tagging all talk about this "the hellsing archives" :o3

but UMMMH more about walter in this au. urm. like i said before, instead of being a butler he's an archival assistant who also aids in supplying tha with any necessary materials

instead of suddenly disappearing from hellsing he would've progressively become more hostile around them, starting with simply losing his patience faster than normal and escalating to unprovoked physical attacks and incoherent angry rants. (that one meme that goes "me: hi grandpa / grandpa: the war / me: ok")

they can't really do anything about it since walter wont tell them what happened and refusing any treatment. at most he'll apologize and lament about he doesn't know what's happening to him. they can't just keep him around so they like. idk. shoo him off and put him on leave or something idk i dont have a job

in the fight against alucard he would stand no fucking chance unless he became an avatar so thats what i'm thinking happened while he was away. completely lost his shit, the entity now feeds on his actions rather than on him. while on his leave he managed to kill several people via strangulation with some kind of wire (ha ha see what i did hee hee im so clever). when they inevitably cross paths he's a husk of a human who can hardly form coherent sentences. im considering that he stole some kind of instrument to play music and further spread the slaughter's influence but i dont think its very scary to see some guy with bagpipes or drums playing angrily (until the guy next to u starts giving u funny looks ig),, but that would explain the wires if they're piano wires

i lied a little. his design post-slaughter wouldn't be THAT cool,, but i want to take some artistic liberties w/ how the slaughter is portrayed on an individual. he'll still look human but with dilated pupils reminiscent of a rabid animal :o3 thats the only animal motif i'll add though since thats more of a the hunt thing

HIII NON SP FAN ANON HERE OK SO first of all sorry for the long ask SECOND OF ALL me and pp anon are in a theatre class together and were doing a final project which is pretty much free choice (theyre doing improv i think) and i decide to write a script so pp was like "make it gregstophe" and i was like ok!! but also like tma brainrot so jon and martin are there. actually its more like jmart play ft. gregstophe bc they come in like halfway during the first scene but ANYWAYS im gonna tell you the plot.

ok so basically martin beats some mf to death bc they were being mean to his little meow meow (jon (also i just remembered i changed jons name to john to make it a little less obvious)) and johns like wtf. stop it. and they almost get into an argument but then johns like we gotta clean this up. and thats when gregory and christophe stroll in and r like we can do that! pay up and jons like ok and thats the end of the first scene!! and rn im working on scene 2 with just gregstophe and martin discussing john!!!

also idk if its obvious but i am a firm believer in jon not john. idc ab the transcripts their full name is JONATHAN NOT JOHNATHAN !! (jonny has a valid reason tho so good for him)

I can’t speak much on the tma terminology or character comparisons (but I wholeheartedly trust you as someone who is clearly passionate about it). however, on the subject of Gregory and Christophe as mercenaries:

in the movie, Gregory is initially the one who is supposed to go free Terrance and Phillip (two political prisoners who are about to be publicly executed). however, Stan insists that he go instead so Gregory tells him he has to go and request the services of a mercenary named “The Mole”. when he meets Stan and his gang, Christophe only calms down once they mention they were sent by “that Gregory kid”. this seems to imply that Christophe is probably often hired by Gregory to do mercenary work. “mercenary work” is such a broad term though, bc it could mean literally anything so long as Christophe is paid for it. however, since Gregory is such a political revolutionary (and Christophe specifically says “viva la resistance”), fans have tended to have them working against corrupt governments or corporations. often in the form of assassinations and breaking into compounds.

hopefully that bit of information is helpful for you! again, I wish you the best of luck in continuing to write your script and with making art 👀 imo the true secret to making art is that art styles only exist in so much as that you find what works best at the moment. art styles change and that’s a good thing! unless you’re doing a webcomic I don’t think you necessarily need to find a “consistent” style (and even then it’s totally not required) ☺️

*sigh* rn i'm in that uncomfortable place in which i'm upset about the ending of F2 but I also don't want to complain about it. There's a reason i have "not particularly interested in F2 negativity" in my bio, and it's because I fucking hate it when people complain about this movie. This isn't to say I don't think people have the right to complain or be upset or even that I disagree with them. It just really gets me down. Thats why I've blocked a bunch of users who didn't even do anything wrong. Because every time someone says F2 was a terrible movie that ruined everything for them i feel like i'm being shot in the face. Idk why i have such a strong reaction to negative criticism of the movie when I have problems with it too. I guess it's because I want to keep the parts I liked and forget about the parts I didn't. And is that a bad way to consume media? I mean, the whole point of fandom is to have fun. Feeling angry and bitter all the time doesn't sound like my idea of fun, so I try to keep those feelings for things that actually matter. I'd rather be angry about, say, racism, than over a poorly writen character arc.

But also... Idk I still feel a bit upset about the separation. And i'm trying my best not to dwell on the frustration but come on, the whole point of the first movie was the reconnection between the two separated sisters. You can't have them separate at the end! And yes! this is just a kid's movie and it's not something worth getting angry over! But ugh i'm still frustrated. I guess the next step is to come to terms with the ending? Learn to accept it? I mean its not like I can change it other than with fanfic so to waste my energy on being angry would be useless. It wouldn't make me feel better at all.

I mean, the movie makes sure to show us how easy it is for the girls to see each other again. It was never made explicit Elsa left Arendelle forever. For all we know, she spends just as much time in the forest as she does in Arendelle. For all we know she's just talking a leap year to figure herself out. Thats a just as plausible an explanation as "Elsa left Arendelle forever" is. But i have to admit, that does feel a bit like wistful thinking. I guess i could take comfort in the fact that both girls have individually found their place. Their new roles fit them like a glove. Elsa is clearly the most free and authentic she's ever been, and Anna will be perfect as Queen. But that's not what has me upset. What has me upset is the fact that, after being apart for 13 years, they're once again separated. It feels unfair. Aaaand I'm already getting myself down. Great. They're not only separated, but they have formed individual paths, independant of each other. While the best part of the first movie and the shorts was their relationship, the second movie focuses on the individual aspects of their respective character arcs. I don't think this is necessarialy a bad thing, but I personally don't like it. It makes their bond feel secondary to the story, unimportant. And maybe, that's the key to find acceptance? To just, relax, aknowledge it's just a movie. They're clearly happy where they are right now. It's a happy ending. It's not that big of a deal that they're separated. Family members go on their separate paths all the time! And while that's a perfectly valid way to relate to the ending, I don't think is the one right for me. I don't know. Their relationship is simply too important to me. So I guess my other option is to convince myself they're not as separate as it seems. Is that wistful thinking? Probably. Is it gonna make me feel better? Hopefully. And I guess that makes it an efficient solution. I'm not ranting or venting. I'm thinking out loud trying to solve a problem. So, is that my conclussion? That what Elsa has going on is more of a full-time job? I mean the movie does say the girls are working together to maintain peace, communication and balance. It would only make sense for them to you know work together. Hold professional meetings. Exchange information. Travel together to places where they're needed. Share a job. Spend lots of time together. I mean look at the five rulers of Arendelle we've met so far: it's clear being monarch of this City State is basically being the local Witcher. You get to be sent to deal with whatever supernatural phenomena is going on atm (argument against the idea that Anna is trapped in the body of an old lady doing paperwork. Have YOU ever seen Elsa do paperwork?? What makes a you think that's what Anna is gonna be doing?). I like the idea of Anna and Elsa sharing a job, a mission, even if they dont share a house. I have to admit, this was told rather than shown, but introducing a whole new conflict in the last 5 minutes of the film when you don't know if you'll end up making a third movie just to show the sisters being witchers TOGETHER wouldn't have been a good idea. I do think this is how a hypothetical F3 should be: show them spending just as much together as they do apart if not more, probably show them sleeping over a lot (Elsa having a lavvu/goahti in the north that she shares with Anna, with very evident home decor that SCREAMS "Anna spends half of her time here too" would be a nice way to do it). And considering the claim that they're working together is the only thing saving this ending for me, I really hope the writers commit to it. If they've just been named the Avatar protectors of peace blah blah blah they BETTER have some conflict threaten this peace so they have something to defend. something to work together with. Show us they're still together. I have faith in you. Do not disappoint me.

A perfect ending F3 would obviously, end with the girls together for good, but taking advantage of the separation on F2. Rather than shamefully sweeping it under the rug, do something beautiful with it. Use it as a starting point. Don't just "fix it". Work with it. Prove to us than it was necessary, ultimately good and worth it.

Until then, I guess I'll continue with my wistful thinking and my optimism, and maintain my position when I say the girls are still together, sharing a mission and working as equals.

I have a great idea for a Legend of Korra fanfic, need some feedback and general ideas

Ok, so, i've recently been on an Avatar roll after rewatching ATLA with some friends and watching Lily Peet's video essay on why LOK was bad (it's a great video, i dont necessarily agree with him on everything but he has some great points). I was about to go to sleep the other day when i stumbled upon a video by uniquenamesaurus about making an avatar show where the avatar is the bad guy of the story, and then i had the most awesome idea i've ever had when it comes to fanfics (not that i get that many, but this is legit the first one where i want to sit down and actually write the damn thing)

This is the basic idea:

Seasons 1 through 4 of LOK still happen, everything stays the same until the last two episodes of Book 4, where the fight between Kuvira and Korra ends very differently. Instead of Korra winning the fight aboard the cockpit of the collosus, she loses, and Kuvira kills her (dont know how, just roll with me here, this isnt the part i really like). Without the Avatar the Republic City resistance loses all hope and leadership and scatters, taking severe losses in the form of Tenzin, Lin, Suyin and Mako. The survivors of the battle flee to the Air Nation, where they can't do anything except watch as Kuvira accomplishes her goal of completely unifying the Earth Empire. To everyone's surprise, Kuvira does not pursue further war against the other nations, and instead focuses on managing her empire and establishes a truce with the other nations (basically a "you dont mess with me, i dont mess with you" kind of deal). The Air Nation and the Southern Water Tribe (both understandably pissed at the Earth Empire for murdering the Avatar and also the de facto leader the air nomads) refuse to deal with the empire and essentially boycott them from everything, while the Fire Nation and the Northern Water tribe remain neutral in the conflict and have good (if a bit tense) relations with the earth empire.

Jump 15 years into the future, where Kuvira has proven that the unified Earth Empire is a force to be reckoned with, they're the most prosperous nation in the world as well as the most technologically advance. The populace of the Earth Empire live in a more egalitarian society, and their lives are demonstrably better now that the earth monarchy has been abolished, but economic factors aside, the empire sees severe discrimination of people from the fire nation, as the wounds of the Hundred Year war and the Harmony Restoration movement are exploited by Kuvira to keep the support of the people. The Air Nation (having opposed the unification of the empire) as well is treated with denigration and accused of being anti-empire conspirators. Anyone who opposes Kuvira's rule is treated to a trip to the prison camps, where they're used as part of the work force of the empire or are straight up executed; but thanks to the economic boom that the unification brought and the near idilic safety that the empire provided, Kuvira is seen as a larger than life figure, on par with what Fire Lord Sozin was to the Fire Nation pre-Zuko (think of George Washington or Simon Bolivar).

Kuvira knows that the next Avatar in the cycle will appear in the Earth Empire, and she spends the next seven years after Korra's death looking for him (or her, idk yet) until she finally finds him (i dont know what name to call him, i do know it'd be cool to have a Lava-bending Avatar, i think metalbending has gotten all the expansion it needed). Kuvira understands that having the Avatar on her side would be a huge military and strategic advantage, but since the last Avatar was very much opposed to the empire, the populace has a very deep hatred of the Avatar (think of Ching the conqueror and Kyoshi), she takes the boy/girl in as her protegé/adopted child and personally trains him/her, raising him/her to believe that the Earth Empire's claim to Republic City was justified and moral, and generally indoctrinating him to be staunchly in support for the Earth empire; this new avatar doesnt know that he's avatar until his fifteenth birthday, when Kuvira finally reveals him to the world and becomes the center of attention once again, drawing the ire of the chief of the southern water tribe (Korra's father), who views this as a sign that Kuvira will start expanding once again, using his daughter (kinda) as a weapon. He tries to carry out an assasination attempt on Kuvira but the avatar stops him, and he's executed by Kuvira in a public broadcast; the Earth Empire oficially declares war on the Southern Water Tribe and the Avatar, for the first time ever, is used as a weapon in a war.

The remaining plot of the story would focus on how the avatar initially believes the Earth Empire is a force of good, but slowly learns in the war against the water tribe that he's on the wrong side. With a focus on him connecting with Korra and the characters of LOK and learning that Kuvira was in fact wrong, and manipulated him the entire time. Kuvira would be the main antagonist of the story, and the whole thing would be much more focused on the politics of this radically changed world, the complicated relation that the world now has with this new avatar (who is hated by the Earth Empire for eing a reincarnation of Korra, but simultaneously hated by the world for being in support of the empire) and the avatar learning his place and duty as this figure (Kuvira would be explored much more in depth in the story, and this complicated relationship that she has with the new avatar could have some really good emotional beats too, since her ruthlesness would clash against the fact that she's essentially fighting her own child, and as for the avatar it would give him a really layered conflict with her; again mixed emotions, he hates her for manipulating him but cant quite bring himself to kill her because she's been his mother figure for a good part of his life)

So that's my main idea, i'd love to see what kinf of feedback i get on this, since its an idea that i REALLY like. What kinds of challenges would writing such a thing bring? What should i explore with the MC and Kuvira, and heck even the legacy characters? I just want to develop this idea really well

Weather Wizard

this boy can make the sunniest day instantly cloudy and dark if he’s in a bad mood

when he cries, it rains with flashing lightning and thunder that shakes the ground

overall, donT MAKE HIM UPSET

he will either strike lightning down on your ass or have a storm cloud follow you for a week

one time after he fought with Jefferson, he manipulated the static electricity so his hair was frizzy

Thomas nearly killed him for it

When he first discovered his powers, he set off a hurricane

he and his brother were fighting pretty bad to the point that’s what set Alex off

poor Alex couldnt control it, it was like a giant burst of energy exploded inside of him

it destroyed the entire town killing hundreds

he could hardly forgive himself after knowing this uncontrollable thing inside himself caused it

everyone hated him once his secret powers were exposed

there were riots and it all got pretty dangerous until he was finally able to be transported to Flilria Magic Academy

Very bisexual and very flirty

when he first met Angelica, the ice witch nearly froze his face off for flirting with her

(John still laughs his ass off at that fact)

even after that he made the mistake of thinking dirtily about John Andre when the man could literally read every thought

(again, John still laughs)

but despite all that, Alexander still shamelessly flirts with Laurens and usually is very protective of him

Defiant as fuck

on his first day of attending Flilria, he got sent down to Headmaster Washington’s office at least 6 times

part of it was because he nearly talked Professor Seabury out of his own classroom

another part was because he was veryyy close to kicking James Reynolds into the next fucking dimension for abusing Maria and degrading Hercules and Laf

John:

Potions Wizard

this freckled cutie is a total geek when it comes to potions and spells

he can create any potion knowing the ingredients and chants no matter what, like the information was already in his brain

he can also turn water into poison if he tried hard enough

when he first learned he could this kind of stuff, he accidentally poisoned one of his classmates from the human world and had to run away - again

HeS BEEN/GOING THROUGH SO MUCH PLEASE PROTECT HIM

his biological dad - whom no one ever speaks of (and surprisingly isn’t Henry hehe) - abused him both physically and emotionally

John was blamed for his mothers death when she died from the birth

his dad took his anger and grief out on him, cursing him so every full moon he turns into a hideous beast and so that his kiss was poisonous

when he was old enough, John ran away

for a while he lived on the streets with almost nothing to live on

it wasn’t until he was taken in by the Laurens’s did he know a little bit of compassion

but in John’s experience, everything good has its end

Henry had slapped him across the face and beat him black and blue for accidentally knocking over a very antique and expensive family heirloom

he ran and never looked back

even after being taken into Flilria Academy, he has a hard time

people bully him because he isn’t that powerful

(in which Alex tells them to fuck off unless they want a foot where the sun don’t shine)

he has a hard time dealing with his ability because it just reminds him of his powerful and dark biological father

John could never press his lips against someone’s skin, for the person would die

its intention is to prevent John from ever falling in love (but boy oh boy that didn’t stop him)

to add to it, the curse prevents him from ever speaking of it to anyone

it kinda cuts off his words and leaves him speechless for a moment

the curse itself acts as a live darkness that can take over his body and mind or cause him pain if it senses something it doesn’t like

not even magic can cure the curse...

Alex has tried too many times to count

Loves Alexander despite the damn curse

he can be shy about it but is generally very open about his affections for the other boy

but he always has mini heart attacks whenever his lips get too close to Alex’s skin

there was one time where they nearly kissed

John avoided Alex for a week after, terrified of killing his love and best friend

he often helps him with tests and stuff when it’s based on potions and all that hoopla

it’s all very cute and fluffy, but can be a big danger

Hercules:

Earth Wizard

this boy can pick up boulders and bend metal wiTH HIS MIND

(i kinda based his powers off of Avatar oops)

he can also do crazy natural disaster stuff like earthquakes

super damn powerful but literally the sweetest boy ever

in addition, he can spawn cute lil flowers and other earthy things

(he likes to put the flowers in Laf’s hair)

He caused a devastating earthquake when he first tapped into his abilities

it killed his family and nearly everything around him for miles was in ruins

nobody was able to pinpoint the cause so Herc was shoved around like every other orphan

that was until he was teleported to the magic school where he first met Lafayette - his roommate

He was selectively mute for a very long time because of the after effects of the earthquake

it left him traumatized

he was speechless for a very long time, occasionally learning ASL words to ask Laf for something

Laf was always there, teaching him new sign language and talking to him even though there was no reply

Laf was just generally okay with it and both supported and defended Herc through it all

this went on until one day Lafayette was rambling on about not having a Moon Stone for his collection

Herc had perked up and gotten up from where he was sitting. It took a bit to find it, but when he did he gave the Moon Stone he had to Laf with a small smile as two words passed his lips. “Keep it.”

(Laf made it into a necklace and wears it everyday)

That was the first time he had spoken since the earthquake

Please love and respec and protec

for a while, Herc would only ever talk to Laf

it would progress from quiet one worded responses to whispered sentences to full conversations

but even though he talks to Laf doesn’t mean he talks to everyone

he’s still trying to get passed his barriers and talking to others but most times it comes out in stutters and broken whispers

he has really bad anxiety but still tries

most times Laf has to stand up for him because others use his struggles against him

He’s scared of his powers

no lying, he’s one of the most powerful kids in the school

but because of the earthquake and avoiding his powers, he doesn’t know how to control it

it’s very hard for him to do big things at a time because he’s terrified if he pushes the limits he has set, he’ll hurt someone

it all comes down to his bad anxiety but he does try if he’s encouraged

sometimes the encouragement can be someone messing with Laf

he learned he could bend metal from that one time someone called them a homophobic slur and he lost all sense of control

it still scares him though when he tries new things

Lafayette:

Animal Wizard

this pure boy can talk to animals

even though he can do this though, he sometimes has trouble understanding certain animal dialects

it’s kinda like how people can’t understand a different language if we don’t study it

he can also sometimes compel them if he has to but he hates it

He haS A BADASS PET DRAGON

he found the dragon egg under a giant willow tree

after carefully watching over it and keeping it safe, it hatched and out came a little black and blue scaled dragon he’d name Saule

(Saule translates to Willow in french)

Laf would soon learn that he and Saule established an unbreakable bond after she was born where they can speak telepathically and feel each other’s emotions

now as she’s basically a teenager in dragon years, Saule’s the sassiest lil shit ever

she always teases him about his giant crush on Hercules

oH and she breathes electricity rather than fire which is pretty cool

at this point, she’d be about the size of a very large dog

essentially, she’s like Lafayette’s sister and will do anything and everything she can to protect him

Fun fact; he was one of the first students at Flilria

he was very young when he learned of his abilities

his family had gotten into a car accident that got his mother killed and he unconsciously called out to a family of bears that took him from away the incident

when little Laf finally got to Flilria, good ol’ Gwash became like a father to him

in other words, they’re very close

Very much likes Hercules

that is all

he just likes him

a lot

he will protect him and love him

it’s very cute and domestic and not angsty and goD I LOVE MULLETTE LET ME LIVE

For ATLA:

Character I first fell in love with: Uhhh Katara probably

Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: maybe Sokka, but tbh i dunno? Going into Avatar, the only thing I knew was “the series is really really good, go watch it” and that it had pretty animation, so…by the time I formed opinions on the characters, I was already invested. I dont really remember what I was expecting going into it. Sokka’s “trope”/1-dimensional description sounds like a character I may or may not be fond of (between the half-assed misogyny plot at the beginning of the series and the fact that I usually dont like comic reliefs) but he’s actually pretty funny and I like smart comic reliefs 1000x more than stupid comic reliefs, so… I really dont know.

Character everyone loves but I don’t: I’ve never been as fond of Zuko and Toph as the original three, so I guess Zuko since he’s a fan favorite, but like…I still love Toph and Zuko too

Character I love but everyone else hates: Does anyone hate any characters in ATLA?? well besides like Ozai but I hate him too. Idk, I like Azula, but in a love-to-hate kind of way and a lot of the fandom views her similarly.

Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Again, idk? I dont think there’s a single character that I’ve fallen out of love with or liked less at the end of the series than at the beginning.

Character I would kiss: AANG NEEDS A HUG

Character I want to slap: OZAI

A pairing I love: I dont really love any of the pairings in atla though. Sokka and Zuko sounds hilarious though; normally i dont like loud characters being paired with quiet characters (evident by the thing I said about BBRae in the last of these asks lol) but the funny thing is that Sokka and Zuko is the louder one is the one that gets overwhelmed + is a stick in the mud. 10/10 lots of potential

A pairing I hate: Never been a huge fan of Zutara, but I really dont have anything against it and I hate when people call it abusive. For whatever reason people pin it as “abusive” (namely the scene where he betrays the gang, but specifically hurts Katara since Katara was bonding with him) would apply to their friendship as well and their friendship is canonical. So either you’re saying the show encourages an abusive platonic relationship or you cant call Zutara abusive. I just never liked their chemistry that much personally. Ironically enough though I’ve gotten even more neutral on Zutara than I was to begin with. //shrugs//

For LOK:

Character I first fell in love with: Probably Tenzin? I remember thinking throughout the show that he was an extremely well-written adult character. That or Lin because //laughs into the abyss// god i love her face in the first (or second? cant remember) episode where she says she’s going to watch Korra

Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Tbh Asami?? Pretty much all of the characters I ended up loving more than I should (Tenzin and Korra namely) but I started liking Asami a lot more quite a long time after I watched the series for the first time.

Character everyone loves but I don’t: Mako or Bolin. I want to like them and during my first watching of the series I did, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized what dull characters they were. There was an attempt to give them some development with their family and stuff but while that was nice, I dont think it explored enough of how their parents’ deaths affected them and there was basically no other development to back up the few times they brought up their family. Asami’s father actually affected her at least sometimes. Also I’m biased because I have an aesthetic squish on Asami now, she’s so pretty… Asami also isn’t a less developed version of a character from the original ATLA so.

Character I love but everyone else hates: I dont think anyone hates Tenzin but I really like Tenzin, probably a lot more than other people do. I also really like the tidbit of Aang not being the best father, if that counts, but even I admit that there’s problems with how Katara fits into that equation.

Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Mako and Bolin, for reasons I mentioned above.

Character I would kiss: …………Asami…….I know the other ones were all just comfort platonic kisses bUT IF I /HAD/ TO PICK A FICTIONAL CHARACTER, ASAMI WOULD BE UP THERE HOOBOY I’d give her a comfort hug too though tbh

Character I want to slap: Tenzin’s fart-faced kid or Aang for being a dinkle

A pairing I love: KORRASAMI

A pairing I hate: The entire canonical love triangle is bad, real bad, one of the worst I’ve seen. Not the worst I’ve seen though, scarily enough. This does extend to Bolin x Korra but if Bolin was a better sport about being rejected I would be much nicer to their ship, but he wasn’t so screw that ship too. Also I guess I should give my usual “its not abusive please dont say it is” but 1. I havent seen anyone calling their ships abusive, yeah ive seen it for the others and wheezes please stop, and 2. the show actually did them and did them BADLY so screw the love triangle. At least it ended with the two corners of the love triangle getting together though, that’s such a fucking good resolution to a love triangle i s2g

okay so i usually dont dream/remember my dreams and of course last night i remember what i assume is the later half of my dream

and of course this one is all kinds of crazy. im still confused. how can you put a child lock on a car so it can only go 65 mph. what is glitterball. this is going to haunt me for the rest of my life

dont read if you want to keep your sanity intact. (tl;dr: i hosted the weirdest house party, cars come capped at one speed, tyler hoechlin was our responsible adult of the night, everything seemed so unrealistic but totally shit we’d do. i think im going crazy.)

it goes like this:

for some reason im driving this dark blue fiat but it had a child lock on the gas. it was literally impossible for the car to go anything but 65. not any faster, not any slower, and if you held your foot down long enough you might get to 66.

so im driving to my grandmother’s house, and pull up in the driveway, and when i get out my dad tells me that he hired a babysitter to make sure things don’t spiral out of control. apparently i’m throwing a house party, except the house looks like my grandmother’s, but is actually my parent’s and the inside is a weird fusion of my grandmother’s home, a friend’s home, and the valley fair mall if any of you know what that looks like.

the babysitter gave me the evil eye when i went inside, and told me that just because there were 15+ teens in the house doesnt mean we can go wild and skip bedtime. she looked like this little crotchety old blonde lady, like the kind you’d get for a sub in highschool that just hates any and all teenagers and stress knits.

i didn’t see anyone when i actually went into the house, aside from a comically large escalator and doorways and thirty or so pizza boxes in the kitchen. some still have pizza in them, but no one knows which boxes. my fiat was in the middle of the living room. the babysitter had a shotgun and told me that she’d use it if we got too raunchy. tyler hoechlin was sitting in an armchair. he complimented my car.

for some odd reason the halls and doorways were all the size of one car, so you could drive in the hallways. the fiat still had the child lock, so i just drove around the hallways at 66mph until i accidentally hit someone, that turned out to be one of my friends, who was riding a horse. somehow he was fine and uninjured, as was his horse. he refused to answer to anything except napoleon, which doesn’t make sense because that friend isn’t short.

idk how but somehow i’m in a different room, the horse is on top of my car, and all of us are trying to do as much irresponsible shit that we could get away with before getting caught by the babysitter, like drinking copious amounts of alcohol and having indoor paintball tournaments. time is a social construct inside the house and doesn’t exist, which we’re all fine with.

and then i drove down a hallway and then a door opened, which the car hit at 66 mph and the door stayed intact. two of my crushes were sitting in someone’s bedroom, which i guess was mine bc a ton of my shit was in there. they were playing a weird cards against humanity and truth or dare fusion game, that also included pokemon cards. hoechlin is doing vertical pushups on my bed while simultaneously playing the strange card game. he’s not doing so good. i went back out into the hallway and my best friend had a rainbow donkey pinata that was as tall as her shoulder. we both couldve fit in it. she told me that it was filled with the world’s greatest chocolate, but she refused to open it because she didn’t want to ruin the donkey. irl that friend loves chocolate. her boyfriend was following her around the house/mansion trying to convince her to just smash the paper mache donkey already.

i got back in the car, a different best friend was in the fiat with me. she liked throwing smokebombs out the window at anyone she saw. somehow she got her hands on a t-shirt cannon and shot confetti in people’s faces despite never leaving the car. someone bet that i couldn’t kick a hole through a refrigerator. they lost the bet. everyone was suddenly betting that i couldn’t kick through anything. i could kick through anything as long as i was wearing my necklace. my necklace gave me power.

all the tvs in the house only played the sports channel, which had this game going on 24/7 called glitterball. it looked like football meets ice hockey, except there were pits on the field and whack-a-moles would pop up and players would slam into them or fall in. there was no glitter involved. someone stole the babysitter’s shotgun and was trying to shoot her since she kept interrupting us during shit but she was faster than sonic and kept matrix dodging the shotgun shells. tyler was rooting for us. actually i think he started a betting pool with other celebrity friends to see who could shoot the babysitter. it turned into a little hunger games, except we were all hunting the babysitter.

one of my other friend’s bedrooms since they all had rooms at my parent’s house was literally filled with weed. there was a path big enough for a car to squeeze through and a sofa in the middle of the room but other than that, floor to wall weed. nothing else. he called it the posey room. he also had a lamborghini which also had a child lock, but his was stuck at 45 mph. i always passed him in the halls in my tiny ass car even though the hallways are one car so idfk how i managed to pass him. whenever he honked it was just a yeaaaaaaaaaa boiiiiiiiii. there was a record player in the exact center of the house, suspended in midair. it played whatever you wanted to hear the most. we called i the record player of erised. no one could hear what it played for themselves, and no one could give accurate descriptions of what they heard for someone. someone would argue they heard smooth criminal, another would say moaning, and someone else would say fireworks. we knew they weren’t right. without fail hoechlin would always say it sounded like wonderwall. we all looked at him funny because that was the only thing we found weird in the dream.

since the house was part mall there was a weird amc extension. we watched a movie that was a combo of ferris bueller, me before you, avatar, and your name. the friend with the pinata had a whole kiddie pool filled with popcorn and was sitting on the pinata, which was still intact even though someone had ran it over in the 45mph lambo. i watched it get rekt. but there it was, whole and fully intact. the friend on the horse was still on the horse and refused to dismount, and managed to convince most of us that he was actually attached to it so he couldn’t get off. i had seen him get off the horse to kick someone in the balls. after the movie none of us could find the babysitter. she disappeared. we were all fine with that. we found tyler eating leftover pizza in the kitchen and watching glitterball. he said the babysitter left him in charge because she was sick of us. we were fine with that as well.

the fridge that i put a hole in was the door to his room. there was a camaro in there, and it was locked at 120mph. my car was faster than his. no one thought it was strange. someone drank sriracha like it was water. someone else buttered the hardwood flooring and put lube on the doorknobs and faucets. we all stayed in our cars for a while to avoid the buttery floors, all capped at different speeds. the camaro was still the slowest, even slower than the horse. hoechlin’s car horn was just assorted swear words. every time he honked it would stop our cars. someone traded cars with him and just honked at random intervals . we could hear the muted swearing every time our cars jerked to a stop. eventually tyler traded back.

i got in a fight with my other friend about what would be in a sandwich called the lgbtq+. i said edible glitter and anything the person making it wanted. she said that was literally just glittery subway. she argued that it had to be lamb, grain, bacon, tabbouleh, quince, and an ingredient starting with the letter of the maker’s sexuality. hoechlin said that we had to fight and whoever won would be right. someone backhanded me before the fight started and i woke up. what the fuck.

25 Q/A Personality Tag

A dear friend of mine asked me to do this tag myself after I wrote this a while ago for my lovely friends here on Tumblr, thanks to the post by @annarieta regarding this tag, it gave me a little courage to do it. (I actually think there are many scary questions, I don’t like the idea of revealing it to just about anybody.) RULES: Tag people you want to get to know better.

1. Are you introverted or extroverted? I’m very introverted. I can go weeks on my own, without needing company or social stimulation.

2. Are you ruled by emotions or logic? I reason from a point of logic, but ultimately make decisions based of what I feel will make everyone the happiest.

3. What is your happiest memory? Like many others have said already, which was a bit surprising to read, I don’t recall many outstanding happy memories. Like @annarieta said, it’s the small things mostly. But I remember happy car rides with my best friend where we sang (screamed) to music, and traveling to the Vatican City with my classmates. Even if the company wasn’t necessarily good all the time, that place really made me happy. It was so beautiful.

4. What is your saddest memory? Nowadays, every winter, I go into a state of hibernation really. It’s very dark here during the winter, we have about 5 hours of sunlight everyday. It’s cold, it’s dark and murky. It makes me very depressed. But um. The day I lost my best friend is a terrible memory. We were friends for 8 years and I’ve missed her very much for 3 years since.

5. In what kind of world would you rather live in? I’d love to live in an Elven world. I love the architecture, I love the purple/blue/mystic gloom of the places. The nature, rivers are very beautiful. Where people cherished art, music, writing, love, beauty etc, and no one cared a wit for politics, cruelty or had any desire to forbid people from being different or happy.

6. What is your favorite video game? The Witcher, Skyrim and BioShock are my babies.

7. What is your biggest fear for yourself? Being hated by people.

8. What is your biggest wish for yourself? To be a happy little hermit =) In a beautiful place where I can write stories, paint and be surrounded by 20 dogs.

9. What fictional character do you relate to the most? Queen Freya from The Huntsman (she’s my avatar for a reason guuuuuuys). Wait, let me explain, haha. She’s portrayed as a complex evil character. I don’t consider myself to be evil, nor do I consider myself to be purely good either. I can relate to her character process. Alike her, I was very trusting and happy when I was little, I was truly a little sunshine. But like with so many of us, life happens, and then life happens again, and I became... well, a different person really. Like her, I often feel misunderstood and isolated. But I also cherish loyalty above all, and shun love away from me (I also freaking love ice and snow). I think love is beautiful when I see it with other people, but I could never love like that myself, somewhere it’s hardwired in my brain in a twisted way that love is a weakness and can be used to manipulate and harm me. Heartache and emotional suffering is something I'm terrified of (you know, when you can physically feel pain in your chest), and I can’t handle it anymore. So I don’t feel romantic desire towards people anymore, I think I’ve... removed it?

10. If you could become anything, without any education or demands, what would you choose as your profession? Author or an actress.

11. Do you have any siblings? Two brothers and one sister. I’m the second youngest.

12. Have you ever wanted to injure someone? When I was bullied, I wanted to injure the people who hurt me all the time, but I never actually did it.

13. Have you ever wanted to help someone, but didn’t? Yes, but I always try to do the best I can to help someone, even if I don’t know the person. It doesn’t matter, I’ll happily embarrass myself to help someone in need.

14. What makes you angry? Bullies, homophobes, racists, sexists, rapists, murderers, especially animal abusers can fuck off right to hell.

15. What makes you happy? My precious jewel, doggy.<3 Also, traveling and airplanes is a joy. Museums, exploring new places, yeah. Fun fun.

16. Would you rather beat up a small child once - or get beaten up by an angry man every single day for the rest of your life? I don’t want to beat up anybody, so bring me the man. Maybe I’d get really psychologically twisted and Stockholm Syndrome would set in so I’d start to like it lol.

17. What places would you visit today if you could? Ireland! Scotland! England! Just because @lithiumgrayangel showed me how beautiful Sevilla is, I wanna visit Sevilla one day. But of course, beautiful Italy (Rome is stunning), Venice again, Russia (possibly Moscow), FRANCE! Finland, Norway and Iceland are beautiful too. Also Warsaw, UK and US. And Budapest. And New Zeeland, Canada, Australia... Gosh I wanna go everywhere, I can’t pick one!

18. Do you want children? Why? If not, why not? To be honest, it will depend on what situation I am in. Did I, against all odds, found a person who wants children? Then yes, in a stable household and in happy relationship, I’d consider having one or two, no more. But... Right now, that future is looking very bleak. And if I end up with someone who don’t want children, then I won’t have children. Just get a dog instead, they’re less fussy.

19. Did you have a happy childhood? It’s a bit complicated. When I was young, I did have a happy childhood, but my father was also abusive back then. He calmed down once I became a teenager, and then the bullying started, and when the bullying stopped, my dad became sick. And my mother has basically been hysterical and wacky my entire life so. But um, to be honest. I had friends, a roof over my head, food on the table. I got nothing to complain about.

20. Have you ever done drugs? If you have, would you do it again? I’ve been offered, but I’ve never been interested and nor will I be. I know a couple of people who just smokes pipe and marijuana in front of me? I think it’s odd but. I try not to judge, and it’s not my business.

21. Would you rather become a child again, possessing all the knowledge you have today, or become middle-aged, with 45 000 000 € on your bank account? I’d become a child again, start my life over, and be twice as intelligent. Could be like a scientist or something.

22. If you could become any existing famous person in the world - who would you be and why? I admire Lana del Rey a lot, but I wouldn’t want to be any celebrity. Unless I can become someone really powerful and change the world. Like Donald Trump and resign as the president so someone more capable can take over.

23. Are your parents married or divorced? They’re divorced, but sadly live together still. It’s a stupid decision, but I reckon my father wouldn’t last a day on his own, and my mother must be addicted to misery.

24. Where do you see yourself in the future? An author, hopefully. Making a positive change, helping people, having meaningful friends in my life, living in a beautiful place surrounded by nature and animals. :)

25. If you’d like, a question of your own here. Mine is directed to my fellow Witcher lovers; Who and Why?

For friendly purposes, Regis or Cirilla? I like Ciri, and I can understand why people would choose her, she seems like she would be a lovely friend. But ultimately, I’d have so much to discuss with Regis. I feel like, without being self-absorbed or... delusional in any way, I have some things in common with him. We’re too loyal, we fight for people who don’t cherish our love or advice and we both like discussing philosophical topics with loooooooong sentences (as you’ve probably noticed by now). I’d feel so good in his company, he’s a lovely lovely man.

For romantic purposes, Dettlaff or Avallac’h? My darling Avallac’h, I know there are so many people who misunderstands him, confuses his intelligence for arrogance. People call him horrible things. To be honest, I don’t have too much against Dettlaff though, I like him, and I love his complex nature. But of course, I’d never pick anyone over Avallac’h. He’s brilliant, and I would love to discover a million new worlds with him. (ps. marry me have my babies)

As your co-worker, Caranthir or Geralt? Caranthir would be a brilliant colleague, though Geralt is probably more lovable, Caranthir is intelligent. He’d help me with my tasks and I’d sit there gazing into his eyes and not hearing a word he’s saying. ♥‿♥ (true story, I often drift away when people talk to me)

As your boss, Eredin or Ge’els? I don’t know, he feels more attainable than Ge’els do. Ge’els is just da boss, he’d rule over me, I’d always feel incredible stupid and inferior around him. But Eredin is kinda wacky, but I love him, but he’s a silly goose so I’d just try to befriend him to eventually marry him so we could rule the galaxy together.

As your best friend, Yennefer or Shani? Yennefer, my oh my, I’ve been in love with her since the first time I saw her. She’s INTELLIGENT AND INTELLIGENCE IS SEXY ASF. Shani, you cool too but. Meh, I think her character is a bit boring. There’s not much interesting about her that makes her stand out? She’s not really complex either? She’s just... idk... pretty and stuff. Redhead and stuff. (sorry @vaporeox dont kill me)

As your ally, Vernon Roche or Anna Henrietta? Nah nah, always Roche, I love that man immensely. I’d marry him too. I’d marry everyone.

As your worst enemy, Triss or Dandelion? I don’t really like Triss that much. What she did to Yennefer has ruined her in my eyes.

wait ok maybe a bad time to start this at 1:30am (<- started this post last night lmao) but i’ve been thinking so much (for a long time but this week i think maybe prompted by jonny saying stuff in the s5 q&a part 3 about fanon character designs getting more homogenous as the fandom gets bigger its really been on my mind again) about my thoughts on the magnus archives character design stuff

(this turned into such a fucking long post my god sorry lol. just writing this for my own purposes really but i feel ridiculous i spent like a good portion of the past day writing this out dkjfhgfd)

like i already said on that other post character design stuff is full of so much under the surface both really silly and almost nonsensical (like ‘oh this character just feels like they have a lot of triangles incorporated into their design’ or the slightly more connected to reality arbitrary ideas people have about what type of character might wear glasses) and stuff thats incredibly loaded and very much connected to real life systems of oppression. so its like. idk. i like drawing people and fashion and harmonizing shapes and the idea of coming up with people who dont exist through abstracted drawings that somehow click and that can feel cohesive even with different angles/expressions/poses/etc is really fun to me conceptually but Character Design(tm) as a thing even outside of established tropes and schools of it that really lean into elements that can uphold gross shit as shorthand just inevitably theres so much to consider in the implications of making a person (visually) and ascribing traits to them (or i guess in this case largely the opposite)

so thats not something id call fun its just important and inevitably a big factor if i’m going to put any of this to words and can only hope i do so non-clumsily when i wanna talk about this on the whole just bc i find the process of how fanon designs get homogenized interesting (and the purpose of it understandable and maybe a bit inevitable in certain contexts) but also regardless of any actual potential problematic implications in any of that just bc i like the creative process of coming up with character designs i like trying to see when it comes to practicing that through applying it to characters in non-visual media i care about how i can break my guides for what they could look like down to their bare essentials between canon description, things i vibe with personally, etc so that if i have all that written down for myself it can be a good starting place for just experimenting with designs (i dont have any desire to settle on any one design for these characters but its just good general practice for this stuff) and maybe pushing a bit against some things that seem to be generally defaulted to mix things up or w/e. so yeah i’ve just wanted to write all this out for myself for a while, so after that long fucking intro fdkgh here goes!

jon!!!

ok so canonically hes born about 1987 and is like roughly 28-31 throughout the series but looks older to the point where he straight up lies and says hes a decade older at one point, he has graying hair, has been described as looking like he hasnt slept in weeks

(this bullet point contains spoilers up to early s4) depending on what part of canon youre describing him in he canonically has scars from worms probably all over his body (post ep 39), a burn scar on his hand (probably right and probably roughly shaped like a handprint) (post ep 89), actually i’m checking on the wiki now and it specifically says melanie stabbed him in the shoulder? but rereading the transcript and another couple parts that i thought potentially could mention it i dont believe it ever actually specifies (maybe the person who wrote that is conflating how both melanie and daisy’s first injuries from the slaughter are on their shoulders? so even if not canon good guess i guess that his scar from thats on his shoulder) (post ep 125) plus also probably on his throat from daisy (post ep 91), somewhere from michael stabbing him (post ep 47), and who knows maybe even something from mike crew (probably not it was just the height part of things not a lightning strike but i saw fanart of him getting a lichtenberg figure scar once from that which was interesting) (post ep 91)

has been described as ‘scrawny’ and ‘little’ which may just be more of a insult but because of that i support manlet jon lol. also because of that tend to think of him as skinny and not very muscular but i’m def not opposed to him being fat i think its really fun when i do see interpretations of him as such esp in juxtaposition with martin its nice having stuff sometimes where its two fat characters in a relationship. but if i’m leaning on every little word to narrow down character design i’d say hes most likely thin and probably short too.

getting into stuff with no real canon basis, i am a fan of him having long hair like a lot of fanon has him with. its a very tangential justification because i know its more the specific events surrounding this this was describing but when he was described as a “grubby jesus” that helped lol

but! my jon hair opinion that seems to differ from fanon is that i think maybe itd make sense with him being described as looking older and stuff to give him a bit of a receding hairline

not sure about glasses either way i think it just comes down to the specific design whether it looks good or not. there is something conceptually funny to me about giving an avatar of the eye glasses and debating whether that “makes sense” or not lol. one time i saw someones design where he stopped needing to wear glasses later on and i thought that was kinda fun

i don’t really care for like. idk. glowing green eyed jon or multiple eyes or w/e. like i get it. idk probably somethings happening when hes doing like the ceaseless watcher thing or like that one scene where he forced a statement out of that person who described him as “all eyes” like the phrase but maybe not just that as a phrase. so that plus the cover art of the show being green and making people probably theme stuff on that color i guess i cant blame people for doing that but idk just like. it feels kinda just Blah and not that novel to see a lot of the time and a bit too tropey or w/e for my personal taste unless people mix it up a bit. so i tend to prefer him just looking like some guy even later on usually. also with just like brown eyes or w/e

okay so this next part is for both jon and martin because i cant fit this into either of their sections because i feel like i cant adequately talk about this without doing it in juxtaposition to one another

this post summarizes basically anything i’m reiterating here far better but basically by nature of this being a podcast written by a white person for whom most of the first characters voiced (who included most of the most frequently appearing characters outside of those described by others because they were reoccurring avatars or w/e long before voice appearances) were from a small pool of people at a majority white company and their family members, even if that wasnt “intentional” of course that pattern happens so much and more productions should be conscious of that from the get go and reach outside their immediate circles to cast more actors of color from the start of their productions if they have the resources to properly compensate them. so basically from there theres no real totally satisfying solution for portraying “aracial” characters acted and written by white people’s race, because the situation just isn’t ideal in the first place

so like, with that in mind, i know its a bit of a mixed bag with jon in fanon being pretty consistently either ambiguously a person of color or specifically south asian, because i know people of color who were excited from fanon going in for him to be a person of color only to realize hes written and voiced by a white guy and has no canon race (which might just somewhat default to him being written as white since theres no active thought to how him being a person of color, let alone any specific race or ethnicity, might affect anything), but then on the other hand, characters with no race given being defaulted to being portrayed as white is absolutely another common issue in fandoms of things like books and podcasts. so personally because of that i would feel weird portraying him as white in my own designs in contrast with how consistently hes depicted as a person of color, but i would be interested in potentially depicting him as other races beyond the default fanon of him being south asian too (although theres def stuff to consider there that doesnt prevent any interpretation but just is there regardless like his dynamic with daisy in like s4)

and then this post expresses things better than i could ever rehash, but because of the stuff outlined in there in my own attempts at character designs i try to avoid making martin white because of the juxtaposition between that and making jon a person of color in their dynamic. not as pertinent and not something i’ve taken in from any fan of color saying it so i’m definitely not dictating this just talking out my thought process, but by extension of this i’ve also tried to consider how colorism in juxtaposition between them might make it sit better to have martin have darker skin than jon. this does get a bit weird though when balancing how martin has a couple really goofy lines implying ignorance about police abusing their power (i guess charitable interpretations could be that hes plenty aware but nonetheless vocalizing shock in the moment of it actually happening in front of him), so even if as one of the few characters i’ve posted designs of before i drew him as black, when i remembered those lines i guess its just an issue of an “aracial” character being defaulted to being written as if hes white, so even if he certainly could still be black (or any race besides white who might not have the luxury of ignorance about police brutality) it just makes clear that by him being written the way he was nothings ideal because theres not necessarily much depth that can be taken from canon to make certain depictions of him as satisfying or well fleshed out as they could be. oh also so inconsequential to the rest of this and i dont care about this at all beyond just latching onto any scrap to base things off of but the fact that martin maybe knows at least some polish i feel like thats not a language most people just know from school (esp as someone who didnt go to college) or w/e so maybe his mom is polish so probably hes part white at least to wildly extrapolate from there? idrc tho its just one more thing to note on the subject depictions of jon and martins races

martin!

canonically the same age as jon (so approximately born 1987 and roughly 28-31 throughout the series)

theres at least like 4 things in canon that can be used to say hes canonically fat, and some of those lines also more just generally describe him as “big” or w/e so while i dont care about sticking to this as much its easy to argue hes tall too (esp that one point where he says a worm “jumped literally 6 feet through the air at my face” which i guess could be approximate or the worm like. arcing lol and also iirc jonny says he doesnt remember writing that line but regardless its another thing to latch onto to narrow down design stuff)

melanie!

canonically has a scar on her shoulder (as of late 2016), probably on her leg too (if not by early 2017 then by early 2018/ep 125), and is described as skinny

(spoilers for late s4) (also eye trauma mention) post ep 155 she’s blind but trying to research what exactly she might look like like would the results of the damage she does with the awl after going to the hospital would her eyes need to be eviscerated vs enucleated? idk. thinking about lydia saying in a s3 extra in retrospect talking about this where shes like ‘it wouldn’t work like that with [an awl]!’ bc . lol yeah idk. or like would she have scarring on her eyelids or anything, would she have glass eyes, would she feel a need to wear sunglasses to protect her eyes or as a visual cue that shes blind (bc idt shed be the type to just wear it to hide her eyes) or not, etc. i’m not sure! one thing i do know for sure though thats a pet peeve in art is that people make her cane have a red stripe on it when it the UK especially a red striped white cane is for deafblind people, so her cane is most likely just plain white (also theres different styles of white canes but from researching i think shed probably make use of a long cane imo)

my biggest non-canon appearance thought about her is just. melanie king butch 💗

i do think its fun when characters get drawn with unnaturally colored dyed hair for no real reason and do think people should have fun with that more but simultaneously the contrarian in me gets annoyed with how common blue grown out roots straight hair bob melanie is. like the fun of the novelty of being ‘fuck it dying this characters hair’ gets sucked out of it from it being so consistent in fanon. also while she def could be a long haired butch or w/e regardless i just wish fanon of her was way more masc for my own self indulgent reasons

i think the only canonical appearance description is the implication that shes not thin by jared when describing her, melanie, and martin, distinguishing melanie as “the skinny one”

hussain specifically as a surname spelled that way while i’m def no expert, from people i know personally and looking online too seems to be most common specifically with pakistani, indian, and bangladeshi muslims so it makes the most sense to have her be depicted as south asian. considering her VA, her being part black could make sense too but also i feel like its kinda a Thing in a lot of media where they’ll barely have black characters but when they do they’ll make them cops so like idk that’d def require more thought to it.

definitely not on authority on this of course this is just me talking through my own thoughts but i feel like maybe the common fanon of her being a hijabi feels a bit just like . theres not much thought behind it for a lot of people doing it? like it feels like ‘she has a muslim name’ -> ‘she’s muslim’ -> ‘she wears a hijab’ and not much else. like theres just like a whole lot that would need to be unpacked with any main character being religious in this series and actually specifically iirc theres a part in season 5 or something where her and jon reflect on the implications of all this on human religion? and both seem a bit agnostic in their approach. and of course theres people who wear hijabs who arent particularly religious (just like obviously vice versa) but for adults in places that arent majority muslim i feel like a main motivator for that would be connection with ones wider community? but basically all of the main characters in this story like necessarily with the themes and how all this was able to happen to them they feel pretty atomized from any real community (she specifically is paralleled with martin in how she latches onto daisy) none of this is at all to say she couldn’t be practicing islam and/or a hijabi but just that if thats how people want to depict her i think it deserves more thought than just drawing her as such (like for one example of how people have done cool things with making characters muslim i appreciate this artists comics about muslim jon (1, 2, 3)) but yeah! idk just something i’ve been thinking about but very much is not something i can act like an authority on of course. because being a hijabi is something stigmatized i do nonetheless feel slightly weird if i were to go against that fanon but idk

part of me is like ‘we dont need more butch cops’ but then the other part of me just defaults to wanting to make every woman gnc lol. for w/e reason i tend to picture her dressing pretty practically in like khaki cargo pants and hiking boots and flannels and such

canonically theres here starburst shaped scar on the back of her shoulder

(spoilers for mid s4) i dont care to find it now but i feel like once she was described as scrawny or skinny or whatever (not sure how much focusing on muscle vs thinness if so) but if so that was after she came out of the coffin so i dont think that really implies she always looked like that and i think maybe even by contrast could be implying she was muscular before

def think it makes sense to make her white. generally i do see her similar to fanon depictions of her although i do kinda wish in juxtaposition people would make more women look butch besides her. i think when i first pictured her before seeing fanart or anything it was pretty similar in build and hair color and demeanor such as most of fanon but i pictured her with like . you know like the tight bun women in the military wear lol. so its more ambiguous if her flavor of powertripping “tough” white woman is gay or not. but idrc regardless i dont plan on making much art of her

uhhh i think the only canonical description of him beyond his worm scars (post ep 39) is that basira called him hot in comparison to jon and martin lol

ever since i started listening i keep defaulting to picturing him vaguely like tim from marble hornets lol. so like idk i think its fun when he has defined eyebrows and sideburns and stuff. but not even that i’m really Set on i think theres a lot of fun potential designs for him

i saw some art of him once where he had long locs and also just idk he was like doing that ominous floaty thing which included his hair and that had a nice rhythm in the art together with the black tendrils in the background so i could appreciate him having long locs/braids/twists or something. but def not set on that and ofc theres like a lot of years to depict him between he could have various hair styles

Its only been 15ish minutes but I’m still thinking about this post and I really like how instead of being offended about the outrageous displays of sexism in the exact field im going into, instead of being mad that a show I really enjoy was canceled prematurely/at a spoiler (? so I’ve heard, like I’ve said I’m only on season 3 so...), I’m just like “WHAT DO YOU MEAN TERRA WOULD’VE GOTTEN MORE SCREENTIME IN SEASON 6″

That says a lot about where my priorities lie. Like sexism in the children’s television industry and division in the toy industry are two things I’d love to work against once I get into the industry (I mean im not planning to change the world lmfao but I can try) considering both fields are close to my heart and I’ll probably be working with them extensively once I get a job (not sure how involved I’ll be in merchandising but I’d like to have at least some hand in it), and I hate enforcing gender roles on kids (do you know how fucked up I’d be if my parents didn’t let me play with “masculine” toys like dragons, Pokemon figures, ect-), but Terra is more important.

My obsession aside, I do wonder how much that’s changed in recent years.

Teen Titans aired from 2003 to 2006, and honestly I think sexism had the biggest grip on children’s television in that time period than any other time period. Sure other older shows would just...not show females in equal roles to their male counterparts, but in the early 2000s, either you did that too or you made a big deal about your female character being given equal treatment to her male counterpart. Oh boy, look at Rika from Digimon Tamers, it’s so WEIRD that she’s a GIRL and she’s SO GOOD AT TAMING AND THE CARD GAME, wOWEE. I give Digimon Tamers a lot of slack for that because it was extremely realistic about its sexism lmao (Henry never said anything about Rika being a girl, Jerry and Rika were both treated as equals in the overarching narrative, ect) but my point still stands. Teen Titans is really good about how it treats its female characters, but I can still see the fingerprints of this era all over it, from its character designs (DRAW RAVEN WITH A THICKER WAIST YOU COWARDS) to its choreography (if Starfire gets wrapped up by one more tentacle I s2g-) They also both have male-dominated casts but like...what show doesn’t? Steven Universe, and then shows specifically targeted towards females? And like, I’m not gonna sit here and yell at shows from the early 2000s because these were the better shows out there, they tried their best. I can find a more sexist show airing nowadays easily, and like whatever, plenty of shows have done just as bad if not worse and I’m just using those as examples because I’ll stan those shows til i die. I’m just sayin, it’s not surprising given the time period. (I also have no idea how ATLA survived and thrived in the late 2000s, seriously what the fuck, how did Nickelodeon do something right in those years)

Fastforward to nowadays though, and while male-dominated casts are still the...well everything except Steven Universe and female-oriented shows, there are so many shows that really don’t seem to appeal to a particular gender. If you made me pick, I’d say shows like Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and We Bare Bears are probably aimed at 7-10 year old boys. But honestly? They’re relatively ageless and genderless shows; SU and AT are both adventure-comedies, and We Bare Bears is about as gender-neutral as a Tom and Jerry cartoon. And I already mentioned that SU is like the only cartoon I can think of that doesn’t have a male-dominated main cast and isn’t targeted exclusively at girls.

One thing that the 2010s have brought that I really appreciate is ageless, genderless shows that aren’t just there to sell toys. Sure you can find merchandise for AT and SU (I cant find any WBB merchandise though :( i wouldnt mind an ice bear plushie but its fine...im fine...) but it was never their primary goal.

Green Lantern was canceled in 2013, and while that doesn’t seem that long ago, that was actually four years ago (jesus christ why am I so old). Young Justice was canceled the same year, but it was announced last year that it’d be returning for a new season. Legend of Korra was canceled in 2012, meaning it could’ve easily been part of the same sexism in the industry that killed Green Lantern and Young Justice. I did hear something about there being concern from Nickelodeon executives about Korra being a girl, but the writing team was allowed to proceed when a test screening showed that boys didnt care about her gender (surprise surprise! kids arent sexist assholes until you teach them to be. who knew? oh yeah I FUCKING DID) so...

Yes shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe were out or coming out around this time, but the industry hadn’t made the shift in mindset yet. Adventure Time was a hit at the time, but like Avatar: The Last Airbender, it was an outlier, a show that was picked up for so many seasons and just too big to kill when its contract was up. But with shows like Steven Universe, Clarence, We Bare Bears, ect...the cartoon industry has become a lot more gender-neutral in my eyes.

The group that networks are most concerned with appealing to now is 90s kids. The hip thing to do is play with nostalgia and reuse old properties, for whatever gender people you want. That’s why Teen Titans Go is still playing when it appeals to people of all genders, despite Teen Titans doing the same thing (in an arguably better show) a decade ago.

But one thing I dont understand is 90s cartoons. 90s cartoons - the original CN cartoons, the original Nicktoons, the original Disney cartoons - none of them seemed particularly...gendered. Like anyone could relate to Hey Arnold. Courage the Cowardly Dog was scary no matter your gender. Everyone loved Ducktales - altho I guess Disney isn’t behind any of the situations i mentioned before (it’s mostly CN and then a little bit of Nickelodeon, but I do know Disney’s done some...kinda shady shit and does have a tendency to gender its shows, but idk if it’s ever canceled a show for that reason) I dont know. I wish I had the motivation and resources to do more research, but I’m just some idiot on the internet lmao.

I guess my point is that Teen Titans, The Legend of Korra, and related shows would likely be much better off if they were airing in 2017.

1. A cartoon you remember that nobody else does.Back at the Barnyard. That fucking show…oh my god

2. A cartoon you like but nobody else seems to.Well technically I remember liking Back at the Barnyard but I haven’t watched that show since I was like 8 or 9 so idk if I’d like it now akjsfkfkgjh I kinda doubt it now because my bullshit-tolerance-meter for television has significantly shortened. Uhhh the only other cartoons I can think of that I liked that don’t seem to be liked by a lot of people are like…the DreamWorks cartoons (when they were on Nickelodeon and CN that is, I don’t have Netflix rip) and the Lego cartoons (except Ninjago because apparently that has a fandom?? what??) like I thought they were okay at the time at least. (Also I guess the HTTYD cartoon wasnt hated, because it was fucking HTTYD, but //shrug)

3. A cartoon you don’t like but everybody else seems to. ADVENTURE TIME and like everything on Cartoon Network except Steven Universe and We Bare Bears honestly. Like Adventure Time isn’t my cup of tea but I’m like “alright, some of those plots actually seem kind of interesting, I guess I can see where people are coming from” but like… shit like Clarence and Uncle Grandpa?? I’m all for people having different opinions but I don’t know how you can even get past the art style, let alone the writing style and some of the voice acting ;-; you are a stronger person than I’ll ever be if you can get past that lmao

4. A cartoon you wish would be forgotten.Uhhh pretty much everything on Nickelodeon from 2010-2014 (besides the dreamworks cartoons basically) and the shit reboots that CN’s been pumping out (namely TTG and the PPG reboot, but the Ben 10 reboot looks REALLY lazy, so at least it doesn’t annoy me [or I haven’t seen anything from it that annoys me] but…)

5. The worst cartoon you’ve ever seen, and why?Fanboy and Chum Chum, as far as cartoons I’ve actually watched go (because hoo boy, worse cartoons exist out there). Everything about that cartoon is…wrong and broken. It has one style of humor and that’s toilet/gross out humor. The “straight man” so to speak, basically an emo teen version of Squidward, is actually…not Squidward in-show?? Like in the intro he’s very clearly set out to be a grouch who hates the main characters, but in the show he’s just…an introvert that gets wrapped into their plans and only snaps at them when they actually hurt him. The protagonists are annoying as fuck and are psychopaths that deserve to be locked up in a mental institution. It’s not funny. The voice acting is annoying as hell. And the animation is disgusting. I didn’t know it was even possible to make 3d animation look this rendered yet still look so bad, but apparently it is. Like they took extra effort into making the show look WORSE. I will say that its impressive that they managed to get such tooney designs to exist in a 3d space, but that doesn’t do you shit good when the animation is gross.

6. The worst moment you’ve ever seen happen in a cartoon.Directly, as in I was watching the show? Something in Fanboy and Chum Chum. Indirectly, as in I watched a review where they showed the scene or I read about it? Something in Family Guy, or the self-insert in the PPG reboot. Yeah there’s a self-insert in the PPG reboot. Every time I think it cant get worse…it does.

7. The worst thing you’ve ever seen happen to a cartoon that ruined it.I was really neutral on Teen Titans Go (some of the jokes made me laugh but others were really cringey, but it was at least funny some of the time and the art didn’t hurt me as much as other shows on CN, so whatever) but then I found out that they’ve actively attacked their critics in-show and have generally responded very poorly to criticism and…asdf. Like its one thing to stay quiet, it’s another thing to embrace it and say “yeah we know its stupid, but it made us laugh!” (which they did do, kinda), but it’s another thing to spit in the face of everyone who has a problem with it (and not even address their criticisms, like they act like they did but?? no they fucking didn’t??). Like the problem I have with the show is not that it’s stupid. The problem is that the writers say “yeah, it’s for kids, so it should be stupid” (its not even “well it made us laugh” from what I remember), the problem is that the writers never watched the original show and completely ruined the legacy of a show that actually took itself seriously, the problem is that the writers are so fucking high on their horses that they respond to the haters IN-SHOW and LAUGH AT THEM. My problem is not with the show itself, my problem is with the culture it embodies. It embodies the worst of Hollywood entitlement, cheap shithole cashcow shows, cheap reboots that disappoint fans of the original, “stupid because its for kids” cartoons, and basically the worst Hollywood has to offer.

8. A cancelled/forgotten cartoon you would bring back to television.Uhh if nothing happens with Infinity Train then that, but besides that…another series of Avatar (like following a new avatar) would be fucking great but I don’t want to put the creators through the hell that is Nickelodeon lmao. I also thought Harvey Beaks looked nice, like I never watched it but it looked okay, so I’d be okay with bringing that back too if it made the creator happier (honestly the poor creator…nickelodeon treated him really badly too)

9. An animated character you remember but nobody else seems to.Pete from Steven Universe lmao like where did he goJoking aside (SU is too relevant to count for this) uhHHH fuck I guess the characters in the Monsters vs Aliens cartoon? nobody remembers that movie but the show kinda cemented the characters in my mind (I would’ve said back at the barnyard but honestly I don’t remember the characters until you show them to me, besides like the main cow guy, whoops)

10. An animated character you hate the most, and why?Onion annoys me. Like…he’s that kind of character that has no rhyme or reason behind what he does. He’s the kind of character whose entire personality just relies on the kind of Adventure Time-esque humor that I just don’t get or enjoy. The kind of humor that just creeps or grosses me out or bores me instead of making me burst out laughing. The kind of humor that’s physical-based, but just too slow and poorly paced to be funny like slapstick. I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s exactly how Onion seems to me and that’s why I dislike Onion. In Doug Out, for example, Onion has no gross out or creep out jokes, and I don’t mind him as much. Like he’s not a GOOD character, he still doesn’t bother insisting that there’s something else out there when the others disagree with him, but at least he isn’t scaring me. OH AND MARCUS FROM DIGIMON DATA SQUAD I immediately thought Onion because he’s a cartoon character, but since this is just for animation in general…aksdhfgfkj i dont know why I hate Marcus so much, I dont want to hate Marcus so much, but I do. His response to everything is just to punch everything and he’s so entitled and annoying and hotheaded and aAAARG HES JUST INFURIATING, I DIDNT THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE TO BE THIS MAD OVER A CHARACTER THAT ISNT FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN BUT HERE I AM

11. A non-animated property you would like to see as a cartoonidk if this counts because it’d have to be an anime probably but FOSSIL FIGHTERS CHAMPIONS!!! LITERALLY I WOULD CRY IF THIS WAS MADE INTO A MANGA OR ANIME PLEASE @ NINTENDO MY FAMILY IS STARVING but seriously can you imagine like….you could have a mute main character (its implied that the protagonist talks a few times but they could be selectively mute or just mime and the dialogue could be rearranged appropriately) and if you choose the female protagonist you could make her gay for Pauleen??? Like I refuse to accept the male protagonist as the “canon” main character bc I want gay sorry. BUT LIKE!!! 12. A trope or trend in animation that you dislike.Well there are a lot but they aren’t exclusive to animation…? "Blonde popular bitch" and “damsel in distress” have been two of my personal most-hated for all my life because of who I am/was, but there are others I dislike too. I also really hate the kinda…style that Adventure Time set up in cartoons. Like I guess AT isn’t really responsible for ugly-looking cartoons and the type of humor that I dislike, because looking at CN before it aired there were already shows like that (Chowder, Flapjack…) but I think AT really popularized them and :/ it also reworked the same concepts in Chowder and Flapjack and people were like “WOWEE CARTOON RENAISSANCE !!!” and I just kinda….idk. I have a lot of personal baggage against AT lmao sorry AT fans, like I don’t even hate the show and not all of its effects were bad (not in the slightest) but like TTG I have issues with some of the things it popularized.

19. At what point did you realize a cartoon, any cartoon was starting to get bad?I can’t remember when I realized SpongeBob was starting to get bad, but it was sometime around 2010 or so. I remember getting really sick of the show when it went to HD/fullscreen because for some reason, all the new character designs got…significantly worse?? Like the season premiere of that season (cant remember which season it was, don’t care to look it up) had three new characters and they all looked…so fucking ugly? It was really hard to look at? Like seriously they looked like something out of Sanjay and Craig, not SpongeBob. Even the main character designs just…looked too smooth and rounded and not good to me. It reminds me of like Family Guy and i dont like that overly smooth, “we have too much money so we blew it on extra in-between frames instead of good-looking art” style. I think the final breaking point for me was Squid Baby and the episode where Gary got overly attached to a ball, and realizing that after an episode that actually was kinda legitimately nice (it was the one about Plankton getting a pet) they were never going to bring up Plankton’s pet again and ugh. Like lack of continuity is nothing new but I really wish he had kept the pet, it was the best thing to happen to the show in literal years. Like seriously that episode was the best new episode in years, it was legitimately cute even though I had a beef with some of the character designs (as I always did in that season)

20. An experience with a cartoon you thought you were going to like but turned you away from it.I tried watching Bee and Puppycat the other day and it really….put me off….because it had more of that Adventure Time style humor and I legitimately thought it interfered with how the plot should’ve progressed. Like Bee was way too okay with everything and we didn’t get any explanation for anything because instead she just made weird noises and bit a monster’s tongue off. I’m still gonna watch the other episodes for the heck of it, so maybe I’ll change my mind, but eh

22. What do you feel makes a cartoon forgettable?That’s….actually a really good question. Because like, I would’ve forgotten about Adventure Time years ago if it hadn’t been drilled into my head that everyone else thought it was the best thing ever and I didn’t. I might be off my SU high by now if I didn’t keep reblogging/reading SU-related stuff on tumblr lol. I guess blandness is what makes your cartoon forgettable. If its not so bad that it’s funny/everyone needs to insult it, but its not good enough that it gets good reviews, then there’s just…no place for your cartoon, especially if its not profitable so it gets cancelled quickly.
