#i dunno. i just want the beacon lore
Text
There's certainly something about how the Tree of Names revealed such wonders and pieces of history to Patia, overwhelmed her with that sheer amount of information from something older and more profound than time itself, and about how the beacon let Caleb see "a nexus of possibility, infinite and endless starscapes -- stars. Are they people? Are they points in time, historical moments, future moments to happen? It is so much information at once, and you feel a part of yourself pulled in, and a part of it comes into you." (c2e99)
About how the tree, in its dying breaths, gave its magic to Patia in the form of a wish spell, a piece of arcana that reshapes the very essence of reality, and about how the beacon gives those who attune to it a mote of possibility with which to reshape their own destiny.
About how Zerxus drew his power from something older than time, something beyond the stars, something that he and Evandrin both strove for, something that Evandrin's situation allowed Zerxus to tether himself to. About Zerxus saying that his power came from a divinity far older and more profound than anything the gods could ever hope to offer, a divinity that called those gods to a world it had already created, and about the Luxon being a creature older than the world that shattered itself to give life to Exandria before the gods ever came.
All these threads are tangentially connected and there's something here, I just can't see what.

The similarities in the lore of the Monsterverse and Frozen 2
So in 2019 we saw the release of the third installment of the Monsterverse, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the sequel to Frozen titled...Frozen 2. As a huge fan of Godzilla and someone’s who has been brought into the Frozen fandom through online friends, the more I watched these two movies the more I realized how similar their lore, concepts and themes are. Granted, these themes and concepts aren’t innovative or new (arguably ATLA and LOK handled these themes much better than these two works) but I couldn’t help but see the similarities in the lore presented in these films. This is mainly an analysis pointing out these resemblances.
Before we get started I must say that I am not implying that the Frozen franchise takes place in the Monsterverse. I swear if Disney ever gets near Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, etc. Toho would wage all out war. Disney and Toho are both very protective of their properties.
Also I must address the problems that come with comparing the lore and worlds of these two works in a crossover situation.
1) Elsa having powers: Nothing in the Monsterverse as of yet suggests the possiblity of humans having powers. There is a scene in KOTM that suggets a possible psychic connection between Mothra and Dr. Chen. Even in the novelization it hinted that Madison Russell has this connection with Mothra but both of these seem to be just homages to Mothra’s fairy twins, the Shobijin, who had the same psychic connection with Mothra in her previous iterations. So, with the lore of the Monsterverse there’s no way to explain Elsa having powers cause they are strictly magical which leads to...
2) Science Fiction versus Mystical Fantasy: Of course Elsa’s powers and the way the Ahtohallen works is more magical while the Monsterverse takes a more scientic approach. Actually one of the things I think KOTM did well was make the Kaiju cast feel like actual Gods with persoanlities while also making them feel like actual animals. Frozen 2 explores the magic of the world further with a strange voice calling to Elsa and full on memories replicated via ice and snow.
So bottom line is, the Frozen franchise is of course more magical with their lore while the Monsterverse is more science fiction.
Now we can get into the similarities.
The Theme of Change
Frozen 2 has a running theme of change throughout its runtime. I’d say thematically the conflict of the movie is that Anna and Olaf are afraid of change and try desperately to keep the status quo while Elsa habhazardly leaps into change. All the while you can say Kristoff is overthinking his change, letting his doubts and anxieties keep him from the change he desperately wants to make (I dunno anything to add some weight to Kristoff’s plot in the movie).
Tumblr media
Though KOTM isn’t actively about change the character of Mothra has always represented change. More specifically change for the better. It’s no wonder why Mothra comes to Mark Russell, whose conflict is about changing his view on Godzilla. Mothra, being a symbol of change comes to Mark as a shining beacon of enlightenment which then goes on to lead him to his journey of forgiveness.
Tumblr media
This theme of change for the better is very present in Frozen 2 as Anna and Elsa work to change the damage their grandfather had done to the forest and to the Northdulran tribe.
This then leads to another theme that is present in both movies. Sacrifice. Both Dr. Serizawa and Mothra sacrificed themselves to bring about change. To restore balance. Elsa sacrifices herself to restore balance to the forest and to undo the damage done by her grandfather. Anna nearly dies trying to accomplish this very task.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of this leans into the one of the biggest themes these two share...
Facing the Past
Mark Russell’s conflict in KOTM is that he can’t forgive Godzilla for indirectly killing his son in Godzilla’s fight with the MUTOs in 2014. In the very beginning of the film he believes that Godzilla should be terminated. I believe his change is marked by the stares he gives the King of the Monsters in the movie. At the Castle Bravo outpost he looks at Godzilla with contempt. Looking directly into the eyes of the beast that took his son away from him. Later in the movie when the crew is going to power Godzilla up as he reels from the affects of the oxygen destroyer, Dr. Ishiro Serizawa delivers the best line in the movie. “Sometimes...the ony way to heal our wounds is to make peace with the demons who created them.” he tells Mark. Following Serizawa’s sacrifice Mark looks at Godzilla differently. He gazes up at Godzilla with a look of awe and forgiveness. Mark had to come to terms with the scars of the past to bring about peace in the present.
Tumblr media
We even see this theme in GVK as in the end Godzilla and Kong make peace. Kong letting go of his anger towards Godzilla for attacking him and Godzilla letting go of his grudge for the Kong species for enslaving the titans.
Tumblr media
In Frozen 2 we see Elsa and Anna face the dark past of their beloved kingdom. Having to dismantle the dam which their grandfather built to weaken Northdulran lands in order to restore balance to the forest and to heal the scars Runeard gave to the Northdulran tribe. The Northdulra can finally heal their scars by making peace with the demons who created them. The kingdom of Arendelle.
Tumblr media
Nature Punshing Mankind
Because of the battle between Arendelle and Northdulra the enchanted forest in Frozen 2 punishes those involved by entrapping them behind a magical fog. Because of humanity’s violence and hatred towards one another the forest is thrown off balance and the once benevolent spirits have turned hostile against all those who were unfortunate enough to be trapped in confines of the forest.
Tumblr media
This theme of nature punishing mankind is what the Godzilla franchise is built on. With Godzilla serving as a force that embarasses arrogant power hungry humans like Runeard and puts them in their place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though Godzilla in the Monsterverse is portrayed more as an anti-hero than a destructive force of nature who punishes all of mankind like his previous incarnations, we see in GVK he isn’t above smiting humans if they threaten the balance of nature.
Tumblr media
The forest in Frozen 2 and Godzilla in the Monsterverse seem to have a similar set of rules. If you threaten the balance, you will be punished. It’s doesn’t matter who your allegiances are.
Hell, it’s even because of mankind building something they shouldn’t have is why everything is thrown off balance. Runeard’s dam and Apex’s MechaGodzilla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skull Island and the Enchanted Forest
In Frozen 2 we are introduced to the Enchanted Forest. A magical, wonderful, beautiful place that is full of dangers that threatens our main cast. It’s home to the Northdulra tribe who had a beneficiary relationship with the elemental spirits of the forest, strange beasts who call the forest home and turn on the Northdulra tribe when mankind had built a dam that thrown everything off balance.
Tumblr media
In Kong: Skull Island we are introduced to Skull Island. A dangerous, hellish place that threatens our main cast. The strange beasts there can kill you in millions of brutal and horrifying ways. Yet beneath all the horror there is a beauty and wonder to the place. The island is not only home to the Iwi tribe but to their god, Kong, who protects them from the devilish Skull Crawlers. When a research team from Monarch fires charges on the island’s surface, Kong becomes hostile towards them for waking the Skull Crawlers and throwing everything off balance.
Tumblr media
The enchanted forest and Skull Island are similar in that they are strange lands with beasts that interact with humans. Granted the Iwi tribe got the short end of the stick as everything on Skull Island wants to murder you while the Northdulra tribe were vibing with the spirits before Runeard’s attack.
In GVK Nathan Lind calls Skull Island bits of the Hollow Earth that exist on the surface. I think the same can apply to the forest. The Hollow Earth in GVK has a magical quality to it with its weird gravity and structure. Who’s to say that maybe the enchanted forest is a bit of the Hollow Earth on the surface with Ahtohallen acting as an entrance point to the Hollow Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Spirits and Titans
Through Jia and Kong’s relationship we can see that Titans and humans have the ability to not only communicate but create beneficiary bonds with each other. We see the Northdulra tribe get along well with the spirits and we even see Iduna and Gale play together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knowing what we know about how Titans behave in the Monsterverse, how they can be destructive, how they can form bonds with humans and how they are angered when the balance is threatened I think it’s safe to say that the titans and the spirits act very similarly. Not to mention all the other spirits get along with Elsa (though the Nokk took some convincing), as if she was a pack leader. When Ghidorah took control of the titans they were described as moving as a pack by Mark, with Ghidorah as their pack leader. Even when Godzilla took back control, the titans bowed to him and treat him as the alpha of their pack. That kind of relationship reminds me of Elsa and the spirits.
Both Elsa and Godzilla even had to wrangle with fellow spirits and titans to get them back in line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, I like to think of Bruni being in the same family as Titanus Doug and Godzilla. It just feels right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tribes of Humans Worshipping Strange Creatures
Now this is the resemblance that sparked this whole thing. Both of these movies has established the idea of tribes of humans worshipping and co-existing with strange creatures of nature.
As established the Northuldra co-existed with the elemental spirits of the forest.
Tumblr media
In the Monsterverse, there were whole factions dedicated to the titans in ancient times.
The Iwi tribe had allied themselves with the Kong species and went with them when Godzilla had kicked the species out to the surface for when they were enslaving other titans.
Tumblr media
Mothra has a whole temple built and dedicated to her. Rodan even has cave paintings of his own.
Godzilla not only had a temple in his honor but a whole human city built dedicated towards him. We see paintings of Godzilla being worshipped with statues of him. This whole shrine was his lair in KOTM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this leads to a fun idea...
If there were to be a crossover, who would the Northdulra had worship if they were descendants of one of these ancient?
I personally like the idea of them being the Anguirus faction and that Anguirus was the fifth spirit before Elsa was. Ahtohallen used to be his home and he left it to go help Godzilla fight Ghidorah but was killed in battle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly I believe the Monsterverse has barely covered this idea of humanity once co-existing with the titans only to have their connection be severed and humanity forgetting the existance of titans as the years went on.
Sorry if this was more of a ramble than an analysis I just wanted to point out some similarities between these two works and give some ideas to chew on.

Verses to be written up properly when I’m feeling less lazy:
SKY HIGH VERSE: Will be tagged with main verse. Is generally set post the movie. Follows the canon established for FG. See here for the lore.
SKY U VERSE: New main verse. Will be used more often. Will be tagged with ‘second main verse’. Khione has graduated Sky High and is now attending Sky U. See above for lore.
DESCENDANTS: Idk if she’s an Isle Born or an Auradonian but Kiki is related to Periwinkle and has Ice Powers TM.
TEEN WOLF: Ice elemental from a whole family of ice elementals, is the third-gen of the ice elemental family to live in Beacon Hills. Probably helps out the McCall pack. Maybe the Hale pack. I dunno. Kiki is there for most of it, if not all of it. Someone should give her a hug. She needs it.
TVD: Ice elemental posing as an ice witch. Would help Bonnie, Caroline and Elena and co. Is around Jeremy’s age.
TO: Kiki’s family packed it up and moved to New Orleans. Why? She’s got no clue. Something business related, surely. But she might as well try the beignets while she’s here. That is, if she’s not too busy accidentally wandering into the whole vampire / witch / werewolf war thing.
LEGACIES: Third gen ice elemental. Goes to Salvatore. Does ice sculpting. Likes snow and ice puns. Super Squad adjacent (though would love to join). Thinks Malivore is the dumbest name ever. Lonely. Touch starved. Can be found in the library. Has a healthy amount of respect for Caroline. Disdains Alaric. Is not faster than a werewolf, vampire of tribrid but is still pretty damn fast on her ice slides. Faster than the average human and supernatural creature that doesn’t have super speed.
MARVEL / DC / THE BOYS / TUA: ice hero (in training). Other ice heroes and villains are her favorites. Undisputed favorites.
COBRA KAI: Her parents want her to join Miyagi-Do because of Daniel LaRusso. Khione just wants to stay out of it.
SCREAM MOVIES AND TV SHOW: Not a final girl. Probably dies protecting Zach.
GOSSIP GIRL 2021: Her parents are lawyers. She goes to Constance. Probably gets put on blast by GG for her crush on Warren and the fact that Zach is her half brother.

Love how Ranboo's just been like "oh fun stream scheduled today guys :)" like five times in a row and every time chat freaks the heck out and every time there's just nothing except confusion and small lore foreshadowing hhhhhhhh anyway what's your theory on why he's so excited about coal all of a sudden? He goes 'yay coal!' and then he goes 'wait why do I need this much coal' and yet he continues to mine coal I'm STRESSED sorry i cannot theorise at any of my friends about this
AHHH DONT EVEN REMIND ME I WAS LIKE RLY I WAS UP TILL 2 AM, ALMOST 3 cause he said he has something planned and the stream ended with NO lore I was literally 😶 sir
ANYWAY, my theory about coal? I literally have n o clue. I’m not good with theories lol!!! I’m actually super bad with them, so coal is a giant mystery to me but I’m very very stressed. I dunno - maybe to build something with it actually?? Or to smelt some blocks to build something 👁👄👁 what if it’s glass? Maybe it’s glass? Maybe his half that shows us stuff says "I really want to build the underwater city” but the other half is already doing it? But that wouldn’t explain where did the beacon go, and all them blocks and shit.
There is this theory that his picks were so wasted because he was trying to mine his way to Dream, or get him out. I have literally no idea, my mind goes ⤴️↖️↕️⤵️⬆️⬇️↔️↕️⤵️⤵️🔀🔀🔁↪️↘️↕️🔀 when I try to think of theories because there are so many directions to turn to!!

Lindsay mentioned that Ruby's arc in V8 was: everything hurts and "What?" I have three theories on the "What?" is pertaining to: 1. Ruby's reaction to Yang revealing to have lied about the Spring Maiden. 2. Lore about Summer's death (maybe she's alive?) 3. The plan to evacuate Mantle to the crater goes sideways and people die, and Ruby devolves into a Heroic BSOD. What do you think?
Hello again Miki-chan o/
Hmmm. To be honest, I’m not sure about the third theory. I mean I like it since I can see it as something that could potentially be used to shock not just our heroes but also Ironwood out of his current Baobab-infected state. Imagine if…our heroes do manage to successfully evacuate the last of Mantle to the crater and it’s a case where things seem to be looking up until, let’s say our hero team decide to leave the refugees to go on a personal mission up to Atlas---maybe it’s the mission to finally rescue Qrow and Robyn.
So as our heroes head up to Atlas to confront the General for their allies, the refugees are left in the care of the Happy Huntresses or at least a few of em. Let’s say…for whatever reason, there are more members of the Huntresses besides the main ones we met last season: Robyn Hill, May Marigold, Joanna Greenleaf and Fiona Thyme.
So as May, Joanna and Fiona accompany our hero team up to Atlas to rescue their leader, they leave a couple of their fellow unnamed members in charge of the refugees of Mantle. Unbeknownst to our team, that’s when Salem decides to make one of her biggest moves. Let’s say, while our heroes were busy challenging Ironwood and his forces up in Atlas---fighting amongst themselves, this left an opening for Salem to make an attack on the unsuspecting Mantlese Refugees.
Imagine a scene where…Ironwood is fighting a duel with one of our heroes---perhaps it could be against Ruby or Oscar or even the two of them. And in the midst of their battle, an incoming call comes to Ironwood and when the General answers, it’s Salem who basically broadcasts her forces slaughtering the refugees of Mantle right before our so-called heroes’ eyes? Because while they were busy fighting with each other, they left the very people they swore to protect susceptible to the very threat they were trying to save them from.
So it’s a case where our heroes’ feud brought forth the damnation they were working against each other to avoid. And let’s say…it’s in a moment like this when all our of hero factions---JNR_QROWMBY, the Happy Huntresses and the Atlesian Military---decide they should work together to protect what’s left of Atlas and Mantle? What do you think of that?
While I’m not sure about the deaths of the Mantlese refugees being what Ruby responds to, I think you had it correct when the “What?” may be in response to Ruby either a) learning that Raven is the Spring Maiden after Yang drops the bomb leading to a potential fight between the sisters or b) learning more truth regarding her mother’s death from the worst source possible---Salem.
Imagine if…Ruby ends up pursuing Salem at some point in V8? OHHHH! Y’know what I just thought---What if… we got another call-back to the earlier seasons of RWBY?  Remember how back during the Beacon Trilogy, Yang’s story was that she was trying to find her mother Raven so that she could’ve learnt the full truth behind why she left and during the “Burning the Candle” episode in V2, Yang told Blake about a time in her youth when she became so obsessed in her pursuit of her mother that she nearly got herself and toddler Ruby killed, leading to them being rescued by Qrow.
Call me crazy but…imagine if…Ruby basically becomes like how Yang was.  And it’s a case where Yang begins to notice the clear warning signs of what Ruby making the same mistake she once did. Blake takes notice of it too since she also sees a bit of herself in Ruby---the way she drove herself ragged obsessing over trying to stop Torchwick until Yang had to pull her up and set her straight. Imagine if…Oscar notices Ruby’s strange behavior as well; becoming worried for her and getting a shared uneasy feeling in his gut from Ozpin who also becomes concerned for his former student.
Perhaps …this could be how Yang and Ruby end up fighting and the truth about Raven is dropped. Imagine if…Ruby and Yang fight over Yang realizing that Ruby’s true intentions was to confront Salem on her own; driven by both her desire to learn about what happened to her mother and something else that makes the people who were once close to Summer Rose (such as Qrow and Ozpin) recognize that Ruby was now mirroring her mother’s behaviour before her disappearance and death (I actually don’t think Summer Rose is alive).
And in Yang’s attempt to convince her sister not to run off to her own death, that’s when Yang is forced to reveal the truth about Raven when an exasperated and mentally drained Ruby Rose drills Yang to give her a reason why she shouldn’t go after Salem. And that’s when Yang tells Ruby that her behavior reminds her of how she wanted to learn the truth about Raven which in turn lead to Yang finally talking about her confrontation with Raven down in the Vault of the Spring Maiden, leading to her to finally confess the “truth” she learned about her mother and how that made her feel and all that jazz?
How about that?
OR….
Since Salem appears to be the one person who knows the truth about Summer Rose and what happened to her, imagine if…in her current frustrated state, Ruby gets the bright idea to go after Salem herself?
Like she becomes practically obsessed with wanting to know what happened to her mother (coupled together with exhaustion) and since Salem has the answers Ruby seeks, it makes the young silver eyed huntress actually consider going to Salem herself.
Even more precise, what if…there are several moments during V8 when Salem tempts Ruby into coming to her; like a venomous snake whispering cunningly into the rose’s ear to tempt her towards her death?
Since V7 revealed that Salem is able channel part of her essence into the Grimm she creates, imagine if…at some point…Salem corners Ruby while she’s far out of earshot of her comrades and speaks to her through the corpse of a Grimm Ruby slaughtered. Picture, Ruby exhaustedly cutting down a Grimm, thinking it had disappeared after it was been killed only for Ruby to suddenly hear Salem’s cryptically malicious voice. And as she slowly spun around to inspect the source of the voice, there it was---Salem speaking to Ruby through  the head of the very beast she spawned.
Imagine if…it’s a moment where Salem speaks to Ruby alone---tempting her with an offer the poor girl couldn’t refuse. Remember your ultimatum idea? Well…let’s say… Salem coaxes Ruby into surrendering herself to her in exchange for sparing the lives of the Atlesians in addition to promising to tell her all about what happened to her mother. Basically, it’s another case where Salem could sense Ruby’s vulnerability and desperation and uses that to her advantage to force her to come to her. What if…Ruby even tries to bargain with Salem---y’know like ‘deal with the devil’ type of scenario?
Imagine if…Salem even does something to Ruby to ensure that the girl doesn’t break their deal?
Are you familiar with a film called “All Dogs Go To Heaven”? If not, it’s an old animated film and in its sequel film---All Dogs Go to Heaven II--- Charlie, a dog up in heaven---ends up losing Gabriel’s Horn---a heavenly artifact with the power to open the gates of heaven. From what I remember from the plot, the horn ends up falling down to Earth leading to Charlie and one of her friends to go down to the surface world to retrieve the horn.
Long story short to get to my main idea, at some point later in the story, Charlie makes a deal with the Devil; despite the demonic creature warning the naïve dog that a deal with him was binding. But Charlie makes the deal anyways and as a symbol of their pact, Charlie is fitted with a dog collar that tightens painfully around his throat, choking him whenever he defies the Devil’s wishes.
So with that concept in mind, imagine if…Ruby makes a dangerous pact with Salem to surrender herself to her in exchange for Atlas’s protection. The pact is bounded by dark magic and let’s say, it’s represented by…I dunno---black veins resembling thorns (similar to the one on Salem’s skin) that wrap around Ruby’s wrist and dig painfully into her skin whenever the little red rose attempted to ‘defy’ the deal she made with Salem.
And let’s say…the thorns got longer, painful and more visible along Ruby’s hand the longer she avoided her inevitable deal with the Wicked Witch?
Imagine if…it’s a case like that? What do you think?

Hey remember when Soku said he was gonna stop talking about RWBY?
Guess who got caught lying?
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/184748210112/phazonfire-the-rwde-tag-is-so-fucking
I don’t know what tag you’re looking through about the homophobia thing considering the majority of the people seem to be gay and would probably call you out if they saw this.
I don’t remember you guys ever calling anyone out for calling Illa a ‘psycho lesbian’ because villain + gay = psycho lesbian apparently.
Oh wait, which tag is it that says that? hm...
Look people doing rewrites on the series is a non problem, and the dumbest gripe.
so is 99% of what you fuckers pull. Like bitching that a catgirl was put into a catsuit.
But rwby isn’t well written some is allowed to watch it to fix it to reconstruct or deconstruct it there is no harm to this and the series could benefit from a rewrite.
Too bad you assholes break the show EVEN FURTHER when you do rewrite shit *cough* RE:RWBY *cough*.
If you don’t like it don’t go through the constructive criticism tag just to cry cause someone doesn’t wanna kiss rwby’s butt like you do.
Last time constructive criticism existed in the RWDE tag: 900 BC.
Yeah sure.

https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/612590859661295616/your-idea-of-nit-picking-is-not-the-correct-use-of
I don't know how to tell some of ya'll that just because you constantly argue against criticism and the other person gets tried to talking to a brick wall doesn't mean you win.
This ain't your preschool, this requires critical thinking skills which some of ya'll clearly lack.
And just because you reject facts and demand that your delusions are true doesn’t make the other person a brick wall. You just don’t understand how to debate.
Your idea of nit picking is not the correct use of the term. Nor do whoever you are know what is and isn’t criticism on a subject.
Nit picking. Noun. “looking for small or unimportant errors or faults, especially in order to criticize unnecessarily.“
Literally all you do.
Also I’m only an asshole to people who are assholes back. So don’t pretend like you know me and mind your own? Deal? Deal.
Sorry Soku, that makes you a sexist, racist, transphobic Nazi. You know, since that’s MY Modius Operandi.
Also your blog is FILLED with bad political takes so you’re  the LAST person I wanna hear tall about “not picking”
“Can white people approiate basic human decency?”
Remember that take on your old blog?
Now what were you saying about politics...

https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611875463897497600/i-didnt-watch-vol-7-thank-god-but-a-friend-of
I didn’t watch vol 7 thank god,-
So you have no idea what you’re about to say? Got it.
but a friend of mine on my discord mentioned flynt and neon returning (with Ik finally) and boy they really gave the catgirl a hoodie with cat ears on it? And Blake has a catsuit? Miles, Kerry, Shane and Monty always talked about how “subtle” they are with things like scenes and designs and they put both the catgirls in outfits that are so on the nose it might as well be a part of your skin.
Where was that said again?
Also that;s not were the term catsuits come from.  It comes from cat burglars using them.
Isn’t that like going “Hey black guy put these big lips on over your other lips? Or the black guy having a fucking basketball printed on their jacket?” Good lord, in a world where people can be born with cat ears, and tails don’t you think it’s kinda freaking disgusting that these exist where humans can wear them?
And before you say that’s the point, in a world where none of the faunus get to say how they feel about these things and don’t have real life minority reactions to things like white dudes walking around with grills and fros and crap it kinda isn’t when the faunus girl wears a hoodie depicting one of the features of her own race that they were hunted down and slaughtered for.
Considering that it’d be no different than a white person getting cornrows-
Also it kind of is since black people walk around emphasizing their DARK SKIN, which is the basis of their discrimination.
You’re just race obsessed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611637391064694784/hmm-funny-that-the-rich-white-girl-who-was-racist
Hmm funny that the rich white girl who was racist gets an overpowered semblance that shares alot of feats like her team like being able to make runes that increase speed, Platforms, Remove gravity, shoot projectiles, Make people stick to them etc etc. Oh and she has the ability to summon monsters that show feats of strength that rivals one of her partners.
Meanwhile the minority character is shown to fuck up alot, gets treated like shit and never gets an apology from said racist, get nerfed constantly, have her weapon poorly sautared back together while the rest of her team gets upgrades and has the weakest semblance of the three.
Seems alittle off white writers.
And who has the better fight record than the other?
... The minority?
Hm, seems off black complainer.
Oh did that sound racist? Hm, dunno why it sound considering you said the SAME THING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/611636922643857408/so-let-me-get-this-straight-vol-7-has-ended-and
So Let me get this straight, vol 7 has ended and apparently they lost the one relic they had, still haven’t found the newer one or did but still have to deal with Ironwood and several others. Cinder is still alive, Neo is siding with her out of fear? When she wanted vengeance and could team up with rwby.
this is volume 7 of supposedly 10 so three more seasons and they still haven’t sat down and talked about what they’re supposed to to against the immortal grimm lady, they don’t know where the relic at beacon is and ozpin’s still ghosting them, and they’re foolishly gathering them all in one spot instead of taking the maiden and the relic and putting both of them on the farest corners of the planet? I thought they were going to atlas to meet with someone Weiss knew as the Anton Sokolov Play dishonored! of their world to build a rocket and send at least one rocket into a black hole and never have an issue with Salem again.
three more seasons and a plan hasn’t even been formed to deal with her or the relics, Emerald and Mercury are doing nothing, Cinder has no goal except to be the new adam and chase the heros and get her ass kicked, Hazel’s doing nothing, The comms are down and we haven’t heard a peep from whoever runs Vacuo, Blake and Ruby have still had barely any interaction, Weiss hasn’t apologized for her racism, We never addressed how and why did Raven appear in Yang’s dreams, Why did ren from shields over his hands and show off feats of strength that rival yangs or his weird ability to sense tyrian? Neo’s eyes changed color when she saw Raven and her teleport ability. Lore Like how semblance, Lien (the money that looks like credit cards but has zero numbers on it work) The examples of agriculture, Flora and Fauna, dust and so on.
A. Haven’t they said it’s more like twelve?
B. Nope, Ozpin’s back. But hey, who needs to actually KNOW what you’re talking about?
C. Can’t do that, don’t know where the Spring Maiden is. Would have known this if you watched Volume 6.
D. They never said that and expressly said they were meeting with Ironwood to get the relic somewhere secure. Gee, that’s the THIRD thing you’ve gotten wrong. Hm...
E.So Soku, how does Quirks affect agiculture? What were the original Quirks like? Who had the first Quirk? What was life like for people when Quirks were uncommon? Hm? Nothing is said?
MHA is shit, SOku said so.
But sure, three more seasons to cram that all in AND a plan and character interaction/Growth and so on, this is a lovely mess of a show.
And as you have shown, you paid attention to 0% of it so how would you know?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how’s that tar and feather treatment treating you Soku? Because I have so many more ways of humiliating you, happy showcase them as long as you open that bitchy little mouth of yours.
So go ahead and keep posting. It just lets me indulge my sadism without remorse.

Which route was the most fun to write?
Maggie Herskowitz (Writer): I had the honor of doing the first Z’Gord totem route in the OG game and that was a blaaaaast. I loved building up increasingly horrifying Lovecraftian nightmare consequences of the eldritch god’s actions whilst keeping Polly and Miranda ever more focused on how precious and adorable and cute their Li’l Buddy is! Good times. I ALSO *LOVED* writing Blobert’s route, which has since grown even dearer to my heart since he was then voiced by Jesse Cox, who has become a great supporter and inspiration to me (hi, Jesse!!!). Blobert is great because in all the cruelty and “be your worst self”-ness of most of the characters, there is a shining beacon of purity and adorableness who seems like he’s walked out of a different game into this one. I also got to sneak in some slayer lore of my own invention, which is fun because the madman behind it all, Julian Quijano, has created this BRILLIANTLY full world with very in-depth backstories for each character, so any time I get to help shape that world by adding new details/history for characters and he likes them and lets them stay, that’s always a very cool moment for me XD
Julián Quijano (Creative Director & Writer): First of all, thanks Maggie for the nice words above!
So… I write some of the routes myself. Normally I keep the ones that are heavier on lore or message. So, for instance, I did the first Valerie route, the Damien Hairdresser route, or the Zoe route about her identity, etc.
On the DLC I loved writing both Hope and Faith routes for very specific reasons. On Hope’s route I decided to break the internal rules and have a stupidly long outcome of around 50 lines that summed up the plot of 7 entire seasons of the Coven fictional TV show. It was INSANE. It took me many hours not only to write, but to come up with. I had my charts and wild ideas. I knew it would be a pain in the ass for most players (I made the narrator suggest to skip the whole scene, actually)… but the knowledge that at least some fans would enjoy such an obscene and unnecessary lore dump made it 100% worth. Dunno… it was super weird and wild.
On the other hand, I loved Faith’s route for a total different reason. Not only it contained lore and it served to make some self-critique on an unfortunate joke I wrote for the original made (the “Dark Polly” one), but it let me write one of my fav events to date. So I was exhausted of lots of lore heavy events and such… and then I decided out of the blue that the conflict of the first even should be basically “what do you know about cats?” just to make some smalltalk with Faith. It was both absurd and delightful to write a lore dump on the event’s introduction just to leave it by the end and make the actual conflict about something so mundane!
Finally, I need to mention briefly 2 routes. I did some heavy rewrites on the “Dragon Heat” (basically wrote the 1st and 3rd events myself) and I loved it. Weird as fuck, in the best way possible. I loved seeing fans who are avid fanfic readers/writers saying how “true” the route felt.
And the other one is obviously “The Caganer” route. I’m from South America, but I came to Barcelona many years ago. I love this city and the culture of the region (even if I don’t practice the customs myself). So I wanted to show my gratitude by sharing Catalonia’s culture with our huge lovely audience. Also, it was MonProm’s absurd tone at its best!

‘AFTER THE FALL’ - LIVEREAD III
The more I hear about the latter half of this book, the more depresso espresso I’m drinking. Let’s see how it goes, huh?
(Since there’s more chapters in the latter half than the first half, short chapters will probably get combined together for the sake of. I’m lazy.)
CHAPTERS EIGHT AND NINE
I love that Velvet’s the one who enlisted Weiss and Yang, expecting shit to go sideways. She saw these two gays on main and went ‘they look like they can party’. Was she wrong? No. Did she invite Cinder for the express purpose of drama? Yes. Can you make me stop shipping Sinnamon Bun? Also no.
Okay, this book has read my mine though!!! Ruby pitches a Beacon Battle Club where they play music as they fight, and no word of a fucking lie, that happens in Great Weiss Shark AU! I am not kidding! I had this whole story planned out! This is theft of the HIGHEST order.
“Doilies are absurd and elitist,” Yang said.
This is simultaneously the least Yang-like line and also the most Yang-like line I’ve ever heard. The duality of idiot, I suppose.
I like Fox! I really do, actually! He’s my son now. Although, the bad news is I dunno if I can replicate him in The Frapp Logs, so he’ll just have to keep dragging Coco to the ends of the earth. Same thing, right? R-right?
“Leaders can’t be the comic relief.” Fox raised his eyebrows. “Jaune.”
Is this the second time Jaune’s been dragged? I’m living for it. Also, sleepy Blake! And CFVY knowing she’s (they’re) a Faunus! And the second book behind a book! I love you, Blake.
Velvet correcting Yatsu’s ‘catnap’ joke! I wrote a ficlet about this exact thing once, so I TOLD you my Velvet’s NEARLY CANON. SHE JUST NEEDS TO EAT MORE PROTEIN IS ALL.
Onto chapter nine. God, these chapters get thinner by the second, huh?
BACK TO THE DESERT WE GO, and there’s... fog? Which is now gone! Wow! Is this a plot device? Foreshadowing? I sure hope so, because why on earth it would warrant a mention we’re just not too sure!
A sandstorm is incoming and hidden tracks are gonna get blasted away. I’m trying to figure out if this is all pathetic fallacy or if I’m reading too much into handy-dandy plot devices. Why not both?
Heart-to-heart with Coco and Yatsu... and we’re back to Yatsu giving Velvet all the hugs. Now that I’m sensing the Velv/Yats vibes, I’m extra suspicious. You stop that. Let Velvet have a fashionable GF at least if you won’t let her kiss Weiss!!!
‘[...] even the women were down to halter tops. Focus, Coco, she thought.’
Ah, lesbian as always. I’m soothed. Carmine enters the tent and Coco gets even gayer. I’m very soothed.
‘What was Jaune doing after losing a member of his team, a friend... someone he clearly cared about.’
I don’t care about what Jaune feels. Why the heck would Coco even care? There’s literally so many more people that impacts than just Jaune, lawd.
CHAPTER TEN AND ELEVEN
Back to Fox, who is honestly the shining star of this book by now. I love you, my blind and sassy son.
I love Ada and the battle mechanic she has! I’m really enjoying how Fox interacts with the world around him and using his Scroll and AI as an accessibility device. It’s neat! I didn’t expect them to go as ham on him as they did, but they did.
“Update,” Ada said. “Weapon has projectile capabilities.” “You mean it’s also a gun.”
Obligatory gun meme.
Combat stuff happens, Fox wins a fight against a confused Edward, and it turns out Gus is the one summoning Grimm and Fox just got jumped, so we slide into another flashback for chapter eleven. Lemme tell ya, this book ain’t afraid of moving fast.
“I guess you slightly oversold your ability to track the survivors,” Coco said.
Again, this is one of those lines that reads as very... callous? Kinda mean? I’ve always had Coco in my head as someone who very broadly puts her team (and their feelings) first, even if it’s rough, so lines like this make me go 🤔
Velvet falls, Yatsu panics, Coco gets up in everyone’s grill. There’s a lot to this dynamic I am not enjoying right now, and even then this seems inconsistent with the CFVY we’ve seen in the book itself. I know the author’s trying to communicate that Coco is tired and frustrated, that I get, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t how... it would really happen given her character? I dunno. ‘S weird.
Was that a fat joke I spotted there? From Coco? I need a nap. Also COCO LET VELVET DO THINGS JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK ME SIDEWAYS!!!!!!!!!!
Coco has claustrophobia! I wrote her as having agoraphobia, so this is a hilarious turn of events. Also Coco has two brothers, not one: Mate and Toma.
Coco is fighting Grimm in a cave with CFVY, but still finds time to criticise Velvet in combat. Hey, maybe if you let her do things, she’d prove you wrong, dingus. And then she does! See!
Aaaaaaaand the six survivors are all dead. This was a pretty traumatic event, all told, which makes it weird that they look... less affected in the show? Still, this chapter was VERY weird for the characterisations because Coco seems especially inconsistent, alas. Anyway, onto:
CHAPTERS TWELVE AND THIRTEEN
The sandstorm is approaching and catching the wagons, which I have just realised are actually vehicles that use fuel. Mostly because that’s the First I Heard Of It.
‘Velvet noticed a pistol tucked in the back before she closed the door.’
Hi, can Chekhov please pick up his gun from aisle twelve? Thanks.
GIANT SAND TURTLE. AVATAR AANG C’MERE Y’ALL GOTTA LEARN HOW TO DEFEAT THE FIRELORD.
“You said it’s big enough to ride on?” Velvet asked.
Maybe this is why Coco dismisses Velvet so often. She only pitches the craziest ideas, which is why I love her. That said, Coco finally lets Velvet do something! It’s a miracle of man! Climb that turtle, bihh!
Yatsu calls Velvet V. I’m so used to Velv that V sounds entirely too cool for this idiot.
Everyone’s pissed again, but-- IS THAT THE SAND WORM THING FROM ARRAKIS?! What A Tweest!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody coulda seen THAT coming!!!!!
So let’s go to chapter thirteen, where Fox has had the shit beaten out of him behind a Denny’s. Sound about right.
So what’s-his-name-- Bertilak, whomst from now on shall be called Bert because what sorta water tribe name even is that (wow the ATLA references are on fire today). Anyway, Bert is being paid by someone else to deliver people with Stronk Semblances like summoning Grimm! Gee I Wonder Who That Might Be (I don’t actually know but I’m honestly not going to be surprised either way).
“Yeah, [Bert]’s a real bastard.” “Even I can see that,” Fox sent.
I love it. Fox really has been the highlight of this book for me.
Fox is on the ground and the referee is counting him to ten, so it’s mid-chapter-flashback time! We learn how Fox’s parents died (sinkhole) and how that became his motivation for... going to Beacon? Okay, tenuous link at best, but I’m going with it.
Carmine is full of trouble and Fox is determined to take Bert with ‘em. Let him DIE.
I’m gonna keep going since we’re not four chapters from the end, so:
CHAPTERS FOURTEEN AND FIFTEEN
Flashback time! Again! Only it’s CFVY’s POV of their return to Beacon. I wouldn’t mind this if like. We hadn’t already seen this from RWBY’s perspective in the show? People know this from my tastes in fanfic, but I’m not a huge fan of retellings of canon events, it’s soooooo boooooring. So I’m just gonna grind through this asap.
(I do like that RWBY and CFVY have all these parallels being called to. As they should.)
Okay we’re past the recap and OH LAWD I HEARD OF THIS BIT. Goodwitch is here (I love u Glynda no matter what) but yeah, I’ve heard this part is Big Oof so uh, let’s see this happen go down. Velvet is being requested to see Ozpin so /buckles down.
Velvet’s being questioned alone for the Whole Thing, and team CFVY have burst into the office demanding to know why, and Velvet’s a crying wreck! I’m still very >:I for everyone being overprotective of Velvet, c’mon, but also: Oz, can you please have tact? Just once in your life? Tact? Do you has it?
Anyway, CFVY have reconciled and we turn to chapter fifteen, in which: Yatsu.
Carmine has Gus, everyone’s on the Turtmobile, and shit’s hitting the fan. Yatsu’s going after Gus and Carmine alone, and I’m still waiting on Chekov’s Gun to Chekov its way right into someone’s butt. Unless it’s Chekov’s Red Herring.
Here comes a fight scene! I never have much to say during fight scenes, so, uh, yeah. There’s some real last-minute exposition in places, though, where it really shouldn’t be.
Eey, Carmine is telekinetic! Very powerful and also OP, gotta nerf that shit right down, Edward.
Yatsu’s very nearly defeated, Bert is back, baby, and shit’s getting real. Time for chaaaaaaaaaper sixteeeeeeeeeen.
CHAPTERS SIXTEEN AND SEVENTEEN
Today’s livereading soundtrack is Simple Things by Zero 7. The whole album, I mean. This is a fun little fact to make sure you’re still awake and aware, ‘cause I sure ain’t!
Roy Stallion of BRNZ is presumed dead, along with the whole team, so big RIP to May, who was cute and deserved better. Swear to God if ABRN are dead too I will kill a man. Two men, to be specific.
Velvet admits she never wanted to come to Vacuo, Coco promises they’ll return to reclaim Beacon in future. This reads like a protagonist’s last speech on hope and strength in friendship... and it should, as Coco gets swallowed by a worm! Straight up just down the hatch! This should be a tragic beat, but this is honestly so funny. Coco, pick better ways to die.
Anyway, we’re onto chapter seventeen. I was very kindly given this message:
Tumblr media
And I-- OH HELL YES! HELL YES IT’S A SCHOOL DAY TIMETABLE!!!!!!!!!! THE LORE! THE CLASSES! THE NAMES! THE FACTS! THIS IS THE BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE BOOK SO FAR WHICH REALLY GOES TO SHOW I HAVE NO HOBBIES!
Is this a... flashback? Flash... forward? I’m not sure, actually. Either way, CFVY are in Beacon clearing the place of Grimm. Actually, this must be a flashback to before they went to Vacuo, I suppose, which would make sense to follow Velvet’s little admittance last chapter before Coco got swallowed like a paracetamol tablet.
Velvet waited for someone to ask her what she thought, what she wanted, by no one did.
Now I’m SAD why won’t people be NICE to VELVET just ONCE!!! God, this book really just gives her the short end of the stick every time.
Off go CFVY to Vacuo. Bye.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN AND EPILOGUE
Heremst we go.
Coco’s alive! I mean, no surprise. And full of the Joques as ever:
Coco figured sacrificing your life for a teammate was one way to be remembered as a good leader, but maybe that was just cheating.
RIP Coco and her claustrophobia! Hey, now that was good foreshadowing! That gets a whole Murphy Cookie of Approval. 🍪
Coco loses her Scroll and her hat, but Velvet swoops in to save the day! Meanwhile, Bert has been convinced that Carmine double-crossed him, so they’re battling it out! Basically, Gus cast frenzy. Finally, it works in everyone’s favour.
“I can’t believe I thought you were cute,” Coco spat.
Some lines in this book haven’t been very good. This one, on the other hand, very much is.
So Carmine goes underground and starts creating sinkholes everywhere like a weird desert gremlin, and Edward manages to block her Semblance and like. Carmine flat-out nearly suffocates herself to death. Another death I would have found both gruesome and hilarious for its irony. But Velvet uses Flynt’s trumpet to quite literally doot the sand away, and-- I’m so sorry, this line has me literally laughing to myself. She fuckin’-- doots the sand. Oh my god.
Anyway they win, catch up with Slate and the Nomad Fam, and meet team SSSN! The boys are back in town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Things are looking good.
Epilogue time. I’m still laughing about the sand-dooting.
So, we don’t know who paid Bert and Carmine, I guess? I do believe there’s maybe a sequel or something in the works, apparently, so maybe this is part of an overarching plot type thingie. Still.
Ah, yep, Coco confirms that they’re not through with this line of investigation yet, But, Velvet wraps it up with a heart-felt, if not a little bit cheesy, segment about home being wherever CFVY is, and so the book comes to a close.
WRAP-UP
So, I’m definitely gonna have a second read-through of this without having to constantly stop and do a liveblog, but the book was... okay, I guess? I feel like this plotline wasn’t the greatest one for CFVY, and that the author doesn’t have a crazy good handle on the characters -- he’s likely more suited to original content, which is valid. It’s a good romp and we do get new lore, but as expected, I feel like CFVY would be best used in the show that conceived them in the first place. A book is nice, but I’d love to see their return in RWBY itself, especially since this book wasn’t really... long enough, I don’t think? Seriously, y’all’ve met me. I do write hundreds of thousands of words in this world and I still haven’t written everything I wanna yet! I’d also like to see more Velvet as seen in RWBY Chibi, in which was she Cool and Good, and maybe less Yatsu alongside her directly. But! It’s a book! It’s decent! It’s CFVY! For most people, it’s Good Enough. And they’re valid too.

up to e10, the beacon
entrapta’s voice reminds me so much of hiccup from HTTYD
bow’s kitchen knights! pantry patrol! i forgot the other one!
the vacation attempt was stressful to watch! adora being unintentionally gaslit by her friends :(
on the plus side, glimmer’s aunt immediately going “i’m going to knit you a sweater” was hilarious to me, as an honorary daughter to a few friends’ mothers myself
oh no back on the minus side, glimmer’s aunt treating her as less good than her friends
back on the plus side again, bow exclaiming that he was wearing his socks and we never get to see it xD
i’m glad glimmer did eventually apologize for being mad at bow about princess prom. it’s a sucky feeling for sure but you can’t take it out on other people
oh no glimmer what’s wrong with your magic?! i’m simultaneously upset and excited about this -- excited because more story for glimmer/more lore about magic and how it works?
i’m having trouble with entrapta feeling abandoned bc it doesn’t make that much sense to me
glimmer constantly going “no, i’m fine, it’s not that bad” despite clearly being in intense pain is a Big Mood for me with my chronic pain. oh glob, and then when bow hugged her and she glitched and he felt it and he was like “this hurts so much,” that was incredibly validating
“am i the only one who cares about sword safety???” bow, i feel you
“glimmer, why won’t you tell me what’s wrong?” gee, i dunno, angella, it’s not like you spent most of your daughter’s life essentially punishing her for making mistakes or speaking up. i mean... i like angella as a character, but i don’t think she’s been a good parent to glimmer. it seems like they’re going in a reconciliation direction, so i just hope they do it well
scorpia is... i don’t know how to put it into words. she’s so pure and delightful and it’s kind of absurd to think of her seriously working to further the horde’s aims when she’s attempting to hug catra or fix that wall, but i want to see more of her

Our Meetings
Alright, so this is the revised version of “Our Meetings”. Any short stories regarding this two will be put here. Take it as an Insight on the actions that led to Format. If you haven't read that before, please be sure to do and give me your opinion!
Read my other fic Format / AO3
Read it on AO3
“I didn’t think anyone would actually come here. Let alone you from all people.” She said. Sombra didn’t even had to turn around. She had heard those engines hundreds of times. It was a comforting sound on the battlefield. The next sound would become familiar one, as the pilot left the cockpit and stood aside her mech.
“Well… I’m always up for a good easter egg hunt.” She answers.
“Huh.” She paused. “Don’t you think you are taking the bunny thing way too far? Should I call you the Easter Bunny then?”
“Hey! Bunnies are great! And I don’t know what you are talking about!” She answered jokingly. This felt nice. The teasing, the back and forth around nonsense. The heated answers and the cool, calculated questions. This was their own special game. But even from time to time one needs a break from playing. From taking the hero’s sword or the villain’s crown. They played their own little games, and they were the best. But that didn’t mean they always liked it.
Sombra’s gaze never left the horizon as the Korean took a seat beside her. Dorado’s rooftops were plenty and desolated. The perfect place for someone who wanted both privacy and peace. Or to park an obnoxiously bright pink mech while attracting the least amount of armed forces possible. It was peculiar sight. The two enemies. Friends. Something in between or something else entirely. The two of them were not subtle, in or outside of the battlefield. One sneaked her way through, only to make herself know in the flashiest way possible, scrapping you of everything. While the other paraded without fear or shame. Destroying anything in her path, both sword and shield. And when it came to the end, to do or die, she would give it all for the victory and the boom.
And yet, here they are. Beacons. Icons. Stars. Silent as the night itself, enjoying the unspoken trust they seemed to have. Completely devoid of the world that venerated or despised them. Only when the curiosity got the better of her did Hana spoke up.
“You knew I would find the message.” She stated.
“Yep.”
“No hacking my stream. No flashing lights. No mech acting up.” She once again stated.
“Yep.
She waited for her to elaborate, but Sombra kept her eyes forward, while Hana turned to see her face.
“Why did you call me here?”
She waited for a moment, but no reply came. Just as she gazed to the sun setting in the horizon, she replied.
“Have you ever been tired? Of all of this, I mean.” The hacker asked.
“What do you mean?”
“Of this,” she gestured at themselves. “The acting? The fighting? The lying?” She shook her head. “Aren’t you tired of being “D.va”?” She turned to look at Hana. Taking a moment to appreciate the sunset, she slowly turned to the Mexican. As she took a deep breath, her eyes spoke volumes. The smile which she wore proudly disappeared, and her posture dropped drastically, stiffness painfully obvious appeared in her shoulders.
“Yep.” She imitated. This got a laugh out of the Hacker, which too let her guard down. She stretched her whole body as a loud crack came from her neck. Only now were the bags under her eyes visible to the Korean, but she made no further comment. Instead, she elaborated. “Of course I’m tired. I’m tired of perverted fans and 12-hour streams. I’m tired of being underestimated and undermined. I’m tired of not having any damn lore.” (I’m still waiting, Chu.) A smile escaped her lips as she asked. “And you? Finally tired of being “Sombra”?”
A smile of her own appeared on the Hacker, as she suppressed the urge to tease back. “I guess you could say that. Girl need her breaks, you know?” She laughed, and Hana laughed right back. “Still got it better than you thou. The only ones I have to worry about are the ones who want to kill me! And if anyone steps the line… Bam!” She punched the air. “Always with someone expecting something outta you… Dunno how you can deal with it.” She finally said.
Hanna stared for a second, searching for an indication on Sombra’s face. But then her mind wandered into her past. How she started winning. How she started streaming. The first contract, the first championship.
The first mission. The first death.
And just when she was about to stop, a figure appeared in her mind. Her mother, her father. Dr. Ziegler. Cpt. Amari. Dr. Zhou and Winston. Lucio, Grandpa, Genji.
“I think…” she started. “I think that’s because I’m not alone. Yeah, sure, people are assholes. But I also have people to fall back to when I really need to.” She said. Then it occurred to her. “Don’t you have anyone like that?” She asked, perhaps a bit naively. The flash of pain in Sombra’s face was an answer on its own, but she still wanted to amuse the gamer with a real answer. Her mind wandered to her own family, years back, before the war. Then to the gang, but no names. Then to Talon. To Gabe, to Widow, to the strange truce they had formed. The companionship between them. Their own little squad where none asked questions. To the unique moments where one of them actually needed assistance, when they were there for each other. But those were Reaper, Widow and Sombra. Not Gabriel, Amelie and Olivia. It felt weird. It felt cold. “They are a special bunch.” She finally answered. “We are a special bunch. Love ‘em to bits, but its… Delicate. How much they know.” How much they need to know. She spoke to herself. “Not exactly what you guys have there at Overwatch.”
D.va tried not to look too surprised, but deep inside she knew someone like her could never understand Sombra. She only heard bits and pieces, and none of them ended with a happy ending. Unconsciously, she brought a hand to the Hacker’s shoulder, as the later turned around to find a single tear on the Korean’s face. “I’m here now, ‘kay?” She said with a breaking voice. Why was she crying? Why did she felt like she understood? She knew next to nothing and yet, she couldn’t stop herself. Sombra’s face on the other hand bore a surprised expression, if only for a moment. Before turning into a sad smile, and finally letting free a tear from her eyes. “Geez chica, you’re gonna make me ruin my make up.” She said as they both laughed. Sombra raised a hand, perhaps unaware, on top of Hana’s. She didn’t take it back. She doubted the could even if wanted to. It felt warm in the cold of the twilight. They stayed like this until the last ray of sun touched the earth, and the stars covered the sky, at which Hana stood up. Sombra debated herself if she should stop her, but as she resigned herself to the lack of warmth from the gamer, the sound of dropping clothes caught her attention. Her mind raced as she turned around, only to find the Korean, now in civilian clothes, offering her hand to the Hacker.
“They won’t expect me to be back until tomorrow. And my butt’s getting cold.” She announced. “I’m sure we can get a cup of hot cocoa somewhere around here. The Mexican shook her head as a smile escaped her lips. Her eyes recorded the beautiful smile of the girl before her, before retreating to her all to well teases.
“I don’t know if having a world-loved gamer hanging out with a world-wanted criminal is the best way to enjoy the night.” Still, Hana did not retreat her hand. Her smile growing bigger as she spoke.
“I have no idea what are you talking about!” She laughed. “Right now, the only ones here are Hana and…” She stopped, realizing what she was saying. Maybe she was pushing it too far. It never occurred to her the real name of the hacker. How personal and private might that be. Dangerous, even. So just before she could apologize, a hand took hers, bringing her back from the storm of her mind to reality. A reality in which the girl before her let her hair flow in both sides of her head. And the glow from her body disappeared, only to give another type of enchantment altogether. A small blush creeped in Hana’s cheeks.
“Olivia.” She finally said. A blush of her own decorated her cheeks.
Maybe she didn’t have to be alone anymore.
“My name is Olivia.”

Lighthouses
I was reading fics that had to do with lighthouses while I was sick.  (I dunno, I was thinking of the fabulous Washed Ashore by Kathar, in which there isn’t actually a lighthouse, but you do have isolation, an ocean, and Clint being dragged out of the water.  And chickens, of course.  Avengers:  Phlint.) and found a great Merlin one, and it only had, like, 9 bookmarks and 10 comments, so, because I was feeling like shit but I wanted the author to know their story hadn’t been lost in the void, I said something like, ‘Great story!’.  And then I scrolled up, and all the other comments were lengthy analyses and detailed responses and feedback, and I look really lame.  Sigh.
But here’s the story, y’all should read it:
the lighthouse by scramjets
M, 37k, Merthur (Merlin)
In 1932, Merlin and Will take up the role of lighthouse keepers at Arthur's Lighthouse, situated on a small island off the coast. They're lucky for the work, grateful for the opportunity. The isolation of the job is easy to take in stride when it's the two of them.
In 1870, Arthur arrives at the lighthouse on his own. The workload is enough to keep his mind off things, so the idea of being lonely doesn't really touch him.
But isolation and loneliness can do things to a person. It makes them see what isn't there. Makes them aware of things that aren't supposed to exist. It makes time a thing that is difficult to pin down, that sometimes blurs out completely and lets things through.
What an INTERESTING story. It's pacing is slow (like Totoro), the author is taking their sweet time in painting a picture, and you'll get a third of the way in before you see enough to get a good concept. This is a ghost story with undertones of horror. It's surreal, and bleak, and lonely and detached. Merlin arrives at the lighthouse already in a weird dissociated kind of state, and Will's presence exacerbates it, especially since he is afraid of Merlin's 'gifts'. POV switches between Merlin, Will and Arthur. Will is solid, earthy, PRESENT in his world, and a perfect foil for the others, who are very much unanchored, both of them drifting and lost and seeking.
And here are couple of the others I found:
The Lighthouse Keeper by tugela54
E, 75k, Sterek (Teen Wolf)
On a rural island just off Alaska’s northern Inside Passage, stands a centuries old lighthouse - the perfect sanctuary for its keeper to hide when the moon is full, to burn and rage through its cycle with the townsfolk being none the wiser.
But then a new resident comes to Beacon Harbour – a bright-eyed young student chasing an elusive whale species – and all of a sudden those thick stone walls seem paper thin…
Whoa, that was an intense climax, I'm kinda breathless. Great story. Stiles is earnest and funny (and sooo hot for the giant, hairy, handsome man -- when author says size difference they are not messing around and it's mentioned frequently) and Derek is monosyllabic and awkward. They figure it out eventually, and there is hot sex (did I say size difference and hirsuteness?). Laura's a great werewolf-sister (Derek is the only werewolf) and her son Seth is a cutie. The cast of characters (Chris, Jordon, Finstock, Angus, Gladys and the two First People Miriam and Jonah) are interesting and fleshed-out. Love the plot, and the take on Derek's werewolf (not Teen Wolf style), love the First People lore and rituals, love the setting waaay up in Alaska on this tiny island. #bottom Stiles #like whoa
Into the Deep and Dark Spaces of the Mind by WantsUnicorns
E, 18k, Drarry (Harry Potter)
At first the lone lighthouse on the cliffs seems like the perfect spot to get away from it all. But when an old enemy appears, Harry realises that things might not be quite what they seemed.
Career Choices: Harry: Unspeakable; Draco: Archaeologist

RWBY Volume 5 Episode 5 Review
Mod Quartz here again! Look’s like I was right to choose the first episode in each cycle because DAMN, I drew an interesting episode this time around.
So our episode starts off with Sun and Blake going around trying to convince some of the Fanaus of Meangrie to sign a petition it seems to protect Haven Academia while it seems like the animators are looking for every animal trait they can find to meld with one of the character models. I will give credit to animators that they at least try to give Meangrie’s population some more variety as to show the diverse range of Fanaus that can result in their race. Although some do confuse like the more aquatic Fanaus. Do they have the ability to breath underwater? Can they only live in water? Do they reproduce like mammals or like fish? I get that they can’t go into depth so much since theres so little time but, maybe create a World Of Remnant series to play in the off months to explain more. I’m sure losing one or two episodes of RWBY chibi wouldn’t be much compared to clarifying the lore a bit more.
Any how, while Sun ad Blake try to recruit some people to help them (in which Sun almost recruits an unknowning teen but to be far, he was like a foot taller than him), nobody seems to want to help. As Blake explains, the people who came willingly to Meangrie and weren’t born on the island came because they were sick of the pressure and trials of living with humans and just want to be left alone which makes sense. Why else would you choose to live in DEATH AUSTRALIA other than to get away from people? l though I have to wonder about Blake’s line about “putting the world before themselves” line. Is about the world or the humans? We never see WHY they are being rejected which would help here but sadly, we don’t get anything and that keeps us in the dark.
Blake then goes onto say that Adam’s actions will affect them whether they want it to or not as his actions while speaking on behalf of the Fanaus will make things worse for everyone. And sadly this is true. When there is a bad group of people in any vaguely connected group, they all get ht bwith the bad reputation. That’s why organizations like the KKK are bad: Because not only to they harm people for no real reason but then everyone even vaguely connected to them gets hit with their stigma as well. And considering how the White Fang participated in taking down Beacon, things will get ugly if they take out Haven as well.
Then we have Sun not-too-subtly trying to get to know his competition (I know that probably wasn’t his intention but I couldn’t resist.) And Buddy, even with your following, you are still a way better choice than Douchey McStabbyTerrorist. So Blake goes onto explain why she liked Adam and whys he feels the way about him she does now. She says that she has meet people who are basically the embodiment of words and we get her opinions on the reast of Team RWBY (and Sun) before Adam with Ruby being “purity”, Weiss being “defiance”, Yang being “Strength” and Sun being on the fence with a leaning to “Earnest.” Well the Blake shippers are gonna have a field day with this.
Anyway, she goes onto explain Adam. At first she describes him as Justice then as Passion before settling on Spite. And she makes it clear that it isn’t Rage or Hate like we believed him to be but Spite. Blake talks about how Adam operates, how he refuses equality to instead cause suffering to the world he thinks made him suffer before talking Illa and how Adam’s way of thinking is dangerously contiguous. And that really does make sense. It’s really easy to blame the world for your problems and try to enact vengeance on the world for what it did to you.  It’s easy to see yourself as justified in taking back what was taken from you, “eye for an eye” as the saying goes. But it also brings to mind “eye for an eye and the whole world’s blind”: Adam has gone too far to the point that other people are his victims and can take a shot at his eyes. Thus the cycle would keep going and going and going until the whole world breaks down. It emphasies the need to let go and work for the greater good.
We then hear Blake talk a bit about Illa, how she admired Illa for fighting in the White Fang despite the fact that she could pass as human, how she was trained with Illa in how to fight and how to survive and how when Sienna and Adam rose to power, Ill as well as herself became more dangerous people as a whole. Sun then asks what she is gonna do and Blake replies that she’s gonna do for Illa what Sun did for her: be there even as they push others away. This is actually pretty nice as while Sun made a few mistakes in Volume 4 (It was Volume 4, everyone was making mistakes Mostly the writers.), so did Blake. Here we see Blake accepting that and moving beyond that. Blake’s truly developing here.
After that, we cut to Oscar training with the cane while Ruby walks down to tell him that dinner is ready. Oscar talks a little about how he never really fought before and how he feels so at home with the cane, as though he has had it for a lifetime or even longer. ... DUnno what to make of this with Ozpin so I’ll just move on. Ruby then says that if he keeps training he’ll be readyin no time, dropping Penny’s old Euphamism of “Combat Ready!” And then she goes sad, much like the entire fandom at that line. Oscar catches on and tries saying something but Ruby just tries walking away. This is rather important in that t shows that Ruby still refuses to properly process and grieve for her dead friends. Ruby, for all her strength, is still a child who can’t properly process death well enough.
Then Oscar asks her how she can be okay with everything going, talking about how he’s overwhelmingly scared and how he never asked for any of this. Ruby tries comforting him by saying that she and her friends went to Beacon to help people but how they needed to keep going, which Oscar snaps and lashes out at her about how people have tried to kill her and the world’s about to go to war and how she’s okay with this. We see Ruby look down from Oscar’s gaze and see Oscar calm down right before we get perhaps the greatest speech from Ruby Rose we’ve had yet.
She talks about how when Beacon fell, she lost Pyrrha and Penny. She talks about how even though she didn’t spend a whole lot of time with Penny and Pyrrha, they were still some of the kindest people she knew. She also talked about how that was able to save them and how Pyrrha, in trying to help the world, died knowing she couldn’t win. Ruby talks about how she’s scared, not just for herself but for the whole world because of the ruthlessness she exhibits. She goes onto talk about how she’s in pain from their deaths, how she didn’t get to have more time with them...and how it would have been her instead, where Pyrrha and Penny would have kept fighting no matter the danger. Ruby says that’s why she keeps fight and why she keeps moving forward. Socar walks up to Ruby and smiles thankfully at her while Ruby returns it, wipes away her tears and walks away, giving him words of encouragement.
... I’m probably gonna make a post about this scene in particular and how much it shows Ruby’s strength but for now, let’s say that is very rare for this sentiment to be shown in such a real context.
We stay with Oscar a bit as he talks to Ozpin, who calls Ruby remarkable. Oscar responds by saying that she must have been one of the best huntresses at Beacon. WHile Ozpin admits that Ruby has her own fair share of quirks and flaws like everyone, he talks about how Ruby is able to inspire and keep people moving in spite of the odds. Oscar concludes that things must be hard on her and Ozpin reassures that notion rather grimly.
And to the final scene, we see the Fox Fanaus brothers finishing a message and trying to discuss their thoughts (well, one is, the taller, bigger one just wants to do his duty) while standing in front of what can only be called a WHITE FANG SHRINE. Jesus, Sun calling the White Fang a “cult” is really looking appropriate right now. Especially as when Illa comes in, she bows to them until she is ordered up and the smaller twin refers to the Mistral branch as a “brotherhood.” Listen everyone, I don’t scare easily. I’m a horror movie fan and I once laughed my ass off at the entire line of Hellraiser movies. So know that when I say this, I mean it: I’m freaking scared here.
Although I really love Illa here. She clearly doesn’t like Sienna being killed by Adam as she is shown to vsbly look away upon hearing this and when asking about her, she’s smiling. Sadly, Sienna is said to be buried with honor. (Hey, I at least understood where Sienna was coming from so she does deserve some honor.) And when the taller brother tells her about the story being told to the other branches, she’s seen looking down when calling it a necessary sacrifice. Illa’s being pushed far here and you can tell from her demeanor.
The Fox brothers go on to say that they have another mission which Illa says she’ll do. They talk about how the White Fang is going through a transitional period (read: conversion to true terrorism) and Illa says that for the betterment of the Fanaus, they can do it. They go on to explain how they have control or information in Meangrie and how news of Adam’s takeover hasn’t reached them yet. However, when it does, the people will resist it due to Ghira speaking against them. And because of that, they need to be “silenced” since as, like Sienna, they prevent “true progress.” And since Illa knows Blake, she is integral to the mission. And when she tries talking about the people, they make a vague threat about enforcing control and how they’ll be without a leader until their victory is certain.
And throughout this Illa is looking scared as hell. She is clearly shocked that they would ask her to kill Blake and her family and how they would destabilize Menagrie just to assert power. It’s clear here that Illa is being pushed to the breaking point and its ems the brother’s know this as they rationalize their actions as a “necessary sacrifice.” It’s clear what they are doing here: Trying to rationalize everything they do to avoid people seeing just how deep in the murk they are. It’s what all radicals do.
And Illa exits the scene as they discuss the possibility of Ghira being a martyr before playing Stabby McAbuseyDick’s message. Basically: Man scorned, want girl alive but suffering. Usual Adam stuff. He is clearly insane here, something that even the BROTHERS notice. They rationalize it as being necessary for their now leader, showing that even THEY have more standards and have a more just reason than Adam. Then someone knocks at the door and we see a bat Fanaus by the name of Yuna informing them that he killed a messenger of Ghira’s while the episode ends with them assured that their plans are set.
All in all, it was another good episode. I really enjoyed the Oscar and Ruby part as we got to see the stress of the duty hit Oscar and see how much Ruby has grown. The last scene with the brothers scared treh crap out of me due to the parallels with cults and just how much I could see this happening in real life. And while I wasn’t a big fan of the first part (mostly because I’m not a Blake fan and that it should have been more detailed): it was still a solid addition and was necessary to set up Blake’s next step in her plotline. Volume 5 seems to be trying to patch up the problems from the previous Volumes and it seems to be doing a pretty good job. Although time will tell if things continue like this.
Until then, see ya in Episode 9!
