The Sea Prince; Betas and Sketches!

Hello! been a bit since ive done a sketch dump, but it isnt just a sketch dump, it's an announcement!

As @mewhoismyself and I work on the fic, we need an active set of beta readers! The two we have our wonderful, but to keep with the schedule, we need some extra hands and fresh eyes!

Hence, beta readers are once again open!

I am looking for two betas who are experienced in writing, and who are active to give their insights and feedback! currently, i am writing chapter 17, but while i do that, i'd need the feedback as soon as i can get it so i can prepare it for the chapter release dates. shoot a comment down below so i can check your account!

starting off, here's some silhouettes for the other princes ;D I can't reveal them, otherwise the surprise would be ruined! they're all based on different sea creatures, but they are just as scary as Prince Pearl and Prince Chromia. theres other designs i have to get to, but this is a sneak peak of the other terrors lurking in the dark.

speaking of, I got a fun doodle of em <3 the good thing about eating underwater is that they won't get all messy, but there are those times where an audience might watch them eat, they're messy eaters!

these two are pretty, but i really wanted to push their freakier, scarier sea prince sides! more slight changes, but they're both quite fun to draw! their contrasting designs are so much fun to draw together, i love these sillies! oh- and here's a bloodless version!

i absolutely LOVE my sea prince designs, scott and pearl just itch me the right way.

and before i pop off, here's some concept designs for joey and sausage, along with fwhip and gem! since gem is officially a lifer, i think her role in the story might be a bit more focused on, who knows!

wanted to make sure sausage didn't look like his pirates look :0c this au was originally before pirates smp, so i wanted to differentiate them somehow, so i pulled a lot from their empires' attire and see what works! what do you think?

finally, we have the cover art board! im planning to put this all in my pinned post the moment all the covers drop, but goodness, those eyes sure are pretty!

This is actually a post trying to convince you to watch Magic funhouse, you got fucking punked. (I do love Bryce Tankthrust though. I just rewatched Stuff & Sam and she is CLEARLY the best part) But I don’t think anyone talks about Magic funhouse enough or if they do they are in the woodworks and I NEED this to be more liked. This show fucking gutted me in 2017 when I watched the whole thing ON. VRV. WITH ADS. Because I didn’t know how to pirate things yet. Magic funhouse has stuck with me since and it’s been fucking plaguing me. for a while I was convinced it was lost media or some shit my brain made up but then I found it again AND HOLY BALLS. Arlo is the fucking coolest piece of shit here and I want to put him through a wood chipper (affectionate) but I also want to see him finally be happy. It’s terrible! look at what it’s doing to me! •i feel after one long hike of taking breaks in the middle(sabo got a lil tired), some small incidents(ace tripped and fell into some type of river) and lots of nagging suprisingly(luffy is the type to say "are we there yet" over and over again)

•they would love to sit and watch the waterfall run with you and it will be for a long while most likely because you guys spent almost hours walking and going through luffy. yes luffy was the most annoying yet he was the most up to it

"are we there yet?" the boy askd for almost the 100th time you would've said what you kept repeating 'no luffy, just wait some more' but you saw your destination sighing to yourself.

"yes luffy, we're here come look!" a smile spreads across your face as you see the waterfall close up. "im suprsied your ahead of your brother's since you were complaining so much." you laugh out.

"huh? what's that supposed to mean eh?" he says offended like. you roll your eyes in amusement at luffys attitude looking behind him to see the two others.

"oh! ace, sabo, we're here now hurry up on over!" you wave your arm as you see them hurriedly get closer to the two of you with a warm smile spreading on their faces as they see the view of the waterfall.

"this is it correct? wow (y/n) you were right this is really pretty." sabo's eyes continued to stare at the scenery in awe ace doing the same.

"told you guys it would worth it all the while. now whose hungry?" luffy's face lit up on what he heard, "ooh! me! what do we have? is it meat? what is it what is it?" he exclaimed in excitement.

"yes luffy it's meat, now you three come and sit down." the three scatter over to the spot in which you sat as you got the food out handing it to the brothers.

"aaaah this is what ive been waitin' for food." Ace grabbed the food from your hands before laying on your thigh instantly digging into the food.

"this was really fun (y/n)! can we do this again?" sabo asked as you gir him full attention. "of course we can, it was nice hanging out with the three of yall i really wanna do this again."

being together with the three of them made you happy. and boy did it make them happy you were happy, it was fun to spend time with you and theu couldn't deny it even if they tried.

Okay so a kinda OP 1089 live post as I watch. This is from the perspective of a manga reader so anime only's if you come across this I might hint or talk about something that couod ruin the experience, so beware!

-First of all omfg that opening. So amazing. I remember seeing a tweet from one of the animation staff lamenting that they felt their work was gonna be invalidated. If anything, I hope they see the love people pour into it on a weekly basis and how we enjoy the journey alongside them. Like i think the remakes gonna be amazing for new viewers but the weekly release really gives us the leisure of adventure. It lets us bask instead of throwing us into a plot heavy rush.

-And nothing proves that better than the extended look at the strawhats as they discuss luffys dreams. Their expressions and thoughts. Just those extra seconds of living with the characters was so fun. Also it makes me so curious about Luffys dream once again. Ok so like he has to be the king of the pirates to achieve it right? So the free-est person on the sea? What could be beyond that? Free-est person in the universe? Are we getting space hopping Luffy?

-And then the gorosei talking about it being Sabos destiny that he is there. Hmmm. Ive been thinking about destiny recently and its really interesting how that comment lines up with my thoughts.

-and lulusia! The king is literally Vlad the impaler. And the mother flame impales the land. Makes me wonder if Mihawks from there. Also, what a horrific sequence.

-can't forget to mention that Sabo's transponder has a scar! Idk if this is a popular theory or idea but seeing him in colour really makes me want him to awaken blues flames, something that burns hotter thans ace.

-omg the eyecatchers(is that what they're called?the things in the middle of the episode. Where they cut for ads. Its been so long since ive watched anime properly, im sorry 😭) Are so adorable!

-the banter between zoro and Sanji! The crew working the ship! Love!

-but like also this reminds me why I love Sanji and Zoro as the wings. Sanji is the tactics and Zoro is the reason. Both things luffy lacks. And even extending to the rest of the east blue crew, Nami appeals to a heart and will, remember the Cracker fight. And her whole existence in supporting her village was about her strength of will. And Ussop represents both caution and bravery. Just as much a willingness to stick back and observe as with Sugar as dive in like GOD Ussop. They're facets that Luffy's never had.

-ahh my son Chopper is so cute! And robin 😍. And Luffys red nose and cheeks! Sorry for being a canadian but ah I miss winter! Right now where I live this time of year should be blizzards and flurries but the streets barely have snow on them and I yearn! I yearn! At least my beloved Straw Hats can experience it for me!

-afro power makes a return! Also so interesting that Bonney looks like she emerges from the sun. Chopperemon will save all! And Luffy is so adorable sitting on Sunny's head🥰

-Did i cry at the ending? Uhh yeah. I'm a human being. But like for reals, from calling back to the first ending to the flashbacks to the recruiting!!!

1. Three ships: Rylan my beloved they do no wrong. theyre the epitome of awkward bashful and honest gay summer teen romance with the perfect contrasting note of horrific life threatening monsters which is unsurpassable genre peak. and yeah ngl its pretty rare that i get behind a ship but two others i can think of are amity/luz from the owl house (but mostly in season 1 because they do cute anxious crushing stuff and after that they just kind of turn into supportive gf A and supportive gf B), and legosi/louis from beastars because how do you just gloss over neurotic homophobe slut ptsd theatre twink x weird brooding puritan loser freudian pervert and the fact that it does WORK too like hello

2. First ever ship: i wanna say gregg and angus from night in the woods?? i remember i was in that weird sexual orientation puberty where you literally know you're gay but it's not like a consciously meaningful part of your identity so i remember seeing them and thinking wow that's cool that they're boyfriends i guess idk. also i'm inexorably drawn to their existence for some reason and my lockscreen is them cuddling with the lazy morning light peeking through the curtains

3. Last song: My Kink is Karma - Chappell Roan, im a sucker for moody electronic pop and that album DELIVERS

4. Last film: i watched the first three movies in a pirates of the caribbean marathon with some friends which ngl after the first one feels like trying to suck sugar water out of a sock 😶 the last film i personally chose to watch was the 1976 Carrie! it was nice being able to watch it and appreciate it as an adult with an education and not a teen recluse going "yeah carrie you show those villain highschoolers what's what"

5. Currently (re)reading: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night! i have my old copy from highschool open next to me and the 2012 shakespeare's globe production up and i just sit and sift between watching and reading and analysing it, just like when i first learned it in class. i'm not really sure why i wanted to reread it again in the first place, but i find it kind of soothing to read older texts where the language and culture's a little ways off from its modern successors. i find it calming to kind of pull those stories back in a way we can understand with its old contexts and writing, and see more and more of that timeless human experience shine through. sudoku for english nerds i guess LOL

6. Currently watching: my watcher's stamina has actually gotten so shit im ngl like i actually haven't watched a show in months 😭😭😭 the last show i watched was bluey (which was pretty good! (and pretty indicative of the kind of attention span ive got these days 😂👌))

7. Currently consuming: this horrible like nutraloaf nightmare bowl i made because my appetite was really poor today and at 5 pm or so i was like ugh well id better eat something quick and dense if im not gonna have a proper meal so i insulted God and put together reheated smashed potato (in the microwave so they lost all their crunch and flavour) + dried roasted edamame beans + peanut butter + regular butter + cheddar + yoghurt + whole salted almonds in a bowl and had a slice of walnut fig cake as a side. that thing needed a censor bar like i was in the trenches trying to get that down im ngl. eating that meal took more energy out of me than what it gave back like i knew i made something unholy and then immediately paid for it like it was so frankenstein and his monster right there on that kitchen counter

8. Currently craving: literally anything after that like god damn 😭😭😭😭😭 otherwise ive been hankering for a good chana masala and naan combo cus there's literally never a day where i'll turn south asian cuisine down like aw man i shouldve just gone out and got some of that to eat today ugh god damn it

serious spoilers for jrwi bitb, riptide, pd, and apotheosis

as ive been watching apotheosis, ive really come to love jrwi as a whole. and rumi talking a lot about how many lives hes lived, how many they may live after, gets me thinking.

i know its not an uncommon headcanon for rumi to have lived as all of grizzly's jrwi player characters. i may not have yet seen convergence or the fated, and i havent fully completed any of the oneshots available, but i definitely see this.

so, rumi has lived the lives of many. they have many names, their soul everchanging.

rumi once would be a child tormented by loss after loss, wishing again only for peace to those he loves. maybe he'd find love again, maybe he'd lose his faith in it. maybe he'd fear it.

rumi would be a rockstar, living that lavish life he knew would always be his, dying for a cause, for loved ones he'd never dream of leaving behind. he'd always know the weakness of his soul -- his own sense of love.

rumi could even find themselves as a divine entity once more, that of a trickster who could grant someone's deepest desire. even then, would he see love? maybe he's bitter. maybe he's just now lost peter.

but it's not like rumi's soul would be the only one to find itself in another life.

maybe peter would find himself as just another scared kid. maybe this time, he wouldn't just want peace. he'd want to live. he'd maybe hope -- no, dream of finding rumi once more. and when he did, he just didn't want to lose that again.

then, maybe, he'd try to be what could have saved them all. maybe he could live in another lifetime as a strong paladin, protecting those he loved and -- oh, there it is again: destiny. purpose. maybe he'd fall down the same path as thanatos.

and maybe, just maybe, he'd find rumi in one more life. maybe he could, again, love him to his very end. and maybe even hate himself for being what kills them both.

and thanatos, too, would find his story did not end with slaying gods.

maybe he'd live as yet another being created as a weapon, an artificial man who would still love the world and those around him. yet again, he'd watch as those around him taught him more about love and life than he could ever offer knowledge in war.

could he, then, live as a more mellow man, laidback and mirroring that which he learned from rumi as he saves someone he sees himself in from a path which would lead to nothing more than pain maybe he'd learn more about himself, then, aswell.

and then, he could just get tired. he could wait for his soul to finally burn out. he'd get angry. paranoid. would he not wish for it all to just be over? numb the pain, end up just losing again. watching those he loves torn from him again. that happy ending he never wished for, ambiguous.

and along the way, they could cross paths with yet another soul who just wants peace.

a soul with many lives; one who lived as a pushover lawyer that overcame endless terror; one who lived as a pirate sick of her old life, choosing her path for herself; one who, despite losing his home, wanted nothing more than the love of those surrounding him now.

and maybe, just maybe, in a perfect world, another lifetime -- they'd all be at peace, together, recalling times of both love and loss, companionship and war, and all-around joy.

tHE blush centered pirate fic that has yet to have a name PART 4

-So they all get back on the ship and everyone is treated to the best Buttons can do because as much as he's a doctor he can really only do so much on a ship

-Mush was sewed up and bandaged, he now sleeps for most of the trip back

-Katherine and Blink wait for him as does everyone but despite Buttons telling Kid Blink to go and lay down, Blink doesn't listen and really only leaves unless Katherine says something

-Buttons makes his rounds with the help of Romeo who is his little nurse (fight me, I dare you), most of them have cuts or bruises, and people like Sarah, Finch, and Snitch got deeper cuts so they had to get stitches

-Race, Spot, and the rest of the crew were treated for the rope burns and Spot was told not to speak for a few days, he shot a glare to Buttons and Race laughed harder than necessarily

-Katherine was getting doctored by Sarah seeing as Buttons had so much on his plate and she didn't have too much just a few cuts and some bruises on her wrists when she was dragged away from Mush

-there might also be a little kiss but ill never tell

-Jack comes in one day with some breakfast for Blink when he sees Mush is awake

-He smiles upon seeing Blink smile so brightly with his boy wrapped around him

-Jack calls for Buttons who immediately shoves Blink out the door so he could examine Mush, Blink does not like this but Jack stops him from doing anything stupid

-David then comes to them and points out that they are almost to Ivory and Blink has never been so glad to be home

-That's why he set sail in the first place, to get away from this island and try to live a new life, and he kinda did, besides almost getting killed he got to live a new life

-Buttons let Katherine and Blink see Mush after an hour and they all cry, then Blink introduces Mush and Katherine along with Spot and his gang properly to everyone

-Everyone smiles and they have a big dinner that night, Blink helping Mush to the dining area,they watch the sunset and kiss

-And by the next sunrise there at Ivory

-Once home Medda and the rest of the council rush out to see that there all alive and well

-While Blink is helping Mush down the ramp, Medda rushes over

-"KID BLINK YOU BETTER NOT SAIL AGAIN, FROM THE RUMORS IVE HEARD YOU ALMOST GOT BEHEA-"

-She quiets down seeing a shaking boy next to Blink "Oh Blink who is this?"..."My boyfriend Miss Medda"

-A few whistles can be heard as well as cheers for the two, both blush and Medda smiles and introduces herself

-They unload everything and Blink takes Mush to his room in the big house they all live in, Mush is amazed at his room and loves everything in it

-Blink lets Mush barrow his clothes and now Mush never wants to take them off

-A celebration is thrown and everyone is happy and dancing and Mush feels so alive its killing him

-When they go to Blink's room to finally sleep, Mush hugs Blink tight and whispers he's scared

-Blink tells him he'll protect him again if anything happens but Mush cuts him off with a kiss and tells Blink he will be the one to save Blink

indie games! like just all of them in general. right now im playing everhood (i just got to the halfway mark, if you know you know) and i just bought fight knight from it being 80% off. i love indies for how weird theyre allowed to get with their styles and gameplay and how much freedom you have to explore ludonarrative that way and aaaaa

piracy! first i promise that i never pirate indie games, ive got a personal code of honour that i only pirate big-budget or retro stuff where it probably wont be noticed if i buy it or not anyway. besides, i spend most of my time pirating anime anyway. ive got a huge collection of series that i organize with kodi, right now im watching heavenly delusion to keep myself from getting bored when i use my elliptical machine

ive been getting more into baking and cooking lately! right now its mostly simply, ive been told i make a killer bruschetta and im pretty good with lo mein too. it not only the level of indies or piracy where its like, my friends defer to me when the topic comes up, but its still something fun

alksfjlsfi ive been trying to figure out how to answer this for the last two days without inciting hoards of crazy white people to my inbox but the best way to put it is i'm not watching the show for him? he interests me only insofar as what he means to louis, claudia and their family dynamic. he's a compelling antagonist in s1, fun at times but also very hateable at times. he definitely deserves to die 1000 times but he's also a necessary driving force for the show, yet if he ever became the sole lead of the show i would probably stop watching cause its like captain jack sparrow taking over the pirates movies. its way too much and over the top to be a full time thing for me. overall i just find louis, claudia and armand to be more interesting on the show cause the adaptation has created a lot of mystery with their characters whereas i feel like i get what lestat's deal is and it's whatever to me lol.. but i am looking forward to him meeting louis again in the present day.

so im back again looking at dc’s original sin and their recent hypocrisy over depicting human rights, and this time its bruce timm’s dcau. you know, the one where batman is a groomer and sleeps with babs.

yeah. no shit they mess everything up. continued under the cut

in the amazons-centered episode “fury” there’s explicit war crimes. aresia, who will grow up to be an amazon intent on murdering every man in the world, witnesses victorious enemy soldiers opening fire inside houses and bombing her village. when she and her mother escape to a refugee ship, armed pirates take everything and then blow it up as they’re leaving.

this? this is actually a decent depiction of war for a so-called kids show. they’re clearly capable. which should make one think, gee, are they going to apply that same careful treatment to other horrors that happened in real life?

haha oh boy. this entire 3-part episode was a disrespectful clusterfuck and the writers were completely self-aware that it was a disrespectful clusterfuck. and im going to tell you why.

1) horrible alternate history writing.

well. this had to be the most braindead attempt at alternate history ive ever seen (along with everything else dc has touched relating to wwii) and it’s only topped by spike tv’s alternate history, which has a similar scenario to this one.

so it’s 1944. d-day fails and is the “beginning of the end omg omg” for the allied powers. i assume they mean the western powers because apparently, no american audience gives a shit about the soviet union and their vital part in beating nazi germany more than we ever could. and you know, how they were literally fighting for their lives against an entire country that wanted to wipe them out as a people.

also notable is that they leave out the pacific theater. because nooooo we can’t make fantasy bullshit about imperial japan!! but somehow nazi germany is okay to include in your shitty superhero setup.

yeah. so we later learn that vandal savage got all of his information from a laptop equipped with a cd player (lmao good luck charging that) with some loaded tidbits on how to win world war ii. it’s all cliche shit that you would learn from the history channel. “bla bla, hitler too crazy bla bla, need better technology bla bla bla, also d-day, bla bla bla.”

jesus christ did they just get super stoned and then watch one (1) documentary?

the technology in question is literally spiky rolling pins and jet planes. sorry dc, fancy technology isn’t going to save a dying war effort against a country that’s already developing an atomic bomb. nazi germany was fucked at this point and everyone knew it. nothing was ever going to bring it back. sorry. that’s the truth. dc also seems to have this problem with the typical “nazis get the bomb” scenario. which, doesn’t work either by the way, because they thought “atomic science was jewish.”

and don’t come at me with that “it’s just alternate history” excuse. alternatehistoryhub and pretty much everyone called out spike tv for the exact same divergence. this shit doesn’t get a pass either. bad storytelling is just bad storytelling.

now, if it was about america i mean the allied powers going full scorched-earth and leaving savage’s germany a radioactive, infertile wasteland…maybe id like it. it would be somewhat better than the crap we got here.

tldr: vandal savage is your average sweaty laptop-bound hoi4 player looking for worldwide validation. he gets an idea to send all of his hoi4 tactics to his 1940s self. the nazis then win the war with giant killer rolling pins.

that’s it. that’s the plot.

2) explicit holocaust denial and revisionism.

this one was only implied throughout the episode, but it was actually confirmed by the producers and writers behind the episode:

so stan berkowitz really ran his mouth here. because apparently, “to kill lots of people [in campaigns such as the holocaust] requires effort and manpower that could have been put to use elsewhere better, like defending the country.”

….

okay.

so. the holocaust was industrialized to the extreme. it was not a ‘bad allocation of resources’ that ‘could have went somewhere better.’ it was linked to the war, especially in the eastern front, where the goal was to ethnically cleanse and enslave eastern europe and replace its reduced population with ethnic german settlers. everything about it was all planned and discussed. figures were laid out. thought was put into the extermination of entire groups of people. the final solution was only the start.

what kind of ‘wasted effort and manpower’ are we talking about here? the einsatzgruppen following behind the wehrmacht? that process was phased out, but not because it was a ‘drain on manpower.’ the nazis wanted a more ‘efficient’ way of executing mass murder that could be done faster and with the ‘best results.’ the extermination camp system was the answer to that. killings were mechanized via the gas chambers and bodies were disposed of in the crematoriums, rather than being routinely shot and disposed of in mass graves. the only argument i could see for ‘manpower’ is the camp personnel, but even then it wasn’t the personalized approach to killing that defined the einsatzgruppen. starvation, forced labor, brutal conditions, and illness were killing the surviving camp prisoners too.

and it was the whole point. the holocaust was a deliberately structured, planned nightmare meant to kill off thousands of people just for existing. nazi germany applied the lessons of the assembly line to mass murder. to characterize it as a ‘pointless waste of resources’ reeks of historical insensitivity and ignorance. removing it from nazi germany is enabling holocaust revisionism and denial. both of which are common today. now you have a history in the dcau where “the holocaust was either cut short or never happened at all.” by doing this, you are spitting on millions of people by suggesting, even in a fictional context, that their trauma never happened. you are delegitimizing the memory of the holocaust by deciding, intentionally, to whitewash it outright.

the problem isn’t just that they couldn’t depict the holocaust. it’s that they knew, and chose not to because it would break their whole narrative.

the rest it is typical cowardice and ignorant writing. ‘defending the country’ as if nazi germany hadn’t started the european theater on its own after making a false-flag attack? what kind of ‘defense’ are we talking about here? if you start a war and other people fight back, that’s on you, dumbass. you reap what you sow.

and this thing with savage apparently ‘stopping’ the holocaust by being ‘professional’ if there even is such a thing in wartime? is that supposed to make me empathize with the character somehow? “yuh he work for nazis and is ebil dictator but least he’s not a fanatical murdering racist hurr durr!!!”

which brings me onto the main problem here.

3) portrayal of nazi germany and nazism as an ideology in general.

i think you have a serious problem on your hands if you’re going to use the iconography and history of nazi germany, but then shy away from depicting it accurately. am i supposed to suspend my belief and accept that a bunch of violent racist shitstains allowed a non-german foreigner, who is canonically a caveman and most likely classified very low in the nazi racial hierarchy, to just walk in and take over just because of ‘cool technology?’ and then gets allowed to halt their genocide program based on racism and eliminationism literally in the ideology?

i’m going to tell you something that you probably don’t want to hear. vandal savage would not be accepted in anything near the nazi party. at best he’s denounced as a freak against nature (as pretty much every other metahuman would be, despite this whole ‘superhuman’ narrative that people are trying to conflate to nazi racism) and his plans are stolen and credited to some other asslicking sycophant. what does his dcau version have besides immortality? maybe he’s ordered to be killed and it obviously fails. but being immortal doesn’t mean you can’t feel pain. or that your brain won’t eventually snap from the helplessness of surviving everything, living with the humiliation and never being allowed to end it.

didn’t like that? sorry, that’s the reality of nazism, racism, and exclusionary eliminationist mentality in general for you.

in the episode, nazism doesn’t get much of an explanation besides the general “take over the world” bullshit. swastikas and iconography are conveniently censored out, which is a problem in itself. unless you’re following the law, like say in germany, if you have to censor out parts of nazi germany, ideology and iconography included, because its not ‘appropriate’ for your audience…then maybe, you should try another plotline instead of sanitizing history. which shouldn’t be a problem for the dcau in the first place, because, once again. they have shown literal scenes of war crimes being committed against a child and her fellow refugees.

but dc comics has a bad history with this topic overall, and im going to confidently say that i’ve never seen anything that depicts nazism, explicitly named, as accurately as it should be. j michael stracynski’s first volume of wonder woman odyssey does a great job at explaining the methodology of genocide and the banality of evil without ever bringing nazi germany into the equation. it’s not even set in world war ii at all, but there is some offhand imagery that invokes nazi mass murder nonetheless. and it’s not surprising, considering JMS has personal experience with the ideology. his own abusive father was a war criminal and nazi collaborator.

dc can portray the ideology accurately and with the respect that the victims deserve, both historical and modern day. anyone can, if they do enough research. but the problem is, most of their ‘fun ideas’ lose the plot when confronted with the real horrors that they can’t face. there is no ‘fun’ in any of this. you either accept that truth and write conscientiously, or you fuck off back to your lane and never go near the topic at all. because it’s better not to have exploitative stories than suffer through actually reading one.

4) superhero brainrot over reality.

so why did the writers knowingly erase the holocaust from the dcau and omit all explicit references to nazi germany, even as they depicted other war crimes elsewhere and actually had a character intent on committing a global genocide?

the answer is simple. they even admitted it themselves.

that’s right. they didn’t care for the millions of lives lost in world war ii, or the human cost of that period to the point where “genocide” was coined as a legal term for the first time. no, this entire thing started off the base desire to recreate the jingoistic, american war propaganda of the golden age and satisfy some kind of itch. style was the motivator here over substance. that’s all. their own words speak for themselves.

conclusion

unless they have a personal, even harrowing connection to the ideology or knowledge of the topic (as jms does with his family history, or someone who has seen the ideology up close), a majority of people in the comic industry do not care about depicting the horrors of reality accurately. their motives are small-minded and focused on escapism. what the dcau writers wanted was a modern version of the golden age propaganda, where the american public knew next to nothing of the details in the final solution and nazis were just ‘stock villains.’ it couldn’t work, not with the knowledge we have today. so they cut out the holocaust, censored everything incriminating and watered it down to the point where it didn’t really matter.

and who out there, except a couple of people, are actually talking about it? for the most part, nobody else in the industry or the consumer market seems to care. look at the writers who are actually taking inspiration from this, or people citing it as something ‘decent’ for storytelling.

haha. oh god. we’re fucked.

tldr: despite being more than capable of depicting war crimes: the dcau writers couldn’t handle the reality of nazi germany and the holocaust, but still wanted their world war ii propaganda copium, so they intentionally pissed away every drop of their remaining self-respect and somehow got away with it.

so okay. for reference, cable aka nathan summers is this time-traveller who was born many years in the future in a dystopic society. his goal was to hop around and prevent that future from happening. he ended up joining the xmen and yadda yadda, rest is history. domino is his on-again off-again love interest and deadpool is his partner. i'll get to it in a moment

so dominos power is being able to control luck. no, really. she gives her opponents bad luck and in turn gives herself good luck. it is (from the wiki) "…largely participatory - in order for the luck to take effect, domino herself must engage in an action whose chance she can affect. for example, if domino were to stand before a hail of bullets, she would be shot. instead, she must take action; in attempting to avoid the gunfire, she will miraculously bob and weave just right to avoid every single shot." which is SO interesting on its own to pull vriska analysis from. also, one kind of funny note about her design is that her right eye is surrounded by black in the shape of an eyepatch! that eye also glows sometimes. so you see why i think she was the inspiration for vriska. there's also a lot of similarities with her backstory and personality but i'm not a domino scholar and i don't wanna mischaracterize her here so all i can say is if you want to know more about her and how she inspired vriska, check the wiki lmfao

so now lets wrap around to cablepool, the best example of nicieza yaoi this side of the mississippi. i will be perfectly honest this one isnt even subtext its just canon. they quite literally went to intercourse pennsylvania together. you can watch this amv for examples of what their dynamic is like ive been entranced by it for all of today. also this one because its really funny. regardless. so deadpool was originally created in new mutants vol 1 issue #98 as a mercenary who was hired to take out cable so they spent a lot of their early years trying to kill each other. they are forced to stop avoiding or attempting to kill each other in cable & deadpool vol 1 because of this virus that had infected both of them and thus the only way for them both to survive was to merge their dna structures in an event which i like to call cablepool homoerotic goop cannibalism. the result of this is that cable cannot time travel without taking deadpool with him. following your lover across the multiverse because of fate and to save the world? thats vrisrezi as hell! anyway they cure the virus and they get to stop bodysliding together woohoo. a similar thing happens when cable gets lost in alternate universes and deadpool has to travel through a bunch to save him. then there was everything with cable and providence … so providence was this little paradise island that cable built off of his orbital station called providence that got attacked by aliens and space pirates and deadpool ran in to help only to find oops! cable doesnt actually fully trust him! so cable 'dies' (he doesnt actually die he comes back) along with providence because thats how much he doesnt trust deadpool. which is reminiscent of the jack noir confrontation innit? vriska was so convinced of her own heroism and skill and so afraid of trusting others that she preferred to die than not be at the center of the narrative (fitting as well since deadpool is obviously a very meta character lol). they havent interacted a whole lot beyond that after cable & deadpool ended because the x-editors are evil and hate me and they hate nicieza yaoi and also deadpool is now a Popular Character so they have to tear him away from his roots and make him gay with spiderman instead for some reason. but i get it. get me on a cable & deadpool book i'll be normal (i will not be normal). anyway that book ended in 2008? iirc? which means it was likely On The Mind whilst writing homestuck. and if hussie wasnt into deadpool but WAS into daredevil enough to make a daredevil clone oc i will eat my hat because deadpool And specifically cable & deadpool is like, completely in tune with their writing style. anyway theres my proof that domino is vriska but cablepool is vrisrezi that was most certainly not an excuse to talk about my xmen Hope you all enjoyed it👍
