The cool breeze brushed across your cheek, prompting a shiver as you shifted beneath your duvet. A sudden thud from the open window made you jump, and you sat up in bed. Squinting in the dark, you scanned the room and, reaching over, switched on the desk lamp for a better look.
The sudden brightness caused you to turn away until your eyes adjusted. When they did, you noticed a hunched figure—someone familiar.
Jason.
Quickly climbing out of bed, you rushed over to him. You observed him holding his bicep tightly as crimson leaked through his fingers.
"Jason..." He looked up at you through his hair, maintaining a playful smirk despite the pain. How could he smile at a time like this?
Despite his smirk, you regard him with a grim expression. His late-night entries through your window were becoming a routine. Helping him up from the floor, you both headed to the bathroom. Seating him on the toilet, you searched the medicine cabinet for your first-aid kit. Once found, you settled at the edge of the tub, ready to tend to his wound.
He lifted his shirt, allowing you to examine the not-so-deep but bleeding stab wound. Stitches were necessary.
As you started stitching, he caught his breath, grunting as the needle and thread moved through his wound.
"Sorry," you said.
"You say that every time," he remarked, and you looked at him with confusion.
"Because I don't like hurting you," you clarified.
Jason's eyes softened as he observed your focused efforts in patching him up. He felt remorse for waking you in the middle of the night. "I'm sorry for waking you up and everything... I know you have work in the morning."
You shook your head, nearly finished with the stitching. "It's okay. Without me, who knows where you'd be right now."
"Probably dead somewhere."
You chuckled, recognizing the truth in his words. Finally completing the last stitch, you cut and tied the thread. After washing your hands clean of the blood, you returned the first aid kit to its place. Placing a large band-aid on the sink for him to apply after his shower, you climbed back into bed. The sound of the running shower began to lull you to sleep until a pair of arms wrapped around you.
"Thank you for everything," Jason whispered, placing a small kiss on your neck.
"You're welcome."
As the warmth of Jason's arms enveloped you, you couldn't help but feel a mixture of exhaustion and relief. With a whispered goodnight, you both surrendered to the embrace of sleep, grateful for the unspoken understanding that bound you together.

Have a Bleach extended-winter-war time-travel-fix-it idea. In this AU Kaien's death happened before the whole turn-back-the-pendulum arc. (Yes, another Bleach time-travel AU, I know, shut up.)
As Ichigo and Kisuke are planning to go back to the past, Kisuke makes sure to emphasize to Ichigo that they have to protect Shiba Kaien. Apparently, it's of the utmost importance.
Ichigo doesn't know exactly how Kaien's continued well-being plays into saving the future. Kisuke never really explains it, or gives him a straight answer when he asks. But Ichigo knows that the Shiba Clan-Head carried a great deal of political power, and Ichigo also knows that Kaien -- according to Kukaku and Rukia -- was highly competent, incredibly noble, and fundamentally kind. It's not exactly unintuitive that a person like that could be important to bringing down Aizen.
So Ichigo listens, when Kisuke tells him to protect Shiba Kaien. He memorizes how Kaien died in the original timeline. He's attentive as Kisuke reiterates for the thousandth time that Aizen will keep trying to assassinate Kaien until he succeeds. He takes notes when Kisuke hypothesizes about what Aizen's various assassination attempts might look like -- poison during a meal, hired assassins at night, an ambush during a mission.
Ichigo ingrains the assignment into his core: protect Shiba Kaien, because if Kaien falls, the mission fails.
So when Kisuke slips a paralytic into Ichigo's tea and places Ichigo in the middle of the time-travel kido array and drains the entirety of his own spiritual energy to activate the array, a sacrifice that Ichigo never would have agreed to--
Well. The first thing Ichigo does when he arrives back in the past, numb and alone and only able to function by focusing on the duty that is his purpose -- is track down Shiba Kaien.
After all, if Ichigo is going to kill Aizen -- and he is, no matter what it takes -- he needs to keep Kaien alive.
Ichigo goes straight to the Shiba family grounds. In true Shiba fashion, they accept him immediately as family. They tend to his wounds and give him a meal and welcome him home. They let him get away with his weak excuses and explanations, and they defend his presence to the rest of Soul Society.
Kaien, in accordance with everything Ichigo has heard about the man, personally takes the newest addition to the family under his wing.
Ichigo's plans to deal with Aizen take shape around his need to keep an eye on Kaien.
Ichigo, instead of running as far and fast as he can from the Shiba clan, accepts the offer to live in the Shiba compound. He gets to know every clan member and retainer, subtly vetting for traitors. He sleeps in a room near Kaien's, allowing him to both guard against assassins at night and place warding runes around Kaien's door without having to worry about being caught somewhere he has no business being.
He joins the Court Guard in the 13th division instead of the 5th, because the only real way to protect Kaien on a mission is to be there with him. Ichigo knows that if there's an ambush, or if the mission details have been tampered with, he'll be more than enough fire power to get Kaien out of it. And it's easy to always get paired with Kaien; Kaien -- reliably taking every opportunity to hover around Ichigo that he's offered -- does most of the work, leveraging his status as lieutenant and Ichigo's combat ability to keep them together.
Ichigo finds himself frequently taking meals with Kaien and Kaien's friends. Kaien always invites Ichigo, and Ichigo accepts so he can subtly check the food for poison.
(Ichigo does not tell Kaien about Aizen. Ichigo is still unsure what Kaien's role is in the whole fight, and in the meantime, telling him about Aizen is a sure way to get him killed.)
Things heat up. Ichigo prevents both Miyako and Kaien's death, killing Metastacia before it can hurt anyone. Ichigo's shadow war against Aizen gets more intense. Ichigo sneaks out regularly to dismantle Aizen's illusions, destroy his labs, and attack his network of power, slowly weakening him.
Ichigo waits for the assassination attempts against Kaien, but they don't come, even several weeks after Metastacia fails. Ichigo takes it as a sign that he's got Aizen distracted.
Things continue for a while. Ichigo falls into a strange routine.
(And Ichigo tries not to break, seeing so many of his loved ones alive and unknowing of him. It is agony, to be around Shunsui, who is not his mentor, and the Visored, who are neither visored nor pack.
But the worst is when Captains Urahara and Shihouin catch on to his war against Aizen. He finds himself working with them as allies.
Allies. Mere allies, instead of --
Well. Not that it matters anymore.
All that matters is his duty.)
Time passes. Aizen weakens. There are no attempts on Kaien's life yet.
And then Aizen's web has unraveled enough for Ichigo to attack.
It's a long battle. It's a bloody battle. It's a very public battle.
Ichigo wins.
And it's only after it's all over -- after Aizen's crimes are revealed and Soul Society is at peace and the future is saved; after Ichigo finds himself still alive and adrift, with nothing left obligating him to keep going and everything telling him to give up; as Kaien refuses to leave Ichigo alone and escorts him to regular appointments with Unohana and forces him to talk about the truth of his past --
It's only then that it clicks.
Ichigo is whispering secrets about the future into Kaien's chest, Kaien's arms wrapped tight around him, when Ichigo confesses that he messed up, that he put the Shiba clan in unnecessary danger. Ichigo tells Kaien about his death in the original timeline. He talks about how Kisuke told him that in this timeline, Aizen would try and kill Kaien again if the first attempt failed. Ichigo promises desperately that he never would have sought out the family -- would have kept the danger far, far away from them -- if he hadn't thought he had to watch Kaien's movements so closely.
And Ichigo admits that Aizen never actually tried again. Ichigo admits that he and Kisuke miscalculated, that Ichigo brought danger to the Shiba's doorstep for nothing.
It happens like this:
First, the words leave his lips, "Kisuke" and "miscalculated" in the same sentence. Hearing himself say it lays bare the absurdity of its premise.
Then, Kaien draws away slightly, to look Ichigo in the eyes. Ichigo sees, plain on Kaien's face, a terrible, damning gratefulness.
Then, Kaien says -- fierce and defiant in the face of what could have been -- "I am so glad you came home."
And it clicks. At last, Kisuke's final manipulation reveals itself to Ichigo's eyes.
The emotions flash through him: the sting of betrayal; a flavor of love that bursts across his tastebuds as hurt; a familiar brand of exasperation that, a split second later, has his knees giving out under the weight of old pain made fresh.
Kaien catches Ichigo before he hits the ground and holds him as he shatters. And Ichigo can barely breathe through the knowledge that Kisuke would have been so smug to see them.
A sob rips itself from Ichigo's chest, and it's followed by another, and another.
Ichigo's older cousin holds him, in the home of their family, through it all.
_________
THE END except not really.
This must immediately be followed by a whole arc where Kaien, much to his own dismay, finds himself trying to hook Urahara up with his little cousin.
After all, Future-Urahara sent Ichigo to the Shiba clan. Future-Urahara tricked his little cousin into bypassing his own self-destructive tendencies to seek out family and love and support. Clearly, Urahara would actually be good for Ichigo.
And, you know, Ichigo clearly loves Younger-Urahara, judging by Ichigo's whole... well, everything, whenever the two interact.
(This whole matchmaking endeavor is made easier by the fact that 1) Kisuke is already infatuated, fascinated, and not a tiny-bit madly in love, and 2) Yoruichi is also, from the other end, trying to set Kisuke up with Ichigo.
This whole endeavor is made more difficult by the fact that 1) Ichigo is in denial that he loves this younger Kisuke since he never thought this younger Kisuke could also fall in love with him, 2) Kisuke is in denial that he loves Ichigo because that is a Shiba and he himself is a creepy low-born ex-assassin mad-scientist, and 3) neither Ichigo nor Kisuke know what it looks like when someone is interested in them.)
Poor Kaien. He succeeds eventually, but not before witnessing truly legendary social ineptitude.

I really like the idea that Ichigo has always done some strange stuff, even before any of them had any idea about soul society.
Chad, Orihime, and Uryu (as well as Tatsuki, Keigo and Mizuiro) very much take the approach of don't say a fucking thing, leave him alone to anyone who looks like they may say something about it.
Ichigo makes a strange noise? They've figured out which noises are good ones and which ones are bad ones.
He's a little colder, distant, and sometimes a little cruel? Give him a little bit and he'll be fine again.
He gets a little too bright eyed during fights? Licks blood off his lips and sometimes off a wound? His nails look a little sharp and his teeth a little meaner? All good. He'll beat the shit out of someone, pace around a bit and be fine again.
Eats an unbelievable amount of food and still stays on the lean side of skinny? It's a metabolism thing.
Runs a little colder? He's great to sit by in the hot summer!
Gets a little distracted, looks at things and listen to noises that aren't there? That's normal, he's been able to see weird stuff his whole life!
Even after they all gain the ability see ghosts and that's obviously not what Ichigo is doing, they just tell people he's listening to and seeing ghosts.
Everyone else is a little confused by that but it's clear they're not going to get a real answer and tbh they're not sure they want one.
It's also important that they don't call too much attention to it. Ichigo doesn't seem to realize he does some of those things.
Like when someone pointed out the blood thing and he spent 20 minutes gagging and throwing up, tongue still stained rusty from the blood.
Or when someone mentioned the noises and he doesn't speak for days, quiet and withdrawn. And even now he cuts the noises off, biting them back and swallowing them down.
Or when people called him cruel, a thug, someone who wants to see others hurt, because he got into fight. He didn't fight back the next few times he got jumped, letting the hits land and taking it because the fear that he was all those things people said was stronger than any pain.
All the times he kept his mouth shut because someone joked about wolf teeth.
Or when he ripped his nails down until they bled so they weren't sharp enough to hurt anyone on accident.
Or when he kept his eyes down so no one could say he wore colored contacts to go with his "dyed" hair.
Orihime being so upset after the cookies she had given to someone, who made fun of a noise Ichigo made, had ended up bad! Oh no, oh gosh, how terrible that they got food poisoning! She's so sorry about that but there's a gleam to her eyes that has everyone backing off.
Chad disappearing and coming back with busted knuckles that go unnoticed, Ichigo focused on keeping his fingers curled into his palms and his mouth firmly shut.
Uryu ripping into some of the people who started rumors about Ichigo, channeling every cold and cruel part of him until several people are crying and no one dares say Ichigo's name for awhile.
Tatsuki throwing punches and Keigo attempting too, Mizuiro making things happen that no one can directly link back to him but everyone knows it's him.
Ichigo doesn't ask for a lot, but he gives a lot. Too much.
So, they can give him this. They will give him this. Let him do his odd, little quirks and they'll deal with anyone who tries to say anything.
💀
Shinigami are strange, strange enough that Ichigo blends in with them well, even though he's still sometimes a little strange for a shinigami.
Chad, Orihime, and Uryu are pleased that Ichigo fits in so well with all these new people, especially as they get to know them more.
Renji and Ikkaku are animalistic with too sharp teeth and a wild air to them.
Kenpachi is a monster wearing human skin.
Rukia, and her brother, have moments of cruelty and distance.
Unohana is something old and dangerous.
Kisuke is... unsettling, raises the hair on the back of their necks a little bit but Ichigo likes him. And as unnerving as he is, he's been very helpful.
Yoruichi has a mean streak in her that is very much like a cat batting around a dying mouse.
The visored are even worse.
The humans don't meet them until Ichigo after has already firmly included them in his ever growing group of important people.
The visored are unsettling in a way similar to Kisuke, but heavier. Something about them makes the little animal part of their brains sit up and take notice, the hairs on the backs of their necks standing up and they have to fight the urge to run.
But the visored are strange in the same way Ichigo is strange.
And they'll gives some bonus points to Kisuke and his, because they've never so much as batted an eyelash at Ichigo's more bizarre quirks.
The visored show off too sharp teeth in proud smiles and angry snarls.
They make odd noises between themselves and understand them.
They force people to look them in the eyes, black and gold occasionally making an appearance.
They lick at their wounds absent-mindedly and on purpose.
They make no apologies for who they are or how uncomfortable they make anyone.
More than anything though, they let Ichigo do those things. There a fondness to all of them when Ichigo does something strange front of them. Something that's normal to them.
💀
Ichigo doesn't seem to realize that everyone is actually charmed by his little quirks.
He's saved most of them enough times that there isn't much he could do that would make them anything less then incredibly fond.
It's fun and interesting to see all the things Ichigo does when he's happy and comfortable.
He does a little head tilt, exposed throat move to certain people. The humans don't even think he notices it, it took them awhile to notice it.
He does it to most of the captains, excluding a few like Mayuri and Soi Fon. Particularly to Unohana, Kenpachi, Byakuya and Toshiro for the captains. He does it to Kisuke and the visored.
They notice it and they just roll with it. Kisuke and Shinji (and most of the visored to be completely honest) touch his neck and shoulders a lot.
Unohana makes the smallest nod to him and never acknowledges it again.
It took Ichigo a long time to be comfortable enough with them to touch as much as he wants to. After they saved Rukia and returned home, he was constantly touching them. Grabbing at hands, throwing arms around them, sitting close enough to touch, etc. He even includes Tatsuki, Keigo and Mizuiro in the new, open affection.
He's comfortable enough to be that way with a lot of people now.
Shinigami, and the visored, are actually a pretty tactile and intimate bunch. Living as long as they do and having such dangerous and traumatic lives, makes touch and comfort very important.
So it's not uncommon for Ichigo to disappear, finding someone to nap with or someone finding him. People are already drawn to Ichigo, getting to know him and all his quirks just makes them love him more.

hi rukia!!
I hope you're having a good day/night :) if it's not too much trouble I want to ask poseidon x goddess reader, how would he act if they had twin sons (just like poseidon) who don't let him spend time alone with the reader and they always want their mother's attention :) (with smut at the end if you want?) thanks in advance, and sorry if this makes you uncomfortable or something was not my intention :) ps: your writing is amazing you are definitely one of my writers favorites :) take care of yourself.
I ran with this 🏃🏼‍♀️
Warnings: fluff at first, 18+, no minors 🔞 , throne room sex, a dabble of touch starved Poseidon, Poseidon discovers he has a lactation kink,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Attention.
The tyrant of the oceans was quietly reading a book in his room, waiting for his wife to come join him after putting their twin sons to sleep. Poseidon, didn’t mind that his wife gave their sons all the attention but sometimes he wished she would spend more time with him as the twins constantly wanted their mother’s attention and alone time was rare.
A nanny was brought up by Poseidon, but was shot down by his wife.
“I want to spend as much time as I can with my babies.”
Poseidon remembered her words and while he honored them he still thought getting a nanny was a good. Once an hour has passed Poseidon closed his book and made his way to their sons bedroom to find all three asleep. The twins were sleeping peacefully on their mother’s lap as (Name) was sitting on the couch they had, the sight was adorable but Poseidon decided to leave them. Not risking waking the small ones Poseidon turned the lights off and closed the door returning to his bedroom alone.
In the morning, it was always the same the twins liked to ride their small cars. Rather, (Name) had to push them constantly. Poseidon found his sons smiles rather cute but he just wanted some alone time with his wife. As if on cue, one of the twins had accidentally crashed into their dining room table hurting his head a bit. Rushing over (Name) comforted her small and young son who was crying with his brother gently patting his brother’s back saying “Pain, pain go away.” Which (Name) thought was adorable while Poseidon watched as his son ended his crying and rubbed his face on her chest to wipe his tears away.
Poseidon noted that.
Finally, the day arrived and there was an uproar in Poseidon’s castle as Hermes struggled to contain the twins in his arms. Zeus wanted to spend sometime with his nephews followed by Hades and the twins just wanted to stay home with their mother. Hermes tried to convince they would have fun but the twins wouldn’t hear it until Poseidon told the two simply “Behave yourselves. Stop your crying.” Both twins quickly stifled their crying and changed their tone as they waved bye to their mother and father.
When Poseidon, their father, was involved they seemed to be well behaved and listened more than they did with their mother. Night fell, and Zeus’ was in chaos as the twins couldn’t get a hold of their mother and we’re constantly crying. Zeus covered his ears and wanted anyone to stop their crying. As if on cue Hades had arrived and was the one to silence their cries with toys.
Lots of toys.
“Damn it, they’re spoiled enough!”
“So were you, don’t be a spoiled sport.”
Hermes noticed their crying had ceased completely as their attention was on their toys that Hades bought them. One was a rocket a launcher and accidentally pressing the button flew right into Ares’ eye as he had just arrived, watching Ares cry out in pain the twins apologized while stifling their laughter. Hades told the two boys they could also wrestle with Ares as he was the strongest in Valhalla. The twins took out their fake spears and chased Ares around the palace, Hermes noticed the twins were fast like their father.
“I wonder why (Name) didn’t answer our call.”
“She’s probably resting, I know I certainly would. Twins are a handful.”
“So true..but they are so cute. Just like Poseidon when he was younger.”
Hades took several pictures with his phone of the twins chasing after Ares, no one bothered to help Ares until Hercules showed up and the twins were preoccupied with Hercules lifting the twins with just his huge arms while they clung to them . Ares was eternally grateful to Hercules as was Zeus for being able to handle the twins. That’s what Zeus called them from that day forward as well, not their names just called them “the twins”.
There was a reason (Name) wasn’t able to accept Hermes call and that was because Poseidon finally received the attention he wanted as he had her sitting on his lap facing him as he rubbed her breasts while licking and teasing her nipples with his tongue as she moaned a loud in Poseidon’s throne room as she lightly pulled his beautiful blonde hair. Poseidon knew her nipples were sensitive still and he didn’t hesitate to cease the moment, he also loved the feel of her breasts as he rubbed them gently at first but the longer he did so the rougher he became.
Poseidon was fond of his beloved’s nipples as he would switch from right to left whenever he felt like it, he also teased her nipple with his free hand and played with her breast that he wasn’t tasting at the moment. (Name) tried to tell Poseidon that she was still sensitive but Poseidon didn’t acknowledge her in the slightest except for when a delightful moan escaped her lips and made his ears perk a bit at the beautiful sound.
However, not heeding (Name)’s constant warning Poseidon tasted her breasts milk for the first time, surprising both Poseidon and (Name). Even when (Name) tried to pull away Poseidon kept her in place as he kept licking and sucking her nipples for more as (Name) couldn’t handle anymore and reached her orgasm before Poseidon. Chuckling Poseidon gave one final slow lick to (Name)’s nipple before telling her that “The night is still young and we are far from finished.”
From that day on Poseidon and his queen were a constant heat for one another, Poseidon newfound kink had (Name) on her back for hours as he enjoyed the taste of her milk while nearly fucking her into the mattress of course. Sometimes, Poseidon would slip up and say how he wanted another child just so he could pump his cum into her sweet cunt while draining the milk from her breasts.
It was a constant cycle of Poseidon fucking his wife on their bed and licking the milk afterwards. A constant cycle of fucking and licking, any position that allowed him to see her breasts and watching them bounce to the rhythm of his fucking was perfection to Poseidon. The feel her cunt was amazing to him as he knew her g-spot like the back of his hand as his cock would hit it constantly.
Sometimes, (Name) swore she heard Poseidon mutter “Mine” sometimes but she was too busy feeling the ecstasy of Poseidon’s fucking to catch it.
Once, the twins returned after being gone for two weeks Poseidon calmly told them that they would be spending more time with him from now and that “Mother needs to rest for a few days.” The twins didn’t complain as they constantly followed their father about and Poseidon didn’t seem to mind as he got his quality time with his sons.
But Poseidon knew on the horizon there would be another child joining them soon, it was only a matter of time and when the time came Poseidon wanted more milk…
Just for him and him alone.

Request: Unohana, Rukia, and Rangiku with an S/O who passes out in their arms after a tough battle. Please and thank you.
Hello! Thank you for requesting!
I Hope this is of your liking!
Let me know what you think!
Tsuki's note: If you have not watched the recent anime Season of this year, Be aware of spoilers for Unohana.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unohana:
She holds you so gently.
Unohana asks you a few questions, like what happened if there is any other injury despite what she can immediatly see and so on.
But you can only mumble things.
She doesn't quite understand you, but she keeps talking to you so you stay awake.
It doesn't quite work, you ended up fainting.
Unohana does a little "oh" when you faint.
She whispers to your unconscious body how proud she is of you for fighting and hanging in there for so long.
She gently carries you to a safe place and proceeds to heal you.
If you were able to defeat the enemy, she would be smiling the whole time, some people might think of it as a bit... unsettling, but she is just happy to have you safe and sound.
If you could not win, well, she is pissed.
How dare they harm you?
She might become Kenpachi again, but that will depends on the situation as a whole.
Is it going well? if yes, then, she will nurse you back to health and keep a close eye to what is happening in the battlefield making sure your aggressor is dead.
If it is not going well, then, she will fight. overkill the bastard.
After nursing you of course, you are top priority!
Rukia:
She is a nervous train wreck.
Keeps asking who did this to you and where else you are hurt.
But you can only mumble and that makes her even more nervous.
Oh she is tiny so the chances of you being bigger than her is high. So, consider that she is probably gently cradling your head.
when you faint, she desperatly call for the 4th squad help.
She is tiny, but she can carry you, no worries.
If you won the battle and the situation as whole is not bad, she will stay with you.
or try to, chances of her being told to wait outside is high.
if you did not win, she will leave you in the care of the 4th squad and proceed to find that bastard.
She is pissed and will fight them.
While battling she keeps thinking about you.
When she is back, she is by you all the time until you recover fully.
Doesn't matter how much you asked her to rest or try to convice her you are fine now.
She ain't leaving you.
Rangiku:
She holds you gently too.
Rangiku gets very anxious and worried, but she tries to talk to you.
She knows losing consciousness isn't good.
It doesn't quite work.
She starts to cry a bit and asks inform Hitsugaya about taking you to the 4th squad.
Of course he allows and covers for her.
Rangiku starts whispering bitter-sweet things like " Don't leave me, baby leave. " , " I know you are strong, hang in there!"
Regardless how the battlefiled is like she will leave you in the 4th squad care.
She cannot let her captain alone, even if it tears her heart in half.
As soon as she can see you again, she is hugging you and holding you close.
She gets clingy.
May bring you some food or drinks while you recover.
She won't allow you to push yourself.
Rangiku will make you use her as pillow, no, this is not an option.

This is it!
Thank you for reading!

Airheaded S/O Headcannons #4 Byakuya (Bleach)
Tumblr media
He's so confused by you
Thinks you're faking at first
You, a ryoka, on the loose in the soul society, have the unfortunate privilege of running into him first.
You'd come in with Ichigo and the others to save Rukia
And upon running into Byakuya, ask-
"Hey you! Do you have any idea where I am right now? I'm trying to get to this cell thingy and save my friend. Could you give me directions?"
Either you're incredibly stupid or incredibly brave to talk to one of the Court Guard Captains like that.
It's definitely stupidity
And you have the nerve to address him so formally.
He immediately uses the shikai of his zanpakutō
"Scatter, Senbonzakura."
And what did you you?
You swatted away the mass of blossoms like it was a bug.
"Flowers???? You tryna say I stink or something 😡😡😡"
And he's just ??????
Because nobody, not even Ichigo, was strong enough to swat away his attack.
You had to be putting on an act
There was no way you were this dumb
Not with the way your spiritual pressure had skyrocketed after learning he was the one who beat Ichigo in the world of the living.
You were trying to deceive him, he was sure if it.
At least he was until you went in for a kick and slipped, knocking the back of your skull on the roof behind you, instantly passing out.
He went over to investigate, maybe give a killing blow.
Then you shot up, nearly breaking his composure.
"Shit, I gotta help Chad!!!" Your head whipping towards him.
"I'll be back for you, flower man," And seemed to disappear in a matter of seconds.
He would've given chase
Key word: would've, if he hadn't been so confused.
The next time he saw you was after the whole Aizen reveal.
You walked up to him, despite your friends calling for you, and looked over a nasty gash on his side.
"That looks painful."
He gave a small glare towards you.
"I don't need your sympathy."
You shoved him backward and put your hand on his wound.
"Yeah, yeah, shove that attitude up your ass and let me help."
And he's ????????
Because no one had dared to talk to him like that.
"Disperse and Redistribute." Energy flowed from your palm, the gash in his side sealing up, only to reappear on your body.
You jumped away, hugging your stomach.
"Ow, that does hurt like hell! How were you walking!!!"
He's astonished, to say the least.
You took his pain for your own, after he tried to kill you earlier.
You were a peculiar human
Keeps an eye on you from then on.
Finds out that yes, you are just that stupid and feels just a little softer towards you because of it
Don't get it twisted, he still thinks of you as a nuisance, but begrudgingly helps you.
You visit the Soul Society quite often because Kisuke has you drop off new inventions.
Even if most end up broken on the way there.
Personally escorts you where you need to go because "it's faster," and, "more efficient than you getting lost and arguing with Mayori"
And you go along with it but complain because "He's being a meany about it," and, "doesn't let you talk with anyone."
"You're not here to 'talk' with friends."
"But you're my friend and I always talk with you."
"We're not friends."
And the look on your face breaks his resolve immediately.
"Acquaintances, we're acquaintances."
And you're back to being all smiles with not a thought behind your eyes.
On the days he's busy either in a captain's meeting or with work, he'll send Renji to assist you.
You almost always barge into his office anyway, kicking out his door with a frazzled Renji behind you.
"You can't just kick down the door!!!!!" And you shush his lieutenant.
"Shhh shhh shhh! Ahem... HI BYAKUYA!!!! 😃" Then you just leave
And he can't even be mad
Annoyed, very
But mad? For some reason he never was.
He doesn't baby you for obvious reasons (He's got a reputation to uphold) but he does let you get away with things.
You wanna stay over another day in the Seireitei?
He can make some arrangements
You wanna heal some of his injuries from a battle before his clan medics get there?
He'll allow you to touch him so you can help.
You accidentally broke an item you were supposed to deliver?
It's fine. Kisuke was always capable of making another.
Rukia is the one who has to point out he has feelings for you.
She had watched the two of you spar
Which is already something very difficult to get her brother to agree with.
How you managed to do it she would never know.
(It's because you kept pestering him about getting strong enough to beat the Arancars and you thought Kenpachi was too scary to train with)
The two of you fought for most of the day, not holding back whatsoever.
The spiritual pressure from the both of you overwhelming to anyone that went near.
When you decided to call it a truce, you were covered with little scratches from head to toe.
Byakuya was in a similar state.
And Rukia had noticed a shift in her brother' demeanor as he placed a hand on your head.
"You're injured." But you only beamed up at his words, smile big as ever.
"You kiddin? This is nothing. And if you're gonna complain about my injuries, I get to complain about yours."
And the smallest of smiles graced his face. His eyes looking down at you softly
"Very well then. I won't bring them up again."
Rukia waited for you to leave before confronting her brother.
"You like them, don't you?"
He turned away from her, yet she caught the slight red dusting his cheeks.
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Don't play dumb. I saw you just now. When's the last time you ever sparred with somebody, let alone smile like that?" She had a smug grin on her face, knowing that her words sunk in as Byakuya left in a hurry.
Did he have feelings for you?
No, he couldn't.
He already tried his luck at happiness with Hisana.
There was no way he could just forget about her and move on.
But then why did he let his guard down with you?
Why had he let your infectious grins spread to him?
Why did a small part of him look forward to your visits?
It'd take him while to figure out what he wanted.
He eventually came to the consensus that Hisana would want him to move forward and be happy. She wouldn't want him to continue grieving over something that wasn't his fault
So after a bit of deliberation, he'd begun trying to court you.
Now Byakuya is one of the few unfortunate souls that tries to court you normally.
He tries gift giving, which you appreciate but don't understand the secret undertones.
You just think he's finally accepted you as a friend 🥺.
He invites you over to his estate to walk you through the gardens.
The whole time you have no clue it's supposed to be a date.
He's exasperated because he thinks you're being oblivious on purpose as not to hurt his feelings.
Rukia reassures him that's not the case and he just has to be direct.
"They're an idiot, remember? They're not gonna understand subtlety."
So he leads you somewhere quiet, hopefully without any interruptions, and tries to confess.
He'll place a hand on your head, a gesture you seem to enjoy, and start speaking.
He's halfway through when the dots connect in your smol brain and you realize what's going on.
You pull him by his collar and kiss him before he gets a chance to finish.
And he's glad he wasn't the one making a fool of himself this time.
He won't call you anything sweet in public.
The best you'll get out of him is your name.
But in the privacy of his estate, he'll call you dearest, sweetheart, hun, and love.
Doesn't hold you back if you wanna fight.
He trusts in your ability to choose your battles.
Although, he'll interfere if he thinks the enemy is about to kill you. Scolding you right after for being careless.
You always argue with the clan elders and he's happy you don't let them push you around.
He has to get used to being forward with you. Which is a challenge for the emotionally closed off man.
But he knows it's worth it every time you give him that dopey smile.
An: Definitely the most chaotic of the bunch so far.
NEXT UP: Kakashi Hatake

Has Ichigo ever had any individual monologues or thoughts about Orihime like he has with Rukia? Has he ever specifically singled her and her importance on his life out? Besides the "I will protect her" moment which I know was absolutely about Orihime. Signed, an Ichiruki who doesn't hate Orihime and likes Ichihime a tad but wants a different take other than from other Ichiruki shippers.
Nope. And I think that was deliberate on Kubo's part.
Because Ichigo's feelings for Orihime were supposed to be hidden, they were supposed to be a secret, a mystery that the reader was meant to figure out over time, rather than being spoon-fed a quick and easy "I love Orihime" monologue. I believe Kubo chose to show, not tell when it came to Ichigo's feelings for Orihime. Which makes for so much better and interesting writing.
It was "safe" to share with the reader Ichigo's thoughts about Rukia (or Chad, or Ishida, or whoever else) in monologues, because his thoughts about her weren't romantic; he could monologue about her being important in his life, because that was absolutely true, but there wasn't anything deeper than that in a romantic sense. There weren't any hidden feelings for her that Kubo risked unveiling if we delved into his thoughts. So there was no fear of spoiling the ending of "who will end up with who?" or feeling the need to pair people up too early once feelings have been confirmed on both sides (and Kubo said he purposely waited until the end to pair the couples up).
We read Ichigo's thoughts about Rukia, and what did we learn? That it was all platonic! He never expressed any feelings of romance in those monologues. His motivations and reasoning were made clear.
While Orihime...? We had *no idea* what he was thinking about when it came to her. Kubo purposely kept it hidden. He could have been thinking anything (😏😉🤫) because we just didn't know. And not knowing left the door wide open for the possibility of him having feelings for her.
We could only make inferences based off of his actions, the way he acted towards her and around her, and pick up on the patterns over time, how it all pointed to his purposely hidden feelings for her.
You can see it in the way his usual prickly disposition softens around her, the way his enemies target her more than anyone else just to get to him, the blind rage when his enemies taunt him about her, his all-out panic when he thinks she's in danger, how flustered he gets when people tease him about her, the depression when he realized she was abducted, the puppy dog eye way he looks at her when he realizes she's okay again.
You see him looking at her with relief whenever she cries and thanks him for being okay after a battle, you see his shoulders sag with guilt as he apologizes for failing to protect her, you see him bowing before her when he makes the vow to protect, grinning as he tells Grimmjow he's not allowed to get hurt anymore because Orihime said so, rising up from the dead for her, getting stronger when she's near him in the gamespace, the rage when Tsukishima calls her on the phone in front of him, the devastation in his eyes when she heals Tsukishima's arm, the trust he feels in asking her to go two-to-one against Yhwach.
You never hear him thinking about any of this--not once. But you don't need to. It all became so obvious over time.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi (Bleach) -Oneshot
Tumblr media
You weren't certain how you got so unlucky. Ichigo always told you that this captain was a psycho. You should have taken it more seriously. Because when you discovered your abilities, the Head captain assured you that they would be able to help to avoid another breakdown like you had in the world of the living.
Splitting a building in half.
You were scared. Terrified that you would hurt someone. You'd gotten lucky that the structure was abandoned, but the next time you wouldn't be as fortunate. So here you were, in the soul society, hiding.
"I just need to make it to Rukia, then she can open that freaking portal and get me out of here."
You had one meeting with Mayuri Kurotsuchi and that was enough. He went on a tangent about all the experiments he wanted to conduct and it became clear that he had no interest in helping you hone your skills.
"There she is Nemu."
You flinched from your spot behind the wall. You weren't even offered a chance to run.
"W-Wait!!"
"Knock her out."
With a swift tap to the back of your head, your vision faded.
~~
"Such bothersome creatures, humans."
You were laying on the table and Mayuri moved closer, holding the needle.
"Master, if you'd explained to her that we were actually trying to help she might have been more willing."
Mayuri just grinned.
"Everything I do has a purpose. Powers such as hers are typically more prominent when she's in fear. I was merely checking to see if I could urge a fraction of that energy. I was right. You saw it didn't you?"
Nemu nods.
"Yes master, her reiatsu is quite raw. Humans in the world of the living are quite unique."
"Indeed they are. I will enjoy this."
He pressed the needle into your skin, watching the liquid slide beneath your skin as he stepped away.
"Now we wait until she wakes up. You're dismissed."
"Yes master." Nemu bowed, walking away.
Mayuri's gaze moved back to your form. You shifted against the table, and his eyes narrowed.
"Is she waking already?"
You should have been asleep for at least another hour, especially with what he'd just administered into your bloodstream. He placed the needle down, moving closer. Your eyes opened lazily, and Mayuri just folded his arms.
"How unusual, you're already awake."
It took a moment for you to gather your bearings, but when you did, your eyes shot open. You jolted upright.
"What the hell did you-"
Your statement dropped at the end, and your body disappeared. Mayuri grinned, and you staggered when you reappeared a distance away, eyes shaking in shock. You straightened, and Mayuri just watched you proudly. Your eyes drifted to your hands.
"W-What just happened..."
"I believe I fixed your problem."
You just stared at him. Because although he'd literally kidnapped you and possibly slipped some crazy evil genius serum in your veins, you couldn't deny that something felt different. It all felt lighter, like you'd dropped some heavy weight.
"Would you like to learn more?"
His grin was wide, because you knew he could see your eagerness to understand what happened. He would no doubt put you through some crazy trails, but your curiosity was brimming. You needed to know.
"I do."
Exactly what he wanted to hear.
~Four Months Later~
"WHAT THE HELL MAYURI!!"
You were being chased by a hollow and Mayuri just watched.
"I told you that your reiatsu was growing. You should never let your guard down."
"NO SHIT!!"
You spun around, clenching your fist. When it jumped at you, your legs grounded and you fired a punch. The base of your hand connected with its mask and the shockwave of energy caved the hollow's mask in, sending a rush of wind that batted against the trees present. The hollow disintegrated almost instantly as the wind began to level out.
You huffed.
"Impressive, your spiritual pressure has grown quite a lot. Your abilities are still very sloppy, but there is always room for improvement."
A vein popped on your head at the statement.
"I'LL SHOW YOU SLOPPY!!"
This was nothing new.
Mayuri made you his little lap dog. Always testing out his crazy theories on you. The first time you mastered flash step, he'd failed to tell you that you were close to the Kuchiki clan's residence. So when you landed in Byakuya's koi pond and killed some of his precious fish, it's safe to say that you'd spent that night in the fourth squad barracks getting healed by Hanataro.
He was a menace to society. An effortless genius, but a bastard. After your outburst, you'd left and headed to hang out with Nemu and her little association. She was having tea with some of the other female reapers.
"Then he says that I'm sloppy, do you believe that!!"
Okay, so maybe you just came to vent.
Rangiku laughs.
"That does sound like him."
You sighed heavily.
"I just wish he'd help me without it always turning into me ending up with a dozen bruises. Is that too much to ask?"
" I understand you might be skeptical, but Master must have faith in your abilities."
You snort.
"Like if, he just enjoys having me around to mess with." You grumbled.
Nemu wore a smile.
"Master has never taken interest in anyone who wasn't on some level important. Especially humans. In his eyes, there is worth. It may not seem like it, and he will never say it, but to him, you matter."
The statement was not what you were expecting.
You didn't want to talk about it further, so you grabbed a cup of tea and downed it like alcohol as Yachiru cheered in the background.
As you were making your way back after hours of venting, her words still wouldn't leave you.
That's why when you headed to his barracks, it was just a distraction. Your trips to the soul society were usually you hanging out with Mayuri and ending up in some kind of crazy situation.
Although that was the truth, you could have walked away at any time. You didn't have to keep coming back.
"So why do I.."
You couldn't answer the question.
"He will never say it, but to him, you matter."
You blushed as the words played back.
"I-IT'S NOT LIKE I LIKE HIM OR ANYTHING!!"
"Quit your yelling."
The nonchalant voice was expected. You hadn't even realized that you walked into his personal lab.
The blue haired male standing before you was not who you expected to see.
"W-WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!!!"
"Would you seize the yelling."
His voice sounds agitated and you just pointed dumbly, because you knew that voice.
"M-M-Mayuri!!"
He ran a hand through his hair, disinterested.
"Who else would it be? Do you think I would let some stranger into my personal space to exploit my discoveries? I'd quicker dissect them."
A creepy smile grew on his face and you sweatdropped.
"Yep, that's definitely him."
It took you a moment to realize his hair was dripping, as if he just came out of the shower. He was moving around the room casually, yet you still kept your distance.
This was weird.
Your silence must have finally drawn his attention, because he turned to you, and your face heated up.
"Why are you suddenly so quiet?"
"N-No reason!!"
You waved frantically.
He didn't seem to buy that. With one step, he was standing right in front of you.
Mayuri leaned slightly to match your height, wearing that know it all grin.
"Did you fall in love with this face?"
"T-THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!"
His stupid smirk didn't leave, and all you wanted to do at that moment was punch him if nothing but to stop your embarrassment. His hand slid behind your neck, and you meant to question it, but his lips were suddenly pressed to your own, and all you could do was gape like a fish. His sapphire tresses tickled your forehead, and you couldn't help but take in the scent of his wash. It was almost intoxicating.
His tongue drifted over your lips teasingly and you couldn't stop the sound that escaped. Mayuri pulled back, tauntingly. Enjoying the dazed look in your eyes.
"You're transparent, (Y/N)."
You swallowed. Because during the entirety of your partnership, he'd never called you by your name. Nor has he ever looked at you like that.
"Nemu was right.."
It seems you've gained the attention of this crazy genius. You weren't sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Been meaning to go back and take stock of my "score" on the ongoing @bleach-smashorpass, I've grayed out anything where my personal pick didn't match the popular outcome, and left the ones where I fall into the majority vote in color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look, I'll be real, I'm not above monsterfuckery, even if I don't consider it ""my thing"" but I'd have voted smash on Ayon if he didn't have his weird secret muppet face. Also Aaroniero was an extremely light smash, i really had to flip flop on that one a few times before making a choice. I'll be honest, I liked original Chapter25 epilogue Aisslinger way more than what we got in the Arrancar Arc, and if I could split the vote I'd smash original and pass on final design for him.
Bambi is just such a boring design, and honestly Batsuunsai isn't much better, but the glasses are cute. She was really close to being a pass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was actually surprised that I had to stop and think about Choe but his giant chin and tiny bowl cut were not doing him any favors. Also as much as I like Cyan as a character, there is just something about hime cuts that are an automatic off switch for me. the rest of these felt fairly obvious.
not gonna lie, little hurt by the lack of D-Roy and Dordonii love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Confused that people were so lukewarm on Findor, although it was a close split. Also oddly I could have sworn I passed on Furofushi... I'm not really a fan of pigtails, with very few exceptions, but when I went to check the poll results it said I voted smash. Maybe I was thinking she was feeling Hiyori adjacent enough to count it at the time? I.... I don't remember voting smash on Entetsu...
i feel very scandalized by having voted unpopularly on all these old men... I'll be honest, Gremmy is a very lukewarm smash, and the potential of the Visionary power as a sex thing was very much the deciding factor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
boy bleach fans really don't like moustaches, huh? So funny enough it wasn't until the anime that I realized Hidetomo has his multiple earrings and somehow that changed his whole vibe for me, but prior to that it would have been an easy pass. I absolutely cannot abide characters whose whole thing is being someones dead wife/girlfriend, even if she otherwise looks exactly like Rukia, who'll be a smash for sure once we get to the Rs.
i figured i'd be on the wrong side of the fence with the kurosaki men but it's a real hard no on all the above. I'll be real, I'm kinda surprised Ikkaku was so popular. The rest of these felt obvious. Oh wait no there was like no love for Izumi Ishida. Boo to that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay so hear me out... Jugram is too blond. I know that sounds like nonsense, but like, he's too fundementally blond. Like most of Bleach's blond characters could have other generally light hair colors, and it wouldn't super change their image or aesthetic, but Jugram has to be blonde because the alternatives don'teel the same, and that's too much blond for me.
i know i voted pass on ichigo, which might make smash on kaien seem weird, but it's between the personality difference and the eyelashes. People not smashing on Kiyone is a catastrophe
and with that i'm all caught up with the letters where all the polls that have already closed. i'll be back to update these as the rest keep rolling along. I dunno why I really did this apart from the compulsion

Do you feel that Renji’s personality was retconned? In his debut he’s relentlessly cruel to Rukia, but then he risks his life for her after Ichigo does so first. If Renji truly cared for Rukia, shouldn’t he had shown some level of despair when he and Byakuya were assigned to apprehend her? Seeing how he is in the rest of the story, versus how he was in the beginning is very jarring. Did Kubo just didn’t exactly know what he wanted Renji to be?
Yeah, I believe so. When Renji is introduced, he's a cocky asshole who attacks and hurts Rukia and tries to kill anyone that helps her. He thinks it's pathetic that she has a human expression, he thinks she's weird for caring for another person let alone a human. Meanwhile, later in season 1, it's revealed that Renji deeply missed Rukia, that she was basically his only family that got stolen from him. That he felt like he wasn't noble enough to even speak to her. So he was an old friend of hers that hasn't spoken to her in over 40 years. It's completely different. That is NOT the proper reaction to seeing her after so long. Especially with Byakuya, the alleged man he had hated in the first place??? Or was jealous of?? And he just abandons Rukia until Ichigo beats him up over it. His character and arc is sooooo confused. I don't even know if Kubo had figured out Soul Society at all. Otherwise, Byakuya would have been wearing his Captain's Coat at that point. He even made it seem like human emotions were beneath a Soul Reaper, only to turn around and introduce a dozen soul reapers with human???? emotion??? Like what??? I mean granted they would all be boring but, at the least any and all nobles should have been more heartless bastards if that were the case. If Shinigami borns were meant to cast aside their emotions to be a true apathetic balance and force of nature, but that was also forgotten about.
BLEACH main characters changed their personalities by arc 2 in Hueco Mundo. All of them feel like their personalities got retconned.

I just wanted to rant about Orihime
Tumblr media
I absolutely HATE the way she was treated in Hueco Mundo, especially for such a sweet and caring girl like her. She was kidnapped against her will, with Ulquiorra making the sick decision to threaten her with the lives of the people she loves, called a traitor for literally being blackmailed, she was physically abused by Loly and Menoly so badly TWICE, with loly punching her in the face, leaving her face disfigured (And there was even BLOOD coming out of her mouth!), for no reason, yet she still healed her abusers out of kindness and Loly and Menoly threatened to tear out her eye and fingernails OVER SOMEONE ORIHIME DIDN'T EVEN LIKE, she was completely psychologically broken by Ulquiorra when he KILLED the man she LOVED just to torture her more, which she even blamed HERSELF for, threatened to rip open her skull and chest and threatened to force feed her and give her intravenous therapy, Nnoitra suggested that he could... you know... and was such a complete vile and disgusting creep to her, calling her his "pet", (Ulquiorra was very hypocritical regarding this, because he called out Nnoitra, yet he himself still was very willing to psychologically torture Orihime) Grimmjow strangled her twice, dragged her around in chains, manhandled her and only wanted Orihime to heal Ichigo so he could hurt him again, and called her names that I don't want to mention. It physically pains me to see someone as kind and gentle as her suffer so much... Aizen and the Arrancars are complete sadistic monsters and they make me sick that they'd do this to poor Orihime. And Aizen didn't even want her powers at all, it was just to distract the strongest fighters while he took over Karakura, so all the trauma she went through was all for NOTHING.
Yet people hate her because of stupid shipping wars. I definitely don't ship UlquiHime (which people ship just to get her out of the way of IchiRuki) because he was manipulative and psychologically tormented her to past breaking point. They're shipping her with her LITERAL MENTAL ABUSER whom she has never even met or even had a single thought about until the fight with Yammy and when he kidnapped her. (And even after that, the only memory she had of Ulquiorra after the Hueco Mundo Arc was when he murdered Ichigo) A gentle girl like her deserves someone who doesn't abuse and torment her so much all the time. People say that she cared more about Ulquiorra than she did Ichigo, but that is definitely not the case, hence all the, "Kurosaki-kuns". (Y'all really want her to stay in HM forever?! With those awful Arrancar monsters and Aizen?!)
People also think that Orihime is far too obsessed with Ichigo, yet with IchiRuki, Ichigo CANNOT FUNCTION without his true love Rukia? He doesn't care about protecting people who aren't Rukia? And all these Yanderes, like Loly, Jaguara (Wolf's Rain), Shiro (Deadman Wonderland) and ESPECIALLY Yuno Gasai (Mirai Nikki) get away with literally harming or MURDERING anyone who even so much as looks at their love interest, or even their love interest themselves because it's 'cute?' They're the ones who are too obsessed if they're going to resort to such extreme lengths for their love interest, or out of jealousy towards their love interest. They're literally saying that a normal, sweet, kind girl is WORSE than these psychos. Orihime was just experiencing a normal crush, which developed into GENUINE LOVE for Ichigo, while these yanderes are complete psychos regarding their love interests, which Orihime is not. Excuse me, Yanderes, resorting to killing for love is not cute in the slightest. Orihime would never murder anyone over Ichigo. She even felt bad for being jealous of Rukia because Orihime LOVES Rukia as a friend and thinks she's amazing. Orihime was even happy for Rukia when she got married to Renji, and cried tears of joy for her (And no, it's not because Orihime finally could have Ichigo all to herself). Not to mention her love for Ichigo was what broke her out of Tsukishima's brainwashing.
And she's even been VILLAINISED too, just because she's in the way of IchiRuki (Which is NOT OK because of the huge age gap, and that Ichigo would have to die in order to be with Rukia, which would be devastating for Orihime because she wants to keep him alive and safe). But that doesn't mean I don't love Rukia, nor do I think that she's in the way of IchiHime. I definitely support RenRuki, which makes way more sense than IchiRuki. Side note, I also don't understand all the bashing that Renji gets, he's still a nice guy. Rukia was very supportive of Orihime and understood her captivity situation, and she's so funny 😄 People have said that Orihime healed more enemies than friends, but Orihime is many things, and a villain is NOT one of them. She healed Loly and Menoly because she just can't stand people getting hurt, no matter who they are, and she only healed Grimmjow's arm because Aizen told her to. And the haters ignore that she always heals her friends ALL THE TIME. That does not mean Orihime is a villain. I mean, Aughra (The Dark Crystal) paid her respects to SkekMal the Hunter, a violent, malevolent beast, even calling him the most 'beautiful' of the Skeksis, but does that make her a villain? No way. She still sacrificed her life/essence in place of Brea, Seladon and Maudra Fara. Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) made a grave for his friend Shin, who literally tortured Ken by scarring his body and tormented and enslaved innocent people to build an entire city for Yuria, Ken's fiancee, who Shin had kidnapped. Does that make Ken a villain? No way. People claim Orihime is a villain, yet they let the ACTUAL villains get away with what they did to her just because they're attractive. Yes, Orihime healed her enemies, but she also NEVER ATTACKED HER FRIENDS.
Also, Orihime has been called selfish and manipulative, among other things. But here's the thing: She's NOT. She's far from all that. The reason she slapped Ulquiorra, which she had every right to do, was because he taunted her that Chad was supposedly dead, and he was dissing her friends by saying they were stupid and reckless to charge straight into Hueco Mundo. Ulq KNOWS that Orihime cares for her friends, so he deliberately used her love for her friends to kidnap her, manipulate her and completely psychologically break her. Orihime even literally begged to be let out of her cell to go and help Rukia, one of her BEST FRIENDS. When she was restrained by Nnoitra, she didn't care that she was being held back in a really creepy manner by one of the most vile Arrancars in existence. She really cared about Ichigo's and Nel's safety. She even shielded Uryu from Ulquiorra while completely breaking down, tried to help Yachiru, and even tried to heal Zaraki after the Nnoitra fight before getting rekidnapped. Victim blaming or what? (And also someone said that just because Orihime doesn't get a job at a clinic helping people means she FAKING her kindness? It's all an act? Like WHAT?! She can only get a job at a clinic because if not it means her kindness is an act?! She can still have other jobs AND still heal people all the while!!!! I'm not saying that helping people is wrong or bad, because it's not. I'm saying that just because she doesn't work at a clinic doesn't mean she doesn't like helping people!!!)
And there's also the whole Damsel in distress thing. That wasn't Orihime's fault. Aizen and Ulquiorra forced her into that position by threatening the lives of her friends. What else could she do? Not to mention her escorts were horribly killed right in front of her just to prove Ulquiorra's point. Even then, Orihime told THEM to run, because she valued their lives more than her own. Orihime didn't plan her own kidnapping, abuse and trauma, Aizen did. He was the one basically making her submit due to his spiritual pressure. If someone more mentally hardened was kidnapped, and was the type of person to kill their captors and escape from captivity instantly, they get so much praise, but if it's a sweet, pacifistic person like Orihime, who doesn't like to even WOUND people, and only had to comply with their captors because the people they love would have been killed, and having been traumatised to the point of breaking down in tears, they get the blame just for, "being a Damsel/Dude in distress"... like WHAT?!
And then there was her screaming to Ichigo for help. She was completely psychologically broken and traumatised by seeing the man she loved practically dead, so much so, that she couldn't do anything but cry because she loved Ichigo so much, and didn't want him to get hurt. She's left in pain and horror and guilt, yet it's ULQUIORRA who is really to blame here, not her. Captivity and abuse, especially someone as gentle as her, does that to you. He was the one who killed Ichigo and MOCKED her love for him while doing that just to break her even more, and Ulquiorra left behind his Reiatsu on Ichigo, which was too strong for Orihime to possibly reverse. Her LITERAL MENTAL BREAKDOWN was what awakened Vasto Lorde Ichigo. She didn't even blame Ichigo for dying and not protecting her, Uryu for not protecting Ichigo or Ulquiorra for killing him and torturing her - she blamed HERSELF. (I don't blame Ichigo and Uryu, they were literally killed and injured because of that stupid batboy).
Then there's her pacifistic nature and inability to fight. Again, she hates seeing people, friend or foe, being injured. Just because Orihime only heals and shields does not make her weak or useless at all. People are seeing her overkindness as weakness, uselessness and/or even villainy, and want her to have a more aggressive personality. Pacifism is seen as villainy, but aggression isn't? She's even being compared to Sakura. Orihime is WAY nicer than Sakura could ever be. (I'm sorry to those who like Sakura, I understand why you do). Orihime would never stoop so low as to beat up her friends or even say a single mean word to them over the smallest things like Sakura does. (Beating up your friends isn't funny at all, it's just mean).
She mostly gets a bad rep for yelling, "Kurosaki-kun!", but guess what? It's because she CARES about Ichigo, because he's being injured and killed right in front of her. If she didn't care about him, she wouldn't be saying his name worriedly.
And finally, there's her being scared of Ichigo's Hollow Mask. It literally brought back traumatising memories of a Hollowfied Sora/Acidwire, and she was scared FOR Ichigo, not OF Ichigo. She didn't want him to lose himself to his Hollow side like Sora did. That doesn't mean I hate Ichigo for scaring her, I know he was trying to protect her, which he has been doing the whole time. We love you, Kurosaki-kun 💖 (And people said that Ichigo didn't heed Loly's threat to tear out Orihime's eye and Ulquiorra "protected" her by stopping Ichigo, but... Ulquiorra didn't heed Loly's threat either! He told Loly (Who was HOLDING ORIHIME) he didn't stop Ichigo to save Loly, which extends to Orihime as well!)
I'm sorry for this long rant, but I just feel upset with the way Orihime is treated in- and out-of-universe. She's just so sweet. I'm just trying to think about all of this in a logical and pathological way.
TL;DR: I'm upset that Orihime gets so much hate because she has suffered so much and is a sweet girl.

I continue to look for an AU fic where Ichigo dies and no one can find him anywhere in soul society for years. To the point that they start to think maybe he just went into the reincarnation cycle already.
Eventually the Rukongai has some type of issue and a few of the shinigami are sent out to follow up on it. While responding to it they happen upon a small, nervous child.
One of the younger and newer shinigami tries to get some information out of her or what she may have seen, they wouldn't have hurt her, but they move too quick and she jerks back. They don't even have time to apologize before a boy is standing in front of her and scowling.
He's so small. All protective fury and barely contained fear tucked into too thin limbs and dusty, bruised skin. His hair is bright, even under all the dirt.
His little chin wobbles but he still holds it up to look them in the eyes, and there are tears welling up but he blinks them away. His legs don't shake the whole time though.
There's no memory or recognition in his eyes when he looks at those who knew him.
Because everyone would spoil the hell out of him, I need the Visored and Kisuke spoiling the hell out of him.
This time he can grow up slower and with more love and support than he knows what to do with.
This time when he learns to raise a blade it won't be because he has too. Maybe this time he decides to use his hands for healing or focus on strategy.
And any blood shed will be under their watchful eyes, in training or the small accidents children always get into, instead of life or death battles.
Ichigo is always going to be a protector at his core and he'll always be the first one in and the last one out.
They can make sure he's not alone though, that the burden isn't solely on him and that he's not just a power piece in everyone's plans.
This time the protector gets to be protected.
And maybe some day they'll tell him that the hero in the stories they tell him are actually him.
*******
Ichigo asking to hold hands with Kensei and okay, how is Kensei suppose to say no to those big eyes? He can't. Ichigo holding up his hand and wiggling his fingers until Kensei takes it. Shūhei letting Ichigo cling to his leg and sit with him while doing paperwork, and Mashiro carriing him on her back and zooming around.
The 11th division making off with him and everyone's low key concerned at first because it's the 11th but they shouldn't have worried. They all spar with Ichigo and it's easy to see how happy he is when they carefully knock him over and then help him up before going over how to better his stance or block a hit. They howl and yell in support when he gets a hit in and he proudly shows off the hard earned scrapes and bruises.
Renji carrying him around on his shoulder and grinning at small fingers that tangle in his hair and pull a little too hard when excited. Rukia spending hours drawing with him and they stick their art up everywhere they can get away with it. They put up multiple in Byakuya's office and he doesn't acknowledge anyone who dares asks about taking them down.
Yoruichi napping with Ichigo and purring when he uses her a pillow or even letting him wrap his arms around her like a stuffed animal. She's known to smack out a paw at anyone who tries waking him up or moving him.
Kisuke and Ichigo staring at each other for 10 minutes when they first meet again, before Ichigo seems to find whatever he was looking for and gives a shy smile. Kisuke is absolutely gone, surprisedrelievedhappysohappy and protectprotectprotect burning in his chest.
Shunsui and Ichigo sitting together and enjoying nice afternoons. Both have little ceramic cups, Ichigo's has little berries painted on it that he had proudly done himself. No one mentions it was because of Lisa's wrath when she saw Shunsui giving Ichigo a sake cup of water. Now it's clearly marked and usually contains a bright, clearly not sake, colored juice.
Hiyori teasing him like a big sister and smacking him with her sandal when he does something reckless. They play pranks on Kisuke and Shinji frequently.
Kūkaku and Ganju occasionally stealing Ichigo and smothering him with the affection they were never able to give him before. They tell him about their clan without mentioning or hinting at the relation. Ichigo listening in excitement and saying he wished he had a family like that, not knowing why that makes them both look so happy but also so sad.
Shinji being one of Ichigo's favorites because he speaks to Ichigo like an adult. He tells him the truth when he asks questions and always helps him get back on his feet when he's been knocked off them. He lets Ichigo play with his hair and he always scares away any monsters that might be hiding behind shady corners and under dark steps. Sometimes he watches Ichigo with a weird look on his face, something between the way Kūkaku looks at him and Kisuke looks at him. Almost guilty... sorrowful. Grief is so heavy. When Ichigo asks about it, Shinji doesn't give an answer. It's one of the only times he feels like Shinji is hiding something from him.

How did Hisana managed to die at the same time and come to Soul Society at the same time as a newborn Rukia?
Sure, there might be some interesting explanations, but...
... what happens when others small babies die in the World of the Living? Do they just appear in that "arrival line" that was shown in another manga panel and retrieved by whichever Shinigami is on duty that day?
Do they usually stay or go right back to the World of the Living through automatic reincarnation?
A way that would have explained why Hisana could have abandoned Rukia like that and not have searched for her until she married Byakuya, is if Rukia was in fact her daughter and the conception had been... non-consensual...
It would also explain them going at the same time to Soul Society if Hisana had died from childbirth right after a stillborn Rukia had been born.
They die pretty much at the same time. They're mother and daughter. They appear together at the Rukongai.
Unwelcomed memories of the violent act, the trauma of having to carry an unwanted baby, the grueling process of childbirth and subsequent death would have remain with Hisana. It's a horribly deep trauma.
Rukia is the constant reminder of all of that, so Hisana abandons her.
It's only when she marries Byakuya (comfort and safety, even without love from her part. ) that her mind goes back to a child that had no guilt at all for what had been done to Hisana.
And she thinks: "Have I put her in danger of suffering what I did too because I was too hurt and scared?"
So she starts frantically searching for her, guilt plaguing her. A new understanding of her actions towards a small innocent baby and how wrong it had been...
Byakuya was kind, but Hisana has not been able to love him. She's too broken to love anyone at all. But if she finds Rukia, maybe after some time she can come clean about everything to him. Maybe he can give Rukia what Hisana wasn't able to.
But then she gets ill. She worsens day by day. She's going to have to abandon the one that offered her a home and comfort. She's going to leave him without having giving him nothing in return.
She has Byakuya promise her on her deathbed that he'll look for Rukia.
It's too late for the truth now, and maybe it's better that way... if... when Byakuya finds Rukia, she won't have to carry the of the violence that conceived her.
Maybe it's for the best if her daughter doesn't know anything... not the truth...not even the lie that she's her sister. Let her be her own person, detached from Hisana, who never felt worthy of anything and anyone. Who always pushed everyone away because she cannot stand physical proximity. Because she's too damaged...

Writing/Art Update 2.20.2024
Well, I had another very solid week. I hesitate to call it good, because I didn't actually enjoy it very much, but I did grind out 8,642 words last week. I finished Chapter 8 and made a solid dent in Chapter 9a. Basically, I just tried to write at least a thousand words a day, which I accomplished almost every day. Yesterday, I only did 800, but I did 2000 on Sunday, plus the 800 was the ending scene for the chapter, so I deserve a little grace there. And it was a three-day weekend for my kids!
I am at the stage of the fanfic where most of the ambiguity is gone--I know what scenes are left and I just gotta write them. It doesn't matter if I want to or not, the fanfic isn't going to be done until I write them, so I just do it. I always worry that writing in this mindset is going to produce bad, unlovable writing--like, if I don't love writing this, how is anyone going to love reading it? Historically, though, that doesn't bear out--big chunks of Call Me Back and What We Do with Our Hearts were written in this exact fugue state, and I often end up loving them after the fact, and they still contain parts that are really funny or insightful or heartfelt or whatever. I literally do not know how this is possible, it just is. Also, like: there is going to be editing. It is truly astonishing how hard it is to slap anything at all down on a page and then how easy it is to shape it up into something good later on. It is a lot like throwing flat colors down on a piece of art and then adding a little texture and shading later.
The other thing I don't like about writing in this mode is that it makes me actually insane, which I don't like. I just roll word counts and percentages around in my head 24 hours a day and I'm not really able to relax and do things that are not grinding away at my writing. I can do it for short periods of time, but I think I have too much of this story left to tough it through, plus, like, what's the point? This is the thing I allegedly do for fun, and even though I really really really want to be finished, I feel like I should actually try to enjoy the process a little, at least.
So anyway! My first goal for this week is to be less insane about my fanfic. My second goal is to finish Chapter 9a (I think I have about 3-4k to go). My third goal is to edit Chapters 7 and 8 and send them to the beta.
After that, I'll just have 9b (of which I've already written about 4k) and the epilogue to do. After that, of course, there's still more editing, a beta pass for chapters 8->the end, and then I may try to read the whole thing through again from the beginning. So, 3 weeks, maybe, give or take a little?
In the interest of trying to have a little fun, I think I'm gonna try to post some previews for the next couple weeks? In the past, people have enjoyed previews. Today's is a little long, but it's the opening to the whole thing. It's below a cut for those who'd rather wait until the whole thing comes out.
“I don’t know if they’re trying to capitalize on Boy’s Day, or what,” Rukia said, idly inching her hand toward the plate of hot, steaming gyoza sitting on the countertop next to Renji’s stove, “but they’re having some sort of Seafood Festival out in East Sixth.”
A dish towel appeared out of nowhere, the tip whipping painfully against Rukia’s hand.
“Ow!” Rukia howled.
“They’re hot! It’ll hurt worse if you jam one of those in your mouth whole like I know you were gonna,” Renji replied, stuffing the dish towel back into his obi, and juggling the pan of gyoza he was currently frying. “What about a Seafood Festival? Why the Hell is the East Sixth having a Seafood Festival?”
“It’s being put on by the Train Museum, I hear,” Rukia continued grumpily, rubbing at her hand. “I guess they’re hauling a bunch of spring fish up from the Shiranui Sea at the other end of the line. It only takes a few hours to get out to Six. There’s probably carts making the run that we could take, but I would honestly just flash-step, at least on the way out. I want to eat my own body weight in katsuo. Possibly your body weight in katsuo.”
“Mmm,” Renji replied noncommittally, dumping the rest of his gyoza onto the plate and turning off the stovetop.
“I was thinking of asking Hisagi if he wanted us to take some pictures and do a little write-up for the Bulletin,” Rukia went on. “Get us a little walking-around money.” Not that Rukia lacked for pocket money, but it was a little more expensive than their usual weekend activities, and Renji got a little cagey when she tried to treat him to things.
“That’s a bad idea.”
“Why? We had fun the last time we played reporter!”
“Grab the bowl of sauce, would you?” Renji gestured with his chin as he picked up the plate of dumplings and the teapot to carry them to the table. “Don’t you remember when they built that damn train line? Took ‘em over over thirty years, and there were three to four articles every single Bulletin about the delays, the graft, the politics, the environmental impact, whatever. People got so mad about the idea of a train inside the Seireitei that it doesn’t even go anywhere useful. I didn’t even know they used it for anything aside from twee holidays for bored nobles.”
“I heard a story from my friend, Lady Akizuki, that the old head of the Seshimo clan actually lives on the train! He hasn’t set foot outside it in fifteen years!”
Renji cocked an eyebrow at her. He looked like he desperately wanted to hear about the Train Noble, but also did not want to be a guy who cared about Train Nobles. “Anyway, don’t mention the train to Hisagi unless you got six or seven hours to kill. Preferably when I’m not there.”
Rukia picked up the big, fragrant bowl of ginger dipping sauce with both hands. “It was just an idea. So what do you think? Do you want to go?
“When is it again?” Renji asked, frowning.
“It’s running for all of May, but the weather has been so nice lately, I thought maybe we could go next weekend,” Rukia suggested.
Renji was quiet for a moment, but Rukia figured that maybe he was just focused on serving her dumplings, which was, in her opinion, very important.
“Ru,” he finally said slowly, as he poured her a cup of tea. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“Is it that you want to go to the Seafood Festival with me?”
Renji took a big breath through his nose and let it out again. “If things work out, I’d love to go later in the month. Next weekend’s not gonna work, though.”
“Oh.” Rukia frowned. “That’s fine. That’s no big deal.” She looked down lovingly at her gyoza and then up at Renji hopefully. “Itadakimasu?” she asked hopefully.
Renji blinked. “Huh? Oh, yeah, please help yourself. That… that wasn’t the thing I had to say.”
“Well, spit it out, already,” Rukia groused, her mouth already crammed with gyoza. “Why are you being weird?”
Renji still hadn’t touched his own food. He had circled his right wrist with the thumb and middle finger of his left hand and was rotating it back and forth. He used to make that gesture a lot when he was young, and Rukia realized that she hadn’t seen him do it in years.
“I’m having some surgery,” Renji finally said.
Rukia froze. After a long moment, she slowly finished chewing her dumpling and swallowed it. “Are you okay? What’s going on?”
“I’m getting my arm fixed.”
Rukia watched him rub his wrist for another few seconds. “Did it not heal correctly after the, um, accident?” “The accident” was when Byakuya had stabbed him through the forearm during a demonstration fight the week prior. Everyone was being very polite about it.
“Wellll…” Renji drew out. “I mean, no, that healed up fine. Very clean cut, Senbonzakura, as always. But, uh, while I was at the Fourth, the topic of my burnt-out kidou ducts came up. Captain Unohana thinks she can fix ‘em. And I’ve decided to, um, let her try.” “Oh,” said Rukia. Her chest was filling up with a lot of strange feelings. “Oh.”

Renruki - "Given"
Summary: Renji was beginning to worry. Lately, he’d noticed something strange about Rukia. Specifically, her reiatsu. Though he couldn't quite put his finger on it, it felt somehow... off.
AO3
Renji was beginning to worry.
Lately, he’d noticed something strange about Rukia. Specifically, her reiatsu. Though he couldn't quite put his finger on it, it felt somehow... off.
That cool flow of spiritual pressure was one he'd become finely attuned to over the years, even after their decades of separation.
In their childhood, he’d witnessed her reiatsu's initial sparks and the potential they held. He'd felt them grow over their time at the Academy, pulsing and flickering with incredible power as she tapped into and honed that potential.
He knew, all too well, the terrifying dread that came with feeling it deplete to the point that he almost couldn’t sense it. He’d felt himself be completely enveloped by it, shivered as it permeated his very core and melded with his own. As their physical shells became entangled, allowing their very beings to join on another plane they hadn’t even known possible.
As far as Renji knew, he was familiar with every possible state and variation of Rukia’s reiatsu, perhaps even more so than his own.
Yet, nothing he’d ever sensed before could compare to the energy that radiated from her now.
At first, it had been something he’d had to strain to even make out. Faint and sporadic, like a barely beating heart. Over time though, Renji noticed that this reiatsu didn’t actually appear too different from how Rukia's did normally. A prospect that unnerved him.
It was difficult to place. The traces that stood out didn't appear alien or dangerous. If anything, it was as though they'd melded with the larger pool of her own reiatsu, becoming a part of her.
Renji wondered if it was simply the result of her training, growing and uncovering new strength within herself. But, he wasn't sure.
He’d been there for her greatest shift in strength when she’d finally mastered her Bankai training in the Zero Division, and nothing at that time had seemed out of the ordinary.
Even now as she continued to refine her abilities, striving to fill the role of her former captain, she never experienced a growth in power as drastic as the one she did during the Quincy War.
Renji hadn't noticed any unusual shifts in her reiatsu back then, so he wasn't sure why that would be any different now.
It wasn’t until he started noticing shifts in Rukia's physical well-being, that he truly began to grow concerned.
She was growing tired much earlier in the day, the fatigue making her movements sluggish and dulling her reflexes. It was lucky that her position saw her taking on fewer missions, as Renji worried that she might end up getting hurt.
She would return from work with deep knots in her shoulders and back from the hours spent sitting at a desk. While Renji was pleased that he could help to bring his wife comfort, his hands kneading the tension from her muscles, he knew the relief would only be temporary.
Her appetite had gone. Whenever they ate together, Rukia would spend much of her time glancing off into space, missing parts of the conversation and pushing most of the food around with her chopsticks.
Renji worried that it could also be due to stress. That having to lead her division alone, while also training a seated officer to eventually step in as her Lieutenant, was taking its toll. Perhaps the solution was to arrange for them to take some time off and relieve the tension that was overtaking her.
He couldn't remember the last time they’d had a chance to take a break. Ever since Aizen's betrayal of the Soul Society, they'd rarely had the chance to stop and process everything that had happened.
Perhaps they could visit some hot springs or meet with Ichigo in the human world.
Maybe while they were there, they could stop by Urahara-san's. The shopkeep might have an answer as to what was wrong with her.
Sadly, though, he knew Rukia would refuse. It was the wrong time. If she were to leave, there would be no one to run the thirteenth. The last thing their division needed was for its Acting Captain to step away, even temporarily.
So, as a compromise, Renji settled for trying, discreetly, to arrange an appointment with Captain Kotetsu, not wanting word of Rukia’s condition to reach her brother.
Knowing the lengths his captain would go to for his sister's sake, Renji could imagine the man overreacting to the news and sending over a throng of Kuchiki staff to care for her. Rukia wouldn’t be comfortable with so many people tending to her. It would be overwhelming and likely only make matters worse.
But, at the very least, if he could get the Fourth to see her, they might be able to determine what was wrong.
As the source grew stronger, and easier for him to focus on, he noticed that the usual, icy white was actually tinged slightly, by warm, unmistakable flecks of red; a spiritual pressure that Renji had only ever sensed in one place before.
Traces of his own spiritual pressure.
That was something Renji couldn't understand.
He knew it wasn’t unheard of for a reiatsu’s colour to change, but that was usually something that only happened when they were wielding different abilities in battle. He had never heard of reiatsu taking on the qualities of someone elses. These streaks of red were ever-present, even when Rukia was perfectly still, completely passive.
The closest thing Renji had ever felt something to it, was a sensation that had only flickered through him briefly, on a few occasions. A feeling as though their reiatsu was melding, becoming one.
It was rare. Something usually spurred on when they were entangled in throngs of passion. Whenever they sparred, their many past attempts to express the feelings they carried in their hearts. But, perhaps most notably, was their first time together in the Zero Division, in the midst of the Quincy war. Having both almost died, faced with the harsh reality that the chance may never come again for them.
In this case though, the feeling remained, as if permanently etched upon Rukia’s soul. As though their feelings had given life to it. As though he had transferred a part of himself into her.
The feeling it woke in him, instinctively, was one of comfort, home. A sentiment he usually related to Rukia.
Somehow, the presence of his own spiritual presence calmed him, somewhat, waking an instinct to guard and nourish this potential that rested within her.
He decided to press the issue over dinner, catching her turning lumps of rice over and over with her chopsticks.
“Rukia, is everything alright?”
To his surprise, the innocuous question caused Rukia to lose grip on one of her chopsticks, the wooden utensil clattering against the floor.
“O- of course. Why wouldn’t it be?”
“You just… haven’t seemed yourself lately.”
"O-oh, really? Is that so?"
"I know I'm probably worrying over nothing, but... You've been working so hard."
“Well, I- I actually had a check-up this week."
Rukia’s eyes were downcast as she answered, an odd strain entering her voice. Renji felt his heart jolt, anticipating the worst.
"You did?” His voice rose, urgent. “Is everything alright?"
"Yes, we're-," she flinched. " I'm fine, Renji."
"Oh, that's good," Renji exhaled.
He knew it seemed ridiculous, worrying about her. Rukia was one of the strongest people he knew, more than capable of handling herself. But illness was something that went beyond physical and spiritual power. It couldn’t be so easily combatted.
He couldn't help his concern.
"I'm sorry, Rukia,” he sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I guess I overreacted. It's just... recently, I've noticed something off about your reiatsu. It's felt... almost different. On top of the fact that you've seemed tired a lot and have been having trouble eating, I was worried something might be wrong."
Rukia set her bowl down, sliding along the tatami mat to nestle beside him. He felt himself enveloped by the same spiritual pressure that had been consuming his thoughts. Rukia’s hand rubbed against his arm soothingly.
"Renji, it's okay.”
Renji frowned, pulling away from her slightly to glance into her eyes.
“What do you mean?”
Rukia broke their gaze, her vision training onto the floor as she exhaled, readying something.
"I suppose it's my fault for keeping this from you for this long… You're right, Renji. You did notice something different. But I promise you, it's nothing to worry about."
The soft brush of Rukia's words managed to ease Renji's fears, somewhat. He was reassured to know that his instincts had been right. That it hadn't just been in his head.
At the same time, Rukia seemed to know what was happening and, judging by her demeanour, there was no reason to worry.
Still, he couldn't help but be curious. What was going on?
As if reading his thoughts, Rukia clasped one of Renji's hands, moving to rest it against her stomach. His hand lingered there, feeling the rise and fall of her chest with each breath she took. The pace was calming, a strong, steady pattern for him to focus on, while speaking to Rukia’s health.
Strangely, he could also sense that unusual pressure flaring especially vibrant underneath his touch.
His gaze lifted, unsure of what Rukia was trying to tell him. His breath hitched as he saw her, tears brimming in the corner of her eyes and a fond, gentle smile directed solely toward him.
"Renji, I'm pregnant."
Renji blinked, gaze carrying blankly ahead as Rukia’s words flowed through his mind.
Suddenly, everything seemed to fall into place. The reiatsu forming inside Rukia that carried traces so eerily similar both to his and her own, the fatigue that had been weighing upon her over the past several weeks.
The pressure stirring within Rukia, melding with her, was in fact their child.
A cool hand covered the one resting against her chest, dragging Renji abruptly from his reverie. As Rukia’s gaze met him, expectant, he realised how long he had been lost in thought. The breath caught in his throat underneath her soft, nervous smile; those shimmering violet irises, shining somehow more beautiful than ever. He could only watch in silent awe, eyes brimming with uncertainty and disbelief; feelings that would not persist much longer.
Quelling his unease, Rukia nodded through a peal of joyous of laughter.
Suddenly, Renji’s own vision blurred, a sting forming in the corner of his eye. With a burst of desperation, he dragged her abruptly into his arms, taking her in with a shaky breath. The pressure flared as if in response to his presence. In that moment, Renji almost felt as though he could reach it. It wouldn’t be long, though, before it did take the form of something solid.
A perfect beautiful child, bearing the best of both their features.
A glimpse of the future they had always longed for.

Six Hearts vs. Fullbringers: Orihime vs. Riruka
Tumblr media
Yeah, this one is a little obvious.
Before everything sort of went to hell, Orihime had a pretty deep and meaningful conversation with Riruka, where Orihime’s good faith and decency managed to connect with Riruka, even though Riruka was disinclined to like her for reasons both personal and professional (or whatever you call it when you’re running a con on somebody). And after all the fights happen, they have another very sweet conversation, where Riruka shows how much she’s grown, and develops the resolve to be a better person going forwards.
And in between...she talks through her problems with Rukia? No offense to Rukia, but talking out feelings isn’t really in her bag-- she had a whole star-crossed romance that existed entirely because she and Renji wouldn’t talk to each other about their feelings, and her biggest emotional connection with Ichigo was an agreement not to talk to him about his past until he was ready. It’s no surprise, then, that after Riruka explains where she and all the other Fullbringers are coming from, Rukia just says “cool motive, still entrapment, assault, and battery” and threatens to freeze her to death.
I feel like Orihime would maybe be a little better at being a sounding board for the feelings Riruka’s trying to express in her fight. Like, can you imagine Orihime not being sympathetic to any of these people? She’d probably shed a tear for the eye Giriko lost after he tried to roll back murdering his wife. And she wouldn’t need to be stuck inside a stuffed animal to do any of it, either.
Not that Riruka would be sticking Orihime in any stuffed animal anyhow, because Orihime’s defensive techniques, strong even at the worst times, pretty much wall off Riruka’s powers. But that would actually make for a really neat fight, one where Orihime can win on her terms. After all, she’s not hardly ever one to go on the offense, but to connect with another person to the point they understand your point of view and stop fighting? That’s the kind of victory I think Orihime would want more than anything.
So the fight would have a heavy focus on the dialogue and the flashbacks, with Orihime santen kesshuning any attempts to stick her in a stuffed animal. If you really loved the stuffed animal comedy, it would be pretty funny to put Tsubaki in one, but I’m not sure that’s necessary. All you really need is Orihime slowly talking Riruka through her own feelings, to the realization that hurting other people is only going to make the pain inside her worse, and not heal it.
