i think it’s hard to trick hotch into doing anything, whether he wants to do it or not. he’s too perceptive and too “no nonsense” for that. like morgan, he’s more likely to submit to constant pestering with a fond, but begrudging, eye roll. he’s more likely to affirm boundaries, if only to uphold some half-assed attempt to cover up the fact that their boss is a complete pushover. but thats conditional and mood-dependent, so it’s a toss up at best.

and hotch has a lot more bullshit that he has to say “no” to. he’s given up trying to tell whether the requests are genuine or just to annoy him—mostly because he’s afraid of the answer. no, you cant run gambling ring at the round table after hours. no, we aren’t doing “booty short friday,” please go change. no, you cant play paintball in the bullpen. no, we're not installing a speaker system or rave lights in the jet.

ok i brought up scratch in the last ask and tbh now thats all im thinking about lmao. ig this is technically a horror ask game, so lets get into ttrue emo shit: what is the thing he is most afraid of doing? hurting his family: jack and the team. think of how much guilt he has any time one of the team is injured. he’d go to any lengths to protect them. we already saw that the initial fear scratch explores is the team dying in front of him. the concept of actually hurting them? terrifies him to his core.

i dont think anything would convince him to willingly do it. even if someone held a gun to jack’s head and said they’d pull the trigger unless hotch kills one of the team, he wouldnt ever make a move to hurt his family. it’s a line he absolutely will not cross. it’s something that’s physically ingrained in him at this point: when scratch tries to get him to shoot at his team under the influence of drug-induced delusions, hotch—even though we’ve seen that he’s susceptible to the drug—still doesnt do it. he’s incapable. and nothing is as heartbreaking as the fear in his voice when his trembling hands give the gun to rossi, begging “take it,” with the most distress and genuine horror we ever hear him speak with. its either because he’s still drugged and the command to shoot at the team remains, implying it really was an extreme mental feat to defy the order. or its because he’s so afraid at how close he got to actually doing it, showing how even the thought of hurting them was so debilitating it almost broke him.

the eye: what does your character not want anyone to know? how would they react to people finding out?

oh my god. his homelife. what else could there be? we get absolutely ZERO information about his childhood. and its not like the others are exactly keen on sharing the secret parts of their lives, but it comes out in one way or another. not so for hotch. he keeps that shit locked up tight.

everyone has their own take on hotch’s childhood but we can all agree he’s been abused in one way or another. because it’s something that hotch never says a word about, you know it has to be brutal. i want to keep the response relevant to the question, so i’m not gonna go into the specifics of what i think happened. but whatever it is, he wants to keep it far far away from the team. its an era of his life that he wants to leave firmly in the past—not something he ever wants to acknowledge.

it kills me that we never got an episode that drags them through hotch’s past, bc honestly i cant even imagine how hotch would react. there are just… so many options. is he away from the team, like morgan was? is he there as they piece it together, like with emily? is it something he actually has to tell them about bc theres no other way around it, like reid? whatever the sequence, the end result would be the same: he wouldnt fucking talk about it again. “embarrassed” or “upset” doesn’t quite cover it.. he would be ashamed. not that its anything they would shame him for, but its something he’s kept secret for so long that its unsettling for anyone else to know about it.

im just thinking about how he has no one in his life now who knows anything about his past. even the people he’s known for a long time, like haley or jess, don’t seem to know the extent of it. sean was too young to remember. everyone else on the team has someone from their childhood that they interact with at least occasionally (if we wanna get more specific, everyone else has parents they interact with at least occasionally). but hotch is worlds away from his past. i guess it just worked out that way, but its also probably at least somewhat intentional. and i think thats why its so distressing for anyone to find out. because not a single living person knows.

and then the bit with the fire right thats addict. thats addict slowly going from kneeling to standing, surrounded by purple fire

and on like, "kokoro" addicts hand is reaching towards like a blinding light

and then with all the. rhe villains running i replace that with those nifty fight sequences where one character is suddwnly another character, and idk theyre fighting like shadow demons or something symbolic

and ig bc fighting and story relevance it goes

squid -> cerul i think does fight monsters so yeah her -> sunny -> ash -> scar -> adrian -> rose -> quartz -> addict

AND YES SQUOD AND ADDICT BEING ON OPPOSITE ENDS IS INTENTIONAL TY

and ofc then theres the brief music thing where sol is looking at the eclipse but for this it would be addict pausing to look at the something

the camera like turns around them and now we see specifically rose and quartz fighting squid and adrian (respectively tho both teams def like, cover for each other and stuff. like ie quartz shoots at adrian and squid slices through the arrow in the air with her talons, before yk trying to hit rose again) and addict is framed as in the middle

but then the camera like zooms through the fighting, also past scar, cerul, ash, and sunny, and through landscapes again, and the title sequence ends on whats either a sunrise or sunset, hard to tell

and maybe addicts silhouette against the light yk bc Protagonist™

So here's my personal ranking of DMBJ adaptations, thanks @mejomonster for the idea :D

(but psst first if anyone seeing this post haven't seen it already, there's an interest check for a pingxie gift exchange! over here.)

1. Ultimate Note (2020)

So I wrote a long ass post about UN here, where I mainly talk about the Iron Triangle because they're the heart of DMBJ and their relationship is what makes or breaks an adaptation for me, all else equal. But thankfully UN also has good pacing, faithfulness to the original story (and honestly a smoother and less confusing way of portraying it, but thats not saying much), no exceptionally cringy added romance plot lines, female characters treated as well as they can be given they were fridged in the source material, and a cast and crew with a deep appreciation and love for the characters and story, making the most of what they could with a tiny budget and no promotion. (UN is now the most highly-rated DMBJ adaptation on douban!) The main cast is a bit green, no doubt, but the longer it goes on the better they get. (If you scroll through my #translation tag far enough you'll find stuff XYL and ZSX have said about their characters. XYL especially, really understands Zhang Qiling and I will always respect him for that, which is why he's my favorite Xiaoge.) I'm just eternally sad about the ending and that there probably won't be a S2 for the main story finale because NPSS won't sell the rights again.

2. The Lost Tomb 2 (2019)

Before UN came out, this was my favorite Iron Triangle. The Pangzi and Xiaoge friendship was also super cute here! A sorely underrated friendship, for sure. And I absolutely adore TLT2 Xiao Hua. He and UN Xiuxiu would make a great team. The entirety of the first half (undersea tomb) was remarkably true to the source material (despite being unnecessarily draggy at points), and I do like that they made the Bronze Tree arc more of an Iron Triangle thing than a Wu Xie solo mission like in the novel. But uh, the second half of this drama was just...really confusing lol with so many long shots of them trudging through snow endlessly. But it's a cute Pingxie and Iron Triangle. (Saw someone once say TLT2 is the fluffy Pingxie but UN is the angsty Pingxie, which......accurate tbh.) But...man...will TLT2.5 (Heavenly Palace) ever be released from jail ;;;;;; its supposedly already filmed (different cast) but can't air for...legal reasons? idk? ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

3. Time Raiders (2016)

A wacky movie that makes no logical sense whatsoever but God it was such a fun, wild watch lmao. Pingxie were so unnecessarily gay in this, and also TLT2 Pangzi is great as always. I liked A-Ning being a total badass as well. Movie gets a bit sad when you realize there's a deleted scene canonizing the movie as book!Wu Xie's wishful thinking and fanciful story he told because he misses his friends. In reality, Pan Zi and A-Ning are dead, his San-shu is missing, and he doesn't know if he'll see Xiaoge again (which is why TR!WX is always taking photos of him, I'd say).

4. Qinling Sacred Tree Donghua (2021)

So uh this still doesn't have official English subs (you can find it on a streaming site somewhere but I can't vouch for translation quality). But it's a pretty faithful adaptation of the Bronze Tree arc, but with a slight twist to make Xiaoge more relevant. (I'm still squinting at Liang-shiye.) Still largely a Wu Xie and Lao Yang duo mission, though. But the scenery in the donghua is gorgeous and the food looks really good too...and, like, it's a good and solid adaptation. I just wish it had been an Iron Triangle adventure 😅

5. Sha Hai (2018)

Qin Hao is an amazing Sha Hai Wu Xie. I love him, and the fact that ZSX posted a photo with him ;;;;;;;; my favorite Wu Xies ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; (fun fact: to this day, QH's Weibo pfp is of himself as Wu Xie!) But anyway. Yeah I mostly just love Wu Xie here and everything he's gone through and turned himself into now that Xiaoge is gone. There are several UN parallels because they were done by the same company (which is also why a lot of the actors are the same). Unfortunately, the whole plot was....??????? and I wasn't a fan of any of the romances, or any of the side characters in general 😅 Skipped...so much of it lol. Why did they do *gestures vaguely at the entire show* Man at least they had Three Days of Silence. Small mercies.

6. The Lost Tomb 1 (2015)

They did Pangzi so dirty, I'm sorry sweetheart. That aside, the OCs were also a big ?????? and the fact that they had the iconic Iron Triangle hotel fight so early...WITHOUT THE FULL IRON TRIANGLE????????? But TLT1 Pingxie were literally a case of love at first sight soulmates so that was sweet. Also the blood feeding. Nice 👌 This Xiaoge is probably what most of the tomb-robbing world (or very casual dmbj fans ig lmao) see when they think of Zhang Qiling: aloof, mysterious, terrifyingly strong, (and kinda 2000s emo-boy-looking for some reason???)

7. The Lost Tomb Reboot (2020)

Confusingly wild deviations from the original story, really cringy romances + fridged women, and unnecessarily dragged out plot aside, I just wasn't feeling the Iron Triangle in this one 😅 Nor was I a fan of the treatment of Xiaoge. (He was stolen from his mother as a baby and abused by the Zhang family ever since, used as a convenient bloodbag to get around tombs and he didn't even understand he was a human being with a heart who could want things until he met his mother again in Three Days of Silence, where he finally regained the "heart" given to him by his mother that the Zhang family had taken from him...and then the first thing he experienced was the loss of his mother. I think this was the only canonical instance of him crying. After that, he lived a life full of mostly loss and more trauma, being kidnapped, kept naked in a basket, and used as zombie bait when he lost his memories...and knowing all this about his past, Pangzi tells him to use his blood in a tomb, enthusiastically, without hesitation. Like...you don't tell your best friend to cut himself because you think his blood might be useful. Especially not your best friend who you know in his past has been abused just like that since birth by his blood-related "family".) I do, however, think all the actors did amazing jobs with what they were given and are very talented. The effects were also good and the music is fantastic too. I don't think I need to praise Z1L's acting because everyone knows how good he is, and he pulled off that hallucination scene where he saw Xiaoge die for him just beautifully 👌 And Xiaoge smiles! Also very cute.

So yeah that's all the adaptations I've seen! It's past 1:30am so I'm a bit rambly but 🤪🤪🤪

I was thinking about how they had Kato listed as the best dancer in the IG stories yesterday and how it feels like they are aggressively showing support to her or the actress as almost a response to everything. I dunno, it just feels deliberate or something.

Yep thats the vibe am catching and i think they are getting pressed no one is taking the bait. I dont think those anons defending kato are coming from wtfock but I won't be surprised if they whispered into someone’s ear to see what the general vibe is and guess what? We still dislike her a ton and dont want to see her on our screen. They are really trying to make this girl happen and they just dont get it. They ruined any chance of making her redeemable and now she is just a scurge on the remake. Like if I had an ear to a wtfock intern I would be honest and tell them tell your boss to utilize her as minimally as possible unless you want the hate fest to begin again. Just pay romi her check for showing up even if she just sits there drinking a coffee the entirety of s5. It would just be better for the fans and the overall vibe of the season because if they try to make her relevant the fans will blow up and start flooding them about using the season of woc to fix their racism. They had that moment last year and they failed. The best “fix” to their mistake is to give Nora 100% the limelight and push Romi completely aside. You had your moment and failed miserably wtfock. It’s time to move on the character is useless now.

Yo as the only Micheal Crew fan (prolly), can I just say I’m so fucking salty that he died how he did?

Homeboy’s been hinted at since the fourth episode in this entire goddamn series, he’s been repeatedly connected to the Leitner books (which I guess are less important now that we’ve met Jurgen Leitner and we’ve got Gerard but uggggghhhh), he’s got a cool lightning scar and backstory and everything!

And once we get to meet him? He’s so intriguing-he ‘s polite even as he forces Jon to just fall through the air, he has a great voice (both literally and writing wise), and once he explains his backstory it doesn’t dissapoint. You get the image of this scared child whose been searching for protection and meaning his whole life. This creature’s been following him ever since he’s gotten his lightning scar, you kinda get that it’s the personification of his past even if he connects it all back to the Vast. To an extent, he kinda describes his relationship with his scar and his journey in self discovery all as both finding meaning and acceptance in the Vast. The moment he figures out what’s been calling to him is also the moment he accepts his past and his trauma. It all makes sense and comes together.

What I also find particularly interesting the way he laments about never being able to remember the most important events of his life, as I feel it’s something we all can relate to. Traumatic or not, negative or positive, many of us have trouble recalling the most life-changing events of our lives. We feel frustrated over this, we beat ourselves up for it, it’s just apart of life. In Mike’s statement this is such a small detail but it’s one that resonates with me deeply.

They set up Micheal Crew in such an engaging light and make him feel so real. I will admit that I’m not sure how much more they could do with him as this episode tied up pretty much all loose ends in his story. That being said, I would’ve absolutely LOVED to see more of him! He has an intruging personality, a cool backstory, he could’ve been a neat reaccuring character or something.

But no! Daisy Fucking Tonner just needsa bust down the fucking door and be like “YO THIS BITCH HUMAN?” And Jon’s like “uhhh ig not” and Daisy’s like “WELL THAT MEANS HES GONNA CATCH THESE HANDS.” AND JUST FUCKING SHOOTS HIM???

FUCK THAT NOISE.

YOU BUILD UP A CHARACTER OVER THE COURSE OF THREE SEASONS, WE MEET HIM AND HE GIVES US HIS LIFE STORY, THERES STILL SOME ROOM FOR HIM TO GIVE US ANSWERS OR SOME SHIT, THEN YOU HAVE THE A U D A C I T Y TO JUST YEET DAISY IN AND HAVE HER SHOOT HIM OUTSIDE?

I am fully aware that I’ll wake up tomorrow and deem all of this as invalid and unreadable, I just needed to get this all off my chest. In all honesty the main reason I’m upset is because the Vast is my personal favorite entity and Micheal’s statement is a good summation of why

People affected by the Vast are just that-people. Well, all statement givers are people, but the Vast’s statments I find are much more grounded and down to Earth. They aren’t as out there or over the top like the Corruption or the Stranger. They’re just little ‘tweaks’ in someone’s perspective that shakes their core. It takes mundane occurances and pushes them to their extreme. All the Vast did in “High Pressure” was make someone feel as though they were sinking forever and forced them underwater. It’s some you could probably picture happening to yourself more clearly then say, being attacked by War Ghosts. (NOT bashing on War Ghosts btw, they’re just a different brand of spooky.) The type of fear that the Vast victims have is also kinda different to me. I’m not sure how well I can explain it but best I can describe it is that it feels like geunine trauma that someone with that phobia would experience? I still don’t think that’s quite right but take “A Long Way Down” for instance, where the statement giver’s brother suffers from Acrophobia. That’s a real boy with Acrophobia! I feel who he is as an actual person as I follow his life, I know his worst nightmare, and once you see what happens to him, you completely feel both from him and his brother. Or in “Freefall” where you see a mother mourn for her son’s trauma and death. She saw something he loved suddenly turn him so, so afraid then saw the very thing he feared swallow him up.

It’s just any average person greiving their loved one’s trauma or being pushed to a limit you can see yourself being pushed to. It’s all very grounded in reality and makes it all feel that more real. And I feel like Micheal Crew’s statement just summed that up so well. He’s such a perfect face for what I love about the Vast. He’s just a person at his core, who was scared and needed guidance.

It’s just that the way it ended and how adruptly he was killed left a sour taste in my mouth.

uh hi, i used to be in the fandom in 16-18 but then grew disinterested ig, but i came back (boredom+still loving characters) and im so confused on everything. mcd is still similar to what i remember but then i havent watched the revamp, but im so incredibly confused on mystreet, i kinda remember the emerald stuff and aph getting a maid cafe and gene was there?? idk thats all i remember and the wiki isnt helpful, can you explain mystreet please?

TLDR; Aaron beats up a prick who had a crush on Aph in highscool. Mentioned prick tries and fails to get revenge. Aaron is exposed to be an Ultima WW (a werewolf with powers) so everyone hunts for him when he just wanted to have a nice vacation. Aaron dies a total of 3 times then gets amnesia. The end. This is very long bc Mystreet is very confusing. Moving on:

Mystreet seasons 1-3 are a slice of life take, and have no revelance to the plot of seasons 4-6. Phoenix Drop High, two prequel series to Mystreet, are about the high school years of the cast. PDH S1 is also not relevant, but in S2 we introduced to Ein, a werewolf. He likes Aphmau, but he was also pretty power driven, and acts like a prick because of this. Aaron finds out and gets into a fight with him, and Ein is no longer able to romance/manipulate Aphmau.

MSS4 is set in a lodge in the mountains with Aaron and friends (Garroth, Lucinda, and newbie Kim). They are planning to renovate the lodge, so Aaron can legitimately earn money and take Aph on a vacation. Zane and Aphmau eventually turn up, but Kim is possessed by a ghost residing in the house (who is appropriately named Ghost). They don’t do much with this, but it’s pretty sexy.

Anyway, Michi (who works nearby?), Lucinda, Aphmau and Zane are put under a trance - the effect of a forever potion. After a period of time the effects of a forever potion become permanent. Together they lead Aaron and the remainder of his friends to another lodge, where the mastermind of this mind control is. It’s Ein! And he’s doing all of this to get revenge for what happened in high school. He wants Aaron to turn Aph into a werewolf, because surprise! Aaron is an Ultima WW and can turn humans into WW and visa versa. We find out Aph is now under two forever potion effects, one to make her love Ein and one to make her hate Aaron. This eventually leads to Aaron falling off a cliff and dying. Irene talks to him and revives him, and he goes to fight Ein again. Aaron and friends try to break Aphmau out of the potion effects, and they do, but not before Aaron is stabbed and almost dies again. End of S4.

Aphmau’s year is an inbetween of S4/5. She can’t see Aaron because he’s pretty much died twice and needs to recover. She is very sad.

MSS5 is another slice of life series, the gang from before + KC, Katelyn, Travis, Aaron’s parents, Melissa and a Wolfpack from high school go to the vacation island! It’s like one big theme park. Aaron and Aph are reunited. Later on, Aaron goes WW mode because he saw Ein, and accidentally turned Garroth into a WW. Aphmau wants to experience WW racism so she is also asked to be turned into a WW. Aaron proposes. S5 ends.

S6, the latest season, is when everything goes more crazy. Aaron is revealed to the public as the Ultima WW, so a bunch of people are trying to hunt him down. They spend some time in hiding, then some decide to go to a masquerade with the rest of the public(???). After this, they are found out and have to run again. Melissa (Aaron’s Sister) is shot and declared dead by everyone. Aph+Zane find where the ww in hiding are, but Ein is there (he lived ofc). Aph is held hostage, Travis is possessed by the person who possessed his dad, and Garroth and Katelyn are now being controlled by the forever potions.

Turns out some of the parents thought it would be cool to make their kids drink forever potions that make them strong (???? And also under someone’s control ????). Aaron finds Aph with Ein, and turns Ein back into a WW to save aph. Because of all of this, KC is almost killed by Garroth and Aph is actually killed by Ein, who had laser powers now. Aph is revived by Irene’s daughter, Alina, who gave up half her heart to see her mother again, but she gives that to her reincarnation so w/e. Aaron goes apeshit and kills a bunch of people, and is captured. They wanted to kill him for his relic? But they end up killing Irene and Aaron’s dad instead. When everyone is healed and reunited, they have an epic fight with the Demon Warlock who possessed Travis, using the divine relics of the reincartions that would have them. Our gang ends up winning, but some people are injured both physically and mentally, so Zane can’t remember peoples names and Aaron has amnesia about everything. Melissa is also alive. That’s the end of S6.

oh my god regs stop claiming old identities to excuse being a bigot now. idc if u thought you were ace or trans or nonbinary, if you Admit that you arent now and openly Hate and Reject these identities, you no longer get to have a relevant attachment to it and parade it around like a trump card. even though you thought you were, you are not actually that identity. you are saying this yourself. so this shit doesnt count for anything. you may have used the labels and been in the community, you may have had vague experience with it, and thats fine to talk about and see it as something personal, but you dont get to be vocal about it as if you are Still There or relate with it. thats an offense to the people that are actually that identity i mean, you wholeheartedly admit you literally Arent Us but you’re still trying to talk over us? FOR us? lol no, you dont get to pretend you saw the corruption of an identity you literally didnt have, and odds are the reason you felt uncomfortable was bc you fucking admit you were not actually that identity. like. of course you’re going to be uncomfortable when you get your identity wrong and are unknowingly in the wrong environment. how much more simple could this be. you made a mistake and are unfairly blaming others for it.

cis ppl dont get to be vocal about the trans community bc they questioned their gender previously, non aces dont get to talk for the aspec community, binary trans people dont even get to have opinions on nonbinary trans people, what you may see inside these communities is automatically skewed once you can look back and realize you were not actually one of them. you need to acknowledge this. to be specific ig, internalized homophobia has to be fought on all social levels but is still in the end a completely personal based problem and therefore cis gay people you are on the most basic level like everybody else responsible for your own misunderstandings of yourself and these other identities, and most importantly, you have to recognize that you have the ability to DAMAGE them when you are trying to talk about them but confess you dont actually see yourself in them. if you change your identity you change your community, end of story. you dont get to keep talking about the old one like its evil of them that you chose to be in it out of ignorance. idk like. i saw a terf blog just this Morning that called themself a ‘de-transitioning trans woman / gay man’ and. i am just so Tired of this shit like not to be blunt but no you are not you are a hateful cis guy who had some trouble figuring out ur identity and to hate trans women now makes you a transphobe no matter what your past was like bc you are cis NOW. yall you dont get to just. collect up a bunch of identities so you can hold onto them and feel you can talk abt any issue without listening to others and be free from criticism like even broadly you have to pick Something here and i think when you decide to Hate an old identity you’ve made it clear which side you’re on. you are not the same as the people in these groups, there was always a distinction between you and them, you admit this, you agree with this, so stop acting like you get it. stop using YOUR mistakes and misunderstandings against harmless minorities. again, im not saying if you de-transition or change label you cant talk about your old experiences but... once you realize the truth about yourself, all your experiences with that prior identity are inherently personal and not community ones now bc You were the person that was in the the wrong One and you are switching for a Reason so its not ‘your community’ anymore and frankly, never was. you were always looking at it as someone who wasnt really a part of it, for the love of god, use some brains and recognize that

Med Rewatch Series (#1)

Right, monkey brain said no sleep no rest, only suffering at the hands of med.

I am going to start with the first episode of S2: Soul Care. Reasoning? I need to check if Latham references Ava in his first interaction with Connor.

If my memory serves me right, when Connor is passed over to Latham for his fellowship, Latham says that he was not his first choice. In fact, his first choice was a brilliant surgeon from South Africa. In the first episode of S2, a season where Ava Bekker is only introduced with one line at the end of the last episode.

If I remember correctly and Latham does actually say that in the first ep of s2, it will be huge for the continuity (and my theory that I came up with today, if you’re interested in following this you should really read that really long post that came a little before this where the basis of the theory is laid out).

Also in rewatching this I see more of Sarah which, again, I have not seen in two years, and she was the reason I became invested in the show, and the reason I stopped watching after she left.

And all of this even before I start the episode.

There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my brain it literally hurts. I think i’m getting a headache. I’m already really regretting this, this cannot be healthy for me.

-proud of ethan. proud of my boy (did you know that adam jacobs who played aladdin on broadway was in a s3 episode? fun facts) (fun fact: did you know that ava is the only main character on the show who’s status is now deceased? I’ll shut up now.)

- i find noah incredibly annoying, especially bc he tries to overshadow reese (my fav) but also just bc hes spoiled [that thing that said that one of the biggest mistakes med made was not having sarah get the emergency med residency at the end of s1 comes to mine, and the fact that noah got his residency easy peasy] - but, i will say that the moment at the end of this season where noah and reese dance together at the party is very adorable. (pre reesker brain showing lmao I really did love sarah with my whole heart) (moreover my snapchat memories were filled with just recordings of reese scenes lmaooooo)

-okay at this point I need to stop once i get to the potential ava thing bc what is happening we’re not even two minutes in why is this so long. (so many thoughts)

- i find will annoying but,,, he is kind of nice to look at. and what i mean is like facial acting (i am a lesbian). like. just. don’t speak. and when he’s being a good character he’s fine. it’s very few and very far between ig

-okay so i actually watched s1 after i watched s2 which is so weird to think about. like that means that i liked s2 so much that i BOUGHT THE DVD FOR S1. yeah. I liked it that much (it really only means I was that much of a simp for sarah). but it also means that technically i watched s1 after i met ava?? like i honestly had NO CLUE what was in my future. did young me ever think she was going to stay up late at night, avoiding history hw while analyzing a defunct character from this show on a whim? a character i was super annoyed with at the beginning? who has no become a huge part of my personality? honestly? no. no she did not.

-and the story with downey was so jarring. and the story with zanetti. like i think i first started watching with the first ep of s2 (the one im talking about rn) and i was a bit lost. so going back and watch s1 to like connect the dots. but i never expected the dots to look like that. its like each season of this show is a completely different show from all the other seasons. like i’ve said before, this show is a headache. but literally latham please come and end this for now.

- like i had absolutely no clue who downey was going into this. and they they started talking like ‘oh yeah he killed his attending’ and i was just like ‘damn bro ill cheers to that’

- that’s literally ava’s first line actually. “i heard your girlfriend went insane and you murdered your attending.” - which was why she was hated at first. that was literally her first line to connor which is like, so hilariously rude that it was instantly iconic.

-also HAHAHAHAH CUE FUCKING ANGST ABOUT CONNOR HURTING EVERYONE AROUND HIM WTF BRO THE EFFECT YOU HAVE ON PEOPLE

- but i’m also sad now. --- “I heard your girlfriend went insane.” Oh. Oh, sweetie. Ava... No. --- but why does s2 ava (all two lines) foreshadow s4 ava in so many ways. like literally what were the writers on.

-ah yes. the return of baghdad. been a long time since i heard that one, but it is easily one of my favorite running things about med. its just a little detail but the nick name is like perfect. (when i read fanfic where the chars are actually doing doctor stuff in the hospital it makes me light up) the WORLD BUILDINGGGGG. but whatever

-this is the girl who has the fake baby right? that was a really good ep (bc sarah content. can you see my favorites? for the same reason the one where the girl has split personalities easily ranks high with me.) oh wait this is the one where the dad like dies but then comes back for a split second to see his grand child. there’s not really a lot I can say about that, but the fact that i remember it vividly is... weird.

-okay but I actually love the ED in this show. I love how the show is centered around the ED and not the OR like greys. its fast paced, you see a lot about the characters really quickly (one of the reason’s connor’s intro to the hospital in the pilot is certified iconic in my mind [his interactions with will are gold]). the team works well together (usually, when things are good. - which is another reason I hated the show more as time went on. The personal lives interfered more and more and more with their work as time went on. it got so annoying). but like right here will just calls maggies name and maggie is just On It. I love it. I love the fast pace. it’s why this show got me to come back. so many things happen, it overloads my brain, like the way a video game works y occupying all of your attention.

-when is the dad gonna pass out i’m just waiting

That’s an actual quote, from Latham. For those who are wondering, Groote Schuur is a famous hospital in, you guessed it, South Africa. This is where I’m calling the episode. This is all I needed.

I just want to restate. This is the first episode of season 2. Ava Bekker is introduced to the show in the last episode of season 2. What does this mean, my friends? It means everything.

For those of you who stuck through to the end, I am very thankful. Here we have probably the first piece of evidence to my theory, at least chronologically.

I, personally, think it’s absurd I remembered this point, but I did. That point, that line, presently, watching this episode with no idea of what the future holds, is only there to tell us that Latham and Connor are not going to agree. But this is the single greatest piece of foreshadowing med has ever done.

Med has never planned anything. I feel confident when I say that. Look at their storylines. They are literally on fire, and every decision the characters make reads like the writers going ‘we have no idea how we made it this far, we thought we would get stopped like ten steps ago.’

When has med ever planned things more than a few episodes in advanced, honestly? Almost never, and going a full season sitting on a plot point, that’s major. This was the first time med has ever planned something miles in advance.

In all honestly, yes I am probably giving the med writers a lot more credit than they deserve. It’s quite possible that as the season progressed they just decided connor needed a new love interest or at least a new dynamic, so they could have just easily looked back and thought ‘oh, hey, here’s a fun little thing we said earlier in the season, wouldn’t it be fun if it paid off?’ That could be true.

Here’s why it probably isn’t. The med writers have no respect for their own continuity. you really think that, in order to come up with a whole new character, they went back to the first episode of the season and paid off a line that is said in less than 2 seconds? no way. Bull. Shit.

honestly, it is probably equally unlikely that either of these things happened. The med writers don’t look back at their story. It’s true, but they also don’t plan things in advance either.

here’s the thing, the more i write, the more absurd it starts to sound. Yeah. Sure. the med writers sat on a character for an entire season, that’s totally a thing that happened and not sarcasm. When pigs fly. everyone knows med is impulsive and messy. But what I am saying is that they planned one thing. One thing.

Ava has an accent. That was a commitment. A pretty uncommon one too. South Africa is such an out of the box choice that god its barely on the map. It asks a lot of someone to act hard while also doing an uncommon accent. If the med writers just decided they needed to give connor a new dynamic, they could have made it a n y o n e. Yeah, sure it would have been nice to have the latham dynamic with the new character, but it would have been so much easier to just create a new character that doesn’t have such a commitment. We all know people who play opposite of Connor Rhodes do not stay around that long.

There is absolutely no reason Connor’s s3 love interest had to be the girl from South Africa. It could have literally been anyone. They could have kept Robin on. They could have made the new character not have so many specific requirements.

At this point, I’m pushing this really hard. Yeah, obviously Ava was planned from the beginning of s2. She had to be. It’s way too specific to be anything else.

What I’m pointing out here is med has never done that before. (at least to my knowledge, if i’m wrong please tell me i don’t want to be a fool) They have never had such a concrete plan for a character, so much as to tease them a full season before they were introduced.

I’m saying, that Ava was special. She was the only character who was teased ahead of her arrival. The one who they knew they wanted, other than the originals, and honestly saying the ‘knew what they wanted to do with the originals’ is being generous. But Ava was different. They had big plans for Ava.

It’s undeniable. Ava was the only character who was planned and teased ahead of her arrival. Ava has such a different style and character than anyone else on the show. She was always planned to be, even when she was just being teased, a rival to connor, meaning she could stand her own against him (or without him).

Now of course, the med writers forgot this when writing s4 and s5. But for the purposes of the important things, all that really matters are the two mentions in s2, and what happens in s3. (for the theory at least).

In conclusion: think about how odd it is that Ava was the only character that was planned over the course of the show. Like sure the characters are planned, but never this far in advance. Med writers don’t really plan anything. I would be shocked if they did anything but through a dart at a spinning wheel. But they had plans for Ava, and they had plans for s3, when she was good.

Think about how odd it is that the med writers had a character planned from the start of s2, that they sat on for a whole season. They never, ever did something so slow and deliberate. Never. It goes against their formula. Like a fucking shark, they have to be moving or they die, at least in their heads. But Ava was always a change to the formula. They had a plan for s3.
