Which characters do you think you're going to leave out/downsize their role in your rewrite?

Honestly, I'm not finalizing things for now but looking back on it, it does seem like almost EVERY character NEEDS an increase of focus or at least more active participation in the plot. I will end up omitting many of the new characters because there's far too many Amulet characters that it's bloated the FUCK outta the series, and instead try to prioritize those most crucial to the plot. Meanwhile, I would maybe try to change the nature of their roles/their story journey:

Main Characters: Emily, Trellis, Navin (in that order)

Great Impact on the plot: Leon, Vigo, Max (he won't die in this version), Karen (up in the air), Luger (he'd last longer and stay villain til the end), Riva

Minimal focus, Great Impact: Miskit (working on him), Virgil (he's not related to Trellis, but an advisor to EK), The Human Resistance (maybe?), the Elven Resistance (definitely)

Crucial character to the flashbacks to why everything is shit: Silas (he's not a good guy here, I'd argue he never really was), EK, Cielis... Vigo.... Roy. Virgil.

Increased minor character focus: Daniel (Vigo's son)

Increased villain focus: Elf Army, Cielis

Still important, but we really gotta reduce their appearances: Alyson, David Hayes, General Pil, Gabilan

The character I'd reduce the role of most is.... the Voice. Because I can't fucking stand him, removes too many chances for the characters to choose for themselves, be it fuck ups or triumphs, and an overall tumor on the plot. In fact, there would be no fucking possession or mind control or what have you in this Rewrite, because we love character agency in this house. Instead, the Voice as a character would be merged with the Elf King to solve character focus and pacing issues. The EK isn't the main source of all problems, but he is the most obvious, widespread, and the biggest priority to be taken down right now.

EVENT TIMELINE

IC Timeline: Canonically, the snowstorm will suddenly pass through New York on Tuesday, February 1st.

OOC Timeline: Members will have from February 1st through February 8th to post their initial starters around the snowstorm. After 2/8, no new starters can be posted, but writers are free to continue their event thread until it's conclusion. An announcement will be made on both days when the event has started and ended.

EVENT DETAILS

Now that the pairings are announced, members are encouraged to reach out to the mun of their paired partner to plan out what will occur between the characters. Members are free to take liberties with the snowstorm backdrop to create whatever situational atmosphere they'd like - they can be as comedic, lowkey, absurd, mundane, adrenaline-seeking, or subtle as you'd like! If you're interested in more concrete details prior to the weather report on Tuesday, the 2014 Gulf Coast Winter Storm serves as a reference point!

Pairing Threads:

The primary reason behind the event is to encourage character interaction between characters who may not have engaged with each other before. As such, character threads are highly encouraged between the assigned pairing. Members can choose if they'd prefer to have their threads set during the action of the snowstorm (ex. thread of two character chatting while stuck in an ATM vestibule together until the power comes back on) or after the snowstorm (ex. first thread are characters running into each other two days after being stuck together in the ATM vestibule during the snowstorm).

Threads have no set length, neither in writing nor in IC time. The encounter between characters can be as brief as twenty minutes or as long as an overnighter, while threads can be full on multi-paras or simple gif conversations.

Additional Threads:

Members are also free to take advantage of the setting to engage in other snowstorm related threads during this time period, and are not limited to only engaging with their assigned partner. Other plotted threads and open starters are welcome! (ex. after being freed from the ATM vestibule, your character briefly seeks warmth at a nearby grocery store with other patrons, where an open starter may be set - or they return home to their roommate for a closed starter!)

Additionally, members are free to continue non-event threads!

CBS‘ NCIS with its Season 21 premiere on Monday night, yes, threatened to send Special Agent Nick Torres to prison for murder. But it also, with its last moments, planted the seed for what promises to be one of the long-running drama’s most emotional storylines.

On the Torres front: When last we tuned in, Nick following an undercover op in prison was laying in wait inside the home of Maurice Riva, the man who decades prior terrorized his mother and family. Season 21 opened with the reveal that Riva had been found killed, and the voicemail that Nick had left for his sister Lucia — saying that he had found Riva — was quite the semi-smoking gun.

Upon being arrested, at NCIS, for Riva’s murder, Torres proceeded to not refute the charge. Instead, he thought he was protecting Lucia, who had left him a vague voice message about getting justice. (Note to the Torres family: Next time, text! And with details!) But neither Lucia nor Nick had offed Riva. Nope, it had been Nick’s prison pal Reymundo De Leon’s mom aka Riva’s latest victim. She killed Riva, then made off with his offshore money stash — but was nice enough to leave behind a full confession, to absolve Torres et al.

Then….

At episode’s end, Torres turned in his badge and gun, having brutally assaulted Riva and all, but Parker waved off the gesture, instead telling his agent, “One day at a time, Nick.” Parker’s cell then chirped, and after answering, he told the caller, Jimmy, “Whoa, whoa, slow down….” After listening a bit more, Parker’s face turned sullen, which McGee, Torres and Knight instantly clocked.

“What’s going on…? What is it?” asked McGee. And though Parker said nothing before the episode cut to black-and-white, TVLine can confirm that he had just received the incredibly sad news — that NCIS medical examiner-turned-historian Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, who since Day 1 had been played by the late David McCallum, has passed away.

That sets the stage for next week’s full-on Ducky/David McCallum tribute episode, titled “The Stories We Leave Behind” and co-written by longtime NCIS cast member Brian Dietzen with EP Scott Williams.

In that episode, as NCIS mourns Ducky, the agents find some comfort in working on one of his unfinished cases involving a woman whose father was dishonorably discharged from the Marines.

Speaking with TVLine about crafting the very special Feb. 19 episode, Dietzen said, “Scott and I talked about it and decided we still wanted it to be an NCIS show — it wasn’t going to be entirely a clip show of ‘Ducky’s Greatest Hits’ — and we should come up with a case that’s thematically linked in some way to losing a valued and loved team member. So we came up with this concept of how, when we’re done with with life, the stories that we leave behind are what’s important. What’s important is what’s left to our loved ones.”

SEBASTIAN RIVA

Sebastian Riva is the younger of two sons of Leone Riva. He is almost four years younger than Mau, so in 1927 Sebastian is 18.

(Little reminder: Leone Riva is the best friend of Augusto Venza since their childhood, and it was him who invited the Venza family to move to New York from Turin. I mentioned him in Augusto’s bio here.)

Unlike his older brother Paolo, Seb is as far away as possible from his father's illegal business and the underworld in general. In a way, Sebastian and Maura are similar; both are driven by natural curiosity, but this trait manifested itself in both of them in different ways. Seb is the kind of child who will destroy take apart all the devices in the house to see how they work, and who will fidget in his chair, thinking how these complicated things can be improved. He's especially attracted to automobiles. If he didn't have to eat and sleep, he probably wouldn't leave the garage. And to capture all his discoveries he had a little hobby in the form of drawing.

Fun fact: Seb inherited the entrepreneurial drive of his ancestors and in his youth was already well off with money, drawing erotic pictures almost to the whole neighborhood. 😂 For this he got a few hits with a broom from Mau, but Seb managed to literally buy her silence with 10% of his profits. 🤣

In 1927, Sebastian entered university and began studying engineering. There he continued to draw for money, but this time not only naked bodies, but mostly course works on drafting for other students. Subsequently, he successfully got a job at an automobile factory and married a racer, for whom he, among other engineers, improved the racing bolide. He was head over heels in love with this girl and was so zealous to meet her that he almost threw himself under her wheels. As we already know, in the end he got her favor, and has never regretted it for all the long years of his life.

I think the guy hit the lifetime jackpot. Let's be happy for him. x))

Okay, so I first started reading Amulet in 3rd grade and it made a huge impression on me. It's an old comfort series that holds a special place in my heart. I'm fully aware that the quality has recently taken a nosedive (I felt pretty good about the books up until Supernova -- that was garbage) but I still wanted to finally finish the series. I've heard the horror stories, my expectations are low, but I think I've emotionally distanced myself enough that I can handle whatever Kazu has to throw at me.

So I'm reading Waverider, and I'm jotting down my initial thoughts and reactions! And without further ado, here they are:

Surprise, surprise! Mr. Elf actually LOVES the shadow, he's totally brainwashed, what a plot twist (Or is it? Entirely possible that this has already been hinted/revealed and I just forgot). Anyway idk something about this seems a little flat, a little unnatural. The dialogue isn't exciting enough to support the scene. or something.

"I can power the ship" Ha! That is SUCH a raw line and it caught me by surprise. This is good Emily characterization, totally badass and totally nonchalant about it. First part of the novel I have strong feelings about

Woah Galiban

Hmm okay

So I actually think this is... huh. Mixed feelings. I actually feel like this makes sense for Galiban; he's a fanatic and motivated by convictions so strong that he can use them to justify almost any decision, even if it would otherwise be out of character. If that makes sense?

But Trellis. Sweetheart. WHAT are you doing. Okay I know you don't like the throne, and I know you have maybe some respect for Galiban, but WHY do you just roll over like that? NO resistance, NO critical thinking, and the fate of your people at stake? Kazu WHAT are you DOING

Wait I still kinda thought they were gonna dethrone him. Is Galiban king now? Why is that a good idea? Just because I understand his motivations doesn’t mean I think he’d be GOOD at the JOB. and what about Trellis?

I actually liked the dream sequence. Idk, just felt right, felt natural. Harkened back to other dream sequences but Emily’s not falling for it this time and she’s not angry, she’s not relying on her rage anymore, and she’s not afraid either, she’s just frustrated.

Yes, the soldiers are just kids. Your brother is a child soldier, Emily. YOU are a child soldier. Your friends are child soldiers. You’ve been literally fine with it this whole series, why is it only now a problem?

“Deagle Swift” wtf why are we introducing new characters in the friggin LAST BOOK

“This is my gift to you” “Find your center, find balance” “come back to us” Too poetic. I get that Emily is no longer an angry angsty ‘it’s not a phase mom’ emo teen on the inside anymore, but can we keep a little of her grouchiness? Just a tad? As a treat?

So overall, pretty much what I expected. I started reading with the expectation that it would be total garbage, but there were a few aspects of the story that I actually liked, so there’s that. It’s incredibly obvious that the ending was rushed. And I don’t like a lot of things about this. But I think I’m glad I read it.

I have finally finished Waverider and as I promised I’m , as the same as the other amulet book ratings, I am going to rate this one. And as always, this has spoilers so if you haven’t read it and want to read it, skip it. Also this just my opinion

Book 9:

And my rating is a 3/10. Same as the 8th book for many, many reasons.

This book isn’t as bad as Supernova, but it has as many problems as Supernova.

First off, Trellis, Riva, and Vigo’s storyline was a lie. They literally clear up the false king storyline so fast it gave me whiplash. Literally in the back of the book it says the main focus for the B storyline is going to the elf kingdom and that storyline just ends so fucking quickly. Also how the hell is Gablian alive?! He is not a stonekeepers and blew up at the bottom of the ocean! How did he survive?! Also, you’re telling me Trellis gave up being king that easily?!What?! One of the only things I liked about book 6 is the scene where Trellis tells his people that the false king, Max, was dead just like the elf king was and if they want to save their country and stay alive is to follow him, as the true and rightful king. Then fucking Waverider comes and I am just speechless.

And then they go to rebuild Ceileis(I can’t spell) and tell me if this is only me but, I don’t care for these new characters. Wes, Reieina, Lira, etc. I don’t. I miss the simplicity of Amulet and how none of the characters felt underutilized. Then Kazu Kibuishi decided to shove them in the closet and bring in characters I dont care for. Navin, Alyson, Leon, and Karen were there for only a small percent of the book and even that felt flat.

Also something that pisses me off is how Vigo died. The entire purpose of that little squad was they could break free and not lose control to the shadows. And yet, he loses control to the damn voice? Not to mention, that ceremony didn’t need to happen! They were just paying respects and he loses control so fucking easy! This was just an excuse to kill off Vigo and I hate it!!

Also fucking old Emily came back. I don’t know how but she was here and I’m so confused.

Do you wanna know what I’m confused about?! Everything with Ikol. Like I am so confused, is he dead or is he still there? What was that confrontation between him and Emily?! Like what was happening? It was just so much without any explain for what happened?!

Also when did Emily get so damn strong? Nothing to her seems like a struggle. She takes down those giant stone—thingys(forgot what they are called) So easily. This might just be me but characters who don’t use to have as much power before and suddenly becomes op as hell.

Overall, this book has so many problems. Maybe I’ll find more later or maybe I’ll burn the book in a dumpster. Verdict: this was not worth waiting years for it come out.

Amulet RE-read: book 7

It’s interesting how Emily gets ready for the day.

If you take a look at page 12 panel 3, the book that Trellis is reading is called memory walk.

Max must have trusted Emily with the location of Algos island.

A bit of foreshadowing from Cogsley.

I don’t know why Cogsley didn’t remember that Enzo and Rico were not on the ship.

I wonder how the submarine docks?

General Pil should have known that Navin was going to do that.

Pil should have expected that Riva would send people to find them.

I think that Ikol is the one bringing Emily to the camp.

I think that the war was supposed to start later but because the Cielis guard found the ship the war was started early.

Gabilan is right that Ikol is choosing Stonekeepers for there weakness.

I believe that the ship will activate if Ikol would win.

Ikol must have put the new information in the cube.

Ikol did not want young Trellis from knowing that truth.

Ikol probably is the one making the computer not find Emily and Trellis.

They look like chess pieces because that’s how Ikol sees them.

If you take a look at page 136 panel 4 you will see chess pieces on the gas pump mirror.

If you remember the first post you will know that the car’s engine die but the barrier was not damaged.

Emily’s Inerself knows something is not right.

I wonder how Earth was discovered by the space program.

Makes sense that the elf king tried to dismantle the space program since he is being control by an alien force.

Riva must have told the Cielis about the resistance bace in space so that Karen, Misikit and Leon can go there to help.
