sometimes it drives me literally insane to see romance requests that are like

--I want a romance wherein it's basically the happy epilogue throughout the book

--I want a romance that has great communication and they never withhold anything from each other ever

--no "miscommunication trope"

The last thing is just a general gripe about how so many of the things people say are tropes are not tropes, and it's pedantic and snobby but like. Miscommunication is so broad. It's not a trope. People are miscommunicating. WHAT are they miscommunicating about? Is one of them keeping a secret identity from their partner? Because a secret identity romance iS a trope. Is one of them withholding their feelings out of fear of rejection?

Because people DO miscommunicate. Often writers do write it clumsily. If people miscommunicate for no reason, sure, whatever. But if they miscommunicate BECAUSE of a REASON--like, often it's not even miscommunication lol. It's the hero keeping his dire supernatural secret from his wife because she'll die if she finds out (honestly, valid to me, but whatever). It's the heroine finding it difficult to trust the hero with her heart because her dad left when she was young (maybe cliche in theory, but actually a very real thing that happens).

If all you want is plotless nothing wherein everyone is happy and nobody makes mistakes, I personally have a hard time thinking of it as a book, because there is no story. It's just vibes. And essentially EVERY time, people have to mess up and make mistakes in order for there to be a plot.

I just don't understand the point.

i wanna make a fanfic for dungeon meshi but kui ryoko covered pretty much covered all the themes i like when writing fanfic ideas.

The implications of bad tropes like "evil" sentient races? Orc tribe here; respectfully portrayed refugees/genocide targets, not stupid or unreasonable yet not perfect, (understandably) suspicious yet slowly accepting of the main crew (who was legally obligated to kill them), unique culture heavily based on the environment that kept them alive, on good terms with Senshi.

The implications of character flaws portrayed as a joke? Already addressed in canon and side stories; miscommunication strains relationships, violence can still be traumatizing when you think you're desensitized, consequences can come from both good and bad intentions, and some of the flaws themselves only make sense to exist with the worldbuilding.

Patching holes in worldbuilding? What holes? We got ecosystems, big and small cultural differences, the implications of massive lifespan differences, regional differences in environment and classification, repeated behaviors more common in specific races as a result of sociocultural circumstances, cuisine-

Giving some love to a minor character that isn't treated well by the author? Pretty sure Kui Ryoko cares about all of them already, just about every major or minor antagonist is written in a sympathetic or semi-sympathetic way.

AU? whoops here's a semi-canon Modern AU and Genderswap AU.

If I tried to insert an OC, all the circumstances coming with the worldbuilding would just push them away from most of the canon characters, especially if they're non-humantallman.

(...OCs and AUs are still probably possible, just don't have any immediate ideas coming up.)

I always imagined that Jake is like looking through the Shakespeare section for a play to read to impress christine) and Jake just turns around and kisses him (very short, very not romantic) and rich is like. huh. sir. what. and jake's all like "oh well you kissed a guy you're gay now, sorry man, all your homophobia is actually internalized. self hatred isn't a good look on you." there's more dialogue but u can make that part up for urself if you want to write it out

if you're in the mood to write brooke and chloe, they've always given off royalty au vibes to me, but yk i always appreciate a good apology fic between them (especially because brooke mentions her previous boyfriend cheating on her as well, and i always thought it was with chloe. like a fic where brooke is like 'ugh i'm terrible at choosing men, they always cheat' and chloe is absolutely amazed and guilty that for some reason brooke blames like six different guys and has yet to blame her when she's been the common denominator all along. also chloe's always been self destructive and her yelling at brooke to be mad at her, to hate her, to abandon her, while brooke just stands there with this endless, unconditional love for her best friend

and finally, i've read so many "rich and Michael fake date to seduce jake and Jeremy" (okay i've read like one) and I think it would just be fucking hilarious the other way around. like Jeremy and jake fake dating? especially because I always imagined them disliking each other. like them going from being begrudgent acquaintances to walking in one day like "oh yeah guys we're dating!!" rich goes absolutely insane with jealousy immediately and Michael's there like "you realize this is fake, right? they're both too emotionally immature to just confess. this is obviously fake." and jake's just like pfft no i love jeremy!! he's soo.... i mean his eyes are... ah he- uh. i just really enjoy talking to-- ugh he...he gives good head? and jeremy's in the background like. having a heart attack.

Honestly I think Dottore would be electro, if we're going off of younger Dottore (manga ver.)

Gonna put this below a cut for spoilers since this is all still new content and ik many people haven't gotten to play the story quest yet. Spoilers for 3.1 quest (Dottore) and I think the Pantalone stuff is all just leaks.... I don't. Recall....

Iirc, electro is speculated to be given to those who are seen as "outside the norm" and given that Dottore is first mentioned as the "outcast" in the 3.1 quest shortly before we see him, I think it fits!

Assuming he is indeed Zandik (which I'm like. Fairly sure he is), he was the weird guy with an interest in robots. He was expelled from the Akademiya. He's was scorned for his desire to create modified humans, etc. (I'm going mostly off of recollection here bear with me).

Though I'm sure he's mellowed out over the years, if he DID get a vision in his younger years I think it'd be electro.

But if we're just going of aesthetic and vibe– he seems colder (read: fine as hell) and not as hot-tempered– probably cryo. I wouldn't be surprised if (on the off chance he does become playable– I won't bank on any leaks) hyv makes him a cryo character. I can honestly see cryo catalyst unless they just straight up add. Gun. As an option for playable characters later down the line LMAO. I can't see him using a bow either, but I can definitely see him with a projectile-type catalyst.

As for Pantalone... I want to say geo because what little we know of his story kinda lines up with Ningguang, but I don't know if he actually worked hard to get where he is now or if he just cheated his way there through underhanded means. Plus he did bitch about only getting half a day off for Signora's funeral LMAO. Honestly dendro might fit better because I'm sure he's really intelligent and he probably earned his spot as harbinger more through wits than through nose-to-the-grindstone...ing it. No I do not say that because of Baizhu gkjdkgkd

I admittedly don't have a super good grasp on his character though because there's so little to work with 😩 I WANT to thirst over him but beyond knowing that he's rich and hot... yeah. In my mind he is just Goth Ayato.

So, I'm the most 'the rules should be flexible' kinda guy. The rules of a setting should serve the story, always. I mean the rules should never get in the way of a cool or otherwise interesting story beat. But I cannot stop agonizing over how durable sinners are meant to be. Like, immortal unless an Angelic weapon is involved. Good, perfect... but they can still be hurt, right? Can they still be wounded? How wounded? Can they be maimed? If a sinner loses a limb, what happens? Can it be reattached? Or does it grow back? What counts as a limb?
