The day tumblr stans will stop being chronically online is the day I will finally like this fandom. Goofy aah people think their opinions matter?

Last year everyone adored Ayato on this platform but after a certain ahem cult ahem of people joined, I can sense they’re secretly having beef with Ayato and are sending mean anons to Ayato fans for some jealousy reason.

Granted he is not my personal best boy but he’s DiaLovers’ best boy for a fact and the hype he started getting is pretty much deserved. In a series of games that’s a bit dead, I’m glad he’s able to keep it relevant not only for the DiaLovers fans. Don’t mind delulus saying bad things about him, those only exist on this platform anyway and are just seeking for attention and approval from random strangers.

I believe that the Ayato hate train began with Youngblood and picked up steam this year after the release of the Meow Meow vampire art. Many people made fun of Ayato's appearance and blamed him for FaVoRiTiSm , despite the fact that everyone in Japan adored him there. I don't know why, but the DL Tumblr fandom is completely out of touch with everything DL-related. They have no idea that Rejet simply creates Ayato content as a marketing ploy; in fact, Japanese fans are literally the ones who request it. In 2020, Ayato was stated as fans’ top choice and got invited as a co-star with a national idol at Nino-san, which was broadcasted on the second largest television corporation in Japan. If people hadn’t recommended him so much, he wouldn’t have ended up there… it’s not that hard to understand.

This has the same vibe as those kpop fans who always complain about how their ult group is underrated but don’t even stream their songs, instead they spend their time criticizing bigger groups for what??

I’m not forcing anyone to love Ayato but at least give me good reasons to dislike him. I understand not liking ALL Diaboys but isn’t it hilarious how some people would give you a litany of reasons why they can't stand Ayato, but when you look at their bias, he did the same (or worse) things as (than) Ayato? If you truly dislike those actions, at least pick a side, lol. I honestly don’t hate any Diaboy (though I don’t agree with their behavior all the time) but even if I did, I wouldn’t throw shade at that one character out of the blue only to piss of his stans.

And I swear, it's incredibly annoying how some people would tear Ayato down when asked about their favorite character/ship/route, etc., even though he has absolutely NOTHING to do with the question or he isn’t even the main topic of the question. Saying things like, "Yeah, I like this character because, unlike Ayato (just an example hehe)—" or "No hate towards Ayato but — *proceeds to mischaracterize and hate on him*" are examples of uncalled hate speech. Literally why use HIM most of the time as an example when talking about negative things?? At this point that’s not even a coincidence anymore, but a pattern, which is truly giving fan behavior.

Such people are really the worst. Reminds me of how some fans still think it’s okay commenting stuff like “This is great but I don’t like *inserts thing the OP obviously likes*” or “Not trying to be mean but *starts being mean*”. Respectfully, who even asked for your opinion? Mind your own business and learn basic etiquette.

“Aren't you going to say anything or what?” Kris practically spat out as they walked through the door of their apartment.

“What do you want me to say, huh? That I'm sorry?” Bojan laughed dryly.

“I guess that would be a good start.”

“Well, I'm not going to apologize for expressing my opinion on your idea.” He crossed his arms over his chest, facing the guitarist and mirroring the other's defiant look.

“Oh that’s what we’re calling it now?” Oh, now Kris was even more pissed off. “Is humiliating me in front of all the guys and Žare called ‘expressing your opinion’ now or what?”

“Is saying that I don't like the idea you proposed called ‘humiliating’ you?” He countered.

“You did not just say you didn't like it, Bojan. You said it was fucking stupid and that I should now better after all these years. In front of fucking everyone.” Kris' blood was starting to boil.

He knew perfectly well that they were struggling to come up with ideas for the new song; they were all very stressed and it was clearly noticeable. But that didn't give Bojan any right to treat him - or anyone - like that and behave like an absolute dickhead.

“You know what,” he continued before letting the singer say anything. “Since you clearly only like your own ideas, why don't you try going solo again?”

“Oh trust me, I will,” Bojan spat out, annoyed.

And that was Kris' last straw.

“No, you fucking won't,” he said, grabbing Bojan by the belt and pulling him close, smashing their lips together in a kiss, almost hard enough to bruise.

Bojan's hands went straight to the guitarist's jacket, gripping it tightly in his fists, pulling him even closer if that was even possible.

Kris bit down hard on Bojan's lower lip, causing him to open his mouth to let out a deep groan. At this, the younger grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled on it, exposing his neck and immediately sucking a mark there.

Bojan gasped as Kris left hickeys all around his neck and below his jaw, without loosening the grip he had on his hair.

Then, Kris pulled away and turned him around roughly, pushing him against the wall with his own body and pressing his crotch against the other's ass, who whimpered loudly. A string of moans and curses escaped from their mouths when he started grinding on it.

“You want that, love?” he teased, biting the back of Bojan's neck. “Is that what you wanted all along?”

The singer groaned.

Kris pulled his hair again, forcing him to look him in the eye and repeated, “I asked you a question, Bojan. Is this what you wanted?”

“Fucking hell- yes Kris! That's what I wanted. God I need you so bad. Now, please, please do something.” He confessed between quick, shaky breaths.

“Well, too bad. I just want cuddles today.”

And, with a grin on his face, he let go of Bojan completely and walked to the living room, leaving him panting heavily and painfully hard in his pants, leaning against the wall.

Fucking jerk.

50. …out of love.

They had been strolling around a lake, holding hands and admiring the beautiful spring landscape, full of blooming flowers that gave it a nice touch of color.

At one point, Nace began to pick up some flowers.

“What are you doing, Nacko?” Jan asked, curious.

“Picking up flowers,” he said simply.

“Yes, I can see that,” he laughed. “I mean why are you doing it.”

“To make you a flower crown, obviously,” Nace smiled.

“Oh.” Jan could already feel a small blush creeping up his cheeks. “Wait, I want to make you one too!”

Once they had picked enough flowers, they looked for a slightly clearer spot and sat down on the ground, facing each other.

Nace began braiding them together with ease, already forming the shape of the crown, while Jan was having trouble getting it started. He uttered an exasperated grunt, making Nace let out an amused chuckle.

“How come you can braid your hair perfectly and still don’t know how to make a simple flower crown?”

“Well at least my hair doesn't fall apart when I try to braid it,” he sighed resignedly, throwing away the flowers in his hands.

Nace laughed. “What?” the guitarist asked.

“Nothing. You're cute,” he said, booping his nose.

When Nace finished making it, he approached Jan to put it on him.

As he delicately placed the crown on Jan's head, the younger looked up at him with adoration and a soft smile on his face.

Nace admired his creation. They were white daisies, and while some might think them too plain and prefer other, more colorful or particularly shaped flowers, the bassist had chosen them for a reason. And seeing how the white and yellow contrasted with his boyfriend's beautiful black hair, he knew he had chosen well.

“...And? How does it look?” Jan asked, blushing a little under the other's fond gaze.

“You look gorgeous, love” he whispered, as if it was a well kept secret.

“Thank you, sonček.”

They fell into a comfortable silence, simply staring into each other's equally brown eyes, twin smiles painting their faces. Almost at the same time, their eyes started trailing down, glancing at each other's lips before going back up. It felt like time had slowed down somehow. How long have they been looking at each other - seconds, minutes, hours? They wouldn’t know. And it didn't matter.

Slowly, they began to move closer, their eyes never leaving each other's as their mouths met in the middle in a tender kiss, full of love and affection.

After an indefinite amount of time, their lips parted and they rested their foreheads together.

“C’mere,” whispered Jan, patting his lap.

Nace obeyed, shifting his position until he was lying on the grass, his head resting on Jan's lap.

Jan looked down at him with a gentle smile, beginning to stroke the soft brown locks between his fingers.

“Your hair it's getting long.”

“Hmm,” Nace hummed. “You like it?”

“I love it.”

With that, Jan started doing little braids on it, making the older giggle.

Life has many uncertainties, but if one thing was clear, it was that they loved each other.

How does Ticcimask work in your story? I don't know if you've talked about it before, or if you're tired of this question, I just wanted to ask due to how there are so many conflicting depictions of the ship.

Depends on what you mean? If you're referring to their ages, Origin is about Tim as a teenager. It'd be weird if it was Marble Hornets, Red Flannel Tim dating 15 year old Toby (STARES LOUDLY), but this is a prequel to MH, and they're roughly the same age. The love-hate dynamic that people associate with Ticcimask works better when they're the same age, imho, and that's always been how I've seen the ship. They're rivals to each other, rather than an adult bullying a child because he's Kind Of Annoying (and mentally disabled, which. Yikes).

In Origin, they're both obsessed with each other, but for completely different reasons, and those reasons change over the narrative as their ideologies shift.

In Tim's eyes, Toby is this captivating, all consuming flame. Toby doesn't languish over what's right and wrong, what makes him a "good boy" or a "bad boy"- he does as he pleases, and demands everyone witness it. He spits in The Operator's face and openly questions the nature of their rearing and their orders, even though that hurts his standing. Though that usually pisses him off, he can't help but find it a bit admirable. Toby is very compelling to Tim, in all aspects, and he can't help but want him around even though he finds him so antagonistic. Toby understands Tim's anger at the world, and- most importantly- he validates it through his actions and reactions. At the same time, though, he challenges Tim intellectually, which very few people do. Kate tells him "don't do bad things", but Toby asks him "why?"

When it comes to how Toby sees Tim... I fear saying too much. I kind of want it to be something you interpret yourself. But I'll say that for however intense Tim views Toby, Toby views Tim three times as intensely. Like, don't ever read Toby's mind when he's thinking about Tim, you will feel compelled to Call Someone (therapist, doctor, a priest, or all three). It's very hard to describe how Toby sees Tim without using some very heavy-handed biblical imagery, because from the start, Toby has seen Tim through the lens of believing The Operator is God. You can infer from there how he might see Tim- sometimes as a messiah, sometimes as Satan, and sometimes as both simultaneously. He wants to be close to that light, but he knows in his gut that there's something deeply Wrong about it.

Despite how they are obviously Aware of each other's dangerous faults and how badly things could go, they still choose to rely on each other. Simply because that, despite everything I said above, they get along horrifically well. When they agree on something, that thing is done with brutal efficiency. They are The Operator's Boys, and they're both his Best of The Best. They complete each other in the worst possible way- they're dangerous for each other, but deadly for everyone else. If things go according to The Operator's plan, they will be exactly as Toby fantasizes: Literal Kings, sitting atop a throne of bodies and ruling the humans on Earth like apex predators.

The thing is... is that really what they want? And are they willing to do what it takes to achieve that?

uhhh honestly I feel a bit like a hermit who's out of the loop on what's popular/unpopular so some of these might be completely off the mark but here we go

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

Mmmm I think most of my brotp's aren't shipped as OTPs to start with, so I dunno if I have any that fit this question.

Guess the closest example for me would be OPli/ta. I don't actively platonically ship them but I think platonic is way more interesting than romantic. I don't like the fandom's interpretation of romantic O/Plita at all + I feel like as one of the original "token woman" Autobots, I'd like to see Elita unshackled from Optimus as a love interest, esp because any official interpretation of them is probably gonna be written extremely heteronormatively/token romance between an action hero and The Girl. And the fanon version of them that's Strong Independent Girlboss Elita with whipped simp husbnad Optimus is just as boring and gross.

I just don't like the vibes and would rather them have some sort of friendly or regular relationship together.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

IDW1 Slide, who I've gone into detail about my hatred of in several posts, but the TLDR is that she comes off as some kind of mouthpiece character? Not a mouthpiece as in for the author's beliefs, but it literally feels like she only exists to shit on Optimus and call him a piece of shit. Her dialogue is so cheesily written ("literally fascism" is an actual thing she says) and her bitching/lack of cultural comprehension about Cybertronian history is so prevalent, that for a long time during my IDW1 reading I was genuinely confused as to whether she was supposed to be some sort of parody/strawman/mockery of someone IRL (her character comes off almost EXACTLY like an anti-SJW stereotype of a screeching harpy calling everyone she dislikes a fascist, and it's only Barber's very obviously left-leaning writing in other parts of the story that told me that definitely wasn't the intent). So then I was wondering "okay is she gonna like, randomly become evil and turn against the good guys because she's just that petty? I mean she spends all of her time bitching about how Optimus/the Autobots/Cybertronians in general are the worst ever and she also hates humans too so I mean maybe? Half of this story already doesn't make sense so I can see it happening."

Thankfully that didn't happen, but like. Slide is so goddamn annoying and ignorant and gets way too much page time dedicated to her angry monologuing (in Unicron aka the finale of IDW1 there's literally a whole half page panel of her bitching about how Optimus is an evil tyrant while Trypticon is dying behind her and it comes off as a poorly timed, bad taste joke). The narrative treats her like she's some important individual whose feelings are important and valid, but she's fucking annoying. Any sympathy she was meant to garner is canceled out by badly written dialogue and the fact that she's a Literal Nobody of a character who seemingly only exists to bash the decades old, beloved legacy characters. For the sake of, idk, talking about how fucked up Cybertronians are that they just shrug and move on when people die? Bc apparently it's some sort of sin to be numb after 4 million years of war (and war that's literally still ongoing while Slide is bitching) and just soldier on trying to get through it? God forbid that a military hierarchy fighting to keep neo-Decepticons and various other alien threats from colonizing Earth be run like a military in which orders have to be followed, people die, but you still have to keep fighting anyways? Idefk man I just hate Slide so much she's basically the embodiment of all of the bad aspects of Barber's writing personified.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

Mutineers arc in MTMTE/LL. I feel like (whether due to early cancellation and/or JRO wasting time on too many side plots to give it its full depth), I dislike how the mutineers were basically boiled down to pure evil morons who are the most disgusting, despicable evil ever and the only reason the mutiny had Good Guys (TM) in it was because they were horribly misled and not because, you know, the mutiny was 100% a valid thing to have happened as retaliation against Rodimus and Megatron's captaincy.

Like, I'm not opposed to the idea of Getaway and his cronies being assholes (I personally thought Getaway was a GREAT slow-burn, puppet master villain/anti-hero), I just dislike how the quality of their writing degraded from MTMTE to LL. Felt like they (Getaway in particular) got passed the Idiot Ball and then the actual reasons behind the mutiny were never addressed, it was kind of just "oh Getaway died horribly so we're all friends now and we forgive each other and Rodimus/Megatron will just go back to being captains now."

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

You mean besides IDW Optimus because anyone who's been on my blog for like 5 seconds knows he's my biggest problematic fave skldfjskd

Uhhh I guess in the spirit of the previous question, Getaway. I feel like the fandom's hatred for him is overblown mainly bc it's a combination of Tailgate/Cyga/te fans going "HE GOT IN THE WAY OF C/YGA/TE AND ALMOST KILLED THAT PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL" and Rodimus or Megatron stans going "Getaway hates my fave?? But my fave is a good captain and deserves the world HE'S EVIL MY FAVORITE IS BEYOND CRITICISM OR REPROACH GETAWAY IS THE EMBODIMENT OF EVIL."

Like to me it seems as if the hate for Getaway isn't normal dislike or even people hating him because he's a well written villain. It feels weirdly like ppl really take Getaway's actions personally and hate him with the kind of passion you normally see reserved for actual real life horrible people. Or they like, see Getaway as an obstacle to [favorite character]'s happiness and not as an individual who, before the quality of his writing tanked, was actually an interesting character who maybe even had good points? It just feels like people mainly hate Getaway because he's the antagonist to more popular characters/ships and so they project their defense of their faves into virulently hating him.

13. Unpopular opinion about (Optimus)?

Honestly 90% or more of the fan content I see for Optimus is really boring/uncompelling to me, or really just comes off as out of character. It's either Optimus being reduced to an accessory to be shipped with someone (usually turned into some sort of moe cutesy uke type) or him being turned into.... idk some permutation of "feral irresponsible gremlin" or "One Of The Good Ones (TM)" or "anxiety-ridden damsel who needs to be rescued by his lover" or, in some circles, "character I project my issues with authority onto and try to frame as evil for things that aren't even evil."

Idk how to specifically describe it, it's just... a vibe? Most of the Optimus content I see doesn't actually feel like him at all. It feels like it's Optimus/Orion in name only, who got so separated from canon and distorted by fanon/flanderization/shipping/porn stereotypes that he now only vaguely resembles the character he's supposed to be.

20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?

Ahahaha I don't really go into the realm of pure ships honestly, plus this is the war criminal fandom where pretty much every character has killed people or committed crimes or is just generally scarred by war so uhhh

Idk I think Thundercracker/Melissa is a pretty hinged ship? They get along and cope surprisingly well with all the shit that happens. There's no angst or betrayals or misunderstandings or enemies, they're just very respectfully together. Sdfklsajfksd

25. How would you end (IDW1)/Would you change the ending of (IDW1)?

Honestly, I'm pretty satisfied with the ending of IDW1 on both sides of the story. On Barber's side I would've preferred if every single planet including Cybertron didn't get fucking eaten leaving them all stuck on Earth together, and I would've also kept Trypticon alive while... minimizing Slide's role, to say the least. I don't have a problem with Optimus' ending bc I actually think that Optimus' arc in Unicron is like, one of the few 1000% good things Barber wrote for him it's just. It's pure Optimus in his best form.

On JRO's side I would've cut out the last panel with the alternate Lost Light and left it ambiguous as to whether the quantum jump successfully copied the ship or not. I dislike the vibes of the canon ending that implied that everyone moving on with their lives (almost universally to new and exciting and happier places) was the "sad" ending and going on a permanent road trip is the "true, happy" ending. In the author's notes I think JRO said that he wanted to give the readers an ending that would allow them to imagine their faves continuing to go on adventures, but I think compromising a good ending to a story to appease fans is fucking stupid + fandom has never needed permission or approval from the author to write alternate, happy endings. So why ruin a poignant, melancholy ending about how endings come with new beginnings and sadness/nostalgia can be mixed with hope and happiness by going "sike lol they're all living happily ever after on their space cruise."

Also I wouldn't have randomly killed off Ratchet for no reason because like. What was that even supposed to accomplish. I'm no stranger to writing major character deaths but like. He just fucking died of disease off-screen and that was that??? Why, like what was the narrative/symbolic purpose of that besides just making the ending more sad? Maybe to emphasize how going back to Cybertron was the "bad ending" and the quantum Lost Light is the "good ending" since on the LL Ratchet is still alive? But see the paragraph above for why I don't like that.

26. Most shippable character?

The most shippable character to me is whichever character I think is the sexiest, because if I think they're sexy it makes me want to ship them with everyone. "Guards, fuck that man for me" etc etc. Lmao

Me trying to be vague and everyone immediately perking up like prairie dogs ready for tea alskfnkdkd. Idk I don't think it'll surprise anyone on my blog I've spoken about it in the past. Just got annoyed at it always being there for no reason and not making sense to me one too many times, I guess.

It's r0nance. I simply do not vibe with it at all. I think, if given a sterile au where there's nothing and no one connecting them and no homophobia to worry about, it might be interesting to possibly explore them being attracted to each other but realizing their personalities and goals and priorities clash too much to work out. A bright first fling into maybe-love that fizzled quickly. I've sort of done this in my post o66 sto bin au for them, but I'm probably not going to actually explore it there. (As it's already in the past even during the war for that au)

But in fics that try to be more or less canon/fix it type deal, it really doesn't make sense to me without even mentioning the hairsprayed elephant in the room. Robin and Nancy's personalities don't seem to mesh well, what with Robin's rambling tangents and Nancy's need to focus.

Robin would probably want to do something specific with her life, but she also wants to wander! Her parents are hippies and she wants to visit Paris. She wants to travel in Europe, and probably stay at sketchy hostels and backpack in the mountains, talking to locals that she doesn't have to worry about ever seeing again. Nancy is planning on immediately going to her dream school after highschool and likely pursuing a career right out the gate. She's very driven and focused, wants to go out and seize opportunities that can assist in reaching her goals, and I don't see Robin's dreamier personality traits fitting with that.

I think @thestobingirlie mentioned that while Robin and Nancy both experience the sexism and misogyny of the 80's, Nancy doesn't experience ableism as Robin does. And she doesn't try to understand where Robin is coming from, only openly appreciating her efforts after she ranted at the hospital director.

Robin rambles! We see her either ramble or give clipped answers ("I'm Robin I work with Steve!") When she's nervous or under stress or excited! We see both Nancy and Steve react to these rambles in different ways. When Robin goes off topic in the library with the conspiracy paper, or talks a bit too much about how much she talks a bit too much, Nancy's annoyed. She's initially dismissive of the national Enquirer esq newspaper Robin brings up that helps solve the case (go Robin!). Robin babbles at Steve a lot, and he never makes her feel bad about it. She rambles about rambling to Vickie and the Muppet joke and he adds little commentary as needed, letting her go, or he cuts her off with a little joke during her rabies freak out. He lets her ramble or lets her know she should stop without being actually annoyed and letting her know that by not telling her outright to stop. (She knows immediately that it's a joke, and she jokes back, although understandably nervously. I love them.)

Them being a background pairing so often is annoying, though to varying degrees. If it's just as Robin's gf mentioned I, like others, just kinda...change it to Vickie's name in my brain lol. But other times it's not and it just. Doesn't make sense why Nancy would be such close friends with Steve (her messy breakup ex!) and Robin and Eddie. That girl has big city dreams, she's getting the hell out of her tiny hometown and not looking back. Let her be free!!

I mean obviously the bit I hate about it is that Robin holds a grudge and Nancy broke Steve's heart, which I don't see as compatible, even if we take into account that it's likely Steve and Robin have no idea Nancy cheated on him, and that Steve is an unreliable narrator and blames himself for the breakup. Steve and his relationships with both Nancy and Robin are so pivotal to all three of their characters that ignoring the history there seems a disservice to the complexities of their relationships with each other.

That one is mostly notes so far. The idea is as follows: Pre TPM Maul gets captured by pirates and they try to get a ransom from Sidious, but Sidious is like: "If he can't get out of there alone, he's not worthy to be my apprentice. Kill him for all I care." So the pirates keep Maul and raise him and he grows up alongside Hondo and he reconnects with his Dathomirian roots and learns some nightsister magic.

I drew pirate Maul once.

And I also wrote a snippet for a picture that @obimaulartfire drew a while ago with belly dancer Maul. Sadly the picture got swallowed by tumblr somehow and is not findable anymore, but here is the flashfic:

“Because between the two of us, you’re the pretty one.” Hondo pats Maul’s cheek and makes sure to pull his hand back before the Zabrak can snap at him. Maul tries anyway, but Hondo knows his adopted brother well enough. They’ve grown up together ever since Hondo’s mother had tried to get a ransom for Maul and his master had abandoned him. They’re partners in crime ever since mom died and Hondo took over the pirating business. Well, Hondo and Maul took over together. But obviously, Hondo is the brains of the operation, if he can say so himself.

Since biting failed, Maul settles for glaring at him. “Something is distinctly wrong with your eyes if you think I’m pretty.”

Of course Maul thinks himself the brains of the operation that’s why he uses words like “distinctly” and insist on speaking with his coruscanti accent even though everyone normal would’ve adapted to Hondo’s superior way of speaking by now.

“You really should learn to take a compliment, dear brother,” Hondo says. “And believe me, this Hutt has a type and it’s all bright skin colors and interesting markings. You’re perfect for this job.”

Maul glowers but doesn’t argue any further. “Let’s not waste any more time, then.” When he walks towards their ship, all the jewelry he’s adorned with clinks with every move. Hondo could get used to that. Usually, Maul’s foot steps are way too quiet for his liking. You never get used to a red and black zabrak stepping out of a nearby shadow without warning. Maul loves doing that. It scares the pants off guests most of the time and it has given Hondo a few near heart attacks in the past.

“You can’t kill our target,” Hondo reminds him. “He’s more profitable as a hostage.”

“Yes, I know,” Maul says, annoyed. “Gods forbid I have fun at this mission.”

“Well …” Hondo grins. “I heard a certain Jedi is among the guests. So, if you play your cards right …”

“I don’t know which Jedi you mean,” Maul says coldly. Liar. Hondo has seen him make moon eyes at Kenobi every time they’ve met so far. Or what counts as moon eyes for Maul. It’s his usual glare, just with more intensity and a bit of a hungry edge. Every time Hondo crosses Kenobi’s path, he makes sure to take the Jedi hostage. As a treat for his dear brother. Of course he doesn’t get any thanks from Maul, but he know he appreciates it. Hondo makes sure to give them time to talk alone, too.

Honestly, Maul should be more thankful. For the exceptional job Hondo has done with Maul’s outfit for tonight, too. But that’s little brothers for you.

“Sure,” Hondo says with a grin. “But I heard him say last time that you look good wearing gold.”

Maul scoffs. He throws Hondo a quick glance from the side, though, as if trying to assess if he’s serious. Hondo’s grin grows. “Trust me,” he says. “This evening will be a success in more than one way.”

“Just focus on what we’re going to steal,” Maul says. But he doesn’t complain about being the distraction anymore. And Hondo sees him check his reflection in the cockpit window before they leave their ship after landing near the Hutt palace.

Hondo smiles to himself. He’ll get Maul to thank him later.

What exactly happened between Rooster and Hangman? (The Exes, explained)

(or, I deliriously try to explain what the fuck went on between Hangman and Rooster because why the fuck were their scenes like that. why the fuck did they act like that. why the fuck did they say that.)

Top Gun: Maverick has taken over my brain. I have so many brain worms from this movie. I have this weird connection to the Top Gun movies… but that’s too long and this post isn’t for it. 

To answer the essential question: we’ll never know. But, by piecing together information, and of course, over-analyzing their interactions to the death, we can figure out some of it. Obviously, through a shipping lens because… Sereshaw / Hangster / whatever you wanna call them, have taken over my mind. 

I like to believe that they were exes — exes who had something really good, until it all crashed and burned and became unsalvageable in the end. Everything I say here happened in the movie; my analysis is just different and obviously I’m stretching and reaching LMFAO but you know what! It’s fun. I had fun. I giggled, I chortled, so… let’s unpack.

For ease, I’ll go through everything chronologically. Amazingly enough, their first scene provides plenty of evidence towards the fact that they could be exes. It’s crazy 😭 

We’re introduced to Hangman first through Phoenix. (OKAY gonna go on a tangent here, but just for fun: we can conclude that Phoenix and Hangman already knew each other — whether through the academy or flight school, and also a cool part of canon: the squadrons they’re canonically assigned to (Phoenix - Black Aces, Hangman - Vigilantes) are part of the same Air Wing (CVW-9). This means they’re also on the same aircraft carrier, have the same base, and home port. I don’t exactly know how much time they would spend with each other, but I still think they knew each other even before this! (She talks about how Hangman got his callsign and she was part of it, this most likely would have happened before they were assigned to their respective fleet squadrons.)) 

He’s… a douchebag! He’s annoying! He’s cocky! A stereotypical jock. 

After a while, Rooster makes an appearance and greets Phoenix first. Through their interactions… it’s safe to assume that he’s friends with her, OR also has a bit of history with her, too. They’re close, and he doesn’t seem to do the same with everyone else. (During GBOF, Phoenix is the only one who notices Rooster at the piano — like she knows what he’s about to do.) They have their talk, then we hear Slow Ride, courtesy of Hangman. 

The camera cuts to Rooster looking at Hangman like this… for what 😭. It’s not a look of smugness, no smirking, no smiling… he looks shy? He’s looking up at him like he’s holding something back. Like he’s remembering something and we just don’t know what. Why does he look so apologetic? What happened? 

Then, we get to: “Bradshaw, as I live and breathe.” 

No callsigns here… just… Bradshaw. And Hangman is looking at him with a smug look, smirking — all with the music playing? The music he picked out because he saw Rooster walking into the bar? 

And… we’re here! 

“Hangman, you look… good.” 

“Well, I am good, Rooster.”  

“I’m very good.” 

(Rooster looks at Phoenix right after this. She knows, too.) 

“In fact, I am too good to be true.” 

I’m like being dead serious here 😭 what normal people… who DON’T have a deeper shared history with each other, after seeing each other after a long time apart, greet each other with, “You look good. / I am good.” WHAT. 

This is something that’s echoed between them throughout the movie, TWO times, exactly, at very important parts during their interactions. The first one is this, the last time is after Hangman saves his and Maverick’s life… that’s for later. 

I don’t know if I have to explain the looks… but seriously, why do they look at each other like that? Sure, Hangman is smirking and everything, but the two of them have these looks on their faces — like they’re remembering something that happened in the past. A… breakup? A relationship? Hangman acts like someone who got absolutely fucking jilted, and he’s putting this facade up to show that it never affected him. And it fits with his character too — with his pride and his arrogance. Rooster doesn’t act this way. It’s like he knows he did something to him, he just doesn’t want to bring it up. Not now, anyway. 

What they say here is important, too. Hangman’s “I am too good to be true.” is just… odd. I firmly believe that no one would ever say this…? No matter how arrogant they are? It’s like it's an inside joke, something that only he and Rooster would no. (And why? Did Bradley call him that? Did he confess that? And he’s bringing that back, just to hurt him?) It’s also punctuated by the fact that as he’s saying this, it cuts to Phoenix and Payback, who are both looking at Rooster like they’re in on whatever is happening. 

What can I even say about this like I feel like this moment is so self-explanatory 😭😭😭 WHY are they doing that? Why is Hangman so close? Why is Rooster looking at his lips? WHAT IS HAPPENING? What is Hangman saying? Why? 

Those are just a few questions I have that I know will never be answered. If you like to think within the Sereshaw Exes Canon, though, all of what Hangman says could not only apply to Rooster’s flying, but to a previous relationship. 

Through Hangman, we can learn about Rooster’s flying style. He’s more conservative, by the book (similar to the way Ice flies!), versus Hangman’s more Maverick flying style. He’s fast and quick and dangerous. Rooster punctuates that when he claims that following Hangman would just lead someone to an early grave. 

Could this be… the remnants of a breakup gone badly? Hangman says that Rooster prefers to wait on his perch, waiting for a moment that’ll never come. That if you follow him, you’ll run out of fuel. Throughout this, Slow Ride is playing (Hangman loves this song…), with some of the lyrics to the song being, “Slow ride, take it easy / Slow ridin’ woman you’re so fine.” Putting the pieces together… Did Hangman just go too fast for Rooster? Or was Rooster, who was slow to love and very scared to, just never truly go for it? Did Hangman put all his chips in? Did Rooster hang back and wait for the right moment for it all to happen? Were they together, then separated, and Rooster never did anything about it (in canon: Rooster’s squadron is the Golden Warriors. He’s stationed at NAS Oceana — on the opposite side of the country, Virginia.)? There’s so much you can headcanon about this interaction right here. All I can say is that something definitely went on between the two of them — and Hangman just never got over it. 

Finally, it ends with Phoenix and Rooster saying that he hasn’t changed. She knows, too. 

(Also, it’s fun to headcanon that maybe… Slow Ride was their song. Maybe it had a special meaning for the two of them.) 

And that’s just… their opening scene. To be honest, the next parts are a lot about the looks they share. They’re sitting, listening to their assignments and constantly looking back at each other — similar to the way Ice and Mav did. Nothing that really adds to The Exes backstory, so I won’t go into it here. Crazy looks though tbh 😭 

Their next “semi” big scene is when they’re first flying with Maverick. Just the two of them. What’s important here, that we learn about the two of them, is that Hangman doesn’t know about Maverick and his relationship with Rooster. I guess, you could say, if Hangman doesn’t know about Maverick, then how close could he be with Rooster? To that, I say, I don’t think Rooster would’ve readily provided that information. He seems to be struggling to come to terms with it the entire movie, holding onto it too tightly. The only person he ends up telling about the papers is Phoenix. 

Then… we get to their fight. (Which I can’t provide pictures of because I don’t have them… sorry go watch the movie. The visuals aren’t even that important anyway, but they’re looking at each other like they always do. 😭) 

Hangman starts talking about the past. He tells Rooster that he needs to let go of the past. And Rooster… it’s like he already knows. Hangman brings Goose and Maverick up, and Rooster pushes him and they fight. He’s mean, he’s hurtful. It’s something that cuts deeper. It all happens so fast, like the two of them are so wound up from just being in the same room that they can’t take it anymore. This is like… their saddest interaction but it’s still important. (Because even if Hangman did this, it’s never brought up again.) 

After that, there isn’t really anything until the mission. We get this: 

AGAIN why are they looking at each other like this WHY. 

Hangman is pretty much the last person Rooster sees before getting on the plane. And they stare at each other for a bit, and Rooster is moving around a little and it looks like he has so much to say to him. It’s like they have so much to say to each other… but how can you say it? Hangman doesn’t even know if Rooster will come back. And so, it’s silent. It’s quiet, which is different from all their interactions in the movie. They were explosive, always at each other’s necks — never being able to heal from a thing that broke the two of them. 

In the end, Hangman tells him to give them hell. That’s it. And Rooster doesn’t respond. Then they part — is this when they realize that they should’ve done more? Should’ve worked harder at something they cherished? I don’t know. All I know is that they look like they had more to say. 

As the mission continues on, the biggest part between them is that when Rooster’s plane goes down, they immediately cut to Hangman in his plane. It mirrors the exact same way couples are framed in movies — their loved one gets hurt, and the camera moves to the other one, showcasing their reaction. Even if it isn’t a loved one — it’s someone extremely important to the person who just got hurt. While they could’ve shown, say, Phoenix — they chose Hangman. Why? 

He just looks… so concerned. Did he lose Rooster forever? No more chances for closure, no more time spent with him — he’s just gone. And at this point, there’s nothing that Hangman can do about it. (And I’ll ask it again… why else would they cut to him?) 

So, the movie goes on… and Hangman saves Rooster and Mav. He goes on his spiel about tray tables, etc. etc… and then, Rooster uses their callback again: (Hangman, you look good. / I am good, Rooster. I’m very good.) But it’s different this time! 

Obviously lmfao Rooster is happier. He’s smiling and he’s laughing at Hangman, and he uses their callback in a lighthearted way. It doesn’t hold the same weight as it did before. Mostly because… well he’s alive, but the line reprising itself towards the end is… good. It marks a before, and after. The first time — it marked the beginning of something that was happening between them. Exes meeting for the first time since the breakup that went wrong — weird and angry and hurtful towards each other. The second time, it's a relief — because Bradley’s life was just saved and of course, of course, Jake saved him. It ends their animosity towards each other. It’s something new that they can both start. 

Bradley was just so close, and Jake was there at the best time — waiting for the right moment. Maybe, it’s how they decide to start it again. Properly. It’s different because they’re both older, maybe more mature, but it’s something familiar nonetheless. 

They meet back on the carrier (where Hold my Hand is playing in the background… HELLO?) and they have their little handshake! (Which, if I digress for a second… should’ve been a hug. A hug not only would’ve been such a cool thing to compare to Ice and Mav’s, but it would’ve capped Rooster’s arc perfectly. Him making peace with his past and the people around him, letting go of his anger and trying to move on. I don’t care if Hangman/Rooster is a thing, they still should’ve hugged. A handshake doesn’t get that message across. Unless… maybe their story isn’t over? There’s something more? They’re building up to that hug?) 

They share a look — and Rooster and Hangman look so happy. Hangman is genuinely so happy that Rooster’s alive, and he even taps him on his chest (his heart). It’s like, affirming to himself that yeah, Bradley is here and alive and breathing and he saved him. This time, they’ll get a second chance. Whatever the fuck happened back then — he would make sure it’d never happen again. And Bradley — who is now learning that it’s okay to just do, just do what he wants and learn from his consequences, will be different. Maybe he’ll go all in this time. Who the fuck knows.

And… that’s the end. I just wanna say that this is all headcanon minus the actual things said from the movie 😭😭😭… No, Hangman and Rooster are never confirmed exes NOR will they ever will be. It’s just very impossible for that to happen I fear... the world wouldn't be able to handle it 😭. Which is fine! Things don’t need to be canon to be enjoyed! This “story” that you can create from this is just one of the many things that y’all could take away from their interactions… I just love the strangers to friends friends into lovers then strangers again trope Very Very much. 

Go watch the movie. It gave me brain worms. And I’ll probably write Actual Sereshaw / Hangster in the future lol.

i feel like one thing every 2012 ship has a problem with is pacing

it’s clear that the 2012 writers don’t rlly know how to commit to romantic subplots so they either go the “they are super into each other right off the bat so there’s little build up” angle or the “will they won’t they,, but we’ll never show them actually get together” angle

i’m not saying these are atrociously bad or anything but it can be really annoying in the long run

apritello is the entire reason i got into 2012 when i was 11 lmao so it got stale for me when the show focuses less and less on their development since they didn’t want to commit to an actual subplot after the bigfoot fiasco. they both grow, sure, but it’s pushed to the background and we never see them talk about it. instead we get a kiss in a non-canon music video ://

with ramona, while it’s incredibly sweet how in love they are, the pacing of their first episode was ,,,, bad lol. the first time i watched it i was so underwhelmed i was like,,, this gets better?? right?? and it did but yeah i think that first episode for sure needed tweaking.

and more mona would’ve been great too. she needed some character exploration outside of her relationship with raph,, like having her talk more with the other characters her age (i would kill for april and mona content). i’m not saying she doesn’t have depth. she does. but a lot of it gets pushed to the background for her dynamic with raph.

they just didn’t even try with mikey and renet i’ll be real. they threw renet in there as a love interest and then kept making her and mikey kinda go in circles with their interest in each other. they’ll be cute and close in some scenes and then renet will act like she’s just humoring him while mikey kinda forgets about her when shini shows up.

i think renetangelo is cute to some extent (tho i do dislike 2012 mikey a bit so that doesn’t help) but time travel romances are automatically rlly hard to write well and since 2012’s romance writing is already messy, they weren’t going to do well. and renet herself is automatically more interesting when she’s not interacting with mikey. like her platonic dynamic with leo?? adorable. my favorite renet is 2003 and she’s not a love interest and she’s so charming!! renet is just a fun quirky friend of the turtles.

but like ,,, with karai, leo saw her as an escape from being a leader so he can explore his rebellious streak. which is interesting! but unlike with lotus, leo was willing to betray her behind her back, and karai was willing to manipulate him to do what she wanted him to. but okay that’s getting off topic. back to the pacing,,

season 1 gets a pass for me since i actually love the pacing of season 1 alone (like honestly, after the cousin reveal, there wasn’t any romance up until season 2 from my memory,, and even before that after karai betrayed leo and the other brothers found out, leo wasn’t into her,, it was his brothers who were making fun of him), but afterwards, season 2 onward,the timing of leo/rai moments were always a slap in the face bc they were always. ALWAYS. right after they acknowledged her as family THRJEKSJDJDKSK

but yeah i think pacing is the worst problem of 2012 ships :p

Okay so this is so dumb but I like to imagine the way they met is related to an old ask meme about what an oc would talk about for a one hour lecture, and Darcy's was "just talk shit about different kinds of art until someone tries to climb on the stage to fight him".

Anyway I imagine JC just showing up to random lectures to debate people, and Darcy's is that day and he's immediately having the funniest lecture of his life. Whole thing just devolves into them debating random rapid-fire topics way over time and then subsequently doing the same at dinner. Having the time of their lives, sharing wine, ganging up on anyone who tries to cut into their talk. Romantic things. Everyone else left about an hour into the lecture because it felt too much like flirting. Scandalous.

I got off topic but I know for a fact that they both love that memory and also that they say that they don't.

Also Darcy remembering the time JC straight up annoyed a dude to death at a party. He thinks about it when he's sad because it makes him laugh and is when he personally fell in love but anyway bye

See this is a bit of a tricky one because on one hand it can be assumed that they don't listen to *anything* either of them says but really I think that they do for ammo later because they're both pretty good listeners when it comes down to it. You can't tell me a guy who debates literally everyone for fun would just tune something out that someone says? Hell nah he retains that shit for later. Doesn't mean that he actually takes it to heart, but he does retain it.

Same for Darcy but in an "overtly malicious" way.

Which is to say, that they listen to everything but they don't necisarily *listen* to anything.

Unless, of course, they do listen to the thing that they are not listening to.

okay so. thinking about the new episode. season 5 finale. lets jump into it

Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed about this episode because while things got resolved, I felt like there wasn't much emotional resolution? I don't know. Because like, obviously Fyodor's dead and Fukuchi's dead (before I hear anything about either of these, I'm touching back on those in just a sec), and Bram's back to being a full bodied individual, I'm not that satisfied. For god knows how long, the ADA has been divided, being treated like terrorists and what not, and they just. Resolve it like that? Dazai isn't even back with them yet, we didn't even see Yosano, like. I want to see the band back together again. I want to know how everyone's recuperating after that shit show of an arc, because that was a lot.

On the note of resolution, yeah, I'm kind of annoyed that we didn't get more SKK. Not even like, ship content. I don't even care about that part, I think we all knew that was coming, and whatever, like, it doesn't matter.

What I care about is like. Any conversation of what the fuck happened in Meursault. There is no god-damn way that Dazai planned all of that with Chuuya pretending to be a vampire. There's just--can we talk about this? Please? What the fuck happened in there? What happened when we couldn't see things? How much of that was acting, and how much of that was real? Like. Chuuya was wearing contacts and fangs this whole time--okay?

I want to talk about this, because my initial reaction was "oh shit, they fucking killed him off.

You know, that's pretty damn suspicious. Especially since we don't see a dead body. Originally, I was like, "oh, we have an arm, he's lost his arm, he must be dead."

Something weird is going on here. I get the feeling this isn't the last we'll see of Fyodor or of Nikolai, for better or worse.

It's also intriguing that Fyodor didn't bother to take the antidote once he received it.

Hm. Perhaps he suspected that in a few minutes, he wouldn't need it.

What the fuck happened to Sigma?

Literally, that's it? Sigma's just. Comatose? Forever? Was he left in Meursault? Stuck like that? After an information overload? That's it? Dazai and Chuuya seemed to give zero fucks about it (which is not surprising considering they just met him, but still) (this is not a "WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DON'T CARE" comment, this is a general like "they've got more pressing priorities than a man they've known for about 30 minutes tops"), which seems to imply that he was just left there in that state.

Is Sigma just going to stay imprisoned in Meursault in that state? Because as a member of a terrorist group--which after all this, I'm hoping it's established that the true terrorist group was in fact the Decay--it would make sense for him to be held in the top security prison that they just broke out of.

Also, what the fuck is going to happen with Meursault. They destroyed quite a bit of that. Like. Is Dazai going to receive a call about "hey, bestie! you kinda destroyed our high-security government facility, time to pay up lol" LIKE. HELLO.

Fukuchi's "curse" on Fukuzawa-- what is that going to mean for his future and that of the ADA's?

It'd be very easy to say that Ranpo was speaking metaphorically about Fukuchi cursing Fukuzawa, but this is BSD. A lot of weird shit happens.

In any case, ignoring that, we now know that Fukuchi seemed to plan for Fukuzawa to be the one to kill him, and that One Order would actually respond to Fukuzawa. He has put him into this role of the chief commander of the Army of Mankind--not sure if that's official or not, but that could have big implications for Fukuzawa and the ADA going forward. And now, he has One Order, and can't destroy it, which begs the question:

What next?

That's got to be fucking Fukuchi, who we just saw die.

The scars on the face. The hair. The buff ass body.

And that fucking sword.

Which means that within those two hours, something went very, very wrong.

No one else is in sight. Atsushi is currently fighting Fukuchi again. Akutagawa has either been fighting at his side or is now fighting with him.

What's even more fascinating is the cloth mask over Fukuchi's face. Intentionally obscuring his vision, and our vision of his face.

Let's take a further, closer look, shall we?

This man. Has no feet. His hands have become claw-like, black. There appears to be antlers popping out of his head.

Something really fucking weird is going on, and you know what? We're not finding out shit for god knows how long, because we didn't even get to all this stuff in the manga yet.

Other Thoughts

Akutagawa's Return: The boy has come back! He's not dead! That's wonderful! Plus, he's got a badass new look. However, he and Atsushi are already going head-to-head again with Fukuchi(?). (Also, someone commented on here--I can't remember who--about how he has armor covering his neck, and TOO SOON. HE JUST CAME BACK. STOP.)

Bram Stoker: The man has been freed from the sword, which also begs the question of what exactly will happen to said sword, but that's a later problem, most likely. Okay my dear people of the internet. I have thoughts. A lot of them, so prepare for a long ramble post.

First of all I feel like I didn't make it clear that I'm not including Sebastian Vettel in these because the others wouldn't stand a chance. I just love him too much. That being said, welcome to my favorite drivers after seven weeks of liking f1:

1. Alex Albon

My love. I am embarrassed to admit that Lewis almost pushed Alex from 1st . There were a few days in the last two weeks when I honestly thought about putting Lewis on 1 and then I watched the never have I ever and remembered why I love Alex so much.

The sprint race made me sad. I believe that if he hadn’t changed to slicks he might’ve stayed in the points. And for the race today (also very embarrassed to admit that) I almost forgot to be stressed about Alex’ position because I was so busy stressing over the Ferraris and Lando being in the Red Bull sandwich.

2. Charles Leclerc

I thought a lot about putting Lewis on 2nd as well but then I remembered how much I love Charles lol. You cannot imagine how happy I was to see both Ferraris starting top three and seeing Charles taking P2 today. Obviously, I wanted to see him win but Max is just unstoppable.

3. Lewis Hamilton

Now finally Lewis. I spent most of my free time the last two weeks reading Sewis fanfiction and that kind of influenced me a little bit. Lewis is such a sweety and my heart can’t handle him. Him having a bad weekend made me sad. And my brother saying that he wants the older drivers, like Lewis and Fernando, to retire so that younger drivers get a chance made me sad as well. I understand why he said that, but I don’t agree. F1 wouldn’t be the same without them.

Honorable mentions:

Checo. I really don’t know what it is about him. I’ve been annoying everyone about how I want Checo to be able to prove himself again and now he did. I’ve been manifesting it and now I don’t know if I’m happy or not because him being good means that someone else is one place further back. Alex for example. If Checo didn’t drive as well as he did today then Alex might’ve gotten a point. But either way, Checo deserves it and I’m happy he found his form again.

Also the never have I ever. Checo was literally the cutest in that damned video. I melted when he admitted that he practiced a celebration before. And his accent drives me crazy. Now thinking about it, it feels weird that I have so much to say about Checo and for Lewis nothing but ‘I just love him’ lol.

Lando. I love Lando. He’s been on my mind a lot lately. He’s funny and so genuine. And I’ve been kind of obsessed with Carlando somehow. They’re just the most realistic ship in my opinion. And, I know I’m probably the only one but Lando interacting with Carlos Sr makes me really happy. But then again, I’ve been a fan of Carlos Sr way before getting into F1.

Carlos. Yes, Carlando. Especially Carlando on 2nd row for the race made me happy (not as much as Lestappen in front row but still 😀). And the race.. Ferrari fucked him over so bad and I was so mad. He deserved to be on the podium. And again, Checo being good makes me happy but I wanted to see Carlos on P3.

Mick. Reading so many Sewis fics did that to me.

Lance. I just think I like him now and I feel like I have to mention it because last time I wasn’t sure about that.

Nico. Again, I’m German and I like to see a German driver doing good but honestly what he achieves in that Haas is crazy. Damn I had no idea he is that good.

Max. I’ve been thinking a lot about Max lately and if I like him or not because there’s always that little voice in the back of my head saying that he can be really rude but he’s proved that voice wrong so many times. And most of the time when I see him the first thought that comes to my mind is that he is 1) gorgeous and 2) so freaking cute and 3) really nice. Also I’ve been obsessing over his hair. Somehow it drives me crazy.

Also (I hate myself for thinking that way but) I don’t like that no one has even the slightest chance against him but then again, he is just that good and he deserves it. There are so many awful and unfair thoughts in my brain and I have to force myself to see how sweet Max really is but I think I’m finally getting there.

since tmf ep 10 has been released and everyone is crying, i'm still clinging to the small, unlikely chance that my girl is getting a good role on part 2

and no, i don't mean “give her a good role” as in another obstacle for zander and luke's relationship. stacy haters go away!!

stacy barely had 2 minutes of screentime and we barely know anything about her!! not what her interests are or what her personality is like besides having a crush on luke. she isn't even seen after the classroom scene happened... elliot has less screentime than her but we still know what his interest is (gardening) and some bits of his backstory from milly's redemption glmv. maybe it's because he's shipped with one of the main cast but give my girl a break 💔

rosy's a champion for how much work she put into animating and hyping all that up but admittedly, the writing is lacking sometimes. like luke's character outside of lander and obviously stacy's character in general. it's like she just got ignored after lander became canon.

no, actually, since mariah also doesn't seem to have an actual role besides being zoey's friend, you could just replace her with stacy and then the storyline would mostly still stay the same except stacy would at least get more personality.

stacy being zoey's friend has so much potential. stacy gushing about how much she loves luke to zoey with the latter being annoyed by it and then when stacy finds out luke and zander are dating, she cries about to her and it gives zoey a more slightly reasonable reason to hate the music club and show that she isn't so much of a brat like everyone thought. not that i think they're both homophobic, zoey would just be like “how dare he, anybody would be lucky to date my friend!” or something something.

or since zoey is a villain we're all supposed to hate, maybe make stacy an actual one too like how some of the fandom perceives her to be? i don't like stacy hate but at least it would give a valid reason for some to actually hate her character (instead of the stupid “she gets in the way of my ship” excuse) and it's more stacy screentime so i don't mind. maybe stacy scolds zoey when she bullies the music club in front of luke, but the moment luke isn't around, she lets her do whatever she wants.

or if you wanna go on a shipping route because the fandom loves ships, they could be like henriam with so many shippy moments but don't realize they're an actual couple now until someone points it out. maybe they go shopping together and zoey's shopaholic ass buys her so many pretty dresses while stacy is grateful for it. maybe zoey carries a share of stacy's books because she knows she can be a bit of a klutz.

platonically or romantically, stoey would have an interesting dynamic if they actually, y'know, interacted. stacy's character herself would be so interesting if she actually got developed! even if it's super unlikely...

What made you ship it?

i don't know. listen - you may think i'm being oblique. but the fact is i heard about garashir LONG before i ever got into ds9, we're talking YEARS back; i can't even remember who i knew that shipped it, because it was just that long ago. i even tried reading a fanfic, though i can't remember what it was or even where it was, because this might have predated ao3. like even before i got into the show, something about that pairing Appealed To Me. and then, of course, i DID watch the show and Whoo Boy. i mean have you SEEN them interact. i think, honestly, what sealed the deal for me - what got be truly invested - was - well, for one thing, i tend to automatically rebel against relationships that the canon WANTS to happen; even if it's a relationship i end up liking it takes me a while to come around to it bc i'm so burned out on the vibe of "he was a guy, she was a girl, can i make it any more obvious?" that so many het romances get slapped with. i'm always looking for the characters that have the most chemistry (in my opinion) and goddamn call those bitches a science department because they have maybe the most chemistry of any two characters in that show. they challenge each other in the best way! and they just LIKE each other. what a novelty! i've got my fondness for the whole slap-slap-kiss trope, but god do shows and movies rely on it way too much these days, gag. so to have these two characters which, yeah, snip at each other sometimes, but very genuinely enjoy each other's company?? sublime. love it.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

well, i think i got into it a bit with the "they just like each other", but i think i especially like that garak liked julian right from the start. like oh, yeah, garak obviously had ulterior motives for approaching julian at first, but after that he just - continued to seek out his company! i've stated it a lot in my fics but just the fact that garak alone never seemed to find julian irritating when like everyone else on the station did, even if they came around to it - like i'm not one of those people that's like "the character you see yourself most in + the character you're most attracted to is your favorite pairing" bc i think it's bullshit, but as someone who is Very Annoying and is used to driving people away, oh god the idea of being just simply ACCEPTED by someone is like. a fuckin. drug. it's honestly probably the biggest reason i have trouble shipping julian with anyone else, even though i do enjoy his relationship with miles and i especially like writing him and kira becoming close in the later seasons. and, again, the fact that garak and julian do challenge each other, and they reflect one another in such interesting ways - and, of course, they are sooooooo normal about one another even in the context of a show that WASN'T writing them as romantically involved. 's good. 's a good ship.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

certainly it's not unpopular amongst the garashir girlies - but obviously i consider the idea that their relationship is at all "unhealthy" complete bullshit. like i made a whole post about it. genuinely i cannot even understand the mindset - other than, of course, because garak is a "bad man" (also something i disagree with, but whatever) he cannot have healthy relationships. he's "evil", so all of his relationships must be toxic. just lol. lmao, even. i think my most unpopular opinion is that i find it VERY hard to picture them hooking up early in the series and then having a relationship on the side. like it's not a deal-breaker in terms of fics, but just not my cup of tea, yanno? i think there's attraction and affection from the get, but i think PEAK garashir happens after ips/bil, and especially after dbip, when i feel like they'd've truly come to understand one another (as much as they need to, obviously; i think a big part of the garashir relationship is the idea that garak will always have secrets and julian is fine with that (is that why people think it's toxic?)). oh also i think people who shrink the age difference are cowards. they're both grown-ass adults! let them have their 20+ age gap! it's a charm point!

Fandom discussions that happen through the anon ask box of a third user who kindly lets us share our opinions on her personal blog obviously risk becoming flat and all that, but I'm kind of stuck on that bi4bi M/F ask because, like... what is the point of critiquing fans for their dumb ship wars and then you just insert yourself in said ship wars like that?

There is something to be said about how fandom treats cishet women (by acting like they're the only demographic present, by refusing to acknowledge their existence, by treating cishet women like the the devil, and also by using the "cishet woman" label as a way of silencing any queer person who disagree with one's opinion, which in itself has a number of other implications), but, like (and maybe this feels a bit personal for me because I've seen it happen one too many times) queer people—especially bisexuals—often "insist" that their M/F ships are bi4bi bc they're tired of bisexuality getting erased, especially when online fandom, like most other online (and offline) spaces, loves to both imply and directly state that bisexual people in M/F relationships aren't queer, or not queer enough, with the opposite also happening in F/F and M/M ships, where a character suddenly turns monosexual, or where bisexuality is not even contemplated.

It feels pretty naive to not take into consideration how that "insistence" often comes from a place of hurt, and not from the implication that being straight is Bad And Wrong™.

And obviously, whatever, everyone can ship whatever they want. But I have to question how many queer people—who aren't, like, antis or whatever—just go up to other fandomgoers and tell them that they're being queerphobic, really, because X ships should be bi4bi. Because there is a difference between someone saying that X and Y are bi, actually, in their own profile (or even lamenting the lack of bi4bi ships) vs. them directly going under a fanfic or other people's post to accuse them of being too straight or whatever.

It can still be annoying, mind you. Sometimes there are implications in how people explain themselves and share what they'd like to see more of in fanworks. I know for sure that some of the "Why don't we never see X" post can be annoying as fuck. Also, fans do often weaponize their (even if real, tangible) pain as a way to win arguments and demonize the other side—we see this happen with antis all the time. But it kinda makes me laugh when people try to critique this by flattening the discussion like this.

Obviously, discourse is annoying and wanting to be as far as possible from it is 100% understandable. And sometimes people just want to complain, which is also fair. But I feel like generalized complaints like this, posted on what is basically a public forum, often just fuels the discourse instead of shutting it off.

TBH, the main time I see bi4bi come up is when I post stats about het on FFN or something, and people come out of the woodwork to remind everyone that just because something is f/m, that doesn't necessarily mean it's het. (I promise you that 99.99999999% of the stuff I surveyed on FFN is the hettiest het to ever het.)

I haven't seen any policing of other people shipping the same m/f ship for not making it bi4bi. It might be out there, but it's not something I run into.

I have seen plenty of complaints about canons that end in m/f with a bi character not being queer enough. The funniest one I ever saw was about Stage Beauty.

I mean... it does end in the leads getting together... But...

(This is that historical movie where he's an actor playing women's roles, then the law changes, and men can only play men and women are allowed to be actresses. It upends his whole life and loses him his boyfriend. His assistant who's obsessed with him in kind of a "Do I want them or do I want to be them?" way takes over his old signature role of Desdemona. He's bitterly jealous, of course. Then they invent naturalistic acting in the space of a month because this movie is very historically accurate. Anyway, it would be pretty queer just for all the gender bullshit that's going on in the main f/m ship even if he weren't visibly also interested in men.)

IDK, I've found annoying people on both sides of this: letting you know f/m can be bi4bi when nobody asked and insisting things are Not Queer just because the endgame ship is f/m.

i dont think that everyone who enjoys a piece of media needs to be writing 1000 word meta on its Totally Deep Themes TM or ~deconstructing its use of visual metaphors~ or whatever but as an aromantic person i think im more than a bit justified in complaining about how so much of fandom culture is centred around shipping to the point that finding content about the themes/narrative/character development/storytelling/etc for certain pieces of media rather than what two characters people think should be fucking is nigh impossible.

as a disclaimer, i'm not saying nobody on earth is allowed to be peeved over people reducing DE characters to yaoibait, i think there's plenty to criticize there. from a gay perspective, a nonwhite perspective, an aromantic perspective, etc.

But the thing is that gay people are not going to stop making shipping content, and neither should they. when you encounter a fandom that is dominated by gay people you are going to have to deal with the fact that its going to have a lot of romance and sex and shipping in it because the homosexuality. it's not just because shipping is popular in all fandom spaces including among straight people, it's also because we're alienated from the heteronormative hegemony.

especially in the case for gay people in the third world, creating gay content is not only a form of coping but its one of the few ways we can empower ourselves while immersed in conservatism. and honestly i don't want it to stop! we need this. i don't know what that means to me re: the plight of aromantic people in fandom spaces, but if accommodating to everyone means gay people have to censor their own gay content or keep it cordoned off, untagged, hidden, then i don't want it. because for the longest time pre-2010 that was the status quo in fandom spaces. gay content was seen as fujoshi brainrot no matter where it came from. i'm glad it's not the case anymore and i'm not gonna act like i want it to go back to the way it was before.

Maybe I should just delete the app. No really there has been discours again where people are answering what their honest opinions on loustat was a couple days ago, and seem to keep going. And while many love loustat there is of course a few that has a problem them and also Lestat. Which is fine it’s not for everyone, but I do am starting to get annoyed by ALL the discourse here, there is just never any room to fully breath.

Not saying that all is negative obvi, but going back to the discussion of loustat/Lestat. My biggest annoyance and I might sound a bit petty are those tagt aren’t aggressive in their dislike but doesn’t seem to understand how important these two things are to the (especially old) fandom. I may personally have a bit of complicated (yet loving) feelings about lousta and Lestat, at the moment, since I am a relatively new fan and has only read “Interview” (thoug I am excited for Lestats redemption). I still understand that Lestat is the deeply complicated not easy main character of the story and that loustat is pretty much the heart of the VC. So I genuinely feel a bit confused when a lot of new fans is just like “they should stay separate” or “Lestat is irrelevant”, like obviously there isn’t any malice here and I understand if you don’t vibe but really? I am honestly a little confused by this….

This makes me understand why many old fans can feel very frustrated. Anne Rice clearly isn’t for everyone, and probably works best in a small community. I mean this LEVEL of discourse that has been going on can’t be healthy right? Art can be discussed, but it‘s also made to be enjoyed.

If you read the book you know what's coming. I think the first season will likely be remembered as the most harmless. The one to ... separate a few things, maybe, too. The Vampire Chronicles truly are not for everyone.

When "we" (as in old book fans) speak about Armand for example, and Loumand and then the blender, or sexual violence... we are not kidding. Or trying to pitch "ships" against each other. It's much, much, MUCH more complicated than that :)))

The current discourse/drama level will likely be "cute" when we get to the dramatic shift in Paris season 2. However they'll spin it, fans will feel betrayed by what they thought was a cute, loving relationship. And of course Daniel. And of course Lestat will HAVE to show up somehow for season 3. And, then, if they show Claudia's death as Armand tells it in his book.... oy. Incoming *laughs*

Lestat is the anti hero of the chronicles, but he is not even the worst out there. None of them are the nice guys.

Some of the new show-only fans will be ill-equipped for that simple truth I think.
