i just love link so much. no matter the game. the courage he always presents, no matter how young or old he is

how he’s knocked out in the ordon spring and wakes up to ilia and colin both gone, and he immediately sprints, unarmed, into faron. he’s then met with the wall of twiligt, turns into a wolf, is imprisoned, and is thrown into everything he never imagined, and yet he takes it all in stride and never stops looking for the kids and saving hyrule. the little town farmer. goat herder. faux big brother. all of that turned a boy who fought a resurrected skeleton, mastered a city in the sky, defeated the king of another dimension, and sealed away the demon king with a sword through the abdomen

the little kid from kokiri. the boy without a fairy. showing up to mido and learning of his path via the deku tree. taking on the parasite of a big fish and beating a huge dodongo in the depths of a volcano. going on to jump in time seven years, realizing ganondorf wreaked havoc on the world because of it, and working to reseal him.

the school age kid in the sky. who flew birds as a living and was in love with his friend. who saw her get swept away right in front of him and took no hesitation to get to the ground and search for her. who went through the silent realm time after time. who passed through time and fought a creature like ghirahim and eventually demise to save zelda and skyloft / hyrule

the big brother and grandson who lived peacefully on an island with his baby sister and grandmother. who just… hung out. Whose sister was kidnapped and he didn’t waste a second to get on the pirate’s ship to find out where she was taken. his whole determination came from needing to save her. and even when she was, he kept on. killing the helmaroc king and going on to try and kill ganondorf, only to be brought down into hyrule and learn of tetra’s identity, and his own. who, at his young age, put the master sword through ganondorf’s head and turned him to stone

the boy who grew up as seemingly more outspoken, especially around mipha. but he became zelda’s knight, whose goal was to protect her with his life. the thing he took most seriously. the kid who stood up between zelda and multiple guardians, even as he was on the brink of death. the boy who was willing, after getting his arm covered in malice, to dive into nothingness to grab zelda’s hand in an attempt to save her life, not knowing what could greet them at the bottom. who does succeed at grabbing her hand and saving her by the end. who carried her out of the water and continued being what he did best: be her knight

he is just. no matter the game. a little, innocent kid, sometimes not even knowing the part he really plays in the world. and for something to happen; his sister, the love of his life, fellow kids who were his family, he rushes into the face of danger to save them.

Considering the fact that shes been bothered by all sorts of things since shes entered this inky hell,I think it's safe to say she would be somewhat surprised apon initially finding you

That's until she finds out that you can interact with people through their shadows

Shes honestly terrified once she finds you practically playing ping pong with some stray searchers

The ink around the place dosnt help,it becomes harder to locate you when your against a almost pitch black surface

Once befriended you though all the things that were a issue before became an uperhand

If shes ever in trouble,should a searcher get to close you can pull it back and just hold it there

She finds it funny when you hold one back and it has no idea what tf is going on

After friending you she finds your powers cool and not as terrifying

You can create little puppet shows for her and manipulate shadows to dance and do stuff

Audrey finds you a massive help when navigating through the place

When she manages to escape you bet shes taking you with her

Once in the real world you can have alot more freedom and it's easier to find you now that the hallways have colour.

Bendy

He knows of all the weird creatures that live in the studio,its his realm

Yet he hadnt seen you before

A shadow,that can manipulate living matter by using their shadows?

How interesting

Would probally take a similar approach with you like he did with audrey

If your even made out of ink

He likes to watch when you mess around with people's shadows,tripping up searchers and fucking around with the lost souls

If you ever manage to trip up Wilson you'll definatly get on bendys "do not kill yet"list

He dosnt know how you can even exist because your literally a shadow,do you perhaps have a seperate body somewhere in the studio?perhaps only your shadow appears

He trys to find a logical explanation but cant so he kinda just goes "well if you dont help Wilson or audrey then u stay away"

He dosnt care about you if your not a threat,hes annoyed he cant talk telepathicly or controll u though

Once he bonds with you though you can be a pretty nasty duo

If anybody tries to run away I dont think theyll get very far,

The studio is abit slippery today,or maybe it's the fact that you tripped them over

Well either way they fell head over heels,just like bendy did for you

Anyways,intruders dont get far as you drag them to wherever the ink demon is to take care of them

If you play with his shadow he will get annoyed so dont do that

Shes been around the studio for God knows how long,so of course she knows about the things the ink creates

However she had never seen a being quiet like you

Shes not bothered by you until you pull on her arm and mess with her,she thinks it's a lurcher trying to annoy her at first until she comes to the realization that shes alone

After that she dosnt like to see you

She thinks that your always gonna pull on her hair or something and since your a shadow she cant do anything,so she just leaves,not being bothered to deal with you when more important matters are at hand

She eventually talk to you when your both in the same room,although the conversation starts out rough,she dosnt like being messed with,especially when she cant do anything to stop it

After eventually getting over her grudge she speaks to you...passively?

Eventually a friendship starts to bloom though

Theres a very high chance you could bond over a common hatred for the ink demon

Definatly asks if you can fuck around with audrey and Wilson

You can both be quite scary when in the same room,especially if one of them has something against you

Allison

Shes a survivor,she knows the things that lurk in the shadows of the ink but shes also not afraid to stand her ground against them

Once coming across you,allison will immidatly deem you as a threat,nothing is as it seems in the studio

When she finds out that you can move people through their shadows etc,shes not surprised,like mentioned previously,the things in this realm are made to deceive you

If you become troublesome for her and Tom then she will light candles everywhere or choose lit up areas,only venturing into dim ones when shes sure your not lurking around a corner

Once she somewhat friends you,you can be a massive help,she found out that you can also interact with stuff like bacon soup,so sometimes you go out getting supplies so they dont get injured by the ink demon or anything

Tom warms up to you surprisingly quick(its because you spoil him)

She does eventually admit that maybe she judged you to hard to being with

Carley

Considering the fact that shes a ghost aswell she'd be very intrigued by a shadow like you

Shes probally the only one on this list who isnt surprised that you can interact with peoples shadows,shes just not that surprised anymore

That's not to say she isnt impressed

She cant really "interact" with the living

Although she can scare people,moving things etc isnt really her forte

You two get along amazingly almost immediately

Its probally due to the fact that you both dont have a physicall body

The two of you could probally cause most people a heart attack

Both of you are very annoying towards audrey

And no audrey will get no breaks from your antics

You both mess around with the butcher gang alot alswell,one time accidentally causing a fight to break out amongst themselves

Wilson gets alot of problems from the both of you

i think the theme of agency in fire emblem awakening is fascinating to examine. both like in game and meta. and also kiran.

we have grima, a creature who wasn't given much agency and never realized they actually had any despite being reborn time and time again. each time they were needed it's because some extremist wanted their power to smite another party, not so much that grima was ever valued as, idk, a person.

and that extremist and the cult around grima are attached to an idea of grima. feeding grima both the ritual tools and the justification of their existence externally. "its the world that wants me to be evil" is both telling and and an indicator of how pathetic their willpower is.

(although granted, having enough experience of being knocked on one's ass will sap away determination fast.)

contrast with robin who was given the amnesia zap and then had the opposite happen. not force fed a a justification for existence externally, but having to internalize their own justification, needs and want. encountering people and events certainly would feed into this internal reflection. the environment is not a strings-attached transactional one.

and at the ending of awakening theres a mini thing of, now that robin has gotten their Self from internalization, do they let chrom take their agency away again, and inevitably let the agency cycle repeat itself? or does robin decide to exercise that agency and pull off the ultimate sacrifice bc they feel so strongly about the future of their friends and even a world they might just finally start to like a little?

and yet at the same time, ironically, robin is a character of a video game. the choices made are railroaded by the devs and then exercised by the player. we players are always playing something akin to an illusion of choice, there the ultimate choice is really no choice at all. there is an agreed upon satisfying ending and a unsatisfying ending, ie good and bad ending.

so under this meta lens, the choice robin enacts is the choice of a 3rd party outside of the universe.

ironic

and then the same agency issue seems to be happening again in heroes. the summoner, kiran, is grima's complete opposite.

just like grima, they already have a legendary almost mythical lore attached to them, that being the prophesied great hero (of all time) who will be shot out of breidablik and just help the realm.

that and their inability to fight means they always must rely on the guys who summoned them and are now willing to take care of them in exchange for their power. a transactional one. the way they learn of the world and its politics is also biased towards the order of heroes, that being pro-Askr. their entire existence is externally justified from the moment they touch the ground -- thats the only reason why they currently exist in the world of heroes.

if there was no war, they arent needed. if there was nothing to attack, then just like grima, they arent needed.

but the lucky thing for kiran is that askr just happens to be justified and the morally correct. that askr isnt interested in abusing and conquering. that alfonse just wants some peace so he can chill on a beach or something.

but ironically again, there is a 3rd party here railroading the entirety of FEH's time and events aside from the game devs. alfador. kiran essentially doesnt really truly have a choice other than to stick to alfonse and hope things pan out.

so grima is evil bc the world deems them evil and wants them to be evil. the people would call them bringer of despair.

and kiran is good bc the world deems them good and wants them to be good. the people would call them bringer of hope

its deliciously ironic and hopelessly wonderful.

JUST REMEMBERED IVE HAD THIS ASK SITTING IN MY INBOX FOR A BIT I WAS SAVING IT FOR A RAINY DAY WHEN I NEEDED AN EXCUSE TO LET THE THOUGHTS OUT OHHHHH OKAY

so i saw a post on here a long fucking time ago essentially saying "stop saying something defies nature when you really mean it defies god" and for some reason i have not been able to stop thinking abt it lately bc like. okay.

when we read Frankenstein in class a few months ago, my teacher asked us the question after we'd finished the book: "should victor have created the monster?" and the general consensus was "no, because he was defying nature and creating an abomination- it was a mistake on his part, an act of ignorance and hubris." and like. even then i was of the opinion that victor shouldnt have made the creature, but that doesnt mean the creature shouldnt have been made, yknow? just that victor should not have been the one to do it because he was incapable of taking responsibility of it

and now i just cant stop thinking about the almost cycle of like. what nature says and how this plays into its creation because heres the thing. it was possible. if something truly defied the natural order, it wouldnt be possible right?? change is nature- evolution and progress is nature. the fact that it was possible for the creature to be made means its within the realm of nature right? like there was no magic involved, nothing supernatural- it was literally all natural science that victor applied to discover the secret of life and shit. so if you look at it through this lens then it totally follows my original thought, theres no reason that the creature shouldnt exist, but victor should not have been the one to create him

EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT ONE OF THE CORE TRUTHS OF THE NOVEL AND ONE OF THE REASONS I RESONATE WITH THE STORY SO MUCH IS THAT THE CREATURE AT A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL IS INCAPABLE OF BEING ACCEPTED BY SOCIETY. thats why he begs victor for a companion, he knows he will always be alone and no one will ever truly empathize with him. his entire life story sees him attempting to fit in with the beauty of the world, and only finding pain and suffering. and so now im stuck with this eternal debate in my mind, is this because he actually is an unnatural creation that he is unable to find a home? or is his being deemed unnatural a symptom of the very thing preventing him from being accepted by the world: humanity's fear/hatred of that which is different. and i just. im so stuck with this concept, this back and forth of nature vs the unnatural and where the creature falls in this spectrum; how much of nature is determined by us? im gay as fuck and incredibly transgender; people scream abomination at me all the time and that makes me more inclined to say unnatural is a meaningless word in this context. hes unnatural the same way i am, that is to say not at all because we both fucking exist. but then my brother brought up the fact that he is made up of corpses and theres the issue with desecration of the dead and lack of consent with ones body parts being reanimated but thats less unnatural to me and more unethical. and maybe thats the reason this is sticking with me so much because everyone around me was acting like this was a question of nature when really its a question of ethics. and maybe thats what my teacher meant and was trying to get at, but my classmates took it the nature route because everyone takes it the nature route (with good reason i think for how much they bring up the same topics in the text itself). but i really dont think nature matters in this context, so much as the ethics behinds victors actions before and after creating the creature

this is barely a conclusion and yet its the one ive arrived to so. thanks for the excuse to ramble, hopefully these thoughts make more sense written out than they do in my head

Theres quite a few of them so I'll just throw the big deal ones at you as an introduction!

I will give a quick content warning for body horror and blood for some of the images. those are at the end when im showing off my favourite oc

First up are the main group from my original OC world, the very originals for my cast of many morons who run around in my head rent free 24/7 365

Aurora, Avry, Jessi, Lusikka, Amaris, and Wrath

Aurora was the first oc out of all of them! She started out as my fursona back when i was starting to be online regularly, now though im well past that since Arty borty here has well since become her own character rather than just me but furry

Aurora is a Fennec Lyotternx, otherwise known as a furred folk Chimera in the oc's world. It simply means both her parents were a mix of some form so she's roughly 1/3 fennec fox, 1/3 lynx and 1/3 otter. She come form a long line of furred folk who protect a large forested area outside of a small town called Cedar Creek. She's also a magic user! She uses Phytomancy - plant magic. Though she's not great at it.

Avry Rayne is in fact my daughter i love her so so so much she's great! one of The Big Three ocs who are constantly on my mind at any given moment (you'll see the other two soon). if I were to actually take the time to write anything out for this group of ocs she's probably the closest to a main character. In a setting full of furries, mythical creatures, modern day magic etc etc She got the short end of the stick. literally nothing magic or supernatural wise. She's just you're regular ol average person trying to survive fighting a literal demon of shadow taking over the world for her own amusement. She's got mommy issues and is head over heels for her best friend, Jessi.

Jessi is the resident shapeshifter which Ive done some worldbuilding on and posted about awhile back here and probably the most level headed of the three. She certainly has her head on straight more or less. She's strongly tied to dragons which are a critically endangered species in this world. Jess is part shapeshifter and part werecreature- specifically a weredragon. Due to the fact she can't control it, her shapechange on the fullmoon resembles more the wolfman style of werewolves than just a straight change to the animal itself. The fact she can't control it is one of her biggest fears and around the time of a full moon she'll run off deep into the forest to get as far away from humanity as possible, hoping to lessen the chance of the weredragon hunting anyone she cares about.

Amaris is the shadow demon who is causing problems on purpose for fun. She revels in chaos and wants to see the world turn to absolute madness. in this world she is the source of all your sleep paralysis demon stories. She's actually an entity from another dimension who was cast out for an attempted hostile takeover of her home realm. She has complete control over shadows, to the extent that she has her own sort of backrooms esque shadow passages she uses to get around quickly. So long as she can fit through a shadow she can essentially teleport through it. Its not that hard for her to fit through things though. the small stature of 4'9" helps a bit.

Wrath meanwhile is whats known as an Incarnate. Incarnates are the physical manifestation of concepts and ideas. So like how we imagine Death as a skeleton in black robes with a scythe would be considered an incarnate in this world. There's only one of Each emotion and as we can guess, Wrath is anger incarnate. She's found herself working with Amaris to help spread chaos and destruction around the world after the shadow demon broke her free of her confinement by the Emotion Manifestation Obtainment organization (E.M.O for short) Wrath is a living weapon essentially and can't die so long as something out there can experience anger. Her limbs can shapeshift into any melee weapon and she gets stronger the more things around her experience her emotion. This can backfire though and she can get overloaded with anger and quite literally explode, having to reform her physical body at a later point.

Lusikka is a petty thief who has a lot of issues. She's an orphan who took to shoplifting for attention and well turned out she got really good at it. She's the leader of a group known as the silverware trio and uses a giant spoon to fight with, as silly as that sounds. She and the other two (Forcella and Kiridashi) started as a team of supervillians in their own world where they had a rogues gallery of food themed heroes who kept trying to foil their plans. This is where Lusi's dislike for tacos comes from. Now its just because she can't handle spice at all. She gets better and ends up with a wife and kids and she loves them so very much.

She still can't stand Avry being obnoxious though. something something shortest temper imaginable.

BLAIR! Blair Daniels-Anderson my beloved! Another one of The Big Three who are ever present. She's my far cry 5 player character and she has like the most stereotypically country song background story imaginable. its fitting for her and her terminal yeehaw brainworms.

Anyways, Blair's first wife divorces her, takes the house and the car and here she is planning to move back home to Calgary to pick up the pieces and then she gets stuck dealing with a religious cult and stuck in hope county Montana where she continues to have a bad time alongside @rainydaze-rhys 's OC Rook. (Rhys if you're reading this hi hewwo hi bestie!)

Meet Colby! I love her, she has many much issues and is named after 3 different cheeses!

yes THIS is the one that has my brain in a chokehold. she is the one who's CONSTANTLY being rotated in the brain like a rotisserie chicken.

Colby grew up on Saturn's moon Titan dreaming of being able to see the universe. She joins the MIRA crewmate system and works on the Skeld ship as the ship's cook. They end up infected with a symbiotic alien parasite that shows up as all kinds of body horror on them. They're inspired by The Thing from the movie... well... The THING.

so like Colby gets their want to explore the universe but it comes at the cost of being permanently infested with an alien parasite that can and will do anything to make sure it and its host survive, which includes eating people. of course the crew has a medical scanner for respawning purposes so they're fine. but there sure do be a LOT of murdering from everyone on this ship.

She also ends up dating the ships medical AI who is an evil scientist and i love her very much also. incredibly normal about both Colby and their GF, Micah, who belongs to Rainydaze-Rhys.

touhou 19 time! this game was literally not even released when i started this, so this is really fresh! this post is probably the closest i will ever be to a real games journalist lol.

nina's thoughts on Touhou 19 - Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost

the most recent touhou, coming out just a few weeks ago, so this review is hot off the presses! UDoALG (wild abbreviation by the way, this name is so long) is a pretty neat game, being a direct sequel to Wily Beast and Weakest Creature story-wise, and a sequel to Phantasmagoria of Flower View gameplay-wise.

UDoALG is another in the competitive-danmaku type gameplay, similar to PoFV but with a number of evolutions to make the gameplay more balanced and easier to control. i won't go over every little change, since theres quite a lot, but ill point out some interesting changes, mostly in relation to story mode. for starters, Ability Cards are back again from UM, although with a much smaller role. each character has 2 cards themed to them, and whenever you beat an opponent in story mode you're randomly given one of their two cards. the three animal spirits are added, but they work completely differently to WBaWC, now being stronger variants of the generic spirit enemies from PoFV. a change that i think is only in story mode is that a new win condition is added, where if you defeat your opponent's boss summon an amount of times then your opponent loses. this is also pretty much the only wincon in story mode, since the AI has insane dodging skills. i literally only saw them lose a life one (1) time across 19 characters' stories (if you're curious, it was in Chiyari's stage 1).

one really interesting aspect of this game is the storytelling. i usually don't bring up the story in these posts outside of how certain characters relate to it, the story usually is a fairly simple affair that just gives the characters a reason to fight, but UDoALG has a much more complex story, which im kinda mixed on. i'll start with the cool part: the story actually progresses as you play through and unlock various characters in story mode, every set of character unlocks represents a later time period of the story, so you don't get the full story and resolution until you play through it all. this is a super cool idea, and gives good incentive to keep playing different routes and see how it all plays out. its a cool idea that uniquely plays off of the large character roster and unlocking method of these competitive vs games.

unfortunately, in order to make this happen and make every character be relevant, the plot is needlessly convuluted, especially in the first couple campaigns. there are so many factions at play, all with their own motives and double-agents and subterfuge. by the end of the 19 story scenarios you will be absolutely sick of the phrase "this is exactly as i had planned", and yet i still dont fully understand What the "main villain"s plan was. i commend ZUN for trying something new with the narrative, both in doing a direct sequel with most of the same characters as a former game, as well as this way of unfolding the story over time through different character routes, but i can't say it was Good. maybe im just biased since it mostly revolves around the WBaWC cast, and that game already had pretty rough plot and characterization, but i dunno. i will say i liked the story more at the end than i did after doing the first couple routes, but some of that early confusion never really goes away, and characters like Ran and Tsukasa dont really get their stories resolved.

time to talk about the characters! UDoALG is furry city, pretty much every character besides the human incident resolvers is some kind of animal-person, plus a few Onis. for returning characters we have Reimu, Marisa, Sanae, Ran (from PCB), Aunn (HSiFS), Nazrin (UFO), Seiran (LoLK), Rin (SA), Tsukasa (UM), Mamizou (TD), Yachie (WBaWC), Saki (WBaWC), Yuuma (the 3rd Animal Realm leader, coming from a fighting game i think?), and Suika (also a fighting game, and SA). for the new characters, we have 3 new youkai who have each joined one of the animal realm families respectively, plus the 'main villain' Zanmu and her assistant Hisami. since theres only 5 new guys, ill just give them each a quick review.

Son Biten is a monkey youkai, based on Son Wukong, recruited to Yachie's Kiketsu family. she's pretty goofy, and has a really neat musical theme. i dont have much to say about her, besides that she has a cool inspiration, and some of her interactions are pretty funny.

Enoko is a dog-type youkai, loosely based on the idea of Cerberus, who was recruited to Saki's Keiga family. instead of literally having 3 heads, she has bear traps on her wrists that act as analogues to the jaws of two additional heads, which is a really neat interpretation of a cerberus concept, as well as having tons of comedic potential. i love all the jokes people make about her offering up a Totally Normal Handshake, dont worry about it. she apparently lived in the Forest of Magic as a dog before awakening as a youkai, so she joins the crew of Marisa's funny forest friends.

the third new Youkai is Chiyari, who is NOT a chupacabra, despite what everyone says. she's based on a Tenkajin, which is apparently an obscure youkai that sucks blood, obscure enough that i could only find a single source for it online, being a Japanese blog post written by who i assume is a youkai enthusiast. Anyways, nobody in Gensokyo knows what a tenkajin is either, so everyone calls her a chupacabra instead since its another bloodsucking creature who is 'pretty popular right now'. most of her interactions are her being annoyed by being called a chupacabra, and eventually coming to terms with it. poor tenkajin gets no respect. shes very funny, and also apparently completely broken in pvp. great character.

Hisami is a 'guide of Hell', who is also inexplicably based on grapes for some reason (or eggplants, depending on who you ask, but im in grapes camp.) she pretty much just finds people in hell and helps them find their destination, although 'their destination' is up to Hisami's interpretation, and multiple times in the story she leads characters somewhere else. apparently she does her job wrong because she wants Zanmu to notice her, and it doesn't work cause apparently that was part of Zanmu's plan all along, so she doesn't care. Zanmu is too busy playing 4d chess to give her suboordinate some attention, so sad.

speaking of, Zanmu is an Oni, and the 'main villain' of the game. i say that with quotes because, despite being the final boss in most routes, and being the chessmaster supposedly laying out the big plans and manipulating everyone, she also is simultaneously resolving the incident, kinda?? its a bit hard to understand her motivations. well i guess her motivations make sense, but its hard to understand how exactly she plans to get what she wants from this plan. like her plan involves getting beat up by Reimu multiple times? hello?? not a fan, and she doesn't even have a cool design inspiration to make up for it, shes just another oni.

alright, lets wrap this one up. i was surprised to see another VS type game come out, and it seems to deliver a lot more balanced and interesting combat than the first one (granted, story mode plays pretty differently from what i can tell). the story is weird though, and the roster doesn't really have many characters i'm excited to play as compared to PoFV, and the characters i do like are pretty bad. (Sanae in particular is really weak in this format, her homing snakes are a huge disadvantage against bosses since they turn as soon as they see an enemy, meaning they wont hit the boss unless every random spirit or fairy is dead first). complaints aside though, at the base level its still pretty fun, and im glad that this type of gameplay is being given another chance.

i said it in my PoFV review, and ill say it again here: if any of you reading this have UDoALG, and are interested in playing the PvP with me, hit me up! itd be fun to try playing this with another person (although i heard the online is rough so i dunno…)

i was thinking about soul bosses right. and how weird they are. and I mean I don't think they are canon but also, there is another thing that is strange that i was thinking about. marx, That Dead Motherfucker Who Got Catapulted Through Space And Into A Exploding Fucking Clock Thing, Then Stayed In Space For One Morbillion Years, is a star friend and definitely alive or whatever in star allies. how are you doing that? who do you serve? what? how?

and I also thought about magolor. and how by all means that egg looking fuck should also be dead as a doornail but is not. just like marx

and I also thought about things that nobody should ever be concerned about making make sense in canon, like the fact that kirby can respawn, and that enemies can respawn, and that the same exact minibosses come to fight kirby every now and again even though they Die. this is just game logic but somehow I made it real.

and I also thought about morpho knight and read its whole wiki page. and I also thought about kirby mass attack because I really like mass attack. and hours later here we are.

so we know necrodeus right? skully guy? evil as shit and is a hands boss? guy whose name means god of death very obviously? yeah, whaddya know, that guy is the god of death/the underworld. makes sure that all the spirits are definitely still where morpho (#grimreaperslashbutterflyofjudgementhours) put em, and all that jazz. most importantly for this headcanon, keeps people in the afterlife and not. like. letting necromancy happen. he's god of death.

or should I say WAS!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE KIRBY FUCKING KILLED HIM AND SENT HIM TO THE FUCKING SHADOW REALM IN KIRBY MASS ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok so even though he totally deserved it for trying to kill kirby. this makes a lot of things bad. let's think of the cons here

1. the god of death is dead

2. there is no heir to the god of death

3. now there is nobody to preside over the afterlife other than morpho knight

4. morpho knight is a collective of butterflies

5. the entire mechanism of death is so fucked

and what does this all mean? the one big thing that this headcanon revolves around:

ever since kirby killed necrodeus, (which I headcanon to be pretty early in the timeline), the afterlife has been running on what is pretty much an honor system. people die and then end up in the afterlife and because theres nobody manning the gates they can just leave. morpho does his best to keep people in but fuck man there are billions of sentient creatures dying in every galaxy every second and that's hard to keep up with. some people don't know about this, and so they stay in the afterlife like a little dead person is supposed to, but the people who know? outta here.

and my apologies but some of the most heinous people ever are aware of this life hack. including marx and magolor. yeah that's right they both fuckig died. and then said "fuck you death" and decided to un-die. but because they're fucked up and evil I guess they can.. can soul boss?!?!?!?! can soul boss form. only if you go to hell though. yeah baby soul bosses the forms you take in hell. that's probably the darkest part of this headcanon and I just pulled it out of my ass. because Um. why would magolor's soul take the form of what happened to him in the worst moment in his entire ass life. marx looks like that because hes fucked up. drawcia soul is fucked up because shes a drawing also my headcanon is you fight drawcia soul IN HER HELL because yeah! sectonia soul uh . um. some redesigns may need to happen ILL DRAW THAT LATER

but yeah. also kirby doesnt crawl his way outta the afterlife every time he dies like everyone else. morpho knight is just so sick of him (scared of him) that it doesn't even bother to come for his soul every time he dies it just lets him. wake up on his own terms. which is stupidly funny to me.

so i just found the first queens warrior. and its got me thinking abt a couple things. its the little rolly caterpillar that i basically played volleyball with to beat. and they kept saying they were waiting for the queen bc the queen is going to teach them to fly. interesting, bc why would the queen be a good teacher to learn to fly? the queens gardens also has quite a number of flying critters, and wings are a Part of the world thats . interesting sometimes. not everyone has wings bc Bugs. but is the queen a winged creature? im getting the sense that shes a different kind of bug from the king. her realm and the kings realms are being delineated by the game as Distinct. firstly through the queens station and the kings station being situated so far away from each other on the map, being separate locations to begin with, the references to each nearly always being separate, characters referring only to one or the other, but rarely both in tandem.

the queen i think is going to be a much more interesting reveal than the king. mostly because the game is taking pains to hide more about the queen than the king. references to the queen, motherhood, are subtler than that of the king, traceable through things like the number of mothers, broods, that are discoverable in boss fights and mobs, rather than the dialogue and written storytelling. im beginning to suspect that the game is trying to leverage common assumptions that the king is the central figure, the all powerful patriarch, as part of its storytelling. which is fascinating. why is gender becoming a part of the theming. so interesting.

i know another big theme is reproduction and lineage. ancestry etc. thats been very consistent so far. but its interesting to see how theyre weaving in the idea of the Queen, the Mother into all this.

OH YEAH IVE BEEN SAYING THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO HIDE THE QUEEN MORE THAN THE KING LOL BUT ONE OF THE BIGGEST GLARING CLUES WAS HERRAH SAYING "for her...for her..." OVER AND OVER AGAIN LOLOLOLLLOL

ok but i still stand by it. the queen is going to be distinct from the king. possibly a different species ? or just a really big deal is going to be made that She holds a particularly unique special place in the role of the World, perhaps more so than the king. inchresting.

theorycrafting: ok claire this is for you specifically, but you kept hinting at the delineation of Old and New (kingslight oldlight) and this is falling directly in place with the delineation of king and queen. im Wondering if maybe queen was a bastion of the oldlight, a part of the old order more closely associated with dreams than soul. bc nothing queen associated has so far been tied to Soul the way that the king always is. idk. i could be wayyy off base with all of this and im just seeing things that i want to see, but i think if they went in this direction it would be really really interesting. and a lot of the storytelling in the written word and the game elements would support this kind of theming! hmhm.

also i went to stag nest and theres a fucking baby stag wandering around somewhere where the hell is it i tried so hard to find it in the stagnest but i couldnt find it where the fuck am i going to find it

I do sometimes wonder this same thing, about how the Entity can take these people without causing any outer disturbance, but when the wiki said the spidery form of the Entity may be inspired by the form taken by the creature from IT i got thinking. IT can be visible as a large female spider (like how the Entity is often referred to in lore and by Devs with female pronouns, and takes the form of spidery claws in the trials) but has a true form of swirling destructive orange lights "deadlights" (which may explain the orange goo on maps, and makes the name Dead by Daylight kinda a play on words of "Deadlights"). IT is described as a multiversal entity, feeding on fears, much like how The Entity is a multiversal Goddess who feeds on emotions like hope and despair.

It's fully possible that if The Entity is based on the writings of Stephen King, that while IT is a basis of The Entity's appearance and nature, the scale of it may be something similar to a Langolier, a creature that devours time at the end of a universe. The Langoliers' consume dying universes, and destroy remnants of the past, including those who are displaced in time. The Entity may be the same, they may be an unseen force that is cleaning up the multiverse of dying realities, and those who do not belong in their time. Maybe as a universe comes to an end, the Entity chooses new players to add to it's games, feeding it the hope and despair that they need to survive. After all, those who escape can find themselves in the void, as if there is nothing outside the Entity anymore, that theres no home left for them to return to.

I think that adds a lot of interesting weight to DBD. The idea that in one way, the Entity is dooming people to it's sadistic games, forcing them into awful pain and death for eternity, as their soul slowly fades, but in another way, it's saving them from a permanent death, giving them new chances at something else, finding new people, making new friends, experiencing triumph and defeat. The Entity feasts on all emotions, not just despair, but hope and love as well. In the Entity's realm, both the Nurse and Wraith were given new chances at life and love after experiencing nothing but tragedy, and their cosmetics show that they found love in eachother in the Realm. The Artist is given new hands and a new voice to create again. The Demogorgon is freed from the Mindflayer. Victor and Charlotte are reunited. Survivors like Tapp and Bill are saved from death.

I had half a dozen awesome dreams last night. And I think they were all isekai. 🤔

There was one where this kid was looking for his dad and it was night and he was supposed to meet him at this circus. There were lots of attractions, some sort of fair or something. It was busy. He fell asleep earlier and missed the meet up and when he got there suddenly the joint got SUPER bustling, like all of a sudden all the attractions' people came out and did this.. not a flash mob but they all had this routine. Different ones going on all at once, it was organized chaos.

It's amazing how no one ran into eachother. One group were acrobats and clowns and on the move, winding between other groups as they performed. And another was this huge army of what looked like human toy soldiers riding on some toy creature like horses (they and riders were all in yellow and red) and they were stampeding, going around and around the fairgrounds. Main character almost got run over like 3 times just trying to dodge their route. (It was unpredictable)

When they got to where the tent was supposed to be, it was gone. Some cranky guy with his own shabby tent was there. He said that place wasnt there anymore, that they had moved locations. (There was also mention of another group that were in trouble for rumored dog abuse or something. I dont know how they factor in with the circus tent)

The kid went looking and ended up near an ocean beach. Where did this ocean come from. Guy comes running across the sand but its too late, kid steps a foot into the water.

It's not a regular ocean, its like the portal to another realm. A monstery realm. The waves suck him down out of nowhere and he just sinks waaaaay, way way way down.

And he's not wet, he can breathe. Can't see anything. But hes going "it's okay, I'm okay." Over and over. And that he knows hes going to the monster realm, but he'll be fine-

because apparently this is the start of the third story in a trilogy and hes dealt with these beings before, has made both friends, neutral acquaintances and enemies, so hes familiar with how things work, so he'll live.

The water goes from brown and murkey to bluer and this blobfish looking fish comes in view. It bumps its mouth into the kid and at first he pushes it, like 'dont eat me' and then he pets it. The fish kind of swims past him then and he grabs onto its tail and this fish pulls him for a bit until hes somewhere near the surface.

He lets go. Says thanks. Suprisingly, the fish says you're welcome and leaves. 😳

He climbs out of this canal, surrounded by buildings. Pretty metropolitan. Immediate area looks nice, a glass ceiling and tiles all over. Further along theres things like highways, construction... Theres a big excavator with a scary face, like that crazed grasshopper in A Bugs Life. 👀 He just workin'.

Kid ends up at like a bus stop. Something pulls up, but it's at gutter level. And at first glance it looks like a portable landfill. He climbs in with the other people/things and there's theater seats covered in random junk. Just so much junk. Like socks, football helmets, raggedy stuffies, bowling balls..

But don't touch the junk because mimic-like things live among the junk and if you grab one it'll eat you. Kid grabs a sock to move it so he can sit. He feels it ripple and chitter as he tosses it away.

I don't remember much after this. The plot changes and theres like a group of like 4 teens who come to the realm loking for one of their own. (Not the same guy, i don't think...) They get taken in by this rich old lady. I thinks it illegal because while she gives them sanctuary she also kind of refuses to look at them like shes nervous and/or kind of disgusted about it.

They ask for food but are ignored but she directs them to a snack cupboard of things they assume humans like.

There was like. Fruit cups filled with Reese's pieces. A box of cake mix. Lota tubs of frosting. Cheese crackers. Granola bars. A lot of good junk. There were cups of something like "honey flakes" which looked like it was supoosed to be a cereal but was probably more like a cup of that bee pollen pellet things.

There were wraith things out behind the house, some of them look like jawas. There was a gated hallway that led to grounds below the house but they need weapons or something because these things would hurt them. They get down there and theres a whole sublevel that dorsnt look like its underground. It looks like a really nice campus.

Oh, but they got to it by diving into a river. Not a natural one, it was surrounded by red steel constructs. It had algae and vegitations like a natural cold spring. Some of the kids dove in but one hesitated and watched these black-clad scary, spikey warrior alien things go in after them. So the last kid dove in after them.

Bad things caught up where they needed to start climbing some rock face, and the last kid jumped onto a baddy to try to slow him down. He was very pokey. Hard to hold onto. Didnt pay much attention to the kid though.

They all met up at the campus area, where the river settled. Don't remember how they fended them off..

Then there was another plot.. Which also took place in some underground city. Most of it looked like a parking garage but there was a city too and a little grassy mountain top with one little cottage that dropped a little waterfall between crevases. There was some guy who was expected to be like 'the chosen one' and have some kind of lost knowledge.

Turns out there was some secret involving the water? 2 small children fell off the waterfall straight down the mountain. He dives in after expecting them all to die but the littlest kid is like 'dont you remember?' And gives/reminds him the secret which is something like 'trust the water and relax' and they do and they hit the water without being injured and they all live, yay.

And there was some turf wars between groups of kids who lived down there and a leading bully. And that plot centered around some savior (possibly one of the group of teens) who supposedly fought him into submission and acquired special loyalty and submission from everyone but he doesnt remember this and no one else does either.. The only witnesd who could tell the story was missing. But it looks like they'll need to recreate those circumstances to get the situation they need. Like a following army.

Any there was an entirely different plot that was very DnD adventure but it was the first dream so I dont remember it as well...

Here are some creatures i made now!!

Pond dweller!

Its a crustacean that lives in deep puddles! They don't seem deep but in actuality they can be up to 7 feet deep! Their hard shell protects them when they could be stepped on. They have flippers to help turn, and the bone claw like appendages are to help crawl on land. The fin on the sides and back are to help swim and whatnot. The puddle holes are thin so the flippers on the sides can be used to crawl on the walls to move. The face on the front is like an upside down muppet face lmao!!

It mostly eats bugs and sometimes fish!

"Doll"

This one was more or less for fun and its much like bigfoot or a yeti or "big head". It was seen and named off the most prominent feature! The big eyes and the way the fur and ears are shaped seem like pigtails. The thin limbs are reminiscent of a small child. So it was called a doll! It lives in trees and grabs its prey and drags them up and eats them.

Carnivorous.

Starlight Part 1

A/N: So this has become probably my longest fic yet, and I am so proud of it, I was going to do the beginning very differently but I grew to love it the way it was so I hope you all enjoy this as well.

Pairing: Sukuna x Reader

Genre: fluff and very light smut due to the references to sexual activities

"Master, a vessel has been brought about," your curse that is the embodiment of a cat said, approaching you as you were sitting on the balcony edge of your home. A beautifully large building hidden in the woodsy countryside. 

"Hmm, and for whom Chinami?" You asked your curse creature. She gazed up at you with galaxy like eyes. 

"Well master, it would seem to be Sukuna, the king of curses." She chimed ever so sweetly. 

"How troublesome, and no need to add the king of curses part, he's merely a speck of unimportance, but I guess a reunion is in order, do tell Chinami, where would he be residing?" You asked gingerly stroking the cats back, ruffling her ears causing a purr to resonate with her response. 

"Tokyo, at the Curse Technical College master, " 

"Please Chinami, drop the formalities, but I guess you and I will be going on a trip, it's been awhile since I've seen the school, how exciting it will be to check in on everyone." You got up from your spot and smoothed out your dress, grabbing Chinami and holding her as you began to get ready for your long journey. 

It wasn’t often you crossed worlds, but when you did it was always a delight to see how humans are faring for themselves. A comfort even. It was even nicer to be able to see the progression of humanity, and what a delight it was to come across humans who can control evil curses that linger and find themselves in the human world. It would seem as though your kind are less and less needed, a retired breed as some might say. So you and your people live your own lives like humans, but without the drag of evil curses, but that's not to say they don’t congregate every now and again in your world, but in your world they could just be considered as much as a nuisance as a house fly. 

But due to the changing times you made sure to dress more appropriately. Opting for leggings and a hoodie, although sadly you could not take the blue blush that lingered between your cheeks and over the bridge of your nose, golden stars and star formations decorated the blue blush as well, dark blue eyebrows and sunflower yellow eyes. You still stuck out amongst everyone else but no more than someone who was really good at what the humans called, makeup. 

Chiname rested upon your shoulders as you walked through the streets of Tokyo, eventually coming up to the school building. 

“Chinami, are you excited? I do believe this is your first time being here, even better, you get to meet some old acquaintances of mine.” You said, reaching your hand up so place it upon her head. 

“Of course y/n, learning something new about you everyday is the best part of being by your side, there is no end to the amazing things I learn about you,” she chimed in, nestling her head more into the crook of your neck. And with that you walked into the compound of the large school. Eventually seeing a tall man wearing a mask over his eyes, a man you so very well know. 

“Gojo!” You yelled, getting his attention from across the way, causing him to stop and look curiously at you. It took a second for him to register who you were but when he did he was absolutely over the moon and came rushing towards you as you sauntered over in his direction. He immediately wrapped his arms around you in a hug, something you shouldn’t be used to after not seeing him for a long time. 

“Y/n!! What brings you here on such a surprise visit?” He asked now nestling his cheek against yours. Causing a small chuckle to resonate within you. But you pulled away to give yourself distance between you both. 

“I think we both know the answer to my question, Gojo, how long have you been holding Sukunas vessel?” You crossed your arms and looked up to the handsomely tall man in front of you. 

“Oooo always so serious,” he said poking your cheek and then his attention was grabbed by the pure white cat that sat upon your shoulders, her galaxy eyes staring intently at Gojo. “As well as theres more introductions to be made, who is this cute little creature you have with you?” He said, not rustling the fur on Chinamis head. Causing her to get annoyed. 

“Please do not touch me,” Chinami said, twisting her head to the side. Causing a look of shock and surprise to show on Gojos face. 

“Oooo and she talks??? Well I shouldn’t have expected less, and my dearest apologies fur ball,” he said chuckling and bowing before Chinami, being called a fur ball just led her to be more annoyed. 

“Please, do tell y/n, what is this insatiable man to you?” Chinami asked, looking intently at you for answers. 

“It is a long, but good story Chinami, I will make sure to tell you one day but for now we have a more serious matter to attend to. Gojo, I asked you a question very nicely, and you know me enough. Do not make me ask again, where is the vessel and most importantly, who is the vessel?” Arms still crossed in front of you Gojo leans in and practically whispers in your ear. 

“Come with me,” now pulling away smiling, turning on his heel leading the way. 

“With pleasure, but while we are making our way there, might I add you’ve grown quite old Gojo, how old are you now? thirty-two?” you asked. 

“You would be correct, and the vessel's name is Yuji Itadori, a fun kid, he’s been the vessel for Sukuna for about four years now.” He replied, still walking and looking forward. 

“I very much dislike not knowing this information until this long afterwards, but I assume that he must have a strong character to manage a pest like Sukuna,” you said, 

“He is, he’s been training with him since he was sixteen, and has grown to be a very good asset for this school and other curse sorcerers, but ah here we are!” Gojo stopped in front of room in the hallway of one of the many school buildings. Gojo didn’t even knock before barging into the room. 

“Itadori!” He yelled practically now barreling into the room towards the pink haired boy who was seated on his bed. Eyes wide with shock at the sudden intrusion, looking at you both confused as to who the guest Gojo brought was but also kind of like a plea for help, to be released from Gojos grasp. But then Gojo pulled away and stood in front of him as you walked into the room and shutting the door behind you. 

“My friend y/n is here to speak with Sukuna!” Gojo said, making himself comfortable on the desk chair. 

“Ooo, I don’t know how I can get him out for you, since sometimes he just refuses to listen, but I’ll try my hardest,” smiling Itadori held his fist up to chest level. 

“No need, I already know how to get to him, just sit and relax,” you said walking over to the man sitting on the bed. Putting your hand on his forehead and nearly on the top of his head. 

“What I’m going to do is extend myself into his domain within your body, you see I know Sukuna personally, as were both from the same plane of another realm, but I assure you, as I’m speaking with Sukuna Gojo will begin to explain everything about me,” you said reassuring Itadori or your action, he nodded in agreement so now you begun to transfer your mental being into his. 

Within a few seconds you body appeared in a dark and dreary place, informing you that you are now most definitely in the domain of Sukuna, who from what you could see was sitting on a hill on a throne. 

“You really did make yourself at home within this man's body, didn’t you.” You said bluntly. A chuckle resonated from the man who sits above you. 

“Y/n, oh how I missed you, I am also surprised it took you so long, what have you not made any trips to the human world within the last four years?” Sukuna said, now rising from his seat and down the stairs towards you eventually stopping right in front of you. You looked up into his eyes showing no emotion, but why was your heart racing now? Why are feelings from the past now rising within your chest? 

“I’ve had no reason to do so until now, Sukuna,” you said. Sukuna bent down a bit to make straight eye contact with you, brushing his fingers down your cheek, your jawline and eventually trailing down your neck to your collar bone, wrapping his fingers around your neck and bringing his mouth to your ear. 

“Was it because you missed me?” his low and quiet tone was threatening your senses, causing goosebumps to rise on your skin. You stepped back, releasing yourself from his grasp. But he pulled you back in, making himself a resident of the side of your face, and also bodies now completely touching. 

“But I did miss you y/n, there was the constant reminder of you lingering around that weird white haired man, pray do tell what I’m sensing,” he whispered in your ear. 

“You’re not mistaken Sukuna, but what you think you sense no longer exists,” you tried your best to make it seem as though your rendezvous with Gojo was something that held no meaning. But Sukuna was not so easily fooled, he wrapped his fingers tighter around your neck. 

“You’re a horrible liar, and to think you’re the type to try and make me jealous,” he said, gingerly biting your ear and trailing his nibbling down your neck. But this time you needed to get away, what happened between you both was over, you just knew you could be of extra assistance to Itadori when it comes to Sukuna if things were to lose control and get worse than things already are. Rage begun to flow through your body. 

“Don’t you dare continue any further Sukuna, surely you must be joking to think your actions are okay.” You loathe this man, and everything about him. You hated that he was right and of course you would be lying to say you didn’t miss him. 

In these moments with Sukuna you have completely forgotten the physical effects that happened to your body when you were deeply into your emotions or in a rough battle, because on the outside, your body began turn a bluish black with stars scattered around, you began to look like a walking galaxy, and the men who were discussing you paused and just watched in amazement. 

“Ooo I love it when you're angry, now please are you going to use Orion's belt to tie me up like you used to when we were in bed together?” Sukuna chuckled, and now at this point you were fuming and about to bubble over. 

“That’s it, I’ll be on my way, I can’t be troubled to put more time into this, I’ll be back when you’re ready to be serious.” You said now storming off while Sukuna was calling after you. 

“Oh but dollface, the fun was just beginning!” but his words had no effect and you soon opened your eyes to your physical body, removing your hand from Itadoris head, your body now completely back to normal. 

“Thank you Itadori, Gojo, I’ll need somewhere to stay for the time being.” the men just nodded, absolutely dazed by what they just witnessed. 

“Why are you two staring at me?’ You asked shyly, but the only person to respond was Chinami. 

“Y/n, your body turned into a galaxy,” she said, now taking up residency back on your shoulder. 

“Oh what a nuisance, but Gojo, please offer some assistance for a room,” Gojo nodded at you and you two began to walk out. 

You turned to Itadori who was still sitting on his bed, staring at you as you walked away. 

“I will see you soon,” You winked and continued walking out of the room, closing the door behind you. But now you were left with so many questions. Like how are you bringing Sukuna back to your world? Surely you couldn’t do so until Itadori has consumed all of his fingers, which you found absolutely nauseating and surely something you should’ve gotten used to during your hundreds of years of existence but you still couldn’t. 

So what are you to do now? Well I guess you will just have to wait and see.

I'm really interested in learning about the Dreamscape! What's it like? Is it split up into different parts? How many different kinds of dream beings are there? Please do tell as much as you can! (sorry I just kind of want to know everything about it-)

youre valid! Im not answering this in character, mainly cause I just wanna talk about it.

Theres four main realms, the waking world (the reality we know), the dreamscape (where people go when they dream), the nightmare realm (where nightmares exist) and the fae glen.

There's a lot of crossing and overlapping. There's places where the nightmare, fae, real and dream world all intersect, layering on top of eachother.

There are probably a lot of species, but as of right now I have a handful of different creatures:

Some universal ones that you can find in the dream and nightmare realm are the arcana (which i borrowed from kyo), dopplegangers, the crystallines, and the shadow people

the theres the fralys, which exist usually around borders between the fae anf nightmare realm.

and the arrabambole, which can exist literally anywhere.

theres the briomanges, who can travel between the dream and nightmare scape, and the traumwebers, who are exclusively nightmare creatures (minus Aster). and then above them both are the Canis, who cant even get close to leaving the nightmare realm.

Then there are dream beings, dream weavers, hoppers, who inhabit the dreamscape.

And the fae realm has the fae- you know, faeries, pixies, all that jazz. And they can also be seen in other places, like the waking world and the dream realm.

When it comes to living in the dreamscape, its very volitile. The landscape is always changing, making, unmaking and remaking itself. Most creatures either have little bubbles where they live or theyre nomadic, or a little of both.

Theres a specific spot in the dreamscape thats called the Valley of Echoes. The valley of Echoes is kind of special. When people, creatures, anything like that come into the place for prolonged periods of time, their memories will start to blossom and manifest all over the land. Its an area of very very very highly concentrated dream magic. Most people and creatures know to avoid it because it has no restraint it will pull any memory, even your most horrifying and traumatizing.

The nightmarescape is vast, dark and dangerous. Theres a lot of kingdoms carved up by the many nightmare creatures who exist within the nightmare realm, and theres much more structure than in the dreamscape which is more anything goes and small groups of local settlements and nomads. There's a lot of dangerous creatures, but also a lot of oddly beautiful locals. For example there is an area overgrown with massive crystal fields near a border with the fae realm and the dream realm. It's a spot where a lot of crystallines end up forming.

I think Ill pause here- but if youd like specifics on any of these I can continue I just dont wanna make this too long I know long asks can be bothersome

Throwing random thoughts, headcanons, and a variety of pasta at the wall (but only those having to do with vessels and/or their biology this time): The Thrilling Third Installment™

Thk's larger form is not the standard, but the exception. Thk was cited as being "raised and trained to prime form", which people take to mean pk assisted in the vessel's natural growth. However, that conclusion leaves a lot of unanswered questions, most important of which being “then what about Ghost?” In short, I think that train of thought is backwards. Vessels can't grow- they are ageless, and immortal. We know this due to Ghost, despite living as long if not longer than thk, being completely unchanged over the years. The only thing pk trained into "prime form" was thk’s mind and fighting prowess. Their body... well, I think it was mutated. Most likely either directly by pk, or ordered by him- and with the shenanigans happening over in the sanctum, I wouldn't be surprised if Soul was involved, too. In any case, it was in no means natural. Vessels are corpses reanimated by void; neither corpses nor void tend to make drastic changes on their own all that often. Whether pk predicted the vessel’s “issues” and intended to manually “upgrade” them from the beginning, it's hard to say. But... yeah. Unless Ghost goes out of their way to make themselves grow- if its even possible, now that pk is gone- its fairly safe to say, they never will.

...with that in mind, we are promptly gonna ignore that for the rest of this post lmaooo

Grown-up vessels wouldn't look like thk; while they are described as being raised into "prime form"... prime form, to whom? Rather than looking like an idealized pk soldier, it sounds much more fitting that they’d have an entirely different, natural adult form. Consider: their cloaks being longer and fuller, perhaps filling out into something with a more practical use to their “species”. Better yet, they could even grow up to be more beast-like. Feral vessels, YEhaW

The black egg temple is cited as being "built to sustain [vessels]", yet it can't be their lifespan that is sustained. Rather, it seems the egg is specifically designed to keep the radiance from tearing thk apart, physically and/or mentally. Ngl its p obvious, but worth noting.

Sorta-au where Ghost’s shade has 8 eyes, and/or is generally all-around more cryptid-looking.

@ the sharpshadow charm and the strange, 6-eyed creature their shade turns into: kudos to this post, they bring up something super interesting- the creature not only resembles the Shade Lord, but the lord outright becomes it during the Embrace the Void cutscene.

makes me respect the ol’ civilization a whole lot more if a single charm can turn a baby shade into a baby lord.

The concept of finding ghosts unconscious body, laying next to a corpse, while they battle in their dreams. Alt: when ghost enters the dream realm, their shade leaves their shell... And protects their body from harm.

If steel soul mode is taken as canon, just how did ghost and the shade meet? Alt: Ghost may never have “met” it at all, as it technically doesn’t exist in that mode- instead, its more of a metaphor than an actual entity.

What the vessels looked like- or were supposed to look like- before the void. Alt: a story following a child, alive and untouched, that somehow managed to be spared. They could even have a gender. Alt alt: the void intentionally spared them for some purpose, or even out of simple kindness- or at least, something that resembles kindness.

Re: the shade inexplicably having a nail: all the vessel's swords are crafted from “will-bearing rock”- of which i’ve come to lovingly call living stone- and as such, are of void themselves. That's how the shade seems to conjure up its own copy; it merely shapes it, from the ground, using void. And, while more of a stretch, Ghost’s nail being some sort of living stone/pale ore alloy could explain just how Ghost can do seemingly pretty crazy things with an otherwise ordinary nail. Better, while 100% a baseless hc, its material might actually enable Ghost to build it up and modify it to suite their size as they grow older. finally, a logical reason adult Ghost has an adult-sized nail-claymore. hdsfghjfghdsjf

On that same thought: Ghost outright invented the "art" of manipulating- or creating- living stone to make their nail. ...gimme a sec. The other escaped vessels have nails, too, right? Either meaning they also discovered this ability... or that theres some legitimate ground for the “vessel gang” hc. Or, yanno, i’m reading too much into Ari’s sprites but sHHhh

How did all the vessels know to race to the top? They seemed to be falling merely because they had just been born and had literal, actual baby strength; yet not only did they inexplicably risk everything competing to the top, they somehow knew death was waiting if they lost. Alt: pk just, bringing a fucking megaphone and telling them like a sports announcer.

What if Ghost made it, and instead of falling, they managed to joined thk at the lip? What would pk do? Push them off the edge??? Or just adopt them both?? Oh fuck au where they're raised as twin sacrifices. Or worse yet, they’re raised unequally, and one is trained only as an afterthought. As a backup.

Alternatively, pk keeps all the vessels au, only a few years later when they're grown. Pk now has a literal army of pure knights. Radiance is fucked.

Hm. If vessels were fully coherent entities from the moment of birth, why was there a crib in the white palace? Did... did they use it? I have a feeling team cherry made that asset before the abyss scene lmaooo alt: they did, uh, use the crib. Cue a very awkward scene of thk, clearly not a normal baby, staring at wl with like... idk, the poofy baby hat and pacifier. I can’t tell if the image is more funny or more sad rn shdfgfjsdgg

The og notes that inspired this post, in case my rambling makes more sense (and w/o the awful comic hjsfgjsdfhj): Oh oh OH i GET it now. The void is all about "will" and whatnot, right? And shades are "fragments of a lingering will"- will, like the one you leave after your death, but instead of inheritance its the vessels' desires...last regrets.... DAMN team cherry, that symbolism is clever as heck. That took me a while. Kinda funny how a will is, technically, a person's last regrets Like I knew they were last regrets but I didn't understand WHY. Duh, it's because they're literally Made Of Will. They are the vessel's "wills". I'm so stupid.

Ghost, walking thru the abyss, getting increasingly fed up / freaked out, ducking into a crack in the wall. They follow the crack into the Scream Chamber, pause, then exhale in relief that this was EXACTLY what they needed.

Ghost's shade rolling up its void-sleeves like “fuck it, ima defeat thk myself”

Why was thk's sword there? Was its pedestal decayed? Did it fall from their body? Was it place there as an afterthought, or hurriedly? alt: taking thk's sword before freeing them, but doing the mom thing like you're grounding them hdhfjchjch

I can’t believe it just occured to me now, but... as objectivley stupid as the vessel’s test was, Ghost... technically came in second place. What if that whole scene was a metaphor? Because really, it’s just too silly to take seriously. To do so isn’t too far fetched, either; many other elements in the game’s story are better taken as symbolic or metaphorical, anyways. Take the PoP cutscene- while it could’ve been a literal moment, where they just happened to find themselves standing around and took the moment to appreciate each other... imo it makes much more sense to read it as the concept of their faint ~forbidden love~ and parental pride itself. Or, better yet, the scene at the end of the 4th pantheon. Sorry, but I severely doubt that was an actual event. What I’m trying to get at is the significance of “second place” in the cutscene. My brain is too fried to chase down any other possible connections to this theme rn (if thats even what the theme is), but even without proof, the theory smooths out a few interesting tidbits related to just how Ghost could tough it out when all others failed. All except for #1, anyway. Either way I’m just happy to take this as an excuse to pretend that cutscene didn’t literally happen because like, l m a o

The story of a small group of vessels as they work together to escape hallownest. (aka the aforementioned vessel gang hc... im sure theres a more formal name but you get the idea). Its impossible to tell how long it took them to discover that near-invisible hole, the last exit remaining after the king ordered the abyss to be sealed up. Once they did, however, the remaining vessels were quick to make a desperate scramble to escape- only for the entrance to suddenly crumble shut, far, far too soon. The remaining 8 slowly made their way through deepnest, their numbers quickly dwindling as the jouney started to take its toll. The group was nearly wiped out by those terrible, spiney-legged creatures that used their own kinship against them. Only three finally escaped the deep, yet only two made it through the basin- the third, largest sibling, left to fight alone againt a hopeless battle, just to buy the others time. It was in greenpath, so close yet so far to their goal, that the second succumbed to the infection. It was a mercy killing, that nail through the heart. The last, after all of that, finally made their way to the very precipice of howling cliffs, hesitating for just a moment to gaze out upon the still-fresh ruins of hallownest. But only for a moment, before Ghost jumps down to begin their journey beyond this wretched place.

A vessel running from its shade as it tirelessly pursues them, the vessel refusing to put it to rest.

Ugh ugh ugh ugh Either thk was fully conscious and in terrible pain for all those years... or they couldn’t feel anything at all. The former is horrible, but imagining thk waking up, chained, unable to do anything but wait for Ghost to heed their call? Did they turn their nail on themselves to help Ghost, end the pain, or some awful mix of both? For someone who has personally dealt with close friends and family that struggled with suicide themselves, hollowknight is one of the worst horror stories I've ever seen. And the fact that the story is so personal, so open to interpretation? The fact that each character is so genuine yet vague enough to be read completely differently to someone else’s biases? Its why hollow knight- the game, and the character- will forever be one of the most powerful stories to me.
