Kass started playing on his accordion. Everyone seemed to recognise the song almost straight away except for 8 of the goddesses heroes, most assuming it was written after their time. Turns out, they were right.
-
If you want to know what song they are singing, it’s called ‘fallen’ from a fan-made breath of the wild musical called ‘songs from the wild’. I highly recommend all Loz fans to check it out!
“Welcome to Rito Village!” Wild declared proudly, arms spread wide. He gave the others a minute to take it all in, most gazes drawn to the giant bird perched at the top of the village, before bounding up the steps.
The others followed him up the winding platforms around the village, and he quickly payed for beds at the inn for tonight, (they would have to double up to fit) then the group followed him to a platform which stretched out into the open sky.
A rito with blue feathers sat on the edge surrounding by a group of younger rito girls.
“Kass!” Wild cheered.
The rito turned at the noise, smiling as soon as they recognised Wild.
“Link! It’s good to see you!”
The younger rito all ran over, bouncing and demanding hugs.
“Link! Link!” They chirped.
Wild turned back to his brothers.
“This is Kass.” He introduced. “And these are his daughters, Kheel, Notts, Kotts, Cree, and Genli.”
“You and your friends should come here tonight, Link.” Kass said to Wild.
“Yeah!” His daughters cheered.
“We’ll be performing with Papa!” The rito with purple feathers, Kheel, said excitedly.
Wild laughed. “Ok then, we’ll have to see you then.”
-
That night, the rito and the chain gathered at Revali’s landing to watch Kass and his daughters perform.
“Link!” Cree, the oldest of the daughters hurried over to them, quickly followed my her sisters. “We want you to choose the song!”
Wild raised his eyebrows. “Me?” He replied, laughing.
When the rito girls all nodded determinedly, he paused to think. His gaze travelled over his brothers, before he smiled and whispered something to Cree.
They ran back over to their father, telling him Wild’s song choice.
Kass started playing on his accordion. Everyone seemed to recognise the song almost straight away except for 8 of the goddesses heroes, most assuming it was written after their time. Turns out, they were right.
Wild, the little shit, grinned at them with a knowing look.
“So a long time ago, when our people rode high, and we lived with the goddess way up in the sky-“ Cree sang.
“Well, even back then,” Kheel joined in. “When an evil arose, every instance was thwarted by Hylia’s heroes.”
“And there was a sword,” Notts chirped. “Which shone like the sun, and one slumbered for seven long years but, when done-“
Kotts began to sing the next part. “The hero would use it to vanquish each foe! Or, at least that’s how I heard those stories all gooo.”
Wind grabbed Wilds arm. “They wrote songs about us?!” He exclaimed, eyes shining.
“Just wait for your part.” Wild laughed.
Wind gasped. “I have a part?!”
Wild nodded, smiling, then put a finger to his lips.
The sisters all sang as one. “Hylia, answer our call.”
Then it was Kass’ turn. “As long as our kingdom has prospered and thrived.”
“Hup!”
“There’s always been times when we’ve scarcely survived,”
“Hup!”
“But the goddess, she sends us a gift from on high: A hero, a princess-“
The family all sang: “A power diviiiine.”
“The stories all tell of a hero, that comes to the call of the wild. We wish someone knew if those stories are true, but the fun is in waiting around.”
The chain were all smiling and elbowing each other.
“So we sing of their triumphs and all that’s beside them, as we hear our destinies calling, and we… we remember the fallen.”
“Does anyone else have a story to tell?” Kass asked.
“Oh, I’ve got one!” Genli chirped, before starting to sing. “There once was a hero who fought with the dark.”
“And returned light to Hy-rule.” Her sisters sang.
“Ooh!” Notts exclaimed. “And he sailed the oceans with dolphins and sharks!”
“And the seas drained and life moved on..” The rito chorused.
Kree sang next. “He washed up on an island, then he shrunk down in size.”
“So we sing of these heroes, courageous and wise, and we pray that one will come to ensure our own evil’s demise.”
5 little rito then ran to Wild, asking him to sing with them. He shook his head, but own can only resist the young girls’ begging and Wind and Legends calls of ‘cuckoo!’ for so long.
He looked nervous in front of the crowd, but he quickly grew in confidence.
“The stories all tell of a hero, that comes to the call of the wild.” He sang. “We wish someone knew if those stories are true, but the fun is in waiting around.”
Wild grinned as he began to dance with Kass’ daughters, all of him joining his voice with their own.
“So we sing of their fables, and through every tale, we can feel all our worries are stalling.”
Wild looked over at his brothers, who were all cheering him on.
“As we… we remember the fallen.”

More Rito Headcanons!
Something of an expansion of my "Rito Biology 101" post, but I'm not going to bother with the in-universe POV and talking about a couple different things here so...
Here's the original. Now that TotK is out, we got some new info so I'm going to go over things. (Namely a new Tribe for Penn and some thoughts on the aged up kiddos.) There my be some minor spoilers in the images, so I'm going to put them below the read more line.
Minor edit: 7/30/23, realized that one of the new NPC's mentioned something I forgot to talk about!
New Rito Guy! Penn is a reporter who you team up with for a few sidequests. Clearly he's some kind of pelican, so a quick search on Wikipedia and... Pelca Tribe (from Pelecanus the genus that contains all living pelicans)
So a couple things here. One: the triangles on his little sash reminds me of Kass' scarf. (What did you do to Kass Nintendo?!) Two: his outfit appears to be made of some kind of blue leather. I'm assuming that all Rito wear leather armor basically (except Saki and the little ones). Interestingly, I had drawn an axe that had talon grip handles in the axe head that are sometimes made out of leather sourced from blue monster hides. Doubt that's the case here since he's not a warrior but still...
His catchphrase... You can see they did the little hook on his beak! Is that yellow on his chest part of his clothes? Hm...
Including this because, A: this is quite possibly my favorite quote from him and B: you can see he has webbed feets! (Still say they should have given the Rito four toes but whatever...)
Look at his tiny pen and notebook! (The dangles on his hood are shaped like pens!)
Okay, that's enough Penn for now... In other news, new color morphs just dropped ya'll!
So the first guy looks like he might be a shade or two lighter than Huck, but the second guy is a new color altogether. We gots purple Orni Tribe Ritos now! Really don't have much to say about these two, but more variety is nice.
EDIT: Actually I do have something to say about Ornest. He mentions that all Rito have the ability to manipulate the wind, something I was theorizing to be the case. So, headcanon confirmed!
Moving on to the kiddos!
Kotts! Again her headband makes me think of her father's scarf and I miss him so much!
Here's BotW Kotts for comparison. As you can see, the white on her face is starting to fade, and she's lost her "bangs", and her head is starting to be more bird shaped. Rough estimation is that TotK is around 5 years after BotW and I'm assuming that she's 5 during BotW so that would make her 10 in TotK. (I'm going with Rito living around 80 years on average BTW).
She's almost as tall as Link! Also that dialog speaks to me on like, a molecular level. (She gets up at 10AM BTW) Also note her Saki-like clothing.
BotW Molli
TotK Molli
I, uh, don't think she grew at all...
She wants to make cool arrows so her dad will use them with his bows... (Why's there no emoji/emoticon button?! I need a big eyed sad face here!)
Speaking of her dad... Here enjoy this totally unrelated to anything I'm talking about shot of Harth actually standing! He gets to do stuff in this game guys! (Can you believe I almost forgot he existed when I went from BotW to Age of Calamity? How could I forget this unique bird?!)
Last but not least, Bird Son himself...
Tulin!!!! Look at this adorable little guy! LOOK AT HIM!!!!
I like to think he admires the hell out of Link and so he's mimicking Link's pose as much as he can. Speaking of which... Get that guy a cowboy outfit and a giant belt buckle!
Look at him some more!
So I don't know if that's eyeliner or just natural markings but he's doing his mom's thing and I can't even you guys!
I am SO normal about these birds...
*regains composure*
Okay, so what have we learned from this? Rito start off with blue sclera (the whites of the eye) when they're little. Around 10 or so the sclera becomes white and the irises are blue. Given that neither Kass nor Amali have blue eyes, I'm going to assume at some point their daughters will develop yellow eyes like them. Tulin... Let's just say his eyes stay blue.
Fluffy white baby feathers on the face slowly fade over the years until they their faces are solid colors (Orni Tribe at least). Tulin's little bun, is this like his mom's "hair" or more like his dad's floof? His he tying it back? You can make out something around the base of it in that second image of him so I think so... What if he ends up with a braid like the Ancient Wind Sage? (Why couldn't you just name them Nintendo? You could have just used the Divine Beasts' names and it would have been fine!)
None of the kids have proper tail feathers yet, so I hesitate to call them juveniles... Give them a few more years and they'll probably start growing them.
I like Penn, and pelican/waterfowl Rito fit in with ideas I was having for my fanfic so... Just gotta find a way to fit him in...
I made it so that different Rito settlements have different symbols. Normally these would be found on the cloth around their waist. However, Penn has this unique symbol on his chestpiece... Granted there's some similar symbols around the village but...

Cree, the empath & shopkeeper .||
Kotts, the fisher & innkeeper.||
Almost done drawing the rito sisters! Only one more!
[[ !!! Spoilers Ahead !!!]]
In BoTW, Cree is usually crying due to what's happening around- showing a lot of concern for her people but also wishing her father would come back home. Overall, not much is known except for being someone caring and having a love for goat butter- as during a quest she managed to buy all the butter from Misa who owns the supermarket known as The Slippery Falcon.
During ToTK events, Cree has matured a lot- taking the role of managing the super market while the adults are out scavenging. Even after the Blizzard, she stays to support Misa's business.
Meanwhile Kotts, while scared- showed signs of an creative imagination when it comes facing the beast that is scaring the village. Afterwards, she is found looking for hearty salmons to cook with her sisters- in order to make Genli sing with them in the rehearsal.
Kotts later reveals to Link, that she learned fishing- thanks to her father. Kass had taught her to "dive-bomb" the fish. Although she is careful about the technique, as she doesn't know how to swim.
In ToTK, her role is to help Cecili with the inn known as Swallow's Roost. Kott takes a lot of pride in her job but also seems to doze off every now and then...

det är för få kotte appreciation posts på tumblr
allt ska man behöva göra själv
liksom KOLLA PÅ HONOM
translation: there's too few kotte appreciation posts on tumblr
have to do everything myself
like LOOK AT HIM
WHATS THIS SHOW?? for non swedish people, sweden has a "julkalender" (christmas calendar) on tv every year with one episode a day from december 1st until christmas, its a kids/family show and its one of my favourite traditions. its a different story every year and this year its about tiny trolls who live in the woods. its free to watch from any country but its only in swedish rn :/
WHOS KOTTE??? kotte is a ray of sunshine, he's the best older brother there is, he's the friend that always brings a backpack, he can build literally anything, he's the clumsiest peson alive, he invented simping for a powerful pretty woman, he has zero understanding of social cues or norms, he's terrible at lying, he always says what he means, he's the only one with some common sense when it comes to danger but he will do anything to help his little brother, he's literally 🥺, his hat is made out of a pine cone which is also what his name means (pine cone, not hat), he's increadibly autistic, and the first time he tried sugar he ate an entire sugar cube, had what must have been the craziest sugar rush in history, took a nap, and is now obsessed with eating sugar again
this has been a kotte appreciation post
