This might be my Last Post regarding Vivziepop

I'm just going to say this as a longtime fan since 2019 I was extremely disappointed, before all of this I started following her since 2019 and watched Hazbin Hotel and I thought it was good alongside Helluva Boss which I rewatched in the past of my Youtube Downloads bec the PLDT internet during the Coronavirus that started in 2020 was not great. I used to listen to her different music genres of her speedraws while I'm drawing and I also watch her speedraws and was amazed by the process on how her artworks was made. I even made a fanart about her for my college project

Artwork I Made for Technicals in History of Graphics Subject in First Year College for my favorite artist and animator Vivziepop.

Although despite Vivziepop's success as an Indie animator and for running Spindlehorse, I cannot deny she's a very controversial person to any video or tweets about her is always related to her past controversies, while I do see that there are unfair accusations thrown against her I still wish she addressed her other controversial stuff that she didn't addressed whether she's aware of what she did or not and I'm not going to mention any names bec I do not want to be involve deeper in the drama bec I've seen there are other tumblr and twitter posts calling her out, not to mention the fanbase is divided with diehard fans, neutral fans, haters, stalkers and critical fans. Also the reason why I'm really dissapointed with her bec any controversy that is meant to call out her attention she blocks people on Twitter whether the person is criticizing her show and her actions and not to mention she started becoming unprofessional lately. I can understand if blocking is meant to avoid harassment, if that's the case, but when it comes to criticism she was acting unprofessional and not to mention not addressing in a professional manner can make people go unprofessional against the creator, if I'm being honest she needs a PR Manager or Assistant to guide her. At the end I'm disappointed, I expected better from her, being a longtime fan since 2019 deeply hurts me, for me this might be my last post including the tumblr fanart works I liked related to the show. I just hope she won't get the worst Cancellation that might make her leave the internet and cancel Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss and her other projects, bec that is the worst thing to happen and I wish she needs to step up her game and try to improve her behavior including the writing of her shows. Only time will tell until she realizes this, and I don't follow Viviziepop or Ayy Lmao anymore, and I'm all for valid criticisms for Vivziepop just as long as the people were not harassing her or sending death threats and also making false accusations against her and just because you may not like her as a person does not give it a free pass to make up false accusations and lies against her and is not acceptable, the fandom should do better. Until then, goodbye Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss fandom, I used to be a fan of the show but I cannot support Vivziepop anymore, and it's time for me to leave.

BTW the art that I made for college will not be removed despite my mixed feelings about Vivziepop it would be a shame for me to delete it with all the hardwork I made it. So it will not be deleted from my Deviantart and my tumblr post including my other Hazbin Hotel redesign edits and Beelzebub redesign edits in my Deviantart account if you guys also want to check out my work there.

If Charlie Morningstar the Princess of Hell will redeem sinners by making Hazbin Hotel a place to rehabilitate sinners and make them become better people, then I hope Vivienne Medrano who uses her creativity through her artworks and being an indie animator to inspire her fans and artists like me, but she needs to grow up and become a better person.

Here's some more character art I've done from 2019-2020. I was going through a period of exploration with my art style and moving into drawing cats more and more. My style has changed even more since. (check my last post to see some of the updated artwork.)

The past few days I've been pulling all nighters, writing an outline and starting the script for the comic these characters are from. This is a story concept about 10 years in the making. It seems just now like my cowriter and I have made a big break through and figured out the story.

Before that, we only had a bunch of sequential events. Things were happening, but there was no conflict and hardly any meaningful character development.

I am so excited to share more about this project. I don't know how well this post will do, considering all of you are here for cat art, but I'd be happy to answer any type of questions you may have! Could even share more art of them from 2015-2017 if there's interest.

Which art do you like best? (´∀｀)♡

This is my second year in which I made a living just from my artwork and I'm SO grateful for that! ✨ I improved my commission schedule this year, I have always someone on my waiting list and I didn't have to take a break due to a lack of customers! Also, I'm happy with how my artwork looks but still want to improve it, and - my biggest struggle - I want to start drawing for myself. I bought a drawing tablet recently and I hope it helps me with it! 🤲

But let’s do a little rewind! As usual, almost all my artworks are commissioned work but in January I was posting redraws of my OCs which I didn't upload last year - I have to get back to those it was so much fun! This year I did more fanfiction covers (February, August, November, December) - which I LOVE to draw and I added this option to my commission info! Also did more illustrations with more than two characters (April, May) which is always challenging - especially interaction between them - but group pics were something I always I wanted to do more. I also did a few things for myself (June) including my OCs which is always refreshing to get back to my own creations. The next thing I enjoy making are "comic pages" (July, September) It makes storytelling in art much easier and fun, maybe I should make a proper comic page in the new year? And I have to mention making Bleach-related staff (March, October) as a long Bleach fan I still can't believe we have a new anime season, and making artwork connected to character design is something I would like to expand in 2024. Unfortunately, I didn't do any art raffles and art challenges this year and it's something I find joy in so I definitely have to go back to it! ~ I didn't really meet my last year's art resolutions so I will not try to force myself to do anything this year lol But I hope I will still do what brings me joy and this is what I wish for you too!

ATTENTION! THIS IS DRAKSON PROPAGANDA!

Hello and good morning, afternoon, evening, or night. I come to you with Papa's Next Chefs propaganda, possibly the most important propaganda I'm going to spread. From May 15th to May 18th, we need to take down this MENACE!

"But Yakko!" I hear you say, "why is Kaleb such a menace?" That is a great question with a simple answer: HE HAS NO FLIPDECK.

Every single character who debuted before Papa's Mocharia has received a Flipdeck, an informative card that will hopefully let us know a little bit more about the character in question, from their age to their job to the people they know. All of them except Kaleb. Even most of the Mocharia debutants have Flipdecks now! You know who doesn't have one? KALEB.

Why does this matter so much? Well, this means that Kaleb has a high chance of winning Papa's Next Chefs BEFORE getting a Flipdeck. As I said when campaigning for Kayla over Amiria a while back, there's a HUGE chance that if Kaleb wins this PNC, his ENTIRE Flipdeck will be about how much Kaleb loves working for Papa Louie and making food at Papa's Fooderia. Maybe something else will be mentioned offhandedly, but if he wins, there won't be much room for him to prove himself, especially since he hasn't been mentioned in any Flipdecks beforehand and we haven't gotten a platformer in eight years!

Now, all of this is nice, but is there any other reason to vote against Kaleb? Well, get this: I'm 100% convinced that if Drakson wins this round, this could hurt Tohru's chances! As you all know, Tohru completely destroyed Kasey O in the last round. She's BEYOND hydrogen bomb, but she isn't unbeatable. Mandi, Peggy, Utah, Trishna, Shannon, and Clover have all done it, and I think it's possible that she could lose this year as well for any of you afraid of her winning, and the first step is to eliminate the much more beatable Kaleb. Why? Well, Kaleb's opponent is Drakson, an edgy edgelord who I've already seen paired up with a certain Liezel in artwork, whether it be as siblings, lovers, or just close friends! People already see chemistry between these two, and chemistry is the secret to a winning Papa's Next Chefs team! How did Scarlett and Rudy stomp Papa's Next Chefs 2015? Chemistry! How did Allan barely edge out Hacky Zak in 2020? Chemistry with Akari! Heck, how did Cooper and Prudence win the first ever Next Chefs competition? CHEMISTRY. People already see chemistry between Drakson and Liezel, and this is IMPORTANT to a godly chef pair! If Kaleb wins, Drakson loses, which hurts Liezel, which helps Tohru!

It's not too late, and I'm posting this the day before the next round so I can reach people in time! STOP THE MENACE, VOTE DRAKSON!

Aaaaaah 🥰 I been so excited about JK's new vamp concept photos. I had already been planning to draw a vamp Kook this month and seeing him doing the concept officially got me even more motivated to work on this piece! 💜 As some of y'all may already know, I really love drawing pretty vampires haha~ Been a while since the last one I did though, that previous one was of Oneus' Leedo. 🥰

Also had done Jin back in 2020 and want to do the rest of the boys as vamps too at some point. Just might be a little slow at getting them all done. (Will probs be in between other arts I'll be focusing on too) Aaaand it's been a while so I might do a new one of Jin too while I'm at it in. We'll see 🤔

But I really enjoyed working on this piece and once again tried to play a bit with the lighting 💜 The flowers are supposed to be orchids but I'm not used to drawing them so they may not look too accurate 😂

Once again, I think my art retrospective will require a post of its own, much like last year. (Hopefully by the time you read this, I will have edited this post to include a link, otherwise you can search for it in my blog if you’re curious.) It’s somewhat funny in that I didn’t really want to do one at first: namely because they’re time-consuming to write, and I thought I wouldn’t have much to say in the first place. But the more I think about it and with 2023 commemorating ten years of my online art profile, I feel like I’m honestly obligated to write down some sort of reflection--if not specifically for 2023, at least for the whole ten yards.

*Note: This is an acknowledgement that there exists one artwork I made this year, published under an alternative label/on an alternate blog, that got more notes than most of the art in this list. Anyways, what better piece to post today than my version of the Creation of Hyrule? This was my very first stained glass piece I did I think back in 2020! 3 Years on Tumblr: A Tribute, a Biography, a Farewell

Hello! My name is peysi. I created my tumblr blog on August 21st, 2019.

Wow, it’s hard to believe that for the past three years, besides a single name change, I’ve been using the same exact tumblr blog! I’ve seen blogs purposefully deactivating, blogs accidentally deactivating, even people deleting their earliest (awkward) posts. Yet my blog has remained largely the same. Even the blog title, “peysi blog,” and description, “i have no idea how this works,” from day one have remained there to this day.

These four images symbolize some of the greatest moments of my blog—all of which happen to be Minecraft-related. First, there's the Skyblock image, which I made by copying and pasting images of 3D block renders until it resembled the actual Skyblock island, and in Feb 2020 it was my first tumblr post to pass 1,000 notes. Second, there's "building houses in UHC," a trick I learned and pulled off in multiple Hypixel UHC games, and edited together a video showcasing it.

Third, there's a meme image of a player's inventory filled with buckets of axolotl, and it's in my most popular post with an original joke (partly because I took the screenshot), gaining over 10,000 notes. Fourth is an artwork, my magnum opus, where I combined all of the art tricks and skills I learned during my years on tumblr alone: brushes, shading, action, and the mathematics of perspective involving Minecraft blocks.

Unfortunately, good things don't last forever. You see, I start college classes in 2 days, and I know I can't handle college while using tumblr, at least not on the same level I used to. Plus, it's not as fun for me to use tumblr anymore when I've been using it nearly daily for 3 years straight, with my longest ever break being two weeks. So, I'm going to take a pretty long break from tumblr. There's a chance I'll return. But right now, it's good to have this behind me.

Last year, I gave an autobiographical recap of the first two years of my blog. Now, I'm going to do the same for the last year. Finally, I'll be doing a face reveal at the end of this post. I'm a little short on time writing this, so there may be some moments I skipped. But without further ado, let's dive right in.

6. Aug 2021–Mar 2022: Electroman Adventures

One difference you might notice between last year's post and this post is the change in naming convention. Gone are the days of naming "phases" after singular popular posts anymore—a consequence of little happening back then. In the final year of my blog, my phases are named after entire sideblogs I created. Also, as "mineblr" and the topic of Minecraft continued to wane in popularity on tumblr, I was looking for other reasons to continue using the website.

Inspired by seven-oh-four naming her Geometry Dash sideblog after an official level, I created electroman-adventures on Aug 26th, 2021. (Sidenote: this was just five days after my last year's blog anniversary. The next day, one of my posts from Oct 2020 passed 10,000 notes. A lot has happened so far in just a few days after my last anniversary! Today, I have 8 posts with over 10,000 notes.)

I was already very interested in GD, having posted about it on multiple occasions on my main blog, but this was the first time I gave myself a space to fully indulge in the hobby. Only a few other people here played the game professionally too, and I got to meet them: i-want-it-weird-and-wonderful and her sideblog, joelymammoth, dragonfruuit, raspberreeee, and mad-hatterene.

In Dec 2021, I became the first person to discover that mad-hatterene was actually the tumblr blog of "Blitzer," a person that's currently a GD moderator, a List Leader of the Demonlist, and verifier of the update to "Tenth Circle" by DeniPol. They designed the thumbnail for paqoe's "Silent Clubstep" verification, and their current verification project is "Deimos" by ItsHybrid and more, an upcoming main-list extreme demon. Apparently they made their tumblr account 6 years ago, and only returned to tumblr because the GD community here grew after I started posting about GD. What a find!

In other news, Deltarune Chapter 2 came out in Sep 2021, and since I liked Chapter 1 back when it came out, I embraced the popularity and culture of Chapter 2 unfolding on tumblr. In Dec 2021, I joined Koicraft (World 5), a Minecraft SMP by popular mineblr mega-taiga. After one event on this server gave players special items, I fought with a friend named GoGlitch using potions of Slowness V, which I memorialized in this artwork.

7. Mar 2022–Aug 2022: World Heritage MC

It's hard to describe the state of mineblr at the time I created world-heritage-mc. Despite how strong the "Minecraft renaissance" was in 2019, these days the #mineblr tag dwindled to just one """popular""" post a day. Discontent with the current situation, along with discovering a new trick, I had an ambitious idea: create a Minecraft blog to browse tumblr as it was in 2019, like I was still in the past. And thus, on Mar 2nd, 2022, world-heritage-mc was born.

This isn't the original blog that world-heritage-mc runs on today. To explain why that's the case, and where the original blog is today, I have to go back to early March. Originally, it was just me running the blog, generating dashboard links for me to browse. It also became the de-facto "heritage post" blog of Minecraft content, which was a second responsibility I gave myself. Eventually, I realized that all of it was too much work for me to handle alone. So, I opened up moderator applications.

In total, four other people would end up joining the project. These legends were obsidianapple, seven-oh-four, aylt, and lunagaron. I created a discord server for the five of us to talk in, designed a new group blog for world-heritage-mc, made personalized emails and tumblr blogs for all of us (including turning the first iteration of the blog into my personal blog), taught them how to use the blog, and handed the new accounts over to the mods. This was my first time leading a group of people, and I was very nervous.

However, as if by divine intervention, on the very first day of our operations, pokemonlove4ever was created. This satire blog, which got a laugh out of everyone for the brief time it existed, including the mods in our team (for we had no part in it), placed a deep-rooted fear in me regarding group blogs. Also, naming the blog "world-heritage-mc" put it in my head that we were competing with other "heritage post" blogs, such as sonicheritageposts, undertaleheritageposts, tf2heritageposts, pokemonheritageposts, etc.

In June 2022, tumblr half-patched the trick we were using by preventing group blogs from viewing posts on our dashboard older than 7 days. This prevented us from carrying out both of our tasks on world-heritage-mc: reblogging posts from "old" dashboards, and stumbling upon posts from 2019 that we could deem "minecraft heritage posts." Normally this patch shouldn't have stopped us, as we could easily have found a workaround, but the event gave me a moment to pause and second-guess my ability as a leader.

This whole time, despite all of the mods in our group being my friends, I never learned on a personal level what each person excelled at. As a result, I couldn't delegate responsibilities that matched up with their talents. By the end, all of them were doing the same-old monotonous tasks, and they felt bored. So, we quit doing the two tasks, switched the main role of the blog to being "just five people controlling the same mineblr," and that's what you'll see currently when you view world-heritage-mc.

In other news, on Apr 25th, 2022, zetexkindasucks led an exodus from GD Twitter to tumblr. Overnight, the size of "gmdtumblr," as the community here was now called, grew tenfold, and I got the chance to meet many new people, players so skilled I never could have imagined them being on tumblr. raspberreeee created a new group blog comprised of pre-exodus gmdtumblr members called "dear-nostalgists," inspired by world-heritage-mc but instead being for GD. However, due to there only being a few real members of gmdtumblr, there was no audience for the group blog, and it went under.

But, just as quickly as the Twitter users came, they all left (the reason being that they realized Elon Musk wasn't going to buy Twitter), and tumblr was empty once again. In Jul 2022, I decided that for the first time, I was going to join Twitter. I know, shocker, considering that I'm probably the biggest proponent of tumblr. But I found out now that I turned 18, I was finally mature enough to handle Twitter, and despite my worst expectations, I actually had a lot of fun there.

I finally talked to the people I'd actually wanted to meet for so long, and the event spurred a new moment of creativity in me. When I returned to tumblr, I reposted what I created back here. Because tumblr will always be my home. Also, while I was gone, raspberreeee silently deactivated, and dear-nostalgists went with it. I'm sorry he's gone, and for the unfair attitude I treated him with while he was here. I hope he finds opportunity elsewhere on the internet.

When I announced a long time ago I would do this on June 2022, nobody wanted it because it stressed me out so much at the time that it scared everyone else. But now, two months later, I am at peace with myself. This is what I always wanted. As a closing note, it begs the question: given that it was my blog description for 3 years, do I have any "idea how this works" yet?

Thoughts on this art and this year below the cut:

January: Because I wanted to branch out from fanart a little, I decided to draw a scene of a Ukrainian girl in the wintertime. I feel like this art set the scene for how my style was going to turn out for the year, and I enjoy the vibes. Also, an honorable mention to this drawing, since I think it also set the stage for how I'd keep drawing going forward.

February: Though I drew what has to be a significant part of this year's art in January, I only drew a quick sketch of my ocs in February. I'm not super proud of this one, but I am happy that I did draw more ocs in general this year (though, most of these were confined to a sketchbook and not uploaded to dA).

March: If you want art of your rarepair, sometimes you have to draw it yourself. I also really love how this one turned out—it feels sort of cozy.

April: This one too! I love finnrey, and it honestly felt past time to draw it.

May: It feels weird that this is the only completed drawing of Eighth I've done this year, and while it's fun, I'm not thrilled with it. Six years is a long time to go off of nine lines haha. This one was pretty fun to actually draw, though, and I'd love to do the concept more justice sometime.

June: Hey, look! More non-Star Wars art! Doing even these simple landscapes helped me expand my horizons, I feel. I mostly like how this one looks, but the lane lines completely ruin the little perspective there is, so just. Ignore them.

July: This one's pretty simple, but I honestly love contributing my one Voe artwork per year, so it's going here. I really feel like I have a firm handle on her face now, and she's now a character that it's fun and comfortable to draw.

August: Also didn't draw much of anything that I uploaded here (there were many more sketches in this month), but I did have some per-usual last-minute art for Remembering Resistance day.

September: This was a…very late art request fill, but I did enjoy getting to draw the Grand Inquisitor and brush up on my fabric skills! I like this a lot better than when I tried a similar concept in 2020 or 2021, so I'm glad I'm learning something lmao.

October: This one!!!! Definitely a contender for favorite of the year, and I just love drawing Keeve, Terec, and Ceret. I actually just love these three in general, but we'll see how THR treats them in Phase III.

November: Nothing completed uploaded here, but I did do a sketch of Trilla and her commander, which you can't really go wrong with.

December: And finally, I close out with a pyreny vent piece where, of course, I feel like I did the best highlighting I've done on Pyre's armor. It was a pretty stressful few weeks, so to get a moment to draw this was nice.

This year I was voted Best Artist of the Year for Nashville Scene. An award I am happy to receive. For the 1st time in my entire career I put together a show exactly how I saw it, because apparently I've earned that much respect. I'm sure that show played a big part of this award, because I hadn't really shown you guys much artwork since 2020 started. There were two 8 month stretches where I didn't post anything. So to go from that to Artist of the year is pretty damn crazy.

Now I'm about to say some shit and it might be triggering, some of it may be wrong, so if you're just looking for a good time, keep scrolling.

The level of dissonance that I felt between this award and my reality was so high that I didn't post it when I found out. I just kept going on with my life. Why?

I won artist of the year for a city that I can't afford to live in anymore. Can you imagine how that feels? The kind of mind-f*#k that is to a Black person? Ppl ask me why did you move way out to Gallatin?? Because I refuse to live in someones affordable hole in the wall just to be in an "It City." Its not like I had a huge list of choices. Curious how Nashville seems to be the last major city in the U.S. to be regarded in this way, but we act and charge ppl like we've been like this since the 90s. We havent. Being in Nashville is great---if you're white or have white sponsors. Black ppl do not own space here, we are allowed space here. Big difference. IN FACT, I wonder how many white owned galleries would even be willing show my work based on its merits? Based on this award? Y'all dont know how many galleries ignore me and my proposals and I'm sure I'm not the only Black artist in Nashville to say that. Is art about change, or is it about keeping ppl complacent? Capitalism dictates the latter.

Everybody is grateful for 2022. So grateful. I'm happy to be alive, but I refuse to be grateful for crumbs...not when there's ppl less than a mile away who have so much food that it spoils before they can even finish eating it. I'm not saying that this award is crumbs, I'm saying that ppl are simply lying about the reality of Nashville. And I dont want the perception of my own image to get wrapped up in that. It feels like we millennials have traded revolution for inspirational quotes and "exception to the rule" anecdotes.

Is celebrating the new year even a custom in Black and African nations? Because to me January 1st is just another day.

Thank you @nashvillescene for recognizing my work. But you gave this award to a displaced artist who is fed up with Nashville. I'm not quitting, I'm just mad.

Seattle’s SORCIA Strike a Gnarly Chord with ‘Lost Season’

~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~

The last time we checked in with the Rain City's doom-stoner-sludge trio SORCIA, they had just released their EP, 'Death By Design' (2021). Two years later, a follow-up: 'Lost Season' (2023).

Opening number, "Miss Ann Thrope," as it turns out, is a play on words for misanthrope -- you know, someone who just doesn't like people. Lyrics reflect the kind of alienation familiar to anyone who's tried to take on the world and been chewed up and spit out, left with only frayed nerves and a low level of trust. "Controlling the things I say, I lash out at you. Our toxic love affair, a love that’s true." The downcast dirge winds and grinds like a menacing serpent. Verses are clean and searching, delivered with a certain humanity that is both relatable and appealing. Meanwhile, the chorus is as mean and grizzly as you could ask for. "She feeds off my anger," utters vocalist/guitarist Neal De Atley, "She is well fed."

"An Axe Named Otis" may be a reference to the strange and twisted tale that is 2001's Frailty, in which Bill Paxton has a revelation from God and begins destroying demons with an axe he finds in a barn. Carved on this implement of destruction is the nickname "Otis." It's a harsh, vengeful affair, with a blood-spattered backdrop of leaden doom, evil sludge, and brittle percussion.

"Faded Dune" is a groovy southern stoner romp that could be an homage to Goatsnake. With whisky in hand, you could just melt right into it. "Dusty," meanwhile, conjures a blurry sunset and features sanguine vocal harmonies from bassist Jessica Brasch. Then the record closes with "Entering the Eighth House," an astrological reference to Scorpio and Pluto, a place of sex and death.

Sorcia's Lost Season soaks in dark blues, with melancholy hooks and forthright lyrical contemplation. Look for it this weekend on Desert Records (pre-order here). Stick it on a playlist with Acid King, Dorthia Cottrell, Saint Karloff, Goatsnake, and Legba. And don't miss the band's forthcoming western states tour, kicking off July 28th (dates below).

Seattle stoner/doom trio Sorcia prepare to unleash their highly anticipated sophomore full-length ‘Lost Season’, their heaviest and most eclectic offering to date.

After releasing their debut album just days before the world shut down in March of 2020, things looked bleak for musicians as they were forced to stare into the unknown. During this dark time, Sorcia persevered by pouring themselves into songwriting, accomplishing not only the completion of a challenging EP, but also this brand new full-length they would reflectively come to name ‘Lost Season.’

Abt 2000s 2010s shoujo mangakas..

Are they still active in Japan? Or the lack of info about their new works on mainstream intl..is them retiring?

Or those 90s 00s shoujo artist just changed artstyle?

Hi, thank you for your question!

I’d say it does depend on the mangaka. Wataru Yoshizumi has a series that started in 2019 and appears to be ongoing. I know that Mia Ikumi tragically passed away from a Subarachnoid hemorrhage this year, but did the artwork for the Tokyo Mew Mew Re-turn manga in 2020 not long before her passing. However, even she hadn’t put out any works for many years until then. Pink Hanamori also has an ongoing Mermaid Melody sequel in Nakayoshi, but this seems to be the most recent thing she’s done since 2008. Mihona Fujii resumed the GALS! manga in 2019 after it seemingly ended in 2002. Arina Tanemura is also still active. Nakahara An of Kirarin Revolution fame finished her latest series in 2020. Nami Akimoto released quite a few works as recently as 2021, though they seem to mostly be single-volume releases. These are just a few examples, but in my experience, some of the most prolific mangaka from around that time are still active, but they usually come out with a new series every few years and tend to maybe have one ongoing manga currently running in a magazine (Tanemura and Yoshizumi). Others may not release anything for years, but may end up releasing a reboot/revival for one of their most famous and nostalgic works (such as in the case of Ikumi and Hanamori). One manga artist that comes to mind who seems to keep releasing very consistently over the years since around the mid 2000s is Ema Toyama. Her works have seemed oddly inescapable within the past 10 or so years. I do occasionally find mangaka for some series that are outright no longer active, though I’m struggling to think of any off the top of my head at the moment.

There could be various reasons for why mangaka take long breaks in between series or just outright quit after some time. As everyone knows, being a mangaka is extremely demanding and stressful work. Miho Obana, for instance, released her last work in 2010 and has a past history of tendonitis which she has gone on hiatus for before. It’s not unusual for the work to lead to health problems due to the extremely strict deadlines and heavy amounts of stress. There could also be other personal issues in their life that need tending to.

Another thing that could be affecting your perception could also be the number of series released where you live. Arina Tanemura still seems to be popular enough in the west (or at least well known enough), but I swear a lot of the popular shoujo mangaka from the 90s and early 2000s seldom get works released here anymore (at least where I live, in the United States. I’m not sure if its different where you live). I was actually relatively surprised (but pleasantly so) to see that Marmalade boy was getting an English re-release by Seven Seas. There’s seemingly such a limited number of shoujo series that get released outside of Japan and I feel that what is readily available where we live might not accurately reflect the reality of who is and is not still active. When you haven’t seen a work released from one of your favorite mangaka from that time period in a long time, it can make you wonder what they’re currently doing, and if they’re even still making manga at all. You also make an interesting point about how there are even fewer shoujo anime adaptations than there once were, but I feel that we’re starting to see a small change in that, and I hope that it continues. I could get into another rant about why we’re seeing such a lack in shoujo adaptations today, but I’ll refrain from doing so.

I’ll admit I’m certainly no authority on the matter and I worry my answer won’t be very helpful. There are certainly people who could give a much more informed, in-depth answer, but I hope I could at least provide some insight, if any at all.

Personal question: would you be comfortable sharing some old art vs new art comparison over the years of you drawing? It's very inspiring to see how much people have improved and how far they've come.

Sure! If anyone ever wondered how much I worked on my main sona.. Here's realllyyy old art of him. The first drawing if I recall- made during my 2018-2019 big depresso after I hadn't drawn for almost a year if you count in between months.

This art is considerably worse than drawings I made before late 2018, but I went through a lot so you could say I experienced pretty bad muscle memory loss. It was part of my recovery and learning to care for myself. I didn't draw much during late 2018 and early 2019

As you probably can tell his design changed a lot. I used to draw hair really weird and wild, too. I've gotten used to making art with 3D aid.

This is art of my OC Asriel in 2019, I was really struggling a lot with finding my style again. This may be before I started leaning more on 3D, all though I can't tell. This might be drawn with Terawell Design Doll 3D pose as a thumbnail. (note; I pose stuff myself or adjust pre-made poses.) As you can see, 3D doesn't make your art look better, you need to actually understand anatomy somewhat to make it work.

This is my most recent drawing of Asriel. (All though this is technicly Asriel as ''PENDRA'' My coloring style has changed a lot, but I do have a lot of variety when it comes to rendering techniques.

I drew mostly traditional during my depression, which also were my more finished artworks at the time. (I'm not going in depth on my depression itself.)

Last time I drew Tsuki was in 2022, but you can see there's a massive difference in style, and how I draw hair.

I don't really use the above rendering anymore because it became exhausting though.

(I just realized all examples I've given are blonde OCs lol.)

Anyway I hope this helps people who feel like their stuff hasn't changed much. Changes can be gradual, like 2020 looks similar to 2019, but the facial structure has changed while the rendering hasn't changed much. Then around 2021-2022 my style started to really form specific noticeable traits that I still really like today.

I'm really happy with my style atm. I like how I draw faces. I could still do better on expressions though- Most of my characters aren't super expressive due their personalities. As for rendering, thats often subject to change. I like a mix of soft shade with cell-shading feels. But comic-y Style.
