3rd anni enstars IF story -- story 1
Writer: @ inlandeempire
Translated by: jewwyfeesh
Characters: Kiryuu Kuro, Kagehira Mika, Hakaze Kaoru, Oogami Koga
Theme: "If they're to pick out flowers for someone…"
Disclaimer: this was performed as part of the enstars IF section during the CN 3rd Anniversary stream (37:16 - 40:57). the stories are submitted by fans and two were picked out to be performed live.
translated from CN subs with reference to the script that they posted on screen.
this is story 1 of 2.
Kuro: Is Kagehira workin’ here? It’s pretty hard work.
Mika: ‘Tis not for monetary reasons, but rather ‘cause I’m stuck tryna think up some ideas for a performance… Notta mention, the store owner’s taken care of me before… So I’d thought that maybe takin’ care’of the store might change my mood ‘round.
Koga: Mm, this method’s pretty effective. When I hit a mental block, I’d bring Leon out for a run. A change of scenery really does call forth new ideas.
Mika: Kiryuu-senpai, are’ya here to buy flowers?
Kuro: Mhm, my lil sister’s birthday’s comin’ up soon, and I don’t really know what a girl of her age would like as a gift… Even if I were’ta sew her some clothes, I’m likely to be shunned. Maybe a cute flower bouquet would be to her likin’? Or… would it be more fashionable to pick a potted plant instead?
Kaoru: Yaho~
Mika: Today’s customers are all familiar faces I see.
Kaoru: Sorry, I accidentally overheard your conversation, and couldn’t resist butting in.
Kuro: Hakaze, do ya have any recommendations?
Kaoru: What about making accessories out of preserved flowers? It seems to be the in-thing these days.
Mika: Mm, this particular store’s able ta help preserve the flowers chosen by the customers!
Kaoru: Not to mention, Kiryu-kun would definitely want to gift his sister something that he made with his own two hands, no? Preserving your carefully selected flower, before turning it into an accessory… it’s way more meaningful than any regular flower bouquet out there~ ♪
Kuro: That ain’t a bad idea… I’ll think it over…
Koga: Aa—ACHOO…!
Kaoru: Koga-kun’s wearing a mask in a flower shop and he’s still unable to avoid sneezing altogether… Poor thing…
Mika: Uwaaaah… I forgor that there’s another customer! Oogami-kun, are ya here to buy some flowers too? Yer can tell me what’cha want!
Koga: Mm, I’d like’ta reserve one of those flower baskets[1] congratulatin’ a successful performance, and have it delivered to the nearby Livehouse next week. Is that possible?
Mika: Lemme write that down… Is the flower delivery address the same Livehouse that Hakaze-senpai used’ta manage?
Kaoru: Well, someone else has replaced me in the managerial position~ Even so, I do go back once in a while to check on things. The performance next week… Say, is that the band that Koga-kun’s been looking after?
Koga: Mhm. ‘Cause its meant for a Rock’n’Roll band, I needa pick a super duper cool flower basket!!
Kuro: Hakaze’s still plenty familiar with his own business.
Mika: Yer can have a look at this catalog for the various flower basket arrangements! Though yer need to book them in advance… same goes for Kiryuu-senpai’s preserved flowers.
Kuro: In that case, I’ll go pick out the flowers I’d like to use from the shelves.
Koga: A-a-a… ACHOO! Lend me that catalog, ‘m goin’ out to have a look! Hakaze-senpai, since yer free, help me decide which one’s more suitable!
Kaoru: Ehh? Kiddo, you’re asking for my help so naturally?
Koga: It’s gonna be placed at the door of the Livehouse, so it’s not like it ain’t got nothin’ to do with you.
Kaoru: Ah. Yeah, that’s true. Let’s look through the catalog together, then~
Mika: Hehe, I, too, have found inspiration for ma’ design. The decor for the next stage will have flowers as its main theme… fresh flowers, potted plants, dried flowers, preserved flowers… Creatin’ different results through a variety of combinations…
Translator's notes:
[1] he's talking about those flower baskets that you prop up on huge stands?? that are like "from X to Y, congratulating you on a successful shop opening" or whatever www

Explore my bookshelf!
Tagged by @antares0606 thank you very much!
An estimate of how many physical books I own: Somewhere between too many and ∞. They reproduce under cover of darkness, I swear. Every time I box some up to donate I find more on the shelves.
Favorite author: Hard one! In English, in my current mood: Mary Oliver and Annie Dillard.
A popular book I've never read and never intend to read: How to Win Friends and Influence People ;). I'll just keep trying to figure it out on my own, thanks very much Dale Carnegie.
A popular book I thought was just meh: Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers. Marginal science AND purple prose.
Longest book I own: The Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening. One volume; makes an excellent step-stool when my gardening zest wears off.
Longest series I own all the books to: A to Z Mysteries, left over from my children's younger days.
Prettiest book I own: A gorgeous 1933 edition of the Arthur Rackham Fairy Book.
A book or series I wish more people knew about: I'm very fond of nonfiction that was well-regarded but has since lost its audience. Today's recommendation is Beautiful Swimmers, the 1977 Pulitzer winner for nonfiction by William W. Warner. Blue crabs, the Chesapeake Bay, disappearing ways of life on the water.
Book I'm reading now: Just finished another reread of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Still leaking tears...
Book that's been on my TBR list for a while but I still haven't got around to it: Everything Now, by Rosecrans Baldwin. Someday!
Do you have any books in a language other than English: Yes, in Arabic and Italian, for pleasure; in Russian, which I don't read, but which my son is ever hopeful I'll join him in learning, I guess by osmosis; and in a myriad of other non-dominant languages, for work.
Paperback, hardcover, or ebook?: If hardcover, then a library binding, for delightful crinkles and heft. If paperback, an older version that smells well-loved and is just starting to crumble around the edges. Never an ebook. I prefer my own voice in my head.
Tagging anyone who wants in, but in particular @cuarthol @polutrope @eilinelsghost @searchingforserendipity25

Rose
When Annie found Mary, she was in the garden among the roses. They were in full bloom; a sea of red, yellow, orange, white and pink, and Mary was sitting in the middle of its waves, her eyes unfocused and her mind very far away. It was a side of her Annie had only rarely caught glimpses of before, and every time she had, she’d found herself missing the shy smile that usually lit up Mary’s face when they were together. Today was no exception. Annie had no idea why it mattered so much to her, that smile; she just knew that it did.
She had to tread carefully, though. Mary was a gentle, sensitive soul. When she was lost in memories of times long gone, trying to cheer her up would not work, especially not by force. Annie had learned that the hard way. She’d been like a dog with a bone and only realised she’d crossed a line when Mary wordlessly got up and left her standing in the rain. Mary had refused to talk to her for a week after that – a week that had felt like a month to Annie. Rogh could barely string a sentence together and Humphrey, while pleasant enough most of the time, was just so terribly dull that she’d found herself bored out of her mind not even two days after Mary had given her the cold shoulder.
These days, Annie was more careful when she approached Mary when she was in a melancholic mood. She kept her steps deliberately light as she sat down next to her among the roses. Bees were buzzing all around them and happily humming as they went from one blossom to the next. For a breath or two, Annie sat perfectly still in their midst before she turned to Mary and carefully placed her hand on her arm to get her attention. “Mary?”
Mary blinked as if waking from a dream. “Oh. Where didst thou cometh from?”
Annie nodded at the house. “From inside. I’ve been looking all over for you. What are you doing out here?”
“Remembering,” Mary sighed softly before she turned her attention back to the roses. It took all of Annie’s willpower not to ask her what she meant. Instead, she followed Mary’s gaze to the white flower and its pink tips in front of them, wondering what her friend was seeing and silently hoping Mary would tell her. Patience was not her strong suit, not since she’d died and learned what true freedom meant. But for Mary, she was willing to wait. An eternity, if need be.
“Dids you have children?” Mary asked her softly after the silence had stretched along with the shadows the sun cast.
Annie shook her head. “No. The life I had – I did not want any children to be silenced like I’d been.”
Mary hummed in understanding. “I dids. Five babes. None lived beyond the age of three.”
Oh, Annie thought and felt her heart break quietly.
“My last child was a daughter,” Mary went on, still looking at the rose. “She was a pretty little thing, rarely cried. We called her Rose – ‘twas because she was a summer child, you see?”
“It’s a beautiful name,” Annie said softly.
Mary nodded and then, very quietly, said, “Tis her birthday today.”
“Oh Mary,” Annie whispered and wrapped an arm around her to pull her close. “Is there anything I can do?”
She felt Mary lean into her touch with a sigh that bore the weight of years of sadness. “We used to sing for our children when they were born.”
Annie could just imagine Mary and her husband gazing down at their daughter with love in their eyes as they celebrated her life. She could also imagine the underlying fear, the terror of, What if we lose her to winter and sickness like all the others? and desperately wished life had been kinder to Mary and her family.
“Let’s sing for little Rose, then,” she said with a smile that showed nothing of her own sadness she felt for her best friend. “So she knows she’s not forgotten.”
Mary gave her a grateful look, and as their voices rang out in the garden, the wind carried the melody up into the blue sky where the bright light that had once taken Rose was waiting for all of them.

Reiner's gonna be giving names to all his houseplants. One of them is a cactus named Pock. 🌵
H'okay, SO! Here's the thing Nonnie, I've been sittin on answering this ask cause only one thing has populated my mind since reading it and I was like, Nat pull yourself together girl and stop being a weirdo all the time. But the thing is, Nonnie. That would be burying a very important piece of myself and at the age of 30 I said I wasn't doin that shiz anymore. (also this is a dramatic buildup for no real good reason lol)
What I haven't been able to dislodge from my mind is the image of a cactus my friend has that is a very, particular shape. And It's had me thinking that Reiner just names his plants after friends in general (cause he tries to be friends with Pock now that they're grown but Pock is Pock sooo... yeah) And he's actually not even the one who named it after Porco, Annie of all people suggested it.
Annie: "It pricks, he's a prick. It fits." Uncaring shrug.
Now generally Annie keeps things to herself. But you see, Nonnie. Earlier in the day, she'd had a late start to the morning and gotten to her favorite bakery way past prime pastry buying time. Hang with me, It's coming together, promise. So. She's there, waiting in the exorbitantly long line, this is why she likes to get there super early. And Pieck spots her from up closer to the register. Pieck comes to engage her in convo, which with Annie being in more of a mood than usual, is really just Pieck trying to catch up and Annie giving small grunts here and there in response.
Porco was with Pieck, cause of course he was. He stayed in line and is at the register now. He doesn't even have to call Pieck back up cause he already knows the orders that she prefers. So he orders and also just happens to choose a particular pastry from the display case that is the last of its kind. He's never tried this one before and he's feeling adventurous today.
As the barista opens the case to draw out the delicious confection, Annie's eyes widen. It was the one she'd come for. The thing that could lift her spirits out of the dank, festering, turgid mass of shittiness she'd already endured so early in the day.
The line moved forward. She remained. Eyes trained on Porco as he sauntered over to Pieck's location next to her, still waiting on their drink orders to come up. It took everything in Annie not to snatch the flakey ambrosia from his grimey fingers before he took a huge bite. Buttery crumbs falling against the worn brown leather of his bomber jacket.
And yet, what solidified her ire. The slight that stitched spite so steadfast throughout her spirit to spark such an unanticipaited conversational contribution hours later that day...
After Pieck asked him how the delicacy tasted, Porco had the audacity to mutter that it was alright.
Just, alright?!
Expertly, Annie forced down her boiling indignation. Outwardly, her icy blue eyes narrowed to slits as she turned her attention to finally moving up in line. She'd have to settle for her second favorite danish alongside her vanilla caramel frappé, but this event would long be remembered.
--------------------
Annie's suggestion actually wrings a hearty chuckle from Reiner and he can't deny the truth of her sentiments. So. Porco the cactus--Poctus if you will--is born.
The fact that as it grows it begins to take on a very peculiar shape only adds to it's list of nicknames. And Reiner isn't sure if he's fucked up taking care of it somehow or if the universe decided to bless him with something that sparks instant joy and amusement everytime he sees or thinks about the prickly succulent.
Alright for those that stuck with this unexpected rambling imagine, here is your reward. Hopefully it makes you laugh like it does my friends and I everytime we think of it.
I present to you....
Cocktus!

Mine, All Mine
Backstory- Anna and Sid are 2nd year college students who've been dating for a few months now and Sid seems to have quite a fan following.
Genre: Smut.
--------------------------------‐--------------------—--------------------–---------------
Anna was reading a book while Sid was completing an assignment in the uni cafeteria when a blonde girl walked towards them, speaking loudly. "Hi, Sid! Oh my God it's such a nice day what are you doing in here??"
Sid looked up from his paper and smiled at her politely. "Oh hi, Emily. I was just working on this pap-" "Look at you sitting there and working and looking just delicious. If you were my boyfriend I'd never leave you alone," Emily cut him off. At this, Anna peered over her glasses, head still buried in her book to check out the girl so shamelessly flirting with her boyfriend. She wasn't really the jealous type but this girl was starting to annoy her.
Sid chuckled uncomfortably, "Uh huh well, i AM here with my girlfriend so..." Emily looked at Anna, "Omg how embarrassing! I didn't see you there, hi I'm Emily!" She stuck out her hand. Anna, still peering at her over her glasses, gave her a tiny smile of acknowledgement and went back to reading, ignoring the hand and leaving it hanging. Sid felt Anna's mood change and said, "Em, I'll see you in class. I've gotta work on this assignment. Ok?" "Yeah, sure. Bye Sid! Miss you already!" Emily left, winking at Sid, not subtly.
Sid rolled his eyes and turned his attention to Anna, "Wow she's unbelievable. I try to shake her off but-" Anna cut him off by getting up and walking out of the cafeteria. Sid followed her trying to figure out what to say. He considered bringing his laptop but she was walking so fast that he decided he could just come back later and pick it up.
When they reached the corner that lead to the washrooms, Anna suddenly turned around, facing Sid. He stopped and looked at her. Something was definitely off. "Well, aren't you just so popular," she taunted him. "Anna, it's nothing. She's like that with everyone. I'm so-" Anna didn't let him finish his sentence (again) and pulled him by his leather belt. He jolted towards her, confused. "You're so polite... can't even shut down a girl making passes at you while your girlfriend is sitting right there,"
Sid was surprised. He hadn't seen Anna ever get jealous before. He tried to laugh but his breath got caught in his throat. He gulped and continued, "Are you jealous right now?" "Most definitely, yes. And you know what? I don't think I should let you slide with that." Saying this, she pulled him into a cubicle in the girl's washroom, still grabbing his belt. "What are you doing, Anny?" Sid asked, a little out of breath and quite aroused.
"You're getting punished, baby," she said in a husky voice that Sid hadn't heard before. Before he could react, Anna unbuckled his belt and started pulling down his corduroys. Anna had given him a blowjob once before, last week. That was the first time for both of them but she had been pretty good. Sid didn't like to admit how many times those visuals had crossed his mind during the last 4 days.
Anna got on her knees (well her knees didn't actually touch the floor, they were in a washroom after all) and rubbed the hardening dick through his boxers. She looked him directly in his eyes and he got harder immediately. "I want you to remember this. Think about it every time someone looks at you the way Emily today."
With that she pulled down his boxers and the fully erect dick sprang free. Anna licked a stripe along its shaft, eliciting a half sigh/half moan from Sid. He put one hand in her black hair but she stopped him. "No baby. You don't get to do anything." She took off her hair tie and tied both his wrists together. He clearly wasn't happy about this but his dick twitched, making Anna smirk and Sid blush.
Anna continued licking his dick and when it started leaking precum, she licked the slit on top, making Sid shudder and the moan he had been suppressing escaped his throat. Anna shook her head slightly, warning him against making any sound. This was going to be really difficult for him.
She then took his entire length in her mouth and worked on the base with her hand. Sid was biting down on his lip so hard that it had started bleeding. He had never felt like this before. It felt like he was transcending dimensions and he was so close... so close... when suddenly, Anna pulled away. "No!" Sid whimpered. His hard, red cock protesting. Anna stood up, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, "This is a punishment, baby. You're not being rewarded." She opened the door and began to walk out. Sid stopped her, "Anna what the fuck? Don't just..." he implored to her. Anna smiled evilly and said, "Pull up your pants baby. Come out and complete your assignment. Also, do NOT touch yourself... at all."
She strode out, leaving Sid begging for more. But he knew better than to cross her. So he stayed there for a few more minutes, trying to calm down (might have been the most difficult thing he'd had to do) and then, splashing a little water on his face, he joined Anna back at their table. He wouldn't disagree if you mention the way he had to keep adjusting himself was because every time he so much as glanced at Anna, all he could think about was what he wanted to do her because of the way he'd left him. (Also because of how arousing the whole ordeal had been and how he wanted to worship her for all the power she radiated).
Sid had another class to attend and then he decided to go home. Actually, he decided to go back to Anna's room. As he got there, he realized she wasn't back yet so he called her. "Yes..?" She asked, all innocent. "Where are you?" Sid asked, getting impatient. "I'm in the lab right now. Gotta check on the E.coli we've been growing. I'll be here for another half an hour I think. Why don't you use the spare key, get something to eat and wait for me?" Sid was kind of embarrassed that Anna already knew he'd be at her place but he just guffawed and was about to hang up when Anna said, softly, "Remember baby, you can't touch yourself. Bye bye!"
That one hour turned out to be the most agonizing wait of his life. He paced the room, lay down on Anna's bed, sniffing her pillowcase that smelled like her conditioner, got up again and looked out the window. Rinse and repeat a few hundred times when finally, he heard the keys turn in the keyhole and the door opened, revealing Anna. Sid could've sworn she had an aura about her. He didn't even wait for her to put down her bag. He slammed her against the door and kissed her hungrily. She retaliated, pulling at his hair. She pushed back till they were at the edge of her bed and threw him down. She took off her coat and glasses. "Strip," she commanded and Sid followed through immediately. He unbuttened his shirt and threw it on the chair where his coat rested and didn't look away from her eyes once while he got away with his trousers.
She licked her lips and pushed him back on the bed. When he tried to kiss her again, she pulled back. He growled in frustration but accepted his fate when she straddled him and started pulling of her shirt. She stripper painfully slow till she was just in her underwear, all the while making Sid drool in anticipation. She could feel his dick harden and get wet on her back but she purposefully ignored it.
After she was done, she got up from the bed and rummaged through her drawers, bringing back red ribbons. Sid realized what they were for. "Anna, please. I need to touch you. Please,"
"I need to keep reminding you, love. You're being punished here. Had you been good, you would've been able to touch me all you want. So, next time Ms. Emily pays you a visit, I hope you will remember what happens to bad boys who don't stop girls from flirting with them. Yeah?" When she finished, she had tied both his hands to her bed rest.
Then she stood at the edge of her bed, taking in the view before her, as she very slowly unhooked her bra and underwear and threw them on the floor. By this time, Sid's cock was angry and leaking and it physically hurt him, how hard he was. "Anna please... I'm sorry... you know I'd n-never... fuck!" The sudden feeling of Anna's tongue on his cock was enough to send him over the edge but the hand holding his base did not let that happen.
"I know you'd never do anything to hurt me like that baby. And I can see you haven't touched yourself since then. Thank you for being so good," she kissed the slit on his dick and then moved to his lips. It was a passionate kiss and Sid could've kissed her forever but he was so very needy right now, he couldn't help but whimper when he felt a hand graze his thighs. "Anna please...."
Anna pretended to not hear him and moved to his neck. She kissed him softly at first and then bit down on the skin right below his ear, where she knew he was the most sensitive, eliciting another moan.
"Mm you sound gorgeous, sweetheart. Let me hear how much you want me..."
Her voice sent shivers down Sid's back and made him twitch. He groaned when she straddled him again and kissed him down his chest. "Anna please..." he moaned. "Please what, baby? Use your words." He shuddered when he licked his nipple. "Pl-please fuck me. Let me in you. Let me- Let me cum please..."
His voice came out airy and high and Anna felt herself get wetter at the lewd sounds he was making. She decided she had had enough fun and gave him what he wanted. She lowered herself onto his leaking, red, rock hard dick and moaned as she felt it enter, inch by inch. Sid groaned loudly and had he not been controlling himself, he could've cum right then.
Anna started rocking back and forth. She closed her eyes and focused on the gravelly moans coming from the boy under him. His voice alone was enough to send her off the edge. She realized that Sid was holding back for her and bent down to kiss him. " I won't torture you any longer, baby". She pulled back from his cock and before he could register what happened, she took him in her mouth. All of him, choking a little as the base hit her uvula. She sucked him and he grunted, getting louder by the second. She felt him twitch and he finally came, convulsing and shuddering at the much needed release. He chanted her name and closed his eyes. NOW he had actually transcended.
Anna leaned over and wiped the tear rolling down Sid's left cheek, then she kissed him again, letting him taste himself.
When he started breathing normally again, Anna untied him and straddled him again. He didn't change the position but grabbed her by her waist, forcing her down on his still hard dick. Anna gasped at the sudden penetration and the words he said next, "You're the only one I'll ever want, my love. Let me prove it to you,"
He bucked his hips and started thrusting into her. Anna matched his rhythm and soon the room was filled with the sounds of heavy breathing and lewd moans. None of them held back. Anna leaned onto his chest as his hands found her hair and he went faster and harder than before.
When Sid could feel that Anna was close, he started rubbing her clit. The stimulation was too much for her to handle and she moaned his name, "Sid... sid... please I'm so close... I'm about to... oh fuck!"
"Cum for me baby. Cum for me," His husky, panting voice did it for her. She came violently shuddering and clenched around him. Her eyes rolled back as Sid rode out her orgasm, elongating it more than she could take. Then he pulled out of her and came all over her chest, moaning her name as he did.
Both of them lay down beside each other, breathing hard, never taking their hands off each other. After a few minutes, Sid turned to face Anna, who was already half asleep. "I love you, Anna. I love you with everything in me." It was the first time he had said that and wasn't even sure she heard. He pulled her into his chest and her whisper, "I love you too, Sid... I love you too,"

10 things I hate about you Ch.4
Warnings: mentions of suicide attempt
y/n's Pov
When I got back to class, I was instantly met by Annie.
"What took you so long"
"I-" I was going to make up some excuse, but she stopped me
"Were you crying?"
"No, I-" I was going to make up another excuse but again she stopped me
"Was Yeager out there?"
"U-" again she wouldn't let me finish my sentence
"I knew I should've gone, him and his friends usually smoke at this time. Did they bother you?"
"Y-"
"Who am I kidding of course they di-"
"Annie stop asking me questions if you aren't going to let me answer" I said getting aggravated
"Huh- oh sorry y/n I was really just talking to myself at this point I expected you to zone out or something"
"Anyways let's go warm up"
"Sure, and you can tell me what he did while we do so"
"Fine but you better not go crazy"
"Depends"
"That right there is why I'm not telling you"
"But you will"
I knew that she was right, so I just sighed and shook my head. if I didn't tell her she would spend an eternity trying to find out.
"Annie let's go" you said basically dragging her outside
(I don't think I said this, but Shadis's classroom has an indoor classroom with a door leading to the outside so if you are confused on why they aren't already outside its because they were standing in the classroom part. I don't know why I felt the need to include this lol)
When we got outside, Annie was still attempting to get the details of what had occurred in the hallway from me, so I told her. And to say that she was livid would be an understatement.
"Just wait till I find him; he'll wish he never laid a finger on you." Annie started rambling about everything she would do to him if he ever came near me again.
I couldn't help but smile when I realized how much she cared. I'd never had anyone care about me as much as Annie did, not even Hitch; she'd always tell me things like "just go with it." or "he just had a bad day, tomorrow will be better." Annie, on the other hand, was different. She was willing to snap anyone's neck, if she thought they were giving me the wrong look. But here's the strange thing: Annie wasn't like this for herself. If someone said something rude to Annie, she would simply walk away, not wasting any of her time.
"LISTEN UP RODENTS" Me and Annie heard Shadis say and immediately started to pay attention
"You will be partnered up for this activity"
Everyone started to look at who they wanted to be their partners to be, and you looked at Annie.
"don't get too happy, I will be choosing your partners" Shadis said with a sinister grin letting us know we most likely won't get the people we want
He began to say the partners once the number of sighs decreased.
"Hitch you're with Marlo" I could hear Hitch and her friends giggling when he said that because they were all aware of her crush on Marlo.
It was eventually my turn when only a few individuals remained, including Annie, so I crossed my fingers and hoped for Annie.
"Y/n you're with Mikasa"
After he said that, my whole mood switched from hopeful to scared. I wasn't scared of Mikasa, well I was but that's not why I was scared I was scared because Mikasa always tried to get every class Eren was in, so he was most likely in this class as well
And when I looked around to check sure enough, she was standing right next to him.
I didn't even notice Shadis had given everyone else their partners because I was to stuck in my own head
"Find your partners so I can explain the activity"
Everyone started to move but I was going to walk up to Shadis and ask to switch. As I was walking up to him, I felt someone grab my hand and yank me. I turned around to see Mikasa
She didn't say anything, she just dragged me, and I didn't stop her because I didn't want problems, especially not with Mikasa.
"Today we are going to be doing a fitness test" Shadis began to explain the directions
I was already aware of what Shadis had in mind for us to do, but I didn't see why we required a partner.
"Due to the fact that most of you had me last year, I didn't feel the need to work you to death. As a result, I gave you partners so that you could alternate activities; how you choose to rotate is entirely up to you and your partner. Quite frankly, I don't care if you don't work at all as long as at least one of you does something."
Well, that explained everything I was thinking.
"I'll do everything you can just sit or do whatever" Mikasa said
The girl most likely could do everything by herself and not lose any energy but I didn't want to let her work all alone like that. I mean we were a team for a reason.
"No, I can d-" She cut me off before I even got a chance to speak
"Listen I don't need your bad lungs and inability to stay on track messing me up so like I said I'm going to do everything and you're going to sit understood"
"Um my health might not be the best but I'm sure I can help with something" I said not even trying to hide how her words offended me
"Listen y/n like I said you aren't going to mess me up so no you aren't going to help with anything"
I gave up attempting to help because Mikasa was not going to let me, and the activities were about to begin, so if I made her late, I would only have given fuel to the fire. So, I proceeded to the bench where everyone else was waiting for their partners.
When I arrived at the bench, I was shocked to see Annie sitting there; the first activity was running, which she was good at, so I was wondering why she wasn't the partner running since they couldn't possibly be a faster runner than she was.
"Hey, why aren't you running" I said sitting next to her
"Renier had made a ridiculous bet with Connie that he would beat him in a race, so he insisted on running for us."
"Oh, that makes sense"
After chatting with Annie for a while, suddenly, someone approached me and threw a cup of ice water in my face.
"What the fuck" I said taken aback by the action
"What the fuck is your problem" I heard Annie say and my senses immediately came back because I knew Annie was probably going to get violent.
"Geez it was Just an accident" The person who spilt water on me said and I recognized the voice it belonged to one of Hitches friends her name was Abigail.
Abigail was a hoe like the rest of the girls in that group, but she was different because in addition to being a hoe she was a backstabbing home wrecker who was known for sleeping with one of her best friend's boyfriend and when her friend found out she had her friend beat up by multiple people and then when she realized her best friend had no one she paid dudes to act interested in her, get her nudes, and post them all on social media. This led her friend to make three suicide attempts, all of which failed. However, her friends' parents continued to press accusations against her, but Abigail pretended to be innocent, and her money, of course, bought her way out of the charges. She was also one of the girls who was obsessed with Eren to the point of making a one-night stand appear like a relationship and fabricating a pregnancy in order to keep him, so naturally when Eren told her that he still didn't want anything to do with her but would take care of his child she stopped because I'm guessing she realized how desperate she looked.
But she was also known for starting drama so when she threw water in my face Annie didn't take it lightly.
"Accident my a-" Annie was about to say something but I quickly interrupted her
"If she said it's an accident it probably is, no need to fuss over it"
"Yeah, it's not like you didn't need it" Abigail said
"What the hell is that suppose to mean" Annie said getting even more mad now
"I mean she looks dry as fuck does, she not"
For some reason I didn't notice Abigail attracted a crowd until I heard people snickering.
"Isn't that what every man you get with says after the first night, come on i'm going to need you to be more original" Annie was quick to defend you as usual.
The crowd grew louder, and the number of eyes on you increased your discomfort.
"The running is almost over I'm going to get Mikasa some water" you whispered to Annie
Although you probably shouldn't have left her alone, you didn't care because you needed to get away from this atmosphere, and if it meant letting Annie beat the fuck out of Abigail, so be it.
-
While you were gone, Annie and Abigail continued to argue, and Abigail's friends made the decision to get involved.
"Why do you even hang out with that junkie?" Abigail asked
"Why can't you ever shut the fuck up" Annie responded
"I'm just saying it's not like you gain anything from hanging out with her"
"You aren't supposed to gain anything from being friends with someone, but since you aren't a true friend, I suppose you wouldn't realize that."
"Friendship shouldn't be a burden, but because y/n is your only friend, I suppose you wouldn't realize that."
Annie did not have a response for that. She didn't think of you as a burden; rather, she was taken aback whenever you were referred to as her friend.
Because Annie had never seen someone like that before, and the fact that other people saw you like that made her question how close you two appear from the outside.
But nevertheless, Abigail took Annie's silence as her being defeated.
"Oh, so I guess the little druggy is a burden? I mean it's not that hard to tell it must get tiring having to pay for all her drugs, right?"
"Shut up you don't know anything about her"
"But I do I know she takes a lot after her mom if you know what I mean" Abigail said with a giggle which pissed Annie off
"And her dad - " Before Abigail could finish her sentence Annie cut her off
"How the fuck do you know that?" Annie was quick to shut her up because she knew you didn't want people to know any of this.
"Oh, I have my sources?" Abigail said referring to Hitch
Annie sent Hitch the dirtiest look which did not go unnoticed by Hitch
"Don't look at me like that, Annie; you don't even want to be friends with her, and we all know it's out of pity. Seriously, who wants to be friends with someone who has such a crappy life? She's pathetic really."
"She's the pathetic one? Hitch, you should be disgusted with yourself. You deserted someone who would have given you the world if you had asked for it, and for what? Some dick from a man who treats girls like they're nothing, and for friends who would ditch you the moment you even consider debating with them."
"So, what it's better than having a junkie for a friend"
"You are part of the reason she's a junkie"
"And that doesn't sound toxic to you Annie? She was that dependent on me that she had to use substances when I left"
"I'm not saying you're terrible for leaving that environment, but you did that to her: you gave her weed and promised her it would make her feel better, didn't you? You told her it would help her get rid of her issues, didn't you? You slept with Eren behind her back knowing how he treats her didn't you? But you didn't care because you never gave a fuck about her, did you?"
"I-" Annie didn't even let her finish her sentence
"You didn't, despite everything, and you don't now, because if you did, you wouldn't be going around discussing her family life."
Hitch couldn't say anything because she knew she was right.
"And, despite everything you've done to her, she'd still welcome you back with open arms."
Hitch still couldn't say anything.
"However, Hitch, she's more of a friend than you ever will be."
That was the last thing Annie said before leaving to find you because she knew you were probably crying from Abigail's hateful comment about you.

Hi! For Aruani ask game :3
2, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 16
Thank you for the ask!!
Sorry for not getting this done sooner. My work schedule is really taking a toll on me but here it goes...
2. Share your favorite part of your first ever fic.
Whew! I just started writing fics again after 5 years, and Hiding in Plain Sight is my first ever Aruani fic. Such a shame for someone who has been shipping them since 2013.
With the house quiet once again, Annie dragged her feet around, turning off the lights in the living room and closing the windows in the kitchen. She remembered she had left her slippers in her bedroom that morning, so she took off her shoes. Her bare feet touched the cold tiled floor, while her heart carried a heavy load of guilt. It was a guilt that would haunt her until her last breath. If only she could escape from her past mistakes, she would have done so by now. How should she tell him? Would he avoid her? Would he curse at her? Would he leave her behind? As she ran these thoughts through her head, fear tightened its grip on her. She wasn't built for confession, and she wasn't strong enough to lose something she wasn't ready to lose. Or was "lose" even the right word? She didn't know. He wasn't even hers to begin with.
5. Write about Armin and Annie's first meeting! Could be in canon settings or other au.
I'm a sucker for AUs so I will give an Actor AU a shot.
Armin felt more and more anxious as he repeatedly went over the script. Today was the first day they would shoot the scene at Stohess district, and the director had told them on the first day that the confrontation was one of the most iconic scenes in the manga, so most Attack on Titan fans were looking forward to the episode. (Armin knew this because he had googled fan sites.) Although he had worked with almost half of the cast, he had never worked with Annie Leonhart. He had heard from his co-actor Eren that Annie was quite intimidating to work with. Fifteen minutes had passed after the call time, but Annie's team had not yet turned up on set. The production assistant asked the trio to return to their tents to retouch their makeup. Armin glanced at the empty chair beside him. He sighed and was about to go through his script one last time when Annie and her makeup artist tripped over something behind Armin's chair. Shocked, Armin hurriedly stood up to help them. As he bent down to hold Annie's arm to pull her up, Armin's mind failed to register what had just happened. He was sure it was adrenaline that was to blame. When he looked up, their noses were almost touching. He had never felt his face heat up so quickly. As soon as he was sure that she could stand up on her own, he let go of her arm. He could distinguish a tinge of pink on her cheek when she turned her back away from him. When the day was over and the crew started to wrap up, Annie purposefully walked past Armin's family van and handed him a bag of donuts and a large cup of boba tea. She muttered, "This is my apology for being late on set today." Armin thanked her and smiled. Annie fidgeted before she added, "Everyone got one, so don't think about it too much." She then dashed away from him. When he looked around, everyone had donuts, but not boba milk tea. She had given him an extra treat. Since then, he always approached her whenever they got to work together. He was glad that she had come back to set for season 4.
6. Tell us about your longest fic
Actually, I initially planned to do some practice writing because I felt like I was getting rusty after years of not writing anything at all. But for some reason, I fell in love with imagining Armin as a prosecutor, and so my practice writing has turned into a 9-chapter story that is still ongoing.
11. What annoys you the most about your own writing habits?
My mood honestly depends on the weather. Like, I can only write properly when it's raining or when I have to go to work very early in the morning. Another habit I want to get rid of is my drinking problem. If I don't drink, I can't come up with anything. I know it's bad for my health. I've been trying to keep my body healthy these past few weeks, and I'm hanging in there. I'm also having a hard time writing when I'm outside and all the ideas are pouring in on me.
13. Do you use symbolism when writing fics? Tell us about it.
I've been experimenting with my writing style lately. I just started to use symbolism in the title, and it's a bit of a giveaway. I'm not a deep person, but my characters are. LOL.
14. Tell us about a detail you wrote that nobody has commented on yet.
Now that I've gone through all the chapters again, I was quite surprised that nobody has commented on how bad my first chapter is. I was honestly considering rewriting or deleting the whole chapter.
16. Share a wip you're excited about.
This is a chapter from Hiding in Plain Sight that I wrote a month ago. It contains a glimpse of what they've become after four years, months after their relationship ended.
He held her hand, glancing at the diamond on her finger. "So you are engaged now." He examined every angle of the stone, gleaming rainbow lights reflecting in his eyes. "With Hoover?" "Armin." He swallowed, his voice breaking, "What does he have that I don't?" Annie noticed his eyes were dark and puffy from up close, as if the storm in his eyes had calmed down and left a wasteland. "Armin, you're too drunk." He gently placed her hand on his face as he closed his eyes. His hands, his face, he's as cold as if she had touched a glass frozen in winter. "I dreamed of you being beside me." "I was, Armin. We were happy. But you ended us." Annie felt warm liquid threatening to leak from the corners of her eyes. "Annie, it took me four damn years to make up my mind. It only took four damn minutes to shatter it all to pieces. And it only took you four damn months to wear someone's ring." This was the first time she had heard him curse, and it broke her. "Armin, please. I told you I wasn't ready when you..." Annie couldn't finish what she wanted to say as tears rolled down her face. "...when I was on my knees and asked you?" He continued, opening his eyes to see her face dampened with tears

A new beginning
Chapter 13
<-previously : next->
During the sleepover, Falco had confined them to what happened after they both left. The fight they had, the confession, and how he ended their relationship all together Eren hit the back of his head at that and told him he shouldn't have done that for him.
Falco knew he loved Gabi and didn't think he could move on yet. As a broken heart needs time to heal, he couldn't just watch her as she insulted his friend and do nothing. He was glad they spent the night at Eren's, as he didn't want to be questioned by his brother on why he looked so gloomy and sad. It already hurt enough; he didn't need the constant reminder.
Eren and Annie offered him comfort. They helped him get Gabi off his mind. They shared secrets and gossiped like the girls in their class about everything and anything. They ended up staying up most of the night until Zeke came in and ordered them to go to bed. When he left, all three of them erupted into giggles. He was really grateful for having friends like them. It was really a night he would never forget for years to come. He enjoyed it and hoped they got to do another sleepover sometime soon, but this time with planning.
At school, they both avoided each other like the plague. Eren had told him several times over the past few weeks to go over her desk and apologise, but he knew how to be stubborn. Being friends with stubborn people taught him how to be one. Even Zofia and Udo had come up to him and asked him about what happened between the two, but he shrugged them off with a nothing. He won't tell them if Gabi hadn't.
Weeks have passed, and they still haven't spoken a word to each other. Falco found himself enjoying the peace he got while also not having to worry about Eren and Gabi fighting each other every other day like they used to. Even during self-defence classes, they never spar against each other anymore. They avoided each other to the point that even his brother pointed out that Gabi hadn't been visiting or coming over at all when he brought Eren and Annie over sometimes.
Since then, he has avoided even talking about her with anyone other than Eren or Annie. They are currently having their lunch, and Annie was telling them about the fight she had with her father, to the point where he won't be able to walk without a crutch to help him. Eren told her that this man had it coming with the way he treats her, and Falco couldn't help but watch them as they conversed. He wasn't in the mood to talk, but hearing his friends talk was enough to get things off his mind.
The school day ended in a blur. Falco was going to walk home with Eren today as his brother wouldn't be able to walk with him, which was alright as he would only end up asking about Gabi. He greeted Mrs. Yeager along with Armin and Mikasa and was going to walk beside Eren and Annie ahead.
"Falco!" A yell that made him freeze in his spot. Eren and Annie faced him with a smirk on their lips, and he never wanted to punch them more than now.
"Yes?" He said it politely. It was the best course of action right now. To be polite and show distance in their conversations.
"I'm sorry!" She yelled the apology while bowing. He was taken back by the next words. "You were right; I shouldn't have insulted Eren and called him a devil."
He could hear from behind him Armin and Mrs. Yeager stopping Mikasa from coming here and pouncing on Gabi. He was glad they did so, as he wanted to know where the conversation was going. Maybe distance has helped her see her mistake.
"You too are special to me. I don't know if it's love, but what I do know for sure is that I can't pass another day with you mad at me."
"But Gabi, I'm not the one you should be apologising for."
He could hear Eren groan from beside him and Annie sigh with exasperation. He smiled at his friends antiques.
"Eren! I would also like to apologise to you. You made me realise my mistake and how I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover! And therefore, I apologise for the words I've said that night; they were inappropriate and not necessary. "
She bowed once more, but this time to Eren. Falco snickered when the brunette froze when she bowed to him, and he could see the wheels turning in his head. It was a sight Falco would never forget and would tease the brunette about it for years to come.
Eren forgave her, but not before giving her an earful. He kept telling us to be nice to others, no matter their race, gender, or origin. At the end of the day, they were all humans who wanted to live their lives to the fullest.
Even after everything, he and Gabi hadn't sat down and had a talk. There was still distance between the two of them. Falco doesn't know why, but he feels this type of awkwardness around her every time they sit together.
Eren has told him several times to just talk it out with her and get over it because it's painful for him and Annie to watch, but he would like to keep Gabi at arm's length. So he could keep her on her toes, and she could lose him at any second if he was provoked.
He doesn't care what Gabi might think or feel at the moment. He learned that he needed to grow a backbone after what happened. Because if he and Gabi ever became friends like before or even more than friends, she would need to know that she couldn't insult his friends and family.

Jean Kirschtein x reader | Friends, or is it more?
the more i watch aot, the more i love jean... his moments of self-doubt and his moved smile truly are heart-wrenching 🥺
fandom: Attack on Titan pairing: Jean Kirschtein x reader summary: Where you realise that you’re falling for your best friend, whose heart is already taken—or so you thought. Fortunately, what becomes a saddening party can also turn into an unexpected occasion to make things right. word count: 3.3k
Sometimes, belonging to the Scouts regiment came with something that, from up close, resembled a flicker of momentary joy. You had, of course, been aware of the harrowing shadow of a reputation that trudged behind the wings of liberty: danger, death and despair; the three Ds accompanying your pledge to humanity drummed their deafening beat alongside your horse's frenzied gallop whenever you took place in the formation that led you outside the walls, the wind hurling through your hair and your senses at the height of their tension, ready to signal the approach of a titan at any given minute, bracing your body for every possible threat. You had faith in commander Erwin, had faith in your comrades—if giving your life was necessary for your cause, then, you had silently promised yourself and your people, you would give it with eyes wide open and undefeated fierceness, be it in the heat of battle or any other way. The wings embroidered upon your cape represented your beliefs more intensely than any word—as long as there was a Scout left, hope would live still; blossom upon the tall grass that freely grew upon the tombs of your fallen comrades. Even the smallest victory made you believe that a change could be made—and even the smallest victory was celebrated in the battalion as a sign that bode well for the foreseeable future. It was such celebrations, though as small as the victories they marked, that made room for moments of joy the regiment could barely encounter at other times. And when those moments came, life suddenly appeared coated with a hundred colours, full of humorous idiocies and heedless amusement that stirred up in you all the youthful glee of not caring about a thing in the world but the people around you and the drink in your hand.
"You guys won't believe the position we found Bertholdt in this morning!"
Seated beside Armin, who himself flanked Eren as Mikasa had naturally settled on the other side of their childhood friend, you leaned further on the wooden table of the barrack in order to hear your brunet friend more distinctly, his excited voice reviving the conversation at once. Drawn by a cheerful and carefree sort of curiosity, which was well fueled by the general bright mood, finding out about Bertholdt's daily sleeping position suddenly appeared like the most fascinating event one could discuss, especially when followed by the boys' weather previsions based on their comrade's often strange and tangled up poses. You exchanged an amused look with Mikasa, and though your friend's features remained almost as impassive as usual, the vivid twinkle you caught through the dark shine of her eyes mirrored your cheery behaviour; Armin's face, on the other hand, wore an expressive smile, the blond boy remembering vividly the description of Bertholdt that Eren began recounting.
But even as you laughed at the image of Bertholdt's knees somehow managing to stay bent as he slept on his stomach, the upper part of his legs outstretched toward the sky in an unusual—to say the least—position, your gaze went on sweeping the room, in search of the one person you couldn't wait to chat with again, though you also got along really well with Armin, Mikasa and Eren. The only problem was, said person was not that fond of the self-righteous brunet ball of energy sat at your table, so you were not surprised to find him in Conny and Sasha's company instead, talking animatedly. You had already had the opportunity to chat with Jean earlier that evening, the two of you having grown so close to each other that it would've been impossible for you not to cross paths tonight, but you wondered whether you would drift toward each other again before the makeshift party came to an end; Captain Levi had been surprisingly unbothered by your shy request to celebrate today's mission's success, accepting it on the sole condition that only soft drinks were to be consumed—Armin suspected that Commander Erwin was responsible for granting the new recruits' wishes, as they had after all already endured quite a lot during the expedition to retrieve Eren from Annie.
"We better watch out for that sleeping position of Bertholdt's, maybe it means good luck," Armin observed lightheartedly, taking a sip from his drink.
"You should keep a notebook with all of them, and maybe you'll crack the code someday," you added with a chuckle, the three of you glancing at Bertholdt.
Having your 104th comrades with you in the Scouts regiment really did bring you a lot of comfort to help you navigate these new uncharted waters, though it also made it acutely unbearable to imagine that some of them might not make it back next time; Marco served as your first and most painful lesson that even those dearest to you were never safe. It was after the freckled boy's death that you and Jean had truly bonded, brought together by the devastating loss of your kindhearted friend. You had become each other's rocks since then—checking up on each other after training sessions and expeditions, playful teasing and calling each other all sorts of funny nicknames rooted into the core of your friendship, giving it all its strength. And it was when you had been injured during the 57th expedition and Jean had almost hysterically ran up to you afterwards, cursing with no restraint and holding your arm so tightly it hurt when he helped you limp toward the medical wing, that you had been hit for the first time, though still shaken from slaying a titan and the bloody cut burning your leg, by how grateful you were to have made it out alive, to have Jean by your side. It was then that you had realised that there was no one else you would rather be with than him—it was something more than anything you've ever felt before, as your timidly pounding heart had been reminding you ever since.
But another thing unavoidable when being friends with Jean, of course, was the bickering between your comrade and Eren—and this evening was no different from any other week. A few minutes later, as you engaged in a pleasant conversation with Armin, your attention was drawn by the thunderous eruption of voices that suddenly shook the walls of the barrack, making many pairs of surprised eyes turn toward the belligerent protagonists of the argument. It just had to be Eren and Jean, hadn't it? Like the rest of your comrades, you couldn't possibly guess where the spark that ignited this new inferno came from, but with these two, a valid reason often wasn't needed; to the greatest despair of the 104th, both boys possessed magic powers to summon reasons to fight out of thin air. At the present moment, both Eren and Jean were actively yelling at each other, shooting names and accusations back and forth.
However, the lack of rational incidents to cause such a scene didn't mean that there was no deeper reason for Jean's outbursts, just like Eren's counter-attacks originated from his legendary stubbornness already well-known to his fellow comrades. You had been suspecting for a long time that Jean mainly proclaimed his hatred towards Eren because of Mikasa. Before the 57th expedition, when both of you were in a playful and mischievous mood, you would even friendlily tease Jean about his soft spot for the dark haired young woman, which he hadn't hidden very well ever since Mikasa and he met for the first time. It was quite unfortunately, really, that your heart had finally chosen Jean, of all people, to fall for—as if you weren't well aware of how much he admired and liked Mikasa! And this mascarade surely had to have been orchestrated to get her attention, just like many other failed schemes of Jean's, as Mikasa barely seemed interested in anyone but Eren, Armin, sometimes Sasha, and you.
"There he goes again..." You muttered downheartedly, sparing a glance at your best friend.
"It's Eren and Jean, after all..." Armin responded with a sorry smile, squirming on the bench to get further away from Eren, who was now up on his feet and facing Jean with balled up fists. Mikasa watched the two boys through squinted eyes, at the ready to jump and knock over Jean if needed—at least, your friend's plan to get her attention had succeeded.
"I know how this is going to end," you told Armin under your breath, averting your gaze from the fighters. "You know what, I think it's right about time for me to head off. I don't want to witness Captain Levi tearing their heads off for wrecking havoc in here."
"Really? Don't you want to stay a little longer? I'm sure it won't come to this!"
"I don't even want to know. Goodnight, Armin, thank you for the nice chat," you excused yourself, fleeing from the barrack swift as a cat, only the passage of a furtive ray of light on the floor signifying that the door to the room had been opened as quickly as it was closed.
You knew better than to cling onto something you could not reach, so why endure the spectacle of such a foolish play?
*
Outside, nighttime had descended upon the camp with its soothing quietness. Nothing in sight but the warm flutter of torches fixed upon the barracks; nothing ringing in your ears but the chirping melody of a cricket's song, its echo delicately carried away by the evening wind. No ecstatic shouting, no blaring laughter. Nothing but a lone constellation half-veiled by the grey trail of clouds that unhurriedly floated upon the dark depths of the sky. No Jean, no Eren. You took a lungful of fresh air before a long sigh lifted off your chest—if only things could go back to the way they had been. Back when Jean was nothing but a fun and (sweetly) annoying horse-faced boy to be around, and no cause for heartache.
You took some more steps ahead, the muffled sounds you could still hear from inside dying out as you walked further away. Although you had told Armin that your time to go had come, you didn't feel like getting back to bed right now; actually, you didn't feel like anything but escaping for a little while.
At last, you decided to retrace your steps, taking a seat on the ground beside the barrack you had abandoned, your back pressed against its wooden surface. On the other side, the cacophony hadn't ceased, only muffled by the wall that separated you from the inside mayhem. Had Jean and Eren opted for a fistfight denouement by now? Would Mikasa intervene?
But before you had enough time to explore the many scenarios your imagination could sketch out, the door beside which you had settled opened abruptly, a wide stream of light flooding the ground at once. In the blink of an eye, a visibly disconcerted figure appeared on the threshold, freezing as they took a look around before rapidly bifurcating to the side in order to follow one of the torchlit paths...
"Jean?"
"Y/n?! What are you doing here?" Jean rushed toward you as soon as he noticed your silhouette from behind the shadows, discovering your hiding-place. "I didn't even see you leave..."
"I'm sorry, I was starting to feel tired." Touched by the fact that Jean had left the room to look for you, you attempted to give him a plausible excuse.
"C'mon, you can get through a day of training, but you can't get through one of the only party nights we're lucky enough to have?" Jean taunted, taking a seat next to you. "What's the matter?" he gently elbowed you, throwing his neck back so he could press his head against the wall behind. "Just when I was about to defeat Eren..."
"Defeat Eren, really? Statistically, it's more likely for Captain Levi to smile than for us to see that happen," you laughed tiredly, trying not to think about how Jean would probably soon get back to Mikasa and the others.
"Yeah, yeah, tease me all you want, it'll happen. Someday this idiot will get his ass handed to him."
Closing your eyes, you only had it in you to maintain the forced smile painted over your lips while fighting back the rush of stinging tears that suddenly overwhelmed you. Why did Jean had to come and check up on you now of all times, right when you were more than ever convinced that you were starting to fall for him, and it couldn't be clearer that his every move longed for someone else?
"You know, I was going to get him, but Mikasa can get scary..." It was as if he could decipher the riddles of your mind, unaware of the way your heart convulsed. "I wouldn't want to cross her. Why would she hang out with this idi—"
"Look, Jean, if you've come here to rant about this, then you can leave," you ended up snapping, biting back more acre words . "I'm tired, okay? Just get back to the fun inside."
"You... You don't feel like talking?" Jean's voice softened from incomprehension, trying to read your tone. "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was that bad. Hey, you really don't want to talk?"
You shook your head in response, scolding your own self for such pathetic behaviour. Jean couldn't possibly know about your suppressed feelings, so your attitude must indeed appear more than confusing, especially since you were so used to confiding in each other and cheering each other up, for the past weeks more than ever. In the wake of Icarus's ascend towards the sun, untethered and naive, your wings of wax were melting... But who could've predicted, as much as a month earlier, that the loveable idiot by your side would doom you to downfall?
"Okay... Well...," the young man ran a distracted hand through his hair, frowning as his jaw clenched. "Then I'll talk. You know, I had an idea for tonight," he began after collecting his thoughts, breaking through the hesitant seconds that had temporarily numbed his tongue. "It was our first successful expedition after that near-death experience after all, so I thought I'd better make the most of it and make tonight's celebration useful. Who knows when we'll get another one. Maybe you're right and it's actually more likely to see Captain Levi smile than to get another one of these again soon." Jean's speech ran freely now, his torrent of sentences—for the moment still not making clear sense as to where they were headed to—submerging you in the familiar flow of his voice. As of late, your greatest fear had become to miss its distress call in the ranging mist of a battle, to watch Jean's body be torn to shreds as you could only scream until everything else vanished... "So I thought I'd be brave, for once." He took a deep breath in, fingers nervously wrapped around the back of his own neck. "There's this person I like."
There it was. Somehow, you knew that it would be coming—after the stunt he pulled earlier with Eren...
"They're much braver than I am, but they probably know that already," Jean went on, chuckling self-depreciatingly—he knew he could poke at himself in your company without being ashamed of disclosing his flaws. "They wouldn't hesitate to come and rescue me, even if I were grabbed by a titan. And they're really beautiful, too—"
"Look, Jean, if you've come to talk about Mikasa, just save it," you could only murmur. "Pl—"
"And, quite surprisingly, they're also a dumbass!" Jean didn't let you finish either, shifting his head so he could see your face better. "But that's something both of us have in common." Taken aback by such a strange confession, you opened your eyes to take an intrigued look at Jean while hoping that he wouldn't notice the tears you had at last blinked away. You met his gaze head-on, even among the shadows that coiled over his face.  "Because they think that I still have a thing for a girl I liked for two weeks, while I've been talking about them all along."
"What—"
"You know, you're the one who makes being called "horse-face" the funniest," Jean cracked an unsure smile at you, fiddling with his hands. "Alright, it's the bravest I'll ever be, so time to crawl in a hole and die now," he immediately added more anxiously, looking like the unexpected nature of his confession had stricken him for the first time.
"Wait, Jean, no!" It was as if, for the first time in a span of unending minutes, you could breathe again. "Wait, is this... Is this for real?" You asked in what came out almost a whisper, fearing, in this instant where your hopes balanced on the edge of a precipice of churning doubt and elation, that this was a joke you would not be able to forgive. Jean was better than this, but what if?—the thought drilled into your heart.
"Well... Yes. I'm sorry if I've made things awkward, it's Armin who told you might like me too and—"
"Hey, hey," your hand found its way to Jean's arm in a comforting touch, preventing him from leaving as he made a move to flee after blurting out an apology. Judging by your frantic heartbeat, there was no way you could be the calmer person in this situation—and yet, Jean somehow managed to look even more distressed than you at the moment. "I do like you." It was your turn to get embarrassed, which your flushed cheeks openly betrayed, illuminated by the nearby torch's flitting flame. "But Mikasa...?"
"Y/n, I haven't liked Mikasa for longer than a few weeks. I mean, yes, she's beautiful and strong, but so are you. And you're so much more than that. You're so fun to be around, I haven't laughed so hard with anyone but you. Unlike me, you're not scared to be brave and kind, but with you, I don't need to think which face I need to put on, because I know we don't have to pretend to be someone we're not when we're around each other. And when you got injured... I couldn't stand the thought of losing you. I made myself a promise then that I would tell you, and tonight seemed like the right time. I've been talking to Armin after the expedition and I think he kind of guessed that I liked you, and that you liked me too—I don't even know how or why, but he told me he thought you did. That's not exactly how I thought it'd go but... Trying to get your attention by getting in a fight with Eren wasn't that good of a plan, I guess."
"So that's what it was...! You really are an idiot, Jean Kirschtein," you declared vivaciously, but the moved smile that brightened your face spoke louder than the fond insults Jean and you would fire at each other. "We need to watch out for Armin, he will uncover everyone's secrets, at this rate..." You joked before regaining a more serious attitude, your emotions truly swayed by your friend's avowal. "The expedition changed everything for me too. I realised that I didn't want to go without you. No, I realised that I didn't want to go at all—I wanted to stay. With you."
"Pff, get in line," Jean grinned in spite of the emotional look on his face, sighing in relief. "I've been liking you for months."
"Seriously?"
"Absolutely. Do you think I go out of my way to check up on everyone after a battle or that everyone's mom gets the privilege of being the centre of my skilfully crafted jokes?"
"Shut up," you laughed wholeheartedly, your shoulder against Jean's. "Your mom's a hoe."
"Very clever," he teased you in return, face glowing from a joy even more vivd than the fiery sparks that chased the night's spectres away. “I bang yours every night.”
You burst out laughing, rolling your eyes—mom jokes were a must in your goofy friendship. A friendship that, with a bit of unpredicted luck, was on the verge of becoming something more.

Annie in jail and Mikasa (a lawyer maybe) getting her out of there.
Ps. I love your stories
Bailed Out - Read on AO3
Though she was expecting it, Annie was still surprised when an office opened the door to her cell and gave her a stiff nod to leave. She let her teeth grind together and followed the pig out and into a room where a smartly dressed woman stood waiting.
She was stunning, if Annie was really in the mood to notice. Her limbs felt heavy and her blood was surging with anger. Her face hurt, throbbing at certain areas, stinging at others. Blood had dried and crusted along her chin and throat, and she was sure her shirt looked like she had murdered someone.
The waiting woman did not seem to care, or even be concerned, when Annie stopped before her. The officer gave them one last stony glance before storming off.
"Someone pissed in his pig feed," Annie retorted.
The woman stared at her. This close, Annie noted her grey eyes. Her black hair was cut to her jaw in a stylish bob, and her suit looked specially tailored to her toned body. Even though she wasn't exceptionally tall, with Annie's injured face and tattered closed, she felt as though the woman towered over her. It made her feel small. Angry. A little turned on.
"Ackerman," the woman finally spoke, bypassing formal greetings completely. "Mikasa Ackerman."
"Annie," Annie said simply.
"I know."
"I'm sure daddy Leonhardt paid you a hefty sum to bail my ass out. Again."
Mikasa's lips pressed together, like she wanted to say something but was holding back. That was more irritating than anything, but there was something in her eyes that help Annie back from retorting.
She never kept a lawyer for long, since they only tolerated her foul moods for a few weeks before ultimately quitting.
"From today on, Miss Leonhardt, you will be in my custody. Your father has paid for more than just my legal services."
Annie's brows raised, but Mikasa's stern face and stiff posture made it clear that she wasn't being hire for those type of services.
"So you're not just my lawyer now, but what?"
At that, Mikasa gave her a smile. It was a horrible smile, one that a predator gave to its prey right before baring its fangs. "Your jailer," she said cheerfully, her tone clashing entirely with the stiff nature of everything else.
Annie laughed. Mikasa's face remained neutral, unmoving. Annie stopped laughing.
"No the fuck you're not."
Mikasa handed over some legal papers, and Annie began reading. Her heart was thudding hard, anger and helplessness. Disgust at herself, for letting her tempers get so out of hand that she landed in jail again and again for starting petty bar fights. For dragging her family name through the mud, though they deserved it.
"Yes the fuck you are," Mikasa finally told her.
Annie was so bewildered by Mikasa's words that she didn't object to being pulled from the station to the awaiting vehicle. As outrageous as this situation seemed, Annie couldn't bring herself to be completely mortified. When Mikasa started driving, Annie stared at her.
"Say that again."
"What?"
"Fuck. Say it again."
Mikasa shot her a curt look, then returned her attention to the road. She did not hesitate when she replied.
"No."
She didn't ask Annie why she'd requested that, and she just kept driving. Annie was too tired and sore to care about anything at that point, so she sank down in the seat and let her eyes flutter shut. When sleep took her, she dreamed of that pretty mouth saying other foul things, and Mikasa gave her perturbed looks as she mumbled through her sleep.
"Daddy Mikasa," Annie groaned, still dead asleep.
When she was woken, Annie had no clue why Mikasa suddenly seemed so flustered. But then they left the car, and Annie followed close behind, and she decided to stop caring.

interim (i)
zeke x reader/oc (warning: slow burn with some plot)
summary: You return to Liberio not long after the Warriors arrive home from their failed mission in Paradis and discover that things have changed. (Or they will, and maybe a little more with Zeke than you expect.) [Season 4 and manga spoilers ahead]
AO3 link | Ch 2
Hi everyone! This is part of the series I mentioned on my oneshot Asset, but it's a prequel. I'd love to continue the season 4 stuff, but I want to see how the manga ends first so I can plot out Reader's part in it all. (Also edit post-139, I've completely fallen in love with Zeke who deserves so much better and while I always intended to take my time with the Asset prequels, I'm in no rush to get to the Asset sequel. I do want to update as regularly as possible though, rl willing!)
The Reader/OC will be a cis-female Eldian character with a set background, as you'll find at the end of this chapter. Reader’s default name is Lucy, just because I personally don’t like writing ‘Y/N,’ but please feel free to set the substitution for Lucy to you or your character’s First Name using the InteractiveFics browser extension! So on the browser extension that would be: Lucy = Your or your character's First Name. Because reader will have a set background, you'll have a set surname as well.
I will say that Zeke may seem a little OOC/angsty in the beginning of this story, if only because Reader and Zeke were good friends before he became the shitstain we know and love today and Reader is fairly familiar with his true moods even when he is being annoying as hell. (And Zeke is annoying. I swear I do like this guy hahah...)
I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1
It’s strange how easily you fall into step with the soldier ahead of you.
You don’t march, and your eyes wander stern walls and imposing doors that have long left your dreams, but your footfalls follow only one beat that echoes throughout the hallway as he leads you through it. There’s an almost comforting order to the sound that belies the way your heart tries to hammer its way through your ears or right out of your chest.
It feels like forever and far too soon when you arrive at a familiar waiting room. Motioning to the chairs around a small round table, the soldier knocks twice on the door opposite where you entered. When no one responds, he simply stands there, and you have no recourse but to take that seat.
Voices filter in, muffled, from the other room, and you slip your hands under the desk to squeeze your fingers together. Maybe this was a terrible idea after all. You can still leave, pursue your medical degree back home…
“No,” you whisper to yourself, even if you do abruptly stand from your chair. You just need a moment to freshen up. Facing the soldier, you begin, “I would like to—”
Alarm replaces the question in his gaze when two heavy knocks cut through your words. He stares at you a little longer, a new question, and you reply with a deep exhale.
“Never mind.”
He nods. “They’re ready for you.”
You enter the conference room, which is far too large for the four people sitting at one end of the long table there: an older man with more lapel pins and crow’s feet than you remember, and three others closer to your age—the esteemed Warrior Unit and their commander, Theo Magath.
Six long years later, they all look different enough that under other circumstances, you might hesitate to recognize them. But you know this place all too well, the lighting and their seating arrangement so familiar that you can mistake them for no other than Zeke Yeager, Pieck Finger, and Porco Galliard.
It soon appears from their expressionless gazes that they can’t say the same for you. Not that you can blame them—they had no reason to expect your arrival, and it’s Commander Magath who huffs at their frigid reception. “Is that how you Eldians treat old friends?”
The three glance at one another. You venture a small smile, and the recognition and surprise that sink into Zeke’s features make Magath snort as Pieck leaps from her chair, shattering the chill in the room as surely as she crashes into you with an embrace.
“Lucy!”
The joy in her voice sweeps aside your initial fears and brings your excitement bubbling out of your throat in your own laughter. “Pieck!”
She’s talking before you even part and still holding onto the back of your blouse when you do. “You look so… old,” she grins. “That is—me-old.”
Her languid excitement makes it difficult for you to keep your composure. “I am you-old,” you say, trying not to giggle, but your toothy smile already reaches from ear to ear.
Before you can say more, Commander Magath clears his throat. “If you two are finished…”
Both of you freeze instinctively at his tone. Stealing another squeeze, Pieck steps aside as Magath rises from his chair. “Good of you to drop by, Blanchard.”
You quickly cross the distance to shake his proffered hand. “Thank you, Sir. And congratulations on your promotion.”
He shrugs, taking a seat and gesturing that you and Pieck do the same. “Still not a far cry from playing nursemaid sometimes.”
Pieck shakes her head. “Don’t say that, Sir.”
“You’re right. I’m at least a pay grade or two above nursemaid,” Magath chuckles just a little, and to his right, Zeke continues to stare at you.
“Is that really you?” he asks, mouth set in a line under his new beard.
“In the flesh.” His expression remains neutral through your nervous chuckle. Shifting in your seat, you nod away toward Porco. “It’s so nice to see everyone again. Galliard.”
Though he gave you an appreciative once-over as you entered, Porco is now as uninterested as they come. “I didn’t think you’d still know our names. Thanks for taking the time to drop by, I guess.”
“Oh, come on, Pock,” Pieck teases, ignoring the air of hostility that starts to surround you. As though Porco is only an unruly child, she says in feigned apology, “A few days with the Jaw and he’s already this cocky.”
“Ah.” You can’t bring yourself to mirror her mirth. “I heard about that. I’m sorry about Marcel. And Bertholdt—and Annie…”
Pieck glances away, and because you can’t meet Zeke’s eyes at the moment, you address the commander instead. “What about Reiner? I heard he’d returned.”
“Braun is still undergoing a debriefing.”
A debriefing, you think, when they’ve been back a fortnight already? But it dawns on you easily enough that what Reiner is undergoing is an ideology test. Reindoctrination.
“I see… but…”
“It was on my recommendation,” Zeke cuts in, daring you, a civilian, to protest. His arms are crossed now. “Otherwise he’s in danger of passing on the Armor a full six years too early.”
“I only meant to say that Reiner is the most loyal Eldian I know,” you answer levelly, eyes boring into his. Your nails dig into the cloth of your skirt on your lap as you pretend not to hear Porco’s scoff. Taking the Armor from Reiner? The operation was a massive failure, but that consequence is far too severe... however expected. “After you, of course.”
Zeke tilts his head, obscuring his gaze from your view when the light above reflects off his glasses.
“It’s a good thing, in any case,” Magath explains. “Behind enemy lines for over five years, he—”
Whatever his opinion, the commander abruptly stops himself from sharing it and clears his throat instead. You know better than to protest when an unsettling pause rests over the room—exactly what you feared would occur.
To your surprise, it’s Porco who comes to your rescue, even if his disdain is palpable. “Why are you here, anyway?”
“Well,” you begin gratefully, “I’m—”
“I asked her to come,” says Magath, completely ignoring the tension. “But my meeting prior ran overlong, and I have another coming up. Can you come in tomorrow morning? Ten sharp?”
You sit up straight when he addresses you. “Of course, Sir.”
Magath smiles—still a novelty to you—and pushes himself up out of his chair. The rest of you do the same, following him to the door as he speaks. “Go ahead and catch up in the meantime. And Blanchard—it’s good to see you again. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“The rest of you—dismissed.”
He leaves the room with the Marleyan guard at the door. The other three let out a breath of relief once it closes.
“Blanchard,” Porco enunciates, stretching his arms. “Are we really still doing that? Who are we supposed to be fooling here?”
Pieck sighs, but it’s Zeke who stays him with a light backhand to the stomach. “Settle down, Galliard.”
Porco pushes his hand away. “Seriously? Of all people, you—”
“Your first transformation was pretty brutal, Galliard,” Zeke casually announces. He winces for good measure, like he’s actually worried. “Why don’t you get some rest?”
The hostility on Porco’s face quickly shifts to embarrassment, and you feel for him. “You’ve transformed already?”
“I wanted to go check on the Warriors anyway,” he says instead, eyeing you with a curled lip. “Nice seeing you again, Blanchard.”
“You too,” you call out, but he’s already stalked out of the room.
You feel Pieck’s hand loop around your arm. “Don’t take it personally,” she says gently. “Learning about Marcel was difficult for him.”
“I can only imagine.” She gives you a small smile at your words, and you understand. Casting a more pleasant gaze around the room, you ask, “How are you two? I thought it might be nice if we could get some lunch together.” You check your watch. “...Very late lunch.”
“I would love to,” Pieck says cheerfully, leading your way out of the room— “Tomorrow. I still have so much paperwork to do.”
Zeke snickers. “The joys of working with a team.”
“Life is unfair,” Pieck declares, but smiles when her hand slips down to yours. “I’ll pick you up after your meeting with Magath tomorrow. It’s a date, right?”
You squeeze her fingers in return. “Definitely.”
Her leisurely footsteps fade down the hallway, and you soon find yourself alone with Zeke. You dust at your blouse idly, but you must eventually look at him. “I suppose it’s just you and me today, then.”
He only eyes you, scratching the side of his bearded jaw. It’s even worse than him outright declining.
“Unless,” you quickly add, detesting the dead air, “are you… training the new Warrior class?”
Zeke snorts. “No. I’ve been busy with other work, but you can check in on their progress if you’re interested. Seems like the Commander wouldn’t mind, seeing as he invited you here.”
You ignore the jab: And you accepted. “What’s kept you busy?”
“Good question.” His smile is a facetious one. “But you know that’s top secret.”
You scoff, but you were braver in front of the others. Now his indifference is too much to bear.
It’s only after you turn away that Zeke asks, “Why don’t you drop by the house? My grandparents should be happy to see you again.”
“I… actually came from there. They asked me to stay. I hope you don’t mind,” you follow, and regret the words as soon as you say it. It’s like you’re trying to piss him off. “I’ll pay for my share of everything, of course.”
He doesn’t react with anger, but you were stupid to expect him to. “Oh?” he asks instead, managing the most sarcastic one-word question in existence. His voice has gotten so much deeper in the last six years, and somehow that makes it worse. “I would have expected the distinguished Miss Blanchard to prefer better accommodations by now.”
You resist the urge to wince. “Don’t say that. The Yeager household was like home to me for several years. More than home, sometimes.”
There’s a pause where only your footsteps, still in time with one another, are all you hear as you make your way down the empty hall. The thought of Zeke’s gaze right now shames you, but it’s ahead he’s looking when he lets out a whistle. “You’re making this difficult for me,” he laughs. “How can I kick you out after such high praise?”
Your last footfall echoes as you stop, reaching for his arm. “Zeke—”
He yanks it away without even looking at you. “We should head back before the Commander decides he wants something from me after all. Come on.”
Your face burns with humiliation even though there’s no one else around to watch him walk away, his long strides too fast for you to catch up.
--
The Yeagers are pleased to have you over for dinner and beyond, and though you already dropped by before making your appearance at HQ, Mrs. Yeager does not run out of subjects to discuss with you, updating you on several of your neighbors’ lives. Who has married, who has passed away, and whose children have joined the Warrior program themselves, only to fail. Zeke doesn’t talk except to comment on something his grandparents say, or very rarely something you say so as not to arouse their suspicion. They have none. They are too busy doting on you after your long, long absence.
After dinner, when your stomachs are full and your chest is light with laughter, you stand up to collect the dishes and bring them to the sink. “Absolutely not,” Mrs. Yeager says, realizing your intention once she hears the light clatter of tableware. “You’re our guest, Lucy!”
“Please,” you call from the sink. “I miss doing this with all of you around.”
Dr. Yeager sighs in agreement with his wife. “Not on your first night. Zeke.”
Zeke is already on his feet, leaving only everyone’s glasses as he makes his way to the sink with the placemats. Dr. Yeager has brought out their good wine to celebrate your return. “I can do this myself,” he tells you, trying to wave you aside.
You don’t budge. “But I can help. We’ll get it all done more quickly.”
He levels a look at you—one you haven’t seen since you were very young, from before you were friends. “Sit with my grandmother, Lucy,” he murmurs so that only you hear. “Don’t make her crane her neck just to talk to you.”
Shame and something completely unfamiliar fill you at his reprimand, and you surrender with a nod. You make your way back to the table and squint at Mrs. Yeager. “Only tonight, though.”
Mrs. Yeager laughs, reaching for your hands across the table. You give them to her easily. “You’ve grown into such a beautiful young woman,” she says. “Your parents must be very proud of you.” You nod with some unease, and Dr. Yeager, even as he enjoys his wine, clears his throat. Mrs. Yeager realizes her mistake. “Ah—I...I’m sorry, dear. I know they passed away several years ago. But I’m sure they would be proud of you now.”
“That’s all right,” you reassure her. “I hope it’s not too bold to say, but… you and Dr. Yeager were mother and father to me for a time as well, when they couldn’t be. I will always be grateful for that.”
“Oh, Lucy,” Mrs. Yeager smiles, her eyes quickly shining, “That isn’t bold at all. We felt the same way. We only wish you had written more!”
A scoff makes its way from the kitchen. “Grandma,” Zeke reminds her lightly, even as he scrubs the plates with renewed vigor, “you know Lucy has been busy.”
“I know that, dear, I wasn’t trying to—”
“No, it is my fault,” you agree. “I promise I’ll be better about that the next time I go.”
“Next time?” asks Dr. Yeager, suddenly sitting up straight. “Where are you going?”
You blink, turning your attention to him, and attempt to wave the confusion away with your hands. “No, no, Dr. Yeager, I’ll be staying here for a while. I only meant that for the next time I leave Lib—”
“Next time?” Dr. Yeager repeats, his hand knocking over his wine glass as he eyes your left sleeve with intent. It trembles as he grasps at his scalp. “If you’re leaving, why aren’t you wearing your armband?”
The faucet shuts off, leaving only the sound of alcohol dripping from the dinner table to the floor, and Mrs. Yeager turns to him nervously. “Dear—”
“Don’t leave without your armband again, Faye,” he pleads, looking straight at you. He rises from his seat, voice more and more frantic as he swipes at a nearby cabinet with nothing to show for it. “Where is it? Where did you put it?”
Zeke is already wiping his hands on the hem of his shirt, and Mrs. Yeager goes to take her husband’s arm. “Darling, no, this is Lucy, remember?”
But Dr. Yeager is already heaving. It’s not long before tears are streaming down his face and he cries, “Why would you do this to me again? Why did he let you remove your armband, Faye?!”
“Dr. Yeager—I’m Lucy. Lucy,” you insist, hurrying over and tucking your hair behind your ears to show him your face, smiling as you’ve done many times in an attempt to calm him. You hold his arms, trying to jog him back to reality, but by now he is screaming and weeping, digging his fingers into your arms and repeatedly calling out his daughter’s name.
“...Come on, grandpa.” Zeke pries Dr. Yeager’s hands from your sleeve with his grandmother’s help. Stunned by his sudden lapse, you can only watch—able to follow only when they are already struggling with him by the stairs.
“Zeke—”
“Stay there,” he hisses with rancor that freezes you in place. Mrs. Yeager apologizes, but of course you shake your head and return to the dining room. Your hands shake as you clean the spilled alcohol from the dinner table and the floor, going over what you could have said to set off Dr. Yeager.
This is hardly the first time you’ve seen him like this, but it used to take only very specific words to remind him of that event, and so much easier to bring him back from those memories. The memory of his weeping face seizes at your heart, tempting you to launch yourself upstairs and ask after him, but Zeke is right. You’ll only make things worse.
You’re getting started on the dishes again when you hear heavy footsteps plod down the stairs.
Zeke. You cuff the faucet off, mouth already open when he smiles, reaching over to graze your exposed ear with his thumb and his index finger. “Did growing up damage your ears? I said I’d take care of the dishes.”
The unexpected contact sends a strange rush through you, but it’s the insult you focus on ignoring. Even if you do untuck your hair. “I’m sorry about Dr. Yeager.”
“It’s not your fault,” he shrugs. “It happens more often nowadays.”
“I didn’t know it had gotten so bad.”
“How could you? You’ve been away.”
You gnaw on your cheek at that. “I’m sorry, Zeke.”
For a moment, you finally see it—the recognition of the words you’ve been trying to say since you met earlier that afternoon, and the reason why. An eddy of hurt and confusion reflects in his eyes, pulling at the air around you. You want to rise above it, or else drown, or just beg for his forgiveness, but he knows you, or knew you as much as you knew him, and he cuts you off before you can speak.
“You really have grown up.” His droll chuckle makes your heart sink into your stomach. “You never used to apologize for anything.”
You make a face. “That’s not true.”
“Maybe. You were pretty damn insolent when you wanted to be.”
“I guess I could be,” you murmur. Your eyes lift to his, on a tightrope’s edge. “Remember when Marras overheard me complaining about firearm maintenance?”
Zeke snorts. “Magath had you cleaning Warrior arsenal for a week.”
You can’t help but laugh. “That was awful. Only Marcel snuck out to help me at night, and that was to impress Pieck. Thank you for that, by the way.”
“You’re welcome.”
You squint at him. Zeke grins, warmly now, and hope almost finds you—but your words catch up with you first, and both of you remember when you really are.
“Marcel,” you can’t help but say with regret.
“Yeah.” Coursing a hand through his hair, Zeke brushes past you to the sink. “Anyway, I’ll take care of this. You go to bed. You have a meeting with Magath tomorrow—that’s why you came back, right?”
“No, not just—”
The sudden burst of running water from the faucet and the wall of his back means the conversation is over. Again. Clenching your fist, you bite your tongue and slowly breathe out your growing frustration.
“Good night, then, Zeke.”
You’ve already gone up the stairs when Zeke swallows the lump in his throat, staring at the spoon splashing water upon his palm. He’s been washing it for the last two minutes.
“Night, Lucy.”
--
Zeke has already left for HQ by the time you come downstairs the next morning. Dr. Yeager is still in bed, exhausted as he gets whenever he remembers his children, but Mrs. Yeager has prepared breakfast. Try as you might, you cannot resist sitting with her and sharing a meal together. You make it to the Liberio military headquarters just in time to hear the new Warrior instructor barking out to the children jogging around the courtyard.
You wander a little closer, unable to help your curiosity—but a nearby guard spots you and quickly corrals you away, back to the offices. “They’re expecting you,” he says, looking you over as he hands you back your permit. “Don’t know what top brass wants with a civilian, much less an Eldian, but...”
“Top brass?”
The soldier almost sneers at you. As if you don’t know, Eldian, it says, and you’re starting to think you actually don’t.
He’s led you not to the same conference room as yesterday afternoon, but to an office that you distinctly remember as off-limits. When the soldiers standing guard let you inside, you understand why.
Top brass is right. More than Commander Magath, there are a number of higher-ups waiting for you inside - some faces you’ve glimpsed since you were a child, and others you have seen as recently as months ago. One in particular stands out—an intelligence officer who reports directly to your brother. Three are generals at some of the highest levels in the army.
“Blanchard,” Magath calls out. You nearly stiffen at his voice again, but relax in time, to the chuckles of the men in the room. The commander ignores them, staring straight at you. You detect the slightest hint of an apology in his hardened gaze, or maybe that’s wishful thinking to keep your growing displeasure in check. “Glad you could make it.”
“Sir, I—”
A nearby general cuts you off. List. “You can dispense with that, Magath,” he says. “We’re all in the know here.”
“Yes, Sir.”
General List turns toward you.
“Thank you for coming, Miss Tybur,” he says. There is no smile in his harsh features, but he is not unkind. Careful, maybe. “Please, sit. We have a proposition for you.”
--
So... yes! I admit, part of the reason I wanted to write something in the AoT/SnK series is because I loved and hated the addition of the Tyburs. So I wanted to write a little more about the family but also since I'm thirsty, write a Zeke fic and eventually a Levi one (whether AU or not). Obviously we'll eventually go into why the Tyburs would send one of their own into the Warrior program, among other things, but bear with me for now.
Also disclaimer: This is a Zeke/Reader story set in the AOT world, so it’s a romance with a guy who gleefully murdered a shit ton of innocent people and helped Marley level countries. Please don’t look to this story for a completely morally upright character/reader/OC who makes all the right choices. (Though expect that Reader will take them into consideration.)
Last thing! This is a slowburn with some plot, so while you can definitely expect romance (and smut) down the line, and while this fic does go heavily into Lucy's/Reader's relationship with Zeke, it also features interactions with other characters. I just wanted to give fair warning if you expect it to focus only on Zeke.
Thank you for reading!

Our work together def made an impact on me & You and your Mom felt like family back home. Today and everyday we will remember you and continue to be inspired to live and be great for you. Rest In Peace Jah. – CHRISTINA MILLIAN Honestly been at a loss for words since I heard the news. This doesn’t feel real. Jahmil, was one of the most talented actors I’ve ever worked with. One of the funniest kindest people I ever met. The life of the party, every room he would walk into he would always be dancing and making people laugh and smile. Too many good memories. Thank you Jahmil. Rest In Peace King. – AJ SAUDIN Heartbroken over the loss of our friend Jahmil French. We started on Degrassi the same year and I’ll never forget the day I met him. Jahmil was so full of energy and absolute joy to be around. The video on the last slide is how I always think of him, always dancing. He was such a special person and I’m so grateful for the memories we made. I still can’t believe it. Gone way too soon. He will be so missed by us all. – ANNIE CLARK My heart is so heavy.. Truly one of a kind. Rest In Peace. – CRISTINE PROSPERI I’m sick with the news of Jahmil’s passing. He performed Dave with such sensitivity and thoughtfulness and could make me laugh so easily. It was a pleasure to work with him and he will be missed. This is a real loss. Rest In Peace. – STEFAN BROGREN Jahmil had such talent and charisma that it would have been intimidating were he not also a real gentleman. He would show up to my house-parties with a crew of dancers and they would elevate the mood immediately. When life got messy he would handle himself with grace and levity. He was precocious. And his love for music (and dance) was contagious. He showed me Section 80 by Kendrick Lamar, made me appreciate Drake’s Houston sound… Wish I’d gotten the chance to catch up with him one more time, hear where his mind/dreams were at. – SAM EARLE Jahmil, your talents and energy will never be forgotten. One of the best smiles with the most beautiful soul. Jahmil, you will always be such a bright light in this world. – SARAH FISHER This one really hurts. Jahmil French was a truly kind soul and one of the most talented actors around. He inspired me with his confidence and support from the first day we met and will continue to do so forever. Thank you for everything you gave to this world through both your art and your humanity. Rest In Peace my friend. – CRAIG ARNOLD Much love to the entire Degrassi family on this difficult day. It was a complete honour to write for and work with Jahmil, an incredible actor and talent gone way too soon. – RAMONA BARCKERT An extraordinary talent and a bright light on and off screen. Rest in peace, Jahmil. – MICHAEL GRASSI So sad to hear about the passing of Degrassi cast-member Jahmil French. An endlessly talented & charming performer who was always fun to write for. Last time I saw him, he was nominated for a CSA for his work in the movie Boost and I was certain he was only getting started. RIP. – MATT HUETHER Jahmil was always such a kind person. My heart is heavy for him and his family. Thanks for all the good memories Jahmil, you really had an impact. I’ll cherish all the fun we had dancing at basement parties all those years ago. Still in shock. Jahmil will be missed. He was an integral part of the Degrassi family and certainly a huge part of my degrassi days. He always wanted to make people laugh and smile, a true joy to be around. Rest in Peace. – CHLOE ROSE Rest easy, my friend. Your talent, kindness and shining bright light will never be forgotten. – JESSICA TYLER Wanted to pay my respects to an incredibly kind, funny, and talented individual; Jahmil French. One of the first people I met on Degrassi, he immediately made me feel welcome. He disarmed you with a smile and his confidence and energy was infectious. You’ll be missed, brother. – DYLAN EVERETT Jahmil was one of the most gifted and effortless performers I’ve ever met. His vibrant personality lit up the room. Rest easy my friend. – MUNRO CHAMBERS I am heartbroken to hear about the loss of Jahmil. Jahmil was an extraordinary talent and a bright light on and off the screen. He was a joy to work with on Degrassi: The Next Generation. He brought an authenticity and burst of life to every scene he was in and infused his character ‘Dave’ with an airy lightness. Off screen Jahmil would always make me smile. He will be deeply missed. – LINDA SCHUYLER My heart goes out to the entire Degrassi community., but particularly of course to those who were closest with Jahmil. We have lost one of our own. Jahmil was kind, intelligent, extremely talented, and just a wonderful person. He was also of course an incredible dancer, and since I am the exact opposite we had a running joke that I had taught him all his dance moves. When I would completely ineptly do the Moonwalk, Jahmil would cheer me on, while everyone else would beg me to stop! RIP Jahmil French, your soul and presence are sorely missed. – STEPHEN STOHN A sad day for the Degrassi family. With a heavy heart I thank you for all the times you made me laugh, taught me dance moves, and gave me confidence as Adam. Thinking of all the memories we shared on and off of set. - JORDAN TODOSEY Thinking of Jahmil French & the entire Degrassi family today click here for the full post - LYLE LETTAU This one hurts me deeply. When I found out yesterday I refused to believe it! I wouldn’t except it and to be honest I still don’t quite believe it’s real. I love you and the energy between us was always genuine. Working with you was always a blast and you were always the coolest man in the room. Till we meet again my friend. – CORY LEE Terribly sad to hear about Jahmil’s passing. Whether I was his scene partner, or just a viewer, I was in awe of his sheer talent. A room was brighter because he was in it. A true performer, a great guy and a huge loss. #RestInPeace – JUSTIN KELLY I’m so shocked and saddened to hear this news about Jahmil. Jahmil was and is such a kind, fun loving, hilarious, full of life, hard working and professional person. He was my first real scene partner on a series I got to be a series regular on. I remember the day my agent sent me the casting for Degrassi. It said I would be playing Dave Turners love interest. So the first thing I did was pull up the good ol IMDB machine and find out who Jahmil French was. The same day as my audition a few mere hours later I got the call that the role was mine (pretty rare in this industry) I went in to do my fitting and thats when I met Jahmil, Spencer and AJ for the first time as they played an iconic trio on the show. They were all super friendly and nice to me and made me feel very welcomed to be joining the cast. I was nervous and 15 at the time. Jahmil was the integral glue that held the circle together and its would lead to an amazing friendship that I got to have with Spencer. I had only been slated to do 3 episodes on the show but I believe it was the on screen chemistry Jahmil and I had that lead me to stick around for longer. Jahmil always had a smile on his face. I would come in at 5am for our call to do prep and be so tired, but there he was hanging out in the green room dancing so full of energy and life. Jahmil LOVED dancing and he was really good at it too. And I’d ask him “How do you even have this much energy this early LOL” and he’d just laugh and smile. Any time we went down to block he’d be word perfect on his lines, hit every mark and bring such an amazing professionalism to the set it was mesmerizing to watch. He played every scene with a new beat that always kept it interesting and fresh. Jahmil was and still is such a kind hearted dedicated person who eventually really went on to flourish in his career and he will be deeply missed. Heaven really gained a new angel today, Rest In Peace and say hey to all the other pals up there. Spencer and I will pour one out for you - ALEXX BENOIT Rest in peace my guy. An amazingly talented actor who had such a presence on and off screen. – DEMETRIUS JOYETTE Jahmil was such a wonderful person to be around. so funny, so charismatic, so talented. and my god he loved his work. I’m devasted. Sending my love to his friends and family. In a year full of grief, it’s hard to comprehend how there can be room for more. And yet. Jahmil French was an incredible person, so full of talent and passion for his work. He lit up a room with his energy and dance moves. An easy smile and a natural charisma. He will be so missed. My heart is broken. I feel strange, announcing these things I wish I had told him more often. Reached out more often. The regret is acute. He deserved his flowers when he was here. I hope he knew how much love & admiration there was for him in this world. – AISLINN PAUL One of the most talented, kind hearted, funny spirits I’ve had the pleasure of building a friendship with. Jahmil is an icon. My love for him runs deep. Jahmil you will always hold such a special place in my heart. Thank you for being one of the most talented, compassionate, kindest, funniest friends I have. You were so loved. I’ll miss our dance offs. #Bhandurner forever. Jah literally won the title of most competitive goofball. What joy he brought to my life and to so many. So grateful for memories and deep convos with you, beautiful angel. Blessed that we got to be part of a big dysfunctional family together. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. I just hope you knew how loved you were. I learnt so much working with this talented dedicated soul. Please send a prayer for his soul to go directly toward the light. – MELINDA SHANKAR Such a beautiful soul & a light to everyone around him. Rest in Paradise Jahmil. – JOELLE FARROW This moment will live in my mind forever. A beautiful soul, thank you for the years of memories and laughter. You’re a light my brother and I’m so happy we got to experience this crazy life together. I’ll always remember you dancing down the halls of the green room. Rest In Peace. – LUKE BILYK I’m devasted. My man, I swear I was just thinking about you not even a few days ago when I was making my new demo reel, watching all the old Degrassi episodes. So talented. So unbelievably wise beyond your years. You made one of the best times of my life even better. I’m so crushed. I should have called you. I dont deserve to miss you as much as I do now. I would always say my favourite actor on the show was Mr. Jahmil French. I would always watch his parts when going thru Degrassi material to either study my tech or to cut demos or whatever else. Not 4 days ago was I daydreaming about making some kind of new production with all of those talented people. My hearts broken. – DANIEL KELLY Jahmil was always the brightest light in the room. Smiling, dancing and making all of us laugh till we cried. Rest In Peace you beautiful soul. You will be missed… - ALICIA JOSIPOVIC This is absolutely heartbreaking. While I never worked directly with Jahmil on Degrassi, our paths did cross a few times. All you needed was 5 minutes with him to realize what a beautiful, talented, bright soul he was. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved onces. Rest In Peace Jahmil French. – ANA GOLJA Shocked & saddened to hear of Jahmil’s passing. Loss of such a talented and bright soul. Rest in Power cuz, I’ll pour one out for you, am so wishing this was a dream. – JAJUBE MANDIELA I join thousands of people around the world thinking about Jahmil today. A beautiful, joyful person to be on set with, truly intimidating on the dance floor, an all-around wonderful person to have known, gone just way, way too soon. Sending love to everyone who loved him. Jahmil, I hope you feel it too. – CHARLOTTE ARNOLD I didn’t know Jahmil very well, but in the few times we met, he was so explosively kind, charismatic and truly interested and invested in every interaction. I immediately felt accepted and got a sense of the deep compassion that so many others had expressed was within him. The impression I had always stuck with me and from all I have heard he was such a beautiful and loving person, the special kind that makes everything a little lighter. Thank you to everyone who has been sharing stories of their time with him. Sending love to Jahmil and all of you. – ERIC OSBORNE Jahmil was such a special human. A long-time acting student of mine, & my mentee. He was fearless and brilliant in his pursuit, and I’m so sad we won’t get to see more of his gift. I’m so grateful to have crossed paths with him, and I wish him eternal peace. – SALVATORE ANTONIO So sad to hear of Jahmil’s passing. He was so kind and so funny. I’m glad I had the chance to know him. You will be missed. Rest in Power Jahmil. Gone too soon. Will never be forgotten. – TAYSHA FULLER Even though I only worked with Jahmil for a little while he made a truly lasting impression. I remember when I first came back to set as Tori and I was incredibly nervous those first few weeks, but Jahmil was so welcoming and treated me and the other new cast members like we’d been a part of the cast the whole time. If he gave you a compliment or even said something as simple as “it’s so good to see you” you knew he genuinely meant it. It seems like a small thing but it’s hard to find that kind of authentic honesty in most people. He was an incredibly talented actor and always such a positive energy on set, and I’ll remember him for all those vibrant moments. Rest In Peace. – ALEXA STEELE This smile. This spark. This spirit. Jah I am missing you from this earthly plane we all love you. – MEGAN FERGUSON there never seems to be enough time… I don’t know if words can describe someone like Jah. He really was too special for this world. A true artist to his soul. I was lucky to call him my friend. Rest in Peace and Power Angel. you will be so dearly missed. – PAUL JAMES I guess I thought if I refrained from making a post, it would ease some of the pain.. but the more hours that pass, the more it sets in heavier. JAH. Mi familia. My brother. I am crushed. I have believed in you since the moment we met, and it makes me smile to know the feeling was 100% reciprocated. The purest soul. Always himself no matter WHERE he went. It takes courage to be that way you know? To have that strength. From Antigone to degrassi, to LA to NY you had EVERYTHING in you to shine. All the power, all the talent, all the intelligence the drive, the fearlessness. Your smile made me smile. Sweeterman jah, I miss you so much already. – SHANICE BANTON Dance on, old friend -through the clouds. I will see you on the other side. click here for the full post – SHANNON KOOK

so it goes
Tumblr media
Summary: When Alex moves in across the hall, Rio knows he’s in trouble. A good girl like her would never want anything to do with him, or so he thinks.
Word count: 2k
Chapter 10
To say Rio was on cloud nine would be an understatement. He felt on top of the damn world as he replayed the events that took place just last night. How fucking good it felt to finally be able to kiss her, to hold her close and just feel her. He knew he was already gone for her, that much was true but after last night but it was scary how much Rio felt so fast.
He was in such a good mood and even the bitches from the suburbs that he was doing business with were not going to bring him down. Rio dreaded meet ups with them, sure sometimes he’d get a rise out of their fear but Beth always rubbed him the wrong way. She spent a few months playing robber and making cash and suddenly she thought she was a big dog. Beth was a big pain in his ass but even she couldn’t take away from the good day he was having.
Rio hopped out of his car, Mick following suit. They both made their way over to Beth, Annie, and Ruby. The former looking way more smug than her two other accomplices.
“It’s all there.” Beth said as Mick started to grab the four boxes on the table they were sitting at.
“I’ll count it and tell you if it’s all there.” Rio replied as Mick took the boxes back to the car.
“Same time next week, ladies?” Rio asked teasingly, there was no question about it. They were going to see him whether they liked it or not.
As he went to turn away Beth stopped him.
“Wait.” Rio turned back to face her. He noticed how Annie and Beth were giving her glares, probably desperate to be done with him already.
Rio tilted his head waiting for her to talk. Beth stood up and walked over to him and then reached in her bag. Rio had his hands behind his back but made no move to defend himself, he knew Beth wouldn’t be so stupid to shoot him here and now.
He watched her as she pulled out some colorful flowers. He was confused as Beth handed them to him. He looked down at the petals and then his eye caught the tag that was attached to the string. Flor Amor.
Rio’s heart stopped in his chest.
“My way of saying thank you for hearing me out and letting us live.” She said and smiled. For a second Rio thought that it could just be a fluke, everyone shopped at Alex’s. But Beth wasn’t the type of person to just stumble upon coincidences, this had to be deliberate.
“Where did you get these?” Rio gritted out. He was about to boil over with rage. There’s no way Beth could be this stupid, no way she would essentially threaten Alex.
“Oh, a really cute flower shop a few blocks from here. You should meet the owner, Alex. Very nice girl, very sweet.” Beth’s smirk told Rio all he needed to know. He dropped the flowers and grabbed Beth by the neck, squeezing but not enough to actually kill her. She gasped in shock and wrapped her hands around his arm. Fear was now evident in her eyes. Annie and Ruby quickly got up and rushed to her side and started pleading with Rio but he didn’t hear any of it. All he could think about was Beth talking to Alex. Beth taking advantage of Alex’s kindness. Beth telling Alex who Rio was. What he actually did.
“You go anywhere near her or that shop again, I’ll kill you.” Is all he said before he pushed her away. Beth and Ruby went to her aid to make sure she was alright as she clutched her neck. He went to turn away but Beth spoke up again. He was sure she had a death sentence. He didn’t turn around this time, just stood there, backing facing them.
“Does she know what you are?” She asked, smugness still in her tone despite her life being threatened only seconds ago. Rio didn’t say anything and instead walked back to the car.
No, Alex didn’t know what he was. But even he didn’t know that, did he? Was he a monster? A villain? A villain only bringing the poor innocent girl into the crossfire to potentially be collateral damage? No. No he wasn’t. Was he? He hated how wound up that question got him. How it made him start to think. How last night he was so eager to make Alex his but he was going crazy with how to tell her. He couldn’t lie to her. Truth was the foundation of any good relationship, he knew that. He couldn’t just cling on to ignorance being bliss, because what they don’t tell you is that eventually, that ignorance breaks and in its wake is a whole lot of secrets and lies exposed. If ignorance is bliss than the truth is a bitch. And the truth was what Alex would get from him sooner or later. Right now he just wanted to see her, despite Beth not being one to actually hurt an innocent girl, he still needed to see Alex. So he drove until he reached her shop. He normally wouldn’t come empty handed but he didn’t care and he doubted that Alex would either. Mick made himself scarce as Rio entered the shop. He was quickly hit with the smell of fresh flowers and he could faintly smell hints of Alex’s perfume. Hope and Allie were the ones to great him with big smiles.
“Hey, Rio.” They both said, knowing smiles on their faces. No doubt they had forced Alex to tell them everything that had happened last night.
“Hey, ladies. How are you both today?” Rio leaned against the counter. He liked the girls, he could see how much they cared for Alex and Rio felt that they were genuine.
They both replied, creating a bit of conversation. Rio didn’t mind, he wasn’t going to be rude and any friend of hers was sure to be a friend of his if he played his cards right.
“Are you two going to actually help me or are you going to just–” Alex stopped as she came out from the back room. Her eyes immediately locking with Rio’s.
“Hey, mamas.” Rio said, standing up straight.
“We’ll help. Go on.” Allie and Hope pushed Alex forward and out of the doorway as they disappeared in the back.
“Hey.” Alex smiled. A blush taking over her cheeks. She walked over to Rio and he pulled her into him like it was second nature and pressed a kiss to her lips. Alex smiled through it and Rio couldn’t keep the grin off his face either. They both laughed and then went in for another kiss. Rio could get used to this. He could do this every damn day. Kissing her was so fucking intoxicating. They finally pulled away. He was happy that even though they had only had one date, she was already comfortable enough with him to be this intimate so quickly.
“Kinda missed you.” Alex said, turning even more red as she admitted it. Rio kissed her forehead and took her face in his hands to tilt her to look up at him.
“Yeah? I missed you too.” He said and they both grinned.
“Didn’t they just see each other last night…”
“Leave them alone, they’re cute.”
Alex huffed and turned to see both Allie and Hope peeking out of the doorframe. Rio was amused as they quickly hid from view.
“I pay you to work not to be nosey.” Alex shook her head and turned back to Rio. He laughed lightly as she rolled her eyes.
“So, I was thinking, if you’re not busy… maybe you could come over tonight and I could make dinner and dessert?” Alex bit her lip, waiting for his response. Rio brought his thumb to tug her bottom lip away from her teeth. She let him as he trailed his thumb along her bottom lip and then he his eyes met hers again after watching the movement.
“I’d like that, sweetheart. What’s on the menu?” He still held her as she had her hands on his back. Chests still grazing.
“You’ll have to wait and see.” Alex gave him a wide smile and he returned it. He didn’t care what she was making, he’d be there and he’d be grateful and happy. He was glad to see her. It put him back in a good mood again despite Beth somehow knowing who she was and who she was to Rio. He’d have to delve into that later, right now, today, he just wanted to be with Alex.
“You good?” Alex asked as she noticed Rio seemed to go off somewhere.
He smiled and gave her a kiss to the cheek. He loved how she already knew him so well, knew something was up. She could read him already and he didn’t entirely mind.
“Yeah, long morning. Better now though.” He said. She took the answer but still had worry lingering.
“Want to talk about it?” Alex knew she was at work but it was a dead hour and the girls could manage without her if she needed to step away.
“Nah, it’s nothing. You hungry? I can bring you back some lunch?” He offered, trying to get her mind off his apprehension.
“I just ate but thanks.” Alex swooned at the fact that Rio was willing to bring her back food. A customer walked in and Allie quickly tended to the person so Alex could stay talking to Rio.
“I guess I should let you get back to it.” He said and pulled away, bringing his hands down to her hips.
“Yeah, be at my place around seven?” She asked and he nodded in agreement.
“I’ll be there.” Rio couldn’t help himself as he pulled her in for another kiss. He’d keep doing it as long as she was okay with it. But she didn’t seem to mind at all as she relaxed into it and then broke away, heat rising to her cheeks as she made sure the customer didn’t see them. PDA was surely not good for business and not exactly professional either.
“Bye, Rio.” She said, pushing him away and laughing as he smirked and tried to kiss her again.
“Alright, alright. Bye, mamas. See you tonight.” He said and finally left her alone and walked out of the shop.
Rio felt a wave of emotion after seeing Alex again. On one hand he was happy to see her safe and okay, and well, he was just happy to see her in general. But even so, he couldn’t get what Beth said out of his head. Couldn’t shake the feeling that he was only going to do more harm than good. But he kept holding on to Alex’s smile, and the way her lips moved with his, and the way she blushed whenever he was around. He didn’t want to mess that up but he didn’t want to keep this from her because he knew it would blow up in his face if he left it on the back burner. He needed to come clean and fast if Beth was going to be stupid enough to continue lurking around Alex and the shop. He knew it would be worse if Alex heard it from Beth. He struggled with how to tell her, when to tell her. They had just gone on their first date and although some part of him felt that it was too soon, another part told him that it was the perfect time, the beginning of the relationship is when you lay yourself out for the person to see, to see if they will take everything you’re offering.
Rio was cursing himself. Maybe he could tell her tonight. But if he was going to tell her, he needed to be prepared to lose her tonight too. He didn’t think he was ready for that.

The Struggle of Loving You - Chapter 28
Chapter Selection
Three months later
Emily and Garcia made plans for the team. They had spoken to JJ and we all were going to get drinks later today.
I was sitting in my car driving over to the coffee shop, I hadn't gotten any for the apartment and the coffee at the office tasted burnt.
I stood in line and my mind wandered over to Hotch, it was earlier in the morning... maybe he wanted some. But I also thought about when he was hurt. When the arrow was sticking out of his body.
"That's my girl", what did he mean by that. Why did he say that?
It could've been from the blood loss. That he was disoriented. Hotch was still getting over the injury, he had a close call in surgery. He had already lost so much blood laying on the floor waiting for the ambulance.
I was sitting in the waiting room for hours, I never left to the hotel.
When he woke up I was the first person he saw. With a weak smile spread across his face, he was happy to see me. Nothing ever happened after that though, no little moments.
Other than staying with him in the hospital I was rarely there.
Emily helped him for the most part, helping him get home. Jack was staying with Hayley until Hotch was fully recovered.
He couldn't wait to get back to work, when he did he wasn't allowed in the field. Being strictly confined to the office, but it was better than nothing at all.
We talked more than we did before that day but not as much as I would like. I found the awkward silence was better than breaking it so we barely said anything.
I ordered and decided on getting everyone a cup. After paying I got back into my car and drove to the office, walking inside and deciding on taking the elevator.
Before the elevator doors closed the person inside opened them for me, "Hey mama."
I smiled and remembered, "Oh here... got you some."
I handed him his cup and we walked inside the bullpen. "Are the rest for you", he laughs.
"Of course, you know I drink nothing but coffee." I went around the desks and placed their drinks on it.
"It would explain why you're always hyper and jittery", scoffing, I put Reids drink down in front of him.
"You have jokes now."
His boyish smile tugged on his lips and he looked back down at his book. I turned back and glanced up at Hotch's office, seeing his figure in the window.
Taking a few deep breaths I grabbed the last cup and walked up. Knocking softly I heard his deep voice rumble through the door.
He looked up from his desk, "Y/n?" He dropped his pen, I placed the drink on his. "Still take it black?" He huffed.
"Yeah", the small talk was over, I made my way towards the door until he stopped me. "Are you going with us tonight?"
"Wouldn't miss it", with that I walked out to my desk, getting started on the pile of paperwork that needed to be done. Being a slow day, there were no interruptions.
I took a few phone calls but nothing major. I knew who was coming up behind me when I heard the heels clicking.
"Y/n come on" , I tossed my head back and stood up collecting the completed files in my hands. "Alright hold on", Garcia waited by my desk while I dropped off my work.
"Done already?", he was a little surprised. "Hotch you have to know by now I always exceed your expectations."
"That you do."
We shared a smile, inside I was still grinning. I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy those very limited small conversations.
"We're gonna dress her up", Pen said to Emily as we joined her in the elevator. I got in my car and they met me at the apartment. Walking in I left the door open because they were right behind me.
"Bedroom now", Emily said and she shut the door, we all marched down the hallway.
I sat on the bed, not touching anything. I watched as they tore through my closet looking for a good dress. "Oh shit y/n, what about this."
She held out the dress I wore underneath my gown for graduation. The fitting skin tight dress, that hugged everything the right way.
It was also the dress I was wearing when Hotch and I ended up fucking in the club.
It brought back memories I didn't want to remember at the moment. "I don't know about that... I don't think it fits anymore."
"Try it anyways", she handed it to me and I wasn't going to fight her on it. I grabbed it and headed to the bathroom, closing the doors and threw it on.
I ran my hands over my body, feeling the fit.It still fit perfectly, I walked out and showed them, "See it fits, wear it."
"I would but I don't have any shoes for it", right as those words were said Emily pulled out the pair of black heels Chloe would let me borrow. "Who's Chloe?"
"Old friend", they shrugged and put my clothes back in the closet, cleaning up their mess.
"Aren't you guys going to change?", they walked into the kitchen and Em pulled out a bottle of wine.
"Trust me that'll take five minutes for me to get ready", Garcia agreed because she was already ready.
"So... do you like Hotch?", Em said pouring me a glass. I shifted away a few inches and took the glass. I brought it to my lips.
"He's okay", she raised her eyebrows and Pen just cocked her head to the side.
"What's that look for?" , she shook her head. "No reason— It just seems that both of you I don't know, like each other."
I almost choked on my drink, I started laughing a bit. I tried to act like she was lying but the blush creeping up my cheeks gave it away.
But I could blame that on the wine, "What makes you say that? We barely have spoken more than a minute and he doesn't even stay around me for more than he needs to."
Even Garcia was looking at me like I was crazy. Was it that obvious... I get they're profilers but we haven't done anything at all to insinuate feelings whatsoever.
"Really y/n you're going to stand there and say you don't like him... I'm not a profiler and I can tell the little subtle glances. How his eyes linger on you for a little too long. And you do the same thing to him. There may be no words but it's something."
I wasn't sure what to say... couldn't exactly say to them that I used to fuck our boss. That we broke it off because of the job.
"I don't know, I mean he's attractive yes but I wouldn't."
It pained me to say that... all I wanted to do was jump into his arms.
To have him kiss me until I couldn't breathe, my body yearned for his touch and my mind craved him as a person.
I wanted him back but that wasn't realistic, not right now.
Emily got a text and checked her phone.
"Let's go", Emily mumbled, trying not to spill her wine. I followed them out to the car and we drove to meet the team and JJ.
Getting there I was hounded with questions, they just wanted to get to know me more. But then it started getting personal and somehow worked its way back to Hotch.
"Okay can we stop", I mumbled. They barely heard me but they got the message. I was over it, talking about anything was fine but I wanted to stay away from that subject.
Constantly asking what he thinks of me and vice versa. Whether we'd be a good couple or not, I already knew those answers.
And those answers hurt more than anything because I also know how that ended.
Walking into the club I already saw where everyone was, Morgan was on the floor joined with a few women.
Rossi was in the corner working on the next Mrs Rossi, Reid was also at the bar talking to the bartender.
Hotch... he was talking to a woman that had made herself comfortable at our table.
I took a deep breath and made my way over with Emily and Garcia, "Is JJ he— hey." Em spotted JJ walking out of the bathroom.
"I missed you so much, how are you guys?" JJ came over and gave a big hug to Em and Pen. I stood there awkwardly, "This— is y/n she was the one I told you about." They pulled me closer to them.
"Hi, they told me a lot about you", I said with a smile. My eyes kept fixating over to Hotch that was now smiling at her and making her laugh.
"Nice to meet you, guys. I'm going to sit down." They nodded and said they were going to grab some shots for all of us.
I went over to the table and Hotch turned his head to the side, seeing me. As I got closer he started to ignore the woman he was with, me being his only focus.
I sat down next to him, "Who's your friend?" The woman said in a jealous tone.
"Kelly this is y/n, we work together", she looked me up and down. I wasn't having it, I wasn't in the mood for a pissing match. If she wanted him she could take him.
"You look gorgeous by the way", the woman scoffed and got up from the table. Now it was just us... together alone.
"Thank you", he was about to open his mouth when the team came back over with the drinks. "Aye look who finally got here." I laughed as Morgan sat next to me.
"I got here like five minutes ago not to mention the same time as Garcia and Emily."
"Didn't see you. You're not a very vocal person, but it's ok mama", he put an arm around me and kissed my temple. Smiling, I reached in the middle for a shot.
I looked around and didn't notice the woman Morgan was with, "Where are little lady friends."
He looked down at the drink in his hand and finished it, "Oh I'll be seeing them soon."
Tossing my head back I took a shot and my throat burned while it made its way down.
All joining me they went for it. "Reid what happened with the bartender, she was into you."
"No she wasn't"
"Reid I know I'm new and I get you're a profiler but how could you not tell, it's obvious."
"Really", Reid said, I could see the pink covering his face. He was embarrassed that he didn't notice.
"Yes smart ass, go get some", Emily told him and he took another shot for confidence and went back to the bar.
Minutes after that Morgan brought over more drinks and seeing as I wasn't really in the best state of mind because of what Garcia and Emily were talking about prior to the gathering, I was upset.
I continuously started drinking with no sign of stopping.

Bad Liar
Summary: You and the boys have to spend the Night somehwere in the nowhere because of a failed mission.Billy is pissed and blames you for their situation, thats when you want to know what his problem is
Word count: ca.2500
,,Anal Wanderer.'' you said breaking the long silence in the car, that lasted since you had ran to the car to flee from your failed mission.
The original plan was to get information from a supe, whose hero career was is total flop, but Vought somehow had managed to know about your plan and almost catched you ,when you left the supe's house. The question whose fault that was would be a huge discussion later on - you had a feeling for that.
,,What?'' asked Billy, who only gave you a brief glance before he continued his grumpy look on the street. Eyerolling you looked outside of your window again, getting the ungood feeling your attempt to light up the mood wasn't about to work out.
,,My sister and I used to do that ,when we would do our vacations on caravan places.Always putting the word 'anal' before every caravan's name.'' you said already searching for another good one from all the caravans your car passed on the huge camping place.Even though you managed to get rid off Vought, Billy decided that he had no interest in driving for another six hours , he wanted to sleep.
,,Oh Anal Open Gear.'' said Hughie from behind, slightly giggeling.
,,Anal Pegasus.'' you added pointning outside.
,,Are we driving with two fucking kids?'' Billy asked M&M , looking to him through the mirror, above him, earning an unimpressed ''Yep''.
,,I got almost killed.I'm just trying to light up the mood, even though I have a reason not to do that.'' you said to Billy.
,,You wouldn't have to do that if I didn't had to save your ass.'', said Billy.
There was your hint, whose fault ist might be for the rather failed misson.
,,Maybe if someone hadn't decided to cancel the plan, I wouldn't have been caught by some stupid soldier fuckers'' said you and turned your glance to him showing your swollen arm to Billy, that had blocked a hit with the gun on his head from him.It wasn't that you were only there to cause trouble.
You could still feel the pain in your head, from being smashed on to the ground multiple times, when you fought back, and the weakness in your knees, that first came up ,when Billy helped you up and brought you to the car.
With a kick down on the brake the car stood still forcfully and you thought Billy had stoped to start screaming at you but he didn't.He just went out of the car and was gone. You were on a free place now, some meters away from the rest of the caravans. When you went also outside ,the silence continued, the only things you heared were Hughie and M&M talking and the Ocean.
,,Fuck.'' you said to yourself, when you realised that you wanted to apologize to Billy but also had no interest in giving in.
M&M was the first that went to sleep, when you arrived it already was sunset. After the last orange clouds were gone Hughie also went to sleep, after he had tried to distract you a bit from the situation with Billy and the fact that someone almost killed you.But without much success. You liked Billy but sometimes you could really punch him in the face and the shook still run through your body, when you thought about it.You knew you didn't even had to try go to sleep.
You followed the little path and the sounds of crushing waves, until you reached some small hills. The whole beach started to spread underneath you.You just searched for a nice place to sit, when you noticed Billy, sitting only some meters away from you.The first idea that crossed your mind was to just ignore him, since he still seemed pissed, but then you decided otherwise.
,,From a scale from one to ten – how much of a cunt am I to you?'' you asked when you sat down next to him, offering him one of your cigaretts, even tough he just had finished one.
,,You're not a cunt.'' he said, after he had decided to accept your offering.,,You're just fucking emotional.'' said he once he had lighted his cigarette and gave you his lighter.
,,What do you mean?'' you asked ,reaching out for it.
,,Listen when I mess up the plan then cause the plan actually sucks. But you always seem to mess up, cause you try to fix every upcoming problem.'' Billy said.
With raised eyebrows you took a drag.
,,Too caring huh? Didn't know that might be a bad thing. You're the one, who started this whole team thing.'' you said still in a calm tone, due to Billy's composure.
,,Yeah but I trust everyone, that he wont mess up except you.You just run to everyone trying to do his job.'' said Billy.
,,You mean for example preventing you from getting knocked out?Its not that I had something else to do than protecting your asses.'' you said.Billy just grumbled.
,,You think I can't do better, right?'' you asked, but deep down knew the answer.
,,See here is the thing. You're not a supe nor ,pardon, very strong. If I hadn't knocked this cunt out, you might wouldn't be here.We didn't take you as an all-around wonder, just someone for the technical work.'' Billy said.
,,And yet you took me with you for this mission. There must be some other reason, cause I had no direct job today. You're a bad liar.'' you said and threw your cigarett in the sand.
,,Careful love, I fear you're not in the position to call me that, when you're doing an awfull job of hiding your emotions.'', said Billy.,,And there we have it again.'' he added and took another drag.
Then again silence. That was again for you a sign ,that some topics could be discussed untill the end with Billy.Sometimes you had to find your answer on your own.
,,I hope when this is all over, I can find something near the beach.I could spend hours listen to the waves crashing down and looking up in the night sky.'' you said.
,,Maybe you should talk to the Fishhero, when we meet him again.'' said Billy, not really intrested in admiring this place.
You laughed unintenionally.
,,God that sounded like a possible answer from one of those quizzes to get to know which Hero would be your match.'' you said.
Billy had to snort.,,Please tell me you have a good excuse to know ,that some bullshit like this exists.''
,,Its just that Annie and I discussed which 90s singer would be our match – that had to be claryfied. It was Eddie Vedder'' you added when you had stood up.
,,Eddie Vedder, huh?Ahh careful with the arm'' said Billy, stoping in his cocky answer, when you leaned on your arm, to stand up from the sand.He stood up before you could,to take his offered hand.
,,I'm not out of glass.'' you said.,,Its the other arm, by the way.Left handed. The ones who are more creative'' you added with a smirk on your lips.
,,Right.Maybe that's the reason you should fuck Eddie Vedder'' said Billy scratching behind his ear.
,,Or the reason why I'm actually good in adapting to your off- plan actions.'' you said back, earning a silent grin from Billy.
,,So no night swimming for us than?'' he asked having a last glance at the water.
,,I'm way too hungry for that, but you can come and join me.'' you said.
,,I fear I don't have enough money left for that.'' Billy said.
,,Pity, I can't give you money. The boss hates it when I care about our colleagues.'' you said but gave him a smile and nod to follow him.
,,Boss?Could get used to you calling me that way.'' he said with a smirk, when you both started your walk.
Since Hughie and M&M already sleeped in the car, you both had to walk to the next diner. You remembered that you saw one, only a mile away from the caravan place. To your suprise the diner was also half of a karaoke bar. When you read the shop sign, you weren't sure to go inside but your stomach told you, that listening to bad singing was the smallest problem right know.Fortunatly it turned out that the almost the whole dinner was empty, leaving a small chance of hearing any singing.
You just enjoyed eating something properly and the peaceful athmosphere until your left arm ran into the table and the small pain forced you back into the memories from today.A blackout almost reached every brain cell from you until you remembered how Billy thought about you and you forced yourself too become calm again.Besides you didn't want that – to be scarred to life just because of some idiots.
Your gaze wandered across the diner and Billy. He was right, maybe, if he hadn't saved you today, god knows where you would have ended. With that on your mind you stood up from the table.
Billy had noticed your changed behavior and had a look on you when you went away, thinking you just needed some time alone. He even noticed how he thought about following you, just in case you couldn't calm down by yourself, but when you stoped at the little stage instead of the restrooms he freezed in his motion to stand up, just to sit back again in defeat.
And his fears turned out to be right, when a song started only seconds after.
You focused on the upcoming beat and high pitched voice from your low key favourite song ,,She is on my mind'' and ignored every negative thought, that came up.The next thing you felt was how you had started to sing, even before you noticed it and how your body swinged to the music.Full of disbelieve you looked into the small crowd, spreaded across the diner tables. No one seemed to really like your singing but that didn't stop you from having your fun on the small stage. You sometimes even dared to look at Billy, but you were far to buys to try to understand what kind of look he gave you right now.
When the song was over you made an exaggerated bow and walked back to Billy , acting as if nothing had happened.
,,Maybe you and Starlight could start a girls group.Didn't know you were into that stuff, since your cheeks already turn red when you order something to eat.'' Billy said when you had paid for the food and walked back to the car.
He had a point there, you could still feel your hot cheeks, or rather again.
,,I don't know.Maybe I'll regret to did that.I just had no interest in falling into a black pit just because of today...I just wanted to use my time again.'' you said in defense.
,,With doing something totaly stupid?'' asked Billy with a grin in your direction.
,,No.Doing something I always wanted to do but never dared to.'' you admitted.
,,See there it is again. Those little things no one else really does in our group, you're even worser than Hughie.'' Billy said.
,,But you like Hughie.'' you said with no effort in suppressing your smile.
,,Oi would you stop that.'' said Billy stoping in his walking and giving you a serious look.,,I tell you what.I'll kiss you when you promise me to stop putting you in danger all the time, alright?'' he asked.
Just as Billy mentioned the word 'kiss' you could feel the blood shot up in your cheeks.Your heart beat even harder against your breast, when you had answered immediatly, knowing damn well that he just wanted to tease you.
,,You think this is a good deal?'' you asked with too much mocking in your words for your liking afterwards, when you saw how Billy leaned himself against the nearest wall of a building, already all confident.
,,You will have to tell me that love.'' he said with his familar smirk on his lips.
You steped over to him and with every step closer to him you could see how his smirk widened while his eyes stayed curiously on you.Your breast almost brushed his open jacket, when you stood infront of him and looked up at his lips, savouring this moment.Because you knew that would be the first and last chance.
,,Maybe thats a good deal.'' you said.,,Didn't know you could be so generous.'' Those words made him smile once again. At first your body flinched once Billy laid his hand carefully on your waist and even though your heart skipped one beat after another, you liked this.
,,Didn't know you could be such a tease.'' he said, when you had pulled away and leaned against his grip around you, that stayed. His fingers drew small circles on your back when he eyed you up.
,,Not a tease.I just sayed no '' you said and turned around to walk out of his grip.
,,Clearly not.I would do an even bader job in this group than now, I don't think I want that.'', you said referring back to his offer and continued your walk but Billy wasn't done with you.
,,Try again.Dont you think I hadn't noticed?'' Billy asked to stop you from walking any further.,,Your looks and how you act.You might fool everyone else but I fucking know that if you follow someone like a little pup into every stupid situation you love that person... or you're just Hughie , and you're not Hughie.'' he added the last part with an eyeroll but still more serious than the rest of the night.
And even though the last part made you smile for Hughies loyality , you freezed on your spot once more, as Billy said that.
He pushed himself away from the wall and crossed the distance to you.Your eyes were filled with guilt and you had no defense to offer.
,,Listen I don't think I want this.I fear I'm not good at protecting people.I mean just take a fucking look at your arm.Nor am I a good partner. So just let me kiss you that you can come over all this fucking lovesickness and we can go back to work.'' he said.
Each word punched you in your stomach, until you stood there with tearfilled eyes. That was enough for you to grab him by his neck and kiss him, finally showing that you wasn't the only liar.
Your lips moved together and you felt that when you wanted to move back, Billy stoped you by planting his hands on your waist and held you even closer. After some seconds you leaned back and looked up at him.His eyes were never so full of warmness before.
,,You are the worst liar I know Billy.'' you said after you could find your voice again, still standing infront of him, waiting for his reaction.
One of his hands carresed your cheek, he had to grin at your words, but this time it faded away instantly.
,,What am I gonna do with you?'' he said while eyeing you up deep in thoughts.
,,For now.Fucking keep me.'' you said demandingly but still with a smile on your lips, now that you gained a bit of hope again.
,,Just fucking promise me to take better care of you.'' he said before he pulled you back in his embrace, as if you were about to vanish otherwise. In that moment you both realised your dilema and cursed it, while you also enjoyed the truth.
