Thinking about step 9 and the whole concept of forgiveness of one’s self and others and it bringing healing and how bobby and Eddie have been paralleled a fair amount and the idea that Eddie started this process back at the end of s5 with his forgiveness and acceptance of his father but how he hasn’t yet gone anywhere near his mother and their relationship .

How his catholic guilt storyline seems more likely to play on his reltionship with his mother than his father (if his father wasn’t around that much it would’ve been Helena taking him to church etc each week) so the idea of an Eddie - Helena storyline that plays on catholic guilt and potentially his queerness in relation to that has me chewing on glass - it could be so epically good

#I’ve always viewed Helena as the biggest issue in Eddie’s relationship with his parents - Ramon has always - to me a least always seemed to #just go along with what Helena wants or dictates #it made sense with how his trauma ptsd army related arc played out that it was Ramon who was the centre of that #now though - catholic guilt - possibly playing into his queerness and suppression of that queerness #to keep some kind of reltionship with his mother - who only seems to view him through a lens of failure #leading him down a road where he wasn’t able to be his true self - it would be so powerful #there is so much potential there #eddie saying his mother wasn’t an issue in s6 - was such a choice and so pointed that they have to be wanting to explore that #so many aspects of who Eddie is and why he is the way he is - his want to nest but not being able to with women - stems from his mommy #issues and the fact he’s been denying they exist #I will eat it up - it would be the right kind of angst for the show and Ryan would deliver #plus the way it parallels with Bobby and his relationship with Catholicism would be fascinating #not to mention the whole Eddie not having a relationship with the faith he was brought up in only to start dating someone who is a literal #embodiment of that faith - and female - as a symbol of his needing to explore and reconcile the actual reasons for his faith lapsing- become #could not be queer and Latino and catholic when Eddie was growing up - it wasn’t an option - so if you step away from the faith that’s #denying a fundamental aspect of who you are #even if you still can’t act upon it - ​it is easier to keep that part of you concealed #911 spoilers #911 Thinky thoughts #eddie diaz #I need this arc to be a thing so badly #911 abc

Chapter 110 is 13 pages long welcome to hell!!! so in a lot of ways this is just more fuel for a theory that I've had for a few weeks now, that's only gotten stronger with each recent season 5 episode, which is that the last episode of the season is gonna end on 110, and that Asagiri/Harukawa and Bones have been collaborating to make this happen, specifically because it's a major turning point that would be the only good place to end the season on.

When we started getting especially long chapters again (like from 25-35ish pages, with the exception of 107.5, the last two being some of the longest we've ever had), at first I just assumed that Asagiri/Harukawa got freed up from some other obligations they'd been having to cause the extremely short/half chapters, like promotional stuff for the anime/Beast movie, or working on light novels. But then 109 happened, with the "supposed" death of Dazai, and heavy emphasis at the end on how literally everyone is at their lowest point right now, and I got to thinking. 11 episodes is a strangely specific number for an anime season -- why not 12, or 13, or even 10, like you'd usually see? Why have we gotten suddenly gotten two 35 page chapters out of nowhere, that's almost unheard of at this point? They're both beautiful chapters, don't get me wrong (as always), and maybe A/H simply just didn't want to cut them in halves because they felt like the full emotional impact wouldn't hit/that there were no good cutoff points in them, but you can't deny that it's surprising, after all the shorter chapters we've been getting. Why has the anime been going at such insanely breakneck pacing for the most part ever since around the Sunday Tragedy chapters, even more so than it has in the past? So much so that it feels dangerously close to overtaking the manga?

Well, maybe, just maybe, it's because..... Asagiri decided a long time ago that whatever happens in 110 is the only point that feels "season finale"-worthy enough, in an arc that still isn't anywhere close to being completely wrapped up, and so both the manga and the anime have been specifically coordinated to reach that part within 2 and a half weeks of each other?

I've seen a lot of people now think season 5 will end with 109, and as much as my sadistic side would find that hilarious, I honestly don't think they'd do that and realistically don't want it to happen; it'd be so cruel to cliffhanger the anime for years like that, and just doesn't feel like a season cliffhanger BSD would do, a series that is ultimately hopeful and uplifting. Seasons 2 and 3 had a positive, conclusive ending; the only reasons seasons 1 and 4 didn't was because they're technically not really full seasons of their own, and are more like the first cour of another "season" that also came out that same year (seasons 1 and 2 both aired in 2016, so they're more like one big season, and seasons 4 and 5 have both aired this year, so they're also more like one big season, again taking into account how episodes 12 and 50 are not satisfying finales like episodes 24, 37, and hypothetically, 61, are). I really can't see season 5 ending with Dazai and Fukuzawa's supposed deaths, Sigma being unconscious and maybe close to death, Atsushi being vulnerable and limbless again, everyone we love still vampires, and the entire world being basically doomed; that's just too depressing and not like BSD at all. However, having said that, if it doesn't end there, there really isn't any good place to end the season before that, either, that feels in any way satisfying or like a finale at all. And so, to me, that only leaves after 109: chapter 110.

I think things are really gonna turn around next chapter. Like I said, everyone is at their lowest point right now, it cannot possibly get any worse, the framing of Dazai, Fukuzawa, and sskk at the end of 109 is telling us that; this is the time for the heroes to finally start winning again, with Aya being so close to pulling out the sword, and for all the thematic reasons other people have talked about to death that I don't need to go into here again. This upcoming chapter being so short again makes a part of me wary of 110 being "the one", so to speak, I won't lie, but at the same time, it's very possible that it needs to be that short because that's all the final episode of the season will be able to reasonably fit in, since it's already gonna be VERY close if they do make it all the way to 109. And at the end of the day, I don't doubt at all that Asagiri and Harukawa can make these the most monumental and game-changing mere 13 pages ever if they wanted to; a chapter does not at all need to be extremely long in order to be an important and impactful one, even if short ones we've gotten in the past haven't felt the most important.

An additional thought I've had, though this is much more crack territory than all this already is, is that since we know from Anime Expo that a Stormbringer movie at some point is highly likely (judging from Asagiri's reaction when someone brought it up), it's possible that chapter 110 and thus the final episode will involve the long-anticipated return of Verlaine and/or Adam, or at least some other major reference to Stormbringer, that would naturally and smoothly lead into a Stormbringer movie to explain things to people who haven't read the novel. It would make a lot of sense, especially since the s4 OP has the Old World sign behind Chuuya, which might be a hint that this has been in the works ever since seasons 4/5 were first in planning with Asagiri. We also know that Dazai and Chuuya's voice actors apparently struggled to record their lines together this season, which probably relates to 101 and possibly 109, but it could be 110 too.... I could be very wrong, as I'm no expert on this kind of thing, but I kinda doubt they would bring Chuuya's actor in for just the vampire growls, and Asagiri placing heavy emphasis on Chuuya's importance this season in that one interview gives me the impression that he's talking about much more than just 101/109. But that's the least solid evidence I have, that's just mostly based on vibes I get.

So basically, I think a lot of factors -- the unusual episode count, how close the anime is to catching up to the manga with three whole episodes left, the seemingly arbitrary recent chapter lengths, and the climactic events of 109 -- can tell us that 110 might be a very, VERY big deal. Again, there's of course no way this arc is anywhere near close to being finished, with so much left to address and resolve, but since it is currently incomplete in the manga, unlike the previously adapted arcs, if the anime was going to adapt it at all, they'd have to find a place that feels satisfying enough to end this season, knowing there won't be more anime for a long time after this, and so I think they specifically planned for that, from both Bones' and A/H's sides. 10 episodes might not have been enough to reach that point, but 12 or 13 might have been too many it wouldn't have been if Bones actually decided to slow down and let the story breathe the way it needs to, but this post isn't meant to criticize the anime, so maybe 11 was just right. And maybe Asagiri and Harukawa specifically pushed to make recent chapters longer than usual, in order to make sure that the manga reached the story content in 110 the monthly release right before season 5 was to end.

Is this just copium? Absolutely. Am I going to look like an absolute clown in two days when this post ages like milk? Probably. But the evidence is There, so let me just enjoy my delusions until Sunday, okay 🥂🫡

so im on s5 of miraculous and i keep thinking about cat noirs whole “kept at a distance” arc bc it’s genuinely really interesting but gets so wasted by always winding up with him basically validating ladybugs nonsensical decisions and treatment—the same treatment that we were already shown upset him enough to destroy public properly about it. the most consistent reason LB ever gives cat about why he can’t be fully trusted or relied on is that he’s too much of a liability for their partnership to work—either because he’s too reckless, too in love with her, or his cataclysm would be too dangerous to use.

whatever it is, the baseline is that she thinks he’s a liability, and obviously that’s like salt in the wound for cat since he genuinely loves her and enjoys being partners with her, but it’s also just sad to see him continue to respect her decision and act like it isn’t a problem for him when he’s literally upset enough to physically lash out and use his powers to do so. and I know a lot of it can probably be explained by ladybug’s experience in the cat blanc timeline, but 1) she starts holding him at a distance way before that even happens, 2) she’s actively making it worse by not telling cat noir about cat blanc and why she thinks she has to exclude him for his own safety, and 3) SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM ABOUT CAT BLANC TO BEGIN WITH BECAUSE IT’S LITERALLY A WORLD ENDING SITUATION INVOLVING HIM DIRECTLY‼️‼️‼️‼️

instead she just allows him think he’s unwanted and unnecessary, calls the shots on how he should feel about “having more free time” and ironically makes him even more susceptible to being Akumatized because of it. ladybug might not be aware that cat is adrien and has a terrible home life he actively uses his miraculous to escape from, but she’s playing right into all the key aspects that adrien resents from his father; she decides what he wants without considering or asking him, she trusts him conditionally and still distances herself enough for him to just not know certain things. it’s done with good intentions, but it still clearly affects adrien very poorly, and it’s just such a frustrating glass-chewing miscommunication that only needlessly complicates the situation

don’t even get me started on Kuro Neko where ladybug falls head over heels for the changed version of her partner and narrowly avoiding her having to actually screw up and learn a lesson about accepting cat for who he actually is because catwalker is just “too perfect” for her to function—instead of being an obedient idealized version of her best friend who lets her be in control of everything (WHEN ADRIEN LITERALLY USES HIS DOUBLE LIFE TO HAVE THE CONTROL HE DOESN’T GET AT HOME).

theres so much potential for the base concept of the miraculous of destruction and its Kwami/holder being distrusted outliers among the rest of the Kwami/holders, but the magic system sucks and it kind of loses any chance when the other Kwamis are established to be catastrophic if they use their powers without a holder. and it gets even more confusing if you consider that Fu specifically chose adrien to hold that miraculous, but then encourages Marinette to keep her distance from him and barely acknowledges him as a hero in general. Like why did you even bother testing adrien for his worthiness or whatever if you obviously don’t think he’s worthy of knowing anything about you or the rest of the miraculous OR his best friend’s identity??? but you’re totally okay with her just giving them out to anyone in Paris who’s conveniently around and having her know their identity???? master fu when I catch you master fu

“The earth is littered with the ruins of empires that believed they were eternal” but let’s talk why that is an oxymoron. 

To love is to be changed, goes the saying. And when Durin is faced with a drowning friend holding out his arm for salvation, Durin thinks little of his own empire. His father, King, is wary: knows that Middle-Earth and all its variations are landmarked with remnants of empires and old glories fallen to memory and time and knows that, like all else, the elves have a time, the end of which they must eventually meet, no matter how long. It is bitter, as all passings are, and inevitable like all truths. To save the elves would mean their own demise; to risk dwarven lives, to plunge deeper into the depths of the earth with its foreboding reality hanging overhead: to dig further would be turning over the soil of their own graves. And yet, Durin does exactly that. 

To love is to be changed, and who’d have thought a dwarf would defy king and duty for the sake of elves (read: one half-elf who’d taken up a sword to save his life from a troll or two. Some think three and that the sword be a bow, but that is of no matter) and yet it is exactly what Durin does. Cripples his empire to save his friend (in hindsight, it does not fall in a day or two but years do feel like days to elves), and no-one talks much about how yet another ruin fell for love. When mentioning Durin’s great line, it is with the bitter taste of remembering yet another glory of another time brought to its knees. The dwarves pinnacled in their lifetime, it is remarked, but greed is a vicious master and they met ends in the depths of mountains where fire rears its head with a whip and a wizard would meet his match, where even Orcs and fell creatures of the dark cower in fear. But there is no-one to reiterate: Durin dug deep for his friend (read: the entire elven race). Durin’s empire had little gain from elven timber of a Whatnot Sacred Forest or wheat and grain though it turned the interest of dwarven lords, but Durin—loved and loving, against his wishes and better judgment—who rushed under crumbling mines to save his mining subjects from death defies king and country, and digs up precious ore for a most vicious greed: that he should keep his friend, for one more day, and one more lifetime. 

Empires are built to fall: it is the inevitable truth. Someday, whatever day it be, regardless of the cause. Empires believe they are eternal, or so the saying goes, and offers the evidence: ruin littering the earth. Yet all recognize the ruin, and the song such empires once hummed haunt the corridors and abandoned archways. Durin’s line broken, Gil-Galad fallen. Elrond passing into memory.

To love is to be remembered, and Elrond carries the memory of Durin’s hearty laugh and the set of his brow over determined eyes and recognizes its bearing in his descendants. Thorin looks little like his late friend but for the same fire in his eyes, the same secrecy and pride. Elrond is tempted to uncover such secrets if only to see whether the same spluttering indignation exists; Elrond misses it. Durin and his kingdom fall, or rather, it shatters into scattered starlight, yet it still remains. In elven memory, and elven kingdoms, shedding its light onto changed, remembering hearts. 

#elrond and durin #elrond peredhel #the rings of power #durin #the rings of power drabble #look the show was...something but i found that if you kinda plug your mental ears to the fact that it's meant to operate on the same #wavelength as the hobbit and lotr and pretend it's something of it's own then you kind of see something enjoyable. #there were a lot of interesting storylines/messages in the subtext or so i discern #anyways elrond and durin's friendship struck me #because it kind of goes past typical enemies become friend/from enemy countries sort of trope. #especially considering durin pushed for mining mithril just cause elrond asked for him to save his race. #“the dwarves were greedy” yeah but the king shut down the mines because they were dangerous and they had no real need of them #so really mithril was mined for the elves AKA: for Elrond's sake #or at least in the show's narrative i have no clue if this is true in the books I'm yet to read the Sil. #which you know still is a beautiful fact: mithril was dug up for the elves/fast forward to Khazad Dum and the Balrog and yeah.. #it struck a heartstring.

feel like pure shit, just want her back

#james talks #riverdale #miss the whole crew really but Betty especially bc Lili was so magnificent #god as perfect as the finale was (and it really was one of the greatest finales ever) i wish we had gotten another season #they had as good a run as a show on that network could hope for but there are few shows on there that eclipsed the network like Riverdale #like the list includes like. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Gossip Girl. and ig The Vampire Diaries. and that's it. #(that list is for shows almost exclusively produced by the CW. CXG DID have other producing companies but it was largely the CW). #no show will ever quite be like Riverdale ever again and no show will ever reach the heights it did. #especially not on their shoestring CW budget. #like honestly i just need more Riverdale in my life. #like RAS and the writing team found such a great way to turn their weaknesses into strengths. #as an article on the show once said [paraphrased]: it was a great show that was really good at pretending to be bad. #even now nobody gets the show like i do. #everyone thinks it's some silly little show about crazy shit with crazy plotlines and pretty lighting and aesthetics but no substance— #when in reality it's an incredible pulpy anti-fascist text questioning the role of authority using those aesthetics for a larger purpose #but i'll save the real analysis for whenever i get around to actually making the Riverdale video essay i need in my life #unless Quinton Reviews or SuperEyepatchWolf beat me to it first. they're the only people who i think will actually understand the show. #like SuperEyepatchWolf's video on the show is already pretty fun even if it's a little dismissive of the substance of the show— #(tbf to him it only covered up until the S05 mid-season finale and S06 hadn't released yet) #but like he at least feels like he gets the spirit of the show. especially with the wrestling comparison. #and i hope i don't need to explain why Quinton would get it. #anyway. i need the Riverdale crew back.

Just saw Kung fu Panda 4.

Well, it was certainly a movie…..

Action was good, music was a banger as always, voice acting was top notch, no surprise there.

That’s all I got positive wise.

#this felt Ike such a film that still needed some work around writing wise #Po felt like he had reverted to his previous character in KFP1 versus how he felt in the 3rd film #at least how that felt to me #and they way they introduce the plot point of him having to renounce his title of dragon warrior and choose a successor felt so sudden #Shifu just tells him ‘’you gotta become a spiritual leader and choose a successor for your previous title’’ JUST OUT OF THE BLUE #He said it was the next step in his journey when it didn’t feel like a natural step. it felt like he was rushing him because…we need a plot #Li and Ping being worried dads and spending time together was entertaining. I did enjoy those two #the chameleon was meh. Viola did a good job voicing her but that’s all I got for her #fucking Tai Lung showed up for like 10 fucking minutes #and half of that time was even him. it was the Chameleon as him #Again shouldn’t be surprised but I kinda wanted to see him more a bit y’know? #have him help Po in the final fight or whatever idk #but yeah film was honestly mid #kfp 4 #kfp4 #kfp4 spoilers #kung fu panda 4
