Then Jim usually ended up being the one to get Spock out of it, too. The Apple, Operation Annihilate, A Private Little War, The Infinite Vulcan, TMP . . . How many times did we see Kirk have to carry Spock body and limb and slightly on fire back to the ship after he got into it?

The amount of shit Jim has to do for Spock in Star Trek III alone.

Spock is like the Enterprise housecat who stubbornly insists on being an outdoor cat and keeps escaping, later having to be carried back indoors. He keeps causing mischief but everybody loves his ass anyway.

Kirk and Spock were chaotic messes who loved their frontier first contact work in TOS and onward -- they deserved each other.😂👌

Here is concrete evidence that James T. Kirk and his first officer S'chn T'gai Spock are soulmates and lovers. If you disagree, fight with the wall.

1. Vulcans kiss with their hands. According to this, Kirk and Spock have kissed many times according to canon. I have included sources to back this up.

2. The creator of Star Trek himself said that he created Kirk and Spock’s relationship to be a “love” relationship and based it off of two gay lovers. I have included the source for this too.

3. Also, just take a look at all the longing looks Kirk and Spock always give each other. Look at how Spock, a Vulcan who has been learning to control his emotions since birth, smiles when he sees that Jim is alive. Also see how Spock touches Jim often even though touch is seen as intimate for Vulcans and so it is rarely used. Read between the lines!

4. Spock literally tells Kirk “I am yours” in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan. Don’t forget how Spock tells Jim that he makes him believe in luck, and Jim replies and says that Spock makes him believe in miracles.

5. Also, there’s a scene where Kirk thinks he’s getting a massage from Spock (because he can’t see where Spock really is). It’s actually a female crew member massaging him. He’s enjoying the massage and says “dig it in there, Mr. Spock,” until he sees Spock walk beside him with his peripheral vision. He immediately gets flustered and tells the female crew member that she can stop massaging him. Do I even have to explain this one? This is so gay.

6. Also, in an episode of Star Trek Lower Decks, a picture is shown of an engraving made that says “Kirk+Spock”.

7. As a final nail in the coffin, don’t forget the scene in the one Star Trek movie where Jim leans in to kiss Spock and Spock says “please captain, not in front of the Klingons.”

If you are still in denial that Captain Kirk and Spock are lovers, then that’s a you problem.

Third and final binding for Annamon (ABT Fanbinding) for the 2022 @renegadepublishing binding exchange ! This is another Kirk/Spock fic, this time they’re stranded together on a planet as well in time.

A 600 page chonker, this is a rounded A5 HB bound in metallic charcoal bookclouth with the title done in silver foil and hot foil quill. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a sharp and crisply foiled title on there so I decided to lean into the aesthetic and deliberately aim for a tarnished silver look to go with the theme of the fic. The endpapers are pepin press Art Deco, chosen to match the book cloth and because the motif makes me think of search lights. Headbands match the endpapers. I used the same typesetting as for the previous binding but with small adjustments, mainly I used only one Star Trek typeface for titles & running headers/footers. I’m really happy with how this came out!

Bro why do Vulcans always speak in that Shakespearean-ass English?

Spock being ridiculously calm whilst Scotty freaks the fuck out is so accurate.

Dude I love these two so much. I aspire to their friendship. They are besties. They perform music together. They challenge each other. They are badass together. They laugh together. Uhura saying 'Logical, Captain' is just so AHHHHHHH I LOVE IT

I love the meta reference so much. Also Kirk not getting it, similar to Spock often not getting references 🤌🏽

This is THE BEST for multiple reasons. First, that she references Kirk and Spock as 'two officers', they are just that much of a duo, famed across the galaxy for messing around together. Second, that she calls them 'devious'. Yes, they are my devious brothers.

This is so Spirk and so accurate.

Today on popping the corn and feeding the children, what do you folks think of this discussion? :)

I'm always curious to hear what other Trek fans, especially queer Trek fans, think about our place in Trek history and how we fare as the queer participants within our fandom. What have your experiences been like?

Overwhelmingly I've found a great reception and a welcoming attitude, but I admit that has increased considerably since the 90s. However, there are still some Trek fans who seem to be vehemently in denial about queer history in Star Trek, or the fact that anyone who has worked on Trek has pro-LGBT attitudes. This always surprises me considering some of the blatant queer content we have already seen in Star Trek such as the Jadzia Dax and Lenara Kahn kiss.

Anyway, I enjoyed the discussion that followed and seeing the overwhelming outpouring of support coming from Star Trek fans in response to this thread.

Here was my two cents contribution:

"No, what they said was factual.

Have you forgotten Nichelle Nichols was indeed an African American woman in the core seven bridge crew back in 1966?

Or the fact that Gene Roddenberry went out of his way to write The Motion Picture Novel, creating the term "T'hy'la: friend, brother, lover" so that fans could choose which interpretations of Kirk and Spock they saw fit? He also embraced K/S fans and hired a number of them to write the earliest Star Trek novels, including the very first official one (The New Voyages Vol. 1 & 2) which included slash fiction as well as Gene's approval/forward in the books.

In case anyone has forgotten, here's a little bit of background on Gene Roddenberry and his perspectives on queerness in Star Trek.

He admitted that in his early life he was very affected by how society and culture treated the LGBT community, and that he too found himself subjugating and judging others for that lifestyle because it was what people did at that time. As he got older and had more life experience, he began working with a number of queer artists in Hollywood -- and through TOS, a number of queer individuals began asking questions about Kirk and Spock.

Instead of vehemently shutting down this perspective, Roddenberry was intrigued, and saw potential to tap into a large audience (LGBT) that most others didn't want to go near or acknowledge publicity-wise. He saw it as an opportunity to expand the fanbase while also pushing yet another envelope.

But with the heat already on the show for what they'd already pushed, he found he was often stuck between what he'd like to do and what production would let him get away with. There are a number of Kirk and Spock scenes in scripts that got cut out for leaning a little too obviously romantic. Tiny trickles of that content still made it in were infamous moments like the backrub scene in Shore Leave. Even the 2009 movie had a K/S moment while Spock Prime and Kelvin Spock talked that was written and filmed that was cut out of the final product.

Queer subtext and coding has always been relentlessly weeded away at with an excuse ready to go for why they always try to cut us out, but we all know it's because they are scared of the homophobic backlash and ratings hits. Look how violently homophobes went after the gay romance episode of The Last of Us **just this year**. This has always been our reality, so for someone like Roddenberry to make efforts in the 70s? That was massive.

But Gene as well as the queer/slash Trek community managed to accomplish some things in the 70s which I'm surprised more folks don't talk about or give much credit.

In the same TMP novel which features "T'hy'la" and the famous footnote, Gene cleverly wrote Kirk with a bisexual/pansexual lens: Kirk describes himself as *preferring* women but being open to "physical love in **any** of its many Earthly, alien, and mixed forms." (Direct quote from Genes book). Basically, Captain Kirk was DTF with whoever if there was a connection, which was a very progressive take for a character in a novel written in 1979, but made sense for the future which would have a lot less hang ups about sex and love compared to our current rather puritan/conservative society.

I also prefer women, but I married a man. Shout out to Gene Roddenberry for giving us a seat at the table back in the 70's when folks *still* try to insist there is no place for K/S or queer concepts in Trek, because he made efforts -- however small -- to employ queer people and show queer perspectives. According to David Gerrold, LGBT+ representation was a big thing that Gene personally pushed for in TNG and wanted various depictions of love/couples in the Risa scenes, to name one example.

In the 70s, fanzines led to meetings and swapped fanmade magazines, which got so big that they needed hotel centers, then convention centers, then one day the TOS cast came to one and what we know as modern fan conventions were born -- inspiring even George Lucas who attended Trek conventions in the 70s and saw how popular Trek was in syndication; it was a great climate to launch his Space Opera. Star Wars then became so huge that we got TMP.

But none of that would have happened without the level of organization, passion, and creativity that those fans poured into Star Trek and their characters after it got cancelled and went into syndication.

Without queer folks we wouldn't have George Takei, Theodore Sturgeon who gave us Tribbles, Bill Theiss and his amazing TOS costumes, Mike Minor's art direction, Merritt Butrick, David Gerrold (writer for TOS, TAS, TNG) to name a few of many queer contributors to Trek that Roddenberry respected and tried to go to bat for wherever he could in a climate that was absolutely impossible to gain an inch in.

At a time during the 70s and 80s when so many people resented and feared the queer community and wanted us to disappear, especially in the 80s during the AIDS epidemic which many homophobes claimed was "God's punishment to the gay community" or "Gods's answer" to our "hedonism", thinking we'd gotten our just desserts and should just disappear . . .

During that time, Gene Roddenberry gave us queer folks a place to say: "You know what? Sure. Write your stories. TV says you guys shouldn't exist, they pull books with queer people off the shelves and burn them. Laws exist specifically to forbid you guys from loving each other, and call you mentally ill. You can't even hold hands in public. But I'm going to validate you guys and invite you to write novels or work for me, try to see what we can get by production, and allow you to see yourselves in my characters if you want to. There's a place for you in our fandom."

He gave us bi/pan Kirk, he gave us K/S is open to interpretation. In Phase 2 Kirk's surviving nephew Peter, son of his brother Sam from Operation: Annihilate!, was going to be written as gay and living on the Enterprise with his partner -- that also got chopped and reworked into a script that wouldn't get used until decades later. That was huge at a time that being queer was officially listed as a mental illness, and villainized due to the AIDS crisis.

So before you try to dismiss or tell K/S + queer Trek fans whether or not they deserve a seat at the table, remember that Gene Roddenberry was among the **first** to pull that seat out for us in a climate that was ruthlessly against LGBT+ folks." -- 1Shirt2ShirtRedShirtDeadShirt

Dear K/S friends,

Greetings! How is it May already? We hope you got well through the various April holidays. It's high time for our second progress report! Some of the following might be “old news” for you, but we think it is important to repeat details about registration & Discord. 1. Registration: You can sign up for our virtual KiScon 2022 directly on Conline. Please note that we handle all registrations through this framework this year. Registration is a 2-step process: 1) click “Join” to enter the KiScon area on Conline, then 2) click “Registration” to sign up for our 2022 convention. For a detailed explanation with screenshots, you can reach out to us! We recommend that you use a fannish name for your Conline profile, ideally your badge name (if you usually put both your real name and your fannish name on convention badges, only use the fannish part). 2. KiScon Discord (“KiScord”): You can join our KiScon Discord server by following this invite link. To make things a bit easier for the con staff, we’d appreciate if you could add your badge name also to your Discord profile name so that we know who is who. :-) For the convention weekend, there will be special channels for activities and chat, exclusive to con attendees. We will also create "Starfleet Academy" channels a week before the con, for training and practice, so that members can get used to the virtual setting and try out things. You can, of course, just take part in the convention by joining the panels in the Zoom sessions, but we strongly encourage you to also join the Discord server; it provides another layer of discussion and socialising during the con, and it will be the quickest way for you to get technical support if needed; some activities and games will require Discord. Premieres of all genres: these are vids that have not been published on the Internet or distributed on DVDs/tapes yet (we are lenient if the vid has been shown at a convention in the past, as long as it is not available anywhere). Vids created in or after 2020 (and unpublished) are eligible for our competition.

Classics of all genres: vids that showcase the history and rich variety of K/S and Star Trek vidding from the late 1970s to the 2010s

Fun & danceable song vids for our Disco Night & Sing-a-Long: exactly what it says on the tin – upbeat vids suitable for singing along and dancing the night away!

Submission guidelines:

Star Trek TOS, TAS, movies, reboot are all welcome! However, we strive to keep the balance between TOS and reboot – we reserve the right to shift around vids between classics and disco tribs, if necessary. The focus should be on Kirk/Spock; we will accept a limited number of gen vids, though (but no other pairings).

Length limit per vid: 5 minutes.

Submissions of up to three vids per vidder permitted. A team counts as a person of its own.

Attending membership is not required, but if you grace us with your online presence at the convention, be prepared to get a virtual room full of adoration.

For the competition: There are two categories, drama (angst, serious topics, death, H/C) and humour (anything angst-free, happy and upbeat). Each vidder can send in one vid per category for the competition. (You can still submit more vids to the shows, though!) The attending members of KiScon will vote after the show and determine the winners, who will be featured on the KiScon blog and recced all over the ’net.

There is also going to be a download link with the vid shows after the con, as a goodie for attending and supporting members. Let us know if you’re fine with your vids being included in it.

Please submit your vid as high-resolution and high-quality as possible, and use reasonably common and reliable formats (e.g. .mp4, .mov, .avi – please spare us the pain of .flv or .wmv files). Please register your vids as soon as possible by letting us know what you plan to send in (vidder name, title, song, genre, universe, length), either via the form on the KiScon website or send a message to T'Lara! 4. KiScon Goodie Bag: Our traditional con bag will be entirely digital this year! Sadly, this means no chocolates (insert stoically sad Vulcans here)! But while you will, of course, get a .pdf file of the con zine, a .pdf file of the program booklet, and a download link for the vids, we will also include various other digital treats for you. Usually there are also goodies donated by con attendees or supporting members in the bags, e.g. stickers, sweets, flyers, bracelets etc., and we would be happy if members continued this tradition also in the virtual space. Anything that can be downloaded and shared digitally is game! Want to make a podfic or filk or mixtape for the con bag? Have some cool Trek crochet or sewing patterns that you would like to share? An awesome desktop wallpaper or digital stickers/badges that members can then use on their social media? Maybe a cool recipe for K/S cookies or a lovely manip? The only restriction is that goodies need to be fannish in a transformative way, that means e.g. no video files of Trek eps, no audiobooks of pro novels, and no unaltered screenshots or officially released images. When in doubt, just ask us. You can also send in digital flyers for your fannish projects, but these can also be included in the program booklet — which brings us to the next point… 5. KiScon Program Booklet:

The program booklet or “con book” not only provides all members with the schedule and a detailed overview of all the activities during KiScon, but will also include a section on dealers and year-round fannish spaces, much like a directory. If you would like us to include links to your zine project, fannish event, fic fest, Trek podcast etc., please get in touch with us. This booklet will be compiled fairly close to the convention to reflect updates and changes in the schedule, but we’d appreciate if you sent in your submissions until October 1st, 2022. Members who have a dealer ticket will get a more detailed listing. Please let us know how you would like to be presented in the booklet (for example: a list of all your available zines, announcements of new issues and calls for zine submissions). 6. The second of three bindings for Annamon (ABT Fanbinding) for the 2022 @renegadepublishing binding exchange! This is Kirk/Spock arranged marriage fic, where they’re sent to a tropical planet for their honeymoon and have to get to know each other while solving a mystery…

Squareback A5 HB bound in yellow dubletta bookcloth with Mediterranean lemon endpapers and a title painted on the spine in green metallic fabric paint. I wanted to lean into the soft summery honeymoon vibe with this and I’m really happy with how it came out! The typesetting is crisper in comparison, I used a vey modem looking typeface for the body and two different Star Trek fonts for the chapter titles and the running headers/footers, for a sleek Star Trek-esque look.
