#i 100 % think that homeless people are not supported in the right way
Text
Tumblr media
someone has never lived with a coke addict. lmao
no but for real i see these posts a lot and while the basic idea is 100 % correct (drug addiction and homelessness are not personal or moral failures and people affected deserve respect and dignity), they usually take a direction or have implications i dont agree with.
first off, drug addiction is not a class issue. people of all backgrounds are drug addicts. ceos too. so i dont know what this has to do with leftism? as someone who struggles with substance abuse and for that reason has lived with and been around addicts, there are good reasons for people to be biased against them. in active addiction, many people are erratic, unpredictable, and egoistic. being wary of active addicts is self-preservation, not „bourgeois“ or whatever the reference to leftism is supposed to imply. this is also partly a gendered issue because men tend to exhibit addiction, egoism, and aggression at higher rates than women.
secondly, especially at the intersection of homelessness and drug addiction - i see a lot of these posts taking the direction of „mind your business if a homeless man is next to you mumbling to himself“ etc - it seems these people also romanticise what drug addiction with nothing to lose can do to a person. a friend of mine was hit in the face by a homeless man walking by, someone else i know was stabbed by a homeless man after they took him in. just because someone is underprivileged you dont have to stop listening to your insticts and keeping your distance to erratic and intoxicated men who seem like they might do something unpredictable. this doesnt just mean homeless men by the way, i dont trust any men exhibiting this behavior, and yeah would possibly call the cops if someone like that hung around my home or work (never have though).
on the other hand, when a homeless woman was hanging out in the hallway i let her be. my neighbor wanted to call the cops but i told her not to. personally i dont even care if she shoots up there, but if i had kids i might not want her around either.
are homeless drug addicts vulnerable and more likely to be harmed than harm someone else? yeah. do cops and doctors treat homeless people like shit? yeah. these are important conversations to have, but i wish they would happen without romantisation.
talk to any woman who has worked with homeless men, myself included - marginalisation is not virtue. many still harrass and even assault women. and these posts never take a gendered perspective: how most homeless and drug addicted women land in prostitution, how they are not safe in homeless shelters because of the men, etc.
im not saying op here said all of this but from the tone (and the tags and reblogs) it struck me as one of those posts that shames people for being alert around drug addicts and alcoholics when there is ample reason to, especially if youre a woman and theyre a man. and they never take a gendered perspective which is really important in this context, as it usually is.

the average person doesn't expect you to be a perfect ethical consumer, that's not possible for the vast majority of us. but what youre saying is it's better to do nothing at all and choose the worst possible options (sweat shops, overseas shipping waste, idea/product theft, all wrapped up in SHEIN) than to put even the tiniest effort in where you can.
[they are referring to this post]
What I said was "some people are doing literally everything they can to survive and have no extra bandwidth to spend extra time and money on their purchases, and it is cruel and therefore un-punk to gatekeep punkness and add additional shame to these people's lives based on that fact."
I think it's still a good thing to try to ethically consume; I literally never said it wasn't. I had never even heard of SHEIN before. Rather, I am much more concerned about what I saw as arbitrary gatekeeping based on ability and income.
And frankly how dare you claim that I am supporting sweatshops and abuse by saying that this additional work you are demanding (in this case, presumably, vetting every clothing company you buy from) is not always possible for people. It is not a light accusation to accuse me of supporting abuse.
"How dare you say we piss on the poor", Etc. 🙄 this isn't Twitter. You are determined to enforce moral purity, but you are failing to see the nuance.
Because when I say "no extra bandwidth," I mean no extra bandwidth. This is not the "car shows it's on E but actually secretly it has a lot of gas left" situation that abled people constantly assume disabled people mean when they say they are at their limit.
This is "at a certain point, people will hit a wall in terms of money and time and energy, and any energy spent after that comes directly out of their life force."
So the argument "okay but just spend a little more time money and energy actually" is not a valid one.
And the argument "if you are not able to do this specific task, then it means you're not doing anything else to make the world a better place" doesn't exactly impress me either. You said yourself that it is impossible to be a perfectly ethical consumer for most people.
How do you know what else people are doing to resist oppression? How many hours per week until your standards are met?What if someone works 3 jobs? Does that mean it's harder to be a good person if you're poor?? Why do you get to decide what specific avenue of bettering the world is the most morally repugnant or acceptable? What kind of proof of goodness and effort would make you satisfied enough to lay off on the shame?? Who are you helping??
Clothing is a fundamental human need, and some of us have to buy cheap fucking clothes quickly. Billionaires are buying their seventh yacht this month. The people who own fast fashion companies are abusing their workers and putting local affordable clothing stores out of business - and this applies for basically every company with price points that low because governments are failing to regulate corporations to enforce basic human rights.
I have $300 to spend on a new wardrobe as my old clothes have fallen apart or become too small. Do you have a way for me to get a new winter coat, 3 flannels, 10 shirts, 3 dress shirts, new sandals, 10 pairs of pants, 5 bras, 12 pairs of socks, and 10 pairs of underwear within that budget and also definitely 100% ethically sourced, with free returns in case it doesn't fit? Or will I simply have to use the cheap stores?
I have about an hour to spend on this per week. Should I continue to wear small and tattered clothing until I have the time, money, and energy to meet your standards? Did you know there are more empty homes in this country than homeless people? If I decide to splurge on only 100% ethically-produced products, and I can't make rent, and I become homeless, are YOU going to be there for me?? Or are you busy litigating the endless tiny shames of poverty in your own community?
So I ask you again, are you sure this is where you want to direct your punk energy? Because energy and time, as it turns out, are limited resources. And I would never expect you to secretly have more than you claim to have.
#original#punk#hopepunk#cripplepunk#i swear to god#reading comprehension website#how dare you say we piss on the poor#jfc 'what you're saying is we should do nothing' - what I'm saying is YOU are doing nothing by enforcing this boundary#you have to give people more credit than this. i believe you want a better world too. and it would be cool if you used your energy to#instead ask 'how do i fight for the people in my community to be clothed and have the time and income to shop ethically?'#or 'how do i support activism that pushes for regulation that could control these companies?'#monitoring how poor people spend money is a supremely Republican thing to do. as is demanding clear moral purity from every scenario.#you want a better world too. you want to demand your peers do better. - fine. good.#but you need to be asking if you have remembered and included everyone's needs when making statements like this.#capitalism is all for forgetting about poor and disabled people and refusing to believe their limits.#shame is a necessary weapon in fighting greed but it IS a weapon. be so careful where you point that shit. enough shame can kill a person#and a lot of us are already defending from it from all sides.#shaming a person who is already at their limit for not doing more is an act of cruelty. think very carefully about what that means please.#i literally don't even know what SHEIN is lol i just know classism when i see it#but I've had friends whose clothes were visibly falling apart with no income and so much so shame so deep in their hearts they were dying#and if they had seen that post it would have made them even sicker and gotten them no closer to the dignity of being properly clothed#shame is a weapon and /you need to be careful!!!!/

By the way, when I say that the American church has FAILED, this is what I'm talking about:
The email I sent to Focus on the Family a couple weeks ago, identifying information redacted:
Hello,
My name is [redacted] and I followed a link to one of your website's articles - about Biblical discipline - and saw the massive donation solicitation banner at the top of the website, saying any donations would go to families in need.
My mother is very much in need.
She is 61 and severely disabled, mentally and physically. In 2016 she had a stroke, which type has a 70% death rate and of the remaining 30%, the vast majority never recover any cognitive or physical function. She is a medical outlier in that she recovered both - through odds so astronomical it is a blatant miracle she survived at all - to some degree. But now her cognitive abilities are declining, as well as her mobility and eyesight: she is effectively 100% disabled.
She is also currently undergoing an eviction since she can no longer pay rent. She had planned to move into her car, but earlier this week it had an oil/engine failure that will require about $7,000 of work to repair. Her insurance would pay for it, save that she has a $1,000 deductible she cannot afford.
She gets $914 a month in disability.
I am a single mother of three boys five and under; my husband has walked out on us and does not pay child support and I cannot get any legal division to enforce it. I make $1,000 a month, and also do not own a car or have any sort of transportation. I order her groceries online and try to get small expenses for her when I can, and that is the most aid I am currently able to offer.
Right now she just needs her car repaired. But we do not have $1,000 for that deductible.
We have spent weeks calling every phone number and resource in the area and even the state. The churches send us to the government, the government sends us to the NGOs, the NGOs send us to the churches. No one helps.
Your website claims you help families. I looked under the "get help" tab and found nothing of any use, hence this email.
Will you help my family?
Sincerely,
~~~~
I got this in return:
Dear [Redacted],
Thank you for writing to Focus on the Family. Your willingness to share your concerns means a lot to us, and we want you to know we care about you, your dear mother, and your children.
Our hearts are heavy after reading about the serious financial problems your disabled mother is facing right now. We’re especially concerned to hear that her car has broken down and she has no place to call home. Though we realize you’ve already asked for assistance from churches and a number of organizations, we recommend you contact the Salvation Army. You can visit their website at: Salvation Army: Housing and Homeless Services. We’d also like to mention three more online sources of information: National Coalition for the Homeless,  2-1-1 Get Help,  Catholic Charities USA. We can’t guarantee that they will be able to provide the help you need, nor can we say with certainty that they consistently uphold Christian values and ethics. Nevertheless, we think it would be worthwhile to find out what services are available. Please note that our mentioning these organizations should not be taken as an endorsement by our ministry.
Be assured we’re praying for the Lord to comfort your mother, provide for her many needs, and lead her to a safe place to live. We’re also asking God to surround you and your three young sons with caring people who will offer their support and help you in practical ways.
Along with praying for you, we invite you to call the Christian counselors on our staff if you think it might be helpful to discuss your concerns with caring professionals. They might be able to offer additional suggestions and useful referral information. To reach them, please call 1-855-771-HELP (4357) any weekday between 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. (MT). Someone on our staff will ask for your name and phone number in order to arrange for a counselor to return your call as soon as they’re able. This service is available at no cost to you.
[Redacted], we understand you contacted our ministry because you saw a banner on our website indicating that all donations to our ministry are used to help families in need.  In order to provide clarification, we need to explain that the purpose of our ministry is to respond to the spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs of individuals and families. We do this by praying, providing books and other resources, airing broadcasts that address the serious issues many people face, and offering one free consultation with a professional Christian counselor on our staff. The financial contributions we receive are used to accomplish these objectives.
While it’s true that our ministry has been privileged on occasion to provide financial assistance to those experiencing hardships, our capacity to do this is limited as we are primarily a media ministry. Unfortunately, as much as we would like to, we’re not always able to offer monetary aid to the many individuals and families whose needs are brought to our attention. We’re so sorry to disappoint you.
Thanks again for writing to us, [Redacted]. God bless you and your loved ones, and may He always be the strength of your heart and your refuge.
[Redacted]
Focus on the Family
I'll hand it to the Catholics. They do try. But their assistance is focused primarily on Catholics - quite understandable - and within their own parishes - equally understandable.
You might as well ask a brick wall for help as any Protestant church. Actually the brick wall probably at least won't - more or less literally - slam a door in your face.
I know good and well that my mother, my family, is not the only one in such dire straits. There is nowhere to turn - least of all our 'brothers' and 'sisters'.
One of these days the leaders of all these churches - these vastly wealthy mega churches and the haughty local churches and all of them - are going to have to answer to Christ about all the blood on their hands of their own people they left to starve and freeze and die in the streets.
(I'd bet good money - if I had any - that they'll have the money to put on a Christmas pageant this year.)
Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Season 2: Episode 10 Review
- Starting off the episode with a mass murder, beautiful. Though the good thing is that there’s a cool down period so if we can draw out the fight long enough, we may be able to win
- Chuchu begging Secelia despite her being a Spacian, how far we’ve come. And the fact that she hooks her boy Rouji up to get some tech info is also great.
- Felsi is the best girl and I will accept no disagreements. The way Earth House just adopts her like a homeless puppy is funny. Also the fact that she was so willing to do something besides wait for Petra to get better is great. She is the ultimate kusogaki as she is the only one going to the final battle.
- GOD DAMN IT ANIME GIVE ME YOUNG ELAN FOOTAGE!
- I’m guess the backstory was cut due to time constraints but I just want to see who the Elan’s were before they’re unfortunate unpersoning. However, we were still given delicious 5nore crumbs so I will accept it. It’s interesting how El5n stated El4n was the lucky one despite earlier in the series saying he was unfortunate. He finally realized that even though El4n died, he had someone who loved him, and now he knows just how important his actions towards Norea were. His line about envy could be directed at either Norea, Suletta, or El4n, and I hope he finds his own self separate from the Elan persona that had been forced on him
- Suletta and Guel’s duel was so stupid but so adorable. It really hammers home how they’re still children and they’ll do childish things. Also Guel 100% threw that duel, or at least they animated it so it was clear Guel knew how to fence but Suletta was just floundering. He’s the ultimate supporter of lesbians and I love him for that. Please G-Witch, give him a boyfriend. Also Guel slapping himself to remind himself not to butt in on SuleMio’s affairs, lol.
- The talk between Suletta and Miorine with slash playing in the background was just *chef’s kiss* perfect. Right or wrong, and even if there’s nothing to gain, Suletta wants to move forward. And she wants to move forward with Miorine. They have to face their problems head on. They lock fingers, willing to move on together.
- Guess they didn’t have the money for Delling’s VA. But it is nice to see a realistic depiction of a coma patient. Though I’m not sure if he appreciates being yelled at after he wakes up
- What is Prospera searching for? It can’t be the Calibarn. Is it something special Notrette made? And who removed it?
- What deal did she make with Shaddiq? Is she taking his harem squad? Did she plan to work with him on Earth?
- The fact that the tomato is literally embedded with love in its very DNA is beautiful. The tomato has always represented love in this series, and here we see that it’s very creation was because of Miorine’s mother’s love for her.
- Poor Suletta is struggling hard in that Gundam, but also it’s the coolest suit in the show so far. IT HAS A FREAKING BROOM. SHE IS LITERALLY THE WITCH FROM MERCURY. RECLAIM THE SLUR
- Suletta is talented. Aerial used to overshadow as we didn’t know how much handholding Eri was doing, but this proves she’s great even without it. But I don’t think it’ll be enough to defeat Eri all by herself. She needs others to help her. They all need to come together and create a better future!
- Lauda, my son, please stop this. We are destroying the Death Star right now. Have your angst moment later. And dear god don’t make your brother kill you, and don’t die of heatstroke like a dog in a car with the Schwarzette. I’ve seen some people say Guel might die but I reject that reality. After all the suffering he’s been out through, he needs to live.
I feel like we’re in a weird space where there both could and couldn’t be a second half. We have a lot to wrap up, but also we’re closing up Suletta and Miorine’s personal journeys. Though I hope we do get the second half and have it focus on Earth and the Space League. And maybe we’ll get to kill Peil while we’re at it
oh wow just actually went to your blog home and saw your pinned post for the first time? you are a sickening little individual and i would like to wish the worst for you. You're on the mutual aid website, bitch.
Brother this isn’t the mutual aid website this is the hellsite and as I explained in the pinned post you’re misrepresenting, I fully support people crowdfunding, I know that it is an unfortunate necessity in this day and age.
However, coming into someone’s asks/messages/reblogs when you’ve never spoken to them even in passing and then begging for money, especially when you don’t know their situation and you don’t know how it will affect them, is disgusting. It’s not our job to fund anyone else but ourself.
Now is it nice, polite and kind to give to charities or to those in need when and if you have the extra cash or if you can donate or volunteer time? Absolutely! It’s part of human nature to care for one another.
But to have it be an expectation, to have some random internet stranger who hasn’t even bothered to attempt a basic conversation (hello, how are you, how’s life treating you etc) show up out of nowhere and pretty much demand that you give them money, and then guilt trip you before you’ve even had a chance to confirm deny or offer other help is absolutely disgusting, it’s a low blow, especially on a site where most of the userbase is poor, disadvantaged, disabled or unsafe for other reasons.
The tactics used by scammers are the exact same ones on desplay in these ebegging situations, think Nigerian princes of the new age. Half the population of tumblr are teens who haven’t experienced scams yet, or they’re so compassionate and willing to give more than they have just so someone else can survive.
Not that it’s your business, but I have been struggling to even pay rent and buy food for the past couple years, I’ve spent months sewing up the same pair of jeans and living off of plain white rice, hell I was nearly homeless at one point because my finances were so bad. And then I get ten different cases of randoms on the internet trying to make me feel guilty because I can’t give them 100 dollars, buddy if I had 100 quid it wouldn’t be going to anything but food or rent.
And also as I mentioned in the pinned post, I don’t wish any hate or mistreatment to these people. Because most of them are just humans struggling to get by, they’re just going about it in a shitty way.
Everyone struggles and trust me once I win the lottery I’ll donate to every charity case I can find but until then arseholes like you and all those fake ebegging cunts can fuck right off.
A Portland doctor said a homeless man knocked her unconscious while walking in the city, and then she waited more than 20 minutes without a police response.
"I do not hold the police accountable for this at all — I hold our city accountable for defunding the police," Mary Costantino, a radiologist, told Fox News. "We don't have enough police force to protect our citizens, and we did this to ourselves."
CRIME TURNED PORTLAND INTO A ‘HOLLOWED OUT SHELL.’ ITS NEIGHBORS ARE TRYING TO KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING TO THEM
The attack happened shortly after 10:30 Friday night. One minute, Costantino was walking in Southwest Portland with a friend. The next, she woke up on the ground, blood pouring out of her mouth. She was sure she was about to be killed and immediately dialed 911.
"I thought we were still being sort of attacked in some way," Costantino said. "I was like, 'I'm going to just try to verbalize a report of what's happening, so there's some record of how I died.'"
As the situation cleared, Costantino realized she was not dying. She had been struck in the face by an aluminum water bottle hurled by a man, she said. There had been no yelling, no sign of danger to give Costantino time to defend herself. She credits her friend with saving her from further harm.
"He said that the perpetrator … was still coming towards me," she said. "And he turned around and really aggressively yelled at him and the guy ran away."
"Had it not been for this person being with me, it would have, I think, been a lot worse," Costantino added.
A spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau confirmed the incident, telling Fox News in an email that TriMet surveillance video "captured what appears to be the unprovoked and brutal attack." Officers were dispatched at 10:55 p.m. — about 20 minutes after Costantino says she was struck — and arrived at the scene eight minutes after that, according to Sheppard.
By then, Costantino had already given up and gone home.
"If we don't have police officers to come to the side of somebody who is under attack, then we're all on our own," Costantino said.
Her situation is not unusual. Portlanders have faced increasingly long police response times for years. The average for a high-priority call was 23.7 minutes in July, according to PPB data, the longest wait in more than a decade.
"Our goal is always to help as much as we can, as quickly as we can. But with our staffing being at historic lows, this has become a challenge for us," Lt. Nathan Sheppard told Fox News in an email.
"At the time this call came in, our officers were actively on 26 calls throughout the city," he wrote. "There were 0 free officers and another 52 calls holding."
The bureau has about 80 sworn vacancies, down from more than 100 in September.
"Our officers joined the Police Bureau to help people, and when they are unable, it takes a toll," Sheppard wrote. "We’re continuing to hire, so there’s definitely hope, and things WILL get better."
"I am heartbroken that my dear friend Mary was so badly hurt," said Kristin Olson, an outspoken critic of Oregon politics who first shared Costantino’s story on her podcast, "Rational in Portland." "Portlanders have a right and a reasonable expectation to peacefully move about this city without fear that they will be assaulted as they walk down the street."
Costantino said seeing the deterioration of public safety in Portland "100%" changed her voting habits.
"I absolutely did not vote for Jo Ann Hardesty," she said, referring to a previous city commissioner who supported defunding the police in 2020. In the governor’s election, she cast her vote for Republican Christine Drazan.
✨2024 goals✨:
1) Don't let your country fall into a fascist state
Show up for your community
Join library's event and groups
Join your university's events and groups
Speak up against injustices (if it safe to do so)
Make sure your workplace respects yours and your colleagues rights
Be kind to strangers
Show up at protests (if/when it's safe)
If you engage in a debate with the opposite party: be safe, be calm, don't let them get to your nerves
Help old people
Listen to teens
Talk to people who seem lonely
More in person action, less social media activism
Be kind to the homeless, if you have the possibility some spare change can make the difference
If you can join a volunteer organization
2) Help fighting climate change
STOP BUYING THINGS YOU DON'T NEED
Stop using shein, temu, amazon and all the e-commerce apps and websites of the sort
Buy local and in person. This applies for food and objects as well
If you have the space and the time try growing easy vegetables
Recycle and demand your country/state/region/city to actually dispose of waste in a safe way and to actually recycle
Instead of throwing away your old clothes give them to others, friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, charities
Try to avoid buying plastic products. (I understand this can be impossible sometimes but if you have alternatives pls consider them)
Demand your government for environmental friendly politics and demand them now
Boycott brands that greenwash their products
Take care of your garden, plants, the grass at the park
Stop buying from brands who pollute water (fuck nestle)
Stop buying from brands who promote child labor and slavery (fuck nestle)
Demand for better public transportation
Try to fix the objects that break instead of buying new ones
Don't buy another car if yours works fine
Read what things are made of, clothes, foods etc
If there are protests join them!
3) Improve mental health
Less screen time
Unfollow anyone you think has a perfect life, a perfect house, a perfect partner, a perfect career, a perfect body. Unfollow any aesthetic blogs. Life isn't like that anyway
Anyone who tells you you can fix your life with just enough motivation is lying to you
You just need the right diet/outfit/skin routine/face symmetry/... Lies! ALL LIES!! You need a support system.
The good news, if you don't have a support system is that, is that making friends isn't as hard as it seems I promise.
Lots and lots of people are feeling lonely right now, everybody is looking for a sense of community, build one
Try a new hobby, or continue with another one
Read something, not like everyday, or that you have to reach a book quota, read anything magazines, fanfictions, instructions...
Sometimes the world seems against you, but it's not
Don't panic
Talk with your friends
Talk with your family
Make new friends and/or a new family if the current ones sucks
Walk a little bit every day
Get out of the house
Ask for help if you need it, even if you think it's something stupid, I promise people won't roll their eyes and be pissed about it
You're a complex organism, you need to eat
4) Career
It's always okay to waste company's time and money
Ask for a raise even if you don't think you deserve one
Never give your 100%
Be friendly with your colleagues (you're in the same boat)
Don't do things that are obviously dangerous just because "they've always done it like that" . You have the right to be safe
Always check the company's benefits
In many countries is actually illegal to get fired on the spot. Workers have rights, and if they don't they should demand them
Unionize. If you can't/don't want to at least talk with your colleagues about the problems you all are facing
You don't owe your workplace the truth about your lifestyle and your identity
5) Manifesting
Remember that is always morally right to celebrate when horrible people die
It's also always morally correct to wish for billionaires, politicians, CEOs, and dictators to die
6) Be the change
- Vote. One of the most important things you can do is to VOTE
I know politicians all look the same and it feels like compromising your ethics. But it's not like that. The only ones gaining something from your absence at the polls are the fascists!!
Spread awareness about the injustices, not only online but in your circle as well.
Donate when you can
Protest
Demand your government to take action
it's very very funny (lying) that my ex Vagues Me In Tags Of Posts and CONTINUES to act like I am evil and bad and "not moving on" for talking abt the shit he did to me!!! yea it was inflammatory but there's not really a way to make "this guy is a serial liar + emotionally abusive + also rapes dogs maybe don't give him a platform where he can easily target more people" NOT inflammatory. I dont understand how on other websites people care abt that shit but here I guess it's fine as long as you make enough Funny Posts right?
innes entered a relationship with me in the direct aftermath (which he was 100% aware of, he'd been there for me the like. whole time.) of a relationship that was so abusive I fucking feared for my life
he EXPLICITLY did this because I was vulnerable & scared & needed someone to be there for me, and I'm betting he saw me as a means to an end, that end being "getting out of his abusive grandmother's house for good" bc while homeless I was on a multitude of waiting lists for public housing and other support like that. which he knew, bc I told him. I'd thought abt offering "hey do you want to be roommates" to him before we started dating but iirc he is the one who brought it up when we decided to start working on making it a reality
he would also lead me to pursuing some inheritance from my grandfather who passed away almost a decade ago now which was under the control of my father for Reasons. we were going to use it to buy a house together. the quantity of this inheritance cost my (pending, but I was several years into the process and SO CLOSE to receiving) SSI, cost me some other public assistance I was receiving too but that's the big one. I'm having to restart the entire process from the start now.
I saved and saved and saved for him. pre-inheritance I literally had set a fund aside, specifically to buy him plane tickets if shit ever hit the fan & also to help with other costs if needbe. I worked really hard to save that money through commissions & doing online transcription that only pays $6/hr. I worked and worked and worked and worked for that man.
I helped him get on food stamps, I was happy to help him find a good therapist, good doctor, everything. and then he just took a huge shit on everything I did and the entire relationship and I found out he'd been lying for almost 2 months abt seeing a therapist, and then when I got mad about being mistreated and lied to, that's when he started to act like I was this evil and malicious person. because I confronted him. because I didn't just sleep and let it happen. classic textbook abuser behavior
but even then at the time I didn't realize "hey this is abuse" bc I was just so caught up in it, I was so wrapped up around him and had planned my entire future around him. I don't think he EVER did the same for me, which was why it was so easy for him to repeatedly cheat on me, lie to me, and then decide he didn't want to be around someone with a pussy bc that would make him bisexual and he's a homosexual u see. his words not mine!
idk I think it's valid to maybe question the intent of someone who claims to be trans immediately after their ex calls them out for being abusive. especially when some of that abuse surrounded my own transness & gender identity. but I guess because I don't have fucking screenshots of phone calls and discord calls it ~didn't happen~, like way to continue the fucking gaslighting
Your post about the You're Having My Baby moment made me remember how Kurt was directly involved with that which is my least favorite Kurt moment. If the Glee writers gave a shit about continuity and their characters, Kurt would have immediately regretted egging Finn on after realizing the consequences and apologized to Quinn. I also think should have invited Quinn to stay with him and Burt. Then Quinn could've had an organic seasons-long friendship with Kurt and Mercedes that had time to develop.
And the best part of this scenario would be Quinn could be angry at Finn because she wouldn't be relying on him for shelter anymore. I doubt the writers actually considered why Quinn wouldn't be angry towards Finn for that stunt because in their minds Finn could do no wrong and she was lying about the paternity so she had it coming. But it still makes sense that her being reliant on him completely right after he blew up her life would make it hard for her to deal with her feelings. Plus, she felt guilty about lying to Finn so she probably figured she deserved it. But I think in a different environment with a solid support system (Kurtcedes) she would have been able to let herself be angry and upset about it. Anyway, I definitely agree that Finn should've faced consequences for that dumbass stunt and I honestly think it was unrealistic that Kurt didn't feel guilty about using Quinn as a pawn to get to Finn. The other things he did (Rachel's makeover and introducing Barole) were minor and positive in comparison, but enabling Finn to ruin Quinn's life was a step too far and seeing the consequences in action definitely would've had an effect. As a gay teen in a conservative town with a masculine dad, I'm sure Kurt worried about ending up homeless before he came out, and playing a part in that happening to someone else would definitely mess him up.
Just to be clear, I don't think Kurt is as responsible for what happened as Finn. Kurt egged him on but Finn made the decision to do what he did. Finn should 100% have been held responsible for being an idiot who casually fucks up people's lives. I just think that the way things played out also did a disservice to Kurt's character because he showed no reaction to learning that something he helped facilitate led to his classmate losing her home and family.
Very sorry I'm only getting to this now but first off, thanks for all these thoughts! I was in fact hoping someone would wanna talk about You're Having My Baby haha.
I’m glad you bring Kurt’s part in it up because I think it’s my least favourite thing he’s ever done. One of the things I hated the most in this episode is how we’re pretending this is Finn’s truth to tell and that it’s good he got it off his chest. And Kurt was much more aware of the consequences than Finn and still egged him on. Something, ANYTHING from him after Quinn gets disowned as a result would have been nice. Oh to have had a Kuinn friendship. Especially because his comments about Quinn are again my least favourite parts of season 1 Kurt. I like that he’s flawed but let’s portray this whole situation as a flaw, too.
You know what the issue is, is that the show treats this as Finn’s storyline. The whole damn pregnancy in season 1A is about Finn, Will, Puck, Terri, and THEN about Quinn. Fucking ridiculous. And so you have things like Ballad, where Quinn’s suffering is secondary, her parents were bound to find out. Judy already knew by the time Finn started singing. But the thing that absolutely disgusts me is that it wasn’t Finn’s truth to tell. Quinn having lied to him doesn’t justify it and fuck Glee for never acknowledging how fucked up this was. Quinn was traumatized for life but I guess Finn felt lighter after having told the Fabrays so happy fucking days. I hate him.
But anyway, back to Kurt. Kuinncedes as a friendship trio would have made so much sense and could have developed so organically in season 1. I think it would have been so good for Kurt to be allowed to have that moment of realization and reach out. If only Glee viewed Quinn’s pain as valid. And yes, please allow her to be angry! She was so helpless from that moment on until she moved in with Mercedes. Having Kurt be a part of that storyline, especially because they had him get involved already in Ballad would really round it out. But again, the show doesn’t care about Quinn’s story. Boggles the mind that people think Quinn’s story was done well in season 1 but that’s a convo for another day.
So true about Kurt having a unique point of reference and feeling of empathy, too. Sure, Burt ended up being a thousand times better than Russell Fabray could ever be but Kurt still lived in fear for a while. In general I think it’s whack that Kurt is shown to be compassionate time and again but for some reason Kuinn interactions are almost always void of that. Whyyy Glee. I remember bringing up Kuinn a while back and annoying anons came out of the woodwork lol so maybe I won’t revive that conversation but suffice to say I’m really fucking mad at their 3x14 convo. It doesn’t represent either of them well and what they could have been.
At the end of the day, 100%, it was Finn’s fault and his stupid ass never faced any consequences so he just kept ignoring people’s agency and doing whatever the fuck he wanted while ruining lives. But I am glad you brought this up because it’s a super uncomfortable part of the story that Kurt knowingly egged him on and never had a moment of reflection after Quinn literally lost her home as a result. I don’t think what he did was necessarily a disservice because it’s a good flawed moment, very calculative and emblematic of his Slytherin self which shines the most in season 1. But I also agree that not having a moment of reflection did do him a disservice. Let Finn be the ass that he is, whatever, but not having even Kurt realize the weight of this clearly communicated that the narrative didn’t give two shits about Quinn. I could scream endlessly about how messed up this is.
She asked why I never go by the library so I told her that old pale security guard that is always inside to be the stanford privilege tries to kill me with new security.....if any security was woman and raced like me they all refused the position and left quickly and thats what they want from people people educated in science who quickly assess the dangers sue them and leave
Campesinas who immediately want their land rights
I explained that I think it's the United States learning from things like China to taiwan to crisis populations to accept ecological compromise because there was like 100s of people through there so I don't take it personally.....
Areas like pacific beach appear to have a history of pretty riotous capability.............and decolonial ability to it so it looks like a long time energy companies would cause shock disease so they accept compromise with federal agriculture
There is an energy about pacific beach that they can be very uncompromising that they only want environmental decisions
The library staff also there use to be a much larger staff and much more beautiful surrounding park and landscapers just went and destroyed it just for the pornography of it....you may be have women around you who should apologize for letting their trafficker find them at a domestic abuse support area
No im from the states men who try to steal me from white life are nature freaks that want me to support massive pre history forests and it doesn't work that way
Olive oatman....
That's why I have learned forgiving the parents they look kind of too intelligenced to me as a child and they could like want me
And that tobacco really reeked.......uhm they want a very back woods film production house in the deep south
Anyway a lot of the staff left and now there is just a few people as staff there all the time......
And because it was Monique I tried to emphasize though I have read the bluest eye black people are not hired as staff there their placed in traditional discrimination like the security roles so I have learned as poor white I am in very grave danger if people don't give negroes their common law rights
If it's that notorious of a segregationist that they won't give black people from the surrounding neighborhood a common job at the library then that segregationist isolates and slaughters white people if it can
Then it kind of became only a few staff then I started getting weaker and weaker and more threats then I started hearing things after they told me no sleeping is allowed and being suggested to lash out at staff.....so I'm sorry but I have Jeanne guyan and im not going to retaliate or fight anyone
Anyway the current staff I don't think is all that honest I think they need private income in pornography not sex work....or sex artistry or a more dignified statement....i think they can't have things here without gang sex trafficking
They act like white privilege and that their just demonstrating like rubi bridges and I don't think that's true I think I was suggested to retaliate because a pornographer or cop will try to kill them and tried to blame me for it......
Its been my experience that if homeless people can't travel through then the project should be shut down.....the square bloc area appears like it relieves a lot of the torture from tools from the car fascists and it's illusory if homeless can't go then they should shut the building down permanently and start a different project there
They claim the adjacent building is Methodist but that doesn't make sense completely to me I think they use to be Jewish.....and Jewish criminals or crime can get into adolph hitler about forcing illegal labor
I did a class a mooc from rutgers and some methodists report that they feel brain washed in those areas all the time
Also to add on, I find it hilarious I’ve devoured Catch The Wind twice now but it took me so long to finish LBL. (Ignoring the fact that I have like 100 tabs open the majority of which is a03. Things do tend to get lost)
Answering both of your asks in one here -- I hope you don't mind!
To be completely honest, when HTWA is done, I'm done writing in that fandom. Too much has happened for me to feel? Comfortable? Writing in it anymore? Like it's too hurtful to people I care about, and I've always sort of reasoned it privately as that JK hates fanfic so it's not like she'd be pleased by it either, but even that reasoning just doesn't sit right with me anymore. I feel like there are so many other things that I can and want to write, too, things that offer new challenges, that it's just never going to be worth folk I love being hurt by it. That's also why I don't really promote those fics the same way I do the others.
I considered abandoning HTWA because of it a while ago, but in the end I decided to stick it out 'til the end of that story as a thank you to the very supportive folk who'd been there since the beginning of LBL all those years ago, and who had stuck with the pairing through the homeless debacle, and because I'd already written so much of it, but then call it a day on that fandom once it was done. Writing an ending for that story and then not starting any new ones in that fandom feels like the best compromise I could do on that score.
I know I have the first few chapters of a Sirius fic up, but even if I didn't have those reservations I don't know if I'd go back to it. From a bare bones writing standpoint, no fic I ever write with him ends up being any good, so it's not a great loss in that regard, honestly. She's Electric was my second attempt - the first was dire, and this one was better but still not particularly great.
LBL will always have emotional value to me because I think I improved so much through the process of writing it, it was the first long-scale fic I wrote when I set myself the goal of writing every single day years ago, so it was the first fic that really dusted off the cobwebs of a writing habit that was then very dusty. I think that's why I like CTW more - the cobwebs were gone by then, and I think my ability started to really shine in that story, whereas the brushstrokes were a lot more clear (to me, at least) with LBL.
The feedback I got on that one really helped the novel work a lot though - I was soooo heavy on the introspection, especially in early chapters, and people very kindly pointed out that it was a bit much, and I noticed it was a bad habit that really bloated the novel work, too, so that was a nice learning moment.
Thank you for checking them out, and for the lovely response to them! I'm glad you enjoyed them and I highly appreciate it! 💜
So this is a random mini-rant but I need to say this: if your family is -phobic/racist/etc. in private, they will be that way in public, and it is your responsibility to shut that shit down.
(If you are no contact with your family, if you are dependent on them, if you are a child, please take this with a grain of salt. Family relations are so complicated and I'm talking about the large group of us that has family that we're not close to but we do talk to that says and does things that are not okay, but we keep quiet because it doesn't directly attack us and we've been taught that silent complacency is a virtue when it is not.)
BIPOC, disabled, poor, women, LGBTQIA+, etc. should all be the primary focus of conversations surrounding their lives, rights, and experience and that means that if we're not members of the community our primary job is to listen, not speak. It is 100% true- an actually autistic voice should be listened to far more than an autistic ally and so on. But when you're in private and you're talking to your family and they say something that you know is wrong, it is up to you to correct them.
I saw this trending a few years ago when BIPOC creators were saying 'fuck your racist grandma' and like- yeah! You guys, we have to clean up our own shit. You don't always get to choose your family, and if you're a child or you depend on them for necessities then maybe you don't have a choice but to shut up. (Don't end up homeless over this!) However, so many of us have family members who are some flavor of conservative nut job and when we don't say something and correct them then we are complicit in the damage that they contribute to and cause. So many of us are in a position to say something, to do something, and we don't because we've been taught not to since we were very young. "That's just the way they are." Is not the acceptable excuse that we thought it was.
(If my 94+ year old white mema from rural Texas can call Michelle Obama a 'neat lady' and learn not to use slurs, then anyone can.)
This is something that goes 10x for those of us who are parents, because we're setting an example for our kids. (To a certain extent, there is also a value to being the reliable adult for the children we are related to but not parents to, but this isn't a responsibility in the same fashion.) So even when they are not around we cannot allow hate and dangerous misinformation to spread because then our family, their family while they are children and not as aware of the complexities of family relations (I mean how many of us thought our racist grandma's were harmless cuties until we grew older?), will think it is acceptable to say around them. And if they say it around them and we don't shut it down immediately? They notice. They pay attention.
Anyway that's my current rage, because I just corrected someone that I know on transphobic rhetoric and I'm so disappointed in them and fiercely unwilling to continue to be complicit like so many of us cis-white people are raised to be, especially white cis-women who are historically complicit in the destruction of people who have fought for our rights only to support a racist patriarchy that will destroy us too.
Fuck I'm mad. I hope this makes sense.
Bernie Sanders: ‘They Can Survive Just Fine’: Bernie Sanders Says Income Over $1bn Should Be Taxed At 100%
The independent Vermont senator argued against unfettered capitalism in an interview with journalist Chris Wallace
— Ramon Antonio Vargas | Tuesday 2 May 2023
The US government should confiscate 100% of any money that Americans make above $999m, the leftwing independent senator Bernie Sanders said late last week.
Sanders expressed that belief in an exchange on Friday evening with the host of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? on HBO Max.
Wallace had asked Sanders about the general assertion in his book It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism that billionaires should not exist.
“Are you basically saying that once you get to $999m that the government should confiscate all the rest?” Wallace asked the US senator from Vermont, who is an independent but caucuses with Democrats and has helped them attain their current slim majority in the upper congressional chamber.
“Yeah,” Sanders replied. “You may disagree with me but, fine, I think people can make it on $999m. I think that they can survive just fine.”
Wallace had earlier mentioned how the late Sam Walton could make the giant retail chain Walmart the largest single private employer in the US thanks to his family’s net worth of about $225bn. Sanders countered that Walmart in many cases pays starvation wages to its 1.2 million employees despite how rich the Waltons are.
“Many of their workers are on Medicaid or food stamps,” Sanders said, referring to forms of government assistance for which low-income Americans can qualify. “In other words, taxpayers are subsidizing the wealthiest family in the country. Do I think that’s right? No, I don’t.”
Nonetheless, Sanders said his comments on the matter weren’t a personal attack against the Waltons or other billionaires.
“It is an attack upon a system,” Sanders said. “You can have a vibrant economy without [a few] people owning more wealth than the bottom half of American society” combined.
He added that if he were in charge: “If you make a whole lot of money, you’re going to pay a whole lot of money.”
Sanders’s remarks are unlikely to ingratiate him with proponents of the US political right who already dismiss him as a communist. But they have never been a part of his base of supporters.
The 81-year-old has held one of Vermont’s US Senate seats since 2007. He had spent the previous 16 years representing the state in the US House of Representatives, helping him become the longest-serving independent in American congressional history.
Sanders, who has previously run unsuccessfully to become a Democratic presidential candidate, published It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism in February. In it, he notes that one-tenth of 1% of the US population owns 90% of the nation’s wealth, among other things.
He also argues that “unfettered capitalism … destroys anything that gets in its way in the pursuit of profits”, including the environment, democracy and human rights.
On Friday, Sanders told Wallace that he believes “people who work hard and create businesses should be rich”, but the concept of some being billionaires offended him deeply when a half-million Americans are homeless and 85 million of them cannot afford to buy health insurance.
I think toga is beyond saving; she terrorizes people and can't handle criticism of her crimes. If she doesn't end up dead then it's basically okay for her to kill because she's sad
Hi anon! Thanks for the ask. Sorry this got really long, but you did give the question and this is my answer that I hope you’ll consider:
I guess the ‘Toga Should Die’ opinion depends whether you think it’s okay to let a legal minor/child (she’s 17 years old, age of adulthood is 20 years old in Japan, she can’t be tried in adult court; even if we use 18 years old as the line, she’s still younger than that, and in Japanese law, no person under 18 years of age can receive a death penalty) get killed whether directly or indirectly without trying one’s best and exhausting all other options, and only as an ultimate last resort. I dunno about you, but I think Heroes can manage that. You’re telling me there’s absolutely no Hero in Japan that can defeat and capture a 17-year-old girl that’s often just armed with a knife? Even if she currently has Twice’s power, I think it’s still possible to circumvent that and capture her alive.
I don’t doubt that could happen - her dying - but that’d be a tragedy, not justice, because again, she’s a 17 year old minor that’s been homeless since 15 years old and the fact she hasn’t been found and arrested and given help is on the Heroes for their gross incompetency. Her death could not be right in any sense of the word because a society where a child must be killed instead of being safely subdued and helped and protected, is a broken society that has completely failed its duties, probably by being unable to accept any criticism over the past 100+ years as well as neglecting and allowing harm to come to its people.
If Toga dies, then it’s like basically saying it’s okay to allow Heroes to let a child to get killed because they can’t be bothered to enforce human rights correctly. I would consider that an atrocious crime that Hero Society will have to face responsibility for after they’ve ‘won’ the war.
Why do you think Toga is beyond saving anyways? What makes you think a 17-year-old kid with a still developing brain; who has shown clear signs of empathy, regret, and willingness to talk to someone for advice about her internal conflicts so that it’s entirely possible to give her therapy that can help her cope with compulsions and avoid maladaptive behaviors and clear the way to an understanding of herself and the things she did wrong; who managed to control herself for 15 years without any support from parents who either at best was so detached from her that they didn’t notice she bites herself hard enough to draw blood, and at worst just straight up knew but didn’t bother to get her help; who’s main motivations in life is to 1) make the world easier to live in (suggesting that accommodations and support can help with just that) and 2) find connection, love, acceptance, and trust from others (even if they are her enemies); what makes you think she’s beyond help?
Especially when no one has even tried to work with her?
It’s true she is part of a terrorist cell and she didn’t like it when people say she can’t live as she pleases (committing crime); it’s just personally I don’t think that warrants the death penalty, especially for a kid, especially if she can be captured without killing her and then be given help. I don’t think the next 50+ years of her life should be taken away without trying to turn those decades into something beneficial to the world.
Anon, you say: “if she doesn’t end up dead, then it’s basically okay for her to kill because she’s sad.” Which is another way of saying, ‘If she dies, then we’ve proven it’s not okay for her to kill because she’s sad.’ Which in turn is saying, “if Toga dies, that would be right and just.”
You’re speaking of fairness. ‘It’s not fair if she lives. It’s only fair that she dies.’
I admit I don’t know if it’s fair or not. Fair to who? Fair based on what factors? How do you measure that, and how to balance the scale? By the amount of suffering? Lives lost? Futures?
I don’t think it’s fair that Toga is a homeless teenager, disowned by her parents, abandoned by society, having to learn how to fight and survive on the streets, feeling like Heroes and police might just kill her if they ever catch her - and how this was all preventable if she got proper care from social services, which apparently don’t exist or they do exist but have failed.
I think it’s even more unfair that a child can experience this in a world where there is a Hero school that apparently have funds in the millions; where a revenge-seeking student can go rogue to attempt murder but gets off because the police chief is willing to bend the rules for him, thus preventing him from falling further into a bad situation; where these students can call themselves Heroes helping the common people when they live on a massive campus that’s fortified by a high tech wall so they’re basically in an ivory tower without lacking for food, housing, education, and safety and ultimately cut off from ever thinking about those who fall through the cracks of society, whose success is dependent on beating up these exact people that fell through the cracks.
Do I think the scales are balanced because Toga at least finally got to experience some happiness while in the League? No. Do I think the scales are balanced because Toga’s misfortune is now everyone’s misfortune as well? Also no. Do I think another set of scales will be balanced because Toga’s one life can make up for, let’s say, the hundred lives she took? No, that’s hardly fair to those surviving families, but it’s not like they can have Toga executed 100 times.
I don’t think we can solely speak of fairness. It’s part of whatever this HeroAca theme is, but not the whole thing. HeroAca is about saving people and giving them second chances, about making a better world and brighter future, about acceptance and bonds, rejecting nihilism and ostracism. It’s about avoiding fatalism and falling into the trap of believing there’s no hope/future/help for someone, so why bother trying?
You can think Toga is beyond saving and that she deserves to die, but I think you should consider why you think this death sentence as punishment for Toga Himiko - an admittedly dangerous 17-year-old girl that society failed and now lashing out, but likely can be defeated non-fatally, then helped and healed into a better person - is a righteous thing, and if that’s the solution this HeroAca world needs and will pave way for a more just world.
Anders and ‘‘Murder’’ in Dragon Age
Ok so I’ve seen this a few times recently and want to break down my thoughts on it.
Anders is a murderer - this is true.*
(*Though there are some really great meta posts proving how by Dragon Age Canon he killed less than 100 people in the Chantry boom. I’m on mobile but if anyone wants to add that please do.)
Hawke is a murderer. Varric is a murderer. Isabela is a murderer. Fenris is a murderer. Aveline is a murderer. Merrill is a murderer. Sebastian is a murderer.
Guys you, you have a kill count. Hawke and their whole gang are a group of dangerous vigilantes who kill people according to their own personal moral judgements.
The difference between Anders’ Chantry Boom and the Kirkwall Crew’s merry decade of mass murder is that a) the Chantry Boom was the beginning of a Civil War b) That Civil War started, in part, to prevent a genocide
(Canonically, Meredith had called for the Rite of Annulment with no good reason. Canonically, she is going to enact it knowing the Circle mages are innocent. Canonically, the Gallows had over 800 innocent people inside including children and the elderly. Not to be utilitarian, but yes, I would kill 100 political and religious leaders in a corrupt, dictatorial, violent theocracy in order to save nearly a thousand innocent people.)
The third difference between Anders and Hawke and the gang’s multiple-hundreds head count is that you, the player, don’t do it. So you don’t excuse him the way you excuse yourself - despite the fact that Anders’ last ditch effort to save over 800 people after ten years of peaceful protest is infinitely more justifiable than Hawke’s slaughter of hundreds of refugees and gangs in a city that is canonically riddled with poverty, prejudice, unemployment and homelessness.
When I say Anders Was Right, I don’t mean, “he’s my favourite character so I’m turning a blind eye to his actions”. I mean, seriously, I think that what he did was the morally correct choice and a necessary one.
I don’t mean that Anders isn’t an asshole. He’s a huge asshole!!! He shouldn’t have lied to Hawke. He shouldn’t have manipulated them. He’s selfish, and ignorant, and often blind to the way his words and actions hurt other people. He can become self absorbed and arrogant. He demands disclosure of trauma, he’s short tempered, he leaps to conclusions, he hurts people’s feelings, he IS blinded to the causes and needs of other communities because of his single minded focus on mages and his own suffering. And a lot of his dialogue towards Fenris and Merrill (however cartoonishly exaggerated, but more on that anon) is unforgivably rude AT BEST.
I think Anders actions at the Chantry were correct and morally justifiable. Does that mean I think he’s perfect? Of course not! His flaws are what make him interesting!!!!
But even if all of this weren’t true - EVEN IF the rest of the gang didn’t canonically have a kill count as high as, or higher than, Anders’ first action in a civil war to prevent a genocide - EVEN in that case.
I also cannot condone Bioware’s conscious, deliberate, centrist, toxic, ableist caricature of a mentally ill, queer character and his fight for civil rights. I…don’t actually think we need a story right now that explains to us how, fundamentally, queer bipolar men are ‘unhinged’, violent and evil, simply for the fact of their resistance against state and religious abuse. Even when they’ve been tortured. Even when children are going to die.
We have this appalling, condescending, imperialistic idea that people - in reality and in fiction, are only allowed to violently resist violent oppression by the state and church if we find them palatable. If they step a toe outside of our personal comfort zones, (themselves constructed by the same imperialistic propaganda we’ve consumed since childhood) we immediately rescind that right - damning an individual for resisting, even if their life is on the line. Even if it concerns the death of children. This is not a moral choice. It’s a social bias.
As for Fenris and Merrill - I struggle to believe that a man who spent ten years providing free medical treatment to refugees, criminals and the homeless never met an elf or learned anything about discrimination against elves. I also struggle to understand how - despite the fact that the Circles are the only place in southern Thedas where elves are not segregated from humans, and where they can reach an equivalent position of authority to humans, somehow Circle mages are most often the mouthpieces for anti elven discrimination.
And by this of course I mean I don’t struggle at all. It’s very helpful for bombastic, oppressive governments like the USA, and all who support them, to set up a false dichotomy between marginalised communities. To peddle the lie that marginalised communities’ biggest threats are one another and not, say, the church or state actively enforcing violence against them. (The Chantry teaches that mages corrupted heaven. It also teaches that elves are inherently more sinful than humans because they are ‘born further from the Maker’s light’).
Once again, apart from the catastrophic failure in internal logic that results in these forced, cartoonish caricatures of Anders as a character - I also disagree with this because I fundamentally do not believe that we need a story about queer people and mentally ill people fighting people of colour but never daring to raise a finger to the people lobotomising them, r*ping them, killing them and driving them to s*icide. I don’t like that story because I don’t think it’s a good one - I don’t think it’s narratively interesting. I do think it’s morally corrupt. I think it’s toxic propaganda. I think it drives us apart.
There’s this incredibly condescending attitude among DA fans towards people who like Anders. The patronising, lazy assumption is that we saw a pretty blonde white man and didn’t engage with the narrative at all. This is rarely the case. We are also adults. We also played the game. We just came to a different conclusion.
flashfam and birdflash because im WEAKKK
so barry and iris take wally in because rudy is a FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT
lets imagine this happens early teens or so
wally never even comes out to his dad because he just. Knows exactly what his parents would think
he kind of. subtly tried to bring it up with his mom but she made her opinion Pretty Damn Clear so wally is like great this is awesome
as a result of both the superspeed + switching cities + adhd wally has practically 0 friends growing up which really concerns barry and iris
so barry is like, babe, i have a fantastic idea, im going to set up a playdate with batmans kid
and iris is like I GUESS
(also the way wally behaves in a relationship is 100% modeled after barry and iris because they literally have the perfect relationship. see exhibit a) babe as a pet name)
((this is also probably why hes a little upset when he finds out about barry and hal because its like. you think you understand your parents and then they hit you with this massive bombshell that kind of forces you to change your whole perception of them? and even though nobodys done anything wrong its still really upsetting? and maybe if wally had known earlier that barry was bi wally wouldnt have been so fucking stressed out about coming out?))
anyways. robin and kid flash playdate. a meeting for the ages.
wally gets a crush like. right away but doesnt realize so he oscillates WILDLY between being REALLY nice to robin and also being kind of fucking mean lol wally was very much pulling robins pigtails
like one day wally shares half his ants on a log that iris made him with robin and then the next he puts gum in robins hair and robin cries while alfred cuts it out
robin is like UGH kid flash is SO MEAN and bruce is like you dont have to hang out with him and robin is like NO IM GONNA
wally gets out of the mean phase quickly though lol
barry and iris realize right away its a crush and are like aw cute but then it... doesnt go away... ever...
so then they go REALLY hard on the PFLAG thing and keep like brochures and pride flags EVERYWHERE which actually does make wally a lot more comfortable
when wally comes out they all cry lol
wally calls barry and iris uncle and aunt but when hes much older he switches between aunt/uncle and mom and dad
anyways when dick leaves bruce/is fired/complicated feeling stuff dick spends most of his time at titans tower BUT also spends a significant amount of time at barry and iris' place
because the westallen household is adhd central, dick actually learns a lot of tips for dealing with his own adhd from them
dick is trying to Figure out his place in the world so he actually gets really into the journalism scene for a while because of both iris and clark
iris: hi this is my nephew, dick, hes my intern :)
clark: no, this is MY nephew, hes MY intern :)
lois bugs bunny meme: OUR nephew-intern
wally Does Not get it at all bcus he is 100% a STEM kid but hes still like i support you babe :^)
barry and iris LOVE dick. dick doesnt really open up about his situation but they kind of get the gist so barry is like. really annoyed with batman whenever they have to work together
iris writes a very scathing series of articles about the batman of gotham and dick is very vindictively pleased
dick actually finds out about hal and barry first bcus he comes downstairs and theyre making out on the couch and and dick is like UHHHH and halbarry are like UHHHHHHHH and dick is like I AM CALLING IRIS RIGHT FUCKING NOW and halbarry are like NO ITS COOL
iris is like. Mom supreme. dick for the past decade has had like no mother figures (selina doesnt really count because her and bruce are messyyyyy) so he both really wants iris's affection and also gets really overwhelmed by it
also barry. like, isnt emotionally constipated? wally tells dick that the west allens have weekly dinners where they talk about whats up with them and their feelings and dick is like aw thats cute and then wally is like dick u should join us and dick is like WAIT NO THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT
so dick is now required to be at family dinners once a month and talk about his feelings which is both exhausting and liberating
barry cries at the wedding and iris is like I Am Not Crying How Dare You Imply That I Am.
bruce and iris. the most begrudging in-laws. everytime bruce sees iris hes immediately reminded of the phrase "The Batman is a violent, depressed loner who gets his thrills by beating up homeless people and drug addicts." and its like jesus fucking christ iris way to gut the man
iris 100% uses the fact that shes dick graysons mother-in-law aunt-in-law to get sources. its a dog-eat-dog world out there, kid.
dick adores the twins bcus he loves babies
wally gets SO annoyed by bart its very funny to dick. wally and dick both grew up as only children but dick has had more time to adjust to having siblings so hes much more fond of bart than wally initially is
