despite the chaotic sounds surrounding the area, footsteps are heard clearly as a person seemingly fades into view from the fog. Their costume seems to be based off of Giratina with a black and gray gown that's lined with gold and tassels of red. They're wearing a mask shaped in the face of the god of antimatter themselves and hum happily as they tilt their head, raising a sleeve covered hand.

"Welcome to the party, please feel free to enter the maze or take the shortcut to the dance floor. The stalls outside our temple carry many sweet treats and soft items to keep you company. I truly hope you'll enjoy your visit."

With that said, the fog thickens for a moment before fading away, leaving no trace of the speaker.

A chuckle is carried on the breeze

(Over) Analyzing Pokemon Hints (1.5)

A few things have come up. Junichi Masuda has tweeted "Let's do our best this week too", again. Last time it might have had to do with the new Paldean Winds episode. It could also just have to do with the Volcaloid crossover.

I'm wondering if this is at all connected with the Hisuian Typhlosion raid we'll be getting later this week and the new Hisui event we're getting in Pokemon Masters EX tomorrow.

If it is I would be really happy. I'm excited for the Hisui events and in Pokemon Legends Arceus Cyndaquil is my favorite starter and the one I used in my first play through.

It could still just be for Halloween stuff (Typhlosion being part Ghost, the Hisui event possibly involving Giratina a bit more). Craziest would be an announcement for a PLA-related event in the anime, a spin-off web series (I kind of doubt it's either of these, as these would be better suited for a Pokemon Presents), or even getting a trailer for Indigo Disk (which could be connected to PLA).

I find it interesting these are happening in the same week. We also don't know who's getting Hisuian Typhlosion in EX yet, so that could be a surprise announcement.

Regardless of the what the announcement will be I'm just happy there's another Hisui event in EX this month.

Seems the kids got lost in the haunted woods…

Zeki is telling spooky stories to scare Maen while she is just yelling at him to stop it She is totally not afraid what are you talking about haha. Sadi is just done with all of this and wants to go back home already. Sindri is ready to burn Zeki while Comet is trying to tell Zeki to quit scaring Maen. Shadow does not know what to do and is watching it all unfold as their new fluffy friends make quit a ruckus, just look at all the ghost that came to take a look!

(Grimm) "Happy Halloween you filthy animal!" He chuckles to himself. "Such a fun little line quote is it not?" He got the holiday wrong in the quote.. "Here, have an apple!" He gives Pokemon Satan a Caramel Apple.

They eye him warily, head half-turned away when he approaches, and there is no sign of amusement when he speaks. Still, when he offers the little confection it does, admittedly, catch their attention. Mostly out of curiosity and less because they have some sort of sweet tooth.

No one ever really gives them gifts, so they think they should be flattered. It smells pleasant, so unlike the things Giratina usually feeds on.

( People, Pokémon— you get it. )

They sniff at the apple first, then their helm opens up to snap up the apple and swallow it in one gulp.

They don’t say anything, they don’t even offer a “thank you”. Instead, the merely rest their head back on the ground where it was before.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - The Ghost Type

Gosh we're getting so close now. We're at my second favorite type of all, the Ghost type! Probably surprising nobody with that one, given my love for all things Halloween. What better way to appreciate Halloween than with he Halloweeniest type of them all!

Ghost types had a really slow start with me at the beginning. I wasn't too impressed with the Gastly family and Misdreavous didn't make a dent there either. Was Ghost just doomed to little sheet-ghost looking things in various colors? That's a shame, cause Ghost as a conceptual type is really cool. Then Gen 3 happened and my feelings on the type turned around so hard it did like 7 rotations before stopping at a complete 180. We got the absolutely spooky gold that is Banette, and DUSKULL, and freaking SHEDINJA. Then Gen 4 happened and didn't stop there! With the funny but still spooky Drifloon and Rotom, and the big and scary Spritiomb and Giratina to go with em. Then Gen 5! Then Gen 6! Okay, tl;dr, the type's been on the up-and-up ever since that turnaround in Gen 3.

And true to their theme, Ghost types often get the spookiest lore to go with them. Shedinja's back-hole sucking out your soul, Drifloon attempting to abduct children, Phantump's whole thing of being the soul of a child that died in the woods. Yeah, that's right, some of these Ghosts are even the spirits of dead humans! There's something oddly existential about catching a Yamask and learning that it's the ghost of a human being that you're throwing at people's pet dogs and cats to beat them up. Doesn't help the whole image people like to project onto the series of “Pokemon is messed up if you think about it too hard.”

...Huh. This was easier than I thought it'd be. Honestly, it’s just Hoopa and Marshadow that I’m kinda indifferent towards. The rest are just some slightly less cool dudes.

Ghost type is just so spooky, it's gotta have TWO spooky categories.

Weirdest/Most Unique:

Most Inventive Use of the Type:

This one's just hard because most Ghost types are just different kinds of dead things. Shedinja gets a lot of credit NOT JUST for being probably THE most genius design in the whole dex, but also for being the sole animated corpse in the whole Ghost-dex so far. And Blacephalon for getting the “spooky clown” thing done and over with in a way that isn't overbearingly leaning on “haha geddit, cause it's a spooky weird clown?” Phantump, Drifloon, and Pumpkaboo especially are some ghost designs that are just absolutely gorgeous in terms of how effective they are for their simplicity. And Cofagrigus is just a neat way to make a living coffin creature.

The Most Halloweeny:

Now THESE are the Pokemon that make me think of the Halloween season every time I look at em. Happy Halloween!

GHOST TYPE WISHLIST:

NOTE: These Type Wishlists were written out before any news on new Pokemon from Sword and Shield. The Pokemon revealed over time will not affect these wishlists. Just to present them unaltered despite spoilers and in the interest of getting the wishlist out there, and to see which items on said wishlists get fulfilled by Sword and Shield!

A Shadow:

Marshadow and Gengar are fine and all, but they seem to have an overbearing excess of dimensions for what are supposed to be “shadow” monsters. Can you imagine the cool visual of a Ghost type Pokemon that is truly nothing BUT a shadow on the ground? Perhaps even a shadow protruding from its trainer's own shadow when it's sent out in battle?! Sadly, that might be expecting a bit much, hmmm. If we just get a perfectly flat but standing monster, that'd be rad too.

A Skeleton:

C'MON GUYS, skeletons have been memes for like, a whole DECADE at this point, where's our friggin Skelemon?! Duskull is a good temporary make-up but I really just want a Pokemon that is truly nothing BUT a skeleton. It's like, THE thing missing to make any Nightmare Before Christmas parody involving Pokemon perfect, and you're missing the main character here!

A Haunted Suit of Armor:

Perhaps a bit cliched, but it's so cliché at this point that it'd be hilarious if they included a ghost that took control of a human knight's suit of armor. Though if we ever DID get a suit of armor ghostly Pokemon, I feel like its proportions would get messed with to keep it from looking TOTALLY human.

A Zombie:

A direct interpretation of a zombie, I can't say I blame them for not wanting to jump on. If you were to literally animate a corpse in Pokemon, it'd probably feel a little out of place. At least Shedinja has the excuse of the “corpse” just being an insect's shed skin. But there's still so many ways to ELUDE to zombies without making a complete direct reference to them. What about a monster that is little more than a hand erupt from the ground?! Its evolution could be a “living” dirt mound with TWO hands, even!

A Tombstone:

Speaking of dead things, you could TOTALLY get away with an animated spooky tombstone monster! A perfect Rock/Ghost type!

A Vampire:

How do we still have no vampire monster?! Is it because they're too busy making OTHER bats?! Well, I guess that's fair enough. But I still want my vampire bat.

A Ghostly Deep-Sea Dweller:

Any one will do, I'm not gonna be ridiculously picky. Jellicent was a decent enough start but I think for my ideal Water/Ghost type we can go DEEPER. A gulper eel? A tube-eyed fish? A haunting ANGLER fish?!? Yes please!!

A Scarecrow:

Cacturne's got me settled enough to where the lack of one isn't bothering me a ton, but a full-on proper ghostly scarecrow would be killer to have anyway.

A Frankenstein's Monster:

I guess it wouldn't need to be a GHOST type necessarily, I just bring it up here since it fits in with the Halloween theme. Pokemon’s no stranger to having human-like ogreish creatures between ones like Conkeldurr and Machamp, anyway.

A Spooky Playlist

Halloween is soon going to be here in a couple of weeks. Yes, its the time for trick or treating and pumpkin carving and to have fun. It made me wonder about the different kinds of horror music and what makes something scary. Here is my playlist of scary songs and why they are terrifying.

SCARY HOUR - Omar Varela

Just listening to the beginning of the song, you know right off the bat it’s downright creepy. The music starts out slow and softly. It’s like a music box in the beginning of the song. It’s like what you expect it a horror movie. Some slow soothing music comes before something scary happens. In the song, the soothing music is cut off as the sounds of the growling of monsters appear and the beat drops and the electronic music takes over.

What makes it scary is this unexpectedness of the appearance of electronic music. When first listening to the song, you would think that it would remain in the soft, lullaby state as normal scary music does. So when the electronic music suddenly appears, its like the cue for a monster to jump out and chase you. It’s the idea of something unexpected that creates this scariness. It’s just like what horror movies do. They have a monster jump out at you when you least expect it and the song does just that through its own musical tone.

Speaking of horror movies...

The Jaw’s Theme song is the most well known horror music ever created. In fact, the music creation of Jaws is quite fascinating. It was a such an accomplishment back in the day and for good reason.

The song itself sends shivers down your spine. Everytime you hear this music, you associate it with the Great White Shark. You can imagine it circling around in the low notes of the song and you can imagine it attacking you in the high notes of the song. It’s so iconic and yet it is so terrifying. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise to find out people didn’t go swimming ever since watching Jaws.

The last three songs come from a horror source you might not have thought of:

POKEMON

Yeah, that right. Pokemon can have scary music and it was designed for kids.

OLD Chateau (Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl and Pokemon Platinum)

I remember when I used to play Pokemon Pearl when I was a kid. There was a specific event in the game where you could catch a rare pokemon called Rotom and you could only catch it at a place called the Old Chateau at 12 midnight. So naturally, I did just that. I thought that it wouldn’t be so bad.

Big mistake.

As soon as I entered the haunted area, the music sent chills up my spine almost immediately. It made the message clear to me: “Get Out. You do not belong here.” I should have took the music as a warning and just get out of there, but I didn’t. I still wanted to catch that Rotom and so I went deeper inside the area. That when I saw the human ghosts of a butler and a little girl and I freaked out. I shut off my DS so fast and went to bed and hid under the covers. That’s how terrified I was.

Even going back to it now, the music still terrifies me. It always gives the feeling that something (or someone) is watching you.

STRANGE HOUSE (Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2)

What makes this song even scarier is that if you actually play the game, you can hear the furniture in the haunted house moving.

What makes this music scary? You can feel the tragedy in the music. The little ghost girl in this house does have a tragic backstory, but you don’t even need to know what happened. The lonely piano keys that play amidst the unsettling music gives the indication that something bad happened.

GIRATINA’S THEME (Pokemon Platinum)

This theme. This theme is the literal embodiment of chaos. Giratina is one of the scariest pokemon to encounter. It’s a Ghost/Dragon type pokemon and it’s a legendary. This thing is super strong and dangerous. It’s aggressive as indicated by its backstory. His music tells you how scary this guy is.

Everything about his music screams just one word: RUN. The clash of fear and insanity blend together into a mixture of despair. Just when you think things are settling down, you hear a heart moniter beeping. That’s right. A heart monitor going flat. Maybe it’s your own heart stopping after seeing how terrifying this thing is. Then the chaotic music comes back again. It’s almost as though Giratina himself is chasing you.

This music is scary in that it sounds like you are being chased. You can’t think. You can only run and hope to avoid getting caught even if you know it’s too late.

(Fun Fact: There are even rumors that Giratina is the Pokemon’s version of the Devil. Creepy.)

Just like with any art, each of these scary songs have their own way of creating fear into you. Some songs give you a sense of uncertainty. Some instill a sense of tragedy or sadness. Regardless of which method is used, scary music have ways of instilling the art of fear inside of you and you can be sure it will haunt you for a long time.

Something for Halloween - Pokemon 3 The Movie: Spell of the Unown

I gave up on Inktober because of work at university, but I wanted to do a few spooky pictures for Halloween. My family doesn’t celebrate it really (and neither do I feel like trick or treating or partying), but I do like the atmosphere and intrigue behind it all.

This movie gave me the creeps as a child. Always been disturbed by it and have thus never really watched it more than a few times, compared to the First Movie (or Giratina and the Sky Warrior *shameless*).

I can’t really pinpoint why, but I suppose that’s what makes something scary in the first place - ambiguity.

Didn’t quite manage to get what was inside my head down on the paper but I wanted to make sure I didn’t over-ink like I usually do. I would’ve sat down and shaded every hair and would’ve made it worse. Simple’s usually best in that scenario!

Anyway, have a Happy Halloween, everybody! :)

🍦 what is one treasured childhood memory? i have one specific memory of like a day when i was out sailing with my parents and i remember after the day in the living room i was like laying on my dad’s stomach (i was super super young) and i told him “this was such a great day i’m never going to forget it!!” and he laughed and said i probably would bc i was so young but i still remember it and esp the promise so idk that makes me happy
