Nimona is so cool because it's just so openly queer. like yes there are gay men and they kiss and Nimona is obviously very queer but it's not like "whoa look these are GAY men" it's not based around the queerness. that isn't what the story is about. it's about a babygirl knight and his shapeshifting kid battling a corrupt government. It's so awesome that it isn't boldly highlighted in the movie, it's just like an extra thing that is completely normal and accepted in the kingdom. I adore the way Alien shows you and makes you feel the crew is absolutely alone

The sets are so cool but feel empty (as well as almost feeling sterile on parts of the ship) and in a good way. They aren’t lived in, there’s people there temporarily, not long term, and only a small amount.

On a ship, in space

The cuts to the desolate planet with only the wind howling

The cut to it immediately after Kane gets attacked, showing you he is alone, no one is there to save him, no one can hear him, the rest of the crew is on the ship or not immediately next to him, and the crew alone

No one can hear them, no one is on the planet with them, they are stuck, alone

A lot of people like this movie but I don't think the fans are realizing how amazing it truly is. It is subversive, it is pro-feminist, and it is believable. It is a slasher film that shows us a young woman's descent into madness without romanticizing, fetishizing, or villainizing her insanity. As a horror fan who takes the genre very seriously, this is the only slasher film I have ever respected. I always find slashers to be cheap, full of over-used tropes and fear mongering; what's more, they often use shocking elements of gore and sexuality to scare the viewer into accepting a certain message (usually a shallow and harmful message such as "schizophrenic people are dangerous" or "women's sexuality should be punished with murder"). This film is different. If you watch Pearl, please do not get distracted by the beauty of lead actress, Mia Goth, or the pleasant costumes and cinematography. Take the time to really appreciate this film in it's entirety.

You know in a world that’s over saturated with pop feminist “fairytales are bad actually >:(” takes Enchanted is so refreshing to come back to. You know what? Fairytales are cool actually! Just don’t let them consume your perspective. And also? The real world’s pretty cool too! The breadth of human experience, even the bad parts, is so…COOL

Not to mention not having a female protagonist who’s “not like other princesses” but one who’s feminine and grows as a person AND kicks ass (without that being lampshades to hell and back)? Revolutionary
