I saw a comment awhile back about Tommy Shepherd and how they didn't understand why Tommy didn't stay with the Kaplan's. they're such nice, kind people, and they felt it was wrong that Tommy didn't stay. but I can't help thinking that that was the problem. They were kind, they were nice, and they were everything Tommy didn't get.

Imagine finding out you're the reincarnated child of the Scarlet Witch, and your brother got reincarnated too! But you got shitty parents who don't care about you and didn't fight for you when you were being turned into a human weapon. Then you meet your soul twins parents, and they are kind and loving to everyone, even you, and you just can't help but wonder. Why did my twin get kind, accepting parents, and I got ones that couldn't care less? What did I do to deserve what I got? So I think the Kaplan's were nice and kind and loving, and everything that Tommy didn't get was just too much.

Random Kaplan family headcanons (P1 of ?)

Jeff and Rebecca met at the age of twenty-five. Rebecca's brother and Jeff's sister were put together by a matchmaker and decided to try and introduce the two families.

All of their sons are named after playwrights (William Shakespeare=William (Billy) Kaplan, Eugene O'Neill=Eugene (Gene) Kaplan, Samuel Beckett=Beckett Kaplan)

Billy is the oldest (nineteen), Gene is the middle child (seventeen), and Beckett is the youngest (fourteen).

Gene and Beckett are also mutants, but Eugene doesn't use his powers, and Beckett's haven't activated yet.

Jeff and Rebecca legally adopted Tommy when he was seventeen

Jeff has undiagnosed Autism. He and Rebecca agreed not to get a professional diagnosis.

Beckett is Autistic and has ADHD, Gene has dyslexia and Billy has dyspraxia and have all been diagnosed.

Gene is obsessed with dreams and sleep (like, he wants to study it at university and stuff)

Tommy likes arts and crafts and often makes bookmarks and gives them to friends as gifts. He doesn't like using hot glue guns, though.

Jeff knits to relieve stress and to keep his hands steady.

Gene does knitting and crochet, and Beckett does embroidery.

Rebecca calls herself Dr. Rebecca Oure-Klum (her maiden name) to her patients. And Jeff just tells them to call him Jeff.

Billy, Beckett, and Gene used to have a massive Minecraft world that they played on together, but now only Beckett plays on it.

Gene goes to a private boarding school for high achieving students.

Everyone at Beckett's school avoids him because of Billy and the John Kessler thing.

Beckett posts superhero fanfiction online (but never includes The Young Avengers because to him, that's weird). Jeff and Rebecca support it because they think fanfiction and fanart are healthy ways for teenagers to explore gender, sexuality and creativity; they do not read them, though, Gene does and occasionally does fanart for Beckett's fics, but keep them on the down low.

Gene has a crush on Marvel Girl (Jean Grey, not Rachel). Beckett has a crush on Iceman, Spider-Man, and Human Torch.

Jeff and Rebecca made a swear jar for English swears, a swear jar for Yiddish swears, a swear jar for Hebrew swears, and a swear jar for made up language swears. They have over 5,000 dollars in them.

Gene once got Northstars autograph. He also once got Jean-Paul Beaubier's autograph. So far, he's the only person to have figured out his identity by himself.

They live next door to William and Madeline Drake.

The reason Gene and Becket weren’t home when Mother took over is because they were both on multiday field trips to Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters.

Gene cries when dogs die in movies. A Dogs Journey broke him.

Like Billy, Jeff sleep talks. A lot. Mainly about the structure of a heart and different heart conditions. Often about Rebecca.

I just don’t know how to feel about that.

On one hand, I’m fine with a character having as many parental figures who care about them as they can but I’m just worried what Marvel Studios is going to do with Jeff & Rebecca Kaplan.

Like, please make Billy spend time with Agatha because he wants help with his magical abilities and not because the Kaplans, who were amazing in the comics, are shit parents.

The trash parents plot line is Tommy’s thing, not Billy’s, and it was something that shaped Tommy’s character immensely.

Jeff & Rebecca were so loving and accepting of everything that went on in Billy’s life, his sexuality, Tommy being his twin, Wanda also being his mother, you name it.

So just please respect the Kaplans Marvel.

Miles felt like he was getting a headache. He’d woken up early for this, way too early, and had been poked and prodded almost all morning to be properly ready to receive the first couple of people who’d come to present their sons or daughters as suitors for his hand. Not only that, but he didn’t even get to have Pav by his side for this. He’d been kept at home for the day, partially to help his parents with something and to have a chaperoned date with Gayatri, which usually happened around once every two weeks.

It was really just bad luck for Miles that it had to happen today, of all days. Meant that he had to meet with this…

“Does that say Nate or Mate?” Miles peered down at the paper, squinting harder to try and read the messy writing. “Or…Kate? Kate.”

“They’ll announce it when they get here.” Jeff told him quietly. Miles scoffed lightly, under his breath, and tapped his thighs almost anxiously. He had his mother to his left, his father to his right, and himself seated in the middle of the presentation hall. It was the first time he’d sat in the middle throne without playing pretend when he was younger; though he and Pavitr used to mess around in the presentation hall, the middle throne was usually his father’s seat. Sitting in it for real was weird for Miles, who felt like the whole situation was still sort of pretend.

Wilson entered the presentation hall, and Miles stood up automatically; for the past week, ever since his parents had officially decided to go forward with the arranged marriage and sent out the invites to the kingdom, Miles had been working with his parents, Wilson, Pavitr’s guardians, and Mary Jane to learn how to greet foreign guests; they weren’t something their kingdom received often, and Miles had been woefully out of practice with the customs.

“Announcing,” Wilson said loudly, and Miles stepped forward the three steps to present himself to the incoming suitor, “the princess Kate Bishop from the neighboring kingdom of Hawk.” Score, Miles thought to himself, called it.

The princess came in, head high and handmaids trailing behind her in two rows of two. She didn’t look nervous, but Miles knew that didn’t mean she wasn’t; he was working to keep his face schooled as well, but his legs were trembling and his hands were held tightly together so they didn’t do the same. Her parents didn’t seem to be with her, her traveling party small as they made their way down the hall and stopped right in front of Miles. They stared at each other for a moment, neither one of them saying anything.

“Miles.” Río coughed delicately, and Miles nearly jumped out of his skin.

“Right!” He said loudly, and Kate jumped as well. She stared at him with wide eyes, and he plastered a smile on his face. “Welcome to the Kingdom Nueva Araña, Your Highness.” He bowed slightly at the waist, letting out a quiet, shaky breath as he did so, and then stood up straight and held his hand out to her. Kate smiled uncertainly and put her hand in his, and he pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles. “You honor us with your presence here.”

“Thank you for the warm reception.” Kate said smoothly, and she pulled her hand delicately out of his own and folded it into her other hand. They were placed in front of her waist, and he noticed for the first time the glove on her right hand. A marksman’s glove, he thought it was, and he glanced to the left of her to verify it; one of her handmaids held the bow on her shoulder, the quiver of arrows hanging from her hip. Two for two. “I hope to get to know you well over the trip here.”

“What — yes.” Miles said automatically, yanking his gaze back to her. “Yes, the same here.” Kate smiled at him, curtsied gracefully, and turned on her heel. Her handmaids waited for her to walk before mimicking the motion and going after her, the whole group making their way out of the presentation hall. Miles waited for them to be gone fully before he let out a breath, his shoulders falling forward as he released the tension from the entire ordeal.

This was the absolute worst.

(From behind him —

“She didn’t even acknowledge us!”

“Honey, this is just for Miles specifically, they don’t need to acknowledge us.”

“I understand that, Río, but it would be nice, at least. Polite. Who doesn’t acknowledge the king and queen of the kingdom you’re visiting?”)

Wilson gave him a moment, just a small one, before clearing his throat pointedly from the front. Miles sighed, then rolled his shoulders as he straightened up again. The bickering whispers died down behind him.

“Announcing,” he said, and Miles wasn’t entirely sure if the acoustics carried his voice or if the man could just be that loud when he wanted to be. Either way, his voice was louder than Miles had ever heard it in his life. “The Prince William Kaplan from Mephisto.”

The young man strode in all by himself, confident and assured. He didn’t carry a weapon with him, though Miles wasn’t sure if it was because he didn’t have one or because Miguel took it before letting him enter the presentation all. He did have a staff, though, which Miles thought looked cool.

“Welcome to the Kingdom Nueva Araña, Your Highness!” Miles remembered to start without prompting from his mother this time. William looked at him with unimpressed eyes, and Miles felt his smile become slightly strained. He bowed to hide it as best as he could. “You honor us with your presence here.”

“Your Majesty. Your Highness.” William said, and Miles glanced up to see him bowing to the right, at his father, and then to the left at his mother. His eyes locked onto Miles’s, and he bowed to him as well. “Prince Miles. Thank you for the warm reception, and the invitation. I…look forward to getting to know you over the course of my visit here.”

“You as well.” Miles held his hand out automatically, palm up so that William could place his own, and blinked at the way his eyebrow lifted slowly instead. William nodded once at him and then turned without acknowledging the silent offering at all, striding back out of the hallway. Miles sighed heavily when the doors closed behind him, but Wilson didn’t give him the same moment he’d given him when he’d met with Kate.

“Announcing…”
