Art study but make it Bridgewater✨
Suddenly I’ve been wanting to do an art study so my brain decided that the best thing to do while making an art study was to draw Jeremy Bradshaw so here you go 🫶 (It’s 4am now so yeah it was such an impulsive decision jdjdjdjd)
As always he has his little ace badge (Jeremy being ace soothes my heart so much) and the little Bridgewater hiking club badge (which is the design of the official merch! Crying in not have been able to buy it when it was available so I love to put it everywhere) and I did grey hair around Jeremy’s temple because I thought that it was a neat addition to his physical appearance!
The art study was around the art of the American artist J. C. Leyendecker, and as a lot of people I really love his art style! It’s my first serious art study so I tried to look at a lot of his characters and see how he was functioning in terms of shading and colours (I think it made me bolder in terms colour for this piece so that worked super well), the part I struggled the most was the hair but for a first try I won’t complain!!
Tumblr media
This Leyendecker piece was the main model/inspo for the fanart and then I adapted it to make Jeremy!
And I know this is the third Bridgewater drawing I post today JDVDJDJD the brainrot is real what can I say /lh /j

what were your biggest influences on your art/art style?
obviously there have been tens if not hundreds or artists whose art ive been obsessed with for a period of time, but these are the ones i've constantly come back to over the years (or the ones i could think of)
Tumblr media
j.c. leyendecker jamie hewlett anna vladimirova-lavrova hergé (tintin) momopatchi anatola howard richard savoie peanuts (mainly the tv specials) tove jansson diadhanach mabel ye eli spencer jadenvargen morchlav ruprecht von kaufmann and klaus (2019) cant forget klaus (2019) as for non-visual influences i think declan mckenna has been the biggest muscial inspiration for my art

the problem with creating a DnD character who's very good at keeping secrets is that i've had a lot of fun artfully not-really-lying to my party but i am also DYING bc i want to TALK ABOUT HIM and must HOLD MY TONGUE bc too many members of said party are on tumblr (hi guys, you remain perfect)
things that can be shared:
washed-up Leyendecker dandy
started the campaign seeming like the fancy mom friend who's going to keep everyone clean and cheerful in this haunted fucking house
has, over the past few sessions -- and the ghosts and the vampires and the bones and the steady realization that he has maybe possibly inherited some curse magic that has a lot of emotional baggage attached (ノ ᐕ )ノ︵ ┻━┻ -- gradually started to reveal that he is less "a nice man" than he is "an occasionally nice nihilist crackpot who is brightly advocating for king-killing"
the only character who can use thieves' tools. negative dex.
(friend playing the rogue in another campaign WAILED when i explained this; listen, listen, it's funny, it's funny)
took a level in cleric; immediately threatened god ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
rolled a nat 1 ᕕ( ⌓̈ )ᕗ
has been throwing gold at all the party's expenses with what is either "too gay to math" frivolity or, uh, more of that nihilism probably ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
accidentally on purpose telepathically pissed off the new NPC -- but like, as a persuasion check to make clear they were actually all on the same king-killing side
was ready to be a colossal bitch at the increasingly reckless warlock until she proved to be, in fact, secretly very sad! uh oh! shit! oh no! he apologized to her out of nowhere instead.
i love him. he is in his 40s and too arthritic for this.

Took a break from work art to indulge the massive Torchwood nostalgia kick I'm on right now and draw myself a self-indulgent Jack in the Leyendecker-esque style I've used a few times before.
I love this guy dearly, great big irrepressible, unkillable queer space disaster that he is, truly one of the Characters of All Time, and it's a crime and a travesty that it's been nearly five years since I last drew him.
(Drawn with alcohol markers, coloured pencil and a little bit of coloured fineliner.)

"but their eyes synchronize with a secret rhythm ...which is a way one could say that i love you for psychological reasons"
an attempt at down then left (by @the-casbah-way) octavius! love this grumpy guy so bad.
(ref used is a leyendecker illustration and lyrics above are from i love you for psychological reasons by tmbg. all three things in this post respectively very queer)

Hi! I absolutely love your art, especially the Snape pieces! I was wondering if you use reference photos for your work or not. I’m an artist as well but I struggle without a reference 😭 I want to get into doing more snape fanart but I feel very limited with needing reference photos! Any tips?
Heya! Thank you! Oh good heavens YES! Don't EVER feel less cause you use references. Professionals, yes, Disney artists, the big guys like Leyendecker used references for their work. I hope no one told you that using a ref photo makes you a poor artist. If so they are DEAD WRONG. No. You can use as many references as you want. I use references for color, mood, pose, and sometimes expressions. After experimenting with using Alan as a base I now use my own art for reference to keep my Snape in a consistent style. There is nothing wrong btw in drawing over a picture of Alan to get a feel for his face and create something of your own depiction of the character. I find myself focusing on his nose(of course), how sharp his cheekbones are, and his jawline. I always make his lips thin and I exaggerate his jowls. My flavor of Snape is scruffy and unkempt, and I sometimes even sneak in acne or chapped lips. USE REFERENCE. IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A LESSER ARTIST. My professors drilled this into my head.

i love you guys and ur boops so I wanna share an art resource that influenced me a lot!
J.C. Leyendecker is obviously one of my biggest artistic inspirations, and I am lucky enough to live near the biggest collection of his work in the world!!
He sent an aspiring artist a letter detailing his process back in the day, detailing his whole process and medium. It’s really neat and can be translated into digital mediums too! It helped me a lot so I wanted to share with yall❤️
The letter
