Shawn took a deep breath and leaned over the battlements.
"Halt! Who Goes There?" he said.
A ringing voice came up from below.
"It's me, Shawn. Your mum."
"Oh, hello, Mum. Hello, Mistress Weatherwax."
"Let us in, there's a good boy."
"Friend or Foe?"
"What?"
"It's what I've got to say, Mum. It's official. And then you've got to say Friend."
"I'm your mum."
"You've got to do it properly, Mum," said Shawn, in the wretched tones of one who knows he's going to lose no matter what happens next, "otherwise what's the point?"
"It's going to be Foe in a minute, my lad."
"Oooaaaww, Mum!"
"Oh, all right. Friend, then."
"Yes, but you could just be saying that--"
"Let us in right now, Shawn Ogg."

Granny Weatherwax has such powerful Old West gunslinger vibes sometimes.
There's that moment in Carpe Jugulum where she makes her dramatic entrance at Lancre Castle and it's basically a CLASSIC Western. The town (Lancre) has been overrun by a gang of bandits (Vampires). They've taken the Mayor (Verence) and the Marshall (basically everyone else but let's say Shawn Ogg) and they plan to settle in and stay, controlling the town from now on (drinking everyone's blood etc). The doors of the saloon open. A figure in black stands framed against the sunlight. She can barely stand up, but she holds herself together, her hand hovering over the holster on her hip.
The stories have so many influences and of course the comparison falls apart later on as new influences enter and get woven in. But there's always a High Noon Weatherwax Showdown.
If I could draw, I would draw so many gunslinger Weatherwax AUs.

Food as an aphrodisiac was not a concept that had ever caught on in Lancre, apart from Nanny Ogg’s famous Carrot and Oyster Pie. Carrots so you can see in the dark, she’d explain, and oysters so’s you’ve got something to look at.

Lancre operated on the feudal system, which was to say, everyone feuded all the time and handed on the fight to their descendants.

Lancre operated on the feudal system, which was to say, everyone feuded all the time and handed on the fight to their descendants. The chips on some shoulders had been passed down for generations. Some had antique value. A bloody good grudge, Lancre reckoned, was like a fine old wine. You looked after it carefully and left it to your children.
You never wrote to anyone. If you had anything to say, you said it to their face. It kept everything nice and hot.
- The feudal system, Terry Pratchett (Carpe Jugulum)

don't know where else to vent this thought but sergeant Jackrum and Nanny Ogg would get on like a house on fire once they both got over the fact that the other one is Foreign
You're SO right. The house is on fire because the alcohol they make together in a barrel spontaneously combusts when exposed to the open air. They drink it anyway. When they wake up 2 days later, neither remembers anything they did, save that it was fantastic fun and they're both a little sorer than they would've been 20 years ago.

Night had fallen in Lancre, and it was an old night. It was not the simple absence of day, patrolled by the moon and stars, but an extension of something that had existed long before there was any light to define it by absence. It was unfolding itself from under tree roots and inside stones, crawling back across the land.

I don't know what made me make this terrible meme referencing The Eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleburg, but here it is anyway.

so i'm relistening to Night Watch and like
Vimes is a Witch, right?
evidence:
can fade from view without really doing anything, much in the same way Granny Weatherwax can
second, third, and even Fourth thoughts, like Tiffany Aching
skilled in the use of Headology as demonstrated by his defusing of the crowd outside the Treacle Mine Road watch house and the interrogation of Ferret
even Vetinari thinks he wouldn't have been fooled by his advanced camouflage if he had been stood in Vimes' eyeline

I want to reread Lords and Ladies, but it's just gone spring in the Northern Hemisphere and that book really must be read in the summer.
