Tag Post, one of those, they are fun
tagged: @prince-of-elsinore Thank you lovely <3 ☺️
rules: tag some people you'd like to know better/catch up with.
last song: To be slightly less predictable, I gotta say "Brand New Start" by Paul Weller, this ol' roughened yet golden voice singing in a kind of achey way, about getting his shit together, fixing up what's broken, finding something real, making this old fixer upper of a soul work again, like a new thing. OH, PAUL.
currently reading: The usual shame about having not picked up and finished an actual book in awhile. On the bright side, reading all kind of great fanfic, including this little beaut of a gen fic by an author called ceramicheart, anything by them really: https://archiveofourown.org/works/42465276
last movie: I don't know if the three hour "History of the Eagles" counts, but I've become obsessed with this man right here:
Tumblr media
Sitting here with my guitar I don't deserve, trying to eek out some semblance of the intro to "Life in the Fast Lane." Joe Walsh, you fucking dude, you.
currently watching: Also trying to cut back, but I started re-watching some of 'Endeavour' which is WONDERFUL, particularly the episode "Fugue". Shaun Evans and Roger Allam shine so brightly together. Watch Inspector Thursday take Morse home and feed him, good for the soul.
currently craving: Beer and tacos, and it not being a work night.
tagging: only if y’all feel like it! A no pressure catch up with @justtoarguewithyou @stevieraebarnes @allthatsentimentalcandyfloss @storyshark2005 @savageandwise

I left a Facebook group dedicated to a band called The Wonder Stuff tonight because some asshole posted this. (Follow that link, because unless you're exactly my age and already somebody's Grandad Nigel in fucking Wolverhampton, you've never heard of The Wonder Stuff.)
I myself wouldn't have known much about anyone in this little meme had I not found U2 first. I suppose if Bono had died or sunk into obscurity or become an actual fucking fascist like John Lydon, he'd be more acceptable to Clive Crumpet, manager of the Sheffield Tesco Metro or whatever.
Yes, even when I'm on vacation I stay up late and get angry. Btw, The Wonder Stuff had only one really good album, which sadly for them came out around the same time as Achtung Baby. Life is so unfair.

Hey:)))
So I requested ur platonic Sidemen head cannons fic (I loved it btw tysm!!). And I was wondering if you could do another where's she's at the JJ Vs Tommy Fury fight with all the boys and their partners and just like cheering him on and congratulating him for all his effort on training and stuff even tho he didn't win.
Thanks<3
Of course I can do this for you! I felt so gutted for JJ when I heard the results he did his best and he tried so I’m proud of him on that!
Tumblr media
Sidemen x Y/n
Tw: language, fighting (sport), anger,
–—–
Tonight’s the night, JJ your longtime friend is once again boxing. You were nervous to say the least, he was going against Tommy, Tommy Fury. So of course you were nervous, so was the boys but you were confident JJ could find the confidence he would need to beat Tommy.
You looked back over your outfit, you wore a black dress (or a outfit of ur choice). You looked stunning, currently you were sitting in the mini van on your way to the stadium. You were sat next to Harry, resting your head onto his shoulder trying by to ease the nerves. Harry looked down and saw you fidgeting with your hands, so being a good friend he placed his hand on yours. Feeling like it would help your nerves he held you hand. That’s the thing about you and the boys relationship, just because you are friends doesn’t mean you weren’t aloud to hold a hand or hug them. That’s what you enjoyed about being friends with them. Harry spoke “don’t worry, you know JJ will do well.” You nodded and said “I know, I’ve always been like this since the Joe Weller fight.” You chuckled a little remembering JJ’s first time boxing.
Turning up outside the event, Harry helped you out the van. Seeing all your friends together made your nerves ease somewhat. You stayed close to the boys as you knew these events can be overcrowded. Getting into the building you guys made your way to the bar you vip people could go to. You said your hellos and took a few photos with fans as you made your way to the bar.
Finally getting into the quieter vip lounge, you heard Ethan shout “Y/n! Want a drink?” You nodded and replied “the usual please!” He nodded as he asked for your drink. Walking over you said “nice view of the ring anyways.” Ethan said “yeah, considering we couldn’t go ringside, it’s a nice view.” He handed you your drink which you thanked him.
Talking with the girls, you all made up some time. After watching a few of the fights, Simon placed a hand on your shoulder and spoke “come with me, JJ wants to see you.” You nodded. He wanted to see you not just because your friends. But you helped him get into boxing as you grew up in the sport. JJ admired you when it came to the sport as you were so passionate and knowledgeable about it. Your dad grew up on it too so you and your father helped JJ along side his team.
Walking into the changing room, you saw his team. Then JJ appeared from behind two people. Once he spotted you he smiled “Hey Y/n,” you smiled walking over to him “Hi JJ, how you feeling?” He nodded “good, I feel ready” you smiled “great, remember everything we’ve fought you.” He always listened to your mini speech before leaving the changing room. You said “no matter the outcome, you know if you’ve worked hard enough that you have one yourself over. If you feel your not doing something right, then that’s probably why, so when you hear the bell ring, go back to your corner and think of what is happening and then go back in the round a new man, ok?” He nodded feeling more confident. “Just remember JJ.. the boys, your team, your fans and myself are proud of you no matter what. Remember that you deserve to be the best version of yourself no matter what cause at the end of the day; you are the one that needs to be lost proud of yourself whatever the outcome may be.” He nodded. You lastly said “you know what I always say.” JJ replied “if you’ve worked hard enough then you’ve won mentally.” You nodded and gave him a hug then a kiss on his forehead “good luck JJ, do what you do best!” He smiled “thank you.” You waved goodbye as you headed back to the box.
After two more boxing matches, it was now JJ vs Tommy. You and everyone in the box watched closely as the two men did their walk outs. You watched closely as the round started.
*time skip (sos I don’t know that much of boxing so I don’t wanna waffle to you guys about something that may not even be right😂)*
You all felt on the edge of your seats as you wait for an arm to be lifted to declare who won. You held you hand with Faith as you were so nervous. From your view, you saw Tommy’s arm being lifted and hearing that he too had won. You hand fell faint in Faith’s hand. You felt so gutted for JJ, gosh you watched how hard he had worked for this and for it to be thrown away. You and the boys knew what he’s like when it comes to losing or at least when he’s worked hard for y and it not going his way. You all were mixed emotions on this, it seemed too wrong to be true.
After everyone was going to different places, you headed towards the changing room. You went over to JJ, you could hear him going on about the whole thing was rigged. The only thing that could calm him down was, you. (Sos cheesy ik)
You walked over to the two chairs, doing what you dad used to you with you when you were younger and had lost a boxing match. You grabbed the medical equipment and scissors. You took a seat and called him over “JJ, come here!” JJ looked at you and slowly walked over.
He took a seat in front of you and spoke “It was rigged! I swear Y/n!” You looked at him “listen, I know, just listen to what I have to say. I’m going to sound like my dad but just listen, ok?” He nodded. You started “I know it didn’t happen the way you wanted, life will do this. No matter how hard you work it can throw a lot of your good work away. When I was younger I’d be just like you and then my father would sit me down and tell me how losing will happen if it’s rigged or not.” JJ asked “youve been rigged before?” You nodded as you took his gloves off and started to cut the tape. “Listen I had a few boxing match rigged. One time the girl didn’t have padding on the inside of her glove. Remember that picture I used to show you?-” He nodded. “-yeah, well that was it. And another time I had the referee be the opponents father so of course they won. And did you know what my dad did?-” He shook his head. “- well he did two things, first he told the judges it was rigged then had an argument with the father and then he fought him in the car park.” JJ chuckled. You added “what I’m saying is, you and I both know you did incredible well. I mean come on JJ, you fought a man who’s considered a real boxer. That’s an accomplishment it’s self, you levelled up in the boxing game. You fought your best and you need to know we are proud of you.” He smiled “thank you Y/n.” You nodded “your welcome”
There was a comforting silence between you two as you finished up taking the tape off of him. JJ asked “Y/n? How did you get so many wins? Like when you box” you said “honestly.. I just find something about myself or about something in general that made me angry and just built the anger up and put that into my performance.” He nodded, then he pulled you into a hug. JJ spoke “thank you for everything Y/n, really means a lot.” You nodded “anything for a friend.”
Although JJ may have ‘lost’ he knew that no matter the outcome of your proud of what you did then you can win at your own game.

Fenzi/Doll House.
Tom Keifer is the owner of the doll store“Cinderella”.
The setting is that he has loved dolls since he was a child.
He loves the dolls in his shop, so he has no intention of selling them.
He loves the dolls on sale as if they were living things.
As a result, the employees (Jeff LaBar, Eric Brittingham, and Fred Coury) became so creepy with him that they left the store and moved elsewhere.
Employees rarely come to work at the store.
(However, I am curious about the store, so I sometimes observe the owner from a distance.)
One day, David Sylvian came to Tom's shop to buy a doll.
He asked Tom, "Do you have any dolls with beautiful faces?"
David went on to say.
『The most important part of a doll is its face』.
tom answered.
『The faces of the dolls in my shop are all good』.
『This is the one that looks the best!』
He said. The doll he brought out was an L.A. GUNS doll.
(※・・・In Japan, when the 〝face〟 is written in kanji, it can be read as "GUN", so it is a play on L.A.GUNS.)
However, David does not like the face of the L.A. GUNS doll and leaves the store angrily.
Next up is Paul Weller from the Style Council.
(※・・・He is nicknamed ``Check Man'' in this manga. I don't know why.)
Tom says to Paul.
『When it comes to checking dolls, I'm better than you.』
Paul ignores Tom's words and says to Tom,
『Now, here's a quiz. What is my favorite Japanese band?』
Tom answers easily.
『checkers』
Paul ran away in frustration.
Tom ignores Paul and loves Slash's doll.
Next, Jon Bon Jovi comes to the store.
Jon asks Tom.
『Do you have a stuffed animal like Bubbles?』
(※・・・Bubbles: Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee)
Tom brings out a Michael Jackson doll instead.
『How about a Michael Jackson doll instead?』
John is scared.
Tom:
『This doll's face has been remade many times, so it has cracks, but this is the only one I have.』
Jon:
『How much is it?』
Tom:
『500 million yen (approximately 4 million dollars)』
Jon leaves angrily
『Bye!』
Tom:
『It's half price sale now♪』
Jon:
『I don't need it!』
Eric says to tom
『Tom, you have to treat your customers well.』
Tom:
『The doll is more important to me than the customer.』
Tom wanders around the store carrying a Cure Robert Smith doll on his back.
Eric:
『Hey! Stop dressing like that at the store!.』
Tom:
『Why?』
Andy McCoy, formerly of Hanoi Rocks, comes to the store next.
Andy:
『Hi!』
Tom:
『Hi!』
Andy:
『It's a little early in the season, but I thought I'd buy a May(Satsuki) doll for my son.』
Tom:
『I have a doll that is just right. Mr. McCoy』
Tom offers Andy dolls of Robin Crosby and Joe Elliott dressed as samurai.
Andy:
『This doll's face looks like a beast.』
Tom:
『If that's the case, how about this doll?』
Tom offers a Duran Duran doll
Andy:
『Oh! great!』
Tom:
『The price is 500 million yen!』
Andy:
『Then I'll take out a 50-year loan.』
Tom:
『The down payment is 100 million yen!』
Eric:
『Tom, stop it! it's ugly!!』
Tom is silenced by Eric.
Andy:
『Hehehe... 5,000 yen is cheap.』
Eric:
『Thank you for your purchase』
Tom crying:
『Wooown, my doll was bought!!!』
Eric is stunned:
『・・・understand?』
However····
Three months later, Checkman Weller's doll shop 〝Checkers〟opened directly across from Tom's shop.
Paul:
『Fumiya(Lead vocalist of Japanese band “Checkers”)-kun’s dolls are not for sale.』
Tom finally became interested in business, the three employees returned, and the number of customers at the Cinderella store increased.
(As a result, thanks to Paul, the store was able to run normally, so Eric thanks Paul.)
The End.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
April 29, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
APR 30, 2024
In December 2020, when the pandemic illustrated the extraordinary disadvantage created by the inability of those in low-income households to communicate online with schools and medical professionals, then-president Trump signed into law an emergency program to provide funding to make internet access affordable. In 2021, Congress turned that idea into the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and made it part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law).
The program has enabled 23 million American households to afford high-speed internet. Those benefiting from it are primarily military families, older Americans, and Black, Latino, and Indigenous households. In February, the Brookings Institution cited economics studies that said each dollar invested in the ACP increases the nation’s gross domestic product by $3.89 and that the program has led to increased employment and higher wages. It also cuts the costs of healthcare by replacing some in-person emergency room visits with telehealth.
Slightly more of the money in the program goes to districts represented by Republicans than to those represented by Democrats, which might explain why 79% of voters want to continue the program: 96% of Democrats, 78% of Independents, and 62% of Republicans.
But the ACP is running out of money. Back in October 2023, President Joe Biden asked Congress to fund it until the end of 2024, and a bipartisan bill that would extend the program has been introduced in both chambers of Congress. Each remains in an appropriation committee. As of today, the House bill has 228 co-sponsors, the Senate bill has 5.
Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has said he supports the measure, but House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has not commented. Judd Legum pointed out in Popular Information today that the 2025 budget of the far-right Republican Study Committee (RSC) calls for allowing the ACP to expire, saying the RSC “stands against corporate welfare and government handouts that disincentivize prosperity.” More than four fifths of House Republicans belong to the RSC.
The differences between the parties’ apparent positions on the ACP illustrates the difference in their political ideology. Republicans object to government investment in society and believe market forces should be left to operate without interference in order to promote prosperity. Democrats believe that economic prosperity comes from the hard work of ordinary people and that government investment in society clears the way for those people to succeed.
Wealth growth for young Americans was stagnant for decades before the pandemic, but it has suddenly experienced a historic rise. In Axios, Emily Peck reported that household wealth for Americans under 40 has risen an astonishing 49% from where it was before the pandemic. Wealth doubled for those born between 1981 and 1996. This increase in household wealth comes in part from rising home prices and more financial assets, as well as less debt, which fell by $5,000 per household. Households of those under 35 have shown a 140% increase in median wealth in the same time period.
Brendan Duke and Christian E. Weller, the authors of the Center for American Progress study from which Peck’s information came, say this wealth growth is not tied to a few super-high earners, but rather reflects broad based improvement. “A simple reason for the strong wealth growth is that younger Americans are experiencing an especially low unemployment rate and especially strong wage growth,” Duke and Weller note, “making it easier for them to accumulate wealth.”
In honor of National Small Business Week, Vice President Kamala Harris today launched an “economic opportunity tour” in Atlanta, where she highlighted the federal government’s $158 million investment in “The Stitch,” a project to reconnect midtown to downtown Atlanta. This project is an initial attempt to reconnect the communities that were severed by the construction of highways, often cutting minority or poor neighborhoods off from jobs and driving away businesses while saddling the neighborhoods with pollution.
While some advocates wanted to use the $3.3 billion available from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act to take down highways altogether, the administration has shied away from such a dramatic revision and has instead focused on creating new public green spaces, bike paths, access to public transportation, safety features, and so on, to link and improve neighborhoods. More than 40 states so far have received funding under this program.
The administration says that projects like The Stitch will promote economic growth in neighborhoods that have borne the burden of past infrastructure projects. Today it touted the extraordinary growth of small businesses since Biden and Harris took office, noting that their economic agenda “has driven the first, second and third strongest years of new business application rates on record—and is on pace for the fourth—with Americans filing a record 17.2 million new business applications.”
Small businesses owned by historically underserved populations “are growing at near-historic rates, with Black business ownership growing at the fastest pace in 30 years and Latino business ownership growing at the fastest pace in more than a decade,” the White House said. The administration has invested in small businesses, working to level the playing field between them and their larger counterparts by making capital and information available, while working to reform the tax code so that corporations pay as much in taxes as small businesses do.
“Small businesses are the engines of the economy,” the White House said today. “As President Biden says, every time someone starts a new small business, it’s an act of hope and confidence in our economy.”
In place of economic growth, Republicans have focused on whipping up supporters by insisting that Democrats are corrupt and are cheating to take over the government. Matt Gertz of Media Matters noted in February that “Fox News host Sean Hannity and his House Republican allies spent 2023 trying to manufacture an impeachable offense against President Joe Biden out of their fact-free obsession with the president’s son, Hunter.” At least 325 segments about Hunter Biden appeared on Hannity’s show in 2023; 220 had at least one false or misleading claim. The most frequent purveyor of that disinformation was Representative James Comer (R-KY), chair of the House Oversight Committee, who went onto the show 43 times to talk about the president’s son.
The House impeachment inquiry was really designed to salt right-wing media channels with lies about the president and, in the end, turned up nothing other than witnesses who said President Biden was not involved in his son’s businesses. Then the Republicans’ key witness, Alexander Smirnov, was indicted for lying about the Bidens, and then he turned out to be in contact with Russian spies.
Comer has been quietly backing away from impeaching the president until today, when he popped back into the spotlight after news broke that Hunter Biden’s lawyer has threatened to sue the Fox News Channel (FNC) for “conspiracy and subsequent actions to defame Mr. Biden and paint him in a false light, the unlicensed commercial exploitation of his image, name, and likeness, and the unlawful publication of hacked intimate images of him.” His lawyer’s letter calls out FNC’s promotion of Smirnov’s false allegations.
Last year, FNC paid almost $800 million to settle defamation claims made by Dominion Voting Systems after FNC hosts pushed the lie that Dominion machines had changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
Legal pressure on companies lying for profit has proved successful. Two weeks ago, the far-right media channel One America News Network (OAN) settled a defamation lawsuit with the voting technology company Smartmatic. Today, OAN retracted a false story about former Trump fixer Michael Cohen, apparently made to discredit the testimony of Stormy Daniels about her sexual encounters with Trump. OAN suggested that it was Cohen rather than Trump who had a relationship with Daniels, and that Cohen had extorted Trump over the story.
“OAN apologizes to Mr. Cohen for any harm the publication may have caused him,” the network wrote in a statement. “To be clear, no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen and Ms. Daniels were having an affair and no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen ‘cooked up’ the scheme to extort the Trump Organization before the 2016 election.”
