One of Nandor’s 37 wives that he brings back from the dead. He is very fascinated with Guillermo, and insists that he tell him stories about where he comes from and his upbringing. This makes Nandor uncomfortable, so he sends him back to the dead.
i’m still mourning that there was a scene written in the 4x2 script where one of Nandor’s guywives tries to flirt with Guillermo, and Nandor was weird about it, but it got cut out

Heyyy you seem like you really know your batjokes. You got any fics to recommend? Oneshots, longfics, incomplete or not, I'm just looking to feed this craving. I've already read the big ones, REMS, Made for the Journey, Half Way Across, Love and Abuse, etc. I need MOAR
DAMN this is a good question... and one I am only semi-qualified to answer. I've trawled through a fair bit of the Batjokes AO3, but that still amounts to, uh, not even half of it. Any further reccs are welcome! For now though, some favourites, old and new, are under the cut~
Please check each individual fic for rating & warnings.
I'm currently obsessed with The #48 Verse series, by DesdemonaKaylose! Start here...
BRED TO SUFFER (desdemonakaylose)
AU from Batman comics #48: amnesiac Bruce Wayne is saved from having to choose between his newfound peace and the legacy of Batman. And as long as there is no Batman, there can't be a Joker.
John Doe, of the uncannily wide smile and the acid green eyes, deals with a creeping sense of dread that something is poised to go very, very wrong.
After the events of Endgame, amnesiacs Bruce Wayne and John Doe find themselves drawn together and repelled like magnets. Love - and danger - ensues, as their pasts crawl slowly back through cracks in the mirror.
And I can't not mention the other fic I'm obsessed with: AS WE GO ALONG (battybrownboo) - EXPLICIT
Batman and the Joker are perched along the edges of a precarious and complicated affair when an old enemy returns to Gotham. The adversary's desires for revenge against Bruce Wayne have only strengthened with time. This forces the two enemies with benefits on a wild goose chase, and to confront their relationship head on, whether they’re ready or not.
Strong Deadly Duo vibes, but with all the hardcore fucking that DC keep forgetting to add in! Batman and Joker are forced to team up, while navigating a delightfully messy ongoing relationship. As ever, I'm on tenterhooks for the next chapter!
GLASS, CONTENT, PIECES (ashtosilver) - EXPLICIT
"Mr. Wayne, it's this government's decision that regardless of the progress, you will become this man's handler. How he gets to the point of accepting that, is up to you."
Bruce breaks the Joker. But not for himself. Contains rape.
WHAT A WONDERFUL ANIMOSITY (kyrilu)
Joker is preparing to celebrate his and Batman’s upcoming Nemesis Anniversary when he makes the devastating discovery that Batman is married to his roommate Bruce Wayne.
Legobatjokes cuteness!
JUST IN CASE OF SURPRISES (princegrantaire)
What do you get for the man who has everything anyway? A skinny murderous clown, apparently.
Clark gets Bruce a very unconventional birthday present.
After you've worked your way through those, please go read the entire archives of Dracze, Distortopia, Fractualized and Fricketyfrac, aka DDFF, aka the deities of batjokes fic. A couple of faves of theirs that I haven't yet reccommended publicly are:
GOODBYE UNTIL TOMORROW (dracze) - EXPLICIT
Dick and Barbara reminded me what’s important,” Bruce says, quietly. “And there's one more person I want to see.”
So sweet it gave me cavities <3
FRIEND, PLEASE (distortopia)
Joker will not let a disease, of all things, do him in. He was always meant to die at the hands of the Bat. He hadn’t tortured him enough before; he had been holding back. But now he would present Bruce with an impossible, obvious choice: kill Joker before he killed the world.
Joker gets cancer. It goes badly.
(AND I'M DROPPING A SHOUT FOR FALLS THE SHADOW TOO BECAUSE I WANT MORE OF IT PRETTY PLEASE, IT'S SO GOOD)
ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT (fractualized)
The Justice League are regrouping after an attack when an unexpected visitor arrives at Batman's hideout.
The Justice League meet John Doe! <3
GOOD FOR NOTHING (fricketyfrac) - EXPLICIT
Batman investigates why Bane made an appearance at Amusement Mile, and his interrogation of Joker takes a dark turn.
Batman finds the nasty aftermath of a confrontation between Joker and Bane. Warnings for rape and some very, very dubious consent.

some grindeldore imi recently read (recently means somewhere in the past month in 2023)
Phoenix Tears by PrincessElectra | 46k words, T | The summer of 1899 ends with less destruction and heartbreak, but love is not a victory march and the darkness is still a seductive temptress.
Socken by noctis_ibis | 1.405 words, G | Bathilda Bagshot realises that there is more going on between her great-nephew and the neighbours boy
the great work by Laeveteinn | 19k, M, gore warning, hannibal AU | After a bizarre string of artistic murders, the Aurors ask the local Transfiguration professor for advice.
I'd Wait For Life by Dreamer1701 | 7k, T, post SoD | For months after the events in Bhutan, no one heard anything from Gellert Grindelwald and his followers. Until the news that they left Nurmengard reach the world - and a certain Hogwarts Professor. Who of course can't resist to go there
how did you get here, my dear? by captnhowzer | 1,9k words, G | Voldemort comes for the Elder Wand. Gellert dies protecting Albus. Gellert doesn’t know Albus is already dead.
I Shall Love You Better After Death by CompassToTheEndlessSea | 941 words, G | Gellert and Albus are reunited in death, where they finally can be together. A happy ending in life was never in the cards for them, but after death and after shaking off their worldly burdens... anything is possible.
Reckless Paradise by NightWithoutStars | 23k words, T | "I am in a precarious position, as you might know. With a Dark Lord out and about and a corrupt ministry, the smallest mistake could cost me everything. As if that was not enough, I am in dire need of a divination professor." "How do you expect me to help you, Albus? I am but a prisoner in my own fortress." "What if you weren't?" Oh, how Gellert had missed that mischievous glint in those mesmerizing, blue eyes.
The Final Request by SparksAdrift | 3,9k words, G | Harry is charged with a quest to discover the truth, story and reason behind Gellert Grindelwald's final request of what becomes of his body.
Dumbledore's Meeting by AlbusGellertAlways | 2k words, G | Hermione meets with Dumbledore about dropping Divination and ends up learning more about the professor's personal life about a certain Seer than she was expecting.
A Lifetime of Insanity by kyrilu | 2,6k, T | Instead of imprisoning Gellert in Nurmengard after defeating him, Albus chooses to magically bind him and keep him at Hogwarts like a caged owl. It's really not the greatest idea.

find the word tag
@chelsfic thank you for tagging me!
The rules: post an excerpt from a fic or WIP containing the words chosen by the person who tagged you.
Words chosen by Chels: Heat, Blood, Vivid, Tangle, Breathe
Heat: He could feel the heat of the flames as he passed through the doorway, but he didn’t get even remotely scorched. As soon as he walked in, though, he could see why.
The fire was concentrated on the edges of the building, leaving the center open as a stage for battle. War Machine stood in the center, his mask and gauntlets reflecting the flickering flames that provided the only light in the room. His cape swung behind him like a blind spot in Guillermo’s eye, covering Nandor’s body in darkness and revealing it in turns. -- the age of iron, steam, and speed, chapter 2
Blood: “It’s hard to get donations, too. I’m not really in charge of fundraising, but they’re not really ‘charismatic megafauna’.” He makes little air quotes around the term without looking back at the camera. “They’re more like coyotes than tigers? Like we have some people who are really passionate, but a lot of people still think of them as pests. Just because they drink blood.” -- such strenuous living, i just don’t understand
Vivid: “Please please please, Master,” he babbled in panic. He closed his eyes so he wouldn’t have to see that body, grotesquely pulsing with the sinuous forms that had taken up residence inside. Even with his eyes shut tight, he could feel the hand reaching towards him. As vividly as a vision, he saw the world reduced to black nothingness, except for a single hand, pale and distorted, extending towards his face. He felt as if he was teetering on the edge of the void, as if the entire universe would collapse into nothing when it reached him, as if his existence would be extinguished like a blown-out candle. -- Basidiocarp, Mycelium
Tangle: “Everything breaks eventually, master. It’s probably as old as I am. We could watch the match on my tablet,” Guillermo said consolingly. In truth, he would be grateful not to have to squint and strain his ears to figure out what was going on. An ache was already starting to build behind his eyes from staring at the tangled wires in the dim candlelight. -- red in tooth and claw
Breathe: Nandor the Relentless’s hair hung loose around her face, no longer the texture of marble but black as the night sky. Her dark eyes burned from within like coals on a fire and her mouth was curled into a cruel smile. The statue hadn’t even come close to doing justice to her holy and terrible glory. Looking upon her was like gazing upon the sun reflected in a river of blood. Guillermo couldn’t breathe. -- stand up in my holy terrain
My words: accidentally, shuffle, nervous, detached
Tagging: @blaka-smoko, @uv-duv, @kyrilu, @synesindri, @theshriekingsisterhood

So uh, speaking of leaks... (part 1)
On a Discord server, @kyrilu pointed out two more Vimeo links of people reading for Shadows scenes in s4. I'm posting them with permission. Unlike the other leak provided, these are still up and able to be viewed by whoever. (Please don't bother the people who auditioned, or anyone in the Shadows cast/crew, or do anything that could lead to these getting a takedown like the other leak apparently did.)
I'll be transcribing the first under the cut and giving my thoughts, just to keep things separate and clear, but I'll be doing this for the second one as soon as this one is out and uh. The second one feels like Nandermo gold to me. Like it doesn't have the kind of obvious sitcom 'wham' of the earlier leak but it gives me all the feelings.
I'm going to reference 'Reader' for person reading the other lines and 'Actor' for the person screen testing since it's not always clear who the reader is reading for when there are more than two people in the scene. I'll speculate/give a name of what character it seems to be when I can.
Transcript of the first link:
READER (SEAN): Woah! You guys look freaking awesome. I feel underdressed.
ACTOR (HEADMASTER WARREN): Oh nonsense, Sean, you always look like a class act. Hello! (indicates self) Jim Warren.
READER (SEAN): Speaking of class act...
ACTOR: Oh, hello! This must be Colin, hello young man! It's a pleasure.
READER (COLIN): It is my great pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir. And guess what?
ACTOR: What's that?
READER (COLIN): I'm a remarkably smart lad who can sing and dance, I never watch YouTube, I don't hammer holes in walls with a hammer, so I'd say there's nothing weird about me.
ACTOR: Well, that's just great! And I look forward to getting to know you better, but right now, how 'bout you give me a moment to talk to your parents and get to know them a little bit?
READER (COLIN): Okay, fine, sir! Also, I don't sleep in a wooden box and I never have.
ACTOR: (smiles and nods nervously, pause) ...So! Forgive me for not being fully up to speed here, but who exactly are the parents?
READER (?): When I snap my fingers, you will enter a trance where you will hear nothing and see nothing. When I snap once more, you will return to normal consciousness remembering nothing of this pause. (snaps, beat, snaps again - clearly they have some kind of dialogue here independent of the lines the actor needs to audition)
READER (Nadja): We are Cousin Colin's parents! Hello, I'm Nadja.
READER (?): Yes, and I'm Matthew.
ACTOR: Well, Nadja and Matthew, I'd like to ask you a few questions about yourselves and Colin.
READER (Nadja): We can do that because we are Colin's parents.
READER (?): Yes! We had relations for him to exist. We still have relations to this day, even if just for pleasure. And I am Matthew.
ACTOR: (beat) Okay, great! Nice to...meet you, Matthew. So is...everybody gonna stay for this next part? Usually it's only the paren- (another snap, beat, another snap - rehypnotized for some more dialogue not included in the video) -parents who do the interview.
READER (?): Yes, everyone will stay. We consider everyone here like members of the family.
ACTOR: Okay, then! One big happy family! We like that. Well, let's dive in then... So, how old is Colin?
READER (?): (unclear how many people are talking at once but I hope it's literally every single one of them) Uhm, four - nineteen - I mean - twelve, what are y- forty-two - sixteen - when - he's nine. Nine.
ACTOR: (long bewildered pause) ...Ah.
So uh, I love every single thing about this. I can't meta too hard about it because it's more straight-up plot but some stray observations:
- Aww, they're trying to get Colin into a good private school! Instead of just homeschooling him or something, too, maybe they want to socialize him? Makes sense with the whole 'can he become an interesting person and not an energy vampire' thing.
- I find "we are Cousin Colin's parents" hilarious and I can't explain why, it's just beautiful in its simplicity.
- Colin's clearly gonna do some rapid aging, but in stages. Laszlo taught him music because of course he did, also I love every part of the very specific denial he does.
- Sean is there! Is Sean there the whole time?? Is he there for the hypnosis?? Did Sean meet baby Colin and then kid Colin and did they have to hypnotize him multiple times, or is he aware of the supernatural stuff at this point and along for the ride? I really really want him to be in on things as the Stu of the group, just their human friend who everyone likes so he hangs out and smiles and nods at the proceedings.
- The most obvious question, who is 'Matthew'? The very specific 'yes we totally have sex' stuff makes me think it's not Laszlo (though the meta of the name specifically being 'Matthew' is funny). The speech patterns make me think it's Nandor. But none of them have ever gone by an alias in day to day stuff before, or worried a name like 'Nandor' sounds too European or unusual. I don't think this is a new character though, so my money is on Nandor more than Laszlo/Guillermo/someone else.
- "Yes, everyone will stay. We consider everyone here like members of the family." I hope Guillermo is there. I hope Sean is there. I hope that whatever bickering they inevitably had to decide that everyone needed to stay in the room, they absolutely mean it when they say that line.

Do you have any favorite Tomarry fics or recs?
hi anon! well i’ve only been in the fandom for like 6 months so all my recs will be really boring but...
the very first fic that got me into tomarry is The Emperor and The Star by @wynnefic. it’s a blessing. i’m also very soft for Rings Around
A Dangerous Game by @cybrid, No Glory by @obsidianpen and Words Fail by NeaMarika are my holy grail tomarry fics. they can do no wrong!
unfortunately (or fortunately, if you love receiving surprise updates) they’re all wips, so aside from those, my favourite completed fics are probably Memento Mori by @purplewitch156 and The Rigmarole Dance by @cannibalinc (i personally like to read this as a companion piece / to detox from As Portioned from a Whole because the narrative tone is so different but in an equally wonderful way HAHA)
i think perhaps the more underrated (<1k kudos) ones would be Fault Lines by @sofiabanefics (this is so clever and i feverishly hope they update), Valiance by @kyrilu , The Reformatory School for Future Angels by nightmeadow (adorable!) and Not a Good Man, But a Great One by @duplicitywrites (this is technically not ‘underrated’ but yknow i think it deserves more love)
and the one that i'm currently reading which has updated most recently is What He Grows To Be by @k-s-morgan!
is it a bad idea to also rec my own works? we may sink and settle on the waves and right down to a science because why not, right

willton anon here. thanks for the fic recs i’ve checked them out and am starving for more already :) it’s hard to not know where to start but you have great taste!!! any extra recs always appreciated
Hey friend!! So glad you liked my recommendations!
I do have some more for you, as a matter of fact. I’ve been reading quite a lot of fanfic recently haha.
1. “What You Are To Me” by xevinx ( @euthymea )
Summary: Besides their matching scars, Will Graham and Frederick Chilton have a lot more in common than they realise.
Rated: Teen and up
Wordcount: 25,935
Wow, what can I even say about this fic...? Honestly, this was one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever read. I continue to be blown away by their writing. The pace of this, the buildup... it’s stunning. Plus, you only know the secret the moment the characters do. Could not recommend this one enough!
2. “Bad Habits” by skarletfyre
Summary: It's not easy living with Frederick Chilton. Not that Will expected it to be, but he wasn't expecting it to be this hard either.
It's got to get easier at some point.
Right?
Rated: Explicit
Wordcount: 63,131 (unfinished)
So this is another one of those s2 AU fics where Will lets Chilton stay but it’s one of my favorites because of how much character development there is. Unfortunately, it’s unfinished, but what is there is more than enough to satisfy lots of chillywilly cravings haha.
3. “Magic, or Something Like Magic” by speccygeekgrrl
Summary: He’s got nowhere to go except to the one person who owes him the least loyalty of all, and that’s not even in his top five worst thoughts of the past hour.
Rated: Teen and up
Wordcount: 1,527
This is short but so, so sweet! I really enjoyed the visceral sort of description of Will and his house. I love feeling immersed in writing and I love it when authors put in those extra little details like smell and touch.
4. “ticket for one” by kyrilu
Summary: One last therapy session.
Rated: Teen and up
Wordcount: 633
Again, a short one, but also pretty good in terms of characterization! I loved reading between the lines of this fic to see the other conversations and interactions between the two characters that were implied.
+1
If you’re starved for willton feels, let me recommend the following songs:
“Bring Your Love To Me” by The Avett Brothers
“To Hell & Back” by Maren Morris
“Heavy” by Birdtalker
“the 1″ by Taylor Swift

15. Fic this year which you didn’t expect to love as much as you do: In the Bleak Midwinter by TheLoud >> Harry Potter, Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle Sr., time travel AU, slow burn, 1920s, it’s such a unique premise and I never even thought it might work until I tried it
16. Fic which convinced you to ship a pairing: master of puppets, i'm pulling your strings by wearealltalesintheend >> Stranger Things, Billy Hargrove/Steve Harrington, Robin Buckley & Billy Hargrove, canon divergence, fix-it, angst with a happy ending this ship was meh to me but this fic makes it work, probs bc of the Robin-centric friendship focus

20. Wildcard fic you haven’t mentioned but deserves a shout-out + why: the real banishment is the family we made along the way by scioscribe >> MCU, Hela & Loki, canon divergence, sibling bonding, unintentional redemption  >> This fic has ruined me for post-Ragnarok fics because now whenever I come across one with Hela in it I’m like “Is there Hela & Loki sibling bonding? No? Not interested :/” Also I had no idea unintentional redemption was a trope I needed until this fic so it was an awakening of sorts on both counts.
As you can see I’m a slut for canon divergence AUs
I’m tagging: @pseudonova @colourwhirled @miikkasakari @improbabledreams900 @valkyrisms @doevademe @kyrilu @thelightofthingshopedfor (thank you guys for writing such amazing fics!) and also @wombathos @veliseraptor @loxxxlay @pennie-dreadful and anyone else who has made it this far down the post and is reading these very words right now :D

2019 fic recs
it’s been a long time since i did a fic rec list so i put one together with some of my favorite fics from this year (and then forgot to post it for a month oops). i’ve been reading in a lot of fandoms so there’s a bunch of variety in this one. also because i read a ton of cap marvel fics earlier in the year, i’m going to do a separate list for those
[1 Coco, 5 Good Omens, 1 Lucifer, 5 Marvel, 1 She-Ra, 3 Steven Universe]
Coco
Work of All Saints by anistar_e (210k): Her mother sends her a letter, after. We cannot help you, Imelda, it says. You are the consequence of your actions."This is not my fault!" Imelda shouts.-Imelda Rivera (b. 1899 - d. 1969), a story that includes but is not limited to: the finest music school this side of the Santo Domingo, three traveling musicians and the mess they made of love, the twice-cursed assassination of Venustiano Carranza, all the patron saints, and ninety-six ways a man can try to cross a bridge. (A masterpiece of character, world-building, development, just everything you could possibly want from a fic and a novel, it is a grand epic that is personal in scope, truly spectacular)
Good Omens
A Stone’s Throw from Jerusalem by RC_McLachlan (Aziraphale/Crowley, 2k):  "Are you honestly going to make me listen to bebop in my final moments?” [Absolutely beautiful with just the right amount of aching heartbreak and pining, and this acute awareness that they live on different scales than humans.]
damn.nation, now available on itunes by anistar_e (10k): When lowly tempt-pusher Amphora (formerly of Stairwell 7B North, before she Fell,) gets the notice that end times are nigh, she gleefully quits her job and cancels her Netflix subscription and takes her place among the legions of hell. // This, it turns out, was a bad plan. [The character work is so strong, she paints such a clear vision of Amphora and it’s very easy to fall in love with her. This is the best example of outsider POV of OTP that I’ve seen.]
Salinity (And Other Measurements of Brackish Water) by drawlight (Aziraphale/Crowley, 3k): It's an odd thing, getting on after the End of the World. Crowley takes to sea-watching. [This fic reads like poetry, it’s absolutely beautiful with a very good central metaphor. Also Crowley cooking.]
stars, hide your fires by fishycorvid (Aziraphale/Crowley, 3k): He can feel the pull of the riptide, even in water like this, only a few centimeters deep. The constant, assured call of the ocean: you came from me, and, one day, you will come back. Crowley smiles to himself at that, the water rushing insistently against his fingertips. He hadn’t come from the sea, of course. But he doesn’t think he’d mind much if he had. / “Crowley.” / He goes still at the sound, eyes falling closed. [Beautiful missing scene, I love the emotions and the imagery and the descriptions of the Pacific Northwest and how this fic is just them.]
vintage demon art, vape pens, & other treasures by kyrilu (Aziraphale/Crowley, 1k):  Love, Anthony J. Crowley is aware, is a very foolish thing. He’s seen humans do stupid things based on love or lust, whether it’s tacky Disney movie themed weddings, internet catfishing, or matching couple shirts. [I love this, it’s formatted as several short vignettes about the pair and how Crowley very much doesn’t feel love - except he does, he loves an angel. It’s delightful and beautiful and poignant.]
Lucifer
And There Was Light by ariaadagio (Lucifer/Chloe, 143k): When Lucifer Morningstar is found half dead in the desert, Chloe Decker is determined to find out why. The problem is ... not even Lucifer knows the answer. As Chloe's world is flipped upside down by incontrovertible evidence of the divine, Lucifer grapples with feelings of violation and futility. God's meddling has started a chain reaction, but to what end? Deckerstar. Fits with canon through S2. [I love this beautiful masterpiece of a fic. Excellent characterization, spectacular plotting, and a very delicious slow-burn, this fic deals with Chloe finding out Lucifer’s divinity while Lucifer deals with fate and free will and having his wings again.]
Marvel (Misc)
Adjectives Assemble by SugarFey (26k): Natasha wants to find that rare edition of The Master and Margarita before her rival at the Russian language bookstore does. Kate is distracted by the cute barista next door. Carol and Jessica dance around each other. Maria just wants to keep her business afloat without being bothered by pesky police officers or high school art teachers, no matter how polite they may be. Another average day at Adjectives Assemble. [Multiple ships and POVs, lots of awesome ladies dealing with feelings and trying to save an indie bookstore, it’s just a delightful fic to read.]
in oakland by hupsoonheng (Sam/Erik, 11k): in the summer of 1998, the good reverend wilson is shot dead, and darlene wilson runs away from her grief all the way to oakland, california, taking her oldest with her. sam hates her, he hates oakland, and he definitely hates the pretty-eyed neighbor boy who's been volunteered to show him around. it's up to him to make the most of his new situation, but he might need someone to push him. [Not a pairing I ever expected to read, but it’s handled so well, the development of their friendship and then love over the course of a single summer in Oakland as teenagers, like cinematic magic, I couldn’t help but cheer for them.]
Morning Glory by capsicleonyourleft (Tony/Steve, Carol/Jess, 2k):  There are a great many things Tony loves about Steve Rogers. His propensity for getting up at the asscrack of dawn, however, is definitely not on that particular list. [Domestic fluff with cute moments, good characterization, and character dynamics that nail them.]
One of the Basic Skills of Civilization (Eddie/Symbiote, 1k):  Eddie attempts to civilize the Venom symbiote. [Eddie tries to teach Venom manners by way of Miss Manners. Things don’t go as planned. It’s hilarious and sweet and has a great joke about Amazon]
we were emergencies by gyzym (Clint/Natasha, 37k):  It's not about being unmade; it's about remaking, one aching step at a time. [This fic is a classic in the fandom and it’s truly stunning. The way it handles trauma and trust and love is phenomenal, you learn to live with it but it never goes away, and it’s truly the best Clintasha fic.]
She-Ra
plays well with others by Cosanova (Adora/Catra, 4k): Catra may have left the Horde, but that doesn't mean she's ready to join the Rebellion. [Did someone ask for awkward villain redemption? I love this fic and the way Catra navigates the people of Brightmoon and figuring out her feelings for Adora.]
Steven Universe
I Want to Understand by CoreyWW (gen with Steven/Connie and Amethyst/Peridot, 59k): After stopping the Cluster, Peridot must face her next challenge: adjusting to life on her new planet and learning about humans that populate it. Knowing just how out of depth Peridot is, Steven enlists Connie's help in getting Peridot used to humans and acclimated to Beach City. Considering Peridot has no social skills whatsoever, this goes about as well as you'd expect. Funny episodic "Peridot in Beach City" adventures about how Peridot changes over time. Diverges from canon after The Answer (Though by coincidence, the premise of story basically makes this "Log Date 7 15 2: The Series") [What makes this fic so good is the characterization and dialogue. It’s very accurate and the chapters themselves feel like they could be from the show. I especially love the development of Connie and Peridot’s friendship, in addition to Peridot’s own growth and self-reflection.]
Favor for Your Four-Chambered Heart by anistar_e (Jasper/Lapis, 77k): "I don't get it," she says flatly. / "Don't get what?" / "You said we needed to be in peak physical form. What for?" / "Oh!" Peridot perks up. "For harvesting." [Never Let Me Go AU.] [Jaspis isn’t a pairing I considered reading for until I came across this fic and it blew me away with how good it was. This fic hurts, the themes of freedom and self-determination in a world where your only purpose is supposed to be to die for others are beautifully handled, and I love the way all the relationships are written, dynamic and complex and messy. People make mistakes but they’re allowed to grow and become better, and it’s really just so good.]
Set Me Free by cym70 (Lapis/Peridot, 23k):  Being roommates gives Lapis and Peridot a lot of time to get to know each other and, despite their rocky history, they might just be able to make something entirely new. [A gorgeous, in-character fic about Lapis healing and falling in love with Peridot. The dialogue is so good, you could really hear their voices, and I love the careful development of their relationship. My favorite Lapidot fic.]

Arithmancy, by clipper782
Summary: A completely non-serious fill based on this prompt:
"So, there are some subjects that are mentioned as being taught at Hogwarts, that don't have professors mentioned as teaching them. I'd like a fic where Grindelwald escaped Nurmengard years ago and headed to Hogwarts, either to be near his former friend or to take revenge. He disguised himself as the Arithmancy teacher, because no one pays much attention to him, and has been teaching there ever since.
Dumbledore has no idea. However, during book 4, Grindelwald starts hearing rumors about Voldemort trying to come back, and doesn't want this to happen. He starts doing what he can to protect Harry, and, ends up showing up in the cemetery in time to stop Voldemort from returning. It's at this point, that Dumbledore begins to think that maybe his employee is a bit too powerful for just an arithmancy professor..." Chapters: 1 Statut: Completed

Tumblr media
Vulture held a What We Do in the Shadows panel with the writers as part of Vulture Festival, and I went because @phasmama nudged me.
Random things:
Season 6 will film in January, so the air date will be around the summer.
S6 will address the question of what does Guillermo want now, since S5 ended with him getting what he wanted and realizing he didn't want it after all.
S6 will feature a new kind of hypnotism, which will probably be in an episode co-written by Zach Dunn, or he came up with the idea (going by a teasing jab of Paul Simms').
A plot that was tossed around in the writers' room was about Nadja trying to fit in and joining a human book club and realizing that it was an excuse to drink wine and nobody actually read the book.
Jeremy Levick and Rajat Suresh originally scripted a lot of options for the hybrid creatures. One that was nixed was a curly-haired mouse that originated from Guillermo's pubic hair.
They talked about Nandermo. I've transcribed that specific part here.

Books I read in Jan/Feb 2018
I haven’t been watching much TV or doing a ton on Tumblr lately, but one thing I have been doing is reading, so I decided I may as well post a list of the books I’ve read every month! Why do I have a blog if not to share my surface-level opinions about random things, anyway?
Of course I immediately missed a month, but I’m just going to go ahead and start now with everything I read in both January and February, and go from there! Next month the list will be considerably shorter.
Under the cut: queer gentlemen, cool sci-fi, and some highly recommended YA.
In rough order of how much I’d recommend them:
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, Mackenzi Lee
One of those books you see, you know you’ll love, and you proceed to love. It’s really fun historical YA about a gentleman doing a tour of the continent with his sister and with his best friend who he’s in love with. Even setting aside the gay mutual pining, it’s full of really juicy character development and fun adventures. Read this book.
Planetfall, Emma Newman
Intriguing sci-fi about a group who have colonized an alien planet. It kept me reading trying to figure out what happened to land them there and what exactly was going on with the main character, who has her own secrets. I can’t say I liked everything in the book, but it was a really good read and I recommend it.
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, Claire North
@kyrilu turned me on to this time travel book about people who loop through their lives with all their memories from previous lives intact. It’s a bit scattered at first, but hang in there if you like epic foeyay ships about two universe-jumping rivals who are best friends and also destined for an epic dance of deception that will only end when one of them knows enough to kill the other. Which, you know, personally, I really do. (I wanted to write fic for this but of course I never had time… but if anyone else wants to jump on this dinghy with us I could revisit that idea.)
Across the Nightingale Floor, Lian Hearn
Someone with great taste recommended this book, which is set in a fantasy version of Japan and follows an orphan who becomes a ninja. The setting is intriguing and the writing is really lovely. I’d like to read the sequels at some point (especially if the mysteriously slashy monk guy from the very end makes an appearance…)
The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, Theodora Goss
A mashup of Victorian monster stories (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, etc.) with the improving twist that it’s actually about a group of women descended from said mad scientists. I wouldn’t say it knocked my socks off, but I’m always here for a book about a group of women doing cool stuff, and it was fun finding out how each of the classic stories would show up.
The Will to Battle, Ada Palmer
This is the third book in the absolutely nuts sci-fi series Terra Ignota. I always recommend the first two books - Too Like the Lightning is first - because they’re a totally insane mix of interesting ideas and crazy revelations, and are basically impossible to put down after a certain point. In the third book, there was less left to reveal, it seemed, so I found myself somewhat disenchanted with the weirdness. But I seriously can’t recommend the series enough.
The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas
I wanted to try this highly acclaimed YA about a girl who witnesses a police shooting. The characters and their world really came to life in a way you don’t always get in YA. Not my typical fare but I do recommend it.
Soundless, Richelle Mead
YA fantasy that was recommended to me, a language enthusiast, because it features a town of people who have been deaf for generations, and the main character magically regains her hearing and has to venture into the wider world. On that aspect, I was interested - the description of her first experiences hearing was cool - but in other parts it felt a bit more like bland YA fantasy. Please, tell me more about how your town is divided into exactly two rigid and illogical social classes...
Grace and the Fever, Zan Romanoff
YA about a boyband fangirl, which I approached with the skeptical curiosity I have for books about fandom. I actually really did identify with some aspects, like the surprisingly lonely feeling of having a big aspect of your life you can’t tell your real life friends. The plot of her meeting her idols and, eventually, her fandom life coming out turned out less cringey than I’d feared, although overall I’d still give the book a “meh”.
All The Birds in the Sky, Charlie Jane Anders
There’s a lot of intriguing stuff in this book that mixes fantasy and tech, but for some reason I didn’t care about the characters and it was a total whiff for me. Don’t necessarily trust me on this one, though.
Artemis, Andy Weir
First of all, I love The Martian and I highly recommend it to everyone. Artemis, not so much. There are still some interesting science puzzles, but there’s this really grody feeling over the whole thing as the author tries and fails to write a female character without being creepy. So yeah, trust me on this one. Read The Martian instead.

seeing peter pan goes wrong was so much fun, and it makes up for all my disappointment that I couldn't see the jet lag premiere in-person yesterday due to "I cannot easily Metro to/from that this late at night" issues. (the cruel irony of enjoying train content youtubers who you cannot functionally take the train to because local transit infrastructure is broken.)
I was worried that I wouldn't be as excited since I've seen the PPGW BBC recording, but no, there were different jokes/scenes not in the BBC version (the undersea scene, and Dennis relaying lines from the squabbling couple, for example) - I love how they adapted it for an American audience (Bradley Whitford as the narrator holding up a SAG-AFTRA sign! Chris taking potshots at the audience - "this is why you don't get Shakespeare") - and it's just so, so charming and wonderful to see them perform from a stage.
tbh, i was kinda disappointed that Dave Hearn wasn't there, because og Max had my heart ever since I watched PPGW for the first time (not being able to hear his triumphant "snap snap!" in person is a tragedy), but the other guy playing him did fine, and it really was nice that it was nearly all the original British cast. it was just about everything I wanted to see from mischief theatre as a fan who's only been able to see their officially recorded productions. i was still laughing even though I anticipated most of the gags/punchlines, and it was so cool to get the playbill with all the in-universe cornley stuff too.
it's still wild to me how the YouTube algorithm recommended ppgw to me since it was illegally uploaded by someone, and it came at the right time since I drastically needed cheering up, and four years later, I've finally seen them in person.

I almost hate how suddenly I’m obsessed with Djinn/Nandor as a ship but I just am. I just like the idea of them accidentally falling in love, like what if Nandor invited the Djinn to ride the bumblebee with him, what if Nandor keeps asking him to put him to coffin, etc. And this isn't only as Guillermo replacement timez but also in ways that's just oops accidentally romantic and sweet to this lonely and bored Djinn who's been trapped in a lamp for ages. I want the Djinn to be so amused by Nandor's ridiculousness, but also for him to grow a soft spot, for him to be genuinely proud when Nandor does (hopefully) achieve character growth(TM).
Nandor's fatal flaw is how he's so quick to resort to magical thinking and how he's always like this one (1) thing can fix me. He thinks that joining a cult to become a human will make him happy; he thinks knocking himself out into super slumber will (eventually) make him happy; he thinks finding a wife will make him happy; he thinks eat, prey, love traveling will make him happy. He's just so subsumed in the one (1) thing of the moment but he's never truly happy.
That's why a hypothetical relationship with the Djinn, a literal wish-granting magical being, hits so hard. The Djinn is the physical embodiment of Nandor’s flawed thinking, a conduit of Nandor trying so hard to be happy and missing the mark. The Djinn is a troll about it, sure, but he also feels pity and sympathy; there's an edged hope that maybe Nandor will learn his lesson along the way. That maybe Nandor can figure out what he wants and what it takes to be truly happy, and it's not about hyperfocused magical thinking.
Anyways, this is why I wrote a 13K Djinn/Nandor fic; thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Finally posted my 13K post-s2 Good Omens fic - thank you to @lieutenantdru and the lovely anonymous person for beta and plot feedback! I've been struggling a lot with this fic for weeks and just wanted to get it posted.
Summary: After Aziraphale leaves to rejoin Heaven's ranks, Crowley does his best to move on as he becomes Nina's flatmate, marathons a tonne of Coronation Street episodes, and reluctantly picks up ghost-hunting. But this isn't, of course, the end of the story.
Featuring: a MacGuffin hunt for a holy relic, a journey to San Francisco, and a journey to Hell. (Which are not the same place, no matter what some NextDoor users might tell you.) Read more...
