Question for older Critters: Were people this skeptical of long-game ships in previous campaigns?

I started watching campaign 2 during quarantine and didn’t really join the community till campaign 3 started. While Imodna and Dorym are probably the most popular ships of this campaign, they get backlash too. Mostly from people who think there’s no way that it could happen. Even when cast members allude to it both in and out of the game, people will either put their heads in the sand or say it seems forced.

Were fans like this about Fjord and Jester? Jester flirted with Fjord from the beginning and we didn’t know Fjord’s feelings till the end of the campaign. They talked about it on Talks Machina as well, but did people call it forced then?

Prior to recent events, I saw a lot of people saying they felt Laudna seemed uncomfortable with Imogen’s crush on her (ngl, I think they were projecting their own feelings about the ship on to Laudna). Did people say that about Fjord?

I’m sure all the major ships have their haters, and idk what Imodna haters are saying right now (I am quite literally on cloud nine and cannot hear them), but I can’t help but notice this particular brand of criticism directed at two queer ships.

It reminds me of Korrasami back when season 4 of the Legend of Korra aired. Obviously there was studio pushback to keep that relationship censored, but people still refused to read the subtext that was there. And here, we have bafta award winning actor Laura Bailey making subtle, intentional choices to make it clear she’s playing the long game, looking forlornly in the distance with every gay thought she has, as well as king of angst Liam O’Brien pining into a walkie talkie rock about once a month and people are just like “I love strong, same sex friendships”. I just really think if Imodna was a straight ship, way less people would have been skeptical about it.

And on the meta side of things, do people really not think the players talk about this stuff outside of the game? Like do they really think Marisha hadn’t long since given Laura the go ahead to attempt a romance? These are things that have to be communicated about as both players and actors. Making sure everyone is comfortable first is of the upmost importance, and these people are close friends and long time coworkers. They trust one another and are professionals at their craft. Idk, I just feel like this part never gets taken into account on either side.

Ok, I think I’m done ranting. These were just some thoughts and questions that’ve been brewing well before we had a huge sapphic win, I just needed to purge them from my system. Anyways, I fucking love this show, petty ship squabbles aside. Let me know what you guys think.

As if it were any other way, he’ll mutter what it is under his breath trying to hide his blush, but you think it’s adorable

Ashton 💙

It's surprisingly cold out, so they wrap you up in one of their oversized heavy jackets and whisks you away to the market. It's a comforting weight, and it makes you both feel giddy and mischievous for the day ahead. Ashton brings you to a tacky general store full of useless trinkets and unusual items, let's you browse through the aisles to your heart's content. Purchases you one really expensive thing that caught your eye at a better quality shop, and manages to swipe a few cheaper knickknacks from vendors who give you grumpy attitudes on your special day. Holds your hand and kisses you stupid every chance he has, insistent and teasing.

Chetney 💙

You can't seem to find Chet at breakfast, which slightly dampens your mood while the rest of the party chime in and wish you a good birthday. You spend the day indulging yourself as you see fit - snacking on treats and buying that magical item you wanted, but it's a little lonely. That is until you hear a running and a shriek behind you, and the gnome almost knocks you off your feet. He fumbles with something in his hand, nearly dropping it several times due to the splinters at his fingertips, and he spouts apologies of not seeing you earlier and excuses of attempting perfection. You're at a loss when he presents a beautfully carved ring, and can't help but pull him in for a tight hug, his arms curling around your neck.

Dorian 💙

You're woken up to ticklish and energetic kisses being pressed under your eyes and following the shape of your face, the slope of your nose and the apples of your cheeks. Dorian's smile can be heard in his tuneful humming - you don't even have to open your eyes to know that. He helps you dress into something new and a lil bit fancy for the occasion, cooing all about his plans for the day - your favourite dinner, a show, maybe drinks with the rest of the party followed by a stroll about the town, arm in arm with your cheek pressed to his shoulder. He serenades you throughout the day just to see you smile shyly, pulls out your chair and keeps your glass full, and playfully lifts spoonfuls of dessert to your lips only to steal a kiss after.

Fearne 💙

You think you're being smooched awake by a beautiful faun, but when you open your eyes it's in fact Little Mister who is nibbling on your nose with a happy chirp. You laugh and huddle up with the familiar for a little longer until Fearne finds you both and joins the cuddle pile, giving you a proper kiss. She places a crown woven of flowers and ribbons on your head, adjusts it here and there until she deems it perfect before she declares you gorgeous and orders you to get ready for a day of shenanigans. This includes going to fancy boutiques and trying on shirts, dresses, scarves, hats etc. (and casually walking out without paying), sight seeing around town and sharing the most scrumptious and tooth-rottingly sweet cupcakes you can find.

Imogen 💙

She storms into your bedroom at the crack of dawn, gears you up in comfortable trousers and boots. Your eyes are still bleary from sleep and it's dark outside, but you have no choice but to wake up a bit and wrap your arms around Imogen's middle tightly when she commands her horse to take off at a very sudden and fast pace. You find yourself laughing, her hair tickling your face as the world whips by you, the horse ride so invigorating and spontaneous to start your day. Eventually, you settle down with a makeshift picnic-breakfast on a hill under a tree, cuddled up as the sun rises. She has your head in her lap and trails her finger so lightly across your face in little motions that you end up dozing off.

Laudna 💙

She perches at the foot of your bed with an almost nervous energy while you unwrap her present. You smile down at the package and begin to peel the parchment away reverently while she patiently watches. Just as Laudna insists it's nothing special, you softly gasp and lift up the handmade doll from the paper - with woolen hair styled in such a familiar way, and button eyes that match your own, the figure is undoubtedly an imitation of yourself. Scraps of cloth have been lovingly stitched together to resemble your signature armour and robes, and Laudna squeals with happiness when you launch yourself at her and fall to the floor. She scrambles for Pâté and Sashimi, who both greet and promise your doll a fun day is in store their fun-scary friend.

Orym 💙

He's planned you a party. Not a grand social event to rival that of lords and princes, but a party nonetheless with your favourite people in attendence. There's food and music and dancing, a roaring fire and friendly faces. Orym somehow managed to get in contact with some of your family and allies from before joining Bell's Hells, and even if they couldn't make it, he has their birthday messages and letters wrapped in a box for you to read once the day is over. He wipes the most delicious cake crumbs and frosting away from the corner of your mouth when he sits down at your side at the head of the table, eyes shining with so much warmth and affection you just about melt.

BONUS: Lord Ariks Eshteross 💙

You wake up in the early hours of the morning to so many wonderful smells oh my god. There's rummaging and clattering of bowls and utensils downstairs that you 100% know is coming from the kitchen, and as you slip out of bed and throw on a robe, you notice a small little present on your bedside table. Lord Ariks spoils you with a hot drink waiting at your table setting, sugary pastries and bitesize cakes, and fondly presses his lips to your knuckles when you join him for breakfast.

I've been shipping them for ages, but I haven't thought of what that's called before.

Imorian seems the most natural. For a fun version, I thought Lightning Storm might be appropriate.

Bells Hells 90 AU notes part 2!

Character (1/2) rundowns heehoo

- Imogen Temult (2nd year) is a country girl and used to live in an even smaller town, but left to come to a quaint college town. She has chronic migraines and mostly keeps to herself. She is a teachers pet and in school for veterinarian training and equine studies.

- Back home, which is about a 5 hour drive, she has a horse name Flora who she adores, but her relationship with her dad is a bit strained, so her visits aren’t usually for long. When her dad leaves for whatever reason though, Imogen is always happy to take time off and take care of the house while he’s gone.

- Roommates with Fearne Calloway

- Laudna B. (2nd year, technically 3rd) is a transfer student who’s living with a host family (Zhudanna) and is very outgoing, despite being slightly offputting due to her lanky, pale figure. She’s in school for interior design, but is heavily interested in fashion and other crafty programs. She and Imogen were best friends throughout most of high school before Laudna abruptly moved back to the city. Now transferred to Imogen’s college, she’s hoping to leave the city behind and rekindle her friendship… and get a degree i guess

- Has a rat named pâté

- No one knows too many solid facts about Fearne Calloway (2rd year), but she came to the town’s high school junior year and has been hanging around ever since. It can be assumed she’s well travelled and quite possibly only at college for the parties. She must be pursuing some degree here, because she disappears randomly, but then again, Imogen has seen Fearne in veterinarian lectures, and Fearne is most definitely not on that roster. Fearne’s also a bartender at the nearest campus bar, no one’s quite sure how she hasn’t failed out.

- Fearne resorts to hypothetical violence often. “I’ll kill you.” “We should kill them” is just a thing she says. She says it very nonchalantly in a way that if you didnt know her you’d laugh it off. Its the deadpan eyebrow raise that follows that usually throws everyone off

- Fearne LOVES jazz. Jazz is chaos. Imogen has to live with Fearne and her jazz records which can be a challenge.

- Has a cat named Little Mister

- Ashton Greymoore (2rd year) is a fashion student, which is how they met Laudna. They’re minoring in music theory an a couple other classes they insist are ‘punk rock’. They also work part time at the campus bar alongside Fearne. The two are quite close. Ashton attends most of his classes, but some days are a ‘go hang out with Fearne, listen to jazz and smoke’ kind of day. No one knows Ashton like Fearne, and vice versa.

An army had come to Skyhold. A red one.

As she watched, the portcullis dropped with a distant clang and the drawbridge that connected Skyhold to the mountain trail began to lift. The clarion warning was cut off in a flurry of arrows and magic as the mass advanced onto the bridge, but it had been enough to do its job. They were sealed in. Unless Corypheus himself showed up with his dragon, they could outlast a siege. Granted, she didn’t think they would get that lucky. He was coming. She had no doubt of it.

She didn’t bother to stare, but went back into her room to don her armor and grab her bow. She cursed the number of stairs she had to go down just to reach the Great Hall, but managed them without tripping in her haste. Bull and Dorian were already waiting for her, armed and ready. Battle plans would come, but first things first.

“Get the civilians below. Into the old ballroom. Solas can direct them to safe places from there. There’s a ton of passages and ways to escape. He knows them all.”

“On it, Boss,” Bull said, taking off at a dead run. He could move astonishingly fast when he wanted to, and few would dare get in his way when he did.

“D, you and Vivienne see how many mages are in the tower that are battle ready. I would assume there’s Venatori out there.”

“Yes. It’s Haven all over again, isn’t it?”

“Hopefully not.”
