Um just finished a reread of the Renegades trilogy after 4 years and-
I’m thinking about The Council and their backstories. How they got their powers.
How did Captain Chromium find out he’s invincible? Was it like a superman story were he was always “super”? And had to grow up, learning to control his temper, watch his strength, etc?
He gives me “grew up in the humble countryside but somehow still lacks an accent.” vibe
Blacklight also gave me the “born this way” vibe too. But what about Lady Indomitable ?
Or Simon becoming the Dread Warden.. A skinny little kid.. maybe always getting pushed around and picked on in school. Wanting nothing more than to be invisible only to one day.. turn invisible.
What could have possibly turned Tamaya into Thunderbird? Plane crash in the middle of a thunderstorm? Did Tsunami well..drown in a tsunami?? (literally just spit balling, but you get the point)
Also thinking about the OG Renegades before and during the Age of Anarchy. I need the “this how the band got together.” prologue.
(Um- how awesome would it be to get some sort of spin-off novella? Or even a comic with prologue and etc?? Something similar to what Marssia Meyers did with the Lunar Chronicles; making Stars above and Wires and Nerves.)
What drew the Renegades together in the first place? How did each of them join?
What causes their first argument? How did they handle their first kill? How they reacted to Nova’s family’s murder and their broken promise to protect them?
I can see Blacklight, (being the youngest) insisting that they refer to his garage as “Headquarters”. Or their “Comms” being cheap walkie talkies only uncovered by Georgia, (lady indomitable) sorting through his junk for supplies.
Them coming to the decision to move in together at “HQ”. After discovering how difficult it was to make plans, meet up and generally be on one accord from separate locations.
Could there have been a point when differences causes them to have a “This isn’t working” moment; And they go their separate ways?
Only to have a “We’re what makes each other strong/ This city needs us, but we need each other too.” moment, or something cheesy like that?
What if there was some 7th member that join, but ended up betraying them in someway? Causing them to be weary of so called “allies” in future.
Or the Renegades just literally learning what is it be superheros. And all the stuff that goes with it.

DISTRICT 4 HEADCANONS
These are just some of my headcanons for how I think district 4 works so
- starting with location and stuff, I think it’s canon that District 4 is what’s left of California and part of southern Oregan. Most maps have that at least, so I just went with it.
- there’s 12 docks, so I’d imagine each dock has its own little town with their own factories. Dock 1 is where all the government buildings are, like the Justice Building and Victor’s Village and the Children’s Home and the Academy. It’s also where the largest market is, though each dock has its own market. Probably where the more wealthy live.
- the farther down in docks you get (so the higher the number), I’d imagine the conditions would be worse, and they would get poorer. It’s not exactly like, Dock 1 is in wonderful condition and Dock 12 is horrible, it varies from Dock to Dock and what location of that dock, but I’d imagine there’s a lot less wealthy people in Dock 10 than Dock 2.
- most people have some sort of job to do with fishing, and it’s a really bad job, as in dangerous and doesn’t pay much and only poorer people really have to do it. If you’re wealthy, you can train at the Academy or work at the market or be some sort of marine scientist or something like that.
- speaking of the Academy, I do think 4 is a full Career district, but maybe not as intense as 2. When people are 6, they begin training at the Academy, and graduate after their last reaping. After they graduate, they probably go back to whatever job they would have had before, which is usually fishing. Most people attend the Academy for the food and water their family would get, so a lot of them come from poorer docks.
- when attending the Academy, you live in the dorms, though traveling to other docks isn’t hard and can be done often. I’d imagine the district is big enough for some form of public transportation, like buses, or even just sailing. If you live in the Children’s Home while attending the Academy, you’d probably just live there since it’s close enough.
- I do think the Academy would try to enforce some sort of “be strong show no weakness have no friends” type thing, but with more mixed results than in 2. Some people follow it exactly, and other people ignore it. It really depends on the person.
- at the Academy, they’d learn stuff like math and English and history and whatever, but most of their classes would be stuff like weapons training (everyone probably has to take at least one class in each weapon, and then later can choose which weapons to specialize in), fitness classes like running and strength training and climbing and swimming, and survival classes that teach first aid and survival skills and such. They’d also show past Games and have kids examine what mistakes last tributes made and what they could have done differently so they don’t make the same ones.
- I don’t know if they’d have any sort of system for figuring out who volunteers? Tbh in canon it doesn’t say whether any career district chooses their tributes ahead of time, as far as I can tell, and Finnick was 14, so for district 4 at least, I’d say they don’t. So tributes just volunteer when they want, and hope to be lucky enough to be the first one to.

All-Star Squadron #7
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
“Carnage For Christmas” by Roy Thomas, Adrian Gonzales, and Jerry Ordway.
The December 22, 1941 edition of the Washington World’s headline states “JSA Disbands”, “Decision Rumored Since Dec. 9 Confirmed”, and “Statement Reveals Eight Current Members Have Enlisted In Armed Services Under Real Names!”
Private Al Pratt (Atom) strolls the streets of Washington DC and bumps into a giant of a man.  Al goes his own way as we follow the giant.  The giant’s revealed to be Baron Blitzkrieg. The Baron and his henchmen plan to assassinate Winston Churchill, scheduled to visit the United States, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Blitzkrieg first debuted in World’s Finest Comics #246, published in 1977.
Al is suspicious of the rude foreigner but puts them aside as he doesn’t want to be like “the paranoids who’re finding Axis spies under every bed, since Pearl Harbor”.
Al, now dressed in his Atom costume, visits FDR at the White House.  FDR asks about the other members of the Justice Society.
“I’m in training to be a tank-corpsman myself, stationed in Virginia but then, you already know that, don’t you, or else Pvt. Al Pratt wouldn’t have gotten a special leave to report here tonight.  Hawkman’s a Tyro – a ‘Dodo” I think they call ‘em in the Army Air Force on the west coast while Sandman’s looking forward to handling the 37-mm. anti-aircraft cannon. And Dr. Fate, who’s spanned the gaps between the worlds, will soon be practicing to be a parachute trooper. Though he’s technically blind…in a way…Dr. Mid-Nite’s alter ego has been commissioned a captain in the medical corps. He and his assistant Myra are in the Pacific war zone right not, working on a crash cure for tropical fever.  Starman’s other self is in flight training, too…at Fort Randolph, near San Antonio, while Johnny Thunder’s joined the Navy, heaven help it!  The Spectre’s keeping busy here at home but the last I heard, even Green Lantern had enlisted!  I’m not sure about our other honorary JSA’ers…”
Props to Myra for following Dr. Mid-Nite into the war.  That is love and loyalty.  If you’ve read Geoff John’s JSA, you know that poor Myra suffers a violent end. Yes, it’s due to her association with Dr. Mid-Nite.  People theorize that Charles was gay and if so, I feel sorry for Myra.  Charles would have loved her but not in the romantic sense. I feel Myra would have been willing to be his “beard” in the less enlightened times of the mid-20th century.  It’s surprising the duo never married – as romantic partners or platonic partners.  Neither Charles or Myra married anyone else.  Of course, Wesley Dodds and Dian Belmont never married.  The Justice Society was filled with individuals rebelling against society’s expectations!
The Flash and Hourman are the members of the JSA not mentioned by the Atom. Unbeknown to the JSA or the Squadron, Hourman is a prisoner of war in Japan but the Flash’s whereabouts are a mystery.
The honorary members are Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, possibly Robin?  Ma Hunkel, the original Red Tornado, was later revealed to be an honorary member.
Ma Hunkel wouldn’t have been active.  I haven’t read much Golden Age Wonder Woman but I assume Diana was involved with the U.S. army in some capacity given her connection to Steve Trevor and Etta Candy.
Superman wouldn’t join the military as he needs to stay far away from the Spear of Destiny’s influence.
Robin is underage so he wouldn’t be eligible for the military.  Batman is a surprise.  The rest of the non-superhuman members joined the various military branches but Bruce decided staying home and punching robbers in the face was more important. Maybe he felt he was needed at home to run Wayne Enterprises?  Of course, Green Lantern runs his own company, and it didn’t stop him from enlisting.
FDR ushers the Atom into the next room where Hawkgirl, Liberty Belle, Johnny Quick, Robotman, Firebrand II and the Shining Knight are waiting.
Atom questions FDR: “But what about Plastic Man?  If it’s old home week, shouldn’t our FBI liaison be here?”
FDR informs the Atom that Plastic Man is “on special assignment, alas…but he sends his regards.”
FDR tells the heroes about a suspected plot to assassinate Winston Churchill.  FRD orders the heroes to escort Churchill to the White House.
Hawkgirl, Liberty Belle, and Sir Justin patrol the sky.  Liberty hitches a ride on Winged Victory.  Hawkgirl complains about the cold.  Well, you are the one wearing a bikini top in December.
Firebrand and Johnny Quick patrol the roads.  Johnny reveals he’s bought a Christmas gift for Liberty Belle.
Robotman and the Atom are at the piers waiting for Churchill’s ship.  Robotman and Atom continue their mutual admiration-inferiority contest. Atom wishes he was built like a tank and Robotman would love to be human.
The ship arrives at the pier but is bombarded by German torpedos.  The All-Stars work together to save the ship and crew.  They also capture the German U-boat.  Baron Blitzkrieg switches out the real Churchill with a robot duplicate during the chaos.
Liberty Belle realizes Churchill isn’t the real one when he doesn’t recognize her despite meeting her months ago.  Churchill approaches FDR and explodes!  Everything’s okay as FDR was Plastic Man in disguise: “The FBI – and the Secret Service, natch – were afraid something like this might happen so I took his place.”
The All-Stars rescue Churchill but Baron Blitzkrieg escapes.
The issue ends with Churchill and FDR addressing the crowds on Christmas Eve.
An average issue. Most Nazi comic book villains are boring and one-dimensional to me – Red Skull, Baron Blitzkrieg, etc. In real life, Nazis are terrifying and repulsive. In comics, they’re boring. Highlights of the issue were the Libby-Johnny romance and the Atom-Robotman mutual inferiority-admiration society.

We Were All Villains In the Beginning - Chapter 1
Background and Other Chapters
Word Count: 3127
This is an au where the Renegades are the villains and the Anarchists, now the Resistance, are the vigilantes. @healing-winston-pratt came up with this idea and I just ran with it.
--------
One more round Nova promised herself. Just one more.
She swung at the training dummy with her leg, the side of her foot crashing into the rubber head hard. The head jolted to the side, leaning over to touch the shoulder before it snapped back after Nova's foot had passed by completely.
Nova looked at the board which buzzed as her foot receded, signaling the end of the training round.
5000 newtons of force was on the board. It was a new high score and people in the training arena clapped politely.
"You did great kid," Ingrid said, giving Nova a high five while she wiped sweat off her brow and drank from her water bottle. "You keep getting better each time. I think you're about ready to be sent on your first mission."
"Really!" Nova exclaimed, her brown eyes lighting up. More then anything, Nova wanted to be sent on a mission for the Resistance so she could help take down the Renegades.
10 years ago, when Nova was nearly 7, a group of six prodigies called the Renegades took over the city of Gatlon. The previous government was oppressive of prodigies and needed to be replaced, but the Renegades only made problems worse and forced everyone into more tension.
Thanks to them, all prodigies, people with superhuman abilities, were forced to become Renegades if they somehow didn't manage to find a way to flee to a place where the Renegades hadn't taken hold. Cruel and brutal, the Renegades changed everything to the worse, both for those with powers and those without.
Tensions between the two groups only worsened and many, like Nova's family, had fled underground with the Resistance for shelter. Nova's family, her uncle Alec specifically, had been the ones to start the Resistance as immediately, they had gone too far.
Nova's dad, David Artino, had been a prodigy and saw the signs of brutality early, using his abilities to make a helmet to amplify powers that Alec could use to wipe out the Renegades before they took root. But the leader of the Renegades, Captain Chromium, or Hugh Everhart, had found out and killed David for it in front of Nova, taking the helmet and using it to supposedly then kill Alec and force the Resistance underground after they thought they had squashed it in it's start.
But that was far from the case as Alec and the Resistance was alive and thriving underground and Nova only had the most to gain by getting rid of the Renegades as she had already lost the most.
She didn't even want revenge for what happened to her father. She wanted safety for herself and others. She wanted actual justice and to end the tension as that was already happening in the Resistance where prodigies and non-prodigies alike were living in peace.
Most of all, Nova wanted to live a normal life. She wanted to see the sun and not have to flee back into the shadows. She wanted to be able to exist instead of her mother having to wipe any trace of their existence off the map after their father was killed, Nova using fake papers made by a woman named Millie to navigate the city above the one she resided in whenever she was forced to.
"I really do think you're ready for a mission and I'm sure your uncle and mom and the other heads of the Resistance will all agree," Ingrid said. "You're the most skilled person we have since you've been training so hard so long. I think of all people you're made for this stuff."
"I promise I won't let you down," Nova said, trying to keep her voice down so she didn't draw attention from the others.
"It's not official yet," Ingrid said. "So don't jump ahead. But I think you're ready and once I tell the Heads and your family this, I'm sure you'll be assigned a mission soon."
"I sure hope so," Nova said. She had been training her whole life to be assigned a mission and was the last of the people in her peer group that hadn't been assigned one if they wanted it. Narcissa already began taking up missions and Callum had progressed past the training stage so he could go work in the tech house and Kaden was already helping with teaching the younger kids in the Resistance.
"You go eat something while I talk to the Heads. Seriously kid you've been at it all day. Put something in your stomach and shower," Ingrid laughed, ruffling Nova's hair which had fallen out of its braids for the most part.
"Just one more round," Nova said.
"Fine," Ingrid agreed. "But then you have to go take care of yourself. I swear I'm about to put limits on your use of the training arena. Let other people take a turn."
Nova laughed as Ingrid left. She went to the touch screen against the wall to start up another round when a voice called out her name.
"Owl!" Someone, Maggie, yelled. Her family had always called her Owl since she didn't sleep and ironically Maggie got the bird themed nickname of Magpie since she was drawn to metal like a magnet. A power she got from the bullet that hit her in the back as a baby.
Nova looked up and saw her younger sister leaning over the railing, looking down into the training arena at her.
"Mom says come eat!"
"One more-"
"No! You say that every time! Now. I don't want to have to wait," Maggie complained.
"Okay! Okay! Fine!" Nova said, grabbing her things as she went up the steps to greet her sister at the platform above.
Maggie looked up and down at Nova.
"For your safety and health we're taking the elevator up to our compartment. I don't want Mom yelling at me after you pass our from exhaustion," she announced, grabbing Nova's hand and pulling her to the elevator before she could refuse.
The Resistance was entirely underground and wasn't a resistance so much as it was a town beneath the earth. It was a gigantic labyrinth beneath the ground that dug into the dirt, enforced with wood and metal and clay.
It was made up of homes, compartments they were called, of all sizes along with shops, restaurants, a schooling system, a greenhouse, a tech center, a training arena, community out reaches, and more. It truly was it's own functioning town and ran just like any other place that resided by Gatlon.
Frankly, the only reason it had an economy was because people needed a small amount of money to circulate through in case they needed to go to the city above to buy something like a specific medicine or a certain ingredient or something that wasn't a general thing that the Resistance couldn't make or grow with what they had available.
If the world were to collapse, the Resistance would be the only place on earth that would make it. They already lived in secret underground and had nearly everything they needed with growing numbers and a thriving population.
The Resistance, for the most part, was located underneath the Gatlon City Park which spanned 840 acres and they only took up a quarter of that space. It was safer to be under the park because there was no structure above that would collapse though it wasn't like immense amounts of safety measures were put in place just in case of an emergency.
Regardless, the Resistance had plenty of space to grow and since Nova had been part of it since the start ten years ago when she was 7, she single-handedly watched as it became more then just a small group of people going into hiding but instead nearly 3000 people of all ages and backgrounds coming together to form a community and safe haven for all.
The elevator whizzed up to the top platform and Nova looked down at the town beneath her, hundreds of levels filled to the brim with shops and houses and places of all skill sets.
Nova, along with the Heads of the Resistance and the earliest members of it, lived on the top tier of the bunker world. They just kept digging deeper and expanding outwards like roots as more and more people joined.
She watched happily as people sung down between the levels, taking the stairs or ladders or whatever there was to move from level to level as each floor had a hollowed out center and the buildings looked almost liked links in a chain that had been tossed in a pile, going in all directions.
Nova and Maggie reached the top floor and went into their compartment.
As soon as the door opened, Nova was hit with the smell of sinigang. Fish, rice, tamarind, and taro were just some of the few things she could pick out in the stew already and her mouth watered. It was her favorite and Nova wondered if it was some sort of special occasion that she had forgotten about.
Immediately, Nova went to grab a bowl but her mom, Tala, stopped her.
"Go shower first. Then you can eat. We wash off before supper."
"But I'm hungry."
"You're also covered in sweat. Go shower and Evelyn Margaret take off your shoes," Tala said.
Maggie, or Evelyn Margaret as that was her first and middle name, jumped and scurried to go put her shoes on the rack by the entrance. For the most part they called her Maggie, a nickname of her middle name, as that was the name Nova's father had wanted for her but instead it got turned into her middle name. Originally they had always called her Evie but after David's passing, Tala and Alec and eventually Nova and everyone else called her Maggie.
Nova went to the bathroom in between her and Maggie's rooms and turned on the shower before grabbing fresh shorts and a t-shirt as it was still decently hot and humid in the Resistance as it was summer though being underground and the AC kept the temperature a bit lower. Of course Nova was still going to be hot even after a cold shower as she had been training all day and her body temperature was probably that as someone with a bad fever.
Nova washed off as fast as she could so she could eat, hastily drying her hair and putting on fresh clothes before she raced out of the bathroom so she could eat. She was starving and went through a bowl of sinigang in seconds.
"Sweet rot you're hungry," Tala laughed. "It's a good thing I made plenty. I was hoping there would be leftovers for later but I guess not."
"Maybe that's a good thing," Nova said as she server herself a second helping. "Fish never does do well as a leftover."
"Yeah," Maggie agreed, nodding and pinching her nose while her face crinkled in disgust at the thought of day old fish in the fridge.
"Please tell me you did something besides train today," Tala asked as she began to rinse out her bowl and put it in the dishwasher.
"I did my normal chores today at home and then did my work in my centers before training for the rest of the day."
"You need to do something else."
"Hey I worked in the greenhouse, the tech center, and helped work with the younger kids in training today. That's a lot besides personal training," Nova said.
"And yet there's nothing besides training that you do for fun," Tala pointed out. "When you aren't at your dance classes or doing any work you're just training. Why not start back up with your drum set again or embroider something?"
"I embroider at night along with reading and my night rounds," Nova pointed out as she ate.
"Then practice drums again and find something else to do. I want you doing more then training and ballet for fun in the day time."
"But I have all night to do what I want."
"And how often do you do anything normal teenagers do like play video games or watch something on YouTube off your laptop?"
Nova bit her lip. Her mom had a point.
"Touche."
"Ha! Point Mom!" Tala said. "Now finish up and go down to Meeting Room 1. Your uncle and the rest of the Heads want to see you."
Nova's heart soared. The Heads wanted to see her and Ingrid said that once she told them that Nova was ready for a mission she should get one.
She was about to get her first mission.
Nova devoured the last of her food quickly and took care of her dishes before brushing her teeth and making herself look a bit neater. She was finally getting her first mission and she didn't care if it was being given to her by the very people who raised her, she was going to look as nice as she could for the event on such short notice.
Nova kissed Maggie and Tala on the cheek for goodbye and shoved on her shoes before going down to Meet Room One on the first level.
She straightened her clothes out one last time before knocking on the door.
It opened, and surrounding the table were all of the Heads; her uncle Alec, Honey Harper, Leroy Flinn, Ingrid Thompson, Winston Pratt, Malee Suwan, and Adriana Sandoya. While Malee and Adriana hadn't been part of the original Resistance members, they joined shortly after and were in charge of their own respective departments. There were other department leaders that weren't on the board but Malee and Adriana were the most prominent department leaders who joined later as they ran the biggest operations, putting them in charge.
Nova straightened her back and stepped in, trying to shove down her smile.
"You wanted to see me?" She asked.
Ingrid winked at her right away and Alec cleared his throat, the metal door shutting.
"Insomnia take a seat please," Alec said, using her alias meaning that they were talking business. Just because she was his niece didn't mean she was getting any privileges.
Nova sat in the last empty chair, leg bouncing and her fingers tapping against her legs.
"For a while, you've been the last person in your peer group to be assigned a mission after selecting that path despite being the most well trained," Alec, or Ace she should be calling him as it was a business matter and not a family one, said. "There is a reason for this."
"Insomnia we've been developing a more intense plan for the past few years," Ingrid, the Detonator, began. "We are planning on having someone go in as a spy into the Renegades and feed us back information as well as steal back the helmet your father made. This way we can use it to overthrow them like we had originally planned before the Captain took matters into his own hands."
Nova's lips quirked into a frown. They all knew what the Detonator meant. They all knew she was referring to how Hugh Everhart broke into the Artino family apartment and shot Maggie and David in front of Nova before taking the helmet and leaving. She would never forget it and she would never be able to properly sleep again because of it.
Nova remembered it vividly. She had been playing in her room while her mother was out to get more medicine and her dad was trying to get Maggie to stop crying from her fever when the door slammed open.
Nova heard yelling and Nova raced over to see what was happening, watching from the open door before Hugh pulled out a gun and fired. The first hit Maggie, maybe unintentionally or not, and the next hit David, sending both of them collapsing to the ground in a pool of blood.
Nova screamed and ran to the closet in her room for safety, trying not to sob so loud that Hugh would find her and kill her too. She remembered the closet door opening and Hugh just staring down at her before ignoring her and closing the closet door and leaving.
When Tala came home, Nova was over David and Maggie's bodies trying to get them to wake up. Luckily, and miraculously, Maggie had survived, gaining the ability to manipulate metal as she clutched onto the silver bullet. David was not as fortunate.
"So you want me to go in as a spy?" Nova asked.
"Yes," Honey Harper, Queen Bee, confirmed. "But we had you train much longer then others because it's such a dangerous task. We know of all people you're the one who's best fit for it. You're the best fighter we have who will for sure stay loyal and they don't know you exist at all."
"Don't you think Captain Chromium might recognize me. He's seen me before?" Nova asked.
"The Captain is as dense as a brick and more prideful then anyone. I doubt he will notice," Leroy, Cyanide, stated.
"But know that if you take up this mission, it is insanely risky and emotionally and mentally draining. You may very easily lose your life in this job if you aren't careful," Ariana, Equation, added.
"So it's your choice if you take this up or not," Winston, the Puppeteer said.
"Do my mom and sister already know about this as well as the details of the job?" Nova asked. She didn't want to come home and tell her family that she might be going on a suicide mission.
"Yes they are aware," Ace said. "I talked to your mom about it and told your sister. They are on board with it. As long as you're 100 percent sure you want this mission then it's yours."
"So do you want the mission?" Malee, the Architect, asked.
"Can I have more details if possible with how we're supposed to make me become a Renegade?" Nova asked.
"We'd stage a moment where you would use your power to knock others out in front of a Renegade so they pull you into their system," Cyanide told her.
Nova bit her lip. She knew how to use her powers but she hardly bothered to use them. She hadn't used them since she was little unless it was an emergency. The only power she had used was her ability to not sleep since she had little choice against it.
"Yes," Nova agreed anyways. "Yes I do."
She didn't care how risky it was. She wanted the Renegades to fall after all they had done and she wanted everyone to finally have back freedom.
"Then congratulations on your first mission Insomnia," the Detonator said, grinning.

Part 2: A teen named Ace Artino
17 years old Alec
    Alec had something to do.
Actually, he had many things to do, but above all of them, one.
Gatlon City was a great disaster, the most beautiful and chaotic orchestra Alec had ever experienced. The message had worked like a nuclear-social bomb. The streets looked like Troy, drenched in blood and horror and violence and art made of these blood. The riots spread like a virus; one day, the suburbs were ‘peaceful’ and the next one, there were corpses in the front yards of the houses. The news channels had stopped broadcasting the news about the Anarchists and their cause, not to spread it, although it was already too late.
    The damage was being done.
Alec was walking down the street, with his helmet not in his head, but kept in a backpack that Leroy had lent him instead. He could not wear the helmet on the streets if he intended not to catch people’s attention or draw violence to himself, so he kept it  safe against his chest, like a second heart.
What would he be without that helmet?
    Nothing.
    At all.
He inhaled and quickened his pace. Around him, everything was distant screams, joint silences, assaults, uncontrolled policemen, free prodigies and dead prodigies. The cars passed at full speed, desperate to escape from that crazy circus, but two blocks were enough until they crashed with another car whose owners were as desperate to run away as they were. People were beginning to accumulate fear, while every day more and more prodigies were seen using their powers as the free beings they were. Alec's chest always swelled with pride at the sight of eight-eyed humans returning boulders, wind elementals generating whirlwinds, and even his Anarchists, spreading chaos and inspiring more prodigies to join his fight.
Alec had never felt so much hope in his life; it was as if each one of the chains that bounded him were breaking suddenly, letting him levitate a little more. His school closing its doors due to an internal riot, crack, a few inches above the ground. Gatlon’s park populated by vengeful prodigies, crack, a little higher. His Anarchists fighting the police and the military, beating them, crack, he was about to touch the sky with his fingertips.
But a chain was still there.
And he was going to get rid of it.
He finally reached the apartment at Drain Way and Southwest 435, hid over the entrance, and forced the glass door open with his invisible hands. He would destroy it, when he left that sty, to never come back.
He walked down the hall, each step rumbling in his chest, until he reached the elevator. Summoning it with his mind, he slammed it down, opened the metal doors, and  got in it. Like someone throwing a ball into the sky, Alec took the elevator up in a second.
Until he reached the apartment where his father and brother lived.
And where, until a few weeks ago, he did too.
He got out of the elevator, went to the door of his old apartment, and before entering, he put on his helmet. He gradually felt how everything around him existed and how he could manipulate it as he pleased. He straightened his back, took a breath and a decision, and kicked the door open with an invisible but equally violent kick.
He minimally entered the apartment, and slammed the door with his invisible hands, locking it. The general view of the apartment was just as deplorable as the last time Alec had been there. The armchair full of stains from different origins, the individual plastic table, the kitchen with a mini freezer and a microwave, the hallway that led to the bathroom and the bedrooms. Alec hated every inch of that hell.
    He inhaled and looked ahead.
Dante Artino was sitting in one of the only two chairs in the apartment. His image was as intimidating as ever: the spread legs, the hunched back, the empty beer bottle in one hand and the lit cigarette in the other, the rough and unshaven beard from who knew when, the red eyes, the mouth forming a contemptuous grin, the growls in his throat.
All his life Alec had flinched at that image and waited for the first blow.
    But not this time.
He straightened his back even further and, with his mind, he pulled five leather belts from his backpack. He unscrewed them in one stroke and threw them at Dante like snaking whips; they wrapped around his legs and arms, exerted pressure, and brought him to his knees to the ground. A belt pulling each leg, each arm, and of his neck, keeping him still.
Alec untied his father's belt with his mind, and drew it to his hand like a magnet.
    He unrolled it.
He looked into his father's eyes.
    He tensed his jaw.
And he struck the first blow.
One by one, he took revenge for each bruise, each tear, each plea, each trauma that this man had generated on him. A whip on the cheek, another on the temple, one on the arms. The other belts tugged and tugged on Dante Artino, making sure he didn't move an inch. The man gasped and spat blood but said nothing at all.
    That frustrated Alec.
    So he insisted.
He raised his right arm even higher and dropped it with a brutal lash over Dante's left eye.
    Blow for blow.
“Bastard,” Alec growled and whipped him once more.
    Insult for insult.
    “Useless rat.”
He pressed harder on Dante's neck.
    “Asshole.”
He pulled on his arms until they were dislocated.
     “Parasite.”
    He broke his legs.
     “Villain.”
He gave ten alternating lashes on each cheek.
Hit for hit, insult for insult.
    He stopped for air.
He didn't gasp, he didn't hunch over.
With his invisible hands, he drew the belts towards him, causing Dante to hang in the air, like he did when he was a child, in the same position.
    Alec spat at him.
“You ruined my life,” Alec muttered, looking at the person who called himself his father in the eyes.
    Dante laughed cheekily.
“You ruined your life, useless rat,” he replied, and Alec's anger was heightened by his bewilderment.
He twisted the leather belt, tightening it around Dante's neck further.
“I’m. Not. An. Useless. Rat,” Alec emphasized, with every tug and pressure exerted on Dante's body.
“Yes. You. Are,” Dante replied, in the same way. He was hanging and he still found the strength to harass his son.
    Alec roared angrily, outraged.
“NO, I’M NOT! I’M A GOD; I’M THE VOICE OF THIS AGE!”
Dante frowned and gathered all his strength to return his son's spit, only his was  impregnated  with blood and alcohol.
“You are just an useless bastard that evolved into a mad villain with aspirations of an impossible greatness.”
    Alec squealed, enraged.
“I’M NOT MAD! I’M NOT A VILLAIN! I NEVER WAS, I AM NOT, AND I’LL NEVER BE, THOUGH YOU CALLED ME THAT ALL MY LIFE, YOU BASTARD, YOU ASSHOLE, YOU...!”
Dante didn't lose his cool calm when Alec ran out of insults obscene enough to describe him appropriately, and he replied, with a superior smile.
“Yes, you are. And I’ll always despise you because of that.”
    ‘Enough’, said Alec's trigger.
    He was not mad.
    He was not a villain.
    He was a god.
    And gods gave their verdict.
    He did the same.
He let his mental hands lose control as he directed all his fury to them and they pulled so hard on the belts that Dante's head was separated from his body in the blink of an eye.
The head rolled on the ground, leaving a trail of blood, as satisfying as it was macabre.
    Dante Artino was dead.
And his own son had murdered him.
    Just like he deserved it.
Alec did not feel an inch of guilt; he just felt thirsty. He wanted more, more blood with which to satisfy his appetite for revenge after having lost so much to that man and many more. He needed to see suffering in those who had made him suffer, agony in those who had ruined him. That act of justice had not satiated him, no matter how much he had prolonged and squeezed it to get the most out of it.
He still needed other people's pain to avenge his.
Alec smiled, kicked Dante's head like someone would kick a ball to make a score, and left the apartment.
He would find it in the streets.

So you’ve read Harry Potter right? Do you have any ideas on what houses each renegades council member would be in?
yep i have! doing the Council is a little difficult just because some of them *cough* Thunderbird and Tsunami *cough* get barely any time in the books (and also each house has very generic traits so everyone can techincally be in like three houses but we’re not gonna talk about that rn) so i am going to give them two unless i really think they are one specific house but ANWAYS here you go!
ALSO THESE ARE JUST MY THOUGHTS PLEASE DONT GET MAD
IDK WHY ANYONE WOULD GET MAD BUT WHATEVER
ALSO LOWKEY SUPERNOVA SPOILERS SO UM YEAHHH
Hugh: Gryffindor/Hufflepuff! i know the whole strength thing makes him seem like a perfect Gryffindor (bravery and strength etc, etc) but he’s also pretty standoffish and constantly working in his/the Council’s favor. he also gives Captain America vibes(thank you @healing-winston-pratt beautiful au btw) who i associate with Gryffindor/Hufflepuff. i almost said Ravenclaw but then i remembered how he handled Ace, the sentinel, the renegades in general, etc) but THEN i remembered how he decided to do what was best for him/his group as often as possible which made me think: Ravenclaw/Slytherin?!?!? so in short-i dont really know lol
Simon: Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff! (no this is not cause im ravenclaw and hes my favorite council member lol) its just the vibe, ya know? first of all, he’s usually the first one to say “hey let’s hear them out, get both sides of the story” which can be read as wanting either fair-play or a logical approach to a problem. he’s quick to forgive others and will give second chances when not many others would (nova/nightmare, adrian/sentinel)
Evander: Gryffindor/Slytherin! he’s super confident(arrogant but whatever) and impulsive. he and his powers are flashy and bold and unafraid of a fight. that angry reaction when the renegades were asking about agent n in supernova? yea that’s the fear of losing influence/power/control over the people. which ties into his ambition! he wants to keep the glorious spotlight the renegades have-and will do that no matter what it takes (nova execution idea, what he was saying at the end of Renegades, etc) similar to Tamaya, he also will throw himself into fights (verbal or otherwise) so hes got the nerve Gryffindor values
Tamaya: Gryffindor/Slytherin! she’s got ambitions and is constantly moving towards achieving them(labor laws, remember?). her beliefs are solid and she is very focused on achieving them. she also charges into battles a lot, and is the first to show up to any potential fights (cosmopolis, renegades parade, arena, etc) while she’s very focused on justice she also recognizes that it’s not always black and white (opposed to the whole nova execution idea) and tries to extend kindness to those she thinks deserve and/or need it
Kasumi: Hufflepuff! she’s super chill and kinda just trying to keep renegades functional. to me it seems like she wanted to make a difference for prodigies and while the Council didn’t follow through with that as well as they should’ve the thought is still there. she's dedicated to doing what she can to help others and loyal to her fellow Council even if she doesn’t agree with them. also its kinda the vibe. ALSO i thought about Slytherin because while she doesn’t seem ambitious she has water powers and its saying Slytherin kinda relates to the water? (im looking at the wiki rn so like, cut me some slack lol) just imagine a Hogwarts-age Kasumi looking at the lake through the common-room windows and tell me its not adorable
*bonus*
Georgia: Gryffindor! the whole ‘yes i’ll stand guard for this family because they are in danger and helped us’ and ‘yeah i can fight crime and raise a child at the same time im just that cool’ combined with how she (i think) feared being powerless-especially in the sense of powerless to protect her loved ones-screamed Gryffindor. she helped people who she knew were kind, goodhearted people and was kind and goodhearted herself

Renegade Series (Spoilers)
Just finished the series. And I still have so many questions.
1. If Adrian could draw Agent N and inject himself with it. Couldn't he also draw an antidote if others were injected with Agent N.
2. Magpie is actually baby Evie?! I didn't see that one coming, but will we ever see her again? I hope we can get a spinoff and maybe some closure.
3. Did Frostbite and her team get their powers back at the ending? And why weren't any of them put in jail. They killed Hawthorne and broke several laws all in the name of justice.
4. Honey Harper deserved better. I wish they didn't kill her off and had her alive.
5. Ace and Honey should've been a couple. They have so much history.
6. So everyone can be a hero? They don't see the problem with that? I mean there will always be bad guys and they do need heroes. But now everyone and their mother can go out and fight crime? Just like that?!
7. HONEY HARPER AKA QUEEN BEE DESERVED BETTER!!
8. I was hoping this book would have the bad guys win since I was rooting for them the entire time. But I knew Nova would have a change of heart bc of Adrian. And true love wins in the end blah blah.
9. Ace should've listened to his niece. They could have been halfway around the world living on some island. Maybe destroy the Renegades at another time.
10. I knew Nova would turn to the good side. Ever since the first book when she hesitated to kill Captain Chronium in the first place, I knew that she would switch sides.
11. So the council really decided to have a almost public execution? Trash. People worshipped them like they were God's and it got to their heads.
12. Winston Pratt also deserved better. Poor baby was abused since he was a kid and turned into a villain. Then when he finally got better he ended up dying.
13. Frostbite should've been in jail. She low-key is a bad guy and abused her powers. She killed Hawthorne and Winston, also attempted to kill Max and didn't care that a child was dying because of her.
14. Callum aka Wonder was cute but annoying. Magpie should've never given him the helmet, his powers weren't that useful and had no purpose.
15. The power went to Ace Anarchy's head and that was his downfall. He was also trash to begin with. (but a great villain nonetheless)
16. I still wouldn't trust Nova no matter what she did. At the end of the day she betrayed and lied to y'all several times. And yet she was invited back with open arms.
17. I do believe Honey Harper truly loved Ace and would do anything for him.
18. Most of them were tweens and teens why weren't any of them in school? Was the battle 10 years prior that bad that they shut down all schools. I know for a fact that Magpie had to be 10 years old, why wasn't she in school? Or home schooled?!
19. A great series 10/10
In conclusion: The series was very good and I loved every moment of it. Meyer's never disappoints. I hope someday we get a spinoff involving Magpie and how she grew up without her family and a reunion with Nova.
Maybe we can even get a fast forward a couple years and Magpie could be a bad guy just like her uncle Ace?
I really did enjoy the series and I can't wait to see more books by Marissa Meyer. She really is a talented author and I love her work. Tell me down below what you thought of the series.

****SPOILERS****
5/5
Adrian watched Nightmare die, or did he? He continues to replay the events at Cosmopolis Park in his mind, but he can’t seem to shake the idea that Nightmare isn’t really gone. Without Nightmare, Adrian has switched his focus to questioning Winston Pratt, the Puppeteer, who is in Renegades’ custody. Adrian is sure that the Anarchists know who killed his mother, and he is determined to bring that person to justice. Adrian remains conflicted about his role as the Sentinel, whom the Renegades have deemed a reckless vigilante and not the hero that Adrian had intended.
After having successfully infiltrated the Renegades and having earned the trust of her teammates, Nova’s next mission is to find Ace’s helmet. Her request to begin working part-time in the artifacts department is approved, and the helmet remains under very minimal security, but retrieving it will have its own set of difficulties. Captain Chromium was unable to destroy the helmet, instead he secured it inside an indestructible box made of chromium. Nova must figure out how to get the helmet out of the box and out of Renegades headquarters without the theft being traced back to her.
The Council calls a meeting to unveil a new resource in the fight against evil, Agent N. Agent N is an antidote derived from Max’s blood samples that has the ability to permanently strip a prodigy of their power. Each of the patrol unity will be equipped with a means of administering the antidote should it be required, but no one (except Nova) seems to be putting much thought into the ramifications of having such an ability. For Nova, the idea of Agent N immediately sparks questions about prodigy rights, and the potential for patrol units to abuse their power.
Nova and the other Anarchists meet with Ace to discuss the new threat surrounding Agent N. It becomes clear to Nova that Ace is dying, and that he will not last much longer without his helmet. The desire to save her uncle expedites Nova’s plans involving the helmet. Ace also asks that Nova continue to earn Adrian’s trust. Nova is conflicted when it comes to Adrian. Ace wants her to win Adrian’s affection, but Nova realizes that the feelings that she is feeling for him may actually be authentic. Nova must remind herself that these emotions don’t matter, that Adrian will have nothing to do with her once her identity is revealed.
The Anarchists plan to steal Ace’s helmet while most of the organization is busy at a fundraising gala. Nova is the one to sneak into Renegades HQ, but the mission quickly escalates and a battle ensues. The rest of Nova’s team is lead to the ruins of the cathedral, where they discover that Ace is alive and they take him into custody. Back at HQ, Max is injured during the fight and Adrian arrives just in time to rush him to the hospital. Convinced that Nightmare is responsible for Max’s critical condition, Adrian vows to destroy Nightmare and asks Nova to help him.
Archenemies ends with several cliffhangers. It is made clear that the Renegades plan to publically neutralize Ace, and Nova does not plan to let that happen. Max’s condition is also left open-ended, and both Nova and Adrian still have their secret identities intact, though suspicions are rising. Archenemies sets up what will no doubt be a huge battle and several crucial reveals that will occur in the next novel. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Novemeber for Supernova.
Archenemies was just as good as Renegades, with the perfect amount of superhero kitsch and science fiction-based thrills. Nova’s struggle between hating the Renegades, but liking her friends (and even possibly loving Adrian) is felt throughout the novel. Her increasing tension and turmoil reinforce her character’s insistence that not everything is black and white. Nova believes in a world of shades of gray, and its possible that Adrian is beginning to feel the same way. Meyer’s fun and unique characters are relatable as well as fantastical, and the world she has created is one that I very much enjoy. I highly recommend Archenemies, as well as Renegades, to anyone looking for a fun read that is unlike anything that have read before. Do not let the superhero theme dissuade you. Meyer’s take on spandex and capes is completely unique.

SOUTH HAVEN’S CELEBRITY OF THE MONTH OUR FEMALE CELEBRITY OF THE MONTH IS: LILI REINHART!
For our first Celebrity of The Month we have chosen Lili Reinhart! to be our first female celebrity! We got to hang out with this great girl for a few hours and ask her some cool and juicy questions at A Girl and A Diner, not to mention those damn good milkshakes, but those weren’t the only thing stirring!
Read Lili’s Questions Below!
So Lili let’s get this out of the way before we get into the awesome questions. Hi love, how does it feel to be SHGOSSIP’S very first celebrity of the month?!
Honestly? So unreal, I mean there were so many amazing contenders. All the girls around here are so wonderful, I would’ve been happy if I didn’t get the award and someone else got it, I mean I was up against my best friend for the final! But the fact that my fellow residents chose me is so much amazingness to handle!
Alright now for some juicy stuff. We know there are many gorgeous celebrities around South Haven, can you name someone you might have your eye on?
Right to the juicy secrets huh? Of course we know I took a break from a special boy in here, and although we had our reasons. I couldn’t be happier that we found our way back together. You know the saying “if you care about something, set it free and if it comes back it was meant to be?” I think that stands. I couldn’t be happier with such a down to earth and deep man to make me see the world in a different eye... Specifically through a photographers eye. Still don’t know who I am talking about? Well, his name reminds with Hole.
You’ve been in SH for quite a while right? How has it been for you? And why did you come here?
South Haven has been such an amazing experience. I am so thankful that I was able to move to such a beautiful town. I get to start over in a way. I mean the reason why I came here was to find a place to call home, and I was lucky enough to find SH to do it justice for me! We all need to find our getaway once in a while, I believe that this turned out to be more than a getaway. A real and true home.
Now some cool and fun questions. Do you think you could settle down in SH? Maybe have a couple of kids, get married, blah blah blah?
Oh Absolutely! South Haven just has that kind of homey feel to it. I could totally see myself settling down here for sure. Kids and marriage is of course something I want one day, my saying is always “if it happens it happens if it doesn’t it doesn’t” I will be happy just to settle down with the perfect person in a perfect place! Whatever happens after that I can cross that bridge when I come to it, as long as I am happy and surrounded by the one I love. That’s all I really care about.
And lastly, let’s get a little personal. On our very own SH Daily you were mentioned to have been flirting with Mr Flirt it up: Chris Pratt. Care to elaborate?
Come on it’s a new town and things are normally said. Chris and I have quite a fun banter to us, competing with my best friend Mel was something I didn’t exactly like to see. However, it was just harmless flirty banter. I know I am quite content with the person I am with now, so anything from there is just fun and harmless. If I am going to flirt, it’s going to be with the person I have now... And he will see more than just a flirty side but a romantic one as well. All I can say is that I really hope Chris finds someone like I have, I couldn’t wish for anything else! He deserves that much so he doesn’t get caught flirting on the gossip again!
QUICK FACTS & FAVORITES
FAMILY: Tessa & Chloe Reinhart (Sisters) Amy Reinhart (Mama)
PETS (if not do you want some?): I think the whole town knows how much I want one! However, I am going to head out and get one tomorrow!
FAVORITE SPOT IN TOWN: Beach Side or Central Park
BEST FRIEND IN SH: Melissa Benoist or Noah Centineo
BEST FOOD PLACE: A Girl & A Diner
CELEB’S LIFE YOU WANT: Leonardo DiCaprio - because um hello?

TO US
Recommended Song: Solider - Gavin DeGraw

Xoxo South Haven Daily.

Part 3: A man named Ace Anarchy
18 years old Ace - Age of Anarchy Year 1
Boom.
    Boom.
    BOOM.
Margot and Honey grumbled in tandem.
    One year without  sleep.
    One. Year.
    They deserved that, he guessed.
“Why? Why can't they do this at noon?” Honey complained, as she sat up.
Carrie, who was already awake, handed her a cup of tea.
“It wouldn’t be as annoying as it is at this hour,” she replied and went down on of the side aisles of the cathedral.
Ace sighed and sat up. Every day, every morning, it was the same: civilians demanding their blood, police thirsty for justice and even prodigies who wanted to help them and were there only to annoy those who annoyed them. It was a vicious cycle that did not seem to end and only generated lazy fights from the Anarchists’ part, who had not slept well for a year.
    One. Year.
They must have seen it coming, of course. The government's duty was to oppose them, imprison them, fight them. While all of its first acts of destruction, the assassination of the mayor and the invasion of the cathedral had created  enough chaos for the next ten years, Gatlon’s government remained vigilant and resisting. Every day there were more deaths, more chaos, and more anarchy. The spark that the Anarchists had generated was turning into a fire, and that generated the most pleasant sensation of pride in Ace's chest.
But that did not imply that he did not want to sleep one night on a mattress and not a mass bench, surrounded by his fellow Anarchists who slept just like him: terrible.
They had tried to sleep in the catacombs, found by Ace the first week they spent there, while he was sniffing one of the side aisles. Running his fingers over the walls, it all started when he perceived a void in them, so he formed a ‘door’ and found himself with narrow stairs and descents. Without hesitation, Ace went down the stairs and found the most beautiful and creepy place he had ever witnessed: the catacombs. Dark, so full of bones that it was practically the only thing visible, and calm. Very, very calm. Within a minute, he told the others about his discovery, and they tried to sleep there however, all but Margot (and Ace, of course) were overwhelmed by the coldness of the place and preferred to return to the noisy quality of the main nave.
Ace and Margot followed them, as they had all agreed to sleep in the same place; in case they smashed the barrier that Carrie, Bruce and Ace had built (with the houses of the old cathedral’s neighbors and a couple of Carrie's plants) to prevent anyone from entering the cathedral except them (Carrie, Margot and Ace, the only Anarchists whose true identity still remained unknown for the public), who went out once a week to buy food and other supplies.
    It was a hard life.
But at least they had a roof over their heads and the ability to steal food without making a fuss.
Honey stood up and started walking in circles, searching for something while she muttered under her breath. She had a corner all to herself, since no one wanted to sleep next to ten combs of ten different varieties of bees and wasps. Her corner was draped over because she considered privacy was a 'right' and not a 'privilege'; luckily, she did, since the mess in that place made Ace want to  tidy everything up in one blink.
For his part, Ace slept on the very chancel, next to Mary (not to say under her). He had his bed-bench (it had been a cathedral bench once, but he and Bruce had rebuilt it so they could lie down ‘comfortably’) and his belongings, all carefully stored in wooden boxes (which had been part of a bench once, too). His corner was simple, but clean and pleasant.
Well, as nice as a Gothic chancel could be.
The rest of them also had the corners of it. Carrie, Bruce and Leroy slept one on each side of the aisles and Henry and Margot slept in the center of the main nave, as they had the fewest belongings (Henry had his clothes and art supplies and Margot had a couple of books and quite high fashion clothes). Carrie had personalized her corner by filling it with bright colors and mostly green; it was a small biome. Bruce and Leroy's (because they slept in the same area) was practically a laboratory and competed with Honey's place for the top spot for ‘messiest corner.’ Ace stayed away from those areas, since he did not need to circulate through them, nor did he want to; from the very moment they had moved there, he started rebuilding parts of the cathedral to turn it into a house (the first thing was a shower, because they needed to wash the blood from their clothes and skin; the second was to install gas for heating and cooking, which had a cost, but it was worth it in order to be able to eat things that did not come out of a package).
It wasn't easy, but it was better than dying in the streets for being themselves.
Ace stood up and put on his helmet. It was the first thing he did every morning: put on his helmet. It was his armor, his sword, his second heart. Without that helmet, he would be nothing at all, and he owed it all to his brother, David. That thought made him want to laugh at how ironic that was, as he knew that his brother didn't totally agree with what Ace had done (and did every day) for prodigies and his release.
A faint smile crept across his face as another boom echoed throughout the nave and it made him tremble a little. He slipped on his leather shoes (stolen shortly before the Gatlon Bridge was destroyed) and cracked his knuckles, rousing himself.
“Good morning, Anarchists,” Ace greeted as he walked down the nave and donned his black blazer with gold details. “Shall we end this for once and for all?”
Margot, who was lying on her 'bed' with a frown, stood up abruptly and with her hand, she threatened to grab her hat that wasn't there. The girl snorted.
“Where’s my hat?” Margot demanded, furious, because she needed her hat to be able to go outside and fight the military and the police without revealing her identity (although it made no sense, since her entire family was dead and she was already exposed every day anyway). She said it was to ‘keep up the appearances.’ Ace bit back a laugh, snapped his fingers and with his hands he handed Margot her hat. He had seen it the day before at Honey's mess.
“Thanks,” she murmured and put it on. She was ready now, since she never changed her clothes except when she washed them in her morning showers (like everyone except Honey to tell the truth, she had ten dresses in the same colors). Henry suddenly roused himself, and ran a hand over his face to reactivate its blood circulation. Ace continued to parade down the nave.
“Leroy, Bruce, wake up,” Ace asked, in a slightly singsong voice and he ducked into the boys' corner against his will. They were the only ones who slept well, either because they were heavy sleepers or because they used sleeping substances. Both were likely to be true.
Ace resisted  the urge to hold  his nose because of the smells that place was emitting, and clapped his hands to wake them up. boys, who slept soundly in their beds. The applause didn't work out, so Ace decided to go rough mode and directly split their beds in half. Leroy and Bruce woke up to splinters and dust, startled, as expected.
“Come on, we have work to do,” Ace encouraged them, and walked away from that stinking corner. He did not go to wake Carrie up since she was always the first to wake up, she put the ‘early’ in ‘the early bird catches the worm.’
And yet, she was already waiting for him at the doors of the cathedral, with all her disguise on her. They nodded at each other, as a greeting. They had a respectful relationship, period, nothing more. While Honey and Margot were a tornado and a fire, Carrie was just the sound of leaves falling to the ground; minimal, indistinguishable.  she gave her opinion only every now and then, and even so, she was the most helpful of the group: she prepared breakfast with Ace every morning, and she was ready for anything, as long as it was in silence (except for the battles of course, that was too much to ask).
    Carrie Harper was undoubtedly indecipherable.
“Morning, Miss Harper,” Ace greeted and smiled behind his helmet.
“Morning, Mr Anarchy,” Carrie replied and handed him a blood-red flower.
    Ace arched an eyebrow.
“It’s for our victory. I know you know what will happen today,” Carrie explained as she pulled on her garden gloves, like she needed them.
“I do, but how do you?” Ace questioned, as he put the flower on the top lapel of his blazer. It gave it a tragic, romantic touch.
   Carrie sighed.
“I have investigated the government's resources and they’re almost run out of them. Most of the soldiers have died, weapons have been stolen and functionaries have quit. They have no chance against us.”
Ace smiled, pleased that his analysis had been perfect.
“And why will we win today?”
“We will win today because the soldiers, tanks and helicopters that are here now aren't from them but from outside the government. They have reached  out to them for help and they listened, thinking we'd be easy peasy. But we are not, so they will be surprised when they see what we can do.”
    Ace nodded.
“That’s correct. They don’t know we are prodigies, and we’ll use that advantage against them. Once they see what we can do, they will never come back,” he explained, very happy to know that he was not the only one who understood strategy.
Honey and Margot made it to the door in two runs. Margot applied mascara to Honey while the other applied red lipstick on the other’s lips. That image gave Ace a sense of familiarity that he hadn't felt in a long time. Not that kind of familiarity.
Bruce, Leroy and Henry came after them, only in a messier way (although it was true that they were always like this).
“Ready, Anarchists?” Ace roared and his roar echoed throughout the cathedral.
“Always,” Margot replied,  and Ace kicked the doors open with an invisible kick. They all came out after her, followed by their battle cry.
    “At all costs!”
Ace undid a fraction of the wall so they could get out; Bruce and Carrie did the same. Thunder and lightning invaded the sky in seconds, and millions of bees generated deafening hums as they exited the same place as them. Through the corner of his eye, Ace saw how Henry melted on a policeman, until he turned to charred meat, and also how Leroy threw acid bombs from the top of his lungs. Everything was screaming, explosions, buzzing.
Ace rose from the ground one, two, ten meters, until he was skimming the top of the bell tower. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to feel the  show  without seeing it. Time slowed down for a couple of seconds, and that was enough for him to feel everything around him, moldable like a mass. This is how, when they shot him in the chest, he was able to turn the bullets against whoever had shot them. When bombs were thrown at him, he threw his own tanks at them, then blew them up. When his companions needed help, he shielded them with walls or cars, or attacked back for them. He ripped off roofs from nearby houses, underground pipes, buses, wheels, even firearms. Everything served as a weapon to destroy the enemy, you just had to use it in such a way.
The best thing was that nothing supposed a superhuman effort.
Not at all, he was having a better time than ever.
He felt… powerful. Yes, very powerful. Almost invincible.
An unstoppable laugh rose up his throat and manifested itself in his acts, as each laugh was synchronized with an act. Hahaha, a tank crushed over ten soldiers. Hahaha, a helicopter turned to ashes. Hahaha, metal pipes shot like arrows. Hahaha, walls crashing into flesh, and bones breaking. Hahaha, skulls cracking from blows to the back of necks. Hahaha, blood on the ground. Hahaha, airplanes compacting like cans. Hahaha, Anarchists laughing. Hahaha, hahaha.
All the prodigies were laughing at those who had laughed at them, while going through the same act of violence.
They shouldn't have laughed at us, Ace and James thought.
     And they were right.
The battle lasted two hours. Only that. Nothing and no one was left, only the  Anarchists and their beloved cathedral. The battle ended gradually, like everything else; they practically realized it was over when they had almost killed each other. They never stopped laughing or smiling; Ace descended gently from the sky and entered the cathedral with his companions, who were covered in dust, blood and other fluids. They all had a triumphant and empowered smile drawn on their lips. They were proud of each other and of themselves.
Who wouldn't be, after such a historic victory?
Well done, Ace, James whispered in approval. Well done.

Bethune Cookman’s Professors Speak Out!
Dear Graduates of Bethune-Cookman:
First, congratulations! We are so proud of what you have accomplished. You have studied, prepared, planned, learned, and have earned what our parents, grandparents, and ancestors have had to fight, scrape, and die for in this nation. We are proud of you for that!
WATCHING YOU STAND AND TURN YOUR BACKS TO HER MAKES US ELATED. OVERJOYED. HUMBLED. IT WAS A DAY AND A MOMENT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT CELEBRATING YOU AND WHAT YOU ACHIEVED.
Beyond becoming graduates, we are floating this morning thinking about how you stood up to your university and protested the woefully under-qualified Secretary of Education who attempted to address you at your graduation yesterday. Watching you stand and turn your backs to her makes us elated. Overjoyed. Humbled. It was a day and a moment that should have been about celebrating you and what you achieved.
The world watched you protest the speaker you never should have had. We cheered as we saw so many of you refuse to acquiesce in the face of threats and calls for complicity. Your actions fit within a long tradition of Black people fighting back against those who attack our institutions and our very lives with their anti-Black policies and anglo-normative practices. Betsy DeVos’ commitment to dismantling public education and her egregious framing of historically Black colleges and universities as “pioneers” in school choice are just two examples of why she should never have been invited to speak at an event celebrating Black excellence.
We shared your outrage when it was announced that DeVos would serve as your commencement speaker and receive an honorary degree. As your administration hid behind the rhetoric of “learning from people with divergent perspectives,” current students objected. Alumni petitioned. We watched from a distance wondering how but knowing why this moment was taken from honoring you.
But then, you turned it around, figuratively and literally. We beamed with joy as we watched videos and read tweets of how you took your graduation back to honor yourselves. To honor your founder. To honor our ancestors. To honor us all.
You represent the best of Mother Mary McLeod Bethune who took the little she had and built an institution that remains committed to bringing out the best in us. You are the best of us. We, the undersigned, are Black professors and college administrators— some of us at HBCUs, some of us at PWIs, some of us HBCU alums— and we thank you. We salute you. And we love you.
Hail, Wildcats!
