As the evening sun set, you finally allowed yourself a moment of relaxation. You had been on your feet all day, running errands and meeting deadlines, so you took advantage of your partner leaving you alone for few hours.
You stepped into the bathroom, the cool tiles soothing your tired feet. You lit a few candles allowing the room to get filed with the scent of lavender. You turned the faucets, letting the water flow until it reached the perfect temperature, then added a bit of a bubble bath that Jamie gifted you. It had become a tradition - anytime he would go abroad he would bring you something selfcare related. It varied from soaps, perfumes to gua sha stones and face rollers.
You slipped out of your clothes and stepped into the bath. Warm, but not too hot, water provided a comforting feeling - almost like a hug. The quietness didn't last long as it was interrupted by the sound of the front door opening.
Jamie stepped through the door of your shared flat, his mind still buzzing from an evening in a loud bar. He was met with an unusual lack of sound. You usually kept the tv or some music on even on low volume. His feet softly patted against the wooden floor as he searched for you.
Pushing open the bathroom door, he found himself greeted by a scene straight out of a dream. The room was aglow with candlelight, casting dancing shadows on the walls. Steam rose from the bathtub, curling in lazy tendrils around the room. And there, nestled in the water like a siren in her element, was his lover.
You looked up, your eyes sparkling as he took in the view in front of him. Your hair was piled atop your head in a messy bun, stray pieces framing your face. Drops of water clung to your skin, glistening like jewels in the soft light.
"Welcome home, love," your voice a melody that sent shivers down Jamie's spine.
He returned the smile, his heart swelling with affection at the sight of you. Crossing the room in a few quick strides, he sat down on the floor, just by the bathtub, content to watch, in silent admiration.
"How was dinner?" you asked. The sight before him made him forget anything he was doing that day.
"Good, a bit loud. I think I'm getting old." he responded with a small chuckle. He closed his eyes and rested his head on the edge of the tub. Your fingers gently stroked his head. You had always had a deep connection, no need for words, just enjoying each other's presence.
"Care to join me?" you asked, your gaze filled with invitation.
Jamie hesitated, torn between the desire to join you and the weight of exhaustion that still clung to him. He longed to sink into the warm embrace of the bath, to lose himself in the comfort of your presence. But he knew that he needed a moment to collect himself, to find his footing once more.
"Thank you, love. As much as it hurts me, I think I'll just sit here for a while." Jamie replied gently, offering you a small smile.
"Of course," you said softly, reaching out to squeeze his hand in silent reassurance as his eyes met yours.
And so, Jamie sat beside you, watching as you bathed in the soft glow of candlelight. As you closed her eyes, lost in the warmth of the water, Jamie felt a sense of peace wash over him.
In that moment, surrounded by love and candlelight, Jamie knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be. And as he gazed upon his lover, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the simple moments you shared - the ones that reminded him of the beauty and magic that existed in the world.

🌷 fic friday;
“we talk too much”
jamie hewlett x reader,, fluff + smut
This Thursday morning was quiet and slow, but it was nearing its end far too quickly. Jamie and I laid in his dormitory, between the sheets, exchanging soft words. I was on my stomach with my head turned towards him and left hand on his arm, and he was on his back switching his focus between me and the ceiling.
“Do you think we can stay here all day?” I asked, knowing full well he had an important class to get to in about two hours, judging by the sun peeking up over the roof of the main building. It was the middle of October and there was still some mist left from the night along the lawn outside the window.
“I wish I could, but we’re finishing up that project today with the-“
“Yeah, I know,” I mumbled in a somber tone. He chuckled and looked at me, peeling away his palms which had just rubbed his eyes.
“Sorry for droning on about my fucking schoolwork to you.”
He slid his arm under my neck and hugged my head into his chest and I laughed into it softly. I took a breath in and felt my whole body fill with his scent.
“No, no, I go on and on about all my shit too,” I laughed, peering my head out again as he loosened his embrace.
“We talk too much,” I decided.
Jamie looked down at me and one of his famous smirks had formed on his lips.
“I can agree with that.”
I laughed again and rolled my eyes. That wasn’t what I had meant, but I was happy to follow his lead.
“We better remedy that then,” I muttered and began climbing up to reach his mouth. Jamie pulled back, smirk still playing on his lips.
“Yeah, I know just how to shut you up,” he claimed playfully and flipped me over suddenly, earning a little gasp from me as half his body weight slammed onto me. He sucked a harsh kiss into my lips and quickly moved his mouth down my jaw and neck.
Jamie’s hand explored up the inside of my loose t-shirt and had only just cupped the side of my breast when there was a knock on the door. He sighed his hot breath onto the skin of my neck and his head fell to the mattress next to it.
“Jamie!” the boy yelled into the door and knocked again. We both instantly recognised it as Jamie’s friend Harry’s voice.
“He’ll go away,” he whispered and resumed his neck-kissing.
“Jamie! Get the fuck off y/n and open the door!” I burst into a giggle and Jamie sighed again. “I just need my car keys. I think I left them in your room on your desk.”
Jamie looked toward his desk and rolled his eyes at the sight of Harry’s car keys. He huffed and puffed and shimmied out of bed, his hair messy and shirtless torso pale and soft in the morning sun.
“Here, wanker,” he mumbled as he opened the door and presumably shoved the keys into Harry’s fist.
“Morning, y/n!” Harry chirped into the room, despite not seeing the bed from where he was standing. Jamie tried to close the door on him but he stuck his big boot in the doorway.
“Morning!” I laughed.
“You let me know if my man Jamie doesn’t treat you right, kid!” he said and tried to peer in around the door, only to be met with Jamie’s hand shoving him out by the chest. Harry took a step back and Jamie closed and locked the door quickly.
“Plenty of fish in the sea if he can’t get you off, you know,” he shouted through the door as Jamie had dived back into bed with me and was now kissing up my stomach.
“I’m gonna kill him,” he muttered and nipped at my skin. I chuckled and combed my fingers through his hair.
“I’ll keep that in mind, thanks!” I yelled, grinning playfully at Jamie who had shot his eyes back up at me. I heard Harry’s laughter fade down the hall and Jamie was now up by my face.
“I’ll show you just how good I can get you off,” he muttered into my lips and sent waves of arousal through my body.

And in the Beginning...
Summary: after spending a day at D.C.’s most renowned multifandom convention Spencer and Garcia stop for a coffee. Spoiler alert - our fave Resident Genius dumps their order on Reader.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x gn!reader (Reader is a sci-fi buff)
Category: fluff
TW/CW: swearing, mentions of food, some Star Wars-related talk
Word Count: 2k
Once again, a ginormous THANK YOU to @drgenius-reid for taking the time to beta-read the first draft (aka witnessing the horror)!
The following work is my entry for @imagining-in-the-margins' CM Meet Cute (or not) Challenge and is also part of the series Spencer Reid, my beloved
Tumblr media
“Highlight of the day?! Jamie Hewlett signing my copy of The Cream of Tank Girl! In you face, Mr. 'Superman Can Fly'...!”
The woman carrying a Chinese paper umbrella rummaged through her purse to retrieve a wallet and pay at the coffee truck parked outside the convention center; stylish two-tone glasses matched the army green jumpsuit with a teddy bear patch on her right leg and the blue mandarin collar button-down shirt she was wearing, and her blond hair was tied up in a pair of small side buns.
The tall man beside her chuckled as he picked up two cups. “I don’t know if I should be more impressed or worried.”
“Why?! We made a deal and it’s perfect: he can have Sci-Fi-Gate, I’m keeping WashCon.”
“Sci-Fi-Gate has amazing Star Trek guests, though…”
A long and colorful scarf was wrapped around his neck and a deep red cravat necktie peeked out of the hem of a plaid design vest, combined with a single-breasted brown coat and a pair of grey pants.
“I can't believe you would really choose the Captains of the Enterprise panel over my emotional stability,” she frowned, paying zero attention to the cosplayer in a trenchcoat with a pair of black wings attached to their back she was about to brush past.
When the feathers smacked her cheek she pulled back, the tips of her umbrella almost poking the tall guy dressed as Doctor Who in the eye; the sudden movement startled the cosplayer and a rapid swing of their dark wings created a commotion in the crowd of people waiting for their turn to order. In the confusion that followed, a random shoulder bumped into yours and pushed you out of the line and off the sidewalk, right in front of the Fourth Doctor - who was struggling to maintain his Fedora in place and watch where he was going at the same time.
Needless to say, he ended up failing at both.
“Oh my God, are you okay?” the blond woman asked.
“I’m so sorry, SO SO SORRY—” the tall guy apologized simultaneously and she cut him off, rushing to your side.
“Are you alright? Are you hurt?”
The frantic exchange prompted your brain to whoosh into light speed mode to elaborate and discharge the ‘Ah, shit!!’ and ‘wait… is this iced macchiato?!?!’ inputs in favor of a more suitable reaction at the sight of the considerable amount of caffeine soaking your hoodie.
“... I think I’m okay.”
“First-aid manuals suggest removing all clothes or jewelry near the affected area within moments after the spillage of a hot liquid,” the tall guy said, and the woman gasped in shock.
“Please tell me you didn’t get burned! Once I got this non-fat steamed white chocolate vani—”
“I’m fine,” you growled a bit.
Someone behind you was snickering and, despite the relief of not having sustained serious injuries, the attention was already making you feel uncomfortable.
“Scalds are caused by sources of humid heat and certain types of fibers retain the water, which can be responsible for additional damage to the skin,” the tall guy explained again, speaking faster than anyone you had ever heard.
You tucked your shirt in your jeans and raised an eyebrow in his direction. “Let me guess: you’re a doctor.”
“Well… uhm, yes, this is my…” he faltered, unable to tell if you were referencing his costume as a pun or not. “I am, actually.”
“Not that kind of doctor,” the woman added.
She sighed as soon as she realized you were standing there speechless, drenched in coffee, your gaze wandering back and forth between them. “I’m so sorry…”
“They should be more careful with the lids. I think I got lucky,” you muttered through gritted teeth as you pulled the zip down.
Thanks to the decision to splurge some money on yourself, earlier on, you had something to replace your soiled hoodie with. The Fourth Doctor looked away and focused his attention on the cups he was still holding in his hands; before he threw them in the nearest trashcan he inspected their content, confirming he’d fortunately spilled on you a combination of 98% half-caf iced caramel macchiato and just 2% regular hot americano.
The woman was still clasping the handle of her umbrella. “Listen, we were about to check out this itsy-bitsy lovely Indian place ‘round the corner, maybe you should come with us. You know… to try and get cleaned up a little.”
You dug into the shopping bag at your feet, taking a sealed package out to rip the plastic film wrapped around a brown sweatshirt with a stylized front print of the panoramic view of the desert, Jabba the Hutt’s palace and twin suns on Tatooine, and put it on.
“No offense, but my parents taught me to never follow strangers.”
“None taken,” the tall guy replied, “they were absolutely right. According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, about 90,000 individuals are reported missing in the U.S. every year and the National Institute of Justice estimates that approximately 4,400 unidentified bodies are recovered annually.”
For the second time in less than five minutes, you considered the possibility he could truly be from Gallifrey. You also wondered if he was aware of his perfect facial structure: everything about his demeanor indicated he wasn’t too skilled in the art of charming people using his sculpted jawline and lean figure.
“... do you always quote statistics about murders and kidnappings like it’s a casual topic of conversation?”
His eyes got even bigger, showing a hint of gold on the inside. “It was merely an observation—”
“Yeah, he… does that,” the woman came to his rescue, “and even if it sounds bad, trust me it’s- it's part of his job. Our job. Except, I don’t deal with the scary, disturbing, yucky stuff.”
Your question wasn’t meant to come out in such a sarcastic tone. “You’re cops?!”
“FBI. Tech Analyst and Behavioral Analysis Unit,” she explained, and the tall guy waved a silent greeting at you.
Even though the chance of running into the Bureau personnel stationed in D.C., at some point, wasn’t unreasonable, ‘two FBI agents walk into a multifandom convention dressed as characters from sci-fi TV shows’ could have easily been the beginning of a bad joke.
Plus, it was hard to picture the Fourth Doctor as a G-Man. “What’s your Ph.D. in, exactly?”
“I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics. And Chemistry, and Engineering. And I hold BAs in Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy.”
“Google him. Spencer Reid, B-A-U,” the woman suggested after a short pause, in response to your skeptical expression.
Judging by her tone she was daring you to, as if the situation wasn’t already giving off major The Twilight Zone vibes… and yet, instead of bidding them an unenthusiastic farewell, you pulled out your phone to type his name.
A plethora of results popped on the screen seconds later, so you first clicked on the link titled BAU’s newest member.
“With three doctorate degrees from Caltech already, and a staggering IQ of 187 as well as an eidetic memory there is no psychological exam or test the FBI could put in front of him he could not ace,” the piece said about newly-recruited Spencer Reid.
“When I ask why he chose Caltech over MIT and Stanford, he quickly runs down a list of Professors he had a desire to study with. He makes no mention of the weather or girls,” an older article reported.
You skipped through at least a dozen mentions of SSA Reid’s outstanding performances in the field, then a PDF document, property of the California Institute of Technology, caught your interest and you read the title aloud.
“Identifying non-obvious relationship—”
“Non-obvious relationship factors using cluster-weighted modeling and geographic regression,” he recited by heart, “that's my Engineering dissertation.”
He was too prepared on the subject and too adorably peculiar to be an impostor posing as a genius FBI agent for kicks, during the weekend; you picked his Fedora off the ground as a peace offering.
“Seems like you’re a wunderkind, Doctor Reid.”
Spencer lowered his chin so he could mask the rush of blood to his cheeks and his friend giggled, gently linking arms with you.
“Now, there’s something relevant we need to discuss, pronto… how do you feel about veg biryani?”
Tumblr media
An hour and a half proved to be all the time you needed to form a solid conviction that Spencer Reid going on a spiel about the original blueprints of a fictional space station was the best thing since sliced bread.
“It’s part of the iconic imagery Lucas wanted to establish, there’s no health and safety. And don’t forget it was originally designed by the Geonosians.”
You snorted at the mention of the classic ‘designed by a flying alien species’ argument. “That’s not an excuse! Even if the Geonosians designed it, they knew it was meant to be used by humanoid creatures.”
After leaving the restaurant, where you had insisted on paying for your share - much to Garcia's dismay, you’d walked back to the convention center’s parking lot and now you were waiting by your car for Penelope to get hers. As you had recently discovered, she loved mugs, old Italian movies and playing the ukulele; Spencer wasn’t as outgoing and chatty, especially about his private life, but Star Wars was for sure one of his numerous areas of expertise.
“TIE fighters don’t have a proper defense system and the original prototype even lacked structural integrity to support atmospheric flight. The Empire doesn't care about casualties, it’s safe to think they never bothered to install a guardrail or other appropriate safety measures because to them the Death Star technicians are expendable.”
“Okay… solid theory,” you admitted, making him smile as he wiped his forehead to get rid of a lock of curly hair.
“Thank you. It’s nice to have a discussion with someone who knows about the Geonosians. Or the Death Star. It only happened twice but I’ve had people asking me what that was.”
When the convertible Cadillac with a plastic Hawaiian lei tied to the rear-view mirror stopped inches from you, Garcia - behind the steering wheel - proudly gestured at the extension of her eccentric personality.
“Meet Esther. Isn’t she fab?”
You wolf whistled your appreciation, gliding your fingertips over the leather upholstery and orange body paint. “Quick question: how much do you think I’d get if I sued two FBI agents for… damages, let’s say?!”
Penelope produced a fluffy pen out of the glove compartment and scribbled something on the back of a PetMAC receipt she handed it to you.
“Sweet pea, if I were you I'd settle for a lifetime of free IT support.”
“I’ll take it,” you said, “I’m kind of tired of being bullied by my own laptop.”
She stared at you for a moment before her face lit up, like a girl on a trip to a four-story candy shop. “... have you ever been to Baltimore ComicCon?!” she asked out of the blue while Spencer plopped himself down on the passenger seat.
You shook your head. “Do you guys—”
“We should totally go together!!” Garcia proposed. Or rather, declared.
In all honesty, the prospect of attending another convention on your own was depressing and you’d given up on the one in Maryland for that specific reason; you turned to Spencer for his approval, too, and he nodded, maybe because he knew there was no way of stopping Garcia if she had her mind set on a specific goal.
“Baltimore it is, then…?!”
Penelope shot you a smug grin. “Keep in touch. We still owe you a nice dinner and ComicCon’s not up until September, I’d hate to run a background check on your license plate to find you.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at the idea and saluted them goodbye as they drove off, Esther’s taillights shining bright red.
What a weird Saturday. Meeting a real life genius and the quirkiest FBI agent ever came with a price, and one of your favorite hoodies was most likely beyond salvaging. You needed to know if Spencer Reid was well worth it.
Garcia’s words then echoed in your ears, so you sat in your car and unlocked your phone, scrolling through the most recent Google searches: you had a lot of reading to do.

The Dreaded Sound of the Alarm.
We laid still like two sleeping pillars. It almost as if this is all a ruse. It can’t be real. Having a hard time fathoming that this is the last time I will watch the rise and fall of his chest in the pale morning light, urges me to hold on tight and feel the rhythm of his thumping heartbeat beneath his ribcage. I didn’t think it could possibly beat harder and faster than mine is right now. But it is, and I feel his sense of urgency and panic, as we’re running out of time, and there is nothing you can do except watch the time slip between your fingers like sand in an hourglass.
So um.... I had a bit of a weird scenario in my head so wrote something out of it. There are so many unfinished chapters I wanna publish but whatever- for now enjoy this very mediocre one!
Read here.

So over the next few weeks it’s the Christmas holidays so I’ll have some time away from work and I should, theoretically, have some more time on my hands.
So with that in mind, I thought I would post my rules for requests, as I’d love to get as many things written as possible over the next few weeks!
I love receiving requests, so if you have any ideas then please do send them my way!
——————————————————————————
Rules for requests
I will write for Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, Jamie Hewlett and Liam Gallagher (I’m not against writing for Noel though, so if you have a request for him please send it in and if I feel able to do it I will.
I’m happy to write under pretty much every genre (smut, fluff, angst etc)
When requesting please give as much detail as possible as I really struggle to read between the lines! More detail especially with smut, I really struggle with requests that just say ‘Damon Albarn smut’ as unless I’ve got an idea, then I’ve no idea what to write!
I can’t think of anything I’m uncomfortable writing about, however, if I receive a request which I feel uncomfortable about or I don’t believe I will be able to do it justice, then I won’t write it
Please be patient, I try to write requests as quickly as I can! But I am a bit slow recently, unless a request really captivates me!

Note
do u have any specific rules for requests on gorillaz characters?
Yes actually, mostly about Noodle:
- I write for 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and Cyborg Noodle. No one else! (That includes Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn).
- In headcannons requests, you can only request up to 3 characters.
- I write fluff.
- I do write NSFW content but not for characters under consenting age (in my country 16 is the age of consent).
Eg: I can write NSFW for an older Noodle, but not a young Noodle.
- I can still write for young Noodle though. Mostly just fluff though (also be specific on what age you want her to be).
- I also don’t write for relationships where one can legally consent but the other can’t (aka pedophilia).
- Even though I don’t write character x character, I still want to say that I will absolutely not write Noodle in a relationship with any of the other band members. I don’t care if she is old enough to consent now, that would be grooming and I do not support or encourage grooming or molestion whatsoever.
- You can ask me to write about the albums too or Plastic Beach.
- My writing for Noodle and Russel isn’t great, sorry 😐
There all the rules I can think of write now.
I am a big fan of Gorillaz and would love to start writing for them. Also if anyone wants to just talk about the band my messages are always open!

Kiss of Death | Jamie Hewlett (Blurb)
Tumblr media
REQUEST for @lundenloves - this was SO fun and thank you for answering all of my questions about how you invisioned this. I know I got a little derailed from the orginal request to my apologies and I hope you enjoy!
A/N: this was supposed to be short, but some how it's 5.3K words lol. It also wasn't orginally supposed to be smut, but here we are. I'm moving slowing through requests and with writing in general, but I'd love to do a part two with this as I took some things out/moved things around so lowkey it does call for it, but idk when I'll get to it so Thank You for the infinite patients (mostly) everyone has lol! Also, if you ever read my a/n's you know how I feel about smut (aka not my strong suit and not the easiest for me to write) so please be kind haha. Also as always lack of proof reading and rushed ending. Enjoy!
Warnings: SMUT 18+ - it gets explicit so be prepared for anything involving sex, ANGST, divorce/separation, cursing, therapy, fluff if you squint, talk of PPD, mentions of pregnancy/having children, smoking, etc etc + things related to these topics that I might be forgetting to add
"We've been separated for a little over a year now."
Grace had never said it aloud until now. Maybe it was because it didn't feel that long to her. Or maybe because some days it felt much, much longer. Through this separation, she learned time functioned differently and it could change within an instant. It all depended on things out of her control. She thought, in the beginning, she was in control of the situation and herself, but as time went on it only proved that no matter what she would never truly be in control the way she desperately needed to be.
"Why start therapy now, then?"
Grace looked around her, already avoiding eye contact with the qualified looking professional in front of her. She had always been resistance and skeptical of professional help especially when it involved Jamie. Vulnerbility was never her friend which Jamie knew all too well as he too went to speak for the both of them:
"She kissed me-
"He kissed me-
Jamie and Grace's sentences overlapped, causing the therapist's eyebrows to raise slightly while the two in the room shared an angry glance and stayed in their standoff. They were sitting closer than they should have been for people who were supposed to be put off by each other. However, they didn't sit closely out of love for one another, everything they did down to body language was from a point of pride.
Accustomed to the behavior before her, the therapist continued with her questions, "Were things going well before this kiss?"
It was a question that repeated over and over in both Jamie and Grace's heads. They clearly didn't work. They functioned. It was going. Life was still happening around them. But it was draining and both of them were barely hanging on and they both refused to admit it to the other. Grace found pride that she was able to hide it better whereas Jamie was able to be quieter about it. Any way one put it, it all but worked.
"No answer," the doctor noted to herself and in her notebook. Grace was starting to sweat, but she stayed planted. If Jamie wasn't going to answer, neither was she, "Let me rephrase then...What was the turning point that caused this kiss?"
Jamie hiccuped, holding himself upright against the door frame as he  tried to steady himself enough to speak, "C-couldn't remember the way back  to my place..."
Through a practiced eye-roll, Grace held the door open for him only to leave him to his own device. She felt anger bubbling through her chest due to another night where Jamie had some sort of excuse to show up unannounced. With each stair step, she pushed her feelings down, leaving them for later for now she needed to focus on cleaning up for the night.
She had just finished her daughter's bedtime routine and just put her down for the night. She half-expected Jamie to wake her up to say hello, but tonight his attention was on his ex. He watched from the hall as she sat on the toilet seat her knees pressed against the side of the tub, reaching for the plug to let the water swirl down. Jamie staggered in after her into the small space and  instantly sat with his back to the tub to let his legs stretch out on the bathroom floor.
"I miss bath time?" He asked through hooded eyelids as he leaned his head back onto the tub to look up at her.
"Yeah..." She responded absentmindedly as she continued to clean up the area, placing all of the toys back on the rim of the bathtub.
Despite their daughter being a photocopy of Grace, she was definitely Jamie's daughter.  Her mannerisms, even at her young age, mimicked his to a tee. Even now as Jamie's head rolled to no longer rest on the tub, but onto Grace's knee it reminded her of their daughter and the way she would always roll into her affection. With her daughter, it was easy to welcome it and reciprocate, but coming from Jamie made her feel queasy.
Jamie looked up at her fondly, finding the way she moved mesmerizing. She'd be lying if she didn't enjoy the added weight on her leg, her uneasiness calming with each passing minute. But they could only stay in this position for so long.
"I'm surprised you're not kicking me out," Jamie thought aloud.
Even though she smiled, her words were still flat, "Me too."
Any other night, he wouldn't have made it past the door so he inherently followed her lead. It was a bad idea on both parts, but they both needed the company regardless of how tense it could get.
Jamie trailed behind into the hallway again, her back to him as she pulled her hair down and ruffled it letting out the same sigh she would after taking her bra off after a long day. His eyes took her body in, she looked so domestic in the most positive way. With bare feet, she padded into her room, stretching slightly to help rid herself of any lingering tension. Jamie stood by the door watching as she readied herself for bed by pulling her jeans off. They fit her snugger than they had before their daughter, but he loved the way her body evolved to create who she was today.
"You hear me?" She called out to him as she pulled back the sheets and slid into them.
He stayed quiet, eyes now on hers as he shook his head. They were both out of words to exchange as she looked back at him as she lay on her side. She was prepared to fall asleep right there and then, not caring about anything but getting off her feet.
It wasn't until she felt the bed beside her dip that she opened her eyes. Jamie could be predictable at times, and this was one of them. It felt normal for him to simply join, no questions asked and certainly, no words spoken. She didn't protest as rolled onto her back with her arms open for him to sigh deeply as he melted into her hold.
Even when they were together and angry resulting in someone sleeping on the couch, Grace always slept better when he was under the same roof. The house was meant for all of them and when they weren't all there it made it worse. She always dreaded the weekends when she'd been on her own. It was too quiet.  She was being selfish or maybe the exhaustion had caught up to her, but she allowed her hand to thread in his hair to twirl it the way he loved.
"Jamie..." She said his name as she pulled his head back slightly by his hair.
He was two steps ahead of her, knowing exactly what she was asking and responding with a kiss. His body was already slotted between her legs making it easy for him to hover above her the way he'd been imaging for a while. As for Grace, she'd never felt like this before.  She didn't know that she could feel an ache so deep inside her and be so completely aware that the only cure for it is the touch of another person.  A specific person. At this moment, she felt like he was her person.
Jamie's hands moved on their own accord, pulling the hem of his shirt over his head before tossing it aside, giving Grace the time to do it for herself.  The two took their time to be settled between each other until Jamie's hands slid down Grace's now bare stomach. One hand went to grip her thigh, while the other sandwiched itself in the space between her pelvis and his. His fingertips could already feel the heat radiating from her clothed core. He rubbed two fingers against the soaking fabric. He pulled away from her lips, but stayed close, ghosting his mouth over hers to say, "You're soaked."
But before Grace can reply with anything, Jamie pushed aside her underwear and pushed his fingers as deep as he could. The relief Grace found was instantaneous.  A breathless sigh slipped past her lips as he rubbed over her folds, delighted with the fluttering breaths she was letting out. Despite the tension building up in her body, this is the most relaxed she'd felt in days. The attention he was paying to her body was like no other.
Jamie knew how her core was soon going to convulse in the most delightfully sinful way, making him harder than he'd think was ever possible. He wanted to feel her completely and wholly, but he needed to see how he could make her feel with just his hands. He wanted a taste, he wanted to hold, he wanted to suck, he wanted to bite, he wanted to squeeze, he wanted to do anything and everything that had to do with her.
Grace, though, all she wanted was Jamie to fill her up so completely that she'd be feeling him for days, "Jamie I need you."
It went quick, his movements stopping, leaving her empty, and pulling back. Grace worried that it was time to come to their senses, but before she could finish her thought she could feel Jamie's wet kisses on her thighs. He was craving her at this point, selfishly not being able to give her what she was asking for. He kissed the inside of her thigh once more as he gets settled in  between them pulling her underwear off so his arms  could hook around both thighs to pull her closer.
Her hips twitched in the slightest movement, Jamie's eyes darted up to hers  for a moment before he dove in, tongue licking at every part of her   that ached for him. Her lips parted, eyes shutting in pure bliss as he got to work, lips closing in on her clit to gently suck. Then, his still warm fingers returned to work in and out of her like no tomorrow, she was sure to be done in minutes. He continued to skillfully work his mouth and fingers in her heat as she moaned deeply, beginning to see stars and feel warm. As predicted, it didn't take long for Jamie to coax her through and down from a powerful orgasm.
Once it was still again, Jamie smiled to himself pleased with her pleasure. He was ready to dive in for more, wanting to feel again how her fingers tugged his hair tenderly. But she couldn't help but beg him again, "Jamie, please."
Her wish was his command. Especially when she said his name the way she did. Jamie always got pleasure in her pleasure, so now as her legs were spread wide open just for him, it was his absolute bliss.
Jamie wasted no time kicking the rest of his clothes to the side  so he could drag the tip of his cock along her slick core.  The moment  he filled her for the first time in a long time, there was a  feeling of  completeness that she'd been missing.  She needed this, she  thought.   She needed to be stretched, to be filled. She meant to hold  her in her  mewl, but she only had so much control when she was  underneath Jamie.
Yet, Jamie based everything off on her as he asked,  "This okay? Do you want me to stop?"
"God, no."
Neither  admitted it to the other, but it had been a long time for the both to be in the position with anyone, let alone each other.  Their pleasure   was quickly building as Jamie began to push his hips towards her finding  the perfect ryhtm within a few thrusts. Her  tone's softness was making  his head dizzy. She could feel his tip  pulsate inside of her. He was  trying hard to last as long as he could,  but with one flex of her  muscles, he was a moaning mess on top of her as  he finished inside of  her. Jamie collapsed on top of her, his heart pounding out of his chest. He wasn't sure if it was through passion or embarrassment.
"Sorry I just miss-
"You're alright," She spoke over his confession with honesty. She loved the feeling, being able to feel him and how she now had something of his to hold onto which prompted her to say, "Let's just stay like this for a moment."
"No answer," the therapist said, trying her best to not show her annoyance with the two, "So I'm supposed to believe nothing happened after you invited him to stay?"
"Invite is a strong way to put that," Grace scoffed, eyes finally finding the therapist's to defend herself, "Drunk Jamie is impossible to get through to. Trust me it's easier to just let him-
"You make it sound like I was wasted," Jamie cut in, annoyed at how his image was being described,  "I was tipsy at most-
"So you had clear intentions going into that night, then?" The doctor took her turn to talk, eyes now pointed at Jamie. Grace felt a sense of relief now that the attention was on the same question she wanted an answer to.
"I went to see my daughter," Jamie answered through a slightly frustrated sigh although everyone in the room could see right through him, "But she was already asleep. She's very hard to get to bed."
"A daughter," The doctor noted, then questioned, "Do you have more kids?"
"No," Jamie answered.
"Do you want more children?"
"We used to you," Grace answered.
They always talked about a family. The more the merrier, but it was always something hypothetical and always for their future selves. But they spoke it into existence earlier than they should have.
"I mean currently," the doctor clarified, "Do either of you want more children?"
"Considering our daughter wasn't planned and we're no longer..." Grace trailed off, not wanting to finish her sentence in front of everyone.  It felt too permanent.
"I don't mean between the two of you," The doctor had to clarify again, "Do either of you picture a future that doesn't intertwine? Lives separate from each other?" "It's hard to imagine since we share a child," Jamie was quick to respond, as if afraid to think of another option.
"And you? Grace?"
Grace was surprised by Jamie's candor. He seemed to be welcoming this discussion better than she was. For her, it felt that with each minute, the walls were coming closer and closer to her.
"No answer...I know this environment can be intimidating for some, but it is inherent that we  start somewhere," She said before pulling her glasses off to place them to the side like she had her pen to say, "Tell me, what do you believe was the reason for the separation?"
"Don't you want to know why we kissed?" Grace tried not the bite back, but her walls were quickly building up. She didn't want to go back, remember all that happened. They were past that, she hoped. The kiss she could handle, but the separation was an ongoing story.
"Not really, no," The   woman crossed her legs to lean back comfortably, "It's clear you care   for each other even if you don't say it. It's only natural if it doesn't  work verbally to manifest physically. Honestly, I'm surprised it   didn't go any further."
"It did."
"Jamie!" Grace scolded quickly as she felt the blood rush to the tips of her ears. Jamie always did have a different approach to their sex life than she did. She kept it all to herself, for herself to enjoy even in memory. But Jamie was the type who needed to talk about it, share it, laugh about it which more often than not made Grace cringe.
"Grace, you hold your cards close to your chest which I can respect.  However, this information needs to be shared if you want to progress-
"I know," She cut her off, becoming fed up with the way Jamie and the therapist were acting. In reality, she knew they were only trying to help but at the moment she felt like it was two against one so the only thing on her mind was to retaliate, "I didn't say anything because he came in less than two seconds and I'd barely count that as anything."
"Does that bother you?" The therapist directed toward Grace.
"She asked me to stay and said..." Jamie had no issue exposing her. In retrospect Grace could see how he was trying to be honest, but she was convinced he said this just to push the attention off of him and keep it off of him, "...That she wanted-No-, needed to feel me."
"Do you feel you need Jamie? Or did you need relief?"
Grace's mouth felt glued shut, refusing to answer again. She felt betrayed by Jamie. It was true, she needed him. She tried 'relief' with other people, but she could never follow through and her hands could only do so much. The doctor looked at Grace, deciding not to press further and work with what was laid out in front of her.
"Let me be blunt," The doctor spoke clearly, causing Grace to shudder with slight fear, "You came in here telling me you don't want to be in a relationship, yet neither of you has had sex with other people. That's psychologically considered a relationship."
"We're not together."
"Tell me, then," She said, "How was the following morning?"
Grace woke up to him holding her tightly. He was always a light sleeper so she knew she only had so much time to take his image in before his eyes would flutter open. Jamie lived for aftercare, even if was the following morning so once he was conscious enough, his hands already began trailing her body.
"Tea?" Jamie asked softly, through a voice that dripped with exhaustion.
"In a minute," She hummed as his hand scratched softly down her back. Grace knew where this was going and she wanted nothing more. They just had to wait each other out as if being polite before truly attaching once again.
He watched her carefully, once again trying his best to follow her energy. He wanted her. He wanted to last for her. And he wanted her to know,  "I could stay like this all day."
"Really?" She asked him through humor. Her smile was soft, matching his as both of their eyes fluttered down to each other's lips.
"Really." He confessed unintentionally moving closer to her.
Much to his disappointment, she detached herself from him swiftly and borderline playfully. It was still a part of the act, a soft form of foreplay. Jamie loved how simply it was playing out. He could make out every curve of her body as she confidently walked in front of him in search of clothes. She knew what she was doing, bending over without anything on. She wished she felt shy, but as his eyes went over every inch of her body, her confidence only swelled.
Her body was absolutely divine to him. He was devoted to her body. She had always been beautiful, without a doubt, but there was just something about her current natural state that absolutely took his breath away.
"C'mere."
His eyes were heavy from bliss and the little bit of sleep that had yet to wear off. Both of their decisions were quick as their lips found each other for a lazy kiss. Grace dropped the forgotten shirt on the floor the minute Jamie pulled her on top of him. Lazy morning kisses turned into needy ones, slumber-weighted fingers curled in each other's messy hair. Grace's leg raised to curl over his hip as he slotted his thigh between her legs, one hand resting on her lower back as the other coasted up her body.
Jamie could only last so long before asking,  "Will you let me feel you again?"
Grace answered with a searing kiss as she rubbed her soaked center against him showing him the intense desire she had.  Yet she pulled away, eyes dropping to where the two of them were rubbing against one another. Her eyes fleeted back up to look at him, his gaze still watching the sinful scene as she ground down onto him.
Just as he was about to move forward, she lifted herself, allowing her breasts to hang freely and feel Jamie's warm sigh of want against her skin. It was an unintentional distraction for him as he let out a deep moan the moment she took hold of him, lifting her hips just enough to have him at her entrance.  He watched as she slowly took him, pussy fluttering around his generous tip, her jaw-dropping in a silent, fulfilled moan. His hands were down at her hips, thumbs rubbing soothing circles into her skin. She continued her journey down his length, one hand resting on his shoulder as the other gripped his thigh.
"Fuck, you were made for me..." His words came out through a breathy laugh that made her whimper and eyes close with ecstasy. She cursed when she finally took all of him, hips snug against him as she dived into pleasure.
She drew her hips up, allowing Jamie to watch the way his cock glistened in her arousal, just to watch as he slowly thrust up into her. His eyes trailed back up her body as they gradually picked up their pace, impatient to take it any slower. Grace looked down at him with glossy eyes, chest rising and falling with heavy breaths.
Jamie felt like he couldn't get close enough. As they moved in tandem, he sat up, pressing their chests together sucking on all of her open flesh, needing to feel and taste every part he could. He could feel how she was getting close and so could she, but they both needed more.
"Jamie, wait hold on," Grace's words betrayed her as she wanted to hold onto every thrust. Jamie, however was worried something was wrong, stilling his movements, but still twitching anxiously inside of her.
"Do you want me to stop?" It was a silly question to Grace, the answer always being no.
"I don't want you to stop," She breathed desperately as she pulled back until her body detached from him. It was almost painful how empty she felt in the few second it took for her  settle on her forearms and feel the cool air on her behind, "I want you to hold me down."
"W-what?"
"Fuck me hard Jamie," She spoke clearly, pushing her hair out of the way to look back at him.
Grace swore  he mumbled a 'fuck' under his breath as he settled behind her. Jamie bent over her naked back and planted kisses from the bottom of her spine to between her shoulder blades before blindly nudging her entrance again sliding into her inch by inch. Jamie wasn't sure why at a time like this he was taking his time to tease, but Grace knew that he wanted it to last as long as possible. His grip was gentle, but Grace loved the control he had. It's so different from the way she usually saw him.
His voice is calm, level, bringing her back to earth, grounding her as she whined. When she couldn't take it anymore, Jamie felt her start to pull off and push back on his cock by herself only to smile to himself, "Patients, love. I'll give you what you want. Want me to fuck you?"
It was then when he finally retracted his hips only to thrust them forward, meeting her body. His pelvic bone met her ass and his hands went to her hips. She could now remember why doggy was her favorite position. The way her hips are curved perfectly fit Jamie's cock   allowing it  rub right up against her most sensitive spot with each thrust, making her head go dizzy.
His grip tightens, and she started to bite her lip hard as she rolled back again and again, listening to Jamie's short grunts and drawn out groans of pleasure. When his thrusts started to get sloppy, she could feel a hand leave her waist and snake down to her core. She wanted to moan his name when he found her clit, tell him how good he was, how good he felt. She kept it to herself as she held onto the added stimulation.
As the sounds of skin clapping illuminate the bedroom, Grace and Jamie both tried to keep your moans at bay. The last thing they needed to pop their bubble was their daughter who would be the tangible reminder of what their relationship was supposed to be.  Neither of them thought much of her, too selfishly focused on each other.
Jamie was deep inside her and she could feel the two of them battling to see who could last longer. She shifted her weight to one side so she could reach back to attach to Jamie's neck and feel his chest against her back. The slight movement and shift helped trigger Jamie's orgasm. Grace could feel his cum spurting deep into her cervix, but thought nothing of it in the moment, lost in the euphoria of her own orgasm. Her pussy was pulsing around his cock as Jamie slowed down his thrusting hips, only giving slow and deep thrusts to milk his cum from his dick.
Their bodies, joint by joint, started to collapse on one another. Jamie wasn't ready to let go of her yet. He was still trying to catch his breath when he reached down, taking a loose grip on her jaw and watching as her wide eyes flick up to meet his. Her mind was so foggy, arousal clouding every logical nerve in her body. Jamie cooed when he saw the tears that began to cloud her vision, threatening to spill at any second, "I love you."
"Was it always like that?"
"God, no," Grace chose her times to speak selfishly. It felt good to call Jamie out, even if she was the one currently being immature.
"Then, what makes this different?"
"There aren't eighteen-year-olds coming for my neck," Grace's arms crossed with her words, her normal anger returning at the thought. The woman in front of her looked more confused than ever, "He's quite popular with that age group."
"Is that a euphemism for cheating?"
"I've never cheated," Jamie spoke firmly, adjusting in his seat through agitation. This was hurting him more than she thought, "My job just attracts a certain crowd, that's all."
"Right," Grace spoke under her breath.
"So, is it safe to assume his job is part of the reason for your separation?"
"I should have never had said yes."
"Excuse me?"
"I  should have known better to say yes to the man who asks me to marry him  only days after finding out I was pregnant," Grace clarified confidently.
"Is that not what we wanted?"
"We were teenagers,  we didn't know what we wanted," She disagreed as she shook her head, her  voice full of pity, "But we knew better."
"Speak for yourself," Jamie bit back, "I knew what I wanted, I know what I want."
"What you want is a housewife, what you want is someone to dot on you. Someone to-
"I want you."
"What you want is not what I can be."
"You make it sound like I'm making you-" Jamie's voice raised slightly, but he stopped himself to not projecting as much to say, "You have the freedom to do whatever you want, the same liberties I have. If anything more than I do."
"More than you do?" She asked through a bitter laugh.
He cursed, "You act like I don't want to be a part of our daughter's life. I work to provide for the two of you."
"You get paid for the parties? For the drinking too? The drugs? All of that is tax-deductible?"
"Love-
"No, you don't get to call me that," Grace stopped him, the term of endearment making her sick, "You don't get to just fuck off when you feel like it and come back expecting everything to be the same."
"But I don't want to-
"You lost the right to have a say in this when you weren't there for me."
Grace's eyes were trained forward, her face grew passive quickly as she gave a rehearsed response, "We just grew into separate people."
"Can you elaborate?"
She shrugged as if the response was simple and obvious, "He got successful and it went  too far. He was partying and I was  putting a baby down. He was  traveling first class while I struggled to cope after the birth."
Jamie's body was getting tense, he felt like he was under scrutiny and now he didn't even know how to respond besides saying what he truly thought, "You didn't tell me how you were feeling, it would have been different if I knew."
"Don't lie, Jamie," Grace shook her head as it faced down. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and frustration, all of her emotions hitting her. This was yet another topic they rarely brought up because every time they did Grace would shut down, shut everyone out, and shut off.
Even the chose to stay doctor was quiet, everyone waited for Grace to continue.
"I could barely take care of myself," Grace spoke softly, finally having a space to just speak knowing everyone else wouldn't dare to interrupt, "I barely took care of myself. My body didn't even want to...I couldn't breastfeed...and my baby, any time I looked at her I was just filled with such...It's fine now, I relied on myself and I figured it out."
Grace's eyes pleaded the woman in front of her to drop the subject. The therapist was debating on helping her push through the topic, but with one glance to the clock on the wall Grace was saved by the bell.
"I want to thank the both of you for making the first step and showing up today," The doctor spoke evenly as Grace gave her an appreciative glance, "I look forward to working with you two next week..." She hesitated saying the next thing knowing as a professional she should have kept it to herself, but even she could feel the lingering love between the two, "Just check in with each other once in awhile."
After some soft and swift goodbye's, the pair felt like they were gasping for air once they reached outside. Naturally, Jamie's hand reached for the pocket that held his cigarette and lighter, immediately settling it between his lips and lighting it. He didn't hesitate handing it to Grace to share. It was an agreed gesture to occupy the same space for just a moment longer without the pressures of what was inside the building or the pressure of what they would have to face once they went back to their own worlds. It was a moment to pause.
A moment Jamie took to ask the question sitting in front of them, "Think we can make this work?"
"Knowing us..." She trailed off through and exhale of smoke, implying the worst.
There  was a beat of silence as she passed the cigarette back for his own   inhale. He toyed with the lit cigarette that was on it's last limb as he  asked, "You're alright, though?"
She smiled, appreciative of  his gesture. She took her own moment to look at him now as he expertly  took in the smoke and released it through his nose as she responded,  "Yeah, you?"
"Yeah."

idk if you’re taking requests or anything but i can’t stop thinking about working/being besties with jamie cause you’re an artist too and maybe u share a studio space or something and damon meets u and falls in love with you :’)))
"I think I'm in love with you." Damon Albarn oneshot
4K Words!! Your wish is my command - I know I went a little off from the request itself but I had a lot of fun writing this shout out to @lundenloves  for helping me along the way <3 !!!!!!! which if you're looking to read more Damon check out her story called "Platforms" on AO3, I cannot recommend it enough.
Hope you enjoy :))
"Christ," She cursed to herself quietly, letting go of the breath she was overly focused on holding in.
The noise of the buzzer pierced her concentration, causing the red  pigment to bleed into the blue creating a panicked swirl of purple. She  moved swiftly, pressing the button to let whoever was interrupting in  before going back to what was once in front of her. She hadn't really  listened to the way the person entered, clumsier than anyone she would  have recognized. She was accustomed to hearing Jamie's long sigh as he  would plop down in his chair, already talking about nonsense she wasn't   attached to, so much so she had almost added her customary mhmm's and oh really's.
She heard the voice before realizing who it belonged to, "Haven't seen you in a while."
She should have known, his voice being one of the most recognizable there is. Yet, as habitually as ever, she was too caught up in the way the paint was drying in front of her. She hadn't quite looked up at him yet as she tidied up quickly as if she were hiding what she was working on.
As she crumped up the old paper towels and plunged a few brushes into the same cup of dirty water, she could see in her peripheral Damon moving towards her with ease. The space itself welcomed him better than she ever could.
"Damon," She greeted finally with a kind smile, "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for your counterpart," He matched her smile once he saw her eyes.
"He's hard to track down these days," She agreed with his sentiment, "I've been here for the past few months and I'm starting to think he won't come around at all."
"Think he's cheating on us?" Damon chided.   He had almost missed her slight flush as she was doing a tremendous job at keeping her shock at bay, but as she continued to busy herself he knew his sudden appearance caused some sort of ripple.
"Oh, absolutely," She commented back before her motions halted almost suddenly to say, "I didn't know you'd be out here..."
"I'm meeting Jamie, actually," Damon said, pulling a hand from his pocket to look at his phone as if about to show her proof, "We're working on something."
"Gorillaz?"
He nodded his head and said, "Can't tell anyone though."
She mimed her lips being sealed before going over to the window to open it, the situation unintentionally warming her. She would have liked a warning that a guest would be coming to the studio. It had been months of just her and the countryside interacting with an occasional pop-in from Jamie. He was kind enough to lend her his extra space while her's was being fumigated but busy enough to not stay with her. But it wasn't the unexpected guest who threw her off it was how the interaction started almost identical to how the two had met.
He was trying to hold back his love, but lost easily as the words fumbled out, "I think I'm in love with you."
"I tend to have that effect,"  She mused through the cigarette between her lips as she held open the door for him, "I promise it's just the tattoos."
At the time, she had no idea of the sincerity of his confession. She believed it was only because she had answered the buzzer that allowed him to enter. She also believed that his intoxication helped. For better or for worse, she couldn't decide as they stepped further into the dark studio.
"You know," Damon started loudly, only to realize his volume and adjust, "I've seen you around here."
"Yeah," She confirmed absentmindedly at the start of small talk, something she detested, "Jamie has downstairs, I've got upstairs."
"You're an artist too?" He asked with surprisingly genuine interest, "I thought maybe you and Jamie..."
Everyone thought that. They thought that for years as Jamie and her were attached at the hip throughout art school and even now finding a way to be around each other when they've got drastically different things going on in their lives. He was successful and she was still finding her momentum, but through whatever stage they were in they'd be by each other's sides. Naturally, that lead to those around them to always assume the same thing; they were an item.
So, through practiced speech, she responded, "Just friends."
"Noted." Damon smiled at this as if it was the best news he had received in a very long time.
"What was it you needed?" She tried to get back to the point as she felt watched his eyes linger on her art, something she forgot to move from Jamie's part of the studio. However, it helped remind her that she was in the middle of something and didn't exactly plan on entertaining a stranger, at least for much longer.
"It's escaped me at the moment," Damon laughed lightly, scratching the back of his head effectively ruffling his hair as if somehow that'd help bring the task back, "It was something to do with Jamie, maybe?...Maybe...No, it's gone."
"Want me to call you a taxi, then?"
She took his exit up the stairs as a no. She wanted to say she regretted letting him in, but she was intrigued to see how far his antics would go especially within her space. Usually, her space wouldn't allow others to enter as everything was always messy and scattered. But she was going through a dry period, everything was tidy. It was only tidy due to her procrastination. She took all day organizing, cleaning, and anything that could be an excuse to not work.
There were commission pieces she should have been working on, but she always hated commission pieces. It was the nature of her work though. When there was no work or creativity happening it was much easier to open it up to those who knew what they wanted. The same way Damon knew what he wanted to find when his eyes scanned over her space. It was authentically her and that's when he knew his confession just moments ago was one of the most earnest things he'd ever said. The following being the second:
"You really are-"  Damon drew in a breath, his words clearly meshing together due to his stupor, but he worked through it as best he could only to repeat his earlier confession, "I love you."
"Are you trying to flirt with me?" She asked through pure confusion, finding his words to be an unorthodox way to come onto someone. She couldn't figure him out yet and struggled to understand his intentions. Sure, he was acting in character for the way she had understood him through the context of the media and Jamie, but a wild-card was still a wild-card.
"I wasn't," He answered bluntly and honestly causing her to blush softly, "But since you asked, is it working?"
She ignored him, watching how he moved through the studio. She'd seen him around too but never bothered to interact with him put off by his so-called charm. Only once had she asked Jamie about him and Jamie laughed her off almost immediately, telling her that Damon and she would be like oil and water. Yet, up until this moment, he hadn't seemed so bad.
"I'll take that as a not yet," Damon continued the one-sided conversation, eyebrow raised and eyes still on her.
He knew what it meant to invite someone into a space meant for only you, meaning she couldn't have been that put off by him, but he knew he was treading on thin water. At a moment's notice, all of what was in front of him could vanish and it all depended on her.
But he couldn't help but continue, "This isn't all you, is it?"
"The space? Yeah..." She confirmed simply, shaking off any previous self-consciousness. She could have left it as a simple answer, but her throat was starting to get dry with her own lack of reciprocation, or at least that's what she told herself in order to continue, "...I mean I technically rent from Jamie but-
"No, I mean- It's all the same," He said as looked down to pick up some stacks of linen canvas to see what was under only to see variations of the same thing.
"Well-uh-" Her eyebrows scrunched together trying to figure out what he meant. She felt quick to defend herself, her guard naturally going up now that her art was the subject being shared between the two, but she left it at that to see if it would develop into an insult or if it was plain commentary.
He thought she'd say more, so when he looked up to find her looking at him expectantly he looked back down at her work to comment, "It's all very distinctly you, but it's all...safe."
She laughed. But she was quick to cut it short as his head snapped up to catch it. It wasn't loud or strong, it was barely there as if the laugh itself was her own realization that she could let her breath go with him.
"Something funny?"
"You is all," Her eyes lingered on him like an old friend.
"You don't know me," He mused with a broad smile.
"I know enough."
"What lies has Jamie told you?"
"What hasn't he told me?"
"You ask about me?" His eyes threatened to twinkle thinking he caught her but he soon stumbled when he heard her laugh again.
"You of all people should know how Jamie loves to complain."
"Ah," Damon leaned back on an empty space of the desk to see how she'd barely moved from the doorway from the start of their conversation, "He's quick tight-lipped about you "
"It's not the same," She moved to him, slightly nudging him out of the way without actually making contact. She spread out the canvases so he could see how they all formed one large piece.
"I stand corrected."
"Partially," She sighed as she cocked her head, eyes glued to what was laid out in front of her, "It is safe. I've been having a block lately and this is in fact...safe."
She admitted it out loud for the first time and let alone to herself. It was hard to watch Jamie flourish and to stay stagnant beside him. Of course, she was proud of his success but she was still waiting for her break.
"Does that bother you?"
She just eyed him for a moment. In this short interaction she caught on quickly he'd much rather fill the silence than sit in it. He was trying to dangle the fruit in front of her face but she was far too interested in the serpent in front of her.
"Clearly not as much as it bothers you."
"I mean, it doesn't represent my block," He mirrored her sudden attitude, then followed with, "Why not try something new?"
"I've done that plenty, this is what I work with," She gestured to her surroundings.
"Think you could draw me?"
"Jamie's the drawer."
"Paint me then."
"I work with oils, you don't just do oils."
He looked at her, no words were needed for what was going to happen. If she wanted him gone he would have been long gone, kicked to the curb. But the way she was looking at him, the way she responded to him looking at her was a good sign.
I'll bite, she thought as she pulled out a chair for him. He simply sat he watched her unpack her space. He knew it looked too perfect to truly be hers. Her mind was also running and he knew it had to reflect that. She glided over her space arranging it in as naturally as ever. She was opening up just enough for him to see into her mind.
She didn't hesitate to move his body like she was his puppeteer. She pushed his knees together, pulled his shoulder upright for better posture, placed his hands to rest on one another, moving him into the perfect position to say, "Stay very, very still."
"Watercolors?"
"I know," She cringed at his comment while her frown agreed with his intonation, "I'm attempting to try something new."
"I like it."
"Don't lie," She smiled through her eye roll.
"It doesn't suit you," He shook his head, responding earnestly, the way she requested. Damon felt that she was always slightly out of reach for him. Whether  that was Jamie being their common denominator or that he was too afraid to change anything regarding their barely-there   relationship.  There was always something going against them. Even now, occupying the same space, the two were unsure of what to do  with each other, but Damon did his best to continue, "I saw you ended up having that gallery we talked about, I'm sorry I wasn't able to go.."
She knew what he was talking about, but she played dumb for her own sake, "Oh, right, that! That was, wow, years ago..."
This time around, he wasn't able to distinguish the underlying emotion she hid extremely well clearly from a lot more practice. If only he knew how his lack of attendance crushed her at the time.
"Surprisingly, at things like this you're actually supposed to talk to the people," Jamie poked fun at how she hung by the door.
He said he'd be here. He promised her even, yet at this point in the night, it would be pointless if he showed up as it was getting closer and closer to the end. The introductions had passed, the auction had passed, and the celebration was just about to as well. She should have known that he was just being friendly, a normal response to a half-hearted invitation. She had sat on it for days, praying he'd come around just so he could maybe overhear the biggest achievement of her life. He had done exactly that. Up until the day of her exhibit she questioned, regretted how nonchalantly she asked him to join her on such an important night and how nonchalantly he responded.
"I've made my rounds don't worry," She responded, not paying mind to Jamie too much.
Jamie saw the way her eyes couldn't stay in one place for long, always ending by the door. "Are you waiting for someone?"
Her eyes snapped to his as if that was the most offensive thing he could have said, "Of course not, just seeing if more people are coming."
"Plenty are here don't you think?" He was having trouble reading his friend. Usually, he could read her like the back of his hand, and usually when he couldn't someone else was involved and she wasn't telling him, "I'm not sure you can fit more people in."
"Jamie," She let out a quick breath, trying to figure out a smooth transition or way to ask what she really wanted to know, but decided against it and held up her empty glass to say: "Let's go find a refill, yeah?"
She cringed at the memory, at the way she believed so wholly in someone. She was young then, so she couldn't blame herself for her naivety.
"Next one you have, I'll be there," He continued, trying to uplift the suddenly sullen atmosphere.
He had promised to be there and he was. That night he lost count of how many times he walked past the gallery, but he couldn't cross the threshold for some reason. He blamed it on Jamie being there. Damon always was envious of Jamie in some fashion, but usually, it was something he could get over within a few minutes, but this, something had changed.
He knew that there was something else holding him back, maybe it was how badly he wanted to be able to experience her. However, he felt as though if he went in it would be a selfish act. He saw how the cameras were already trying to gravitate towards Jamie, she didn't need the headache of him unintentionally stealing the spotlight. She worked hard, he could see it in each piece. It was different from what he last saw, it had grown.
"Right," She smiled and nodded, everything polite and courteous just like the conversation, "Well..."
Her tone sensed the ending and welcomed it as awkward as it was, but due to the memory, Damon wasn't as ready to give up, "You've got time for a smoke?"
He had assumed her response, already having his supplies in hand, but before anything could go further she stepped in to say, "I quit, actually."
"Really?" His eyebrows raised as he tucked his lighter and carton away, respecting what she said.
"You sound surprised," She laughed lightly, "Don't tell me I've lost my appeal."
"Never," He shook his head, his tone a little too sincere.
"Damon'll be coming 'round in a few," Jamie yelled up to her.
For a moment, she thought nothing of it, but her nerves thought everything of it. She thought there wouldn't be an issue as long as she stayed in her respective space. It wasn't the first time Damon was coming around, but these days it felt more frequent. Usually, she'd let the two chat about whatever business they were doing. The only times the two had any sort of exchange was when she had to walk through Jamie's studio to leave through the front with a brief hello followed by a sudden goodbye.
Of course, she didn't have to, but it was the only thing she could think of at the moment to get her downstairs while he was there without it being blatantly obvious as to why she suddenly joined the two. But today, the reason her hands started to sweat slightly was that the last time she promised herself she wouldn't stay quiet upstairs or leave the environment altogether. She was determined to join.
She was quick to make up some sort of excuse on how she couldn't smoke on her floor, claiming the smoke and the paint simply couldn't mix. Thus making it easy for Jamie to offer his window to her. She had timed it perfectly, to already be there when Damon had arrived. She acted like a painting, hanging toward the wall, sitting on the chair in a purposefully relaxed manner as she tapped her cigarette out the window rhythmically. She wasn't really listening to what the two men talked about, but certainly paid attention to the way Damon's eyes had followed her movements as he spoke to Jamie.
Jamie wasn't blind, he saw the glances and shy exchanges between the two. He had always been a good friend to the both of them, but he was torn on whether or not to intervene. There were times Jamie thought about intervening directly, but he knew she would never forgive him if he did. So it was the little things he could help orchestrate, like offering to run out and grab lunch and taking the long way back.
It was quiet between Damon and her now that they were alone. Damon scratched the back of his head as he looked down at the papers on the desk he was just discussing, trying to hide his growing smile. She, however, stayed firm in her position. She felt that she had done enough by choosing to be down there and now the ball was in Damon's court.
He was being more boyish than she'd ever seen him before, continuing to run his fingers through his hair and move around the space tapping on various surfaces and fiddling with random objects until he came up with a question, "Mind if I bum one?"
She didn't love to smoke, but she didn't bother to stop either. It went with her image, or well the image she was trying to create for herself. Wordlessly, though, she held out her carton to him while taking another for herself. Swiftly, he flicked the cigarette from his fingers and tried to catch it between his lips only for it to bounce off his nose and hit the floor.
"That usually work?" She laughed at him lightly. Part of her was tempted to try it herself, but she just fiddled the tobacco between her fingers and then placed it behind her ear.
He laughed along with her, placing it purposefully on the edge of his lips to say, "It's a gamble each time, but I thought I was getting better."
"Performance issues are nothing to be ashamed of."
He rolled his eyes as he lit his cigarette, coming closer to blow most of his smoke out the now shared window. He crossed one ankle over the other to lean on the open window and face her fully as she stayed seated and looked up to him.
"You've been alright?" He asked cooly through an exhale of smoke, trying to cover up the fact that he was dying to know.
"Can't complain too much from the last time we chatted."
Damon was grateful for the small talk, even though he could see it was eating her alive. It was good to see that something about her hadn't changed too much. Otherwise, he could see how she had evolved, flourished into what she was today. Physically, she hadn't really changed, but she carried herself differently. It was admirable. He wondered what he looked like from her perspective. He wanted to ask what had happened in the handful of years, but like always Jamie was the one to prevent that.
"Damon-"Jamie said his name through surprise as he entered undetected by the two that had been so caught up in each other, "You're early."
"And you're a few months late," She stepped past Damon and immediately enveloped Jamie in a bone crushing hug.
She held onto him tightly as he spoke, "Sorry 'bout that, I've been so caught up-
"No worries, no worries, it's a nice surprise to see you," She said, holding onto the back of his neck to give it a squeeze before letting go and holding him at arms length only to pull him back in again.
Absence definitely made the heart grow fonder. She had missed her best friend, more than she thought she would. Their schedules never had time for another and it has been stressful to not have someone to bounce ideas off of or simply have someone beside you during periods of boredom. It only bothered her slightly he was here for Damon, but she'd take advantage of having him within arms reach.
When she finally felt like she was ready to let go again she hurriedly asked him, "How long are you here for?"
"As long as you want me to be," He told her as he pulled off his jacket and made himself comfortable in his own area.
"Come on now," She smiled at the idea, but knew it couldn't be true even though Jamie was never one to be flippant with his words.
Uncharacteristically, Damon stayed quiet during their exchange. He needed to observe the two. Observe how she reacted a lot differently to seeing someone else after a long period of time.  As for Jamie, a friend he could call an old one, never once expressed the same enthusiasm towards his presence. Granted, Jamie and Damon spent more time together than apart, but that didn't stop him from questioning the clearly different behaviors around him. Yet, in this moment all he chose to see was that something had shifted between the two best friends.
"I'm serious," Jamie confirmed, "I'll be on holiday soon and I was thinking you and I could-
"Ah," Damon expressed loudly as if realizing what had changed before he pointed between the two. He meant to keep it to himself, but it needed to be acknowledged, "I see now that you...so you two finally..."
"God no!" She practically yelled, burning at the assumption. Then she nervously let out, "I mean we kissed once when we were like what? Eighteen? Nineteen?"
"Kissed?" Damon couldn't help but ask aloud about the uncovered information.
"We were drunk," Jamie agreed with her, shaking his head, "I barely remember it myself."
The air wasn't tense, but it was definitely awkward. She didn't know why she said it, her intentions were to clear the air. The kiss truly meant nothing, it confirmed they were destined to be friends. She meant for it to be a way to tell Damon that she would never look at Jamie the way she looked at him, but her words betrayed her.

* * *
I’ve never been at such a sad party before, I thought to myself as I shifted in my seat and wondered who most people in the room even were. But when I looked around at all the unfamiliar faces across the room, I realised they were all smiling and laughing and drinking and a few of them were even dancing. The sadness I felt in the air was all coming from my left. On the far edge of the sofa sat Damon in a bundle of his own legs and arms. Both his legs were pulled up with his dirty sneakers on Jamie’s sofa cushions. His arms draped down seemingly lifeless but his left hand moved slightly. He was doodling with a black sharpie on the sole of his white shoe.
I was an old friend of Jamie and had met Damon once before. Well, met was a strong word. He hadn’t necessarily met me, which was why it made me feel very uncomfortable to strike up a conversation with him on this sofa. I didn’t know whether to introduce myself or not. What had happened was that Jamie had taken me backstage at a Blur concert in London about a year ago. Damon had walked past me and I couldn’t recall if we said hi to each other or if he had barely looked at me or if I had greeted him and he hadn’t heard me or if we had actually been introduced properly. I had had one too many drinks that night to fully remember. I knew he had walked past me anyway, because I remember vividly how beautiful he had looked in his oversized t-shirt and sweaty fringe with an acoustic guitar in his hand. Tonight he wasn’t sweating as beautifully but he was wearing a similar t-shirt and looked just as pretty with his slightly longer hair and short stubble. He was also wearing a pair of carpenter jeans that his legs were drowning in.
Despite being very much caught up in his own bubble of sneaker-doodling, he noticed me obviously looking at him from the other end of the sofa. He looked up and I impulsively smiled shyly. It wasn’t an impulse for him but he chose to smile back at me. He looked tired.
“What are you drawing?” I asked cautiously, desperate to not let our connection go to waste. I had always been intrigued by Damon’s personality and the way he steals all your attention when he talks.
“A flower,” he answered with a small chuckle. He swiftly pulled his loosely tied sneaker off and angled it so I could see it better. I hopped in a bit closer to him and took a brief but thorough look at the flower in sharpie on the side of his sole. There were a few small stars and dots surrounding it as well.
“Pretty,” I replied with another smile.
“You’re Jamie’s old friend, aren’t you?” Damon asked serenely and put his sneaker back on his foot. He hugged both of his knees and let his head lay on the backrest facing me. I nodded.
“So are you, aren’t you?” I asked with a twinkle in my eye and one in my voice. It made him laugh shortly, and quite genuinely.
“y/n,” I added quickly, awkwardly reaching my hand out to him. I didn’t want to know whether he had actually known my name or not. It would’ve made me feel terribly insignificant if it turned out he hadn’t known it.
“Right… Damon,” he said back with a bit of a twinkle in his eye and voice as well. He leaned towards me and shook my hand briefly. His grip was sturdy and his palm warm. He let go sooner than I would’ve liked, but I chased the thought away quickly as I was struck by another haunting one. I didn’t know what to say next.
“Enjoying the party?” Damon asked, looking out across Jamie’s large living room. Damon didn’t show it in his usual cool voice, but the phrase in itself was so plain and rushed that it must’ve been drawn from a desperate wish to keep talking to me and not let the conversation die.
“Don’t think I know a single person in here to be fair,” I answered honestly. I scanned the faces again. They were still smiling and laughing and drinking and some were still dancing.
“Uuuhm..” Damon said and scanned them with me. “Me neither really.”
I looked at his profile. His nose was so pretty and looked so soft from the side, and I loved  the way he tensed his brows and how his mouth hung slightly open, and his jaw was pushed forward slightly. Then he slowly licked his top lip and then his bottom lip.
“You look tired,” I said. I regretted it as soon as I heard how it sounded and was about to apologise when he answered.
“I am pretty tired,” he chuckled with a nod, looking back at me again.
“You’re blunt.” He smirked. “I like that.” His smirk faded quickly. “No one’s blunt around me anymore.”
We talked for a few minutes about how Jamie and I had become friends and then how Jamie and Damon had become friends and then eventually Jamie wasn’t part of our conversations for a while.
“Do you want to get some fresh air?” I asked, glancing at the open door that led out to the balcony. Damon nodded in silence and followed me outside.
Jamie was sat in one corner talking to two of his friends, and Damon and I chose the opposite corner. We stood facing the London streets and the lilac sky. It was June and the sun had just set. We both breathed in and sighed out the unusually clean London air at the same time.
“What?” I asked. It had been silent for a moment and this time I had caught Damon looking at me. He didn’t seem to have been caught as much off guard as I had earlier. He shrugged and thought for a moment about what to say.
“I just haven’t really.. felt like this around someone since… well, in a long time.”
He looked away. He furrowed his brows again and licked his lips in the same way he had done inside in the dim light. It was beginning to get dark outside as well, but he looked so much more beautiful out here with the lilac sky reflecting in his glossy eyes and the soft shadows falling on his face.
I didn’t know what to answer, so I changed the subject.
“The sky is beautiful..”
“Might even see some stars tonight,” Damon agreed, raising his eyebrows now. A real starry night was rare to come by in London, but there wasn’t a single cloud in sight tonight, which definitely helped with stargazing.
I saw Jamie looking at us from across the balcony. He had an almost smug look on his face. Damon announced that he was going to grab a beer from inside and he disappeared for a minute. Jamie instantly walked up to me with an amused smirk on his lips.
“What now?” I sighed.
He shrugged as if he had nothing to say - although I knew his smirking was all about mine and Damon’s sudden connection - but then he spoke at last.
“He meant since Justine, you know,” he explained Damon’s earlier words. The ones I hadn’t known how to respond to. In a similar fashion I now didn’t know how to respond to Jamie. And I had no time to, before Damon was outside again with a beer in his hand and a soft smile on his face.
