#i have always imagined natsu telling gray and erza that hes in love with lucy
tokkias · 1 year
Note
Do you have any headcanons about the people around natsu and Lucy and how they see the two in their not quite lovers state? Not really a fan fic ask but something fun!
hi anon! thank you for the ask, i had a lot of fun with this one. i actually got a liiiiittle bit carried away and sort of ended up writing how they percieve their relationship as a whole, so theres a little bit of when they’re in their more-than-friends-but-less-than-lovers stage, and a little bit of when they’re dating too, so i hope thats okay! i just did some of the characters i thought would have the most to say about their relationship, but if you’d like to see other specific characters i wouldn’t mind doing another writeup :)
Happy
happy is the one person (cat?) that natsu would ever talk about his feelings for lucy with, but not even in like a serious way, in a very casual “hey i think i might be in love with lucy” way, and happy is like “yeah i know”
even though he loves to tease lucy and make fun of her and be a general pain in her ass, she’s his favourite person (aside from natsu), and he wants to have her stay in their lives forever
as much of a little shit he is, he never tells anyone what natsu told him, because he knows that he needs to go at his own pace, even if that pace is slow as shit
on one hand, he knows that natsu and lucy dating/getting married means that lucy is in fact stuck with them for the rest of her life, but on the other hand there’s a tiny insecure voice in the back of his head that’s scared that he’s gonna lose his best friend to her
obviously no that won’t happen because they both love happy, and them wanting to be alone sometimes have sex doesn’t mean that he’s going to be any less of a priority in their lives
natsu lucy and happy are just a little family and they’re going to be a family regardless of their relationship status, the two of them dating and moving in together is just a fun little bonus
Gray
gray was probably one of the first people to really pick up on the fact that natsu and lucy might be heading in the direction of more than friends
because of their forced close proximity growing up, and then again by being on the same team, he begrudgingly knows natsu really well, so he’s quick to pick up on how natsu treats lucy different from how he treats everyone else
in terms of him figuring out how lucy feels about natsu, it’s really more of and educated guess at first because he obviously doesn’t know her as well as he knows natsu, and the way she changes once she figures out she’s in love with natsu comes off as a lot more subtle
gray is not invested in anything that is going on in natsu’s life, so he doesn’t give their relationship any thought until it becomes super obvious to him that lucy is in love with natsu
he recognises that lucy makes natsu a better, and more tolerable person
but he also absolutely thinks that lucy can do way better than him
it takes him a while to get past his “what the fuck does she even see in him” phase, but he does inevitably realise that somehow, natsu makes her really happy
will absolutely remind natsu at any given opportunity that lucy is waaaayyy out of his league
Erza
if gray was the first to figure it out, then erza was the last
not because she’s dumb or anything, it’s just that most of the time she spends with natsu and lucy involves mass amounts of property damage
also maybe autism, but thats a whole different post
once she is informed that natsu and lucy have a more than friends thing going on, she starts to see it constantly
she begins to interpret literally any of their interactions as possibly having romantic intent (she’s just like us <3)
she can’t look either of them in the eye for like two weeks while she tries to figure out if they’re having sex (they’re not, they just have an insane amount of sexual tension)
natsu is basically her baby brother and she feels a lot of pride watching him grow up and fall in love, and become a more mature person in the process
she’s just rooting for them so hard because! that’s her family! she wants them both to be happy!
she drops the most obvious hints that she wants to see them in a relationship, thinking that she is being so subtle, but she is NOT
has to physically hold herself back from planning their wedding as soon as they become official
Wendy
natsu, lucy and wendy, as a trio are giving very much “girl who hangs out with her older brother and his much cooler girlfriend” vibes
for a little bit wendy thought that maybe they were actually dating, but she didn’t want to overstep or embarrass them by asking
she’s witness to a lot of gossip about the two in the girls dorm, but she’s never one to contribute to it
very quietly she does think they would make a cute couple because they already act like one anyway
natsu and lucy are also like, her primary reference for what a good, healthy romantic relationship looks like, and secretly she really hopes that she gets to experience what they have one day
Levy
if lucy is confiding in anyone about her feelings, it’s going to be levy
so she is the only one that is watching them knowing for 100% sure how lucy feels
she wants to see lucy in a happy relationship so bad because she wants the best for lucy, but she’s also tired of her going on shitty dates with boring guys who they both know aren’t right for her
levy definitely isn’t close to natsu, but they still did grow up in the guild together and she’s watched him go from a lone wolf to needing to be around lucy at all times
so yeah, she has an inkling that maybe natsu likes her back, and she lets lucy know what she thinks every time he’s bought up
she definitely gossips about them to gajeel, who pretends he doesn’t care but he secretly does because even though he pretends to be all big and tough, those two are still part of his dumb stupid found family

Headcannons about sick!gray? Mine is that ice mages get sick really easily but he’s just great at hiding it until Lyon mentions it or something and suddenly the guild freaks out at a sniffle
Also don’t know if it’s any interest to you, but sometimes when I’m making fiction in my head I imagine gray is actually sick. Like when he does wear clothes they’re always tight around the middle, right? So what if being under all the rubble did something to his lungs/chest and so he needs the support sometimes
edit from like two hours after i responded, you asked me for my personal headcanons, but all i did was play on yours, so sorry 🙁
omg tysm for the ask, i love this
i agree that ice mages get sick easier than other mages, but also any mage whos magic effects their temperature fluctuation, (i might make a full post abt that later)
also i am dramatic and love to ramble, sorry if its too long!!
Gray is good at handling things himself, hes been taking care of himself for over a decade, itd be weird if he wasn’t
He takes care of others, looks after his guild-mates, maybe to pay off some sort of debt, or maybe because they dont take care of themselves (what a hypocrite)
he takes care of them, he doesn’t expect them to take on roles for him, didn’t expect them to take care of him; he did perfectly fine on his own, thank you very much
-Fairy Tail disagrees-
The moment Lyon started telling them horror stories about how often and how intense Gray got sick while learning magic, all hell broke loose, specifically, his team broke loose
Erza started grilling Lyon, how did he get sick, how often on average, why is it so easy, how did they help him as a kid, what do you mean he couldnt breathe? HISBODYCOULDNTWHAT???
(it felt all too familiar to a criminal interrogation)
Lucy fretted over Gray, eyes panicking trying to search for an illness that wasnt yet there, asking if he felt ill now, does he need water? should he sit down? why is he so red?
(why does she look so scared?)
Happy all but launched himself into Grays chest, crying about why he didnt tell them and other nonsensicals he could fully make out
Wendy popping in to say that while she cant heal illnesses she can help him any way she can, and maybe she cried just a little abt how she couldn’t help him fully
(a kid shouldnt be so stressed about not being able to help fix a problem that they didn’t make)
Natsu, now Natsu was pissed. Hes no stranger to being reckless and he knows it, but this wasn’t him, this was Gray; Gray who had always helped him through sicknesses and injuries, some of which the guild didnt even know of. why didnt he trust them to help him? why didnt he ever tell them anything? why didnt he figure it out?
it hurt. it really did.
(why isnt he trying to fight him? why isnt he yelling?
Gray stood there, red in the face and truly embarrassed, he didnt think it was that big of a deal and here they were, here was his guild, his family. vowing to take care of him from here on out.
He doesnt think hes ever felt so embarrassed, and guilty, and so loved all at once
also a foreboding, hes not sure why though
as it turns out, he was right to be cautious
days later he had a cold, a measly cold, he sniffled maybe once or twice, and he might’ve stumbled just a little, and all of a suddenly he was next to the guild fireplace, covered in too many blankets, a thermos in hand, and people constantly insisting on getting him things
he knew he shouldn’t have come today
although, they had every right to be worried, as it very quickly turned into pneumonia. lucky him
He was taken to the guild infirmary, his team right there with him
even through the chills, the too short and too fast breathing, the obnoxious heat in his whole body, and the ever so slight delirium creeping into his thoughts
he felt the hand atop his, felt the heavy weight of sharp eyes that miss nothing on him;
he felt the purring mini oven tucked into his side;
he felt a hand usually covered in armor carding through his hair, wiping the sweat from his forehead with a cool cloth;
he felt the way a trembling hand gripped his no longer free hand, felt the telltale sign of whisperers against his fingers;
he felt the minuscule vibrations of scrambling around him, heard the clinking of glass bottles no doubt full of remedies
he felt, loved.
THID IS SO LONG IM SORRY BUT IM SO OVERDRAMATIC AND LOVE TO RAMBLE
NOW FOR THE SECOND PART THAT I LOVE SO MUCH!
being under that collapsed building fucking with his lungs and ribs isnt something i ever thought of!
thats genius, i love it
im just imagining permanent damage to his lungs, not being able to use them to their full capacity, and maybe chronic pain in his ribcage area and sharp pains when he tries to draw in deep breaths
i think Makarov obvs knew this (maybe he makes everyone has full check ups yearly or every couple years, but also everytime someone joins the guild)
he warned Gray against overexerting himself because it could be especially dangerous for him
he was prescribed an inhaler and medication for his breathing and pain
but this was and is a boy full of too much pride and guilt, maybe he thinks he deserves it, maybe just doesnt care what happens to him, maybe he simply doesnt know his limits; but for whatever reason he doesnt listen, doesnt use his support unless it is absolutely unbearable
of course it gets better over the years, but that didnt start willingly, the guild found out, maybe Gray let it slip, maybe Jii-Chan did, or maybe they heard him scolding Gray for overdoing it again
but they found out and would check up on him, give him advice from some of their experience with their own disabilities
Ive hced for a while that Gildarts was particularly fatherly (or like, a protective uncle…ly?) with the kids of Fairy Tail, so i think he wouldve been the one to get him this pressure support thing for his ribs
it worked, and so does heating pads/packs, which lead to the next development
and after Gray joined up with his team and got closer, he would make Natsu be his own personal heat pack bc that is such a sweet and silly image to me
Natsu surprisingly complained minimally
i wonder why? :)
more little sick things
Gray doesnt get hungover, probably the only illness he gets lucky on
he gets really talkative and delirious when hes sick, and clingy
he’ll ramble abt random things he has to do, not realizing he cant for obvious reasons
he’ll talk about life before Ur, about his siblings who never had the chance to live; about ppl who left Isvan before Deloria came, wondering if theyre alive and actually living, if they remember him
whoever’s with him does him the courtesy of not bringing it up when hes better
Lucy gets really scared when people are sick, it makes her think of watching her mom deteriorate, she refuses to go through that again
She spoke to Natsu and Erza about this while Gray was sick once, broke down and said she wad terrified of losing someone she loves to a stupid sickness again
Gray will cling to the person closest to him when he’s ill, holding their hand, leaning on them, just not letting them leave; he finally is letting himself be taken care of and it feels good, he’ll be damned if he lets that go again
Natsu was so angry when Lyon told them, he was so angry and so scared that even with his heightened senses he didnt know anything at all
If hes with Gray when hes sick, he rarely takes his eyes off the uneven rise and fall of his best friends chest, as to reassure himself that Gray was still breathing, that he was still here and didn’t disappear
Gray will get up and try to get things done when hes sick, he is not the type to sit down and rest and recover
he had to be physically hauled back to bed on multiple occasions
Erza is lost when people are sick, ever the leader though, she tried to take the lead, giving people jobs and trying to make sure everything is order
it ends up quite the opposite though, halfway through she reluctantly hands the reins to someone else
she tries though
Gray has a box full of ‘get well soon!’ gifts and cards, he likes to look through then and read all the messages over and over again
i lied. he has three boxes, his friends are overachievers
fin.

Hi!
I'm sort of wondering when FT members will learn more about the dragon family's history, and who in particular will learn about it.
I mean, Mirajane finally guessed that Natsu is a demon, and while I doubt Natsu will explain everything to her (given that it would imply revealing secrets that are not only his own), I'm actually not even sure he will mention being an etherious specifically, but if he does, I rather doubt he will disclose what his true relationship with Zeref is (since it would be hard to do either of those things without explaining the whole time travel thing or at least that Zeref is immortal, though I guess he can asks Mirajane not to question that part, but more than that there's a significant difference between being created by a "bad guy" and being related to a "bad guy", so I'm not sure he'll trust Mirajane with that information.)
Anyway my point is : he might not tell Mirajane everything, but the fact that she found out but did not hate him might actually change things for him. What's more, hearing about the part where Erza, Jellal, Lucy and GRAY of all people, made friends with a village of demons might also quell some fears. (As long as he doesn't hear about the Deliora part of the story or that it doesn't affect him too much, that he understand Deliora was hated (and frozen to death) because he was destructive and killed people (including Gray's parents), not just because he was an etherious).
So I wonder if Natsu will start being more open about the fact that he's part demon, at least with the guildmates he's closest to. I mean, sure Acnologia told him it might be better to keep it quiet but a) he meant that in a general context, b) he barely knew let alone trusted the guild and its members at the time.
Speaking of which, I'm also thinking about the dragon's families other secrets, namely their origin, Acnologia's past and their connection with Zeref.
For now, I believe that except for the Exceeds and the dragons slayers plus Anna, no one has the whole story? Lisanna maybe? She knew most of it, I'm just not sure if she was ever told why they were sent in the future (in other words, what Acnologia did).
Other than that, the people closest to them would be Mystgoan, team Thunderstorm, team Shadow Gear and Jellal & Erza. It was pretty clear in the 24 hours race one-shot that Jellal and Erza knew next to nothing, basically they're just friends with Erik and they learnt about dragon slaying magic in passing. Regarding team Shadow Gears, I'm not even convinced Jet and Droy know of the dragonlings' dragon slaying magic, so I doubt they know anything else. Levy does know Acnologia is a dragon (and I must say I'm curious as to how that happened), but I'm really not sure about the rest, I would guess she might know about the time travel, but not Acnologia's past or Zeref. Thunderstorm is probably pretty much unaware of everything - I'm actually not even 100% sure Laxus knows about Zeref. Though with the summer camp thing he would have found out about Natsu, so... Mystgoan I'm really not sure about, but I also don't think he knows anything, if only because he's always too busy with other things.
I'm really curious to see if any of them will be told more in a near future. Or someone else entirely, Lucy for instance. Or if the revelations will always happen accidentally, on the battlefield, through another person, etc.
I'm fondly imagining Erik reassuring Natsu that Erza and/or Jellal wouldn't hold his being a demon against him, nor his being Zeref's brother, nor his loving him still, nor even his not (completely) believing Zeref is a bad person, as long as Natsu explained why he believes that. Because Erik does know enough about them (and the past they share) to know they wouldn't care, would still trust him and care for him all the same. I can even imagine Erik supporting Natsu telling Gray or Lucy about his being a demon, if Erik heard about their demon friends of Galuna Island. (Maybe not the Zeref part though. A bit too risky I'd say.)
I'm really found of secrets and reveals, of the hurt and comfort and the drama. I really look forward to pasts being revealed, be it by choice or due to old enemies (or friends) coming back to haunt the Fairies.
Ah yes this is an excellent question anon. Especially since I know I've been bad/vague on establishing who-knows-what since I've been hitting major events and then going back and filling in details at random times, both because of my flighty mind, and because I've been toeing around some things until I committed. Like this one.
Nevertheless, there are people who know, and over the course of the series, more people will find out in-story. Especially once we hit major group-fests like the Tenrou and GMG arcs.
Their squirreliness and awkward relationship with secrets is certainly something to be addressed. Really, it's like this with the majority of Fairy Tail, and it's a theme I am absolutely fascinated by: FT parades around as a "family," and they trust and love each other, but very few people in the guild are comfortable trusting each other with emotional hurt. Which is to say, the fact that FT is a fresh start for people is an amazing thing, but the focus on moving forward sometimes causes things not to be addressed. Erza would never have told anyone about the Tower on her own; Cana won't tell Gildarts he's her dad; the dragon slayers don't want to bring up their time displacement and quasi-dead parents; Gray didn't want to tell anyone about his and Ur's last conversation; Mirajane didn't want to be anything reminiscent of her younger, scared self. The dragons have created a sort of microcosm of emotional vulnerability within Fairy Tail, mostly by accident and the nature of shared secrets, but that doesn't extend to all of the guild. It's a question of whether it should, or by how much; of where to draw the line between lingering in the past and letting it drag you down unwittingly; of what makes family, and what that really means.
I ramble, but I say that all to say that it's a theme I want to try to intersperse and play with as the series progresses. So to answer your question: yes, secrets will be spilled and/or shared willingly. More people will find out more information. Like with Mirajane in this arc, because Natsu—despite having the most secrets—is a very trusting individual once it starts to unravel. (Almost like secrets can take a toll on the mind: what a concept.) So, without giving away everything, I will say that Mirajane will learn quite a bit by the end of their adventure.
As for who knows, there's actually a handful of people who know a lot, maybe save a detail or two. It's been mentioned a few times (I think, like with Acno's retrospection in bringing in Erik) that once somebody starts being at the house all of the time, secrets go out the window. The fun thing about that bunch is that while they have a ton of secrets, personality-wise, they're not very secretive. That's why the go-to response is avoidance 80% of the time. So Lisanna, Levy, Mystogan, Laxus, and Bickslow know pretty much everything, from a combination of being told things and exposure from always being around. (Lisanna got told everything out the gate by Natsu, since secrets are like his least-favorite thing, and then she was around when other stuff was discovered. Similarly for Levy, Mystogan, and Laxus. Bickslow found some things by accident and then the rest through him being surprisingly chill with everything; I have a side story that I think I referenced in another one that I've been wanting to write that focuses on Bickslow and Lisanna having to figure out soul magic because they're all confused af, but I haven't gotten to that one yet so I understand that nobody knows of what exists in my head, lol.)
It trickles down from there. Erza and Jellal know about what Erik went through, and they know about some dragon slayer magic stuff, but not any of the backstory. (Mostly because Erza didn’t think to question anything, and Jellal was too awkward too, hence the 24-Hour-Race stuff.) Same with Freed and Evergreen. Jet and Droy know a bit more, including about some of the time travel stuff, but nothing in regards to Natsu or Zeref or the Acno-is-an-actual-dragon thing.
With more to come, as I said. Because yeah, as things progress—like with the Galuna peeps figuring out more—it will start coming up slowly. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, that’s for sure. I, too, love all the revealing secrets tropes. >:)

IN EVERY UNIVERSE
"JUVIAAAA"
He should have known. He should have seen it coming the moment he heard that blue cat call out her name. Of course nothing good would come from this. That stupid cat, exceed, whatever he is, was raised by Natsu after all.  But he didn't think much of it when he saw him flying towards Juvia, who was currently sitting with the other girls and landing in the middle of their table.
"Yes Happy?"
"Remember what I told you when we came back from Edolas?"
Happy was wiggling his tail excitedly, while trying to hold back from spilling the information immediately. After all, he lives for the drama. Juvia on the other hand was just looking at him, confusion written all over her face.
"Juvia isn't following.."
"You know, about the Juvia in Edolas and how the Gray there is obsessed with her.."
"Oh yes! Of course Juvia remembers that! The other Juvia is very lucky.."
"Yeah, and guess what? She got even luckier. Turns out they've got-"
"HAPPY!"
Gray had to stop him before he spilled too much. Why were they on the other side of the hall anyways? Juvia was always stuck to him whenever he came back from a mission. Why did she have to abandon him now of all times?
"What is it Gray? I'm busy delivering information."
"If you don't shut it that's the last information you'll ever deliver."
At that Happy visibly gulped. Gray was sure he was considering whether it was worth taking the risk. He probably still remembered the incident where Gray had declared him his enemy. Gray himself didn't remember much of what happened, just that it wasn't his proudest moment when he woke up half naked on an island surrounded by strangers. Now however, he was glad it had happened. At least that cat knew what he was dealing with and wouldn't dare to finish that sentence.
"Hey popsicle, are you threatening Happy?"
This just keeps getting better. Of course Natsu had to get involved as well. All he wanted was to enjoy being back home and spending some time with Juvia. And he wasn't doing either. Really, the last thing he needed was Natsu and his damn cat to ruin things for him.
"I don't threaten anyone unless necessary. So if you want to save him from trouble, tell your cat to back off."
"I'M AN EXCEED!"
"Like I care. Point is, shut up."
"HEY, DON'T TALK TO HAPPY LIKE THAT!"
"Stay out of it, flamebrain!"
"IF HAPPY IS INVOLVED, I'M INVOLVED."
"Whatever.."
He just needed to get to Juvia. There was no need to participate in the conversation with Natsu. Not that you could actually hold one. It would always end in a fight and if that idiot doesn't shut up soon, Gray was sure that this will be the case today as well. So he decided to be the bigger person and ignore Natsu, no matter how much he was provoked. However Natsu didn't get the message.
"What's up with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're being weird lately. Happy noticed too, right Happy?"
"Aye!"
"I'm not being weird, what the hell are you talking about?"
"I think it's because he's jealous of you!"
"WHY WOULD I BE JEALOUS OF NATSU?"
"He did tell me what happened.. is it because he has more woman than you?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You know, that snow woman. He had quite a lot on his side, you however just had-"
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
Like it wasn't bad enough that he was going to tell Juvia about their Edolas counterparts, she really didn't need to know about that whole woman in the depth of his heart thing.
"You're jealous of me?"
"Who's jealous of who?
"Gray is jealous of Natsu."
"Seriously?"
"NO!"
That's it. He's going to kill that cat. But first he'll have to deal with Natsu because he was costing him his nerves as well. So next thing he knew, they were throwing fists at each other until Erza forcefully stopped them.
"What is this about? Explain yourself before I pull out my sword."
"Grays being mean to Happy."
"That's because Happy is stupid! Probably got it from you.."
"SILENCE! Happy!"
"Yes?"
"Explain!"
"Well, Gray is being mean to me just because I wanted to tell Juvia about what we saw in Edolas. I don't see why he's so worked up over it, I mean I was just going to say that they're married."
"Who's married?"
"Gray and Juvia!"
Silence. The whole guild went silent. Well, except for Happys snickering. Gray could swear he felt his soul leave his body. He was certain he would never hear the end of it. After all, he could already feel the eyes on him.
"Gray and Juvia are married in Edolas?" It was Juvia who decided to break the awful silence. Happy nodded eagerly in response to her question.
More silence. Or as Gray would say, the calm before the storm.
"Is that true?" Juvia was looking at him with wide eyes. He knows her well enough by now to know exactly what was currently going on in her head. He could tell her imagination was going wild with wedding pictures. But she was clearly holding back from squealing, instead she kept staring at him, desperately waiting for an answer. Gray sighed.
"Yes.."
And then all hell broke loss. Mira was cornering him trying to find out as much as possible, while Cana kept adding her inappropriate comments. Elfman starting shouting something about marriage being manly, whatever that meant. By the time Gray had managed to escape from them Juvia was no longer in sight.
"Juvia?"
"She went outside, said she needed to cool down."  Lucy smirked proudly, making Gray fear her next sentence. "Good thing you're an ice wizard. Who else could cool her down?"
"Hilarious. I'm going outside."
"Of course you are."
Gray didn't bother reacting anymore. Instead he went to search for Juvia. The cold air outside hit him in the face. It wasn't until now that he realized how stuffy it was in there.
He distanced himself from the guild hall while keeping an eye out for his bluenette. He really had missed her during his mission and now that he was back, he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. After all, he had finally acknowledged his feelings for her and after seeing their counterparts in Edolas and that vision he had been trapped in, it just made him long for her more.
Those feelings still freaked him out somehow. He wasn't aware that he was capable of feeling this much for someone. But Juvia had really broken down every single one of his walls. And he was really grateful for that. She was the one who kept pulling him back whenever he was close to the edge. She's his power to live, even though having admitted that so bluntly in front of her still got him all embarrassed. And her teasing didn't help one bit.
"Juvia!" He spotted her on a bench near the lake. She seemed lost in thought. When she heard his voice however, she immediately spun around.
"Graysama! Juvia is sorry for leaving so abruptly.."
"Don't worry about that. Are you okay?"
He sat down next to her. Usually he would leave a space between them, not wanting to give her any ideas. But things changed. And now here he was, sitting as close to her as possible, longing for her touch. Juvia smiled at him.
"Juvia is very happy that you're back."
"I'm happy to be back too. I.." He cleared his throat and looked away shyly. "I missed you."
"Juvia missed you too. Juvia was wondering whether you were doing alright, if you manged to stay dressed and whether the others bothered to pick up the clothes you discarded.." she kept talking but Gray was too focused on her beauty, wondering how he'd gotten so lucky having someone like her in his life.
"I want what they have as well." Gray had blurted out the thought before he could realize it.
"What who has?" Juvia questioned him. He could go back on his word, pretend he never said it. But what's the point? He was just making himself suffer by prolonging it. And he had promised her to be clear with his intentions once he got back, not that he got to finish that promise before he was swept back to Elentir. Point is, it was time for him to be honest.
"I want what Edolas Gray and Juvia have.."
"You want.. you want to marry Juvia!?"
"What? No!"
"No?"
This wasn't going the way he wanted it all. Gray sighed.
"One day."
"One day?"
"Yes, one day I'm going to marry you. But I think it's still a little early for that. To be fair, our counterparts in Edolas are older.."
Juvia just kept looking at him in disbelief. He couldn't blame her. It wasn't exactly his style to be so open and honest. They didn't start dating yet and he was already talking about marriage. Juvia had really impacted him..
"Listen. I want to be with you. Like Edo Gray is with Edo Juvia, like Fairy Nail Glen is with Fairy Nail Juvina.. I want Earthland Gray to be with Earthland Juvia as well."
"What's Fairy Nail? And who is Juvina?"
"That's a long story.. point is I want to be with you. I'm sorry I'm not as clear with my intentions as the other me. But that doesn't mean I want you less than he wants his Juvia.."
By this point Gray was a blushing mess. He couldn't bring himself to look at her, too afraid to see her reaction. He had literally just run her over with emotions.
"Graysama doesn't have to be sorry."
"Huh?"
"For not being as clear with his feelings. I feel in love with this version of Gray, the Earthland version. Juvia wouldn't change a thing about you."
Gray smiled at her. She was truly too perfect. How did she always know what to say? She seemed so calm and collected while he was literally trying his best not to freak out.
"And Juvia would like that very much as well. Earthland Gray and Earthland Juvia being together.." she was looking at Gray sweetly and he couldn't help the smile that took over his face.
"I promise to be the best version of myself for you."
"You already are."
They smiled at each other and Gray tucked behind the hair that had fallen into her face. He found himself leaning closer and he saw Juvia doing the same. He had just closed his eyes, just a little away from finally kissing her after thinking about it for so long, when a voice interrupted them, making them jump apart.
"Gray loves Juvia!"
"Quiet Happy!
"They are so cute together."
"About time he made a move."
How had he not seen them hiding behind that bush. He'll admit Lucy, Wendy and Charles were hidden pretty well, but Natsus pink hair and Happys blue fur were visible to everyone. And Erza hadn't even bothered hiding. He must have been too focused on the girl in front of him to notice. Said girl was now blushing furiously.
"I'm going to kick their asses.."
"Juvia thinks it's sweet that they're so supportive of you. You have a great team."
"How are they a great team? They literally interrupted a very important moment."
"Juvia knows.. but Juvia is very happy already."
"So you don't want me to kiss you?"
"Juvia didn't say that!"
He was truly enjoying teasing her. So much, he was able to ignore his friends presence. So instead of letting them ruin their moment, he leaned in and finally, after so long, kissed her. It took her a moment to react, but once she did, Gray felt like the luckiest person in the universe. He was never going to let her go.
"Juvia loves you very much."
"And I love Juvia very much."
He kissed her again, already addicted. His friends were cheering, probably happy that he finally made a move. He couldn't blame them, it took him long enough.
"All that because I told her about Edolas Gray and Juvias marriage. Imagine what she'll do when she hears about Greige.."
"Who's Greige?"
"HAPPY!"
♡♡♡
Here you have it, my contribution to Gruvia day! I hope you like it, let me know what you think :)
Also, I'm still fangirling over the drawing we got today. Maybe I'll write something about that too one day..
Anyways, happy Gruvia day! ♡

The Gift She Wants
Masterlist
Warnings: None this is just pure fluff.
Relationships: Nalu
Summary: Natsu attempts to write Lucy a love letter for her birthday.
-------------
Lucy’s never really enjoyed her birthday. It used to be fun when her mom was still around. But after her death, her birthday had always been ignored by her father. But that all changed once she joined Fairy Tail. Every morning on July 1st she’d walk into the guild to find a huge party set up for her. It was a sweet gesture even though the guild hall usually wound up trashed by the end of the day because of all the drinking and fighting that ensued.
But that wasn’t the only thing that was the same every year. The presents that Lucy got from her friends were all the same. Gray would make her a little ice sculpture of a star that would melt after a day but she never had the heart to tell him. Gajeel did something similar with jewelry but it was made out of iron and really big and bulky so they were all too heavy to wear for long. Similarly, Erza would give her a sword or some other weapon that was too heavy for Lucy to lift. Juvia would offer her baked goods she made herself but for awhile Lucy was always cautious to eat them, knowing how jealous Juvia was about her friendship with Gray. Thankfully that wasn’t a problem anymore, and now her gift was one she was looking forward to along with the book from Levy and perfume from Mira that she got every year. There was only one gift she truly dreaded and that was from Natsu.
Every year she hoped that he would give her something different, only to be proven wrong when he whisks her away on some dangerous job that leaves her exhausted, dirty, and bruised. The only good part about it was that she got to spend time with him, and have a little fun when she wasn’t fearing for her life. And as the years went on, she hoped that perhaps him taking her on these jobs alone meant that he would talk to her about things. Things that she knew he probably never thought about but that deep down, she dares to hope that he does.
So she thought she knew what to expect during her birthday party this year when he approached her, holding something behind his back. She took a deep breath, ready to see what job flyer he’d present her with only to find a book with a pink bow wrapped around it instead.
“What’s this?” Lucy asks, surprised and cautiously optimistic. “Is it part of a job or-”
“No it’s not a job. It’s just a journal.” Natsu says. “I couldn’t figure out what to get you for your birthday this year so I asked Gildarts for advice and he told me I should get you something that you’ve been wanting to get or something you’d like so I thought I’d get you both!”
Lucy was confused and touched at the same time. She was also relieved that for once she wouldn’t have to worry about getting hurt on her birthday! And it was a really sweet and thoughtful gift! She likes to write so he got her a journal...He really thought about it to get her something she’d enjoy! Is he starting to change?
“Thank you so much Natsu!” Lucy exclaims, beaming with happiness as she holds the gift to her heart. “I love it!”
She had no idea just how much she’d love it later.
--------------
After the party, she brought all the gifts she was able to carry back to her apartment with her and immediately unwrapped the bow on the journal to open it.
To her surprise, there was already writing in it. Natsu’s writing.
Her heart sunk. The last time he had written her something was a note telling her he was leaving for a year with Happy. And then the guild disbanded and she was all alone. He wasn’t leaving her again was he?
With her heart pounding, she scanned the page, reading the words and bracing herself for heartbreak. But instead she found the opposite.
Dear Lucy,
I hate writing and I’ve never written something like this before so I don’t know how good it’s gonna be but this is something I know you want to hear so I’m gonna try my best for you like I always do. I’m not good with words. Most of the things I say to you make you upset with me so I try to show how I feel about you with my actions instead of my words. And while I think that’s given you enough of an idea to know that I care about you, I don’t think you get how much I really do. So I guess I’ve got to be more clear and I figured since you love writing this is the best way to do it.
You’re amazing. You’re so powerful, beautiful, and kind and you shine brighter than any star or dragon’s fire. I have no idea why you still hang around an idiot like me who doesn’t know how to treat you right but I hope the reason is because you feel the same way about me that I do about you. I’ve never had feelings like this before, so I’m sorry if I’ve frustrated you but I just don’t know anything about love aside from how I feel about you. Gramps and Gildarts used to lecture me on how great relationships are and how they hoped I’d fall in love and get married and have kids someday but I never wanted that because there wasn’t anyone I wanted to do that stuff with until you came into my life.
It took me awhile to figure it out but now everything they told me about makes sense. I want to be with you Lucy, as more than just a friend. I know I don’t deserve you but I’m working hard to make you happy because that’s what you deserve. And I can tell that not knowing that has made you unhappy. So I’ve got to just be straight to the point and say it. I love you Lucy Heartfilia. I think that’s what you want to hear, so that’s what I’m giving you for your birthday.
~Natsu
Lucy’s tears of joy were dripping onto the page so she quickly closes the book to keep her tears from washing away those sweet words.
This was better than she could have ever imagined. And all she wanted was to run to Natsu and start this new chapter in their relationship together. Thankfully, knowing him, she didn’t have to go far.
With tears dripping down her cheeks, she pulls back the curtain to her bedroom to find the man she loves and his blue cat in her room. She’d never been so happy to have them break into her apartment.
“Lucy did you like the-Aw damnit, you’re crying!” Natsu exclaims, looking hurt and disappointed with himself. “I messed up again!”
“What did you expect, you took relationship advice from Gildarts!” Happy chastises. “That guy can’t hold onto a woman, what does he know-”
“No you didn’t!” Lucy reassures him. “Natsu it was perfect! I love it! I love you too!” She exclaims.
Before Natsu has a chance to process what she said, Lucy dashes across the room, tossing the journal onto her bed before throwing her arms around his neck as he catches her in his before she kisses him.
Happy’s jaw drops and Natsu’s eyes go wide for a moment, surprised by her affection before he returns the kiss, closes his eyes and moves his hands along her back to hold her closer to him as he relishes in this new feeling.
She brings her hands up to his face to run her thumbs along his cheekbones while his hands settle on her hips as they gently pull apart.
A blush forms on Lucy’s face as she realizes what exactly she’s done and is immediately embarrassed by how forward she was being.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry that probably came out of nowhere and I should have asked first-” Lucy rambles before Natsu’s chuckle pulls her gaze back to his face and when he sees the warm look in his eyes and the smirk on his lips, she instantly relaxes.
“It’s fine Lucy. I was hoping you’d kiss me. I just hope it was a good kiss, considering I’ve never done that before...” Natsu admits shyly.
“It’s okay. I’ve never kissed anyone before either.” Lucy tells him. “This is new for me too. We’ll figure it out together, just like we do for everything else.”
She rests her head on his chest and Natsu holds her close and rests his cheek on top of her head.
“Well you know a lot more about this stuff than I do. So you’ll have a lot to teach me.” Natsu admits and Lucy laughs.
“Well you gave me a very thoughtful gift, so clearly you’ve already got some idea of what to do.” Lucy says.
“You just mean so much to me.” Natsu says. “I’ve never felt this way before for anyone else and I doubt I ever will. You deserve someone who can make you happy and give you everything you want.”
“Well if everything you wrote in that letter is true, then I have no doubt that person is you.” Lucy says. “I just want one more thing.”
“What is it?” Natsu asks, pulling back to look at her. “Whatever it is I’ll give it to you.”
“Just tell me you love me. I know you wrote it but I want to hear you say it.” Lucy requests.
Natsu smiles, more than happy to fulfill that wish.
“I love you Lucy.” Natsu says and fresh tears spring from Lucy’s eyes as a result.
“I love you too Natsu.” She says before kissing him again.
The sounds of Happy sniffling pull them out of the moment.
“What’s wrong little buddy? Are you crying because you’re happy for us?” Natsu asks.
“I’m so happy for both of you!” Happy sniffles. “But I can’t believe that someone as dense as you managed to get a girlfriend before me!” He wails and the new couple laughs.
Yep. Definitely the best birthday ever. And now Lucy couldn’t wait to see what Natsu would do for her next year.

“You’re my Storm”
First of all I want to emphasize that I speak Spanish, if what you will read is translated with Google translator in case you see it as a word that does not make sense, also to say that this is my first Gruvia fanfic on Tumblr, I still don't know how to use it much this app so this one-shot may not be as good as others, I have loved the Gruvia for quite some time, but had never been on Tumblr until recently. Well without further ado I begin.
This one-shot would be set after defeating Selene and returning to Earthland ...
After the shocking news of the return of the Natsu team to Earthland, as expected there was a great celebration for his return, as for Touka she stayed in Elentir to help its inhabitants, they were again in Fairy Tail, it was a great celebration , but two magicians were missing in this beautiful and noisy party, that's right, I'm talking about the ice magician Gray and the water magician Juvia, who were on a stretcher in the infirmary, doing? Nothing more and nothing less than trying to create a Greige, this would go unnoticed by everyone else at the party if it weren't for the fact that they had three Dragon slayers with an ear 7 times sharper than human hearing.
How did we get to this? Let's go back about 6 hours.
A portal was opened by Touka for the Natsu team to return to Earthland in gratitude for saving their world, everyone appeared in the middle of the guild causing a great impact on those present, it was not long when everyone ran to hug them, but who else was expected This serious reaction from the water magician in love with Gray Fullbuster, instead it was the other way around, as soon as Gray identified the owner of his heart it was he who ran to hug her surprising the entire guild, Juvia obviously did not wait and responded to this sudden hug.
"I missed you" said the ice wizard in the Lockser's ear, something that almost caused her to faint, but she resisted and with her relieved heart replied "Juvia I also miss her power to live a lot", this comment made the Fullbuster He will blush to the point of remembering that phrase he said when they were about to defeat Aldoron.
"Ahh, I have so many things to tell you" said the Fullbuster before breaking the hug.
"Hmm ... this ... I want you ... and I to go out ... to ... talk?" He said not very convinced, okay that without a doubt was something that no one in the world expected, what kind of parallel world was this where Gray Fullbuster invited Juvia Lockser out? His classmates were about to tell him to stay and celebrate , however the sharp sword of Titania a Gruvia shipper stopped them, without a doubt it was a dream for Juvia who shyly asked "H-like a date?" and the following answered by the Fullbuster was what made the Lockser lose consciousness for about 8 seconds "Y-yes like a date."
-------------------------------------------------
The two outside the union already started a nice walk to be able to make up for the time they were not together and maybe be able to advance something in their relationship, after all the feelings of both were already clear, they could consider themselves a couple, maybe? Their talk It ranged from the searches carried out by the guild to find the Natsu team to the new rival of Juvia's love for Elentir, yes, that girl who froze Gray.
The ice wizard was about to tell him about the son they had together in Edolas when a boy with dark blue hair crashed into Juvia causing a not very cute reaction from the Fullbuster "HEY, LOOK FOOL!".
"TO WHOM DID YOU TELL IDIO… JUVIA ?!" apparently that person unknown to Gray knew Juvia, "Bora-san?" Indeed, Juvia Bora's ex-boyfriend, quickly the Fullbuster in a small attack of jealousy raised Juvia from the ground and wrapped his arm around her waist, but not before asking "Juvia, who is he?", the water magician got quite nervous, not only because her beloved Gray-sama had her hugged by the waist, but because of how to tell her who the “Ahm. T-he ... is ... aah ",
Gray raised an eyebrow in search of a clear answer if it weren't for that idiot Bora replied instead" I'm her ex-boyfriend, and you? Don't tell me you're with her "In that last comment he made a grimace of displeasure, something that undoubtedly made the ice wizard quite angry, who did not hesitate for a second to defend the only woman in his life" And if so, do you have a problem with that? ? ”,
Without a doubt she was about to hit him if it weren't for Juvia now who was hugging his arm and whispering in his ear to calm down, it would have worked if it hadn't been for the answer Bora threw“ I have no problem with that, later I feel relieved to be done with her, she was just a hindrance in my life that only attracted storms "……… .well now if Bora had officially dug her own grave, she had just insulted the person most important to Gray, the The sky had clouded over, Gray turned to see Juvia who was shedding silent tears, because that comment or done by Bora made him remember his 17 years of loneliness, he was about to run away if it weren't for Gray tightening his grip on his waist as if telling him that he would always be with her.
"How ... HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT A PERSON WHO DEDICATED TIME TO YOU?! ... NO ... HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY JUVIA !!!" no doubt he was angry, he did not think what he said, he simply wanted to make it clear to Juvia that she would never be alone. "Trust me, Fullbuster, she's just a walking storm" that was Bora's last comment before falling unconscious from a well-deserved blow from Fairy Tail's Devil Slayer.
After that his walk got more and more uncomfortable, not to mention that the sky was still cloudy I would almost believe that it is night, it was not until the Fullbuster stopped his walk and without looking at the Lockser he released a few words that made all the insecurities of her beloved water magician would dissipate, without a doubt Juvia had chosen the right man this time, thanks to him she met the clear sky, had a real family and finally knew happiness and love, and although it was not intentional the magician of Ice was always with her and was always in charge of reminding her that she would never be alone again.
"Let me tell you that I'm not afraid of storms" was all he had to say for Juvia's cute little heart to further increase the infinite love she already felt for him, not a second passed when the daily routine of pouncing on he returned to normal. As expected, Juvia fell to the ground, but not because Gray didn't want to, he just said something that Juvia understood perfectly "Don't do that in public." In other words, Gray had given her permission to hug him as many times as she wanted while they weren't in public. However, Juvia did not expect that Gray would put his arm to hang her as usual, of course he would never tell her that when she did not hug him he gave her only a hint of cold.
This is how they returned to the guild with a nice clear sky, when entering the guild it was as confusing as you could imagine, Natsu and Lucy being questioned about their relationship and asking questions like "When are you planning to create Nasha?" and things like that, when both magicians crossed the guild gates they had to go through a long interrogation ... and it was at that moment that Juvia found out about the son she had with Gray.
3… 2… 1… Juvia fainted again, woke up on a stretcher in the guild's infirmary, Gray lay next to her sitting on a chair as she watched her sleep. They both looked into each other's eyes without saying a word until finally Gray spoke "You know, now if I wanted to take advantage of the confusion" Juvia understood perfectly what he meant, and in case you don't remember, Juvia mentioned something to Gray about " Take advantage of the confusion to touch her breasts ”, well now Gray had accepted his proposal.
  And now we go back to the beginning, everyone in the guild knew that Gray loved Juvia, even Elfman, "It is of men to know that Gray loves Juvia", although that was clear, they did not expect that Gray would want a first-born so soon, although they believed which was a reaction to meeting Greige.The entire guild was on the other side of the infirmary door trying to listen to such a process, it was not until the great "Titania" threatened everyone with her more than two hundred swords to leave.
Finally, blushing to her ears, Erza knocked on the door of the infirmary, suddenly she only heard a tremendous commotion and how they were looking for their clothes. Gray opened the door and Erza just whispered in his ear something that made Gray Fullbuster blush to his ears for the second time that day, she just nodded her head and closed the door.
In the end, Gray and Juvia had to leave the guild if they wanted to continue with their creation process because, according to Titania's words, "It is not a suitable place to create babies." The good thing was that Gray with all the tranquility if he could have "HIS NIGHT" with Juvia, waking up both embraced on the same bed and with their clear feelings. On the other hand, Juvia was able to scream as loud as she wanted without fear of being heard.
After the storm comes calm and even some beautiful landscapes.
Juvia was Gray's storm and thanks to her she now has a rainbow called "Storm Fullbuster Lockser" whom she loves with all her soul.

“Freed? What are you hanging out with Freed for?" Natsu remarked as he watched Lucy frantically move around her apartment, trying to find everything she was looking for. Lucy rolled her eyes.
"It's Freed and Levy-chan okay? And because I promised Natsu, what other reason are you looking for?"
"Tell them you forgot. Come back to bed," he beckoned to her. He was still lying in her bed, cocooned by the warm pink comforter, voice a little muffled by the pillows.
"I don't break my promises. You know that." Lucy ignored Natsu's unhappy whine, exclaiming in delight when she found the book she was looking for.
"You're taking a book? That means you'll take forever!"
"Natsu, I spend every single day with you. It would do us some good to spend some time apart. Why don't you go find Gray or something?"
"Who told you that nonsense?!" Natsu demanded fiercely. When Lucy tiredly turned to look at him, she found him sitting upright on the bed, looking towards her angrily. "We don't need time apart," he scoffed. "Because…" And here he looked her right in the eye. "Because it's more fun when we're together!"
Lucy flushed a bright pink. "Okay, yes it is, but Freed and Levy-chan are my friends and they are also people who I want to have fun with. So please Natsu. It's just one day," Lucy gave him a soft look. "Please?"
Natsu frowned but when he crossed his arms angrily, Lucy knew that it meant that he'd given in. Lucy walked towards him and hugged him tightly, from behind. "Thank you."
"Yeah, yeah," he grumbled before he pulled her down with him. Lucy yelped in surprise as she fell, before Natsu turned her around and kissed her softly. "I guess you can go. If you're sure." He kissed her cheek. Then the other cheek. He stopped to smile at her. Lucy smiled back in understanding, before she pushed him off of her and got up, fixing her rumpled clothes.
"Nice try." Natsu pouted at her but let her go, finally accepting defeat. Lucy grabbed her bag, ready to leave. "Bye Natsu. I'll see you later okay."
Natsu pouted harder but waved nonetheless. Lucy winked at him as she left the house, a wide grin on her face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Gajeel, I'm ready to leave," Levy was trying to say goodbye but Gajeel wasn't paying her any attention. He was too busy looking at his gears and levers.
"Gajeel." Levy tried again. Finally she couldn't take it anymore. "Gajeel!" Levy yelled, as loud as she could.
"Hmm?" He hummed distractedly. "You say something Shrimp?" He was barely glancing at her. Were his stupid machines really that much more important to him compared to her?
Levy felt irritation bubbling within her, as she clenched her fists around her bag's strap. For a moment, Levy imagined just how good it would feel to whack him on the head with her heavy, book-filled bag. But she shook her head and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "It's okay Levy. We'll just try again. You have to be patient, remember?"
"Gajeel?" Levy called out sweetly, but there was a dangerous note in her tone. This time Gajeel paid attention. He put his nuts and bolts down and slowly turned around on his stool, to look at her. "Yeah, Shrimp what is it?"
"I'm leaving," Levy told him calmly.
Gajeel froze, eyes widening. "Leaving?" He swallowed hard. "Why?"
"Why? Because I'm tired of waiting and you're not even paying attention to me. Also I'm getting late." Levy stared at him expectantly, but Gajeel was too shocked to move. With a sigh, she turned around.
"Wait!" Gajeel strangled out. Levy turned to peer at him, a tiny smile on her lips that fell immediately as she saw the panic on his face.
"Gajeel?" Levy reached out towards him but Gajeel stiffened and moved away from her.
"Don't," he whispered softly.
"Don't? Don't what?" Levy asked, her hand still hanging in the air, a hurt expression on her face.
"Don't le..." He paused to take a breath, while she stared at him in confusion. "Don't leave me," he gritted out.
"Leave you?" Levy scrunched up her face. "I'm not leaving you. What made you get that idea?"
His jaw dropped. "You just said you were leaving!" He yelled while pointing at her.
"Yeah, because I have plans with Lu-chan and Freed. I told you, remember?"
Gajeel paused for a moment, his complexion returning to normal. He laughed a little, "Huh guess you did. My bad."
Levy shook her head in annoyance but then she softened. Levy walked towards him and took his hands in hers. "I could never leave you." Levy promised, staring deep into Gajeel's eyes. "You're stuck with me."
She smiled at him tenderly, making Gajeel's cheeks tint pink. "Gihihi. That's right," he smirked a little. Levy grinned back at him brightly and pressed her forehead to his. "See you later Gajeel."
"Bye," he muttered, his smirk turning into a tiny smile. She reached up to hug him tightly before darting off. "Remember to make dinner okay?" Levy called back as she closed the door.
"Yeah, yeah," he dismissed her, turning back to his things. Then he stopped and looked up. "Did she say she was hanging out with Bunny Girl and Ponytail?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Are you sure you're alright Laxus? I don't have to go." Freed fretted over the blond man.
"Freed," Laxus interrupted before Freed could work himself up further. "I'm fine. I just said I'll be bored. Relax, I'll go see the old man or bug Bix for a bit. It's fine. You go have fun."
"Lucy and Levy only asked because they realized I'd read the book. They'll be fine without me," Freed said again, watching Laxus' face very carefully to see if he was hiding how he truly felt.
Laxus only gave him a flat look. "I really don't want you doing that. Seriously. The old man's been wanting me to go visit him anyways. Might as well now, otherwise I won't feel like it."
Freed's expression immediately turned disapproving. "Laxus, your grandfather loves you very much and he's always so kind and helpful to us. The least you can do is go visit him."
"That's what Erza's for," Laxus countered.
"He wants to see the both of you. You know that."
Laxus sighed. "Okay, okay. I said I'd go see him, didn't I?" Freed kept frowning. Laxus sighed harder. "Fine. I'll go see him today and then again with you. Now are we good?"
Freed gave him a bright smile.
"Get outta here," Laxus waved him off. Freed slowly slid off his chair. "At least let me make you breakfast first!"
"Freed I can handle it. I'm not a child." Freed must have still looked worried because Laxus motioned him to come towards him. Once he'd gotten close enough, Laxus brushed away a few strands of hair away and cupped his face. Quickly, he leant upwards and placed a kiss on his forehead.
"I'll be fine," Laxus whispered. "Don't worry."
Freed smiled. "I'll always worry," before softly kissing him on the lips this time. When he pulled away, Laxus whined.
"Laxus?"
"Just go," Laxus shook his head. Freed smiled shyly before kissing Laxus again, catching him by surprise. "I'll be home soon."
Laxus looked up at him, eyes dark and serious. "You'd better. Now go." With one last look behind him, Freed slipped out the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucy, Levy and Freed all met up outside the cafe at the same time. Levy was panting, having run most of the way, though Lucy and Freed didn't look much better. Collectively they all glanced towards the time, which was far past when they had initially agreed to meet.
"Oh thank goodness. I thought I was super late," Lucy laughed, breaking the silence. The other two murmured a similar sentiment. "Shall we head inside?" Freed suggested.
Once they'd gotten settled down at a table and ordered drinks and food, Lucy voiced the question on her mind. "Why were the two of you so late?"
"I, uh...that is..." Levy stammered around for a bit before turning the question back around to Lucy. "You were late too Lu-chan!"
"Natsu wouldn't let me leave," Lucy shrugged. She raised an eyebrow at Levy who sighed. "I just wanted to say bye to Gajeel first but you know what he's like. Never paying enough attention."
"Please Levy-chan, he just gets distracted. You know you're his number one priority." Levy smiled, appearing to get lost in some sort of memory. Lucy waved a hand in front of her face, snapping Levy out of it.
"Levy-chan?" Lucy asked, a little concerned. "No, you're absolutely right," Levy agreed happily, a large smile on her face.
They both turned towards Freed who flushed. He tried to get out of answering but neither Lucy nor Levy would allow him to do so. Before long Freed gave in "I was worried about Laxus."
Lucy and Levy exchanged glances. "Worried?" Levy began. "For Laxus?" Lucy stressed.
"What's wrong? Is he okay? Did he get hurt?" They were beginning to get a little worried.
"Freed, if you need to reschedule," Lucy began slowly, Levy nodding emphatically beside her.
Freed quickly shook his head. "No, no, he's fine. I just…" he trailed off.
"Let's just talk about the book." He pulled the book out of his bag and flashed it in their faces to distract them. It worked, Levy's eyes immediately brightened as she launched into a discussion of her favourite parts. Lucy kept glancing at Freed but before long she too was far more invested in the discussion than in prying answers out of Freed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Laxus stared at his fridge. How was it possible that it was filled with food yet he couldn't find a single thing he wanted to eat? He'd been the one to push Freed to go and have fun with Levy and Lucy too.
"Eggs maybe?" He mused out loud to himself. "Those are supposed to be easy to make right? Freed usually had them done in minutes. He took the carton out, leaving it on the shelf while he set the pan on the stove to heat up. He took out a bowl and tried to crack the egg open. Try being the operative word there.
The egg became completely smashed, little pieces of shell mixing in with the yolk. He set that one aside to try again. This time the egg cracked right and fell onto the floor. Laxus scowled, angrily turning off the stove.
"This is all Natsu's fault," he decided, giving up on cooking for himself. "The idiot knows how to cook. The least he can do is come over and help. Besides, the old man will just yell at me if I show up expecting food."
With that, Laxus grabbed the phone fully intent on forcing Natsu to come over and make him something. Not to mention, knowing his grandfather, instead of eating food they'd both just get drunk instead. Laxus had heard enough lectures from Freed about day-time drinking, and he wasn't interested in hearing any more.
Natsu picked up on the first ring. Laxus heard a yawn before he bothered to say hello.
"Get over here."
"Huh? Who?" Natsu asked, sounding confused.
"It's Laxus. Now get over here."
"Laxus? You want me to come over to your place? Really? Why? I mean you normally have to threaten me to stay away. Are you feeling alright?"
Laxus felt his eye twitch listening to Natsu ramble on. "Just get over here, got it?" He snapped before cutting the line. "The idiot had better show up quick," he growled to himself as he began to clean the mess he'd made. Laxus had just finished when the doorbell rang.
Laxus swung the door open, already beginning to speak. "Natsu, you'd better…" Laxus cut himself off. It wasn't Natsu at the door.
Gajeel stood there panting, hair a disheveled mess. Laxus stared at him. "What the hell? Did something run you over?"
Gajeel glared and angrily pointed at him. Laxus was in no mood to hear one of Gajeel's rants though, so before he could get started, Laxus tried to push the door close.
"Hey, wait!" Gajeel protested, wedging himself into the doorframe.
"I don't know what you want and I don't care."
"Can I at least come inside?"
"No." Laxus tried to push the door closed harder.
"Laxus? Gajeel? What're you two doing?" A voice asked. Laxus looked up to see Natsu staring at them, his expression showing that he was completely weirded out.
He opened the door, causing Gajeel to fall to the ground. Ignoring his protests, Laxus gestured for them to both come inside. Gajeel stood up glaring and stomped in. Natsu followed.
"What did you call me for? I was sleeping you know," Natsu complained.
"I don't care," Laxus pointed towards the kitchen. "Go on."
Natsu's eyes lit up. "You invited me here to eat?" He began to run towards the fridge.
"Not so fast," Laxus grabbed the back of his collar. "You have to make me food first. Then maybe I'll let you eat some of it."
"Y'know I'm not your personal chef right?" Natsu frowned.
"Yeah well, your girlfriend stole my boyfriend, so I don't care. Now make me food."
Gajeel cleared his throat angrily. Laxus shot him a dark look and he fell silent with a scowl. He turned back to Natsu. "Fine, I'll cook for you but I definitely get to eat some of it, okay?"
Laxus waved his hand and Natsu got to work. Laxus turned towards his other, unwanted guest.
"Now why are you here Gajeel?"
"You better make me some of that food too," Gajeel grumbled at Natsu. Laxus crossed his arms. "I don't recall inviting you."
"Well I'm here now aren't I?"
"You can leave," Natsu suggested.
"I don't want to leave," Gajeel shot back.
Before they could delve into a petty argument, Laxus intervened. "What did you show up here for?"
"Why is Book Boy hanging out with Shrimp?"
"Who?" Laxus asked blankly, not recognizing either name.
Gajeel made a frustrated noise, while flailing his arms. "I'm talking about Freed. Why is he with Levy?"
"What's your problem with it? Lucy's there too!" Natsu butted in. Laxus gestured towards Natsu, indicating that he had a point.
Gajeel shuddered. "Last time Shrimp and Ponytail hung out, they started talking in some dead language no one cares bout 'cept for them. Levy wouldn't stop at all, and refused to talk to me normally. Which fine I could deal with that for a bit, but no. She expects me to understand her when she does that."
"So?" Natsu asked, uncomprehendingly.
"So I don't understand her idiot! Then she just gets mad at me!"
"That's got nothing to do with Freed so it isn't my problem," Laxus shrugged, genuinely not caring. "Is breakfast ready? I have to go see the old man too."
"Almost and are you going to go see Gramps? Can I come?" Natsu asked excitedly.
"No."
"Aw come on! Why not?" Natsu whined.
"Listen to me," Gajeel roared furiously.
"Lucy is there too and old languages aren't her thing. Relax dude," Natsu shrugged and went back to bugging Laxus to let him go with him to see Makarov.
Gajeel felt his mouth open and close a few times before he slumped into a chair. "Ah whatever. Get me some food."
"Not your cook either."
"You're already cooking!"
"Natsu. Food. Now." Laxus commanded, rubbing his temples. Their arguing was giving him a headache.
"Yeah, yeah," Natsu shoved a plate with an omelette and toast into his hands. "Here. Where's the ketchup?"
Laxus went to scour the panty while Natsu handed a similar plate to Gajeel. "Juice is in the fridge," he called back.
"Got it," Gajeel called back. When Laxus turned back, the two were seated and waiting to eat. He tossed the ketchup at Natsu who quickly applied it. "Let's eat."
"Thank you for the food," they all muttered before digging in.
"So Gajeel and I are coming with you," Natsu announced.
Laxus choked as he ate, and began to cough. "What do you mean you're coming with me?"
"To see Gramps!"
"No!" Laxus refused again.
"We don't have anything better to do," Gajeel shrugged.
"I don't care. No way!"
"Too late," Natsu grinned irritatingly. "It's already been decided." Laxus closed his eyes trying to keep himself from reacting.
"Whatever, I'm done. Do the dishes." He figured he'd make them do it, otherwise Freed would immediately get started on washing. He hated a dirty sink.
"What!" Gajeel and Natsu both began to object but Laxus cut them off. "Do the dishes and I'll let you come with me." He sighed, the things he did for Freed.
"Deal!" Natsu grinned. Gajeel rolled his eyes but turned to help anyways.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I haven't seen Gramps in forever!" Natsu chattered happily, right in Laxus' ear.
"How much farther?" Gajeel asked moodily.
Laxus turned up the volume on his phone louder, trying to drown out their voices with his music. It wasn't working.
"Which way is this anyway?" Gajeel was complaining again. "I don't remember coming this way before."
"It's Erza's shortcut. She doesn't tell everyone about it," Natsu was bragging. Gajeel muttered something about her only telling Natsu because she was beating him up. That made Laxus laugh a little.
"Why you," Natsu took up a fighting stance and was ready to pounce on Gajeel but Laxus grabbed his scarf before he could. "Don't you dare," he warned. Natsu pouted but quieted down. Laxus was about to let go, when he caught a flash of green in one of the store windows.
"Laxus?" Natsu questioned while trying to get loose. Gajeel followed his gaze and made a sound of surprise. That made Natsu even more determined to escape and see just what was so interesting.
With a fierce tug, he wrenched away from Laxus and whirled around to check what they were looking at. Immediately, a huge grin overtook his face.
"Lucy!" Natsu cried out. He started to walk closer, yelling Lucy's name. Before he could catch her attention though, Laxus and Gajeel grabbed him from behind, Gajeel putting a hand over his mouth to muffle him.
"Be quiet!" Laxus ordered, as they moved closer to the window to get a better look.
"Mmph!" Natsu growled, trying to shake himself free again.
"We're trying to keep a low profile. So shut up!" Gajeel hissed. Then he pulled away from Natsu, groaning in disgust. "Ew! Did ya have to lick me?!"
Natsu grinned smugly and turned to Laxus without answering. "Why're we keeping quiet?" He demanded to know.
"I don't want to ruin it for them with your loud mouths," Laxus shrugged to Gajeel and Natsu's outrage.
"What are they even doing here? I thought they'd be at the library."
"Lucy did leave without eating. Probably because they'd always planned to meet at the cafe," Natsu said thoughtfully.
"Freed did the same," Laxus agreed. Both looked at Gajeel, a little accusatorily. "Pay more attention," Laxus ordered.
Gajeel glared. "Don't need to hear that from you," he sneered.
Laxus clenched his fists and took a deep breath. "For Freed," he muttered to himself, over and over again, trying to calm himself down. "For Freed."
"What's for Freed?" Natsu asked obliviously. "Listen, I'm bored and I wanna see Lucy. She'd be happy to see me."
"Levy wouldn't be," Gajeel frowned. Laxus pointed at Gajeel to show his agreement.
"Then let's go. What're we sticking around for? I'm hungry!"
"You're not going to the old man's house to eat his food!" Laxus snapped at Natsu, while Gajeel shook his head in disbelief.
"Why not? Gramps loves feeding me!"
"Wow. You really never pay attention to him, now do you?" Gajeel muttered incredulously.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means," Laxus cut in, "that you have no idea what's going on in the world. I'm telling you right now, you aren't making Gramps feed you. You literally just ate at my place!"
"Guess he can't help it," Gajeel threw in snidely. "He's too brainless to get his own food."
"Why you!" That was the last straw. Natsu pounced on Gajeel angrily, determined to make him pay for what he said.
"Would you two stop it!" Laxus pulled them apart. "Stop acting like children!"
"At least I can cook!" Natsu hollered, right in Laxus' ear.
He held them tightly for a moment, then sighed. "Screw it." He let Gajeel go, to punch Natsu in the gut. Gajeel began to laugh uproariously, in the most obnoxious way possible. Laxus turned to punch Gajeel too, who ended up falling a few feet away.
"Idiots," he sighed again looking down. That was his mistake. Natsu and Gajeel working together for once both ran up and punched him simultaneously.
Laxus felt his anger skyrocket, but before he could retaliate, an annoyed voice cleared their throat.
The three boys turned to see their respective significant other staring at them in displeasure.
"And just what are you three doing?" Lucy asked, her voice deceptively calm.
"L-Lucy!" Natsu stammered, easily recognizing the look in his girlfriend's eyes. "We were just...tell them what we were doing Gajeel!"
"Yes, Gajeel, go ahead. Tell us why you three are here while you're at it, as well," Levy frowned, her arms crossed over her chest.
Gajeel glared at Natsu for throwing him under the bus, before turning to look at Levy. "Good question Shrimp. I didn't even know you were here though. I mean Laxus was the one who brought us here!"
"Weren't you going to go visit Grandfather?" Freed, wonderful Freed, looked more worried than anything else.
"We were. These two idiots insisted on joining me though," Laxus shrugged.
"That was because you called me over to cook for you, because you're incapable of making eggs or anything else!" Natsu shouted immediately, making Laxus wince. He knew he should've hit Natsu harder. "I just wanted to go see Gramps since it's been so long since Erza's told us to visit."
"What?" Freed gasped. "Why didn't you say anything? I would've cooked for you before I left!"
"I was fine, Freed. Honest. Natsu doesn't know what he's talking about."
Natsu geared up to start fighting again, but Lucy silenced him with a single look. That was impressive. Laxus made a mental note to get the secret to shutting Natsu up from her later.
"That doesn't explain why you three were fighting outside," Levy cut in.
"How'd you even know we were here?" Gajeel shot back.
Lucy gestured to the giant window. "Also you three weren't exactly quiet."
"Sorry for ruining your day," Natsu said innocently. "I didn't want to disturb you guys at all." Laxus and Gajeel's jaws dropped, remembering how they were the ones who had kept Natsu from barging in at the first opportunity. Lucy ate it up too, smiling at Natsu sweetly, letting any lingering anger go at once.
"That is so sweet," Levy remarked, as Lucy gave Natsu a quick peck on the cheek for being so thoughtful. Laxus and Gajeel's jaws dropped further, their outrage clear.
Freed, noticing the looks on their faces bit back a laugh. "Well, we had finished discussing our book, so you didn't disturb us all that much. Why don't we all go see Grandfather together? He'll be happy to see all of us."
"It's always better for Gramps when we're all there," Levy agreed slowly, clearly side-eyeing Gajeel. He gave her a sheepish look, making her roll her eyes. She smiled back though, clearly unable to stay mad.
"Then it's settled! Let's go!" Freed smiled. They all began walking together, in a giant cluster towards Makarov's house. Levy and Lucy were walking side by side and made sure their boyfriends didn't start fighting again, by holding on to their respective boyfriend's arm. Trailing along, Laxus took a moment to look at Freed to apologize.
Freed shook his head though. "It's fine," he dismissed before Laxus could even say anything, smiling at him gently. Laxus smiled back and took one of Freed's hands in his own. Freed squeezed his hand back as they walked contentedly behind the others, their fingers laced together.
do you have any more nalu fic recs?
Sorry, not sorry - you’ve unleashed more than you could’ve guessed. ^^ Always happy to Recommend a List of Fics ~ And thank you for asking! Admittedly there’s a few Recs that aren’t Nalu - I got excited to share my favs. ;)
A Girl Worth Fighting For: Natsu navigates unspeakable horrors to win Lucy’s love or Natsu goes shopping, looking for the perfect white day gift.
A Lesson: Natsu and Lucy can’t keep themselves from expressing their passions - and the results are bed breaking. Short but smutty - smexy in fact. ;P
A Solidly Constructed Kiss: Erza strong-arms Lucy and Natsu into working the Kissing Booth to raise funds for a school trip. Lucy’s never been kissed and Natsu acts like he’s never entertained even the idea of kissing another person. Things naturally come to a head when Lucy and Natsu are given the task to build the actual booth; will they fight over construction or build themselves some kind of relationship?
Fairy Tail Week: A collection of drabbles from tumblr prompts to celebrate Fairy Tail. Fairy, Ladies, Lads, Magic, Guild, Ultimate Team, Stronger, Mashima, Tail. Only rated teen to err on the side of caution, family friendly content featuring most of the Fairy Tail Guild!
Feathers and Scales: Angel/Demon AU. Devils are more than they seem and Angels no less. Pitted against each other in a never-ending battle for souls, a single Angel and Devil trade mercies and fall in love. Warning: major character death(s).
Full Moon Secret: Natsu had wanted to tell Lucy his secrets, to share his family history with the fey…it had just never been the right time. Tonight the truth was going to be revealed, one way or another.
Okay, I could just keep hyping all of my own fics individually - but I won’t - other than to just put in a link to ALL OF THEM. ;) Fair warning, I have a few other fandoms works in all the Fairy Tail stories - from Brooklyn 99 to The Flash, Snow White with the Red Hair, RWBY, Blue Exorcist, Teen Titans and some Hakuouki. Yes, I’m a shameless self-promoter. Speaking of that - one more I need to rec!  Natsu’s Stars in Lucy’s Sky. I swear Imma finish this.
I also have more than a few favourite authors who write for Fairy Tail (and other fandoms) ~ some have not contributed lately to Fairy Tail or chosen to concentrate on other fandoms - but I like them and their excellent writing.
ObsessedwithNalu: One of my first fandom friends and pretty much any of her FT stories is gold. @obsessedwithnalu
Christmas Treats: Admittedly a gift to me and very cherished for that fact - and - it’s frigging awesome. Lucy does a little holiday baking at home before Fairy Tail’s Christmas party. Natsu, as always, is there. One thing leads to another…
Thanks, Krov: When Krov decided to relax at his favorite bar after work, he never imagined that he’d be seeing some of his old guild members, especially since he thought they had died long ago. Nalu fluff.
Edo-Nalu love fest: Submissions for the Nalu love fest week of 2014. But instead of regular Nalu, these ones feature Edo-Nalu. Smut-tastic and delightfully mature.
ImpracticalDemon: Another early fandom friend who’s still writing this, that and the other thing - and she’s just GREAT. Again, a link to all her works and a few that are special to me follow. XOXOX @impracticaldemon
May the Best Man Survive: “Gray would never have in a million years thought he’d host Natsu’s bachelor party (Nalu pairing). Why is it his job to herd the bunch of rowdy mages from bar to bar, ending up at the guild where the real surprise party is? Oh yeah, the idiot had asked him to be the best man at his wedding. Hijinks, chaos and hilarity ensue.” ^^ A prompt supplied by me and I’m smirking so wide because the fic Imp came up with delivered more awesomeness than I could have hoped for!
A Star At His Side: “Accidentally Fall Asleep Together” for Endragoneel on tumblr. Natsu and Lucy spend the day together at a festival in Magnolia. Natsu ends up watching more than just the stars when the festival is over…
Christmas Gifts: When Erza walks Wendy home from the Guild’s Christmas Party, Wendy realizes how alone her friend and mentor is feeling. She sets out to recruit Lucy, Natsu and the rest to break Jellal out of prison for just one night, as a Christmas gift for Erza. Meanwhile, Natsu has accidentally burned some of Lucy’s writing. Will she forgive him?
Dark Shining Light: One of the best and most welcoming writers I have ever interacted with! I’m still gobsmacked she’s a friend! She’s a legend and I don’t know what else I could add to any discourse about her writing - but the classics are classic for a reason, yeah? Here’s a few of my personal favourites of her works and just know there’s too many to list them all! AKA @ff-darkshininglight
Mischievous Cat: Let’s just say there have been a few incidents where Happy has come in at a bad time.
What Belongs to a Demon: Everyone knew she belonged to the great demon lord and she would prove that she deserved to stand by his side.
The Truth Revealing Cards: Lucy should have known if there was a card that would reveal her secrets, Natsu would want it.
Eliz1369: Got introduced to her for her Hakuoki fics but she’d dipped her toes into FT as well ~ and this is a great fic. ^^ @eliz1369
The Light of Fairy Tail: The members of Fairy Tail may be their own brand of crazy, but their hearts are always in the right place.
rougescribe: Shame on me for not reading more of this author’s works! @rougescribe
Fire Sprite No 5: For him, Heaven wasn’t a place or a single moment in time. It was a feeling built on memories upon memories, past and present and a hope for future ones all tied down together. All sharing one common denominator: Her. Nalu. Tumblr Valentine’s Event.
Fallen Ark Angel: Admittedly I only have interacted from afar with this writer. I mainly read Nalu fics but I love her take on Mira and Laxus and her next gen offspring characters. She’s got a lot to offer and it’s all superb. @fallen029
Loving Satan: Loving Satan is never easy. But when she loves you back, its twice as bad.
Madartiste: Another one-sided love affair with someone else’s writing. And her stories are all wonderful and prolly appear on hundreds of Fic Rec Lists - but here’s one of my Favs! @madartiste
Hoarding: Getting interrupted gets old fast.
UranoMetria: I added her to my stable of fav authors 05-03-2014. Wow. Eons ago and even if I’m not sure she’s still active in the fandom, I salute her. Kudos.
The Goddess Gate: With six years of partnership, Natsu and Lucy are torn apart by a mysterious visit from a secret magic council. Lucy is kidnapped and her memories suppressed. She fights her way back home to regain her life - with a startling secret revealed as she begins to remember. The lives of all Earthland hang in the balance. **Okay, this is a wicked old fic - but amazingly written and fuelled my own desires for writing. Last updated in 2018 but who knows? Some current attention may slay any demons on her back in regards to writing - and even if not - the hours of enjoyment reading this is worth giving a comment just to say, ‘thank you for writing.‘
Wild Rhov: Do I even need to say anything about this author? Famous, famous, famous. Excellent. Writes a lot of pairings and fleshes every relationship into something REAL. I Can’t Even. @wildrhov
Beastly Possession: Something is murdering people in Magnolia. When Lucy is attacked, Natsu goes on a rampage to find the culprit, and everyone in Fairy Tail wants revenge. But could this bloodthirsty attacker be someone they know? Warning: High octane nightmare fuel! Do not read while eating, and beware of red eyes in the dark!
Shell1331: Introduced via Imp. This writer is in a few fandoms and is worth reading. @shell-senji
Juicy: Impulsivity and poorly chosen words get Natsu into more trouble than he’d expected, which is saying something for him.
AbsentAngel: Everyone should know this writer. Been stalking her since 2014 so that says something. Tho, it’s prolly just that I’m creepy. ;) My suggested fic here is being re-written/has been? into something original and worth being purchased when it becomes available and re-read over and over. No, I am not being paid to shill but I am open to having senpai notice me. @absent-angel
To the Flame: She stares, transfixed, as the blood runs down his fingers and begins to pool in his palm. He holds his hand up to her lips in offering, and she tears her eyes away from the blood to study his face. He is smiling softly. “Go on Luce, I didn’t cut them for nothing.” [Vamp AU]
HawkofNavarre: Loved for awesome and delightful Gruvia content. Looks like there’s a tumblr but I can’t manage to link it. :(
You Stole the Rain: He just wanted to be friends; fine, she just needed to change his mind. Gray x Juvia
Ricardian Scholar Clark-Weasley: Not sure I spelled that right even after checking three times! I usually short hand that to RS-CW in my head. And she’s prolific - has a tonne of fandoms and is a tower of talent. Is anyone reading all my fangirl gushing? 'Cause she follows one of my fics and comments (sorry I haven’t updated that fic in a while) and it’s a source of happiness that someone who writes so well happens to enjoy some of my content. Okay, bragging over - back to the Recs!
Tales of Fairies: A collection of oneshots exploring different friendships, ideas, sad themes, comical scenarios, and lots and lots of pairings…but mainly Nalu.
snogfairy: Another giant in the FT fandom. Impressive talent. @lineffability
naughty nalus: smutty nalu oneshots B) ***Mature content!***
Rivendell101: Another giant in FT and other fandoms. This author would be considered required reading if I ran a fandom course in a University setting. Just sayin’ @rivendell101
Crave: /krāv/ Verb. To feel a powerful desire for (something). They crave each other. And satiation doesn’t come easily. He growls against her again. “Beg for it,” he demands, lips ghosting against her.
Lakerae aka @hidetheremote : Did you think I’d forgotten you? Ha! Gotcha good! You’re an inspiration to me because you’re working so hard to publish your children’s books. Kudos to you li'l sis! You’re busy but still make it a point to talk to me and I love you for that and everything.
The Gift of the Magi: A Gajevy Twist: A retelling of the classic Christmas story “The Gift of the Magi,” with your favorite Fairy Tail couple Gajeel and Levy! It’s Christmas time and Gajeel and Levy exchange gifts. They both are surprised what they receive and learn a lesson of the true meaning of Christmas.
I could add more and more as I search my saved favs on FF.net ~ and I’m sorry to not include all of them - but this is crazy long as it is. If you read and like any of the recommended fics, please be sure to let the author know. To the authors of these and all fanfics, Thanks for everything.
Day 2: Alluring Fairy Tail World Pairing: Gray Fullbuster, Juvia Lockser Series: Fairy Tail Rating: M for sensitive language and content
It was a long road ahead and Gray’s beaten body couldn’t wait to jump into his bed for a much deserving rest. A day or two would do.
The ice-make mage got tired of listening to flame-brain’s whining two towns ago. Flame brain had the audacity to complain when he was the reason of the three day delay. Okay, okay maybe not just him. There was Erza and Gray to blame too. Lucy was crying all the way down to Magnolia. Something about the reward cut and her apartment rent. Gray was just thankful Natsu shut his mouth up before he fed him Erza’s luggage, wagon included, to keep him quiet. That would make them move faster.
Team Natsu arrived at the foot of Magnolia. Gray sighed in contentment. Finally, some good news. Gray couldn’t wait to reach his apartment.
 “Oi! Isn’t this Juvia?”
 Gray’s heart jumped a little hearing the name – her name. He immediately searched for her vibrant blue hair in the crowd, only to find a cherry one standing next to a newsstand, holding what appeared to be a magazine in his hand. Gray scoffed inwardly. Since when did that flame brain start reading or even become interested? Then, he suddenly remembered something. Gray took a second look at that little magazine flame-brain was holding. To Gray’s horror, Sorcerer’s Weekly’s latest issue was now all over Magnolia. The vibrant blue hair he was searching for was on that issue.
 “What? Let me see.”
 Erza walked up to the newsstand, leaving her wagon behind. Team Natsu followed, minus Gray, and gathered around the stand to get a hold of the copy and confirm the news themselves.
 “Wow, it really is her.”
 Once Gray heard the confirmation from Lucy, he dashed to the newsstand and snatched the copy from Natsu’s hands.
 “Hey!” complained the Fire Dragon Slayer. But they fell on deaf ears.
 Gray perused the magazine, running his troubled eyes from top to bottom and then back up. His midnight eyes turned green, figuratively, as he confirmed that it was really Juvia, his Juvia, on the cover and she was too provocative – with her point finger resting on her lips, telling the viewer to keep quiet. And her legs? Her legs were wide open, leaving so little in the imagination.
 Gray’s blood boiled in anger and then something else.
 And what was up with that caption? Some like it hot? A picture of fire-eating Natsu rolled by his head, causing one eye to twitch. Juvia liked it cold because she loved a certain ice-mage, right?
 “Are you gonna buy this issue, young man?”
 Blood rushed to Gray’s head. Why would he buy a magazine when he had the real thing back at the guild? But Gray composed himself and played it cool.
 “No, thanks.” He returned the magazine on the stack and rejoined his group.
 “What kind of magazine objectifies women like that?” complained Gray.
 Which earned a raise of a brow from ‘some-like-it-hot’ Natsu.
 “You didn’t say that with Mira-chan’s cover last week.” reminded Natsu.
 Gray froze at the sudden guilt that hit him. He had no qualms staring at Mirajane in a green bathing suit enjoying the beach. So, why was he acting like he was on a higher moral ground? Gray had to think of some excuse and quick before Natsu called him out of his bullshit.
 “T-that’s d-different!”
 “Huh?” Natsu walked past him, oblivious of the fact that his question turned the ice-mage make tomato red. “But I don’t see any difference.” Said Natsu, which he meant finding no difference in Mira and Juvia’s pose in their respective magazine covers.
 Lucy the Celestial mage, feeling a little playful, chimed in. “Why are they different, Gray?” She didn’t stay behind to know.
 “I-i-it’s just different, alright!”
 Lucy shook her head. “How many years now and he is still denying it. Poor Juvia.” said Lucy to herself, chuckling.
 When his team was in a good distance, Gray ran back to the newsstand. He collected all the jewels he received from the job and handed them all to the old woman owner. Then, he grabbed all the copies of Sorcerer Weekly and left the owner dumbfounded.
 Gray walked around Magnolia hogging all copies of Juvia’s Sorcerer Weekly issue: some peeking out of his cross-body bag, while the rest he carried. He smiled at himself, proud of coming up with the best idea – by buying all the copies of Sorcerer Weekly, no one would see her Juvia in such daring pose. Gray felt triumphant.
 Until he passed by another newsstand which actually hanged a number of magazines for display. Gray checked inside his pocket and came up empty.
 Now what should he do?
 …
 Gray dropped on his bed like a hot potato, sprawled over the mattress like a spread eagle. Damn, he was exhausted. He was tired running around Magnolia all afternoon to do random jobs and earn jewels to buy all of Sorcerer Weekly’s Juvia Lockser issue. Now he had a hundred of those issue stacked beside his bed.
 He failed to realize that Sorcerer Weekly wasn’t sold in Magnolia alone. (But we will give it to Gray for trying.)
 He raised the well-wrapped gift he found earlier at his coffee table and inspected it. The ribbon was blue and neatly placed in the middle. He recognized the craftsmanship to be Juvia’s. She was good in that kind of stuff -making pretty things. Gray, on the other hand, could not make anything that can pass as pretty even if his life depended on it. Except when using his ice-make, that’s his wheelhouse.
 Gray ripped the white wrapper to see what was inside.
 Only to find the 101th Sorcerer Weekly issue he was about to add to his collection. But this one had a sticky note on it.
 ‘IS GRAY-SAMA PROUD OF JUVIA?’
 “Baka.” The cute handwriting pulled the corners of Gray’s mouth into soft smile. She even put a cute little heart at the end. “Of course, I’m always proud of you.” said Gray, talking to the seductively shushing Juvia on the cover. “But I’m not too happy about this position…”
 Gray’s thick brows furrowed. The more he stared at the cover the more he regretted it. He was feeling a nosebleed coming so he better just flip the page and find where the actual interview was printed. He needed to see words instead of the picture of Juvia’s leg parted... he needed to stop. But he was in his room, alone. So, it wouldn’t be so wrong if he just took a peek… no. But now one’s gonna see him if he… no. It wouldn’t be right. Still, he was a young, hot-blooded man and it’s the healthy thing to do – no, no, no!
 He flipped the pages frantically, trying to fight the temptation to linger on that cover, and stopped only when a page piqued his interest. It was a half-page photo of Juvia. His eyes softened, lingering on Juvia’s photo. He knew Juvia wasn’t a vain woman. She hated getting her photo taken or talking about herself. So it surprised him that in this particularly issue, Juvia indulged the readers.
 Juvia’s photo came out well – perfect even – but it was nothing compared to the real thing. It would do, for now. Looking at the colored portrait, Gray allowed himself to admit that he missed Juvia. That woman got under his skin and now she became a permanent fixture in Gray’s life, even to the point that sometimes he’d feel a sudden sense of emptiness when he was away from her for too long.
 Gray’s dark longing eyes were not the only ones that traced Juvia’s features. His finger followed his gaze: from the crinkle of her blue eyes, pink-powdered cheeks down to her disarming smile.
 Nothing was more alluring than a woman’s beautiful smile.
 Gray heard that somewhere and he couldn’t agree more. Of all of Juvia’s sexy features: her breasts, her waist, her legs, the sexiest curve on Juvia’s body was her smile.
 Gray never told a soul about it but that smile, that curve of her lips that was full of love when she talked about him, when she said his name, that smile that made his stomach flutter. It was the last thing he thought about at night and the first thing he saw in his mind in the morning.
 Gray turned to the next page and read the words written on it. Just as he expected, instead of sharing about herself, Juvia talked about Gray the whole time. He let out a sigh of satisfaction. He cushioned one arm behind his head while the other held the magazine as he read, all smiles and all satisfied.
 He didn’t have to worry anymore. Those lowly bastards may see Juvia in that provocative position but the world would know, when they read the actual article, that Juvia Lockser belonged to him – Gray Fullbuster. She was his.
 They could look but only Gray was allowed to touch.
 “That’s my Juvia.” He smiled to himself; that full grin grew wider and wider as he read all the nice things Juvia could say about him.
...
Writer’s Corner: So what’s up? We are on Day 2 of Gruvia Week. FT World isn’t really my element but I hope you guys enjoy this little drabble I made for GW.
Also, you guys know which cover I was referring to, right? I’m sure Gray appreciated that and did not appreciate everyone looking at that. lol.
Hey, first I ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤 YOU! Second, if all of the famous FT couples got sucked into a fairy tale book, what stories do you think they’d be in? (I’ve seen many a fic with different ideas.)
hmmm... famous? I'll assume you mean the Big Four + fraxus, yes?
this is a very interesting one. it could mean "what story fits their plot best" or "which characters are they the most like" or even "which traditional fairy tales do you think they'd like the most" - all of which are wonderful questions, glorious-san!
i think the way i shall answer this... hmm. I'm  answering this as "if you were rewriting a fairy tale with these ships as the characters, what would you write?"
i do apologise for this, though, because most of my knowledge of fairy tales comes from general knowledge and disney films
well, for nalu, I'd do cinderella. lucy can relate rather a lot to cinders, I'd imagine - lost her mother young, never had a particularly good relationship with her father, dreams of love and freedom she couldn't have (she can now, of course, but not originally). lucy is beautiful, blonde, whose good looks are subtle but certainly overwhelmingly stunning. natsu is charming, handsome - maybe not the most romantic or rich or a good dancer, but he is certainly loyal, and that's what prince charming is primarily known for. prince charming may not have remembered cinder's face all that well, but he roamed the whole land to look for her, never tiring until he found his princess. natsu would definitely do that for lucy - whether you ship nalu or not, it's true that he is truly devoted to her, and would run all over fiore with a glass slipper to find her. and lucy would definitely be covered in cinders by the end of the tale - and that's what cinderella was named for, after all! 😉
gruvia is a harder one. beauty and the beast comes to mind, although perhaps a role-reversal would be more accurate. gray is handsome, this is true, and when he first met juvia - well, she wasnt exactly the kindest. they were enemies, but like the beast, juvia fell for gray almost instantaneously. she changed herself for him, so he would love her - she stopped harming his friends, she joined the light, she wasnt so full of old traumas and misery. she is obsessive, like the beast, and like beauty and the beast, their relationship... wasnt always healthy, exactly. but she changed for the better, and gray fell for her. i think theyd fit the role rather well - not to mention, bickslow would have a great time making the crockery sing.
gajevy also reminds me of beauty and the beast - levy is clever and beautiful and gajeel... well, isn't - but I've already used that, so I'm thinking something else instead. i could maybe say disney's rapunzel, because tangled is a banging film and gajeel is a little like flynn ryder. we could have them be kristoff and anna, from frozen, or maybe westley and buttercup from the princess bride. frankly, a lot of fairy tales fit their dynamic - elegant young lady falls for dastardly-villain-turned-hero. i want to think of princess and the frog - almost there is a bop - although im going to settle on mulan. mulan is a badass warrior, beautiful, clumsy and clever. she's ambitious, cunning, works hard and fights harder. at first, shang dislikes mulan, similar to the way gajeel dislikes levy. however, during the story, levy makes gajeel sip Respect Women Juice, and gajeel continued to chug it for breakfast for the rest of his life. gajeel loves and fears his badass, cute-ass wife - something i refer to as The Moominpappa Complex - and levy is kinda gender-nonconforming too!
jerza reminds me of the film enchanted - have you seen it? it's very good! - because both of them canonically have feelings for eachother, but both reject those feelings and tell themselves they don't deserve the other. also erza is like snow white because she lives with several funny little men (except we call them the fairy tail guild)
fraxus is .... uh, princess and the frog? laxus is cocky, a little smug, kinda selfish, but hard-working, no-nonsense freed helps him realise the errorof his ways, and teaches him to be less arrogant, less high-and-mighty, and to value his friends. also i REALLY wanna see laxus as a frog and bickslow as a crocodile with a trumpet.
I'm sorry this took so long but i hope the wait was worth it!! its a wonderful question that so many fantastic ideas can come from, so many fics can be prompted by and so many people would answer differently!! are there more ships you'd like me to do it for? perhaps you'd like me to do ships as different ancient myths, or something similar? itd be my pleasure!!!
and finally, glorious-san, i ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤 you too! 💕💕💕
have a lovely day!
This is our entry for the Fairy Tail Reverse Bang, which was a really fun event hosted by @ftguildevents.
We were lucky enough to be paired with @x-thekid who is the wonderful artist behind this fan art. You can see her post here. Please take a moment to let her know how much you liked her art!
A few notes:
This story touches upon three in-game quests - Isosceles or Love Triangle (Juvia Character Story), Monster Outbreak from the Very Difficult Requests Set DLC, and The Search for the Supreme Scent (Ichiya Character Story).
This AU has elements of Fairy Tail canon, game canon, as well as game elements we have attempted to incorporate into the story. An example of this is duels, which is an in-game mechanism and not at all as dramatic as Gray might make them sound. ;)
In the game all the playable characters are always at Fairy Tail, this includes Jellal, Ichiya, Kagura, Sting, Rogue, Lyon and Chelia.
We had a lot of fun working on this story and we hope you enjoy it! It is four chapters long and we will post a chapter daily until it is done.
Chapter 1
Natsu entered the newly restored Fairy Tail Guild in his usual manner, kicking the door open and announcing his presence.
“I’m back!”
Only a few people looked up from what they were doing, accustomed as they were to his loud entrances.
“Morning Natsu,” Lucy greeted from her spot at their team table.
“Oh, hey Lucy,” Natsu walked over to the table, plopping down across from her while Happy went off searching for the other Exceeds.
“Are you taking a job with the slayers today, or are we going on a team job?” Lucy asked, and from the look on her face, he could tell which answer she was hoping for.
“No rent money again?” he asked with a knowing smile.
“I’ve been going on a few requests with Levy and the others, but the jobs they take don’t tend to pay as much,” she explained quickly. “Although,” she teased, “there’s definitely a lot less destruction.”
Natsu chuckled. He certainly couldn’t say the same of the jobs he’d been going on. He was bad enough on his own, but adding Sting and Gajeel to the equation, it soon grew beyond anything he could have imagined.
“Sorry, Sting and Rogue should be here any minute.”
“Oh well, I’m sure I’ll figure something out,” Lucy began, but her voice was drowned out somewhat unexpectedly.
“For the last time. NO,” Gray’s yells cut through all conversations, and everyone turned to see what was happening. “I don’t want to go on another job with you!”
Gray stood by the request board, holding a flyer in his hand. His mouth was set in a hard line, but his fingers moved ever closer to the hem of his shirt, which Natsu knew meant he was anxious. Juvia stood next to him, leaving barely any space between them, as she usually did. Her eyes filled with tears at Gray’s tone, her gaze imploring him to change his mind, but it seemed for once the ice mage was determined not to back down.
Natsu heard the murmurs start, and given the things that were being said, he hoped Gray wasn’t able to.
“But Gray-sama, we make a perfect team,” Juvia pleaded, still determined to get her way, “Our magics are compatible, and Juvia can protect you better than anyone.”
“I don’t need protecting,” Gray scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. “What I need is a partner who can keep their head on the job, and not on me.”
“Juvia can do that!” Juvia exclaimed, utterly oblivious to the rebuke. Her tears disappeared, and in her excitement, she grabbed on to Gray’s arm.
Gray shook himself free from her grasp and took a step back. “I said, NO,” he repeated firmly.
The guild’s murmurs only grew louder and more disapproving of Gray as Juvia once again began to cry, running off towards one of the rear exits that led to the pool. Many heads turned to follow her, some even sparing sympathetic looks, but no one offered to check on her, and after a few awkward seconds, Gajeel sighed and stepped up to the task. Natsu couldn’t help but feel bad for his rival, although his mind was swimming from what he’d just seen. Gray, however, seemed to have had enough. One second he was there, the next he was gone, and all that could be heard was the sound of the heavy guild doors slamming shut.
Natsu was as shocked as everyone else. Gray had always had a temper. He knew that better than anyone, but it was unlike him to lash out at any of the girls.
“What was that about?” he asked Lucy, who, like Mira, usually knew just about everything that went on in the guild.
Lucy peered at the guild doors thoughtfully and shrugged, “I guess she finally pushed too hard.”
“I thought he liked going on jobs with her,” Natsu commented, his brows furrowing in confusion when Lucy began to laugh.
“You really have been gone a lot, haven’t you?”
“What do you mean?” he frowned, not liking that there was something about Gray he didn’t know.
“All I know is last week he practically begged me to go on a job with the two of them,” Lucy confided, “I thought Juvia was going to find a way to stab me with her eyes. It was so awkward.”
She glanced around the guild to make sure no one was paying any attention to them before revealing, “He looked miserable too. And the sad thing was when I asked him why he wanted me there,” Lucy paused, looking pained by her next words, “He said he didn’t feel like his body was safe around her.”
Natsu tried to come up with some sort of retort but found he couldn’t focus on anything but the maelstrom of emotions brewing inside him at hearing those words. On the one hand, he was cautiously hopeful that maybe Gajeel had been right when he’d told him he was reading too much into Gray’s relationship with Juvia. But that was short-lived. It was soon replaced by an increasing fury at the idea of Gray feeling that way about someone in their guild- the one place where they should all feel safe. “Aren’t Cana’s drinks great?” Erza commented as she joined them at the table, holding a mug full of some strawberry smelling concoction, and saving Natsu from having to come up with a reply.
“They sure are,” Lucy agreed, seeming just as relieved to change the subject. “Just the thing before going on a job.”
His two friends continued talking about some of the other upgrades they had added to the guild while Natsu struggled to control himself. He could understand being angry on Gray’s behalf, but this rage flowing through him seemed excessive, and it disturbed him.
Gray had always been able to take care of himself. He didn’t need protection from anyone, least of all him. Natsu tried to take part in the conversation around him when Juvia happened to walk past him. The hair on the back of his neck rose, and to his great shock, he found himself growling at her, his fists balled and ready to attack. Juvia gaped at him before hurrying away from their table.
Lucy glanced at him curiously while Erza’s eyes narrowed at the display. Natsu could already tell he was in for it, and he wasn’t disappointed when he felt the sharp sting of her fist connecting with his head.
“For goodness sake, pull yourself together, Natsu! Is that what you slayers do on these jobs, act like wild animals?”
“Of course not!” he complained, rubbing his head, even as he tried to figure out what the hell had just happened.
“Did we miss something?” Sting Eucliffe asked as he promptly shoved Natsu further into the booth to make room for him and Rogue. “We saw Gray as we came in. He looks pissed.”
Natsu shrugged in reply, not wanting to get into what had happened.
“Are Gajeel and Wendy here yet?” Rogue asked, looking around the guild for the other slayers.
Natsu could tell the moment Gray reentered the guild, not just by the surge of his familiar scent but also by the whispers. When the ice mage took his seat at their table, Natsu made sure to look down at the tabletop so that Gray wouldn’t be able to see his face, just in case it betrayed his feelings.
Natsu could feel the guild’s temperature drop a few degrees as soon as Gray noticed Sting and Rogue. “Great, you two are here again.”
“Gray!” Erza scolded, “Is that any way to talk to our friends?”
Gray covered his eyes with his hand in what Natsu recognized as a futile attempt to control himself. A few moments later, he fixed his gaze on Natsu and scoffed, “So I’m guessing you’re going off with them again today?”
Natsu nodded, not trusting his words not to anger Gray further when he was so clearly holding on by a tenuous thread.
“When you talked to us about this, you said this shit was only going to be once a week,” Gray reminded him.
“I haven’t been gone that often,” Natsu protested, even though he knew it was certainly more than they had initially planned. “I don’t hear anyone else complaining.”
“Oh, believe me, we’ve all done plenty of complaining. You just haven’t been around to hear it. Lucy can’t make her rent from the jobs she can manage on her own.”
“If you’re so worried about Lucy, why don’t you go on a job with her?” Natsu challenged.
“Hey!” Lucy snapped, “Leave me out of this.”
“That’s not the point, and you know it,” Gray pinched the bridge of his nose, “Ugh, you’re giving me a headache.”
“What’s the matter, Princess?” Natsu goaded, “You miss me?”
“Don’t put words in my mouth, Flame Brain. You’re neglecting your friends- our team- to go off to play with the other dragon slayers.” To make matters worse, Sting decided to butt into the conversation. “Nah, we’re not playing! We’re, uh...pushing each other to get stronger!” he grinned, casually resting his elbow on Natsu’s shoulder. “You know, similar magic and all that.”
“Oh God,” Rogue hid his face behind his hand, looking ready to slide underneath the table.
“Did you just say I’m weak?” Gray spat furiously.
“Huh? Where did you get that from?”
“Just shut up, you’re only making things worse,” Natsu scolded his friend.
“Natsu! You can’t talk to Sabertooth’s Guild Master like that!” Erza berated, horrified by his words.
“What?! He doesn’t care!”
“That’s it!” Gray pounded his fist on the table, “I challenge you to a duel!”
If looks could kill, Sting would have dropped dead that very second.
“Yes, that’s a great idea!” Lyon exclaimed, suddenly appearing next to Gray. “If Sting wins, Natsu and Wendy can go to Sabertooth. And if you win, they can stay in Fairy Tail!” “Not this crap again!” Gray scowled at his foster brother. “Where the hell did you even come from? And why are you people here all the time?!” he complained, raising his hands in disbelief at all the non-Fairy Tail mages lounging around. “Don’t you have your own guilds?”
“I don’t see what your problem is, “ Lyon shrugged, “seems to me like it would fix everything.”
“Oh, hell no, I do not agree to that,” Natsu chimed in, “I love you guys, but I am a Fairy Tail wizard.”
“What the hell, Flame Brain, are you implying I’m going to lose to him?” Gray scoffed, looking offended, although Natsu thought he caught a glimpse of hurt in the ice mage’s expression for a moment.
“What?! I didn’t say that!” Natsu objected, but Gray refused to look at him.
“Who even said we wanted you?” Rogue pointed out, even though it was evident that Sting’s eyes were already lit up at the idea of a challenge.
“ENOUGH!” Erza shrieked, and when they continued to bicker despite her outburst, she muttered, “I’m surrounded by complete idiots!”
She watched them for another minute, looking from one wizard to the next. She grabbed Natsu and Gray by the collar, swiftly realizing they were the only two she could do anything about. Knocking their heads together, she managed to shut up Sting, Rogue, and Lyon, who could only stare at her in shock.
“They’re all insane,” Rogue muttered under his breath, but thankfully Sting was the only one to hear him.
“I’m sorry I’m late. Carla wanted to stop at the market and-,” Wendy stopped mid-sentence, marking the unnatural quiet at a table filled with people known for their loudness. She peered closer, noticing Natsu and Gray glaring at each other and sporting two large bumps on their heads. “Did I miss something?”
She moved over to their side of the table, calling on her magic to heal them, although this didn’t seem to ease their hostility in the slightest.
Thankfully the awkwardness was interrupted by Master Makarov making his way over to the stage.
“Settle down brats, I have an announcement to make,” Makarov yelled from the stage, waiting for a few minutes until he was sure he had everyone’s attention. Peering at the faces that were now intent on him, he remarked cheerfully, “Oh good, I see many of our friends are here! This concerns you too.”
“Do you know what this is about, Erza?” Lucy whispered, but Erza only shook her head.
“We have been through a lot in the last couple of years. All of you have shown courage and skill far beyond your years, and I am incredibly proud of you.” Makarov beamed.
“Now, about eight years ago, we were rudely interrupted in the middle of one of our time-honored traditions, and I, for one, think it’s time we finish what we started.”
“S-Class Trials?” Natsu and Gray chorused eagerly.
“Indeed!” Makarov confirmed with a wide grin, “When I informed the Council of my intentions, they asked that I open the testing up to the other guilds since we currently have the best setup for it. For that reason, the rules have changed a bit.”
“There will be no nominations this time. As far as I’m concerned, you have all more than proven yourselves, so anyone who feels ready is welcome to participate. Teams can have up to five members and may include wizards from different guilds. You may ask one S-Class Wizard to be part of your team if you wish. Any team that completes every exam phase successfully will see all its members promoted to S-Class. The exam will once again take place on Tenrou Island."
“That’s all I have for now. I will have more details on the test itself once I have spoken to the other Guild Masters,” Makarov peered down at Sting and Rogue with a smile. “Master Sting, am I right to assume you and Rogue will be participating?”
"Of course we are!" Sting was almost glowing with excitement, and even Rogue gave an eager nod.
“Alright then, we’ll figure out a way to keep you in the loop so you can pass the information along to the rest of your guild,” Makarov informed him, “We’ll talk about it later.”
Sting nodded in agreement, and Makarov turned his attention back to the others, “ I want you all to think about whether you will take part in the exam or not. I firmly believe you’re all capable of this, but only you can decide if you’re up to it. I’ll need your response by the end of the week, along with a list of your team members.”
With that, Makarov walked off the stage and made his way over to Cana’s bar, climbing onto a stool and ordering a drink. Everyone began to talk all at once, the guild’s noise rising to almost unbearable proportions for the dragon slayers.
Natsu couldn’t contain his excitement any more than the others; he would finally become S-Class! Something he and Gray had dreamed of doing from the moment Erza had joined their ranks so many years ago. He looked towards where Gray had been sitting just a few minutes earlier, only to find the seat empty.
The Unexpected Reward - Chapter 3
Summary: Natsu and Lucy go on a job together, but what they bring home is something neither anticipated. Forced to make a life changing decision, they have to adapt quickly, but that's never easy, especially given the circumstances. As they work together on their toughest adventure yet, they find themselves drawn to one another, in ways they never realised. Nalu/cute/fluff/multi-chapter.
Chapter 3
Natsu just couldn't look away from the breathtaking sight in front of him. He had spent probably the best part of the last half hour just staring at the gorgeous girl in front of him playing with the new tiny addition. She had been cooing and laughing at all the little noises he was making, she seemed so infatuated with him. It was so strange to think that only a few days ago, he had never really thought about having a family of his own, it's just something he always assumed would happen later on in life. But what he did know was that if he ever did want a family, Lucy would’ve been a part of it. He couldn't imagine doing this with anyone else, he wouldn't want to either. Even if they weren't together in that way right now, he could only hope that one day they might be, that maybe this would bring them even closer, if that were possible.
He hadn't realised before just how good she looked with a baby in her arms, but then again, he'd never seen her in this way, and now he didn’t want to go a day without her being like this. He noticed just how bright her eyes would shine and her brilliant smile that never faltered, every time the young infant would kick his legs or flail his arms in response to what she was doing.
They had made the right decision, everything Lucy had said before was true. Natsu had bonded with the little guy in such a short time, there was no way that he could’ve ever given him to someone else, that they didn’t know, and trusted them to do a job that he and Lucy were more than capable of doing. He understood how cruel people could be, he'd come across enough of them in his life time, especially in this line of work. He would make sure that the child would be safe and loved, so long as he remained with them. He knew they had a lot to sort through until everything became official, and he wasn’t so stupid to think it was going to be easy. However, in this moment, watching Lucy be so tender and loving towards the little boy, it filled his heart with feelings he’d never felt before and couldn't wait to see what the future would bring.
"You're not usually this quiet Natsu, is something the matter?" Lucy asked, glancing briefly at the dragon slayer before returning her attention back to the baby. She had noticed him watching her, he had this glint in his eye that gave her butterflies.
"Nah Luce, nothings wrong. Everything’s good actually!" He smirked at her. It was true, everything was good, it was great in fact! But it struck him abruptly that something seemed to be missing, and he just couldn't put his finger on it. His brows were furrowed and arms crossed over his chest, trying to muddle through his brain over what the hell it was that seemed to be amiss.
"That face you got there is telling me otherwise. Are you trying to think Natsu?" Lucy teased and poked her tongue out at him.
Not taking any notice, he was lost in his thoughts. She eyed him closely, finding it strange when he didn’t bite at her comment, watching for the subtle changes in his strained expression. He seemed to be struggling with something, but what? He had just said everything was good, so why did he look so conflicted? Her thoughts unexpectedly took a dark twist and hit her straight in the gut. Panic bubbled in her chest and she felt her lungs constrict, unable to breathe.
"You haven't changed your mind have you?!" Unable to keep the dread from her voice as it raised in octaves, her heart sank at the very thought. What would she do if he had changed his mind? He seemed so sure just an hour ago but what if he was rethinking his decision. Where would that leave her and the baby? What if he no longer wanted to do this with her? Tears started to pool again in her eyes, threatening to spill, and she'd only just gotten rid of the last ones.
Natsu eyes opened like saucers, her words snapping him out of his stupor. His face becoming one of concern, where did that come from? He could tell just by looking at her frantic expression the direction in which her thoughts were going and he didn't like it.
"N-No wait Lucy! Don't cry please! Of course I haven't changed my mind, I would never do that!" He stuttered, totally taken aback by her sudden outburst. Emotions were running high today, but then he could understand it, Lucy tended to wear her heart on her sleeve.
He moved to sit next to her on the bed to reassure her, gazing straight in to her glassy brown eyes, “Lucy, I said we were in this together and I meant it. I never go back on my word, so please don’t think things like that.” He said as he wiped the few tears that managed to escape from her blotchy cheeks. She could kick herself. Of course Natsu hadn’t changed his mind, he’d promised her and he never broke his promises. She leant her head against his shoulder, exhausted by all her turbulent feelings, his warmth bringing her comfort as he wrapped an arm around her.
They were still in the infirmary, waiting for the Master to be done telling everyone the situation before they introduced the new addition to the guild. A light seemed to suddenly switch on in Natsu's head, finally realising what was missing.
"A name!" He blurted out unexpectedly, louder than he was meant to, making Lucy and the baby jump. He looked at her apologetically as she turned to stare at him in confusion, "Luce, he doesn't have a name. I thought something didn’t seem right!" He exclaimed, punching his fist into his other hand, pleased with himself for pointing out the obvious.
"Oh yeah!” Realisation hitting her, “But what do we call him? It needs to be something good, he's going to be stuck with it for the rest of his life." Lucy chuckled, thinking of all the crazy names Natsu was bound to suggest. They sat there in silence for a few minutes, staring intently at the baby as they tried to come up with something, anything…
"Man, this is hard! It was easy naming Happy, it just suited him straight away. But naming a baby is a lot tougher, how do people do it?" Natsu wondered, feeling a little deflated about not coming up with a decent name. In fact, he hadn't thought of any, it seemed all the names he knew of had been taken by other people and he wanted this little boy to have the best name ever! If only he could think of one.
"People don't usually have babies sprung upon them Natsu. Most parents have nine months to think of a name before the baby is even born, some even longer than that if it's been planned. But we don't have nine months, we kinda skipped that part." Lucy replied, blushing at the implication of her words. Luckily Natsu hadn’t picked up on it, or at least he’d kept it to himself if he had. She felt utterly overwhelmed by naming a child, this was something she'd never had to do before. He needed a strong, unique name that would become part of his identity, she never realised how daunting naming someone could be.
"Maybe the other's could help? They might come up with some good names." She suggested, regretting it instantly, maybe that wasn’t such a good idea.
"I imagine that they'll be barging in here as soon as Gramps is done. There'll want to meet him and bombard us with a crap ton of questions." Natsu remarked, rolling his eyes at the jokes they were sure to make at his expense. Not that he really minded, he was itching to get rid of some pent up energy and a good brawl always helped with that.
And just like that, there was a knock at the door, as the rest of their team with the addition of Levy, had come to see them. As they entered the Infirmary, their eyes instantly locked on to the tiny little baby in Lucy's arms as they all quietly came over to get a closer look.
"Oh my goodness Lu, he is just the cutest!" Levy squealed with hearts in her eyes, as she stroked the little one's cheek. The other's, not wanting to disturb the baby too much, sat around the two new parents, making themselves comfortable.
"You know you're not supposed to steal other people's kids, Flame Brain!" Gray mocked, with the biggest smile on his face, giving away how glad he was to see that his team mates were doing just fine. Natsu locked eyes with him, raising an eyebrow, pretending to be offended, but he couldn't help but smile back at the raven haired mage.
"Shut it Popsicle, or I'll go tell Juvia you want one!" Natsu threatened, taking absolute pleasure in watching the colour drain from the Ice mages face.
"Master told everyone what had happened on your mission. It's so sad to hear that people can just abandon their own children like that, but he's a lucky little boy for having you two save him." Wendy said from the other bed, dampened by the idea that anyone could be so cruel.
"That's why I'm glad that Natsu and I found him when we did. He’s so innocent and vulnerable, it’s frightening just thinking about it all." Lucy uttered, as she stared at the little one. Not prepared to think any more into it, she didn't want to start crying again. She had to keep reminding herself that regardless of what could of happened, it didn’t. He was there, safely tucked into her arms, sleeping soundly. He was safe.
"It appears you seem to have everything under control there, Lucy. He seems very content in your arms, what a precious little thing." Erza spoke up, trying to be encouraging towards the now sombre celestial mage. Her face was slightly flushed as she stared at the baby, she really did have a soft spot for cute things.
"I still think he looks kinda like a fish, I bet he would taste yummy, right Natsu?!" Happy said, trying to reach over and get a good look of the baby's face. Waiting for the dragon slayer to reply.
"I don't think so Happy. But instead of eating him, we've got something better to offer." Natsu's face lit up. He patted the little Exceed on the head, hoping that he wasn't going to be too upset about making this choice without him.
Natsu looked over to Lucy who smiled at him, knowing what he was about to tell everyone. Her heart started to beat a little faster as they were about to make it official, at least to their closest friends. There would be no going back after this, and she couldn't be any happier about it all. Their friends looked at Natsu, curious to know what he was about to say. He took the baby from Lucy's arms and unwrapped him slightly, so everyone could get a better look at his cute little face.
"I'd like you all to officially meet our son, say hi to your new baby brother Happy!" Natsu gave the biggest face splitting grin towards the Exceed. And all at once, there were cheers and smiles all over. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement over the news.
"I have a little brother now? That's so cool! I'm going to be the best big brother ever! I'm gonna teach him so many things, especially how to annoy Lucy!" He grinned mischievously towards the blonde, with Natsu chuckling beside him, feeling relieved that he had taken it so well. At the sound of her name, Lucy turned and scowled at the Exceed about to make a sarcastic retort, before being enveloped by a squealing body.
"Welcome to Motherhood Lucy! It's going to be the best thing you ever do, I promise!" Levy hugged Lucy tightly as she congratulated them both. She couldn't wait to get stuck in and help them out, and her twins were going to have a little friend to play with.
"Wow! I'm so happy for you both, you're going to make great parents!" Wendy said, smiling sweetly at the startled baby.
"I'm glad to hear it. I think you've both made the right decision. Your son is going to be adored by everyone, they're all going to be thrilled by the news. He's a very lucky little boy!" Erza leant over and put her hand on Natsu's shoulder, she smiled at him, admiration clear in her eyes.
"I hope you know what you're getting yourself in to Lucy. Soon you'll be dealing with two hot heads, there's no way that kid has a chance with Natsu as his father." Gray said in jest, Lucy giggled at his words though and looked to Natsu, who was just about ready to beat Gray into the ground.
"Hey Luce, you're supposed to be on my side!" Natsu whined before snapping his head to Gray, pointing accusingly, "And you're just jealous that I got there before you!" Gray just laughed, he was truly happy for his friends.
Lucy felt those familiar butterflies in her stomach as she watched the two of them squabble over who's kid would be better. She knew Gray was joking, but knowing that this child was going to grow up with a father like Natsu, filled her heart to the brim of exploding. She'd never felt anything like it before. She wanted Natsu to know that if the little boy did end up as fiery as him, then she would be more than fine with that.
"I wouldn't want it any other way." She whispered, knowing that he would hear her as she looked up at him through her lashes. His head snapped towards her, it sent shivers down his spine with the way she was looking at him. What the hell was she trying to do to him? In front of their friends of all places! He stared at her, a half smile forming on his lips and a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Are you both ready to go and introduce the little one to the guild? Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't all burst in here yet." Levy asked as she moved to stand, a hopeful look in her eyes. The rest of them followed, taking it as their cue to leave and head out. Natsu adjusted the baby in his arms, the little one seemed to be enjoying kicking his legs out the end of the scarf he was partially wrapped in. He looked back to Lucy, who had grabbed their things, and gave her his trademark grin, before holding her hand and walking out of the room and up the stairs.
When they reached the top of the stairs, Makarov was standing there. He was smiling at them through gritted teeth, sweat rolling down his face, looking like he was trying to hold back a mob with his enlarged hands. Allowing them time to sit at a table so that they could get comfortable, before the hoard swallowed them whole.
"So kids, have you decided?" He asked as he walked closer to them, straining as the guild pushed against him.
"Yes Master, we have." Lucy then looked to everyone behind him, directing her attention to the rest of the guild, "I'd like you all to meet the newest member of the Fairy Tail family." Lucy beamed, pride spilling out as she introduced the baby to all of their friends.
And that's when things went crazy, everyone swarmed them in an instant. It felt like there was an electricity in the air from the amount of smiles, laughs and cheers, compliments and jokes flying everywhere. Lucy, for a moment allowed herself to be consumed by the energy of her friends, solidifying everything she knew and had come to love. She adored her guild, her friends, her team, they meant so much to her, but there would always be one person that held a special place in her heart. The man that had made this all possible. Natsu was the one that had not only given her everything she'd ever needed by bringing her to Fairy Tail, but he was now giving her a family of her own, one she never knew she wanted until now.
She watched as everyone congratulated them, and gave them their best wishes. The baby found his way into the arms of nearly every guild member that was desperate to hold him and fuss over what a cutie he was. Lucy found it so endearing that Natsu refused to take his eyes off the little one until he returned to his safe haven, which apparently was Lucy's chest. The crowd slowly got smaller as the day went on, wanting not to intrude on the new family too much.
She breathed a sigh of relief, now that it was just her and Natsu at the table again. Thank god it was all over, it was finally out in the open now and she was overjoyed by the kindness of her friends. But now came another obstacle, where do they go from here? Where would they live? Totally unprepared for a newborn baby, all they had for him was what had been given to them on the mission. She didn't even know what babies needed, now that the initial excitement was wearing off, the reality of it all was starting to work it's way into her brain.
Natsu had been keeping his eye on her, knowing that regardless of how pleased she was by their friends being so supportive, he could see she was tired. They hadn't had any proper rest since returning from the mission, and now with the baby to look after, he imagined sleep was going to be a bit harder to come by.
"Do you wanna head out Luce? You look exhausted." He asked, worried that she was going to fall asleep where she sat, as she rocked the little one back and forth, kissing his head tenderly.
"I'm fine Natsu, I was just thinking about stuff that's all." she said quietly, trying not to rouse the sleeping baby, who she had only just managed to get back to sleep after all the excitement.
He knew that look, that was the expression she made when she was trying to figure things out, to come up with a plan. Her hand was splayed out on the table in front of her as she leaned back on the bench, she smiled briefly before going back to her thoughts. Natsu knew something was bothering her and with a stroke of her hand, she sighed.
"I was just thinking about how unprepared we are. Where are we even going to go? My apartment or your house? Where's he going to sleep? He's run out of clean clothes now and down to the last drop of milk. I don't even know what babies need, what are the essential items for a newborn? I'm completely out of my depth here." She stopped to take in some much needed air before she pressed on, "Plus there are loads of other things we really need to discuss and they can't wait for too long, we need to prepare ourselves, we need a plan." she stopped, wanting to continue further but just not having the energy to do so, all she wanted to do right now was go home, have a bath and relax.
Natsu looked sheepishly at her, like he was up to something. It was probably some stupid prank him and Happy had thought up, "Come on Lucy, let's all head back to your place. Some fresh air might do you good." And with that, Natsu, Lucy, Happy and the baby said their good nights and left.
It had started to get dark and the air had a chill to it. Natsu had decided to take the baby from Lucy so that he could keep the little one warm as they made their way to Lucy's apartment. It had been a long couple of days that seemed to blur into one. They walked most of the way in silence, too tired to make conversation. Lucy was worried though, what she had said was a concern, there was just so much that needed to be done.
They reached the little apartment building and went inside. As Lucy walked into her main room, just about ready to collapse on the couch, she was stunned into silence.
"What's all this?" She asked, looking at all the bags and boxes laying on her floor. Had someone broken into her house? But don’t burglars usually steal things? Natsu walked up behind her, that sheepish smile back on his face. She turned to him and studied him closely, not liking the way he was looking at her, "What have you done Natsu? Why is all this in my house?"
"It's baby stuff." He said simply, like that was enough of an explanation. He walked over and placed the baby on the bed and sat down next to him, with a big shit eating grin on his face. He noticed after a few moments that she hadn't said anything, she was staring at him, brows furrowed and mouth agape. He sighed, he was going to have to spell it out for her, "Luce, it's all for the baby. Why don't you stop being weird and come take a look." He teased, enjoying her dumbstruck expression, hoping she understood now.
Happy was the first to jump in, wanting to show her what the bags and boxes contained. Lucy still unsure, walked over and sat on her couch, bringing one of the smaller bags up onto her lap that Happy had passed to her. Peering inside she took a quick inhale, pulling out the cutest little baby clothes. In awe, she dug deeper, finding more clothes along with blankets, hats, mittens and shoes. She looked through the other bags which held all sorts of sweet little baby things. Then she moved onto the boxes. Her and Happy made quick work of emptying the contents of every bag and box so that it was all laid out in front of them. There was a small crib, a changer, baby books, bottles and diapers, baby powder and medicine, and so much else, it filled her small apartment. She couldn't believe how much stuff there was, she looked up to Natsu, who had remained quiet with that same smile on his face. She knew that this was his doing somehow, who else could it have been?
"Where…? How did you…?" She couldn't get the words out, astonished by just how he’d managed to do this, and yet having absolutely no idea where it had all come from. Natsu simply shrugged his shoulders like it was no big deal.
"I wanted to surprise you. I thought this would make everything easier for us." remaining nonchalant, he continued, "I can't take all the credit, it was Levy and Metal Head’s idea. They had loads of baby stuff that they no longer needed and offered it to us. So Happy went with Lily and brought it all here. Although, I didn't realise it was gonna take over the place." He chuckled, eyes remaining locked with Lucy's as she took in what he's saying.
She stood abruptly, stumbling slightly in her haste as she tried not to tread on any of the things they had been kindly given and made her way over to Natsu. Without a single word, she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him in to her, firmly wedged between her breasts. She didn't care though, she was speechless. He had yet again shown how capable he was and she couldn't hide the happiness she felt. This was going to make things so much easier, it was one less thing to worry about. She sighed in contentment whilst Natsu held her close, relishing in her scent for as long as he could.
"Thank you so much Natsu! This is amazing!" She smiled sweetly down at him, trying to convey just how thankful she was. He snuggled further into her embrace, smiling mischievously at what he was about so say, he did enjoy winding her up and catching her off guard, he couldn’t help himself.
"Now, I can see why the little guy likes this spot so much!" He smirked against her skin, bracing himself for the inevitable 'Lucy kick'. But to his surprise it never comes. She squeaked in embarrassment and pulled away quickly, watching as Natsu and Happy snickered and high-fived each other.
"I need a bath, I stink and I still have ash in my hair and I think the little man needs one too." She picked up the baby who stirred slightly then made her way to the bathroom. She looked back to Natsu who had attempted to start clearing some of the baby stuff away with Happy. "Er, Natsu? Do you think you could give me a hand, please?" Feeling a little blush creep onto her cheeks.
"Sure Luce, I'll be back in a while Happy." He stood up, patting the cat on the head before following Lucy into the bathroom. "What do you want me to do?" He asked as she handed him a very awake, wriggling baby.
"Well, I thought that maybe for his first bath, it would be better if he got in with me. And I kinda felt nervous about doing it on my own." she blushed, not meeting the dragon slayers eyes.
She turned to the bath tub to run the hot water and unashamedly started to take off her clothes. Natsu just stood there, ogling at her, trying his hardest to look away but failing miserably.
"Hey! No peeking! I asked you in here to help me, not be a pervert!" she raised her voice a little, "Be useful and start undressing the baby."
"Aye!" Natsu yelped, snapping out of his haze and began busying himself with the little one.
Laid on the dresser, Natsu leant over and started to gently take his clothes off. He took his time, wanting to get a good look at him. Frowning, he realised that the little one did look thin, just like Porlyusica had said, he was so small and fragile looking, he never remembered the twins being this tiny. Natsu could hold him in just one hand, and he weighed next to nothing. But he was feeding well, in fact he didn't stop, it seemed like he was constantly hungry. Natsu chuckled to himself, this little guy was going to eat them out of house and home and it was only going to get worse as he grew bigger. Natsu had worried at first, that maybe he wasn't going to make it, but this kid had beaten the odds and he couldn't be prouder.
"Hey there little guy!" The little one cooed when Natsu spoke to him, reaching up to his face with his tiny hands. Natsu smiled at him, not entirely sure whether the boy wanted to grab his face or just stretch out his arms, but it didn't matter. Natsu let the baby touch his skin, amusing himself at the uncoordinated movements of his arms and legs. The infant worked his way up to the wild pink hair atop Natsu’s head and curled his little fingers around a few strands before yanking it hard.
"Ow! You gotta strong grip on you!" Natsu winced, surprised by the strength of the little ones pull. He carefully unwound his hair from the baby's grasp and replaced it with his finger, which the infant instantly put in his mouth and started sucking, “Hungry already huh?” The dragon slayer smirked.
Once the little one had finished his gummy attack, Natsu used his magic to warm his hands to pick him up, walking over to a fully submerged Lucy.
"What a lucky little guy you are, getting to have a bath with mama." He spoke softly towards the baby as he handed him to Lucy. She felt a blush slowly make its way up her chest and neck at Natsu’s choice of words. He had called her 'mama' he hadn't done that yet and she had to admit she liked the sound of it. The dragon slayer just smiled at her, very much aware of her reddening skin.
Lucy held the infant in the water so that his head was the only thing above the surface. Natsu knelt down beside the bath so that he could clearly see the baby, trying his best not to look at a very naked Lucy. They watched intently as the baby splashed the water with his jerky movements and made little noises. He was so sweet and so lively, he seemed to really like the warm water and his eyes would go wide every time he sprayed it on his own face.
"You are such a little cutie!" Lucy just couldn't hide her giggles, she was fascinated by this child.
"You got that right!" Natsu couldn't look away, how had he managed to become so smitten? They spent a little longer laughing and smiling at the little one. Before Natsu broke the silence.
"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?" His eyes trained on her face. Not wanting to push it by ogling elsewhere.
"Oh, I was just really tired earlier and allowed things to get on top of me. There's still so much we need to do, and it's a little mind-boggling." Lucy remembered as she looks to Natsu, a slight blush on her face as his eyes bore into her own.
"I know Luce, but we'll take it just one step at a time, we don't have to rush do we?" He said trying to comfort her. His fingers idly playing in the water, keeping it warm whilst they spoke. Lucy nodded at him and returned her focus to the sweet baby in front of her.
Lucy reached over, using her hand, she cupped the water and poured it gently over his head to wash out the bits of gunk still in his hair. She noticed as the remaining dirt came off of his skin, that he had a few red marks around his head under his thin coat of hair, she frowned. Where did they come from? She hadn't noticed them before.
"Look at you, acting all cool with your battle scars!" Natsu chuckled at the baby, gauging Lucy from the corner of his eye. Lucy instantly felt her worries fade. Natsu was right, those little marks were proof of what a strong boy he was.
"Have you thought any more about names, Natsu?"
"Luigi!" He cheered, then laughed out loud as her face turned into one of disgust, "Luce, I'm joking! I wouldn't call him that!" Waving his hands dismissively at the unamused blonde.
"Well, I like the name Haru, it means Spring or born in Spring and I thought it was fitting because we found him in the Spring." She felt a little embarrassed but she persisted, "Your name is a season too, it means Summer right? It works perfectly! I-I also like the way it sounds with, er, your last name..." She drifted off at the end, bothered by the crazy butterflies in her stomach. She chanced a glance at his face to see if he’d heard her, before jolting her head away trying to hide her blush.
She felt so flustered, she knew that the child didn't actually have to take the fathers name but she wanted him to. It was old fashioned, sure, and no, they weren’t married but it meant a lot to her, and she thought that Natsu would appreciate the sentiment.
Natsu was shocked, when she said about naming him, he had only thought of the first name, not the last name as well, that hadn't even crossed his mind. He reached his hand across to her cheek, clutching it softly. Swiftly bringing her face back to look at him, he smiled at her whilst she remained nervous and very flushed. His face only mere inches away from hers, he spoke.
"You mean it, Lucy?" He studied her face intently, brows furrowed, “We don’t have t-”
She brought her forehead to his, stopping him mid sentence, and rested it there, smiling back at him. Trying to portray her utmost sincerity.
"Yes, Natsu. I mean it. I want him to take your last name, you're now his daddy." She whispered, her breath mingling with his. His heart clenched and threatened to beat right out of his chest with every word that came out of her mouth.
"Then Lucy, Haru Dragneel it is!" He whispered back to her, feeling a blush dusting his own face as he stared into her beautiful chocolate brown eyes, totally entranced by them.
Had she always been this pretty? He dipped his eyes down to her lips, her plump, pink lips, what he wouldn't give just to touch them, taste them with his own. Lucy felt herself being drawn in by Natsu's gaze, she needed to pull away so she could get herself and the baby out of the bath, but she couldn't bring herself to do it, he was hypnotising. They slowly moved their faces closer, in perfect synchronicity, lips about to touch, when there was a knock on the door.
Jumping out of their skin, they both immediately separate, blushes both prevalent on their faces, as Happy casually flew in and perched down on the edge of the bath tub, totally unaware of what was just about to go down.
"You guys have been in here for ages! I'm bored waiting for you all, and he now looks all shrivelled!" Happy whined whilst pointing at the baby.
"We're sorry buddy, we were just... talking about names for the baby." Natsu stammered, still trying to hide his pink cheeks from the oblivious Exceed. "But we finally managed to come up with one. His name is Haru Dragneel, what do ya think?" Natsu grinned at the cat.
"Haru as in Spring? It's like your name Natsu! I like it!" Happy exclaimed, looking back at the child, saying the name again and again to see if it suited him.
"Well, now that's settled and another thing ticked off the list..." Lucy looks at the baby directly, "Haru, you can go with daddy, while mama gets herself ready for bed" She lifted the slippery baby up, kissing his forehead before handing him back to Natsu. He wrapped Haru in a towel and held him close, walking out of the bathroom to go get him ready.
By the time Lucy had finished in the bathroom, she made her way into the main room of her apartment, stopping as she closed the door. The picture in front of her was one that made her heart soar, it was so precious. There was Natsu sprawled out on the bed snoring lightly with Haru sleeping peacefully on his chest and Happy snuggled up against his head. She sighed in contentment, they all looked so peaceful, it was hard to believe that the rambunctious dragon slayer could look so innocent whilst asleep, same goes for that pesky blue feline too, and then there was little Haru and what a sweetheart he was awake or asleep.
She walked over her still cluttered room and ever so gently picked Haru up to place him in his crib. She quietly got into bed beside Natsu, trying not to disturb them. It didn’t bother her like it use to that he would sleep next to her, it was such a regular occurrence now, she just got use to his presence. And now she found it hard to sleep without his warmth, he made her feel safe and his scent was comforting.
She rolled over to face the sleeping fire breather, relishing in his warmth as he sleepily enveloped her with his arms, mumbling something in his sleep.
“Good night boys!” Lucy whispered, smiling into the slayer’s solid chest, as she slowly drifted off into a well deserved slumber.
Take it on the Run
Gratsu Week 2020 Prompt: “That idiot! Running off on his own again” Pairing: Gray x Natsu
AO3
They stood in the wreckage of their guildhall, still not able to believe that the Master had disbanded the guild. The silence was overwhelming as they all stared at the remains. It had been their home for so long none of them had any idea of what to do or where to go. Or even who they might be without it.
“He’s gone!”
Gray turned his head sharply at Lucy’s cries, his fists clenching at his sides as their meaning sunk in. It didn’t take much to figure out who she was talking about. Gray had already noticed that the Flame Brain wasn’t there, and while strange, he’d thought that he was still holed away in his house, caught up in his grief over Igneel’s death.
That idiot! Running off on his own again.
It’s not like Gray could blame him, he’d thought about doing the same thing, but in the end, he’d decided he’d rather find a distraction to keep him from thoughts of his late father and what had been done to him. Not to mention the strange magic that he had bequeathed him. Gray had only used it a few times, but he had developed a healthy fear of it. The way it made him feel, it wasn’t something he was willing to play with even though he understood that he needed to learn to control it before it had the chance to control him.
While everyone asked Lucy who she was talking about, he peered at Erza, waiting for her reaction. When he received a nod, he immediately took off for his apartment, rushing to get a bag together and go after his idiotic whatever the hell he was to him these days.
That was another source of confusion that he’d been avoiding thinking about for quite a while. Something had changed between them. Gray wasn’t sure when it had happened, or even if it was something the other wanted, but none of that was important now.
Gray couldn’t deny that he felt hurt that Natsu had left Lucy a note instead of him, and maybe it was for that reason that he’d chosen not to stick around to hear the message. Although he supposed it made a sort of sense, Lucy had become very attached to Natsu, and the dragon slayer wouldn’t have wanted to worry her.
Natsu was hurting, and for the first time in his life, the grief was so profound that he couldn’t hide it behind one of his smiles like he always did. It didn’t necessarily surprise him that the dragon slayer had taken off, it was more the fact that he had done so as quickly as he did. That’s the part that worried Gray.
He knew he had to find him before he did something stupid, like try to avenge Igneel by going after Acnologia by himself. Gray refused to lose anyone else that was important to him. But where the hell would he have gone?
The only thing he was sure of was Natsu wouldn’t take transportation, but with Happy being able to fly him and his ability to use fire to speed himself up, he already had a pretty big head start.
Gray finished packing, grabbed the last of his jewels, and left before Juvia could attempt to follow him.
0-0
He had roamed around Fiore for weeks, his worry bubbling inside him with every passing day. Memories of Natsu’s sobs over Igneel’s remains urging him on even though he had no clear trail to follow.
He trained as he walked, at first using only his regular ice magic. Gray molded object after object refamiliarizing himself with his magic as he worked on his focus and his precision. Then he began adding small amounts of his new magic, being careful not to draw too much power just in case he lost control. The combination made his ice more robust, but even using that small amount, Gray could feel that strange darkness probing him, and it scared him.
In his determination to find Natsu, he came up with something he’d never tried before. After much trial and error, he was able to create a pair of wings strong enough to bear his weight. Using everything he remembered from Ur's lessons and the little dynamic Ice-Make Lyon had managed to teach him, he was able to make them fly.
His first flight had been as terrifying as it had been exhilarating. He’d almost crashed countless times as he attempted to learn how to maneuver through air currents, but Gray was no stranger to hard work, and within a day or two, he’d gotten the hang of it.
Dont do anything stupid, Flame Brain, at least not til I get there.
Flying sped up his efforts considerably, and it was especially helpful around mountainous areas. Gray was now able to travel long distances in one day. Even so, when he finally found Natsu, it was due more to luck than any action on his part.
He’d been flying around at night when he felt an overwhelming source of heat. His wings began to melt, and he had to reinforce them swiftly before he plummeted into the darkness.
Gray swooped down excitedly, determined to find the source when he heard what sounded like a loud explosion followed by inconsolable wails, communicating a sorrow that tugged at his heartstrings.
Searching for a safe spot to land, he discovered a clearing, and as soon as his feet touched the ground, he ran, knowing he’d found the dragon slayer at last. He followed the sound of the cries only to stop in his tracks when he caught his first glimpse of Natsu.
“Gray!” Happy greeted, and the ice mage could hear the relief hiding in that greeting, which could only mean the Exceed was worried, and given what he’d just seen, Gray wasn’t all that surprised.
He muttered a greeting in response, his eyes never leaving Natsu, appraising the changes the last few weeks had wrought. The dragonslayer was filthy, which was to be expected from being on the road for so long, Gray was sure he didn’t look much better.
But it was much more than that. Natsu appeared too thin, making Gray wonder if he’d been eating regularly. His olive eyes, which had always been imbued with the spirit of his determination, now appeared dull and empty.
It was disconcerting and much worse than Gray had anticipated.
“Easy, it’s just me,” Gray kept his voice soft when he noticed that Natsu looked like he was about to bolt. He sat down where he stood, keeping some distance between them.
“What are you doing here? ” Natsu groaned, hiding his head in his hands, but he seemed to be calming down, and Gray took that as a good sign. “I specifically asked to be left alone.”
“Did you? I didn’t exactly stick around to hear your little note,” Gray shrugged, making a valiant effort to sound like it hadn’t bothered him.
Natsu peered up at whatever he heard in Gray’s voice before quickly looking down at his hands, “Gray, I-,” he sighed, “I was going to write you one, but I couldn’t come up with the words I wanted, Lucy was... easier.”
“You didn’t have to leave at all, you dumbass,” Gray pointed out, “We would all have been there for you. ”
“I didn’t want anyone to see me like this,” Natsu revealed, and after a moment, admitted, “I didn’t want you to see me like this.”
“Natsu -,” words escaped him. Gray wanted to tell him that he’d been almost sick with worry since the moment he’d realized that Natsu had left, but he understood that wasn’t what the dragon slayer needed from him right then. And in the absence of words, there was only one thing he could think to do. He stood up, approaching Natsu slowly.
“Come here, you big idiot,” Gray grabbed Natsu in a rough embrace, smiling when he felt the dragon slayer relax into him, his arms slowly coming up to return the gesture. “I’m just glad I found you.”
“How did you?” Natsu sounded puzzled, but he didn’t let go of Gray, and the ice mage took that as a win.
“Luck mostly,” Gray answered honestly, gently rubbing circles on Natsu’s back, “and a healthy dose of wanting to kick your ass for leaving in the first place.”
Natsu stiffened at that, and Gray was quick to let go of him. He walked over to his pack and searched for some food he could share with the dragon slayer. Finding some apples, he grabbed a handful along with the last of his jerky and shared them with Natsu and Happy.
Happy didn’t even complain about it not being fish, devouring his apple in one bite, and looking hopefully at Gray for another. Natsu studied his apple for a few minutes before taking a tentative bite and sitting down.
Gray sat next to him, placing the rest of the food on the ground atop Happy’s green kerchief. Natsu needed to eat something more substantial, but this would have to do for now. He’d hunt them down some food once he was sure that Natsu wouldn’t try to take off in his absence. Maybe he could even convince him to do it together like they sometimes did on team jobs.
Natsu continued to eat slowly, something Gray never thought he’d see in his lifetime, taking occasional peeks at Gray.
“I’m not going back,” Natsu said defensively, “at least not yet,” he amended when he saw Gray getting ready to protest.
“I have to get stronger so I can take him out,” Natsu roared, ” I won’t lose to him again!”
“I know, I’m not here to take you back,” Gray assured him, “I’m here for you, and, “ he paused, wondering if it was too soon, “because I need your help.”
“My help?” Natsu watched him warily, trying to catch the lie in his words, “What could you possibly want my help with?”
“It wasn’t your fault,” Gray insisted, recognizing the disgust in Natsu’s voice. He knew Natsu would never stop blaming himself for what had happened to Igneel, just like Gray would never forgive himself for not being able to give his father the peace he’d asked for, “there was nothing you could have done, nothing any of us could have done.”
“It’s not fair!” Natsu lamented, punching the ground for emphasis, even as his eyes shone with unshed tears. “He was right there, Gray, and then he was taken from me before I even had a chance to talk to him. And then to find out he’d been inside me all along - I searched all those years! What kind of rotten trick was that?!”
“I don’t know,” Gray answered honestly, “ but even I could see he loved you. I have to imagine it wasn’t an easy decision for him to make.”
He took a chance and reached out for Natsu’s hand, squeezing it firmly and pulling him closer until their knees touched.
“Gray?” Natsu glanced at him in surprise, and Gray had to admit it was unusual for him to be so tactile.
Outside of the occasional fistbump, the only time they ever really touched was during their neverending brawls, but maybe it was time to change that as well, to give a name to whatever it was that was happening between them. If this experience had taught him anything, it was that life was full of curveballs, and you had to hold on to the things that were important to you before they too were taken away.
“I know you think you failed, but we’re going to get stronger, and we’re going to take down that sonofabitch, and E.N.D, and Zeref, and anyone else who gets in our way,” Gray vowed, “but we’re only going to be able to manage that if we work together.”
Gray had made a promise to his father, and he intended to keep it, to put an end to all the suffering his family and others like them had suffered at the hands of Zeref’s demons. But he had also made many promises to himself in regards to his Fairy Tail family, and Acnologia had come after them twice now. They couldn’t afford to give him a third chance.
Natsu didn’t respond to his words right away, weighing them carefully against whatever he’d been planning to do. His gaze shifted from Gray’s face to their joined hands until he managed a smile for the first time since Gray had arrived.
“Together then,” he agreed, and for a brief moment, Gray caught a glimpse of the usual spark in Natsu’s eyes, and it gave him hope that everything would turn out alright.
Natsu
Natsu would definitely be a mix of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, but I think he would lean more towards Gryffindor. Before you try to argue with me just listen for a sec. Natsu is brave, reckless, daring and has a strong moral compass. But he is also fiercely loyal, kind and has dedication that rivals most of the other members. He would do just about anything for his family and is clearly not afraid to fight for them. He is driven and has the power to back up his determination. We see him in nearly every battle being reckless and brave. I mean just look at how he fought future Rogue after he killed Lucy. His loyalty knows no bounds. Which is honestly why I was so shocked when he and Gray actually tried to kill each other in chapter 506-507. We clearly see that Natsu can be ridiculously hot-headed (specially towards Gray/Gajeel). As far as we can see, he relies mainly on instinct and can be short tempered. We know that he may not be the most intelligent person, but after watching the match between him and the twin dragons in the GMG Arc, there is no doubt in my mind that Natsu is brilliant when it comes to battle. He is cunning and takes note of his enemy’s missteps. He uses all this information and wins nearly every battle he faces, (except for train ofc). But this causes Natsu to be arrogant and borderline egotistical at times.
Lucy
Lucy really seems like the type who would be put in Ravenclaw. She can very easily be sorted into one of the other houses but I think that the Ravenclaw in her stands out the most. Lucy can act vain and almost airheaded sometimes but that doesn’t mean that she’s a brilliant wizard and an amazing tactician. Where she may not have the brute strength or immeasurable magic power like some of her teammates, Lucy is known to get herself out of tight situations using her quick thinking skills and staying rational in various situations. Lucy herself has shown to be creative and resourceful. Remember the way she swayed Loke’s view of himself and how she convinced the Celestial Spirit King to allow him back into the spirit realm. Had Loke been left to his own devices, he without a doubt would’ve died. Lucy is clever and has amazing magic potential, even early in the series. Think back to the Tower of Heaven Arc. Tough we didn’t see much of Lucy that arc, remember her battle with Juvia. First she managed to break Juvia free from that freaky water guy’s succubus thing, (with Aquarius’s help). Then they perform a Unison Raid, which has been mentioned to be incredibly difficult spell that allows two mages to combine two kinds of magic together to create an even stronger attack. Jellal mentions that many priests waste their entire lives trying to achieve the unison raid without success. (there’s more to say but maybe sometime i’ll make a post based on lucy. i just love this girl)
Erza
Erza could easily be put into both Slytherin and Gryffindor. So much so that I actually can’t tell which one she would be in, so I’m just gonna give descriptions for both. Erza is ambitious and determined. She has the power to back up any goal she has in mind and never gives up. She is has yet to lose a battle to anyone (as far as I know). She could easily be one of the most powerful members in the guild and perhaps even in the Fairy Tail universe. She can have an ego at times but in all honesty, that ego is almost entirely justified. Erza is ridiculously powerful. It is mentioned by Ultear that Erza had most likely already unlocked her second origin without any magical assistance. She is cunning and resourceful in battle and is daring in any situation. However that bravery and boldness can turn to recklessness quickly. Like Natsu, Erza has a good moral compass and a strong sense of justice. She is noble and chivalrous and always rushes to protect the people who can’t protect themselves.
Gray
Now some of you might disagree but for me, Gray is absolutely, 100% Gryffindor. Before you get butthurt, think about the way he rushes into battle, the way he recklessly tries to sacrifice himself. Compared to Natsu he might be considered tame, but a large part of Natsu is also very Hufflepuff. Gray’s bravery and drive to become a great wizard proves that he can easily be considered a true Gryffindor. As I mentioned before, he clearly has no problem putting himself in the way of harm, especially for the sake of his loved ones - think back to the Deliora incident. God knows Natsu has had to stop him from using Iced Shell more than once. Gray is an amazing wizard. He is popular, charismatic, and is relatively good at most things he does. But these things often leaves people to be arrogant. And in some situations, even Gray isn’t spared. The arrogance and pride causes Gray to be reckless and sometimes even downright stupid. Gray is fiercely determined and he has proved that time and time again. For me, the most memorable moment of Gray proving his determination has to be when he fought Ultear on Tenrou Island, or when he battled Rufus on the final day of the Grand Magic Games. For now I’ll stick to Gray vs Ultear, simply because this one gave me tingles when I first watched it. No matter how much Ultear tried to kill him or talked about Ur, he never gave up. Throughout the battle, he kept trying to tell Ultear the truth about Ur and their situation and why Ultear ended up the way she did.
Wendy
ah Wendy. sweet, innocent Wendy. The most obvious answer for Wendy would be Hufflepuff. Lots of people seem to think that Wendy is 100% Hufflepuff without any regard toward any of the other houses. But for me, I feel like a part of Wendy is Ravenclaw. She has shown throughout the series that she is intelligent, curious, and a creative girl. She thinks outside the box and cares deeply about her comrades. She is loyal and determined. Just look at the battle with her and Bickslow vs Erigor. Even when Bickslow ttold her to just leave him behind and save herself, she continually came back to try and help. Where others might disagree, I think that’s a huge reason why they won that fight. Something that sets Wendy apart from the rest of her teammates is her humble attitude towards herself. All the members of team Natsu, (excluding Wendy and maybe Lucy), can be arrogant and prideful. But with Wendy, she may have faith in her skills, but she doesn’t simply assume that everything will go according to plan. This sometimes causes her to have a lack of self-esteem. On occasion we see her lacking confidence in her abilities. Think back to the way she reacted to being chosen for the Grand Magic Games. She nearly panicked, thinking that someone more powerful should’ve been picked. Now we know that Wendy is ridiculously strong, but anyone can be insecure. She has a strong sense of justice and becomes less of a pushover as she grows. Time and time again we see her standing up to fight when she sees someone being wronged. Being the youngest members on the team, Wendy has a sort of innocence to her. We see her having a hard time lying and disliking confrontation. But her innocence causes her to be almost naive. She is an optimist and is generally very cheery, but this does mean that she can be naive. If Wendy is not careful, she could be tricked or her feelings taken advantage of. For example, the Nirvana incident. Brain took advantage of her history with EdoJellal and that caused her to revive him. Of course it all worked out in the end but we can’t say that she wasn’t used.
-
sorry for mentioning the GMG so much. i’m rewatching the series and i’m at the dragon king festival right now.
Hi!!! Can I make a request? Please do Angst number 7, or 8, or 15 :) hahahha! Thank you in advance :)
Thank you so much for your request! I'm sorry it took me so long, please forgive me! Also I couldn't decide on a number so I tried to combine them all.. Really hope you like it 💙
Angst Prompt 7, 8 and 15:
"Do you even still love me?"
"Nobodys seen you in days"
"I told you not to fall in love with me."
It wasn't supposed to go like this. Really, Gray made sure nothing could go wrong. Or else he wouldn't have agreed to her coming along so easily. And yet here they were. Despite all his precautions, he found himself in the very situation he so badly wanted to avoid.
He had called her name before the bolt of magic coming her way would hit her. Juvia managed to get out of the way just in time to dodge the attack and counter it with one of her own. That didn't stop the panic rising in Gray though. No matter how many enemies they took down, he couldn't shake the feeling away that something bad was about to happen.
Looking around, he found all of his friends fighting around him. Lucy was summoning another spirit, Erza just changed her armor and Natsu was using his flames to make the enemy retreat. But to no avail. No matter how many they defeated, it seemed there were always more coming.
He was getting close to breaking down. It was all going so well earlier. They found what they were looking for, had lunch together, Juvia tried to feed him once again. It was going great actually. They were just making their way back, ready to receive their payment, when they had to be attacked.
Gray didn't know who it was that was attacking them nor why, he only knew that if they didn't manage to finish them off soon, this could turn out badly for him and his friends.
"Gray!"
He heard someone call his name, felt someone shove him out of the way, he felt the attack barely missing him. And then he heard screams.
Gray was frozen to his spot, everything a blur around him. He heard names being called. His, Juvias, Wendy's..  so many names. And then he turned around.
Blue hair. Pale skin. Red hands. Red. Blood. So much blood.
It all hit him at once. The realization, the anger, the pain. So much pain. He could feel the air freezing around him. It was getting dangerously cold, a sheet of ice covering the grass, the plants, anything in his perimeter. But he couldn't feel it. Not the ice. Not the cold. It didn't affect him. There was only pain and anger, so much of it.
Gray saw the black marks rising on his arm. And then the anger won over. He lost his ability to think straight, the ability to focus on anyone else beside the guy who had attacked her. He let his powers take control and lashed out.
When he came back to his senses, the enemy was defeated. He watched his marks vanish, alongside the anger. And when they were gone, there was only one thing left: Pain. So much pain.
Gray turned her way, unable to breath. She was still there, in the same spot as earlier. Wendy was leaning over her, focusing on the wound that just wouldn't stop bleeding. He could see so much of it, the blood. He felt a tear rolling down before realization hit him. Practically running, he got to her side and dropped down next to her.
He took her hand. It was so small compared to his. And so cold. Hands weren't supposed to be this cold. Maybe his, but not hers.
Gray looked over to Wendy desperately. She was too focused on her task to realize though. Gray followed her line of sight, focusing his attention on the wound below her chest. So close to her old one. Another one that he was to blame for.
Gray looked at her face. If you ignored the blood around her, she would look like a peacefully sleeping angel. But she wasn't sleeping. Instead she was fighting for her life.
She was still alive. Unconscious, but alive. Gray could see her chest rising, indicating that she was breathing. There was still hope. Gray watched her closely, desperately waiting for any sign. Any sign that this was a bad dream. He saw Wendy sitting back and removing her hands from the wound.
And when he looked back at Juvia, he saw her eyes open, full with fear and frantically searching for something. When they rested on him, she visibly relaxed.
They just looked at each other, both unable to form words. She took her hand out of his, instead putting it on his cheek and wiping the tears away that escaped his eyes.
"It's okay.." she barely whispered, yet he could hear her clearly.
"It's not."
"Gray.."
"No. No, don't. Why? Why would you.."
She looked at him, a faint of a smile on her face. Despite the pain she was currently feeling, her eyes softened.
"Because I love you."
Don't.  Please don't. Everyone who loves me dies. Why don't you learn? Why don't you run away from me? Why do you keep staying by my side? Why? Gray had so many things running through his head, so much he wanted to tell her, ask her. Instead he only managed to choke out one sentence.
"I told you not to fall in love with me."
***
Several days had passed since that day. Gray was desperately trying to avoid everyone. Especially a certain water mage that has been running through his mind. She has been haunting him, his dreams, nightmares. No matter what and where, she was always there.
He had made sure that she was okay, that the wound had healed properly. But once he was sure that she would be fine, he left, taking mission after mission. Just as long as he wasn't around, as long as he didn't have to see her. He couldnt deny that it hurt him. He missed her, her smile, her hugs. But it was for the best. He couldn't let this happen again, her sacrificing herself in order to protect him. And he knew she'd do it again. So he made a decision. A decision that would hurt the both of them. But it was necessary. He wanted to protect her and that was the only way he could.
Gray made his way to the guild hall. It was time to talk to her. He couldn't postpone it anymore because he was afraid he'd never go through with it. The moment he entered the hall he could feel so many eyes on him. But he ignored it and walk straight towards the table where he saw Juvia. She had immediately caught his eye.
When he arrived at said table he took a deep breath, bracing himself for what was coming.
"Graysama! Nobody's seen you in days! Juvia was so worried."
She hugged him, resting her cheek on his chest.
"Juvia came to check up on you. But Mirajane told her that you left on missions. How did it go? Why didn't you tell anyone, Juvia would have come along."
Of course she would have. Wasn't that the problem? How willing she was to do things for him? He hold her by her arms, slowly pushing her away.
"We need to talk."
Juvias smile immediately vanished. Instead her eyes filled with worry.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
He could still feel so many eyes on him.
"Not here. Let's go."
He walked towards the door and glanced back to make sure Juvia was following. He lead her to the park and sat on one of the empty benches.
"So what is it you need to tell Juvia?"
"How's your injury?"
"It's fine, Wendy healed Juvia very good."
"I'm glad."
"Is that what you want to talk to Juvia about?"
"Yeah, kind of.."
Gray paused, not sure how to open up the topic he wanted to get to. But it turned out he didn't have to because Juvia spoke up instead.
"You've been blaming yourself again, haven't you?"
She knew him so well. Too well. Somehow Gray felt like she knew exactly why they were here, what he was planning to do.
"That's why you weren't at the guild hall those past days. You didn't want to face Juvia."
"I-"
"Graysama, this was a decision Juvia made herself. And she would have done it for the others too. Whether it was you, Lucy, Erza. Anyone. Because that's what Juvia does for the people she loves. And nothing you will say is going to change that."
"But-"
"No. Juvia doesn't want to hear it."
"You don't even know what I want to say!"
"You want to push Juvia away!"
Silence. She was looking at him, daring him to deny it. There were hints of anger on her face but she seemed to be holding back. Gray let out a frustrated groan. This woman was going to be the end of him.
"Juvia. I'm trying to protect you."
"By pushing Juvia away? How is this supposed to protect Juvia?"
"You won't get hurt because of me!"
"You'd be the one hurting me!"
Another silence. Juvia took a deep breath.
"Listen.. Juvia understands what you're thinking. Why you want this. But it isn't fair. It isn't fair that you let your fears rule over. You told Juvia to be patient, to wait for you. And Juvia is willing to do that. But not if this is what she's awaiting."
Gray gulped. Unable to form an answer. Of course this isn't what he made her wait for. But it was what was necessary. He couldn't risk her getting hurt or worse dying for him. So what if she had to deal with heartbreak for a while, wasn't that better than her being gone forever?
"Juvia will leave. Juvia will not bother you anymore. She won't join you on missions. She won't address you with sama anymore, won't make you food, pick up your clothes. She will try to not love you anymore. It all depends on the answer you'll give her to her question. Juvia won't doubt your answer, she'll accept it, no matter what the answer is."
Gray hated this. Just imagine life like that hurt him. But isn't that what he wanted? Isn't that what was necessary to protect her from him? He was aware that it would hurt the both of them if he went through with it. Wasn't that a risk he was so willing to take?
"What's your question?"
"Do you even love me?"
She was looking at him and she seemed so vulnerable. Gray looked away. He knew what he was about to say would hurt her and he didn't have the strength to see her breaking. He was a coward.
He knew the answer to her question. It took him a lot of time to figure it out, to realize what it was he was feeling everytime he was around her. Turns out the feeling was love. Because yes, he loves her, Gray Fullbuster loves Juvia Lockser, he loves her more than anything. She's his power to live, the one person who makes him smile, the one who keeps him sane. She's his everything. But he couldn't tell her that. Because then she would never let him go. And he was afraid he wouldn't let her either. He had to do it now before he became to weak to go through with it, before she managed to break down his walls completely.
"Not in the way you want me to."
Gray still didn't look at her. He couldn't. He had already heard the sharp intake of breath. There was an awkward moment filled with silence before Juvia finally decided to speak up.
"Juvia understands."
She got up and Gray made the mistake of looking at her. She looked so pained, so hurt and her eyes were filled with tears that where going to be shed any moment now. Gray already regretted his answer, but it was too late now. The damage was done.
"Juvia won't bother you anymore. Goodbye, Graysa- Gray. Goodbye Gray.."
She walked away, not bothering to wait for an answer. She didn't look back, not once. She wouldn't turn around, after all she had promised him. And that was good because it was what he wanted, wasn't it?
Gray watched her form disappear before it hit him that it was over. All of it. Juvia would never be the same towards him again. They would never be together. They were just guild mates now, nothing more, nothing less. Gray should be happy. But why did it hurt so much? Why did it feel like Juvia had taken his heart with her?
He felt something hit his face, followed by more. Rain drops. It was raining. He could tell that it was his doing, he was the one who brought the rain back. And somehow this was what made it final.
Gray stayed on the bench and let the rain mix with his tears. This pain, it was worse then any injury he had dealt with before. And unlike an injury, this one couldn't be healed..
It was over. He had lost her. And he wouldn't get her back.
Girls Like Girls
Re-uploading my old works #1. This was actually the first fairy tail fanfic I wrote. This is in a different style than the way I write now but I still do like this.
Erza leaned back against the guild wall with a smirk. Years ago, the scene in front of her would have drawn up feelings of frustration and jealously, but now, it only filled her with amusement. It was an occurring one after all. It starts out simple enough. A guy would come to the guild looking for “magic advice” or to offer them a job only to miraculously run into the one and only Mirajane Strauss. They would fluster and stutter through asking for her autograph, which Magnolia’s sweetheart would never refuse, and wait at the bar until she finished whatever task she was doing. They would use that time to refocus and psych themselves up so by the time Mira returned to them, they were completely over confident and cocky. She’d sign their magazine (never questioning why they brought the magazine with them if they were only there for official purposes) while they flirted with her endlessly. Mira would play the role of a humble supermodel and act like she doesn't notice the way they tried to sling an arm around her waist or smell her hair. The boys would get more flustered and desperate as time went on leading them to make some more…direct remarks. The most common ones were about Mira’s appearance and how lucky her boyfriend must be to be able to spend the night with her. Mira would laugh and hand them their signed item. The guy would try to touch her hand, Mira wouldn’t let them. She’d wish them a good day causing the man to panic and blurt out questions
They’d ask if she had a boyfriend.
She’d say no.
They’d ask her on a date.
Mira would smile sweetly and shake her head while responding,
“Sorry, I don’t date fans. It’s against company policies.” Erza heard Mira tell the boy holding onto her arm. His face fell as he raced to try and change her mind.
“But, I’m not just any fan. I’m your biggest fan! I loved you forever Mirajane!”
‘They all say that’ Erza thought to herself. Mira gently removed his hand off her arm.
“Sorry but rules are rules. If you’re still looking for Master, I’d be happy to go get him for you.”
“No that’s okay…” the boy muttered lowly. “Are you sure I can’t say anything to convince you otherwise? I’m a really nice guy, I swear. I’m not a creep like some of your other fanboys must be. If you went on a date with me, you’d see that.”
Erza let a chuckle slip from her lips as she pushed herself off the wall and walked towards the bar. The guy turned to look at her, but Mira kept her gaze locked on him. “I’m really sorry. Is there anything else I could help you with?”
The boy’s shoulders dropped. “No, thanks for the autograph.” He made his way to the door before suddenly stopping.
“Wait Mirajane!” He yelled before racing back to the bar.
Erza heard Mira’s sigh before she could fully repress it. “Yes?”
The boy slammed a flyer onto the table. “Are you going to this festival?!”
Erza sat at a barstool and glanced at the familiar paper. It was a flyer for the lights festival happening in 2 weeks. “Did you take that off the guild wall?” She purposely let her voice come out a bit deeper. Gray and Natsu always said she sounded more menacing when she lowered her voice.
“Um…yes…sorry” He muttered lowering his gaze.
Mira gave her a warning glare before focusing back on the boy. “Why yes I am. Why do you ask?”
He perked up. “Well because I’m going there too! And if we’re both going there alone, then why not go together!”
Mira gave the kid another one of her rejection softening smiles before turning around and fixing a drink. “Thanks for the offer, but I’m not going alone. I already have a date.”
The boy went from perky to depressed by the time she finished her sentence. “So, you do have a boyfriend then.”
“I have a date” she corrected. “And my date doesn’t like crowds, so we’ll mostly be in the secluded parts of the festival. I doubt we would run into you.”
He frowned and Erza could tell . “You know Mirajane, it almost sounds like this guy is trying to hide you and keep you all to himself. Going to the quiet parts of the festival is probably his way of keeping you away from your adoring fans and loving public. You shouldn’t go out with someone like that. If you were my girl I’d show you off to everybody. Everyone would know that we were together while this guy wouldn’t let you tell Sorcerer’s Weekly that you are dating.”
The usually noisy guild fell silent and all eyes turned towards the bar. Some looked worried (mainly Lucy and Lisanna) while most looked on eager and expectantly. Erza couldn’t help but let a few chuckles escaped her lips. Most people would find her amusement with these types of situations strange, but Erza couldn’t help herself. Watching the now sweet Mirajane turn into the she devil Erza knew as a child always made her day. The boy looked around awkwardly before shouting at Erza.
“Hey! What’s so funny? I’m completely serious! This guy is taking advantage of Mirajane and you guys are being terrible guildmates by letting him-”
“Stop.” Mira ordered. She crossed her arms and glared at the boy. Even though she was shorter than him, that glare was enough to make her seem like the largest person in the room. “Just stop. You are really confused on some matters. First off, it was my decision to avoid people whenever we go out because I don’t want anything to interrupt my time with my girlfriend-”
“Girlfriend?!” He shouted surprise.
“Hey, it’s my turn to talk now. Wait until I’m finished then you may proceed.” The growl in her voice quickly quieted any future outbursts.
“She’s using the mom voice on him” Cana muttered next to her. It was true. Gone was ‘Magnolia’s sweetheart’ Mirajane and out came the she devil. Erza loved it. Her girlfriend was beautiful when she lost control. Erza just hoped she didn’t go into her satan soul this time.
“Now as I was saying, it was also my decision for Sorcerer’s Weekly to keep my relationship out of the papers because I don’t want people like you to harass us on every detail of our relationship. What goes onto between me and her is between us. No one else. I don’t need relationship advice from you. Don’t pretend to know anything about her. Our relationship already has everything it needs. You and I will never happen because I don’t like boys.” Mira took a few steps back before giving another false smile. “Now feel free to leave my guild hall before the other side of me takes over. You asked about my transformations before, right? I’d love to show you one.”
The guy nodded before quickly running out of the front door. Mira sighed before collapsing into the nearest bar stool. “Something funny dear?” She muttered sarcastically.
“Why yes dear,” Erza fired right back “I just watched my girlfriend get hit on for an hour until the guy finally realized she was gay.”
“It’s not funny Erza!”
“It’s hilarious! That’s the third guy to come in here today. I can only imagine how many more will pop in before the festival starts.” Mira groaned. “And for someone who doesn’t want them to know that we’re dating, you sure do call me your girlfriend a lot.”
“I don’t think he would have gotten the hint if I didn’t. Maybe next time I should try kissing you in front of the next person to ask me out. That should get the point across.”
Erza smirked at the idea. “You’re cold Mirajane. Most people would start crying if they knew their supermodel girlfriend was taken and swung the other way.”
“I’m nobody’s girlfriend expect yours Erza” she whispered before leaning over and kissing her. “And maybe it’s time for the rest of the world to know that.”
