The place is called Dödafallen - The dead falls, it is a place the water of Dalälven (our river) used to run 7000 years ago. Then it changed it course and left this special place in the nature. The area arround the Dalälven have a beautiful nature with many special nature features.
The predecessor of today's Dalälven was a powerful glacial river, which was formed in the final phase of the last ice age that affected large parts of northern Europe. In addition, 8,200 years ago the earth's crust, pressed down by the ice sheet, had risen so that the higher parts of the Avesta tract came to lie above the surface of the sea (now the Baltic Sea).
Around 7,000 years ago, the waterfalls collapsed, probably in connection with a large spring flood when the river's water masses sought a new, somewhat straighter path, north of the current Getklacken. The geologists believe that the event lasted perhaps less than an hour. Because the Dead Falls had been drained, the river below them also had a new, straighter course. During extremely high spring floods, water still flows in the channel that the river had over 8,000 years ago. The area is accessible to the public via footpaths, wooden bridges and stairs.
A good friend and I. ❤️

we should meet the village that raised Kai and Nya. how else did they learn to take care of themselves? we know they were left alone right around the ages of 8-10, and when we see them in the pilot they're self-sufficient and run a successful business
culture-wise, we're clued in that Ray and Maya are vaguely East Asian, so the reference I'll be using is the traditionally Japanese method of teaching kids independence. here's an overgeneralization:
that kids are taught to clean up after themselves from an early age and by the time their directional skills are OK they are sent on their first errand to (usually) a nearby store or shrine
you may be familiar with the idea from the series Old Enough! filmed in 1991 that showed Japanese kids on their first errands (currently it's on netflix)
brainstorming thread for this post on bluesky
even if we assume they were taught independence from an early age, they can't've known how to proficiently smith weapons or tools. they also have basic education in addition to Nya's knowledge of electrical engineering and welding. they must've had to apprentice under other blacksmiths in addition to going to school.
this would also explain why Kai is so fiercely, often illogically independent in the pilot and first season. he's spent the past decade of his life being helped by others, and he doesn't want to rely on anyone else if he can avoid it. in this new life as a ninja, he thinks, I can be completely independent. I won't have to rely on anyone! and thus begins his character development
let's explore "it takes a village"
farmers always give them their less attractive produce but refuse to take payment, telling the Smith kids that they're doing them a favor by taking the ugly ones. the local schoolhouse never approaches them about tuition.
neighbors by while their kid's taking a nap. they bring lunch or dinner, teach the two how to clean the house, and show them how to make the food they brought. caretakers at the village shrine ask them to help sweep away the leaves on the anniversary of their parent's disappearance. a few friends come by with flowers- it's a coincidence, they say: these wildflowers are just taking over my garden bed- it's no big deal.
electricians and welders in the area always seem to need an extra hand when Nya gets out of school. Kai cleans the blacksmith shop a few towns over and gets paid in an apprenticeship and a permanent stock of firewood and coal during the winter. the ice house happens to have unsellable, broken ice blocks when Nya pops by in the summer.
the two of them know. the village is part of a careful dance, respecting Kai and Nya's independence while acknowledging their need for support. everyone plays a part. yes, toes get stepped on and feelings get hurt, but time rolls on regardless. another person comes in from the sidelines when someone else takes a break.
it is not easy for the Smith kids, not by a long shot, but the people surrounding them make it bearable
as time marches on, their village sees the children they raised save the world dozens of times. occasionally, the Smith kids come back to take care of the shop and check in with everyone after avoiding the latest apocalypse.
without thinking, neighbors hand them a basket of misshapen apples, half a sack of broken rice, and trimmings from the butcher's. by the time each of them make it home, they've noticed their pockets jingling. the dance continues and now they've switched places

Talk about one dinosaur I love more than all the others combined, that's Rudy, my childhood idol, per say xD
Ice Age 3 was my favorite, and I am one of the opinion it should have stopped there, or should give me more Rudy, I would like that, instead Bluesky died and we had nothing else of Rudy 😭

I'm behind updating tumblr again. I'm getting more invested with Threads. I feel like people there have been pretty friendly and responsive. I was thinking about trying out Bluesky website again.
Anywho, I'll have a new youtube vlog video out in the morning. I thought maybe I'd get more done this weekend than I thought. Not just artwise but chore wise. But it rained and there was actually snow/ice out on the mountains in the distance. I just kinda couch-potato'd at home. Didn't even go to the gym this weekend.
I accidentally got promoted again at work. This happens every few months. I have the most experience so I keep getting thrust into this position, I turn it down and somebody else comes in and takes it over and then quits and then I get it again. But I'm trying real hard to maintain my parttime hours. I don't want to be there 5 days a week and I don't want to take a beating from other administrators. I literally just want to be a nurse and go home. I'm counting down the months til I can quit before we move again.
Admittedly, I feel like things are a lot better at work and my girls tell me things are a lot better. I'm ok with delegating tasks to my staff members and everybody is extremely flexible and helpful to one another. My elderly age is getting immune to doctors screaming at me. I think this last girl who was hired into this management position may be on her way out but right now she's just stepped down but apparently still wants to work. I really really like her and I really really want her to stay, even as just regular staff.
My husband should be coming home within the next several weeks, I just dont know when. Theres some sort of "town hall meeting" in some odd days and I'm assuming Ill get those details then. Ofcourse, they like to do these meetings at awkward times.
Theres some places on this end of the country I'd like to see before we move because its probably unlikely we'll return to this end ever again.
Otherwise, as stated on my other social medias, I am back in my Final Fantasy 7 obsessive phase. I am super excited for the part2 remake to come out but I cant play it til my spouse gets home. I keep writing an entire thesis sized paper about the importance of this game to siblings and I but then I keep deleting it.
when my spouse gets home, I am doing a full power point presentation to catch him up (because he isnt a gamer) and I want a FF inspired meal! Also, I never played the Yuffie DLC....

Seeing everyone try to flock to completely different sites after the twitter collapse is making me feel like an elder during the Ice Age who knows he's not gonna make the next migration.
Everyone's screaming about Cohost or BlueSky or Instagram while I'm just sitting here like
"My bones are too old. I cannot scatter myself far enough and I will be leaving too much behind. I think I will simply hole up where I can and greet the incoming glacier like you would an old friend."

So for some reason my brain really wanted me to rewatch the first three Ice Age movies (I'm not going past 3 because I heard 4 and 5 are pretty much unnecessary + I didn't watch them as a kid so I have no nostalgia bait to yoink me in) and man, I forgot how much Scrat made me laugh as a kid.
I should watch the last short Bluesky did where he finally gets his acorn at one point.

Meghan Markle podcast -- Part Deux
"If you don't succeed, try, try again" is a familiar maxim for those who screwed up the first time.
The podcast network, Lemonada, is taking a chance on a second chance. The network just announced a new creative partnership with Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex. As part of their new deal, Lemonada will distribute the first season of the award-winning “Archetypes” for all audio platforms and also develop a new original podcast series as yet untitled hosted by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.
In 2020, Spotify had announced a $20 million podcast deal with Markle. Although the podcast Markle produced and hosted, Archetypes, was generally well-received, Spotify abruptly canceled the deal last year when it discovered to its surprise that its "We will conquer the podcast universe by throwing money at it" strategy failed.
Archetypes has seen over 10 million downloads, averaging nearly a million listens per episode, and debuted as Spotify’s No.1 podcast in 47 countries around the world.
No word yet on guests, but Archetypes didn't have a problem attracting big-name guests, from Serena Williams to Mariah Carey.

Canada's Finest Podcast Newsletter -- Pod The North
I think it must suck a lot to be America's neighbor. Overlooked, misunderstood, and patronized, Canadians actually do have their own media universe.
We have Canada to thank for Rachel McAdams, Celine Dion, Michael J. Fox, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, and many others. Can we return Elon Musk for a full refund?
And guess what, America? Canada is kicking our ass in all kinds of podcast engagement,
Did you know that 71% of Canadians have listened to at least one podcast at some point, and 29% of Canada’s monthly podcast listeners spend at least five hours per week listening to podcasts?
Revenue from podcast advertising is expected to reach $127.1 million in Canada in 2023, and brands have seen 89% higher brand awareness after advertising on podcasts. Even more impressive, 51% of bi-weekly podcast listeners have bought a product after hearing about it on a podcast.
And the future is bright for Canadian podcasters because 42% of Canadian monthly podcast listeners are aged 18 to 34 years old, so they'll be around listening for a long time.
If you're interested in podcasting in Canada, be sure to check out the Pod The North Substack newsletter by Kattie Laur.
Pod the North is a free, biweekly newsletter aimed at uplifting the Canadian podcast ecosystem and fostering community. In each issue, you’ll find ecosystem commentary (to keep you in the loop), podcast recommendations, opportunities for your podcast ($$$ and notoriety!), and digestible interviews with Canadian podcasters who you need to know about.
Kattie Laur is an Award-Winning Freelance Podcast Producer, Consultant, and Writer based in the Greater Toronto Area. Last October, Kattie hosted a live anniversary celebration of Pod the North in Toronto. I'm sure they'll be more live events to come.
You can reach Kattie: @Podkatt (Twitter, Spotify, and Goodpods) | @ PodtheNorth (Bluesky)
Here's an example of a Pod The North story.
"In a press release that came out this morning, Canadaland has announced the launch of CanadaLabs,a hub for the next generation of audio journalists, open calls for short audio stories from across Canada, and applications to become Canadaland’s first Audio Journalism Fellows."
Check out Pod the North if you're a Canadian podcast fan, or an American who realizes that Canada has more to offer than ice hockey, Banff, and maple syrup.

Guidelines for Augmented Reality in Ads just released
For many, I'm sure this announcement is filed in the "I don't give a s**t" category.
But we should care, because guidelines on the use of any new technology is critically important. Look what happened when we left social media to do whatever the f***k it wanted. We got Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, trolls, Nazis, Chinese bots, "Fakebook," the conspiracy theory of the day, and Donald Trump midnight rage messages.
So here's what is going on.
In collaboration, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and Media Rating Council (MRC) have released their Augmented Reality (AR) Measurement Guidelines to establish clear and consistent definitions and measurement guidelines for ads within Augmented Reality campaigns. The guidelines are open for public comment for a 30-day period until March 9th, 2024.
The IAB AR Measurement Guidelines Task Force, working with MRC, set forth guidelines for advertisers and marketers to quantify how much media is delivered and gauge how well their media achieved their business objectives within AR media campaigns.
“Brands are increasingly utilizing AR in their media campaigns to connect with consumers in more meaningful and immersive ways,” said Zoe Soon, VP, Experience Center, IAB. “The Augmented Reality advertising market is projected to generate $1.2 Billion in revenue in the U.S. this year. Thus, as an industry, we need to establish a greater consistency on how we define and measure AR advertising to foster fairness and transparency for buyers and sellers.”
To effectively capture the impact of AR campaigns, these guidelines set a framework to establish clear and consistent definitions for ad delivery, viewability, audience, engagement, and performance. The guidelines are inclusive of AR’s interactive and immersive formats, as AR can accrue non-physical interactions with products as well as the physical interactions related to browsing in the context of attribution.
Did you get all that? Good. Now, can you explain it to me.

green, tea, pea ^^
green: Whats your favourite way to spend your day off?
generally I'm always looking to use my free time to play games as much as possible, so it's actually... everything but that! I like taking the occasional holiday to watch a movie or two by myself or booking in advance to go shopping or eating outside :) nothing too big or with too many people though, or I'll get more tired than I was before...
tea: top favourite movies growing up?
my sister and I grew up on 3D animated movies. sure, kids movies in general, but something about pixar, most of dreamworks' movies and bluesky got our attention much more, to the point where there is not a single day my parents and my sister won't make some kind of reference to those movies (and I probably do without noticing too). but anyway. Toy Story 1 and 2, Finding Nemo (first movie I ever watched!!!), Robots, Shrek 2 and the Third, The Incredibles, Cars, Bug's Life, Monsters Inc., Surf's Up, Ice Age 2 and 3, Madagascar 1 and 2, Hoodwinked... Yeah that's probably enough movies. These were so fundamental to us growing up that I genuinely think there's a double digit percent of what constitutes my personality that requires these movies to be understood.
pea: whats a plant you really like?
well... I've talked about my favorite flower before... I like cacti! they're very cute. I'm also really fond of staring at trees, but I can't name you a single one. it's a very distant brand of admiration.

Seriously considering Bluesky now
For a while now, I've been observing what I call the Twitter Exodus, watching the "goodbye" tweets to see what everyone is jumping to. Bluesky seems to be what most people have settled on (which I find hard to take seriously because... how can you just rip off the creators of Ice Age and get away with it? Threads at least had a somewhat original name!) Many people have pre-emptively identified their last straw as Twitter becoming a wholly paid service -- i.e.: tweet button becoming disabled because you haven't paid your membership fee. This happened yesterday in The Philippines and New Zealand, which I can only guess were chosen as guinea pigs for being a very poor and a very rich country, respectively. The stated reason: “It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,” says Musk. Not to again draw comparisons with Facebook, but when they rolled out a similar test trying to control disinformation during the 2016 election, they chose Mumbai and Westphalia, if memory serves; not whole countries! I had been reticent to jump on Bluesky because, as you can tell, I have trouble handling the social media accounts I already have! They all work slightly differently: on Twitter, replying to a tweet means the algorithm won't even bother with what you said; but Tumblr, reblogging to continue the thread-equivalent is just common courtesy; while on Instagram, there's just no such thing! FA has-built in prev and next buttons for this purpose while DA seems to expect you to create a new gallery for every storyline (but since they also don't allow gallery folders, practically no one does it!) Reddit wants self-contained posts that fit its subreddits (so linking to the last page in the series is a no-no, readers will just have to remember it) and no one uses Ko-fi as social media seriously. Not to mention that making my old art internet-ready (which is what I'm doing to bring my instagram "up to date") feels like a chore. But most of all, the crushing realization that Mastodon doesn't have Quote Retweets (or rather, that the servers that have them are few and far between) was horrible for me. At my last count, anything on Twitter gets buried after about 10 minutes, and people usually scroll through Twitter for about 30 at a time. My work around has been scheduled Quote Retweets 5 times a day (approximately the times most people are online). Not having it on Mastodon hasn't turned out to be that big a problem since Toots seem to "live" a few hours, like in Ye Olde Twitter. But I fear that, with all the people who say they've "moved to Bluesky", I'll have the same problem... but with no solution this time.

ice age buck teaser dropped. rant below.
I am SEETHING with rage you know Crash & Eddie get the same opening to how Diego & Sid felt in DotD?? they go off on their own and stumble into dinoworld. but wHY they're a family and most importantly a HERD HELLO??? they stick together???? I thought we established this in 3???? if they want to go on an adventure it doesn't have to be big and grand they deserve to take something chill once in a while
I LOVE Buck I LOVE Simon Pegg but this my god Disney I'm going to bite off your ears, rip off your fingers and carve out your guts so you can understand how I feel about milking this franchise in such a tired and predictable way
I'm only like 19 seconds in this teaser I fucking hate how Ellie's model looks what the FUCK did you do to her you MASSACRED MY GIRL
AND ANOTHER THING. I consider the 5th movie uncanon (or at least I'm living in a rewritten version of it in my head) and I actually quite like Continental Drift but like?????? THE ORIGINAL LAND THEY LIVED ON WAS WHERE THE LOST WORLD OF THE DINOSAURS ARE. granted we don't know how far the hollow earth extends but you know what would be neat?? if the dinosaurs STAYED LOST and so did BUCK. I love him, he's very dear to me, and would really prefer him as a one time character, because that's what makes him so great! this short film or miniseries or spin off show or whatever the fuck if it wanted to be based around Buck you could've done a prequel of his life. how he ended up there. where he came from. how he managed to survive. what he went through to be the Buck we knew in DotD. and sure we have a backstory but hey! you wanted to keep the ice cool and profit off of it right? fuck you.
Buck could've gotten his own solo series separated from before he met the herd. I'm so full of hatred and spite rn I can't think straight.
I'm still not done watching the teaser hahagdjk hol up—
GOD THE MODELS ARE SO WEIRD I CAN'T DO THIS WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE VOICE ACTING..............
I do like how adventurous and action packed this is but y'know. you could've done that without relying on Crash & Eddie's flanderized personalities for "humour". Buck is funny. and lonely. and that crippling loneliness and isolation apart from certain death messed with his head for years. Crash & Eddie were great characters and the franchise butchered them. my mischief making boys. I'm so sorry they did this to you.
