Y/N is sitting in her high chair and waiting for Tom to finish cutting up her fruit. Y/N lets out a small whine as Tom takes forever.

"It's getting there. Almost done, love." Tom assures. He cuts the last of the banana up and puts it in the bowl where blueberries and strawberry slices already are.

"Here you go." Tom gives his baby sister the plastic bowl full of fruit and her sippy cup of milk. She grins, letting a small giggle out as she grabs a banana slice.

Tom smiles softly and Nikki and the twins return home from shopping.

"Getting her fed?" Nikki asks.

"Yep. Her little fruit obsession is being fulfilled." Tom says making Nikki laugh.

"Sam."

"Yeah?" Sam turns to his sister before freezing.

"Wh-- she-- she just said my name." Sam realizes.

"Her first ever word." Nikki gasps, walking over to her baby. "Oh, my God, baby, you talked!"

"Sam!" Y/N holds her hand out to her brother.

"Why does he get his name first?" Tom frowns.

"I'm holding this over you two and Paddy for the rest of our lives." Sam grins before rushing to his sister.

To be honest it's not that I don't want to write because I've been dying to but for some reason inspiration just doesn't seem to come, but this request made me weak and awakened my mind a bit so I hope you enjoy it <3

summary: the tragic chains of events before Luca Verstappen started feeling terrible. (dad!Max)

Mila & Luca Verstappen, age 6. Zandvoort.

Max warned Luca about the incoming rain the moment he noticed him shrugging off the official Red Bull rain jacket, favoring the tailored track jacket from the Dutch GP collection with his last name and dad’s number on the back, but of course his carbon copy complained, retaliating with things he learned in school, usually when it rains there’s clouds and it’s cold, and right now Luca Verstappen was seeing with his own two blue eyes the sun shining outside.

He repeated the same explanation when you told him he needed to wear his jacket.

“Your dad lived here, he knows the weather. Listen to him and out on the jacket,” you dictated before fixing Mila’s hair under her special Dutch GP cap.

Max shrugged before facing Luca, “You listened to mama, jacket it is! And I can’t be late so hurry up,” Luca huffed while grabbing and putting on the Red Bull jacket.

It seemed as if everyone was waiting for Max’s arrival to the track because the flashes were blinding, the tens listening to their papa when he told them to cover their faces. Knowing you wouldn’t be seeing much of Max today and taking advantage on the twins covered eyes you decided to leave a kiss on his lips, whispering congratulations on his full lips.

You grabbed the twins hands as Max made sure the cap covered most of Mila’s face and only showed part of her curls, but of course Luca still wasn’t convinced with the jacket.

“Papa, it itches,” Luca complained and you could still listen to the flashes and screams of your family surname.

“It’s a rain jacket, Luca. It’s not it itchy, and I am not requesting you to put it on, I am telling you to do it or I am going to do it,” Max never needed to change his voice or posture when reprimanding the kids, but usually his choice of words were enough to command the twins to comply.

That’s how you ended up in the Red Bull hospitality, with Luca running his hands through his hair after taking off the infamous jacket and letting the smell of caramel fill his nostrils.

Soon enough, stroopwafels were being served to the attendees, and especially everyone offering one to the Verstappen twins walking hand in hand, always supervised by you, or their grandmother, or their great grandmother.

"Mila, you can't say no to a stroopwafel," Luca told his sister showing off his dutch, especially since their Oma and super Oma were limiting English while in Holland.

"I am full so I am not accepting more food, Luca," Mila informed his brother as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"If you don't want them, give them to me,"

That was the first thing that went wrong.

The second one was when everybody was focused on the final laps before the red flag, your eyes glued to the screen and ears fully focused on Max’s radio. The perfect moment for Luca to take off the obnoxious jacket.

Thats when everything went wrong.

Max and you were woken up at the same time; head pounding from the celebrations and clothes thrown somewhere on the floor, but it didn't stop you from hearing your son crying while throwing up, waking his sister up in the process.

"Sweetheart, get dressed oh my God," Max said throwing you one of his shirts as he put on his discarded boxers before making your way to the twins bathroom.

You stayed with Mila, calming her down and assuring her nothing was wrong and his brother probably ate something and his body was reacting, while closely listening to Max comforting Luca trying to assure him he was going to feel better eventually.

You thought that was it, but of course it wasn't, because now neither you nor Max were sure of the headache was because of the adrenaline, the drinks or the lack of sleep from Luca's constant vomiting.

Gross.

But that was how you learned that it wasn't just the stroopwafels. The small version of Max Verstappen had a severe case of sweet tooth and didn't deny himself the flavors from his country with fresh poffertjes, a couple of pannenkoeken with sweet toppings, were on the top of Mila's head as you tried to understand how a six year old managed to fit so much food on his stomach.

Then came the fever and the dull pain in his ears.

The first thing you managed was to go back to Monte Carlo, at least that way he’d be sick on his own room and own place, where the older and more tired Jim and Sass would fall asleep on the feet of his bed.

For some miracle, the twins had managed to fall asleep during the short flight, allowing you to snuggle into Max’s side, who pulled a thick blanket on top to cover both your bodies, resting his head on top of yours while he enjoyed the relaxed motion of your fingertips drawing shapes on his shoulder.

“Max?” You softly pronounced his name, he softly groaned in acknowledgement. “When did we decide to have children?” You asked and Max laughed with his eyes closed.

He opened his blue eyes and left a kiss on you lips before he started falling asleep again, mumbling that maybe you two weren’t the best with decision making.

“Do you think we should leave M with the sitter and bring Luca to the ER?” Max questioned, this time it wasn’t your playful husband, it was the worried dad, the one who decided to leave his home celebrations, enjoying being the home hero with his entire family, the well deserved late nights partying after equaling Sebastian’s record.

“I’ll call the doctor but don’t worry, you have a couple of days to rest before Monza, and we weren’t even supposed to come back home so just enjoy the quiet days,” you kissed his temple. “Are you sure you don’t want to go back to Holland? You know I’ll manage with the kids,”

“Don’t even say that again, i’m sorry I didn’t keep an eye on him, he didn’t listen to me and didn’t use the fucking jacket and then ate his entire weight on sugar,” Max sounded truly disappointed in himself.

“Are you going to make me tell you that you were working and barely had a moment to take a breath? Don’t be stupid, honey,” you said and Max smiled.

“I love it when you tell me off but call me honey,” He dedicated you his best sleepy smile.

A car was waiting for you in Nice to take you home, Max getting ahead of you and calling the twins doctor, and of course as soon as he saw the pale looks of the usually flushed Luca, his droopy eyes and constant shivering, he gave him some medication and gave the very stern order: no flying for Luca Verstappen until his ear infection was gone, meaning the plans for your family to go to Monza were postponed until further notice.

Little did you know that Mila was already plotting the tears to attend Monza, regardless of his brother’s illness.

Y/N is asleep in Tom's bed, the four year old having been extra clingy since he got home from filming yesterday after a few months of being away.

Tom lets out a quiet groan and rubs his eyes as he wakes up. He looks over, seeing Y/N sprawled out on the bed, her curls all over the place, making him softly laugh. Tom lightly rubs her back, the girl soon waking up from the soothing motion.

Y/N clumsily manages to sit up, looking around to notice her surroundings, taking in the sight of Tom's room.

"Hi." Y/N mumbles.

"Hi, love." Tom mutters back, his voice full of sleep.

"I waked up." Y/N says.

"I see that." Tom chuckles. Y/N softly smiles, patting Tom's cheek repeatedly.

"I hungwy." Y/N tells him.

"You and me both, darling." Tom tells her. Y/N moves and sits on his chest, her legs on either side of him, and she lightly drums her small hands against his chest.

"You're a little cutie, you know that?" Tom says, gently squishing Y/N's cheeks together. The adorable grin he loves makes its way onto Y/N's face, a small giggle escaping her.

"You're my favorite brother." Y/N tells him.

"I am?" Tom dramatically gasps, earning a nod from Y/N. "Well, you wanna know something?" He asks making Y/N nod again. Tom pulls her closer so their faces her a few inches apart. "You're my favorite sibling." He whispers like it's a secret. Y/N grins.

"Just don't tell the others." Tom tells her and Y/N nods, giggling. Tom softly smiles and brushes her cheek and then her chin with his pointer finger, the girl accepting the physical affection.

"Food." Y/N says.

"Right. Yes. Food. If we're lucky, maybe mummy cooked something." Tom says, getting up and holding Y/N.

"Like eggies?" Y/N hopefully asks.

"I hope so. Eggies sound good." Tom says.

What A Year! 2022 in review - Part 2

But really this year is about 2 novels.

The Mercies by Kieran Millwood Hargrave. Oh dear god. I fell in love, with them, their friendship, the longing, the feeling of otherness. But I had to hc an epilogue to the ending because I could not, would not let it end there! I need more wlw stories, I didn’t know it before but I need more. A reoccurring theme this year see Part 1 post about ALOTO with which the book has something parallels in theme and in the hold it has on me, ALOTO has a much tighter grip but it’s almost like The Mercies gave me an entrée and ALOTO was the main course.

Sistersong by Lucy Holland narrated by Robyn Holdaway. I don’t know what I expected but this was certainly not it, highly recommend not looking up the folk ballad it is based on or reading anything other than the blurb. I specifically highlighted the narrator because this book was truly elevated by narration. She gave each of the 3 siblings (protagonists) distinct voices that I could recognise immediately upon chapter change and thus narrator change, I could tell which of the character was speaking just from her saying the word chapter. There are a few songs that Robyn sings in the book include incredibly emotional and pivotal songs. The singing during that scene was the very definition of transformative.

Lego

Lego once again doing the heavy lifting to keep me sane helping me in my depressive slumps. Set building helps ground me and get though bad times but the creative outlet when I am feeling it is so satisfying.

I built a really cool moc (my own creation) Disney Princess castle. In its 3rd iteration it has taken a while to build and it still needs an interior and I have a planned extension using a new set.

My Halloween layout gets a another October’s worth of work. Most of the work was on trees and plants adding the much needed foliage. I finally get a UV torch (flashlight) showing off the cool trans-neon and glow in the dark parts which I spend the last few days adding.

For the Winter Village layout I’m building a mountain for the North Pole sets to separate them and add height. It joins a frozen lake and smaller mountain section with ski lift I built last time.

Trips

My younger sister (who lives in Perth, Western Australia with her boyfriend) came to home to Queensland in mid Nov 2021 for Christmas. They got stuck here with Covid lockdowns and extended their stay by a month. The spent that extra time with her partner’s family. We go on a short trip in early Feb a few hours south to where they live before my sister and her partner go back home to Perth. Always good to catch up, and pro tip if you ever want to fill in time but don’t know what to do just drive up the nearest mountain 😆 it was a highlight of the trip.

I see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in March fucking finally! Rescheduled multiple times due to the pandemic, we finally make it to Melbourne to see Cursed Child. I loved it, I don’t care what anyone says I loved it. Evidently Daniel Radcliffe once stayed at the hotel we were at, I notice his name on list of famous guest just next the elevator when we come back from Part 1, mind you this was like the fifth time I saw this list looking at the names in passing each time. The Melbourne museum was wonderful with many exhibits but was also confronting with a large section on Invasion and the local Aboriginal mob. Highly recommend going we actually have an insane flight home, we left at 7pm from Brisbane (our layover) a 1.5 hour flight home but a really big and powerful electrical storm quickly covered most of Tropical North QLD. We spent time trying to land at airports an 1 hour north of home and anywhere in between there and Brisbane. We had to turn around and fly back to Brissie and landed near midnight. There was only a skeleton crew at the airport, we were put up in a hotel and arranged rebooking a flight for the morning. We didn’t get to the hotel until after 1.

In mid August we go to Brisbane to see R+H Cinderella, I loved it - Ainsley Melham 🥰 (Saw him as Aladdin) as Topher and Shubshri Kandish (who played Jasmine later on in the production) as Ella were both amazing and the step-sisters were so funny, I wish they had made an Aus cast recording because I really love Ainsley. I so glad we went even though I ended up missing out on Mary Poppins a few months later because we went in August. We get to go to a Disney Animation exhibit at the QLD museum 😁 sooo good, they have cells, sketches, concepts art there was so many amazing artworks. The QLD museum has changed a lot since I last went so we also saw the rest of the exhibits.

We see Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah they were awesome but boy was it a lot of walking. The aquarium was nice, I love rays, but I prefer the Sydney aquarium. Brickman’s Jurassic World Exhibition was so cool, the life sized dinos built out of Lego was amazing, and the smaller Minifig scale stuff was inspiring. The Museum had reopened after a big renovation (it was closed when we first went to Perth years ago), the displays were really well done. The last thing for the trip was going to a petting zoo with bunny (they are banned in Queensland due to being a pest), would not recommend the place it was terrible conditions for the animals. All in all a great family holiday.

Y/n was sitting in her room playing with her dolls, she had been playing for over an hour now. She picked out cute outfits for each doll, trying to find the best one for her most favourite one. She was very occupied, focusing on nothing but her toys. Well that was until she heard voices from downstairs. Normally she would ignore them and continue to play, however she heard a certain voice that made her sprint down the stairs.

Y/n’s little feet ran down the stairs, carful not to fall over whilst doing so. She knew that voice very well, it being from a person she grew very close with that no one had expected. “Hwrrison!” She shouted, the male being in her full view now as he took his coat off, hanging it up.

Harrison eyes moved over to the young holland that adored him the most. He bent down his arms opening wide. “Y/nnn!” He said in the exact same excited tone that she used.

Once she crashed into his arms he picked her up, spinning her around making the five year old giggle. Y/n cuddled into him, wrapping her tiny legs around his body. “I missed you” She said like she usually would. Y/n would always miss Harrison, she would ask about him all the time to Tom or the other brothers.

“I missed you to my favourite Holland” he placed her down on the floor so he could greet the others, but she wouldn’t let go.

“Oi I heard that!” Harry said walking into the room with Tom who followed behind him. “Y/n let go of him so I can say hi at least” Tom chuckles as his little sister let go of his best friend, him greeting with a bro hug. Tom always wondered when her obsession with Harrison had happened, he even wondered why. Ever since y/n could talk or walk she always went to Harrison loving him more than her actual brothers.

“Hwrrison, I went on my bike ywsterday!” Y/n happily said, jumping up and down.

“Did you?!” Harrison said excited.

“Yes and Tommy helped me to pedal, he taught me what to do” You smiled at Tom. “Wow, that’s so cool. You need to show me one day” Harrison said walking into the kitchen following Tom who pulled out two beers and a juice for y/n.

They both moved into the living room, starting a conversation up as y/n quickly ran up the stairs, coming back down with her favourite blanket. She saw Harrison sitting directly across from Tom, so she climbed up onto the same sofa as him and snuggled into him with her blanket.

“Don’t you wanna cuddle with me?” Tom asked, jealousy bubbling up inside him.

“No, I want Hwrrison” She adverted her eyes to the tv, watching the program that was left on from earlier.

Y/n and the boys stayed in their potions, Harrison’s arm around the girl letting her snuggle into him. This wasn’t new to Harrison, no, he actually fount it quite cute the way his best friends sister would act around him. The way she would always call him off Toms phone or the way she would kiss his cheek when she said goodbye or even when she would help him play fight with the boys.

“Harrison shut up you div” Sam laughed, slapping the boy on the arm. It was later on and the boys were still drinking, just talking about random things with light music in the background.

“Hey! Dwnt hit him!” Y/n snapped suddenly, feeling the need to protect him. She rubbed his arm, which didn’t hurt at all, glaring at Sam who looked at her with certain eyes. “You okay?” The five year old turned her gaze to Haz.

All the boys were too confused to speak. Y/n had always hated it when the boys would joke around with Harrison, being mean to him even though he didn’t mind it as he did it back. Harrison just nodded his head, “I’m fine don’t worry” He smiled at the girl who nodded her head.

“Someone protective” Tom chuckles as Y/n kisses where Sam hit Haz’s arm.

“More like someone has a crush” Harry joined in, laughing at his little sister. He knew it was more than just being obsessed with him, she had to have a crush on him no?

“Watch this, Harrison your so ugly!” Harry joked watching the girls face twitch. “Harrison actually stinks, ewww” Tom laughed and Harrison hid his laugh as the girl sprung up.

“No he not! Your so rude, mummy said you should never say that to anywne! Haz is not ugly, he pretty. And smwll nicely” The girl smelt Harrison, earning a small chuckle from him. Y/n stood up walking over to Harry and Tom. “Your ugly and you stink, not him” She said angrily.

Harrison smirked, “Yeah your ugly and stink” He stuck his tongue out copying the little girls actions. Y/n walked back over to Harrison sitting in his lap to hug him, she kissed his cheek twice before looking at him. “Your pretty Hwrrison” She honestly said.

Harrison kissed her cheek, “Aww, your pretty too y/n” This made the little girl blush, getting off Harrison and giggling, hiding her face in her blanket.

“Y/n has a crush on Harrison!” Sam cheered.

Y/n hid her face in her blanket more embarrassed. She never thought of Harrison like a brother she always liked him, she wouldn’t let anyone be rude to him. “Shut up” The young holland said still hiding her face.

“It’s okay y/n. Sam is just stinks like feet” Harrison laughed and so did she.

“Well Harrison doesn’t shower” Sam called taking a swing of his beer, regretting after as his younger sister got off the sofa mad.

“YES HE DOES!” Y/n shouts bolting to her brother to attack him.

also, i never stated how old she is, so technically she can be any age, but she is younger than the twins!

you were lucky enough to go to a red carpet to support tom and be there for him. sam, harry, and your mom nikki was there too. dom couldn’t make it because he had a gig back home in london, and paddy had stayed back with him because he had a game. either way, you knew they would’ve been there had he had an opening in his busy schedule. this was the first one you’ve been to, not wanting to go to the others due to your anxiety. tom had promised that this one was going to be smaller and better executed, so you trusted him. after all, you couldn’t pass up an opportunity to support your big brother. the event wasn’t as small as tom or you had anticipated, but in tom’s defence, premieres were typically much much larger than what you were about to experience.

the dress you wore made you feel absolutely gorgeous, the dusty rose colour complimenting your skin perfectly. the black heels ensured that the attention was focused on your dress. once all of you were ready, you all headed towards the carpet. tom had a special entrance so he followed his publicist while you stayed with your brothers.

“are you gonna be okay today?” sam asked you. he always looked after you, though they all did since you were the only girl out of the five of you, he always had a special soft spot for his baby sister. sam could tell without even asking that you were getting anxious already. harry came up to the two of you. trying to comfort you without saying anything, he took your hand in his.

“i think i’ll be fine.” you didn’t know whether or not you were gonna be okay. your hands were already starting to shake, but other than that you were fine. you looked at harry, and he gave you a gentle, comforting smile. he could feel that you were lying, but he didn’t say much. harry eventually had to go since he was tom’s videographer, but before he left he gave you a quick side hug and said that he’d see you later.

sam, you, harrison, tuwaine and nikki walked onto the carpet behind the press. sam had a protective arm around you. eventually the carpet started getting more and more hectic as the actors started to walk onto it and pose. you felt the shaking get worse, and you started spacing out, focusing on how crowded everything was. your breathing became more and more shallow. harry had found you guys again and noticed that you were getting more anxious.

you started searching around for a way out. not wanting to make a scene, sam tried to hug you in order to help calm you down. nothing seemed to help. you had to get out of there before you started crying. you gently pushed sam away, and he gave you a sympathetic look.

“where’s the easiest way out?” he asked harry. harry looked around, shrugging afterwards.

“there’s no easy way out everybody’s everywhere!” harry made eye contact with you, and saw that your eyes were starting to well up with tears. “sam, she’s got to go now,” harry demanded.

you looked around and somehow caught tom’s eye. he saw the tears welling up in your eyes, the way your hands were shaking, and the way that you were finding it hard to breathe. he excused himself from the interview, not really caring about anything but having to take care of you.

“come here darling, let’s get you out of here,” tom said as soon as he found you. he told the twins to stay with their mom and friends, then putting his arm around you and somehow clearing a path to a more secluded area past the press. “look at me.” you looked into his eyes, and he wiped away the stray tears that had fallen.

“tom, i-i’m sorry,” you said through staggered breaths. “i ruined your premiere.” more tears started to fall, and you struggled to catch your breath.

“breathe with me okay?” he led you through a breathing exercise that he knew calmed you down, and as you started to breathe deeply he started to relax as well. “come here,” he said, then pulled you into a hug. “you could never ruin anything for me. as long as you’re okay, i’m okay. i wanted to get out of that interview anyways if i’m being honest.” tom went on to talk about the interview, trying to distract you from your anxiety attack. he rubbed your back softly and when you pulled away from him he smiled.

“thank you, i really mean it.” he didn’t have to lead you out of there, but he did. he didn’t have to leave that interview, but he did. his smile morphed into a sly one, and you knew he was about to say something stupid.

“now can you admit i’m the best brother?” you rolled your eyes at him.

“way to ruin the moment you div.”
