Everyone knows the story of Cinderella, whether you grew up with Walt Disney’s 1950 animated film, the Rodgers and Hammerstein television musical, or the European folktale. Still, adapting a beloved story for a new generation means connecting past and present. The cast and crew of 2021’s Cinderella was intent on innovation. The film, which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on September 3rd, reimagines the story as an uplifting musical about the power of self-discovery.

Unlike her predecessors Camila Cabello’s “Ella” doesn’t aspire to life as a royal, instead she’s busy building a fashion empire. The heroine's shift from dreamer to proactive entrepreneur makes for a different kind of narrative, one the forces behind the project hope will inspire young girls. “It is a completely new telling of the story. I feel like other fairytales have values that are more antiquated and don’t reflect women accurately,” shared Cabello from Los Angeles. “In this Cinderella, she has dreams and ambitions, and she wants to save herself, not have a prince or anybody else save her.”

Given Ella’s goals, much of the modernization is expressed via wardrobe. For costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, telling Ella’s story meant starting from scratch. “With Cinderella you of course think of the blue dress, the glass slipper, etc. but that wasn’t how we were going to approach this story,” she says. “This is a brand new retelling so we wanted to put a twist on it and embrace a new point of view, [one] that promotes female empowerment and individuality.”

Adept at creating jaw dropping costumes for immersive fictional worlds—her costumes for Bridgerton, The Greatest Showman, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil are characters unto themselves—Mirojnick looked to the soundtrack inspiration. “Everything becomes concrete once you read and listen to the music,”she says. “The songs have fairytale, romantic, and modern aspects and an [overarching] theme about breaking the glass ceiling.” Within Ella’s wardrobe those concepts translate into period looks that feature contemporary touches and pieces that highlight her uniqueness. Still, Mirojnick was careful not to foreshadow Ella’s princess transformation. “From the beginning [of the design process] we took into consideration that her clothes shouldn’t be too obvious,” says Mirojnick. “So you have her in neutral colors, natural fabrics, linens, but with modern touches like her belts.”

The character’s interest in design was key to understanding her motivations. “One of the things I realized is that you have a Cinderella who is [effectively] designing herself,” says Mirojnick. “Ella’s closet is at the center of our film. The costumes capture her spirit, how design empowers her, and how nothing will get her down. Camila, who is one of the most authentic and joyous spirits I’ve met in a long time, embodies this perfectly.” For Cabello, who describes her character’s look as innovative and daring, collaborating with Mirojnick throughout the design process was a dream. “I loved my work costumes! They were so comfortable, but still had Ella’s swag to them,” she says. “Ellen and her team were so passionate, full of joy for what they were doing. They were so in love with Ella and the values she represented. In a time where women’s self expression is so limited, she uses fashion to express herself. Even when she’s dressing for work she has accessories in her hair, and puts unique details in her corsets. I think it shows how much self expression and authenticity is important to her.”

Oscreen Ella, uses the tools at her disposal to create, but she’s still subject to the limitations of being a young, cash-strapped designer. “For the ball she is making her own gown, so we had to hone in on what she would create and what she might have difficulty making,” says Mirojnick. “That is until the Fab G comes along.”

Audiences know Disney’s ‘Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo’-singing, benevolent godmother, but Billy Porter’s Fab G is a completely different take on the magical mentor figure. Porter, with his outré style and endless swagger, needed more than a powder blue cape. So Mirojnick whipped up a gilded gown with reflective shades inspired by butterfly wings. “The Fab G was born from the monarch butterfly,” explains Mirojnick. “I presented a whole series of sketches to Billy. It was important to him that the costume represent both masculine and feminine elements. It all came together in a couple of conversations. I had to take into consideration movement and how the character would emerge onto the scene because it had to be fabulous.” Equally striking are the Fab G’s accessories which run the gamut from a glittery wand, custom Jimmy Choo boots, and a Mercedes Benz carriage that Porter dreamed up with the automaker. “It’s all remarkable,” says Mirojnick. “They truly went all out in creating the design.”

Of course, the ride isn’t as important as the destination. In this case, that would be the party thrown for Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Robert, in order to find his bride. Ella arrives in a glittering ball gown whipped up by Fab G, but she isn’t the only contender. A host of princesses from across the kingdom show up to meet the royal family and try their luck. In other adaptations this plays out as a Bachelor style spectacle where young women compete against each other for a guy, but director Kay Cannon and Mirojnick wanted to avoid that cliche. “What was most important to us was that this world be global,” says Mirojnick. “Originally we planned on having designers from other countries each contribute a design, but [that] proved too difficult last year. So we went about it our own way with each princess representing their respective nation.” The change also allowed for cameos, like Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe. “The ball is about bringing the community together,” says Mirojnick “They may be vying for attention but they also support each other.”

While the protagonist isn’t looking to become a princess, the story doesn’t break with tradition entirely. The clothes—which will be revealed to the world during the Mercedes Benz ‘Dressed for a Dream” livestreamed fashion showon August 28th—are the stuff of fantasy. During the show the costumes will be worn on the runway by individuals who embody the progressive messages of the film. Both Cabello and Mirojnick, who serve as Mercedes Benz brand ambassadors for the project, hope that viewers find the movie, fashion show, and subsequent campaign inspiring. “We’re going to have models walking the fashion show who have incredible success stories. They’re our everyday Ellas,” says Mirojnick. “It’s an honor to be able to partner with Mercedes on this [and] at this moment in time where we can celebrate female empowerment and amplify stories that show girls what they’re capable of.”

That sentiment was echoed by Cabello. “[The fashion show] is Ella’s dream come true! I think women seeing other women be strong, ambitious, and supporting each other is so important,” she says. “Helping each other realize our power and celebrating each other taking control of our lives is so important for young people to be watching, and for that to be the world they grow up in.”

For anyone that’s new to this, this is how I keep track of all of the things I enjoy and/or create throughout the year. I have literally been doing this since I had a livejournal.

It’s a nice little snippet of my life and helps to organize my brain.

Thanks @rubys-finger-cymbals for the request! This is a song shot for “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman.

Under a Moonless Sky

Summary: Cinder and Kai discuss their desire to be with one another—Kai begs her to not leave him, but Cinder insists that they have no future together as monarchs of two different countries. (WC: 2k)

“You know I want you,” Kai said, a single tear tracing the angular curvature of his face. Cinder wrung her hands together, longing to brush it from his cheek. Her own eyes burned, despite their lack of tears. The tears that she wished would come; the ones she knew would never appear. Her inability to shed a single tear made her feel so inhuman. She couldn’t cry with this wonderful boy as fate tore them apart for the last time. She couldn’t shed a tear for the end of them.

“I want to be with you more than anything, Cinder. It’s not a secret— and I know you feel the same. I know you love me. I know you don’t want to end this. I know it, Cinder. I know it.” Kai bit his lower lip, his eyes turning away from hers as the tears streamed down his face.

Cinder looked away, trying to contain the awful choking noises that were attempting to escape her. It hurt too much to watch: the boy she loved, crying over their failure— her inability to commit to their relationship.

“Kai, I do. I want to be with you. If we lived in a perfect world, we would already be married and living our happily ever after. But life doesn’t work that way.” Cinder’s voice broke on the words, everything within her screaming to end it all. To stop the pain.

When Cinder had taken the Lunar Throne, she had known that it would take sacrifice, but she had never dreamed that she would have to lose the one thing most important to her. But it wouldn’t work— it couldn’t. No one on Luna would accept him as their Queen, and the Earthens had already shown that they would more readily welcome a cockroach as their Empress than her.

She had tried every angle, but everywhere she turned, she was only met by opposition. There was no way for her to change their minds, and Kai was too blind—too loving— to see it. Only she could save them both. She would make the hard decision, even if it destroyed her.

“Our hands are tied, Kai. The future is set. It’s just not in our stars.” Cinder reached out, clasping both of his hands within her own. Kai shuddered. “So please, don’t make this harder than it has to be.”

“No,” Kai said, dropping her hands. He turned away from her, running a hand through his hair, messing it up in the most beautiful way possible. He paced away from her, his footsteps echoing off the floor and to the ornate ceiling of the throne room of Artemisia Palace.

When he turned back to face her, the tears were gone. Rage consumed his features, burning all the sadness from his countenance until his face shone red.

“No?” Cinder asked, her voice small.

“No,” Kai said, firm. “You don’t get to just decide that this isn’t our destiny, Cinder. So stop saying our hands are tied. You don’t get to say that it’s not in the cards just because fate is pulling you miles away and out of reach from me to this awful moon.”

Cinder clenched her jaw, teeth grinding together painfully. He was making this whole ordeal terribly painful. Couldn’t he grasp that she didn’t want to do this? She had to do it.

“Kai,” Cinder started, her control panel scripting that she needed to calm down. She pushed the text away. “I don’t want to do this, but-”

“Don’t say you can’t, Cinder!” Kai yelled, throwing his hands into the air. “You don’t just get to decide to end it all. Not after everything we’ve been through. You’re here, in my heart,” Kai grabbed at his chest the crisp white of his dress shirt wrinkling under her fingers. “And no one—no one—can stop me from deciding that you’re my destiny.”

Cinder turned away, unable to look at Kai any longer. He was both the same sweet boy that she once met at the marketplace, and an entirely new being all at once. There was no longer that shyness, but the same passion still existed within him.

“What if…” Kai’s voice trailed off, and Cinder turned around to look at him, the flowing lavender of her dress swishing with the movement.

“What, Kai?” Cinder asked, melancholy drying her voice to the rasp of the wind. She longed for this day and all of its awfulness to be over.

Kai placed a hand on her shoulder, his thumb brushing the skin of her neck and causing a shiver to course down her spine.

“What if we rewrite the stars? What if we change what they say, make them claim you as mine instead?

Cinder released a dry laugh that doubled as a sob. She turned around, falling into Kai’s arms. He held her tight, rocking her back and forth. He pressed a soft kiss to her temple, and his fingers played with the loose strands of hair falling from her meticulous bun.

“If we rewrite the stars,” Kai continued, "then nothing could keep us apart. You would be the one I was meant to be with; you would be the one I was meant to find, long ago, in that market.”

“But it’s not up to us, Kai.” Cinder mumbled into his shirt, breathing in the clean scent that was Kai. “We don’t get to rewrite the stars.”

“Cinder, it’s up to you,” Kai’s voice was tight, his arms pulling her closer than ever, not possessive, not angry, but afraid. He was scared to let go, terrified that if he did, she would leave forever. “It’s up to me. No one else gets to say what we get to be. We own our lives— we make our own decisions, not the countries we rule. So why don’t we rewrite the stars, make the whole world ours. Be with each other, tonight, and for the rest of our lives.”

Cinder drew away from Kai, taking in a deep breath. He was watching her, gauging her reaction, face terribly sincere. It pained her to watch him.

“You think this is easy?” She brushed her fingers against the satin of her dress, pulling at the fitted bodice. She tugged the long sleeves down, hoping that it would conceal the trembling of her hands. “You think I don’t want to run to you?”

Kai stared, lips parted, expression pained. His eyes shone in the dying light, the copper pooling to liquid gold.

“There are mountains between us. Stars converging inside the gaps. There aren’t doors that we can just walk through, no matter how much we want to.” Cinder closed her eyes, trying to gather herself and all the emotions raging within.

Cinder opened her eyes, watching as the boy before her broke— shattered into a million little pieces. “I know you think that it will work, because when it’s just you and me, within these walls, everything’s okay. But when we go outside, you’ll wake up and see that it’s hopeless after all. No one can rewrite the stars.”

“I won’t just let them tear us apart, Cinder.” Kai said, brushing a hand under his eyes. “They don’t get to decide who we are, or who we love. It’s our decision.”

“But how can you say you’ll be mine while everything keeps us apart?” Cinder asked, her heart begging both for his words to sway her and for his words to change her mind.

Kai huffed, pulling at his hair. He shrugged off his suit jacket and threw it to the floor, eyes enraged. Cinder watched as he stared at the discarded jacket, reading the pain within the set of his features.

“Then why did I meet you, Cinder? Why would fate throw us together so painfully if we weren’t meant to be?”

“Because maybe I wasn’t the one you were meant to find. Or perhaps it was for the sake of getting me to where I am today, on Luna’s throne.” Cinder walked to the ledge that overlooked Artemisia Lake, the one that Thorne had almost fallen from— the one that she had jumped from. There was no sun, but this time of day on Earth would have brought a beautiful sunset. She longed to see a sunset— a real one, with colors of orange and red and purple. She wanted to look up every night and see the soft glow of the moon, not the gentle gleam of the blue planet. But most of all, she wanted to be with Kai, on Earth, living her happiest life.

But it could not be.

Kai walked over to stand beside her, leaning against a pillar as he looked down at the lake. Hardly any light shone, but the final rays of artificial light cast shadows upon his exhausted face. They were too young to be this sad and tired.

“It’s not up to you,” Cinder breathed. “And it’s not up to me. We don’t get to decide who we get to be with, especially when everyone is telling us what we can be. We can’t rewrite the stars, we can’t make the world ours, and we can’t be together anymore, Kai.”

Cinder slid to the floor, her feet dangling over the edge of the ledge. Kai sat down beside her, the two sitting in a mournful silence.

“Remember when you dropped your foot over this ledge, right after you thought I was about to propose to you?” Kai asked, not looking at her.

“Of course,” Cinder whispered, sneaking a glance at him out of the corner of her eye.

Silence sat between them like a third person, heavy and unbearable with its discomfort. Both longed to fly far away, or to fall into the lake with one another, never to be seen again. But it was impossible. So impossible.

Everything was impossible, even rewriting the stars.

“I thought about proposing then,” Kai said. “I really wanted to, but I knew that you had things to take care of here, and I didn’t want to distract you.”

Cinder smiled softly, leaning her head against the white pillar, one arm wrapped around it.

“I was going to propose for real next month, at Scarlet and Wolf’s wedding.” Kai’s voice quivered. Cinder turned to look at him, but his face was turned down to his lap. “I want you more than anything else in the world, but if this is what you want, I’ll leave.”

Kai looked up, his eyes meeting Cinder’s. A single tear slipped from his eye, falling rapidly down, down, down, and into the lake below.

Pushing herself away from the pillar, Cinder scootched her way to Kai’s side, wrapping her arms around his neck.

And she kissed him, trying to convey all the hurt and agony through the gentle pressure of her lips. He kissed her back, hesitant at first, then gently, cupping her face with his hands, his fingers playing with the soft tendrils of her hair, just as they always did.

When they broke away, they remained within each others arms, clutching one another tightly. Cinder rested her head on the crook between his neck and shoulders, breathing in her love one last time. He pressed his lips to her shoulder, making the ache within her burn.

“You know I want you,” Cinder whispered. “But I can’t have you. I can’t be with you. We’re bound to break, love. We’ll crack and crumble and fall." Cinder let out a sob. "We’re bound to break, and my hands are tied.”

Kai shook and Cinder trembled, but they both clung to each other, one crying tears as the other longed to mimic.

They stayed like that for a long while, until Cinder gained the strength to let go. She released Kai, even as he begged her to stay and the tears slipped silently from his brown eyes. But she stood, wordless, and walked away, never once turning back to look at the boy she loved.

Perhaps she knew that if she did, she wouldn’t be able to leave her boy, sitting all alone, under a moonless sky.

Thank you @gallifrey1sburning for tagging me and therefore wanting to get to know me better 😊 I weirdly enjoy doing these things so here goes!

Rules: tag 8 people you’d like to get to know better

Favourite colour: Green I think. Especially a rich, emerald shade and I’m inexplicably drawn to any and all green midi dresses at the moment.

Last song I listened to: My Spotify can’t agree… on my laptop it was apparently Rise Like a Phoenix by Conchita Wurst, but my phone says Rewrite The Stars from The Greatest Showman (not that I can remember actively listening to either of those recently).

Favourite musician: I’ve been on a bit of a Hamilton binge recently, so I suppose I’ll say the entire original Broadway cast. I also find myself always going back to Peter Hollens or Pentatonix this past year but my music tastes are all over the place from Ava Max to Halestorm to Marc Anthony to Alfie Boe.

Last film I watched: I’m currently watching Falling Inn Love for about the 10th time (I adore a cheese fest!) But yesterday I watched the RBG documentary before work and the day before I watched the amazing Enola Holmes.

Last tv show I watched: I think it was Virgin River… Or something like A Place In the Sun. I can’t remember honestly because I’m usually not fully focused on whatever’s on TV.

Favourite character: From what? It’s not something I think about a lot outside of fandom and now my perception of those characters has been changed by fanon. I really enjoy writing Ginny Weasley and I think the films did her dirty; she has some great moments in the books. Minerva McGonagall as well for that matter but I do actually enjoy Maggie Smith’s portrayal of her in the films. As for other things; Merlin from, well, Merlin; Dr Kay Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell’s books (she was a great, accomplished female role model to read about when I was younger); Merida; Emily from Devil Wears Prada (ooo controversial); and just for you @gallifrey1sburning , 10th Doctor and Donna Noble.

Sweet, spicy or savoury: Definitely sweet but I have been craving a curry for the past week!

Sparkling water, tea or coffee: COFFEE!!! Give me all the coffee.

Pets: Two cats, brothers we adopted about 10 years ago with completely different personalities. Bracken is a huge lump of a cat and will not leave you alone until you sit down and he can sit on your knee. He’s very loud and generally steals food off his brother when we’re not looking. Definitely more of an inside, lazy cat but he’s had some interesting adventures in his time, falling asleep in the back of the neighbour’s Landrover then having to make his way grumpily back home after the neighbour has driven the couple of miles or so to work. Alfie, the smaller of the two, will quite happily stay outside all day doing god knows what! But we rarely see him between mealtimes and then he suddenly gets ridiculously attentive. He doesn’t meow but he will climb all over you, purring and drooling until you give in and head for the food.

These two are so affectionate with each other that it sickens others sometimes

Kai loves that Barnaby is capable of lifting him up, it always makes him laugh

Lots of cuddles and affection is shared between these two

Kai tends to sneak into Barnaby's dorm late at night, they have agreed on that

Barnaby always cheers Kai on during quidditch, to which his housemates look really confused

They help each other study, even if both don't understand some subjects, they help each other

Kai loves holding Barnaby's hand and will swing both their hands back and forth while walking to their next class

Barnaby loves seeing Kai in his sweaters, he finds is hilarious how small Kai looks in them, because Barnaby is both broader and a little taller then Kai

When one of them is upset, the other will pull them in a long and warm hug

Kai enjoys playing with Barnaby's hair and often puts it in ridiculous styles

Sometimes you can heat them talk about their future and what they want to do

Whenever Kai gets hurt during quidditch Barnaby will worry his head off until he is allowed to see Kai from Madam Pomfrey

Kai likes to murmur french in Barnaby's ear and continues to watch the confusion appear on the slytherin's face

These two are just toothrotting sweet and are just head over heels for each other

Writing/drawing request the ninja on a movie night

Thanks for the request! It's a little very dialogue heavy, sorry if you don't like that kind of stuff!! Hope it turned out ok!

“What do you mean we can’t watch Starfarer?” Jay pouted, slumping against his bean bag chair. Kai rolled his eyes, twirling the TV remote in his hand, “I mean, we’ve watched those movies to many times. You can literally quote every. single. line” “And you got to choose the movie last week” Cole added, poking his head from the kitchen where he was helping Zane set up the snacks. Kai gestured to Cole, as if to add emphasis to his point, “And you got to choose last week, Jay…..Thank you, Cole” “No problem” “But it’s a good series!” Jay insisted, looking around the room for backup. Eventually his gaze fell upon their blonde leader, whom he pointed to. “C’mon, you agree, right Lloyd? We should rewatch Starfarer tonight…?” Everyone, including the ninja in the kitchen, looked over at Lloyd, who suddenly felt very awkward at the sudden attention. He coughed slightly. “A-actually…I was gonna suggest the new Spiderman movie, the one where they’re from different dimensions. It seemed cool...” Looking over at Jay, he mouthed a quick “I’m sorry”. Jay slumped further into the bean bag chair, looking slightly betrayed. Nya came over and placed a hand on his shoulder. “How about you and I have a Starfarer marathon some time? I can never get the characters names straight anyway, you could help me?” Jay seemed to light up a bit, both at the idea of watching his favorite movie and at getting to spend time with Nya. “Really?! You wanna watch the whole series!?” Nya smiled, sitting down next her boyfriend in his beanbag chair and laying her head against his shoulder, “Of course, means I get to spend time with you right?” Jay grinned in response, though before he could actually respond, Kai interrupted by loudly clearing his throat. “Ookaayy, now that that’s over- What are we gonna watch tonight? My votes on Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” “If I have to hear one more person say “Radical”,” Nya interjected, “I’m going to lose it. I say we watch US. That trailer was terrifying.” Lloyd notably shrunk at the mention of a horror movie, “Does…does it have to be from the horror genre?” Nya grimaced slightly, having forgotten her little brother’s fear of horror and gore, “Sorry Lloyd…we don’t have to choose it” The blonde ninja shook his head, “I’ll just...cover my eyes during the spooky bits…if we choose it, I’ll be fine,” he cleared his throat, “Anyway, my vote is still Spider-Man: Into the Spider- Verse” “I can’t believe Bill and Ted got shot down” Kai, apparently, was done holding his peace. “It’s a decent movie! “ He dropped the remote onto the couch with a huff, as if to affirm his point. “That’s what I said! “ Jay piped up, his slight pout returning, “But noo, we’ve watched Starfarer to many times for it to be decent!” Nya and Lloyd watched the ensuing argument, a mix of dread, exasperation, and boredom spreading across their faces. The two brunettes glared at each other, spouting off teasing nicknames and restating previously made points. “Alright! Can we try and choose a movie before the popcorn gets cold?” Luckily for Nya and Lloyd, Cole was there to stop the arguing, placing a bowl of popcorn and a plate of cookies down on a table. Behind him, Zane nodded in agreement, carrying some freshly chilled sodas and a batch of cupcakes. “Yes, or before it becomes a war zone” The icy ninja gave pointed looks to Jay and Kai, who mumbled a couple sorries to their older brothers. Nya sighed in relief, muttering a “thank goodness” before taking two sodas from the table, handing one to Jay, who gratefully accepted it with a kiss to Nya’s forehead. Lloyd immediately lunged for the sweets, taking two cookies in one hand and a cupcake in another. As for Kai…it was his turn to slump against his seat. Once everyone had settled down, the remaining ninja added their votes. “I was thinking we could watch the Greatest Showman,” Cole suggested, taking a handful of popcorn. “Don’t you listen to the soundtrack every day?” Kai looked over at Cole, having come out of his moping just to comment that. The earth ninja frowned. “It’s a good playlist, and you can’t change my mind” and with that, Cole shoved his popcorn into his mouth, having made his point. Kai once again rolled his eyes, “Whatever….” Lloyd swallowed a bite of cookie, looking over at Zane, “What about you Zane? What’s your vote?” The rest of the ninja looked over at the nindroid, waiting for his response. He gave a calm smile. “I would like to watch the recent Transformers: Bumblebee movie. However, it is obvious we will not be able to decide on one single movie, at least not tonight” Before anyone could interrupt, he continued, “I propose that we draw straws. Shortest straw gets to choose the movie?” Zane looked around the room at his brothers and sister, waiting for their responses. After a moment of consideration, the ninja nodded, mumbling their agreements. Zane’s nodded, standing from the couch. “I will find the straws. We shall choose a movie when I return” _____________________________________________________________________ “YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!?!” The outburst came from Kai, as the ninja stared at the shortest straw, which was held in Jay’s hand. The hyper brunette was grinning triumphantly. “HA! We do get to watch Starfarer! Take that Kai!” Jay beamed, marching over to the TV to start up the movie. The rest of the ninja sighed and groaned, with Kai still complaining, as they made their way back to their respective seats. Nya snuggled up to Jay once he returned to the beanbag chair, the blue ninja still beaming. Lloyd grabbed another cookie, curling up on the couch, a small smile on his face as the familiar movie began to play. Cole had kidnapped the popcorn bowl, along with some cupcakes, as he sat next to Lloyd. Zane had taken a spot next to Kai, who seemed so intent on not watching the movie; he’d hidden himself in his hoodie. Occasionally, a frustrated mumble could be heard from the moping fire ninja. At least they weren’t all arguing over the movies this time, last month they’d almost blown up the living room because of a movie disagreement. Not a fun time…..

“I’ll be back in a few days, bug,” Duncan whispered to you softly. “If you need anything you know to let Michael know, okay? And Michael, if anything happens, anything at all, please call me.”

“Dunc,” Michael laughs lightly and placed his hands on the man’s shoulders. “We’ll be fine. Now, go before you miss your flight.”

“Bye daddy,” you pouted and waved at him from under your blanket.

“Bye bug,” he pouts as well and kissed your lips before kissing Michael’s. “I’ll see you both soon.”

You sniffled weakly and whimpered in your blanket. Both sounds caught the attention of your daddies, and if Duncan wasn’t heartbroken before, he certainly was now.

“Bug,” he whispers and gets down on his knees to your side. “Don’t cry, okay? You’re a big girl, right? Will you be a good girl with Michael while I’m gone?”

“Yes,” you hiccuped, tears beginning to roll down your pink cheeks. “O–Ok–kay.”

“Dunc, your ride’s here,” Michael announces as he watches you two with a crestfallen look. “Be safe, okay?”

“I love you,” Duncan whispers and kisses your forehead after wiping your tears. “And I love you.”

He kissed Michael a final time before grabbing his bags and leaving the house. You buried your face under your blanket and cried softly. Michael pouts to himself and lays next to you, wrapping his arms right around you like a big comfort snake.

“Don’t cry, my love. Daddy’s here,” he whispers soothingly in your ear. “What do you wanna do, hm? We can do anything you want.”

“A–Anything?” You whimpered, peeking over the edge of your blanket to look at Michael with teary and swollen eyes.

When he nods and hums an affirmation, you immediately jump out from cocoon and run to the DVD drawer to pull out your favorite movies: Moana, The Greatest Showman, The Grinch, Coraline, and The Croods. Michael smiles as you slide the disc of Coraline into the DVD player with a childlike excitement that has his heart turning soft.

“Come on, little dove,” he smiles brightly and holds an arm out.

Halfway through the movie, you brought out your coloring book and laid on your stomach on the fluffy carpet. Your legs swayed in the air as you softly sung the Other Father’s song for Coraline. You reached a hand out for your strawberry lemonade juice box and took small sips. Michael sat on the couch with a lovesick grin and took a video of the little wiggle your hips are doing as your waved your feet around. He sent the video to Duncan with a few hearts.

Duncan ❤️: Our little baby 🥺 I miss you both. How is she doing??

Michael: Everything’s going perfect. Don’t worry. I have everything under control 💗

“Daddy,” you called out as you reached to grab a green crayon to color in your trees.

“Yes, my sweet little plum?” He dramatically says as he gets down on his knees to lay next to you, one heavy arm wrapping around your back.

You giggled at the pet name and covered your bright pink cheeks. Michael grins and kisses your warm skin, lightly nibbling and jokingly growling into your neck. You squealed and went to move away, but his arm tightened around your waist.

“And where do you think you’re going, hm?” He laughs and pressed his fingers in the spaces of your ribs, poking and massaging.

You yelled and grabbed his wrist to fight off his hand as his fingers frantically tickle you. Your face is red and your eyes are filled with laughing tears. Michael smiles to stops his hand, listening to your heavy breaths as you calm down from your fit.

“W–When is daddy coming back?” You softly asked as you calmed your breathing.

“Soon, little one,” Michael whispers. “In the mean time, show daddy what you drew.”

When night time came around, your eyes were beginning to get a little heavy. Michael brought you to your little room to keep you there until you fell asleep. You fought back a yawn and whimpered softly into your princess blanket. He grins and hands you the sparkly sippy cup filled with warm milk.

“Thank you, daddy,” you whispered softly and gently swallowed the warm beverage.

Your head was leveraged against two fluffy pillows. Michael sat beside you with an arm resting over your head, fingers twirling your hair mindlessly. You let out another tired whimper and snuggled deeper into his side, one hand wrapped around your bottle as the other grips his cotton shirt. Michael laughs softly and grabs his phone to capture the moment. Your eyes are trained on the colorful characters on the television screen when he takes a photo. He immediately sends it to Duncan.

Michael: She’s so sleepy and stubborn.

Duncan ❤️: Of course she is. How was she today? Any problems?? Do I have to come back home?

Michael: There’s no need, Duncan. She had a fun day with me. Everything’s fine, I promise you 💗

The blonde noticed how your grip on his shirt got more loose, as well as your bottle nearly slipping from your lips. When he leaned over to check, your eyes were fully shut and your lips were parted to let out quiet snores. Michael coos silently and pulls your bottle out of your hand, setting it to the side before wrapping his arms around you. You rolled over and buried your face in his chest, breathing in his musky scent of something sweet and spicy.

“You’re okay,” Michael whispers.
