A funny little thing about fandom and fandom spaces. Especially if you are new to these spaces:

I got a friend who is fairly new to fandom spaces. She sends me screenshots sometimes of people in her fandom like being dramatic about shit and I’m not really phased by it cuz I’ve been in fandom spaces since I was like 12.

I gotta school her and tell her all these fandom lores. Like the fact Lord of the Rings had a gay fanfiction cult that scammed people out of money with promising amazing meet ups and were lack lustre, including flying out jed brophy and having his partner having to sob confess to him that she didn’t have enough money to fly them back home and they met Sean Astin several times for charity events and even got him to make the proposal between the cult leader and his main victim/“partner”.

Or that one time in the Hamilton fandom with that one white chick who pretended to be a woman of colour who had aids via sex trafficking but was in fact a white girl with a normal middle class upbringing. All to validate her fanfic about the aids crisis in the 80s with an age gap ship. Which she had no reason to do, like girl made a problem about nothing. And used this marginalized voice she crafted to scam money from people with sickbaiting. But the story then got watered down to the girl who exposed her did so cuz of a rival Hamilton mermaid cannibal crack ship… and then the call out poster then doxxed the scammer after promising not to. Honestly, what a damn mess that was.

The mass shipping wars between harry/ginny traditionalists vs the unhinged proshippers on the other side who shipped anything and everything(which is whatever i’m more proship at the end of the day its just fictional characters and they’re tagged properly, if you interact with it that’s on you). They fr had turf wars and an exchange of harassment(not to mention mrs scribe and her socks). Hello Draco’s Leather Pants I see you. Or the Snape Wives who astral projected sex with Snape via their husbands.

That bible self insert fanfiction writer who went to hell and back to try and claim they wrote my immortal. But he was bad at covering his trail, claimed this multiple times, tried to (shocker) get money and fame from this.

The sonic fandom in its god damn hayday was on a whole different level of insane. The ocs the edits the tracing. In general most spaces were toxic.

Clown meat fandom.

Or when Naruto fans harassed and sent death threats relentlessly to kishi for not making their ships canon at the end of the Naruto manga. We’ve seen things. We have lived through scammers, freaks, and extremists. There always will be in fandom.

I think whining about people who take their favourite character too seriously is not really looking at the full picture of what raving fans will do. Especially in young fandoms. Fanatic people have and always will act the fuck up. They’re the loudest of their fandom usually. But they don’t define their community as a whole. Just let them be. Nothing you can say will change them. They gotta go through the ravenous phases of fandom themselves. Then they become fandom elders like I… Like most of us are. We like what we like. We get friends from it. We make new headcanons and expand upon the blanks the canon materials left out. The ravenous do this too but they tend to have a sort of tunnel vision.

Regardless I don’t think antagonizing them is the right call. Fandom will always fandom. I think it’s just the natural life cycle of the fandom space. We’re all cringe. Ain’t none of us better than anyone else.

Hi, I wanted to preface this by saying this is all incredibly speculative and thus really silly to ask, but I couldn’t help myself- wondered about your thoughts re: acting in AOUS and character bleeding. I wonder how much of Andrew and Paul’s relationship is blurred with Adam and Harry’s? They talk extensively about their own relationship taking off at the same time as filming, which I believe started around June 2022. It’s been a while, and Paul has done Gladiator and Andrew Vanya since. Still, they are incredibly close and touchy and praise each other as people nonstop. What do you think? I’m doing mental gymnastics here trying to gauge whether or not they could be in l*ve for real, lol. Anyways, this is all incredibly tin-hatty, I know it’s not that serious, I should get some help, etc, so thanks for humoring me!

I literally use this side blog to tinhat myself into oblivion. This is a tinhat safe zone.

I think they admit the character bleed was real. They also put more of themselves into Harry and Adam than they have previous characters.

They seemed to have kept in touch throughout, going out a few times together since filming and promo (unless I am getting my timelines wrong). I get the idea there were lots of texts and phone calls, and for some reason a group chat with Joe A.

I spend too much time every day wondering what is real here. All of this screams, we got too into it during filming, and now we don't talk. The idea they are acting couply still and have publicly almost asked for privacy is insane to me. I know these actors quite well, this is out of character. Their openness around each other, I believe it when they said this film changed them.

I am not built like an actor, because I couldn't fall in love and then go back to be good friends with them to the level I sit with my hand on their knee totally platonically. So maybe it's an actor thing and their touching is muscle memory.

Anyway, yes I think they could be in love and yes I think there is a high chance they have hooked up. I also think Paul is working his way through Catholic guilt and Andrew is being a community elder,

unironically, telling myself “you are not a unique specimen of humanity” has become the most helpful mantra, as a neurodivergent trans kid whose teen years were (technically have been) spent feeling like some kind of extinct animal dropped into a close-but-not-quite-right ecosystem.

you are not uniquely awkward or strange or embarrassing. everyone struggles to communicate, to express themselves. everyone messes up. the cashier at the store has seen six people try to push a pull door or drop their change or what have you. it’s fine.

you are not uniquely smart or knowledgeable or enthusiastic, even about things that matter a lot to you. other people can know things and get things right and be excited, and you can even be wrong, and it doesn’t mean anything. it does not take away from you.

you are not uniquely unequipped for life. a lot of people struggle with things that should be simple. a lot of people can’t keep to schedules, or forget important tasks, or just plain need help sometimes. we’re social animals. there are a lot of skills involved in making it to the end of the week, and not everyone gets taught them all, or even the same ones.

you are not uniquely tortured. sure, your exact experience might be strictly yours, but broadly speaking? there is a name for what you’re experiencing. there is a community. if it is distressing you or harming your daily function, there is help. you are not alone.

I hate saying I have it, I usually find ways to just say "oh I am just like that" and Yeah thats true. I am "like that".

A friend once told me my denial of it is probably not good for me. But I can't just say it.

My mother half believes me when I say it, half doesn't. The people in my family dismiss it every time. Calling me delusional or citing instances as to why I don't have it or why it isn't real. (Literally yesterday someone said "no you dont have that because you came out of your room to listen to gossip" how does that make any sense)

I am scared to ever go get it diagnosed. I feel like when I do, I'll have solid proof that "hey! I was right, this whole time I was right" and I will still get told no.

After spending Christmas all alone I was hell bent on not being alone on New Year’s Eve.

how to build a chair........... director's cut ∠( ᐛ 」∠)__ this is about to be a very long very self-indulgent post where i just talk about my own writing. i also doodled on all the pages i think it makes the whole thing more fun to go thru. welcome to my ted talk

SIKE before i begin. credit where credit is due, this post was the start of it all. it changed my brain chemistry my jaw was dropped i was in awe i was obsessed and before i even finished it i knew that i would eventually have to make something similar for the commander or else i would be cursed to think about it for the rest of my life. and i Was cursed for like two years every day i would just be like........ is today the day i sit down and draft the commander chair fic of my dreams....... maybe tomorrow......

and then i got accepted as a writer for the gw2 zine ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ the chair idea was actually my backup option in case my first idea didn't pan out, and thank god it didn't, bc this one worked so much better. (still working on my initial idea, just turning it into a full fic! it was wayyy too long to be a zine submission.)

this is the chair i used. i downloaded the assembly instructions and tried out a bunch of different free pdf editors until i found one i liked, which ended up being sedja. if anyone's interested in doing something like this, i recommend printing out the pdf and writing directly on it! it was a lot easier for me to just figure out everything on paper first and then digitalize it after :P here's a picture of my physical copy

4. if your commander willingly goes to therapy i'm happy for them but TO ME? you'd have to drag the commander kicking and screaming. it's not that they don't know that something is wrong with them, they know, and they know YOU know. you're just never supposed to talk about it. they don't look at their own psych eval results bc that's none of their business.

5. i normally avoid specifying the commander's race when i write them bc i enjoy the challenge, but for the zine i was assigned to write about a norn commander! as a human main i was uhhhh very ill-equipped. but that just meant i had to study up on my norn lore (•̀ᴗ•́)و i spent hours on the wiki, then went around interviewing norn mains for their opinions, which was great fun :D it all helped me narrow the focus of my piece: joining the war on commander objectification on the side of commander objectification (ㅅ´ ˘ `)♡ and no one self-aggrandizes quite like the norn commander!

and to balance that i knew my narrator had to be patronizing as shitttt. they've clearly been following the commander since the beginning and seem to know a lot of intimate details about their life, despite not thinking very highly of them. wonder who that could be :3c

6. i can't stop making references. so the original part number is actually #122620 in the manual but i've changed it here (and on the previous page!) to #082812, as in 08/28/12, the date gw2 was released! no real reason for it, @dalennaugw suggested it for funsies and i liked it. if you're my pal and i show you a wip and you have a cool idea for it, chances are i Will put that shit in. hi dale if you're reading this

7. another thing about me. i loveeee repetition. here the word "over" is repeated four times to match the picture. honestly a lot of the creative process for this piece was just staring at the pages and figuring out how to tie the pictures to the commander in ways that weren't extremely corny or trite. idk why i enjoy writing like this when i could be frolicking in the beautiful prosaic meadows of a word doc instead but. it's like i see a tiny little restrictive box and i'm like OH BOY can't wait to think inside of that thing!!! i like when the format matters just as much as the content and in some cases informs the content. am i making any sense here. well all you need to know is that i'm a virgo and my favorite book is house of leaves

7. aw fuck just realized i wrote 7 twice. whatever i'm not changing it this is 7 part two now. the theme of my piece is glory, what it means to the norn commander, and how far they're willing to go for it.

8. does norn culture place emphasis on seeking individual glory Yes are norn also very community-oriented Also Yes. i think it's common to see norn kids napping together in a big pile, usually after they've worn themselves out playing games outside. it makes sense practically (apes together warm) and socially (pack bonding good) but that's just my hc. growing up i used to share a bed with my cousins all the time so it's normal to me.

a young, naive not-yet-commander, with no real combat experience, has no point of reference to compare a "blaze of glory" to. but the way everyone talks about it, it must be a good thing. a wonderful thing. a reward fit for a life well-fought and a legend hard-earned. so they imagine it must feel like falling asleep surrounded by the people they love, who love them in turn.

i also wanted to lean into the viking/norse mythology influences with my word choice.

obligatory chair joke as the last line. for realsies though it’s meant to be an earnest appeal to the commander to take a break, to have a seat, but it’s also a challenge. are they willing to lean on their friends? are the bonds they’ve forged strong enough to hold their weight? are they willing to put their faith in someone else’s hands? are they brave enough to try? well. only one way to find out.

Consider Pillowfort.social!

I’m not going to go into the nitty-gritty of how Pillowfort functions, because others have talked about that and explained it much better than I can (I recommend reading @/vergesm’s post here for a more general Pillowfort overview). What I’m going to do is explain what I, personally, get out of Pillowfort and why I enjoy it.

To preface, I’m not being paid to make this post or promote Pillowfort or anything. I wouldn’t think that needs to be said, but people make things up sometimes so idk. I’m writing pro-Pillowfort propaganda because I genuinely like the place and want to see it thrive. If you want to take a look at my own fort and get a feel for the place, you can do so here.

So with that out of the way – let’s talk about it!

Pillowfort is quite a bit like Tumblr, in that it’s a blogging platform, but it’s got a few things that make it better than this hellsite imo. For one thing, you can post NSFW content there. Although I don’t draw much explicit stuff, it’s nice to be able to post art there without worrying I’ll get shadowbanned for a picture that’s just a lil too suggestive. It's nice to know that the option is there. Honestly, it’s freeing not to have to worry about that shit. And it’s also really cool that there’s a built-in system for marking certain posts as NSFW, because as well as being able to mark your own posts as NSFW, you can choose whether you want to see other people's posts marked as NSFW. And for minors, the ability to see NSFW content is automatically turned off. Pillowfort’s got a really good system for both allowing NSFW content and keeping it away from people who don’t want to see it. I really like that flexibility, and how that flexibility isn't detrimental to the users.

And speaking of being able to see or not see certain content, the content filtering is pretty solid. You’re able to block tags and even words in the body of a post, and like I said, you can control whether you want to see posts marked as NSFW. You can even control who sees your own posts! There’s blocking users, of course, but you can limit who sees your own posts even further than that. You can make them visible to anyone, visible only to logged in Pillowfort users, visible only to your followers or mutuals, or hell, even visible to you alone!! It’s cool to have that level of control, and I find it reassuring to know I have those options.

Another big appeal of Pillowfort, for me, is the userbase’s strong “don’t like don’t read” policy. A lot of the people there operate under the mindset of “as long as it’s fictional, whatever dude. I don’t have to like it, but you do you." There are still dipshits, of course, but it’s WAY better than the insane purity culture that’s developed here. I don’t have to worry about some wannabe-conservatives telling me I’m just as bad as Ted Bundy for [checks notes] sexualizing Michael Myers or some shit. Plus, this general userbase mindset is backed up by actual site policy! I’ve heard that Pillowfort is very swift in responding to reports of harassment – whether it’s fandom-based harassment or bigotry. I haven’t had any experience with this personally (and hopefully it’ll stay that way), but I’ve heard good things about it, and it makes me feel more comfortable being there.

Also, did I mention Pillowfort has an explicit anti-AI policy? AI generated images and writing are banned on the website, and staff made this decision once its userbase and community made it clear that they wouldn’t welcome that sort of shit. And GOD, does it make me feel so fucking good as a writer and artist to know that.

And that’s another thing – Pillowfort staff actually fucking listens to its userbase. The website is crowd-funded and relies on subscriptions and monthly donations to keep things running. And because it relies on its community, it relies on keeping the community happy. So complaints, bug reports, suggestions and alterations and things the users would like to see on the site – it’s all taken pretty seriously. And again, it’s just really nice to know that the staff of the place actually give a shit and are looking out for its community rather than trying to suck the dick of the biggest investor.

Really, the only problem I have with Pillowfort is the fact that it’s a bit small. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because the people there are lovely. But since a lot of people aren’t happy with Tumblr, and haven’t been happy with Tumblr for some time, I thought I’d just ask you guys – maybe consider it. Consider making a Pillowfort account. Consider making your own little fort, stringing up some colored lights and cool art and making yourself cozy. Consider offering some money, if you can spare it, because it’s genuinely a really cool place that I want to spend more time in and see prosper.

So far, I’ve had a lovely time there. It’s cozy and friendly and it feels like one of the few places where a queer artist like me is actually welcome. And I think a lot of Tumblr users might really like it too.

one day Logan and Remus are hanging out, and then Logan starts ranting about some smart person shit, and Remus is kinda bored but he'd felt worse and what Logan was saying was actually pretty interesting so he just sat there and would sometimes ask questions or compare what Logan was talking about to something gross and stuff.

then, Logans years of being brushed aside and his input being treated as a burden and only welcome when it was considered helpful kick in, and he suddenly stops talking and gets all "oh sorry you probably don't care about that" and "this is probably boring you, we can talk about something else if you want". Remus is VERY offended by this.

he goes off about how thats stupid and Logans stupid and he's such a fucking pussy for not talking and why does he think he's so annoying huh? is that a fucking challenge bitch? "boo hoo look at me I'm Logan Sanders and I think I'm soooooo special and that no one wants to hear he talk!" and thats fucking bullshit and it sucks and he sucks!

the whole time Logan is just extremely confused because this is the most negative reaction he has ever gotten to him not talking. and its all very angsty and projectiony and Logan feels weirdly appreciated and its very intrulogical. thank you for coming to my ted talk. (idk why this is so long. I might as well just write it into a fanfic at this point lol.)

Luffy’s one of those sleepers that go to sleep normal and wake up rapped in blankets under the bed with a horseshoe sized knot on the side of his face

But in all honesty he’s a wild sleeper

Cuddle wise he’s just as wacky

His way of cuddling is just him lugging his arms and legs over your body and calls it a day

Over all awful sleeper

Dear god help us all

I don’t know where to beging

This man is something else entirely

The only thing does constantly is train, drink sake and sleep

He sleeps so much that when you actually have to sleep he just stays up all night until 4am

Cuddle wise he’s very touchy feely

Like hands everywhere touching everything

The man has no regard for personal space ( I mean and why would you want him to)

Through our the day he’s all over you so it’s only natural that he’s like that at night as well

Like I said before, he’s very hands on so his hands are everywhere all at once it seems

Arms, head, legs, torso, Everything

On the plus side he runs warm which extends to his hands

He really like to sleep with his head either on your stomach, butt, or chest

But he REALY likes your stomach

Like a lot

Your like his human body pillow

All of this while his hands are firmly gripping your ass

Although sometimes his hands may wonder a little lower, all in all he’s a great cuddler

This man is an ELITE cuddler

Like big time

He’ll wrap his arms around your middle ( while one hand sneakily moves under your shirt to massage you boob)

But really cuddles how he loves, passionately

When sleeping he buries his face into the crook of you neck and inhales your scent while his hand is still in your shirt

In my mind he sleep talks in French

Idk know why but he whispers the weirdest shit while he’s asleep

Like bffr

Saying shit like “lover, no. Any deeper and it’ll burst” like sir WHAT!?

All in all amazing sleeper and cuddler
