In a historic decision Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled the state must adhere to a 123-year-old penal code barring all abortions except in cases when “it is necessary to save” a pregnant person’s life.

The law, which can be traced to as early as 1864, also carried a prison sentence of two to five years for abortion providers.

The Arizona Supreme Court has ruled on whether the state’s current ban on nearly all abortions after 15 weeks will stay in place, or if it will revert to a far narrower 123-year-old law with roots in the Civil War era. CNN is currently reviewing the decision.

The older law barred the procedure in all cases regardless of gestation, except when “it is necessary to save” a pregnant person’s life. It carried a prison sentence of two to five years for abortion providers.

The case is the latest high-profile example of the battle over abortion access that has played out across several states since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the US Supreme Court in 2022. Since that decision, nearly two dozen states have banned or limited access to the procedure. Providers have warned that restrictive policies on abortion access place patients at risk of poor health outcomes and doctors at risk of legal liability.

In a notice Monday, the Arizona court indicated it will file an opinion in Planned Parenthood of Arizona vs. Mayes/Hazelrigg at approximately 10 a.m. PT Tuesday.

Justices heard opening arguments in the case last December, when abortion rights opponents claimed the state should revert to the 1901 ban, and advocates asked the court to affirm the 2022 law allowing abortions up to 15 weeks, CNN previously reported.

When he signed the law in March 2022, then-Gov. Doug Ducey stated the 2022 law would not override the older law.

In late 2022, the Arizona Court of Appeals ruled both abortion laws in the state must be reconciled, or “harmonized,” and that abortion is legal through 15 weeks when provided by licensed physicians in compliance with the state’s other laws and regulations, CNN previously reported.

The state Supreme Court was asked for clarity following months of uncertainty and legal wrangling over which law should apply in the state.

Last week, Arizona for Abortion Access, a group of abortion rights organizations, announced it had gathered enough signatures for a November 2024 ballot measure that would ask voters to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution.

The push is part of a massive effort to get abortion on the 2024 ballot in several states, a move abortion rights advocates are hopeful will restore some power to voters rather than state courts.

What I've come up with are three levels of abstraction that (hopefully) serve as different levels of difficulty. The first week-ish draws more from 2019's style, and the last couple weeks are the more recent style, with the middle being a segue between them. (i kinda struggled to make questions, but you're welcome to use the prompts as keywords for your own!)

~most readers generally express gratitude and understanding and patience! fandom culture (across fandoms) shifts and changes all the time, so while there are times in fandom (generally) in which the ✨entitled expectation✨ is for fic authors to "WRITE FAST, PUBLISH OFTEN," there are also times in which readers go out of their way to share beautifully encouraging messages like "even if you never update again, i am so grateful for what you have given us (so far)!" and "i will wait for this story to update for the rest of my life, and i will be happy with an update no matter how long it takes" and, often—both messages at the same time. 💖

a good skill to develop is the mental strength to withstand the not-so-nice messages while absorbing the positivity of the lovely ones! i don't post or respond to the really nasty anons i sometimes receive 👀 like the ones that accuse me of having "abandoned nearly all [my] fics"—i personally delete them immediately! anons like that do not deserve someone else's ✨energy✨. The IRS says it has collected an additional $360 million in overdue taxes from delinquent millionaires as the agency’s leadership tries to promote the latest work it has done to modernize the agency with Inflation Reduction Act funding that Republicans are threatening to chip away. Leadership from the federal tax collector held a call with reporters Thursday to give updates on how the agency has used a portion of the tens of billions of dollars allocated to the agency through Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law in August 2022. Along with the $122 million collected from delinquent millionaires last October, now nearly half a billion dollars in back taxes from rich tax cheats has been recouped, IRS leaders say. The announcement comes as the IRS braces for a more severe round of funding cuts. The agency cuts previously agreed upon by the White House and congressional Republicans in the debt ceiling and budget cuts package passed by Congress last year — which included $20 billion rescinded from the IRS over two years — would be frontloaded as part of the overall spending package for the current fiscal year that could help avoid a partial government shutdown later this month. IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said that “the impact of the rescission that’s being discussed as part of the current budget will not impact our efforts until the later years.” He said the agency would still spend its now-$60 billion allocation over the next 10 years and spread the need for more funding into later years. “Our intent is to spend the money to have maximum impact in helping taxpayers,” he said, “to have maximum impact now and in the immediate future.” “My hope is that as we demonstrate the positive impact that IRA funding is having for all taxpayers, that there will be a need and a desire amongst policymakers at that time to restore IRS funding so that we can continue the momentum that’s having a very positive impact,” Werfel said. As of December, the IRS says it opened 76 examinations into the largest partnerships in the U.S. that include hedge funds, real estate investment partnerships and large law firms. “It’s clear the Inflation Reduction Act funding is making a difference for taxpayers,” Werfel said. “For progress to continue we must maintain a reliable, consistent annual appropriations for our agency.”

6, 7, 8 - 05/12/2022 : was thinking of what she'd wear to her school disco, somethin trendy, this would have been 2002, i was alive but not old enough to remember how teens were dressing lmfao, but anyhow i love this outfit, something she'd never wear otherwise, but she tries to fit in a bit.. also another little Toni, shes not emo enough here tho

First review of the year, yay, and it’s for a GOOD ONE: the totally wonderful, heart-fulfilling She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat (Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna/TsukuTabe)! This was a GREAT DORAMA, with LOTS going on. I’m giving this the ultra-deep treatment, so: long post and spoilers!

(I know some folks had issues with finding the dorama to watch; please follow @furritsubs for all the info!)

I had posted an update on my viewing of the show earlier in December, and I’ll quickly review the context in which this show was aired, although my last post kinda explains things, too:

So I’ve written before that NHK, Japan’s largest broadcaster, doesn’t always mind taking risks with their shows, like the wonderful Life as a Girl and many more. As well, NHK has a number of different show formats, the most famous one being their asadoras, or 15-minute everyday morning dramas (asa = morning, dora = short for dorama). NHK also has a late-night 15-minute drama format called a yorudora, and TsukuTabe was their latest 10-episode installment before the end of 2022. (Many Japanese QL shows air in late-night slots -- like Kinou Nani Tabeta and Cherry Magic on TV Tokyo -- I think in part because they are considered more “adult” and/or not necessarily meant for primetime/family slots. However, the popularity of these shows, I think, far outweighs their airing times.)

So! A late-night GL by NHK. And one that’s reminiscent of a few other shows -- namely, the aforementioned Kinou Nani Tabeta and Cherry Magic, both of which I saw echoes of in TsukuTabe. (For the IMPORTANT record: this was my first GL. If I’m missing any obvious GL tropes, forgive me in advance. And NHK has not shied away from queer/lesbian content before, most notably 2019′s Mistress.)

The show is set up between two neighbors, Nomoto and Kasuga. Nomoto loves to cook, but doesn’t have a huge appetite. And she loves to cook HUGE PORTIONS. Who’s gonna eat a huge portion of food?

She finds Kasuga in her building one day, carrying loads of delivery, which Kasuga clarifies is just for herself. Nomoto’s intrigued. She helplessly makes a huge meal one night, hears Kasuga approaching, and invites her in -- and away we go.

A couple of themes that I’m reflecting on. First, food. Damn it: Japan just WINS AT FOOD DORAMAS. YOU WIN! Food doramas -- Wakako Zake, Kodoku no Gurume, Kinou Nani Tabeta, SO MANY MORE -- you just suck me in. I even cook from these shows! LOOK AT THIS!

Yes, it IS beautiful!

At least in my opinion, when themes of food and cooking are connected to QL content in Asian content, I think the design is intentional to draw in food-loving audiences that may otherwise NOT watch QL. I felt that strongly with Kinou Nani Tabeta, which was wildly successful in Japan, not withstanding the unbelievable casting and acting of the A-list actors, Nishijima Hidetoshi and Uchino Seiyou.

But what I loved first about TsukuTabe is that the themes of food and cooking were used to tell multiple story strands about Nomoto and Kasuga throughout the show. Whereas in KNT, it was the actual cooking and eating of dinner every night that shaped Shiro-san’s and Kenji’s permanent relationship together, Nomoto and Kasuga had individually defined, previous relationships with food and cooking that just so happened to coincide upon their meeting. For instance, Kasuga reveals that she eats tremendous portions to make up for a childhood that was very conservative and sexist, where she was made to eat smaller portions than her father and brother, and was oftentimes left hungry at night.

Nomoto herself reveals in the middle of the series to Kasuga that cooking for people makes her so happy that she can literally cry, and she does.

Nomoto hasn’t had anyone else in her life before who would respond to the huge portions she loves cooking. It could come off as transactional, but for Nomoto, it is not at all. Her huge portions of cooking are meant as an investment in another person. If another person ever responded to her huge portions with total abandon and appreciation, as Kasuga does -- then that person has totally fulfilled Nomoto’s emptiness.

But what I also love about this theme of cooking is that TsukuTabe uses it to make a distinct critique of male-oriented Japanese society -- in that Nomoto has previously been pegged as a family-oriented person for her love of cooking.

I LOVE THIS. Oooooh gosh, it is pointed and spicy. Oftentimes, I interpret cooking as a means of compassion and investment -- a definition of creating family through the intimacy of cooking and eating together.

BUT I LOVED THAT TsukuTabe turned this on its head. TsukuTabe’s storyline definitely checked me. Here, TsukuTabe points to its audience and says -- if you cook together, create a family together -- why does that responsibility always fall on women? Why does it always SEEM to fall on women? Even in the nostalgic gaze of adults reminiscing about their childhoods -- isn’t it usually the mothers making the home and table for their family? Do you KNOW what it TAKES for a mom to actually pull that shit off? I love that Nomoto calls bullshit on all of it in one shot.

And actually, KNT turned the tables a bit on this paradigm, too. KNT showed that a gay male couple could still say tadaima and okaeri to each other, to cook together, and to have dinner every night. I don’t think the KNT storylines were necessarily created as a critique of society, though -- those storylines were more meant to demonstrate to an audience that a gay male couple CAN be family. (EDITED TO ADD: the wonderful @bengiyo notes in the notes that KNT actually had quite a bit of critique about the way gay males are treated in society, and I totally agree, so I want to edit this post without hiding my previous content -- I think the writers of the KNT dorama and manga both handled the societal critiques in more subtle ways than in TsukuTabe. To reinterpret what I was trying to say about KNT -- I think the presentation of common familial practices in KNT was deliberate to demonstrate that those exact practices can absolutely be used in a same-sex relationship, helping a Japanese audience to see that family is family, no matter who’s in it.)

TsukuTabe does not shy away from the critiques. Besides this cooking-related storyline (I mean -- Kasuga literally being hungry as a child, chosen to receive less food than her younger brother -- BOTH of her parents were total misogynists), there’s also stories about equity told WITHIN the food itself.

In Japan, there are often assumptions held that between a cishet couple, a woman will eat less than a man. This concept is borne out in part by couples bowls, often given as wedding gifts, where one bowl is smaller than the other.

I actually first saw the trope of couples bowls in the second volume of the Old Fashion Cupcake manga. Togawa and Nozue are on a trip to an onsen, and are wandering the town in their onsen yukatas (very cute). They go into a ceramics store, and Nozue is silently struggling with wanting to get two bowls for himself and Togawa -- but all the couples bowl sets are different sizes. (The scene ends with the cashier leveraging her radar to create a set of two same-sized bowls for our darling Cupcakes.)

Kasuga is shown in the beginning of TsukuTabe at a restaurant ordering a karaage set. The shop’s master gives her less rice than the male customer sitting next to her. She seethes. And asks for more rice. She gets her full portion.

So we know that Nomoto eats less than Kasuga -- but I happen to really, deeply love the way this difference is portrayed in certain parts of the show, because I think it indicates that the series is treating this pairing as a cishet couple would normally be treated in everyday Japanese society -- the kind of society that TsukuTabe is very pointedly criticizing.

This scene depicts the gals eating haruko meshi, a salmon donburi topped with ikura (see footnote). I’m showing the first two screenshots purely for the GORGEOUS LOOKING DISH, HOLY EFF, but I love the overhead shot of their differing portions!

I love the looped critique shown in this shot, while also honing in on who Nomoto and Kasuga are, authentically. They’re gonna eat different portions because they’re different people, which, like, sometimes happens in a coupling. Why should they be treated differently than a cishet couple, simply for both being women? I think that’s what the show is saying.

AND: there’s a small but lovely resolution to this particular thread in the last episode. Kasuga takes Nomoto back to the restaurant where Kasuga was initially served less rice. The shopkeepers changed their policy, as Kasuga discovers -- and they ask all customers if they wanted a small, medium, or large portion of rice. Nomoto, of course, takes the small, and Kasuga takes the large.

Guh. I just love this. I really love the quiet critique happening in these shots, in these differing portions of food, that allow these two to be themselves while coming to terms with what it means for them to be spending time together.

So, speaking of spending time together, perhaps I saved the best for last in this review by analyzing the actual coupling of Nomoto and Kasuga together (but listen, okay, for me, the food ranks really high, REALLY HIGH).

Off the bat, the show doesn’t show any heat between these two. They don’t actually get together in the traditional sense -- no conversation about dating, no physicality, nothing. They just spend time together and talk and eat and cook. The manga itself only has three volumes in Japan, and I’m not even sure that they HAVE gotten together yet in the manga at present. I BELIEVE, by following Twitter and IG, that something MAY be brewing with them holding hands, but I’m honestly not sure yet. But back to the dorama:

Nomoto’s journey in this show is that she comes to realize that she is a lesbian, in love with Kasuga. In this case, her journey is similar to that of Ida in Kieta Hatsukoi, who begins to date Aoki, but doesn’t know what love feels like, because Ida has never dated before. He doesn’t know what it feels like, admits it, and wants to explore it.

So, Nomoto has never dated before. She’s talking about Kasuga to a co-worker, without revealing that Kasuga is a woman. The co-worker (HELLO, MORITA MISATO, LOVE YOU AND YOUR RISKY WORK) knocks Nomoto on the head with the obvious, which leaves Nomoto stunned:

And Nomoto goes into reflection mode, thinking about her childhood and teenagehood, when her friends ask her who she likes and who she’s dating.

(But, before that happens, a quick note on colors, inspired by @respectthepetty, the best colors analyzer -- while Nomoto is in the dark for some time in her revelations, Kasuga sees the light, and it’s made clear in the show that she likes Nomoto, which lights up her lonely and otherwise previously dark life.)

Much of Nomoto’s ultimate reflection on her past and her sexuality takes place in a literal fever dream, where she sees herself as a youngster, not relating to her friends (“everyone is dating now,” etc.). And then she sees Kasuga walking away.

(Where else did we see this? In Cherry Magic: The Movie, when Adachi wakes up from his accident in a fright -- starting his journey to acknowledging Kurosawa as his life partner, both internally and externally.)

In Nomoto’s case: she recognizes that she needs to grapple with her past, and move from it.

And then, Kasuga comes to Nomoto, food in hand, ready to care for Nomoto in her fever. As Nomoto eats alone after Kasuga departs, Nomoto finally acknowledges her feelings -- and is determined to be okay with them, no matter how society reacts to it, even saying it out loud.

What I LOVE about the character of Nomoto is that she’s not ever particularly weighed down by society. She thumbs her nose at it. She certainly hears her mother’s demands to “find a nice guy to settle down with.” She grew up with friends who expected her to date men. Yet, throughout the entire show, gender equity is the forefront conversation, and you can see some of the fire in this last screenshot of Nomoto. It’s the same fire you see in her in the first volume of the translated manga -- Nomoto just doesn’t stand for inequitable bullshit. Her own revelations about her own sexuality needed some time to simmer -- but society will not keep her back from being who she is. I LOVE the way she is written. (And Higa Manami played her BEAUTIFULLY.)

The show ends with Nomoto seeing the light, standing beside Kasuga.

Again: they don’t officially get together. Nomoto acknowledges that what she will do is stand beside Kasuga. Because I don’t know where the manga currently stands with them being an actual couple, I can’t blame NHK for not pushing this envelope, but I do wonder a touch if some viewers were disappointed by not seeing a romantic acknowledgement between the two of them.

For me, it’s no matter, as y’all know I love a good and quiet dorama. (My god, the biggest show of last season in Japan, Silent -- that didn’t even end with a kiss, I was a little shocked!).

TsukuTabe took the assumed roles of women and totally spun them on their heads -- a tremendously important exercise in a country that is not famous for its gender equity.

Tackling two major critiques of society -- gender equity and LGBTQ rights -- this show took on a LOT, it did not shy away from it, and I deeply loved and appreciated this dorama for it. There was so much going on. Hunger and starvation leading to companionship and fulfillment. It was a beautiful show, and watching it was a great way to end 2022.

Two quick footnotes. First: the actress who plays Kasuga, Nishino Emi -- y’all should follow her if you’re on IG. She is SO SO SO COOL. She’s a great singer, great fashion taste, everything! She’s badass.

Secondly, aaahhhh, I kinda got obsessed with haruko meshi! Really quick: haruko meshi is from Miyagi Prefecture, where Nomoto is from, and is like a salmon sashimi and ikura donburi, but instead, the salmon is cooked with the rice with seasonings, like takikomi gohan. Kinou Nani Tabeta has a GREAT depiction of takikomi or kayaku gohan -- you can add mirin, sake, and shoyu to your rice cooker to cook the rice in those seasonings with other ingredients, like veggies, mushrooms, or even fish. If you have kids, make takikomi gohan -- I have never met a child who didn’t like seasoned rice!

Anyway, anything with ikura floats my boat, so I think I’ll have to make haruko meshi soon (although maybe without a ton of ikura since it’s so damn expensive), but holy fuck, doesn’t it look so good?!? AAAAHHH, I LOVE FOOD DORAMAAAAASS!

Hello Hobbit Friends!

How it is already the end of August??

The beginning of September is usually when we (the mods) start planning, discussing, updating rules, pre-writing posts, creating banners, etc. A lot goes on behind the scenes for this event, but we sincerely love being able to facilitate it. And we adore seeing all the creativity you guys demonstrate year after year. This is an older fandom, yet we actually see a steadily-increasing number of participants, which is incredible!

The truth is, though, with so many people taking part in this event, we’ve seen a corresponding upswing in the amount of effort it takes to bring it to fruition. We have three mods, which theoretically means we can split the burden evenly, but we all work full-time and have busy lives. Moderating a gift exchange during such a hectic time of year means that we, like the participants, have to work around other people’s wonky schedules and changing plans. And the longer the event has gone on, the more we find ourselves spending the entire month of December sending out frantic emails to check on progress, freaking out about last-minute dropouts, and—invariably—scrambling to fill requests ourselves in the wee hours to make sure that every single person receives something.

Back when we had fewer of these to do, it wasn’t as much of a problem! But last year we had 63 signups and ended up needing to create about 10 last-minute gifts. We were able to find a couple of absolute angels to pinch-hit for us, but two of our mods were still churning out 6 full-color illustrations on Christmas Eve. We've tried various methods throughout the years to mitigate it, but we've come to realize that it's simply part of moderating an event like this. And it's starting to become unsustainable.

As much as we love putting on the exchange, we haven’t been able to be fully present with our loved ones during the holiday season since 2017. It’s rewarding to bring it all together every year, but the stress has begun to overshadow the joy. We’d like to step away and not only take time for ourselves, but maybe give someone else the opportunity to breathe new life into the event. So regrettably, unless we find someone who is interested in taking the reins, there will not be a Happy Hobbit Holiday 2022.

To all the people who have participated in the exchange in years past, we’re so grateful to you for your hand work, your passion, your creativity, your feedback, and your continued interest in this event! We hope that you’ll continue to share your talents for years to come, and we’ll be awaiting your beautiful future work with Kudos and keysmashes!

To anyone who has ever done a pinch-hit for us, you have been the backbone of every single HHH exchange we’ve done for the last five years. We literally could not have accomplished it without you. You’ve saved our sanity and our wrists in equal measure, and there aren’t enough words to convey our gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Midnights is the break up album

In the above interview with Zane Lowe Taylor talks about Happiness and how it is about ending a long term life changing relationship. Taylor said it was the last song for Evermore, and started relating to friendship. Toward the end she switches to speak in the first person. That was in December 2020, 1.5 years before Midnights. After that we saw Joe very little.

The concept of the album was a series of midnight thoughts throughout Taylor’s life, which many tracks are, however there is an element of viewing the downfall of this relationship through them. I think Taylor didn't want to make the announcement through a publicist but through her lyrics on Midnights.

Bejeweled is remembering when CH didn’t value her love, reflecting that she also also bored and under appreciated in her current relationship

Taylor stopped liking Joe's IG posts 11 May 2022, he didn’t attend her NYU doctorate ceremony on the 18th May 2022, midnights was released in October and the break up announced the following April after the Eras tour had started.

A relationship having ended would not have been announced in real time ahead of a world tour and new album. Us knowing is a secondary challenge to actually going through the break up. What I wonder about is why was Invisible String ever on the setlist, was it there to be removed when it went public?

15 March - Grammy's Joe had never come & it was COVID limited, but he won a Grammy for *Album of the year* & I'd say she has the pull for a ticket for a producer of it

April - Folklore credits update to add Joe as producer on 6 songs, including 3 William Bowery wrote, Grammy eligible. No credits for midnights and evermore.

12 May - Taylor was honored with a Global Icon award but Joe left to film in Belfast the week before. Harry also at Brits and won.

21 August - Joe actually seen with Taylor

14 September - Taylor seen in ireland, seen at conversations with friends cast party

14 November - Blake, Ryan, Sophie & Selena join Taylor at the SNL All to Well launch party. Joe A was filming in Panama.

2022

27 March - They went to the Vanity Fair Oscars pre-party, but Taylor skipped the 2022 Grammy's, Brit Awards and Oscars. It's interesting that the only photos of Taylor are of getting out of the car with Joe squinting, they bypassed the press line.

11 May Taylor stopped liking Joes IG posts

15 May conversation with friends airs, Joe says his costars real name, then F*** (character name) in a sex scene in the Final Cut of episode 3 at 11:55 and 12:10.

18 May - Taylor receives an honorary doctorate from NYU, while not a party it is a massive deal. In her speech she smiled at a particular part of the audience when she referenced friends and family, but Joe was at a Rising Hollywood party in LA.

19 May - Joe on Kelly Clarkson talking about William Bowery

31 August - VMAs afterparty - Joe & Taylor's unglamourous run to a car. VMAs have been important to Taylor since 2009. She was on the cusp of winning the most VMAs ever, announced Midnights and All to Well won. I wonder if Midnights was already done though.

20 October - Midnights pap walk where Joe uses a coffee table book to shield his hand from being held.

Miraculous A La Mode FAQ

welcome to the FAQ! this one is a long one; we wanted to give you as much information as possible! at the current moment, there are three mods taking care of everything here.

what is miraculous a la mode? miraculous a la mode is an event where the most important rule is the fic you’ll be posting with us cannot include the tag Adrien/Marinette, also known as the Lovesquare (or commonly abbreviated to LS). this includes adri(e)nette/marichat/ladrien/ladynoir. this also includes any kwami swaps or reverse crushes.

we want to give pairings (such as marigami, DJWIFI, julerose, marcnath, alyanette) that aren't written about as much a chance to be in the main spotlight for a fandom-wide event!

is this a salt event?

this is not a salt event! this is an event simply catering to lesser-known and lesser-used relationship tags, giving them a chance to shine. we celebrate all aspects of the show here, but for this event specifically we want to focus on all the other ships. rare-pairs, crackships, polyships of all kind are welcome here, too!

can the polyship include both Adrien and Marinette?

for this event we’re going to have to say no, as it would still be adding to the Adrien/Marinette tag on ao3.

what’s a rare pair? what is a crack ship?

a rare pair is a ship that does not have a lot of fandom coverage, be it in fic or fanart form. statistically, these are ships that make up for less than 10% of Miraculous tagged ao3 fics. at the 10% threshold, pairing tags become common. as of Oct. 4, 2022 there are 58,267 miraculous ladybug fics, so the 10% threshold would be 5,826 fics. only two ships meet this criteria:

the lovesquare and djwifi. that being said: djwifi is still being allowed, as it is barely a thousand off from being a rarepair, and is only as common as it is because it’s a background pairing. if you exclude all lovesquare fics, djwifi drops down to less than 5% of Miraculous fics.

examples of other rare pairs would include Felix/Luka (feluka), Chloe/Kagami (chloegami), or Marc/Adrien (adrimarc).

a crack ship is a ship that is wildly impractical and unexpected, yet equally entertaining and interesting. these are ships that allow fic writers and artists to have fun with tropes. examples of crack ships would include Amelie/Anarka, Jagged/Gabriel, or Juleka/Felix.

i would like to participate! what are my options for participation?

we will have four different applications available:

the mod form will be the first available and will close before we open the writer applications

the writer form will open second, and will be available after mods have been selected. our calendar dates the writer's form opening on december 1st 2022, and will close january 7th 2023.

the beta form will open third, and will be available after writers have started writing. we will be updating this question in the future to represent the actual dates of the applications.

the artist form will open last, and will be available very much after writers have been accepted. our calendar dates the artist's form opening on march 5th 2023, and will close april 8th 2023.

i want to participate as a mod! what type of mods are you looking for?

we are looking for mods who are willing and able to moderate and oversee the following aspects of the event:

graphics mod that will help make this event come to life! our current artist is a snake with a paintbrush, and while we love him dearly, we’d love someone more capable.

behind-the-scenes administrative on Discord to keep the event going

those with Discord modding experience are preferable, but not necessary.

i want to participate as a writer! what will i need?

you will need an account on discord (you must be 13 or older to create one) so that you can join the server and an ao3 account in order to participate! both of these are free. you will be allowed to post your work on tumblr at posting time as well.

i want to participate as an artist! what do i need?

you will need a discord account in order to join the server, as well as some sort of online posting space such as twitter, instagram or deviantart so you can post your work online!

what is a beta-reader?

for our purposes, a beta-reader is a person who reads the fic before it’s published in order to catch spelling/grammar mistakes, and potentially suggest improvements. there are many different types of beta-readers, and many artists have different preferences on how much help they want to receive.

i want to beta some of these fics that have caught my eye! what do i need?

you will need a discord account in order to contact and communicate with your writer, and some means of sharing the fic between the writer and beta reader. this could be using Google Docs as a means of collaborating, or sharing a Word file back and forth. the specifics of how a writer wants their work to be beta’d will vary from writer to writer, so it’s advised that beta readers are flexible and able to accommodate to the needs of their writer. a strong constitution against typos is also recommended.

i’m a writer; is a beta reader required to participate?

no! sometimes being forced to have another person look over your work can stress a writer out to the point that their creativity is hindered or slowed. having a fic beta’d is a recommendation, but not required for posting.

i’m a writer; can i bring my own beta?

yes! they are allowed to join the server though it’s not a requirement. if you need any help such as creating a thread within the server for you to use feel free to ask one of the mods.

can i sign up as a writer and then do art for another fic i like?

yes! please read the requirements for participating as an artist further down on the FAQ.

can i sign up as a writer and then do art for my own fic?

yes!

can i sign up as a writer and beta someone else’s fic?

yes! more information about beta-reading will be within the server after everyone has accepted the invites.

how many fics can i sign up with?

you can write a maximum of three. each fic you submit an idea with will get an ID that we will ask you to keep track of so when it is time to advertise your fic for an artist to potentially match with you, we’ll know which fic they’re referring to.

will i get emails about the event?

yes! you will be getting an email from [email protected] indicating whether or not you’ve been accepted into the event. please add us to your address book so we don't go into spam.

are multi-chapter fics allowed?

absolutely! the more words the merrier!

is there a minimum word count?

the minimum word count for this event is 5,000 words.

what if i end up writing a fic that doesn’t meet the minimum?

no hard feelings! it’ll still be included in our collection. the goal is just to write non-LS fics, the minimum word count is there to give you a goal to aim for.

what if i don’t finish my fic 100% by the day it’s time to start posting but i want to keep writing it after the fact?

that is fine, you’ll still be included in our collection.

can i collaborate with a friend for this event?

sure! multiple writers can work on a fic together. we will ask on our forms just to keep track of who is working on which fics. have decided on an artist-writer pairing, too? awesome! since the writer application will be first to come out, we'll have a spot in the form for you to write the artist's name down.

is this event nsfw friendly?

absolutely! but you must be 18+ in order to write nsfw for this event. if you are underage and write an NSFW fic in an attempt to add it into our event, you will be banned. there are no exceptions.

i’ve never written a non LS fic before. am i still allowed in? even though i don’t have any references?

absolutely!

what type of fic isn’t allowed?

fics that are homophobic, transphobic, sexist and racist are not allowed. fics that talk about these topics are allowed, but will have to be tagged appropriately on our forms in order to not trigger any mods handling your fics. content warnings for any of the above must be used on your fics, or serious penalties can arise.

translated fics of existing works are not allowed.

lovesquare content (adri(e)nette/marichat/ladrien/ladynoir) is not allowed, even as a background pairing.

crossovers are not allowed. this is a miraculous ladybug event only, which means that the popular ship maribat will be disqualified from the event.

although we're not considered a salt event, salt (in moderation) is allowed. please note that extremely salty fics will need to be tagged.

as for fics with suggestive content, we ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you believe fits your work, so if you word contains NSFW or violence, we ask that you tag for it on ao3 as well as on your forms so that we do not potentially trigger any mods handling your fics.

what if LS is at the beginning before one of the two (or both) move onto different ships?

that would still be tagged on ao3 as marinette/adrien, even if it’s not the endgame ship, which is not our goal for this event. that would not be allowed in. this event is to not add any marinette/adrien content to ao3 and end up boosting the numbers.

is gen (non romantic ship) allowed?

absolutely! friendship stories and queer platonic relationships are just as valid as romantic ones!

can i have a miraculous ladybug oc paired up with a canon character as my ship?

yes!

what are ’check-ins’?

check-ins are your way of communicating with mods about your fic(s) progress. for each monthly check-in, we will link a google form where we will ask for your fic’s ID as well as the progress of this fic. questions such as ’have you hit significant progress into completing this fic’ and ’would you like to put a callout for a beta-reader’ will be on the form.

what are fic IDs used for?

organizational purposes, we require fics to have IDs attached in order for the mods to find them easily on the spreadsheet. when we post artist calls, we will be using your ID for the fic in order to entice an artist and/or a beta-reader to potentially work with you— they will show up into the discord with the ID ready and available for us to properly pair you both. that way, you’re still anonymous to the public while you work on your fic, but still get to advertise that this story is potentially on its way.

how much progress should i be aiming for whenever there’s a check-in?

check-ins will be once each month after writers join. each check-in, we ask that you have 20-25% of your fic done.

what are snippets?

snippets are pieces of your story that you’re willing to share on tumblr in order to gain the attention of an artist. when it comes time to share snippets on our blog, we will have more information on how we’d want it to be formatted.

what are the requirements for the snippets?

standard procedure is a snippet being about 2,000 words long, with a summary at the top as if it were AO3, and relevant tags that you need the artist to know about before potentially selecting your fic to work with. we will have more information on this once it’s time for us to ask for snippets for the blog.

i’ve finished! where do i post my fic/art?

for fics, we ask to post on ao3 since that is our initial goal. we will have a collections available for works completed with our event. we will also reblog it if you post on tumblr, too! for art, wherever you see fit! whether you post it on tumblr, instagram, deviantart, we’d love to see it! we’ll reblog your art onto our blog if you post it onto tumblr.

i don’t have an AO3 account! can i still join?

you’ll have to make one in order to join our event. if you don’t currently have an AO3 account but would like one, you can contact the mods for an invitation code to see if they have any available. you can also add yourself to the AO3 Invites Request queue. it’s recommended you make that account long before you’re ready to start posting.

what does posting look like? do we have to post the whole thing on the day we choose, even if it’s multiple chapters?

if your work is multichapter, you will not be uploading the whole fic on the same day! we will have a schedule laid out for you to be able to post at minimum once a week until you finished.

how do i know when to post?

you will be provided a “calendar” form when posting date starts to get closer. this will be the day you will post the first chapter of your fic. as long as you maintain a one chapter per week, you are free to post whenever.

is there a minimum/maximum requirement for my art?

if you pick a fic that is less than 20k words, you will only need to draw one artwork. however, should the fic be longer, we ask that you draw two arts accompanying the fic.

your art piece must be fully completed, with lineart, color, and including a background (as long as it isn't a solid background). if you’ve chosen to work with an NSFW fic, you are not required to draw NSFW.

i’m an artist and i love a fic posted onto the tumblr! how do i claim a fic?

in april, our blog will be circulating anonymous summaries and snippets of stories looking for an artist to draw for it. when you see a post of a story that you find interesting and would like to stake a claim to it, there will be an artist form available for you to fill out. please have all the fic IDs of all the fics you’d like to potentially draw for ready for your form for us to start matching you.

please only claim an NSFW fic if you’re older than 18. if we find out that you’ve lied about your age, you’ll be banned. no exceptions.

how many fics can i claim?

you can claim as many as you would be willing to work with. ideally, if you are capable of drawing what is expected of you, there is a potential of you being selected to draw art for up to three fics.

as a writer, what if i don’t like one of my fics i proposed? can i drop it?

you will be able to switch out any of your proposed fic with another idea until april, where we will be asking for artists to pick from the selected summaries we’ll be posting on the blog. if you’ve submitted more than one idea, you’re allowed to drop any of them, as long as you still keep one fic, so you can be active in the event.

can i drop out? how do i get banned?

you’re always allowed to drop out. the only way to get banned is if you don’t communicate with any mods of you wanting to drop out. please, just notify us that you wish to leave the event there is no penalty. please keep in mind that while dropping out when you have an artist or a writer working with you on your event piece could be considered rude, we understand if you have an emergency, and you won’t be held hostage to stay.
